During suspend/resume usecases and tests, it is common to see issues
such as lockups either in suspend path or resume path because of the
bugs in the corresponding device driver pm handling code. In such cases,
it is important that watchdog is active to make sure that we either
receive a watchdog pretimeout notification or a bite causing reset
instead of a hang causing us to hard reset the machine.
There are good reasons as to why we need this because:
* We can have a watchdog pretimeout governor set to panic in which
case we can have a backtrace which would help identify the issue
with the particular driver and cause a normal reboot.
* Even in case where there is no pretimeout support, a watchdog
bite is still useful because some firmware has debug support to dump
CPU core context on watchdog bite for post-mortem analysis.
* One more usecase which comes to mind is of warm reboot. In case we
hard reset the target, a cold reboot could be induced resulting in
lose of ddr contents thereby losing all the debug info.
Currently, the watchdog pm callback just invokes the usual suspend
and resume callback which do not have any special ordering in the
sense that a watchdog can be suspended before the buggy device driver
suspend callback and watchdog resume can happen after the buggy device
driver resume callback. This would mean that the watchdog will not be
active when the buggy driver cause the lockups thereby hanging the
system. So to make sure this doesn't happen, move the watchdog pm to
use late/early system pm callbacks which will ensure that the watchdog
is suspended late and resumed early so that it can catch such issues.

frequency of 1GHz, so Arm Base System Architecture 1.0[1] has
introduced watchdog revision 1 that increases the length the
watchdog offset register to 48 bit, while other operation of
the watchdog remains the same.
The driver can determine which version of the watchdog is
implemented through the watchdog interface identification

offset register will be 48 bit, otherwise it will be 32 bit.

The pretimeout register has a default reset value. Hence
when a smaller WDT timeout is set which would be lesser than the
default pretimeout, the system behaves abnormally, starts
triggering the pretimeout interrupt even when the WDT is
not enabled, most of the times leading to system crash.
Hence an update in the pre-timeout is also required for the
default timeout that is being configured.

The Nuvoton WPCM450 BMC is an older chip based on the ARM926 CPU core
that remains in use on Supermicro X9 server boards among others. Support
gets added for a particular server board using this SoC along with the
basic platform bringup.
As the platform is a predecessor to the npcm7xx platform we already
support, it is added to the same directory, despite using a different
name. It also seems to be related to the older w90x900/nuc9xx platform
that was removed last year.

Few drivers implement remove call-back only for ensuring a delayed
work gets cancelled prior driver removal. Clean-up these by switching
to use devm_delayed_work_autocancel() instead.
This change is compile-tested only. All testing is appreciated.

Add Watchdog support for ROHM BD9576MUF and BD9573MUF PMICs which are
mainly used to power the R-Car series processors. The watchdog is
pinged using a GPIO and enabled using another GPIO. Additionally
watchdog time-out can be configured to HW prior starting the watchdog.
Watchdog timeout can be configured to detect only delayed ping or in
a window mode where also too fast pings are detected.

Here is the large set of char/misc/whatever driver subsystem updates for
5.12-rc1. Over time it seems like this tree is collecting more and more
tiny driver subsystems in one place, making it easier for those
maintainers, which is why this is getting larger.
Included in here are:
- coresight driver updates
- habannalabs driver updates
- virtual acrn driver addition (proper acks from the x86
maintainers)
- broadcom misc driver addition
- speakup driver updates
- soundwire driver updates
- fpga driver updates
- amba driver updates
- mei driver updates
- vfio driver updates
- greybus driver updates
- nvmeem driver updates
- phy driver updates
- mhi driver updates
- interconnect driver udpates
- fsl-mc bus driver updates
- random driver fix
- some small misc driver updates (rtsx, pvpanic, etc.)
All of these have been in linux-next for a while, with the only reported
issue being a merge conflict in include/linux/mod_devicetable.h that you
will hit in your tree due to the dfl_device_id addition from the fpga
subsystem in here. The resolution should be simple.

The driver core ignores the return value of mei_cl_device_remove() so
passing an error value doesn't solve any problem. As most mei drivers'
remove callbacks return 0 unconditionally and returning a different value
doesn't have any effect, change this prototype to return void and return 0
unconditionally in mei_cl_device_remove(). The only driver that could
return an error value is modified to emit an explicit warning in the error
case.

As per register documentation, QCOM_WDT_ENABLE_IRQ which is BIT(1)
of watchdog control register is wakeup interrupt enable bit and
not related to bark interrupt at all, BIT(0) is used for that.
So remove incorrect usage of this bit when supporting bark irq for
pre-timeout notification. Currently with this bit set and bark
interrupt specified, pre-timeout notification and/or watchdog
reset/bite does not occur.

The MEI bus has a special behavior on suspend it destroys
all the attached devices, this is due to the fact that also
firmware context is not persistent across power flows.
If watchdog on MEI bus is ticking before suspending the firmware
times out and reports that the OS is missing watchdog tick.
Send the stop command to the firmware on watchdog unregistered
to eliminate the false event on suspend.
This does not make the things worse from the user-space perspective
as a user-space should re-open watchdog device after
suspending before this patch.

Before user space daemon start to access the watchdog device,
there is a time interval that watchdog is disabled in the
original flow. If the system freezing at this interval, it
cannot be rebooted by watchdog hardware automatically.
In order to solve this problem, the watchdog hardware should be
kept working, and start hrtimer in framework to ping it by
setting max_hw_heartbeat_ms and HW_RUNNING used in
watchdog_need_worker to determine whether the worker should be
started or not. Besides the redundant setting of max_timeout is

All amba drivers return 0 in their remove callback. Together with the
driver core ignoring the return value anyhow, it doesn't make sense to
return a value here.
Change the remove prototype to return void, which makes it explicit that
returning an error value doesn't work as expected. This simplifies changing
the core remove callback to return void, too.

A reboot notifier, which stops the WDT by calling the stop hook without

Howerer we allow the WDT driver to omit the stop hook since commit
"d0684c8a93549" ("watchdog: Make stop function optional") and provide
a module parameter for user that controls the WDOG_STOP_ON_REBOOT flag
in commit 9232c80659 ("watchdog: Add stop_on_reboot parameter to

NMIs received during the crash path are problematic as hpwdt_pretimeout
handling of the NMI would cause a reentry into kdump.
The situation is complicated in that I/O errors can be signaled as NMI
circumventing hpwdt_pretimeout's attempt to not claim NMI not associated
with either the WDT or the iLO NMI switch. These NMI can additionally
cause a secondary NMI which cause the system to hang.
By disabling pretimeout and hpwdtimeout in crash path we both reduce
the risk of receiving an NMI and simuletaneously leave the WDT running
(if it was already in use) to allow the WDT to break the system out of
hangs by the WDT reset.

After changing to check busy bit for the previous loading operation instead
of the current one, for most of cases, the busy bit is not set for the
first time of read, so there's no need to check so frequently, so this
patch use usleep_range() to replace cpu_relax() to avoid busy loop.
Also this patch change the max times to 11 which would be enough, since
according to the specification, the busy bit would be set after a new
loading operation and last 2 or 3 RTC clock cycles (about 60us~92us).

sprd_wdt_start() would return fail if the loading operation is not completed
in a certain time, disabling watchdog for that case would probably cause
the kernel crash when kick watchdog later, that's too bad, so remove the
watchdog disable operation for the fail case to make sure other parts in
the kernel can run normally.

In rdc321x_wdt_probe(), rdc321x_wdt_device.queue is initialized
after misc_register(), hence if ioctl is called before its
initialization which can call rdc321x_wdt_start() function,
it will see an uninitialized value of rdc321x_wdt_device.queue,
hence initialize it before misc_register().
Also, rdc321x_wdt_device.default_ticks is accessed in reset()
function called from write callback, thus initialize it before
misc_register().

Bergmann work which Krzysztof Kozlowski took over, rebased and polished.
The goal is to cleanup, merge and finally make the Samsung S3C24xx and

yet here - just cleaning up and merging into one arch/arm/mach-s3c
directory. However this is step forward for multiplatform or at least
to keep this code still maintainable.
This pulls also branch with changes for Samsung SoC sound drivers from

A separate Kconfig option HAVE_S3C2410_WATCHDOG for Samsung SoCs is not
really needed and the s3c24xx watchdog driver can depend on Samsung ARM
architectures instead.
The "HAVE_xxx_WATCHDOG" pattern of dependency is not popular and Samsung
platforms are here exceptions. All others just depend on
CONFIG_ARCH_xxx.
This makes the code slightly smaller without any change in
functionality.

If the RTI watchdog is running already during probe, the driver must
configure itself to match the HW. Window size and timeout is probed from
hardware, and the last keepalive ping is adjusted to match it also.

Certain watchdogs require the watchdog only to be pinged within a
specific time window, pinging too early or too late cause the watchdog
to fire. In cases where this sort of watchdog has been started before
kernel comes up, we must adjust the watchdog keepalive window to match
the actually running timer, so add a new driver API for this purpose.

Current watchdog startup functionality does not respect the minimum hw
heartbeat setup and the last watchdog ping timeframe when watchdog is
already running and userspace process attaches to it. Fix this by using
the __watchdog_ping from the startup also. For this code path, we can
also let the __watchdog_ping handle the bookkeeping for the worker and
last keepalive times.

When watchdog device is being registered, it calls misc_register that
makes watchdog available for systemd to open. This is a data race
scenario, because when device is open it may still have device struct
not initialized - this in turn causes a crash. This patch moves
device initialization before misc_register call and it solves the
problem printed below.

The flag indicating a watchdog timeout having occurred normally persists
till Power-On Reset of the Fintek Super I/O chip. The user can clear it
by writing a `1' to the bit.
The driver doesn't offer a restart method, so regular system reboot
might not reset the Super I/O and if the watchdog isn't enabled, we
won't touch the register containing the bit on the next boot.
In this case all subsequent regular reboots will be wrongly flagged
by the driver as being caused by the watchdog.
Fix this by having the flag cleared after read. This is also done by
other drivers like those for the i6300esb and mpc8xxx_wdt.

The flags that should be or-ed into the watchdog_info.options by drivers
all start with WDIOF_, e.g. WDIOF_SETTIMEOUT, which indicates that the
driver's watchdog_ops has a usable set_timeout.
WDIOC_SETTIMEOUT was used instead, which expands to 0xc0045706, which
equals:
WDIOF_FANFAULT | WDIOF_EXTERN1 | WDIOF_PRETIMEOUT | WDIOF_ALARMONLY |
WDIOF_MAGICCLOSE | 0xc0045000
These were so far indicated to userspace on WDIOC_GETSUPPORT.
As the driver has not yet been migrated to the new watchdog kernel API,
the constant can just be dropped without substitute.

DW Watchdog can rise an interrupt in case if IRQ request mode is enabled
and timer reaches the zero value. In this case the IRQ lane is left
pending until either the next watchdog kick event (watchdog restart) or
until the WDT_EOI register is read or the device/system reset. This
interface can be used to implement the pre-timeout functionality
optionally provided by the Linux kernel watchdog devices.
IRQ mode provides a two stages timeout interface. It means the IRQ is
raised when the counter reaches zero, while the system reset occurs only
after subsequent timeout if the timer restart is not performed. Due to
this peculiarity the pre-timeout value is actually set to the achieved
hardware timeout, while the real watchdog timeout is considered to be
twice as much of it. This applies a significant limitation on the
pre-timeout values, so current implementation supports either zero value,
which disables the pre-timeout events, or non-zero values, which imply
the pre-timeout to be at least half of the current watchdog timeout.
Note that we ask the interrupt controller to detect the rising-edge
pre-timeout interrupts to prevent the high-level-IRQs flood, since
if the pre-timeout happens, the IRQ lane will be left pending until
it's cleared by the timer restart.

DW Watchdog IP core can be synthesised with asynchronous timer/APB
clocks support (WDT_ASYNC_CLK_MODE_ENABLE == 1). In this case
separate clock signals are supposed to be used to feed watchdog timer
and APB interface of the device. Currently the driver supports
the synchronous mode only. Since there is no way to determine which
mode was actually activated for device from its registers, we have to
rely on the platform device configuration data. If optional "pclk"
clock source is supplied, we consider the device working in asynchronous
mode, otherwise the driver falls back to the synchronous configuration.

In case if the DW Watchdog IP core is synthesised with
WDT_USE_FIX_TOP == false, the TOP interval indexes make the device
to load a custom periods to the counter. These periods are hardwired
at the IP synthesis stage and can be within [2^8, 2^(WDT_CNT_WIDTH - 1)].
Alas their values can't be detected at runtime and must be somehow
supplied to the driver so one could properly determine the watchdog
timeout intervals. For this purpose we suggest to have a vendor-
specific dts property "snps,watchdog-tops" utilized, which would
provide an array of sixteen counter values. At device probe stage they
will be used to initialize the watchdog device timeouts determined
from the array values and current clocks source rate.
In order to have custom TOP values supported the driver must be
altered in the following way. First of all the fixed-top values
ready-to-use array must be determined for compatibility with currently
supported devices, which were synthesised with WDT_USE_FIX_TOP == true.
It will be used if either fixed TOP feature is detected being enabled or
no custom TOPs are fetched from the device dt node. Secondly at the probe
stage we must initialize an array of the watchdog timeouts corresponding
to the detected TOPs list and the reference clock rate. For generality the
procedure of initialization is designed in a way to support the TOPs array
with no limitations on the items order or value. Finally the watchdog
period search methods should be altered to support the new timeouts data
structure.

There is actually no need to ping the watchdog before disabling it
during timeout change. Disabling the watchdog already takes care of
resetting the counter.
This fixes an issue during boot when the userspace watchdog handler takes
over and the watchdog is already running. Opening the watchdog in this case
leads to the first ping and directly after that without the required
heartbeat delay a second ping issued by the set_timeout call. Due to the
missing delay this resulted in a reset.

This driver only creates a bunch of platform devices sharing resources
belonging to the PMC device. This is pretty much what MFD subsystem is
for so move the driver there, renaming it to intel_pmc_bxt.c which
should be more clear what it is.
MFD subsystem provides nice helper APIs for subdevice creation so
convert the driver to use those. Unfortunately the ACPI device includes
separate resources for most of the subdevices so we cannot simply call
mfd_add_devices() to create all of them but instead we need to call it
separately for each device.
The new MFD driver continues to expose two sysfs attributes that allow
userspace to send IPC commands to the PMC/SCU to avoid breaking any
existing applications that may use these. Generally this is bad idea so
document this in the ABI documentation.

Many watchdog drivers use watchdog_stop_on_reboot() helper in order
to stop the watchdog on system reboot. Unfortunately, this logic is
coded in driver's probe function and doesn't allows user to decide what
to do during shutdown/reboot.
On the other side, Xen and Qemu watchdog drivers (xen_wdt and i6300esb)
may be configured to either send NMI or turn off/reboot VM as
the watchdog action. As the kernel may stuck at any state, sending NMIs
can't reliably reboot the VM.
At Arista, we benefited from the following set-up: the emulated watchdogs
trigger VM reset and softdog is set to catch less severe conditions to
generate vmcore. Just before reboot watchdog's timeout is increased
to some good-enough value (3 mins). That keeps watchdog always running
and guarantees that VM doesn't stuck.
Provide new stop_on_reboot module parameter to let user control
watchdog's reboot policy.

The da9062 hw has a minimum ping cool down phase of at least 200ms. The
driver takes that into account by setting the min_hw_heartbeat_ms to
300ms and the core guarantees that the hw limit is observed for the
ping() calls. But the core can't guarantee the required minimum ping
cool down phase if a stop() command is send immediately after the ping()
command. So it is not allowed to ping the watchdog within the stop()
command as the driver does. Remove the ping can be done without doubts
because the watchdog gets disabled anyway and a (re)start resets the
watchdog counter too.

If the BIOS default timeout for the watchdog is too small userspace may
not have enough time to configure new timeout after opening the device
before the system is already reset. For this reason program default
timeout of 30 seconds in the driver probe and allow userspace to change
this from command line or through module parameter (wdat_wdt.timeout).

The restart handler is executed during the shutdown phase which is
atomic/irq-less. The i2c framework supports atomic transfers since
commit 63b96983a5 ("i2c: core: introduce callbacks for atomic
transfers") to address this use case. Using regmap within an atomic
context is allowed only if the regmap type is MMIO and the cache type
'flat' or no cache is used. Using the i2c_smbus_write_byte_data()
function can be done without additional tests because:
1) the DA9062 is an i2c-only device and
2) the i2c framework emulates the smbus protocol if the host adapter
does not support smbus_xfer by using the master_xfer.

Pull removal of most of fs/compat_ioctl.c from Arnd Bergmann:
"As part of the cleanup of some remaining y2038 issues, I came to
fs/compat_ioctl.c, which still has a couple of commands that need
support for time64_t.
In completely unrelated work, I spent time on cleaning up parts of
this file in the past, moving things out into drivers instead.
After Al Viro reviewed an earlier version of this series and did a lot
more of that cleanup, I decided to try to completely eliminate the
rest of it and move it all into drivers.
This series incorporates some of Al's work and many patches of my own,
but in the end stops short of actually removing the last part, which
is the scsi ioctl handlers. I have patches for those as well, but they
need more testing or possibly a rewrite"

Instead of requesting the "ext" clock and handling the watchdog clock
divider and gating in the watchdog driver, we now request and use the
"wdt" clock that is supplied by the ingenic-timer "TCU" driver.
The major benefit is that the watchdog's clock rate and parent can now
be specified from within devicetree, instead of hardcoded in the driver.
Also, this driver won't poke anymore into the TCU registers to
enable/disable the clock, as this is now handled by the TCU driver.
On the bad side, we break the ABI with devicetree - as we now request a
different clock. In this very specific case it is still okay, as every
Ingenic JZ47xx-based board out there compile the devicetree within the
kernel; so it's still time to push breaking changes, in order to get a
clean devicetree that won't break once it musn't.

The ast2600 no longer uses bit 4 in the control register to indicate a
1MHz clock (It now controls whether this watchdog is reset by a SOC
reset). This means we do not want to set it. It also does not need to be
set for the ast2500, as it is read-only on that SoC.
The comment next to the clock rate selection wandered away from where it
was set, so put it back next to the register setting it's describing.

It can be useful to delay setting the nowayout feature for a watchdog
device. Moreover, not every driver (notably gpio_wdt) implements a
nowayout module parameter/otherwise respects CONFIG_WATCHDOG_NOWAYOUT,
and modifying those drivers carries a risk of causing a regression for
someone who has two watchdog devices, sets CONFIG_WATCHDOG_NOWAYOUT
and somehow relies on the gpio_wdt driver being ignorant of
that (i.e., allowing one to gracefully close a gpio_wdt but not the
other watchdog in the system).
So instead, simply make the nowayout sysfs file writable. Obviously,
setting nowayout is a one-way street.

When PREEMPT_RT is enabled, all hrtimer expiry functions are
deferred for execution into the context of ksoftirqd unless otherwise
annotated.
Deferring the expiry of the hrtimer used by the watchdog core, however,
is a waste, as the callback does nothing but queue a kthread work item
and wakeup watchdogd.
It's worst then that, too: the deferral through ksoftirqd also means
that for correct behavior a user must adjust the scheduling parameters
of both watchdogd _and_ ksoftirqd, which is unnecessary and has other
side effects (like causing unrelated expiry functions to execute at
potentially elevated priority).
Instead, mark the hrtimer used by the watchdog core as being _HARD to
allow it's execution directly from hardirq context. The work done in
this expiry function is well-bounded and minimal.
A user still must adjust the scheduling parameters of the watchdogd
to be correct w.r.t. their application needs.

This is a common issue when using cdev embedded in a struct.
Fortunately, we already have a mechanism to solve this kind of issue.

In this patch, we choose to embed the struct device into the

All watchdog drivers implement the same set of ioctl commands, and
fortunately all of them are compatible between 32-bit and 64-bit
architectures.
Modern drivers always go through drivers/watchdog/wdt.c as an abstraction
layer, but older ones implement their own file_operations on a character
device for this.
Move the handling from fs/compat_ioctl.c into the individual drivers.
Note that most of the legacy drivers will never be used on 64-bit
hardware, because they are for an old 32-bit SoC implementation, but
doing them all at once is safer than trying to guess which ones do
or do not need the compat_ioctl handling.

Set WDT_CLEAR_TIMEOUT_AND_BOOT_CODE_SELECTION into WDT_CLEAR_TIMEOUT_STATUS
to clear out boot code source and re-enable access to the primary SPI flash
chip while booted via wdt2 from the alternate chip.
AST2400 datasheet says:
"In the 2nd flash booting mode, all the address mapping to CS0# would be
re-directed to CS1#. And CS0# is not accessible under this mode. To access
CS0#, firmware should clear the 2nd boot mode register in the WDT2 status
register WDT30.bit[1]."
