Since we have removed NCE (Neighbour Cache Entry) reference from
routing entries, the only refcnt holders of an NCE are its timer
(if running) and its owner table, in usual cases. As a result,
neigh_periodic_work() purges NCEs over and over again even for
gateways.
It does not make sense to purge entries, if number of them is
very small, so keep them. The minimum number of entries to keep
is specified by gc_thresh1.

git commit 9cb3a50c (ipv4: Invalidate the socket cached route on
pmtu events if possible) introduced a refcount problem. We don't
get a refcount on the route if we get it from__sk_dst_get(), but
we need one if we want to reuse this route because __sk_dst_set()
releases the refcount of the old route. This patch adds proper
refcount handling for that case. We introduce a 'new' flag to
indicate that we are going to use a new route and we release the
old route only if we replace it by a new one.

Commit 6a328d8c6f changed the update
logic for the socket but it does not update the SCM_RIGHTS update
as well. This patch is based on the net_prio fix commit
48a87cc26c
net: netprio: fd passed in SCM_RIGHTS datagram not set correctly
A socket fd passed in a SCM_RIGHTS datagram was not getting
updated with the new tasks cgrp prioidx. This leaves IO on
the socket tagged with the old tasks priority.
To fix this add a check in the scm recvmsg path to update the
sock cgrp prioidx with the new tasks value.
Let's apply the same fix for net_cls.

The check for LRO packets was incorrectly put in the transmit path
instead of on receive. Since this check is supposed to protect OVS
(and other parts of the system) from packets that it cannot handle
it is obviously not useful on egress. Therefore, this commit moves
it back to the receive side.
The primary problem that this caused is upcalls to userspace tried
to segment the packet even though no segmentation information is
available. This would later cause NULL pointer dereferences when
skb_gso_segment() did nothing.

The slave MII bus registered by the DSA code is using the parent MII bus

This is a genuine warning, because the DSA slave MII bus will also be

The route lookup in ipv4_sk_update_pmtu() might return a route
different from the route we cached at the socket. This is because
standart routes are per cpu, so each cpu has it's own struct rtable.
This means that we do not invalidate the socket cached route if the
NET_RX_SOFTIRQ is not served by the same cpu that the sending socket
uses. As a result, the cached route reused until we disconnect.
With this patch we invalidate the socket cached route if possible.
If the socket is owened by the user, we can't update the cached
route directly. A followup patch will implement socket release
callback functions for datagram sockets to handle this case.

This patch add the support of proxy multicast, ie being able to build a static
multicast tree. It adds the support of (*,*) and (*,G) entries.
The user should define an (*,*) entry which is not used for real forwarding.
This entry defines the upstream in iif and contains all interfaces from the
static tree in its oifs. It will be used to forward packet upstream when they
come from an interface belonging to the static tree.
Hence, the user should define (*,G) entries to build its static tree. Note that
upstream interface must be part of oifs: packets are sent to all oifs
interfaces except the input interface. This ensures to always join the whole
static tree, even if the packet is not coming from the upstream interface.

Most SIP devices use a source port of 5060/udp on SIP requests, so the
response automatically comes back to port 5060:
phone_ip:5060 -> proxy_ip:5060 REGISTER
proxy_ip:5060 -> phone_ip:5060 100 Trying
The newer Cisco IP phones, however, use a randomly chosen high source
port for the SIP request but expect the response on port 5060:
phone_ip:49173 -> proxy_ip:5060 REGISTER
proxy_ip:5060 -> phone_ip:5060 100 Trying
Standard Linux NAT, with or without nf_nat_sip, will send the reply back
to port 49173, not 5060:
phone_ip:49173 -> proxy_ip:5060 REGISTER
proxy_ip:5060 -> phone_ip:49173 100 Trying
But the phone is not listening on 49173, so it will never see the reply.
This patch modifies nf_*_sip to work around this quirk by extracting
the SIP response port from the Via: header, iff the source IP in the
packet header matches the source IP in the SIP request.

Increase the amount of memory usage limits for incomplete
IP fragments.
Arguing for new thresh high/low values:
High threshold = 4 MBytes
Low threshold = 3 MBytes
The fragmentation memory accounting code, tries to account for the
real memory usage, by measuring both the size of frag queue struct
(inet_frag_queue (ipv4:ipq/ipv6:frag_queue)) and the SKB's truesize.
We want to be able to handle/hold-on-to enough fragments, to ensure
good performance, without causing incomplete fragments to hurt
scalability, by causing the number of inet_frag_queue to grow too much
(resulting longer searches for frag queues).
For IPv4, how much memory does the largest frag consume.
Maximum size fragment is 64K, which is approx 44 fragments with
MTU(1500) sized packets. Sizeof(struct ipq) is 200. A 1500 byte
packet results in a truesize of 2944 (not 2048 as I first assumed)
(44*2944)+200 = 129736 bytes
The current default high thresh of 262144 bytes, is obviously
problematic, as only two 64K fragments can fit in the queue at the
same time.
How many 64K fragment can we fit into 4 MBytes:
4*2^20/((44*2944)+200) = 32.34 fragment in queues
An attacker could send a separate/distinct fake fragment packets per
queue, causing us to allocate one inet_frag_queue per packet, and thus
attacking the hash table and its lists.
How many frag queue do we need to store, and given a current hash size
of 64, what is the average list length.
Using one MTU sized fragment per inet_frag_queue, each consuming
(2944+200) 3144 bytes.
4*2^20/(2944+200) = 1334 frag queues -> 21 avg list length
An attack could send small fragments, the smallest packet I could send
resulted in a truesize of 896 bytes (I'm a little surprised by this).
4*2^20/(896+200) = 3827 frag queues -> 59 avg list length
When increasing these number, we also need to followup with
improvements, that is going to help scalability. Simply increasing
the hash size, is not enough as the current implementation does not
have a per hash bucket locking.

Commit 299b0767 (ipv6: Fix IPsec slowpath fragmentation problem)
has introduced a error in the header length calculation that
provokes corrupted packets when non-fragmentable extensions
headers (Destination Option or Routing Header Type 2) are used.
rt->rt6i_nfheader_len is the length of the non-fragmentable
extension header, and it should be substracted to
rt->dst.header_len, and not to exthdrlen, as it was done before
commit 299b0767.
This patch reverts to the original and correct behavior. It has
been successfully tested with and without IPsec on packets
that include non-fragmentable extensions headers.

While a privileged program can open a raw socket, attach some
restrictive filter and drop its privileges (or send the socket to an
unprivileged program through some Unix socket), the filter can still
be removed or modified by the unprivileged program. This commit adds a
socket option to lock the filter (SO_LOCK_FILTER) preventing any
modification of a socket filter program.
This is similar to OpenBSD BIOCLOCK ioctl on bpf sockets, except even
root is not allowed change/drop the filter.
The state of the lock can be read with getsockopt(). No error is
triggered if the state is not changed. -EPERM is returned when a user
tries to remove the lock or to change/remove the filter while the lock
is active. The check is done directly in sk_attach_filter() and
sk_detach_filter() and does not affect only setsockopt() syscall.

As per email discussion Jouni Malinen pointed out that:
"P2P message exchanges can be executed on the current operating channel
of any operation (both P2P and non-P2P station). These can be on 5 GHz
and even on 60 GHz (so yes, you _can_ do GO Negotiation on 60 GHz).
As an example, it would be possible to receive a GO Negotiation Request
frame on a 5 GHz only radio and then to complete GO Negotiation on that
band. This can happen both when connected to a P2P group (through client
discoverability mechanism) and when connected to a legacy AP (assuming
the station receive Probe Request frame from full scan in the beginning
of P2P device discovery)."
This means that P2P messages can be sent over different radio devices.
However, these should use the same P2P device address so it should be
able to provision this from user-space. This patch adds a parameter for
this to struct vif_params which should only be used during creation of
the P2P device interface.

mac80211: Optimize scans on current operating channel.
we do not disable PS while going back to operational channel (on
ieee80211_scan_state_suspend) and deffer that until scan finish.
But since we are allowed to send frames, we can send a frame to AP
without PM bit set, so disable PS on AP side. Then when we switch
to off-channel (in ieee80211_scan_state_resume) we do not enable PS.
Hence we are off-channel with PS disabled, frames are not buffered
by AP.
To fix remove offchannel_ps_disable argument and always enable PS when
going off-channel and disable it when going on-channel, like it was
before.

During FT roaming, wpa_supplicant attempts to set the
key before association. This used to be rejected, but
as a side effect of my commit 66e67e4189
("mac80211: redesign auth/assoc") the key was accepted
causing hardware crypto to not be used for it as the
station isn't added to the driver yet.
It would be possible to accept the key and then add it
to the driver when the station has been added. However,
this may run into issues with drivers using the state-
based station adding if they accept the key only after
association like it used to be.
For now, revert to the behaviour from before the auth
and assoc change.

The flags argument of the phy_{attach,connect,connect_direct} functions
is then used to assign a struct phy_device dev_flags with its value.
All callers but the tg3 driver pass the flag 0, which results in the
underlying PHY drivers in drivers/net/phy/ not being able to actually
use any of the flags they would set in dev_flags. This patch gets rid of
the flags argument, and passes phydev->dev_flags to the internal PHY
library call phy_attach_direct() such that drivers which actually modify
a phy device dev_flags get the value preserved for use by the underlying
phy driver.

netlink sockets in different network namespaces. Instead, pass the
"struct net *" down along the call chain to where it is needed.

Commit 7a3198a8 ("ipv6: helper function to get tclass") introduced
ipv6_tclass(), but similar function is already available as

We might be able to call ipv6_tclass() from ipv6_get_dsfield(),
but it is confusing to have two versions.

This is not only for readability but also for optimization.
What we do here is to build the 32bit word at the beginning of the ipv6
header (the "ip6_flow" virtual member of struct ip6_hdr in RFC3542) and
we do not need to read the tclass portion of the target buffer.

arptables 0.0.4 (released on 10th Jan 2013) supports calling the
CLASSIFY target, but on adding a rule to the wrong chain, the
diagnostic is as follows:
# arptables -A INPUT -j CLASSIFY --set-class 0:0
arptables: Invalid argument
# dmesg | tail -n1
x_tables: arp_tables: CLASSIFY target: used from hooks
PREROUTING, but only usable from INPUT/FORWARD
This is incorrect, since xt_CLASSIFY.c does specify
(1 << NF_ARP_OUT) | (1 << NF_ARP_FORWARD).
This patch corrects the x_tables diagnostic message to print the
proper hook names for the NFPROTO_ARP case.

Currently, the nf_ct_destroy hook is being set to NULL in the

The current timeout is set to one hour. However a client connected to the mesh
network will always generate traffic. In the worst case it will send ARP

After alloc_netdev*() call, some cfg80211 drivers provide they own

But after Eric's commit, dev->ethtool_ops is no longer NULL (on cfg80211

This change is meant to address several issues I found within the
netif_set_xps_queues function.
If the allocation of one of the maps to be assigned to new_dev_maps failed
we could end up with the device map in an inconsistent state since we had
already worked through a number of CPUs and removed or added the queue. To
address that I split the process into several steps. The first of which is
just the allocation of updated maps for CPUs that will need larger maps to
store the queue. By doing this we can fail gracefully without actually
altering the contents of the current device map.
The second issue I found was the fact that we were always allocating a new
device map even if we were not adding any queues. I have updated the code
so that we only allocate a new device map if we are adding queues,
otherwise if we are not adding any queues to CPUs we just skip to the
removal process.
The last change I made was to reuse the code from remove_xps_queue to remove
the queue from the CPU. By making this change we can be consistent in how
we go about adding and removing the queues from the CPUs.

This patch does a minor refactor on netif_reset_xps_queue to address a few
items I noticed.
First is the fact that we are doing removal of queues in both
netif_reset_xps_queue and netif_set_xps_queue. Since there is no need to
have the code in two places I am pushing it out into a separate function
and will come back in another patch and reuse the code in
netif_set_xps_queue.
The second item this change addresses is the fact that the Tx queues were
not getting their numa_node value cleared as a part of the XPS queue reset.
This patch resolves that by resetting the numa_node value if the dev_maps
value is set.

This patch adds two functions, netif_reset_xps_queue and
netif_set_xps_queue. The main idea behind these two functions is to
provide a mechanism through which drivers can update their defaults in
regards to XPS.
Currently no such mechanism exists and as a result we cannot use XPS for
things such as ATR which would require a basic configuration to start in
which the Tx queues are mapped to CPUs via a 1:1 mapping. With this change
I am making it possible for drivers such as ixgbe to be able to use the XPS
feature by controlling the default configuration.

One long standing problem with TSO/GSO/GRO packets is that skb->len
doesn't represent a precise amount of bytes on wire.
Headers are only accounted for the first segment.
For TCP, thats typically 66 bytes per 1448 bytes segment missing,
an error of 4.5 % for normal MSS value.
As consequences :
1) TBF/CBQ/HTB/NETEM/... can send more bytes than the assigned limits.
2) Device stats are slightly under estimated as well.
Fix this by taking account of headers in qdisc_skb_cb(skb)->pkt_len
computation.
Packet schedulers should use qdisc pkt_len instead of skb->len for their
bandwidth limitations, and TSO enabled devices drivers could use pkt_len
if their statistics are not hardware assisted, and if they don't scratch
skb->cb[] first word.
Both egress and ingress paths work, thanks to commit fda55eca5a

a GSO packet, it also set the transport header for us.

Replace ip6_route_lookup() with addrconf_get_prefix_route() when
looking up for a prefix route. This ensures that the connected prefix
is looked up in the main table, and avoids the selection of other
matching routes located in different tables as well as blackhole
or prohibited entries.
In addition, this fixes an Opps introduced by commit 64c6d08e (ipv6:
del unreachable route when an addr is deleted on lo), that would occur
when a blackhole or prohibited entry is selected by ip6_route_lookup().
Such entries have a NULL rt6i_table argument, which is accessed by
__ip6_del_rt() when trying to lock rt6i_table->tb6_lock.
The function addrconf_is_prefix_route() is not used anymore and is
removed.

Some chips use a standard HCI event code, destined to a proprietary

The reference count bump on the llcp Rx path is leading to a memory leak
whenever we're not receiving an I frame.
We fix that by removing the refcount bump (drivers must not free their
received skb) and using it only in the I frame path, when the frame is
actually queued. In that case, the skb will only be freed when someone
fetches it from userspace. in all other cases, LLCP received frames will
be freed when leaving the Rx work queue.

My commit 379b82f4c9
("regulatory: pass new regdomain to reset function")
broke the restore_regulatory_settings() function due
to a logic change. Consider this change:
- reset_regdomains(true);
- cfg80211_regdomain = cfg80211_world_regdom;
+ reset_regdomains(true, cfg80211_world_regdom);
This looks innocent enough, until you realise that the
called function (reset_regdomains) also resets the
cfg80211_world_regdom pointer, so that the old version
of the code would use the new object it pointed to and
the new version of the code uses the old object. This
lead to a double-free of this object.
Since reset_regdomains() sets it to &world_regdom, use
that directly.

If the rpc_task exits while holding the socket write lock before it has
allocated an rpc slot, then the usual mechanism for releasing the write
lock in xprt_release() is defeated.
The problem occurs if the call to xprt_lock_write() initially fails, so
that the rpc_task is put on the xprt->sending wait queue. If the task
exits after being assigned the lock by __xprt_lock_write_func, but
before it has retried the call to xprt_lock_and_alloc_slot(), then
it calls xprt_release() while holding the write lock, but will
immediately exit due to the test for task->tk_rqstp != NULL.

Now that irq sum accounting for /proc/stat's "intr" line works again we
have the oddity that the sum field (first field) contains only the sum
of the second (external irqs) and third field (I/O interrupts).
The reason for that is that these two fields are already sums of all other
fields. So if we would sum up everything we would count every interrupt
twice.
This is broken since the split interrupt accounting was merged two years
ago: 052ff461c8 "[S390] irq: have detailed
statistics for interrupt types".
To fix this remove the split interrupt fields from /proc/stat's "intr"
line again and only have them in /proc/interrupts.
This restores the old behaviour, seems to be the only sane fix and mimics
a behaviour from other architectures where /proc/interrupts also contains
more than /proc/stat's "intr" line does.

Currently, the size of skb allocated for NDISC is MAX_HEADER +
LL_RESERVED_SPACE(dev) + packet length + dev->needed_tailroom,
but only LL_RESERVED_SPACE(dev) bytes is "reserved" for headers.
As a result, the skb looks like this (after construction of the
message):
head data tail end
+--------------------------------------------------------------+
+ | | | |
+--------------------------------------------------------------+
|<-hlen---->|<---ipv6 packet------>|<--tlen-->|<--MAX_HEADER-->|
=LL_ = dev
RESERVED_ ->needed_
SPACE(dev) tailroom
As the name implies, "MAX_HEADER" is used for headers, and should
be "reserved" in prior to packet construction. Or, if some space
is really required at the tail of ther skb, it should be
explicitly documented.
We have several option after construction of NDISC message:
Option 1:
head data tail end
+---------------------------------------------+
+ | | |
+---------------------------------------------+
|<-hlen---->|<---ipv6 packet------>|<--tlen-->|
=LL_ = dev
RESERVED_ ->needed_
SPACE(dev) tailroom
Option 2:
head data tail end
+--------------------------------------------------+
+ | | |
+--------------------------------------------------+
|<--MAX_HEADER-->|<---ipv6 packet------>|<--tlen-->|
= dev
->needed_
tailroom
Option 3:
head data tail end
+--------------------------------------------------------------+
+ | | | |
+--------------------------------------------------------------+
|<--MAX_HEADER-->|<-hlen---->|<---ipv6 packet------>|<--tlen-->|
=LL_ = dev
RESERVED_ ->needed_
SPACE(dev) tailroom
Our tunnel drivers try expanding headroom and the space for tunnel
encapsulation was not a mandatory space -- so we are not seeing
bugs here --, but just for optimization for performance critial
situations.
Since NDISC messages are not performance critical unlike TCP,
and as we know outgoing device, LL_RESERVED_SPACE(dev) should be
just enough for the device in most (if not all) cases:
LL_RESERVED_SPACE(dev) <= LL_MAX_HEADER <= MAX_HEADER
Note that LL_RESERVED_SPACE(dev) is also enough for NDISC over
SIT (e.g., ISATAP).
So, I think Option 1 is just fine here.

the connection is dropped then the driver should drop
all frames, otherwise the frames may continue to be
transmitted, aggregated in the case of a locally
requested session stop or unaggregated in the case of
the peer requesting session stop.
Split these different cases so that the driver can
act accordingly; however, treat local and remote stop
the same way and ask the driver to not send frames as
aggregated packets any more.
In the case of connection drop, the stop callback the
driver is otherwise supposed to call is no longer
required.

The initiator/tx doesn't really identify why an
aggregation session is stopped, give a reason
for stopping that more clearly identifies what's
going on. This will help tell the driver clearly
what is expected of it.

Today, stations are added already associated. That is
inefficient if, for example, the driver has no room
for stations any more because then the station will
go through the entire auth/assoc handshake, only to
be kicked out afterwards.
To address this a bit better, at least with drivers
using the new station state callback, allow hostapd
to add stations in unauthenticated mode, just after
receiving the AUTH frame, before even replying. Thus
if there's no more space at that point, it can send
a negative auth frame back. It still needs to handle
later state transition errors though, of course.

if some of the VHT capabilities of the station are better
than their own. Restrict the assoc request parameters
- beamformee capabable,
- RX STBC and
- RX MCS set
to the subset that the AP can support.

is not world roaming. Without this we were always adding
a beacon hint if not world roaming for every non world
roaming wiphy interface.

Regulatory beacon hints are used to help with world roaming
and as it is right now we learn from a beacon hint processed
on one wiphy to all other wiphys. The processing of beacon
hints however is scheduled and if we have a lot of interfaces
we may hit the case that we'll queue a the same beacon hint
many times until its processed.
To avoid this do a lookup on the queued up beacon hints prior
to adding a new beacon hint. If the beacon hint is removed
from the pending reg beacon hint list then it would be processed
and we'd ensure all wiphys would have learned from it, if its
on the pending reg beacon list we'd now find it prior to it
being processed.

Instead of checking every time bss_info_changed is called,
assign the pointer once depending on the interface type
and then leave it untouched until the interface type is
changed. This makes the ieee80211_bss_info_change_notify()
now a simple wrapper to call the driver only.
Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes.berg@intel.com>
The special case in the function isn't really needed,
instead make the suspend code a bit better and also
easier to understand and move the warning into the
driver op wrapper inline.

For AP/IBSS/mesh interfaces, call the driver to reconfigure
bss_info_changed only if the interface was beaconing before
suspend, otherwise we call the driver and it might interpret
the change as going from enabled to disabled.
Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes.berg@intel.com>
Instead of calculating in ieee80211_bss_info_change_notify()
whether beaconing should be enabled or not, set it in the
correct places in the callers. This simplifies the logic in
this function at the expense of offchannel, but is also more
robust.

During suspend/resume channel contexts might be
iterated even if they haven't been re-added to
the driver, keep track of this and skip them in
iteration. Also use the new status for sanity
checks.
Also clarify the fact that during HW restart all
contexts are iterated over (thanks Eliad.)

When suspending, bss_info_changed() is called to
disable beacons, but managed mode interfaces are
simply removed (bss_info_changed() is called with
"no change" only). This can lead to problems.
To fix this and copy the BSS configuration, clear
it during suspend and restore it on resume.

It's a bit odd that there's a return value that only
depends on the iftype, move that logic out of the
function into the only caller that needs it.
Also, since the quiescing could stop timers that
trigger the sdata work, move the sdata work cancel
into the function and after the actual quiesce.
Finally, there's no need to call it on interfaces
that are down, so don't.

The probe response/beacon management frame RX code passes a
bool parameter to differentiate beacons and probe responses.
This is useless since we have the frame and can thus use its
frame control field. Moreover it is buggy since there is one
call to ieee80211_rx_bss_info with a beacon frame that is
indicated as a probe response, which is also fixed by using
the frame control field, so do that.

If there are VLANs, stopping an AP is inefficient as it
calls rcu_barrier() once for each interface (the VLANs
and the AP itself). Optimise this by moving rcu_barrier()
out of the station cleanups and calling it only once for
all interfaces combined.

There's a bug with the world regulatory domain, it
can be updated any time which is different from all
other regdomains that can only be updated once after
a request for them. Fix this by adding a check for
"processed" to the reg_is_valid_request() function
and clear that when doing a request.
While looking at this I also found another locking
bug, last_request is protected by the reg_mutex not
the cfg80211_mutex so the code in nl80211 is racy.
Remove that code as it only tries to prevent an
allocation in an error case, which isn't necessary.
Then the function can also become static and locking
in nl80211 can have a smaller scope.
Also change __set_regdom() to do the checks earlier
and not different for world/other regdomains.

Many places that currently check that cfg80211_mutex
is held don't actually use any data protected by it.
The functions that need to hold the cfg80211_mutex
are the ones using the cfg80211_regdomain variable,
so add the lock assertion to those and clarify this
in the comments.
The reason for this is that nl80211 uses the regdom
without being able to hold reg_mutex.

The function itself has dual-purpose: it can
retrieve from a given regdomain or from the
globally installed one. Change it to have a
single purpose only: to look up from a given
regdomain. Pass the correct regdomain in the
freq_reg_info() function instead.
This also changes the locking rules for it,
no locking is required any more.
