ptep_set_wrprotect() is only called on CoW mappings which are private (!VM_SHARED) with the pte either read-only (!PTE_WRITE && PTE_RDONLY) or writable and software-dirty (PTE_WRITE && !PTE_RDONLY && PTE_DIRTY). There is no race with the hardware update of the dirty state: clearing of PTE_RDONLY when PTE_WRITE (a.k.a. PTE_DBM) is set. This patch removes the code setting the software PTE_DIRTY bit in ptep_set_wrprotect() as superfluous. A VM_WARN_ONCE is introduced in case the above logic is wrong or the core mm code changes its use of ptep_set_wrprotect(). Linux kernel ============ This file was moved to Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst Please notice that there are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or ``make pdfdocs``. There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory, several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation. See Documentation/00-INDEX for a list of what is contained in each file. Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
