This "feature" is unused, undocumented, and untested and so doesn't really belong. A patch is under development to properly implement support for detecting when a search gets diverted down a different chain, which the common purpose of nulls markers. This patch actually fixes a bug too. The table resizing allows a table to grow to 2^31 buckets, but the hash is truncated to 27 bits - any growth beyond 2^27 is wasteful an ineffective. This patch results in NULLS_MARKER(0) being used for all chains, and leaves the use of rht_is_a_null() to test for it. There are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can
be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read
Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first.
In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
See Documentation/00-INDEX for a list of what is contained in each file.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
