Sorry ? It was not a fix, but at most a cleanup ;)
Anyway I forgot the gretap case...
[PATCH 2/4 v2] ip_gre: percpu stats accounting
Maintain per_cpu tx_bytes, tx_packets, rx_bytes, rx_packets.
Other seldom used fields are kept in netdev->stats structure, possibly
unsafe.
This is a preliminary work to support lockless transmit path, and
correct RX stats, that are already unsafe.

Under load, netif_rx() can drop incoming packets but administrators dont
have a chance to spot which device needs some tuning (RPS activation for
example)
This patch adds rx_dropped accounting in vlans and tunnels.

As RTNL is held while doing tunnels inserts and deletes, we can remove
ipgre_lock spinlock. My initial RCU conversion was conservative and
converted the rwlock to spinlock, with no RTNL requirement.
Use appropriate rcu annotations and modern lockdep checks as well.

PPP: introduce "pptp" module which implements point-to-point tunneling protocol using pppox framework
NET: introduce the "gre" module for demultiplexing GRE packets on version criteria
(required to pptp and ip_gre may coexists)
NET: ip_gre: update to use the "gre" module
This patch introduces then pptp support to the linux kernel which
dramatically speeds up pptp vpn connections and decreases cpu usage in
comparison of existing user-space implementation
(poptop/pptpclient). There is accel-pptp project
(https://sourceforge.net/projects/accel-pptp/) to utilize this module,
it contains plugin for pppd to use pptp in client-mode and modified
pptpd (poptop) to build high-performance pptp NAS.
There was many changes from initial submitted patch, most important are:
1. using rcu instead of read-write locks
2. using static bitmap instead of dynamically allocated
3. using vmalloc for memory allocation instead of BITS_PER_LONG + __get_free_pages
4. fixed many coding style issues

This patch makes IPV6 over IPv4 GRE tunnel propagate the transport
class field from the underlying IPV6 header to the IPV4 Type Of Service
field. Without the patch, all IPV6 packets in tunnel look the same to QoS.
This assumes that IPV6 transport class is exactly the same
as IPv4 TOS. Not sure if that is always the case? Maybe need
to mask off some bits.
The mask and shift to get tclass is copied from ipv6/datagram.c

This patch removes from net/ (but not any netfilter files)
all the unnecessary return; statements that precede the
last closing brace of void functions.
It does not remove the returns that are immediately
preceded by a label as gcc doesn't like that.
Done via:
$ grep -rP --include=*.[ch] -l "return;\n}" net/ | \

percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being
included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which
in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files
universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies.
percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for
this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those
headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion
needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is
used as the basis of conversion.
http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py
The script does the followings.
* Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that
only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used,
gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h.
* When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include
blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms
to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains
core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered -
alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there
doesn't seem to be any matching order.
* If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly
because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out
an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the
file.
The conversion was done in the following steps.
1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly
over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h
and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400
files.
2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion,
some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or
embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added
inclusions to around 150 files.
3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits
from #2 to make sure no file was left behind.
4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed.
e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab
APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually.
5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically
editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h
files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h
inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually
wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each
slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as
necessary.
6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h.
7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures
were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my
distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few
more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things
build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq).
* x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config.
* powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig
* sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig
* ia64 SMP allmodconfig
* s390 SMP allmodconfig
* alpha SMP allmodconfig
* um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig
8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as
a separate patch and serve as bisection point.
Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step
6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch.
If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch
headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of
the specific arch.

ipgre_header() can be called with zero daddr when the gre device is
configured as multipoint tunnel and still has the NOARP flag set (which is
typically cleared by the userspace arp daemon). If the NOARP packets are
not dropped, ipgre_tunnel_xmit() will take rt->rt_gateway (= NBMA IP) and
use that for route look up (and may lead to bogus xfrm acquires).
The multicast address check is removed as sending to multicast group should
be ok. In fact, if gre device has a multicast address as destination
ipgre_header is always called with multicast address.

There is no good reason to not support userspace specifying the
network namespace during device creation, and it makes it easier
to create a network device and pass it to a child network namespace
with a well known name.
We have to be careful to ensure that the target network namespace
for the new device exists through the life of the call. To keep
that logic clear I have factored out the network namespace grabbing
logic into rtnl_link_get_net.
In addtion we need to continue to pass the source network namespace
to the rtnl_link_ops.newlink method so that we can find the base
device source network namespace.

This is because gretap is still using the tunnel netdev ops rather

This patch makes the RX/TX byte counters for IPIP, GRE and SIT more
consistent. Previously we included the external IP headers on the

The new scheme is to count payload only in both directions. For
IPIP and SIT this simply means the exclusion of the external IP
header. For GRE this means that we exclude the GRE header as

This patch moves the dev->mtu setting out of ipgre_tunnel_bind_dev.
This is in prepartion of using rtnl_link where we'll need to make
the MTU setting conditional on whether the user has supplied an
MTU. This also requires the move of the ipgre_tunnel_bind_dev
call out of the dev->init function so that we can access the user
parameters later.
This patch also adds a check to prevent setting the MTU below

Now that we have dev->needed_headroom, we can use it instead of
having a bogus dev->hard_header_len. This also allows us to
include dev->hard_header_len in the MTU computation so that when
we do have a meaningful hard_harder_len in future it is included
automatically in figuring out the MTU.
Incidentally, this fixes a bug where we ignored the needed_headroom
