space outside of the device model. We now finally make GPIO chips
devices. The gpio_chip will create a gpio_device which contains
a struct device, and this gpio_device struct is kept private.
Anything that needs to be kept private from the rest of the kernel
will gradually be moved over to the gpio_device.
- As a result of making the gpio_device a real device, we have added
resource management, so devm_gpiochip_add_data() will cut down on
overhead and reduce code lines. A huge slew of patches convert
almost all drivers in the subsystem to use this.
- Building on making the GPIO a real device, we add the first step
of a new userspace ABI: the GPIO character device. We take small
steps here, so we first add a pure *information* ABI and the tool
"lsgpio" that will list all GPIO devices on the system and all
lines on these devices. We can now discover GPIOs properly from
userspace. We still have not come up with a way to actually *use*
GPIOs from userspace.
- To encourage people to use the character device for the future,
we have it always-enabled when using GPIO. The old sysfs ABI is
still opt-in (and can be used in parallel), but is marked as
deprecated. We will keep it around for the foreseeable future,
but it will not be extended to cover ever more use cases.
Cleanup:
- Bjorn Helgaas removed a whole slew of per-architecture <asm/gpio.h>

This patch updates csum_ipv6_magic so that it correctly recognizes that
protocol is a unsigned 8 bit value.
This will allow us to better understand what limitations may or may not be
present in how we handle the data. For example there are a number of
places that call htonl on the protocol value. This is likely not necessary
and can be replaced with a multiplication by ntohl(1) which will be
converted to a shift by the compiler.

For a long time all architectures implement the pci_dma_* functions using
the generic DMA API, and they all use the same header to do so.
Move this header, pci-dma-compat.h, to include/linux and include it from
the generic pci.h instead of having each arch duplicate this include.

Remove the obsolete Motorola/Freescale 68360 SoC support. It has been
bit rotting for many years with little active use in mainlne. There has
been no serial driver support for many years, so it is largely not
useful in its current state.

The FEC (Fast Ethernet Crontroller) module on many ColdFire parts can
be compiled into the kernel, or as a module. Therefore the platform device
support for it is required whenever the driver is enabled - not just when
built into the kernel. Use IS_ENABLED(CONFIG_FEC) instead of a conditional
check on only the driver being built into the kernel.

Create conventional stack parameters for the calls to do_sigreturn and
do_rt_sigreturn. The current C code for do_sigreturn and do_rt_sigreturn
dig into the stack to create local pointers to the saved switch stack
and the pt_regs structs.
The motivation for this change is a problem with non-MMU targets that
have broken signal return paths on newer versions of gcc. It appears as
though gcc has determined that the pointers into the saved stack structs,
and the saved structs themselves, are function parameters and updates to
them will be lost on function return, so they are optimized away. This
results in large parts of restore_sigcontext() and mangle_kernel_stack()
functions being removed. Of course this results in non-functional code
causing kernel oops. This problem has been observed with gcc version
5.2 and 5.3, and probably exists in earlier versions as well.
Using conventional stack parameter pointers passed to these functions has
the advantage of the code here not needing to know the exact details of
how the underlying entry handler layed these structs out on the stack.
So the rather ugly pointer setup casting and arg referencing can be
removed.
The resulting code after this change is a few bytes larger (due to the
overhead of creating the stack args and their tear down). Not being hot
paths I don't think this is too much of a problem here.
An alternative solution is to put a barrier() in the do_sigreturn() code,
but this doesn't feel quite as clean as this solution.
This change has been compile tested on all defconfigs, and run tested on
Atari (through aranym), ColdFire with MMU (M5407EVB) and ColdFire with
no-MMU (QEMU and M5208EVB).

with that. I really should've asked for moratorium on lookup-related

*am* asking for that for the coming cycle, though - I'm going to try
and get conversion of i_mutex to rwsem with ->lookup() done under lock
taken shared.
There will be a patch closer to the end of the window, along the lines
of the one Linus had posted last May - mechanical conversion of
->i_mutex accesses to inode_lock()/inode_unlock()/inode_trylock()/

The defconfig build of m68k was failing with the error:
implicit declaration of function '__pfn_to_phys'
Other architectures have added <asm/memory.h>, but if we do so here then
we will also get redeclaration of some other functions. So it is better
to copy these macros into page.h.

As we want gpio_chip .get() calls to be able to return negative
error codes and propagate to drivers, we need to go over all
drivers and make sure their return values are clamped to [0,1].
We do this by using the ret = !!(val) design pattern.

If max_pfn is not initialized, the block layer may use wrong DMA masks.
Replace open-coded shifts by PFN_DOWN(), and drop the "0 on coldfire"
comment, as it is not even true on all Coldfires, let alone all
m68knommu platforms.

If max_pfn is not initialized, the various /proc/kpage* files are empty,
and selftests/vm/mlock2-tests will fail. max_pfn is also used by the
block layer to calculate DMA masks.
Switch from init_bootmem_node() to init_bootmem(), as there's only one
memory node on Sun-3. This will initialize min_low_pfn and max_low_pfn,
which was also not done before.

Make sure the compiler does not modify arguments of syscall functions.
This can happen if the compiler generates a tailcall to another
function. For example, without asmlinkage_protect sys_openat is compiled
into this function:

Note how the fourth argument is modified in place, modifying the register
%d4 that gets restored from this stack slot when the function returns to
user-space. The caller may expect the register to be unmodified across
system calls.

This patch makes sure that atomic_{read,set}() are at least
{READ,WRITE}_ONCE().
We already had the 'requirement' that atomic_read() should use
ACCESS_ONCE(), and most archs had this, but a few were lacking.
All are now converted to use READ_ONCE().
And, by a symmetry and general paranoia argument, upgrade atomic_set()
to use WRITE_ONCE().

Most interrupt flow handlers do not use the irq argument. Those few
which use it can retrieve the irq number from the irq descriptor.
Remove the argument.
Search and replace was done with coccinelle and some extra helper

There are two kexec load syscalls, kexec_load another and kexec_file_load.
kexec_file_load has been splited as kernel/kexec_file.c. In this patch I
split kexec_load syscall code to kernel/kexec.c.
And add a new kconfig option KEXEC_CORE, so we can disable kexec_load and
use kexec_file_load only, or vice verse.
The original requirement is from Ted Ts'o, he want kexec kernel signature
being checked with CONFIG_KEXEC_VERIFY_SIG enabled. But kexec-tools use
kexec_load syscall can bypass the checking.
Vivek Goyal proposed to create a common kconfig option so user can compile
in only one syscall for loading kexec kernel. KEXEC/KEXEC_FILE selects
KEXEC_CORE so that old config files still work.
Because there's general code need CONFIG_KEXEC_CORE, so I updated all the
architecture Kconfig with a new option KEXEC_CORE, and let KEXEC selects
KEXEC_CORE in arch Kconfig. Also updated general kernel code with to
kexec_load syscall.
