50628d3479 cirrus/vnc: zap bitblit support from console code.
There is a special code path (dpy_gfx_copy) to allow graphic emulation
notify user interface code about bitblit operations carryed out by
guests. It is supported by cirrus and vnc server. The intended purpose
is to optimize display scrolls and just send over the scroll op instead
of a full display update.

This is rarely used these days though because modern guests simply don't
use the cirrus blitter any more. Any linux guest using the cirrus drm
driver doesn't. Any windows guest newer than winxp doesn't ship with a
cirrus driver any more and thus uses the cirrus as simple framebuffer.

So this code tends to bitrot and bugs can go unnoticed for a long time.
See for example commit "3e10c3e vnc: fix qemu crash because of SIGSEGV"
which fixes a bug lingering in the code for almost a year, added by
commit "c7628bf vnc: only alloc server surface with clients connected".

Also the vnc server will throttle the frame rate in case it figures the
network can't keep up (send buffers are full). This doesn't work with
dpy_gfx_copy, for any copy operation sent to the vnc client we have to
send all outstanding updates beforehand, otherwise the vnc client might
run the client side blit on outdated data and thereby corrupt the
display. So this dpy_gfx_copy "optimization" might even make things
worse on slow network links.

Lets kill it once for all.

Oh, and one more reason: Turns out (after writing the patch) we have a
security bug in that code path ...

857e479552 ui: Use XkbGetMap and XkbGetNames instead of XkbGetKeyboard
XkbGetKeyboard does not work in XWayland and even on non-Wayland
X11 servers its use is discouraged:

  https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89240

This resolves a problem whereby QEMU prints

  "could not lookup keycode name"

on startup when running under XWayland. Keymap handling is
however still broken after this commit, since Xwayland is
reporting a keymap we can't handle

  "unknown keycodes `(unnamed)', please report to qemu-devel@nongnu.org"

NB, native Wayland support (which is the default under GTK3) is
not affected - only XWayland (which can be requested with GDK_BACKEND
on GTK3, and is the only option for GTK2).

57a6d6d538 ui: let VNC server listen on all resolved IP addresses
Remove the limitation that the VNC server can only listen on
a single resolved IP address. This uses the new DNS resolver
API to resolve a SocketAddress struct into an array of
SocketAddress structs containing raw IP addresses. The VNC
server will then attempt to listen on all resolved IP addresses.
The server must successfully listen on at least one of the
resolved IP addresses, otherwise an error will be reported.

275e0d616b ui: refactor code for populating SocketAddress from vnc_display_open
The code which interprets the CLI args to populate the SocketAddress
objects for plain & websockets VNC is quite complex already and will
need further enhancements shortly. Refactor it into separate methods
to avoid vnc_display_open getting even larger. As a side effect of
the refactoring, it is now possible to specify a listen address for
the websocket server explicitly. e.g,

  -vnc localhost:5900,websockets=0.0.0.0:8080

will listen on localhost for the plain VNC server, but expose the
websockets VNC server on the public interface. This refactoring
also removes the restriction that prevents enabling websockets
when the plain VNC server is listening on a UNIX socket.

4ee74fa708 ui: refactor VncDisplay to allow multiple listening sockets
Currently there is only a single listener for plain VNC and
a single listener for websockets VNC. This means that if
getaddrinfo() returns multiple IP addresses, for a hostname,
the VNC server can only listen on one of them. This is
just bearable if listening on wildcard interface, or if
the host only has a single network interface to listen on,
but if there are multiple NICs and the VNC server needs
to listen on 2 or more specific IP addresses, it can't be
done.

This refactors the VncDisplay state so that it holds an
array of listening sockets, but still only listens on
one socket.

2a7e6857cd ui: fix reporting of VNC auth in query-vnc-servers
Currently the VNC authentication info is emitted at the
top level of the query-vnc-servers data. This is wrong
because the authentication scheme differs between plain
and websockets when TLS is enabled. We should instead
report auth against the individual servers. e.g.

(QEMU) query-vnc-servers
{
    "return": [
        {
            "clients": [],
            "id": "default",
            "auth": "vencrypt",
            "vencrypt": "x509-vnc",
            "server": [
                {
                    "host": "127.0.0.1"
                    "service": "5901",
                    "websocket": false,
                    "family": "ipv4",
                    "auth": "vencrypt",
                    "vencrypt": "x509-vnc"
                },
                {
                    "host": "127.0.0.1",
                    "service": "5902",
                    "websocket": true,
                    "family": "ipv4",
                    "auth": "vnc"
                }
            ]
        }
    ]
}

This also future proofs the QMP schema so that we can
cope with multiple VNC server instances, listening on
different interfaces or ports, with different auth
setup.

537848ee62 vnc: do not disconnect on EAGAIN
When qemu vnc server is trying to send large update to clients,
there might be a situation when system responds with something
like EAGAIN, indicating that there's no system memory to send
that much data (depending on the network speed, client and server
and what is happening). In this case, something like this happens
on qemu side (from strace):

sendmsg(16, {msg_name(0)=NULL,
        msg_iov(1)=[{"\244\"..., 729186}],
        msg_controllen=0, msg_flags=0}, 0) = 103950
sendmsg(16, {msg_name(0)=NULL,
        msg_iov(1)=[{"lz\346"..., 1559618}],
        msg_controllen=0, msg_flags=0}, 0) = -1 EAGAIN
sendmsg(-1, {msg_name(0)=NULL,
        msg_iov(1)=[{"lz\346"..., 1559618}],
        msg_controllen=0, msg_flags=0}, 0) = -1 EBADF

qemu closes the socket before the retry, and obviously it gets EBADF
when trying to send to -1.

This is because there WAS a special handling for EAGAIN, but now it doesn't
work anymore, after commit 04d2529da2, because
now in all error-like cases we initiate vnc disconnect.

This change were introduced in qemu 2.6, and caused numerous grief for many
people, resulting in their vnc clients reporting sporadic random disconnects
from vnc server.

Fix that by doing the disconnect only when necessary, i.e. omitting this
very case of EAGAIN.

Hopefully the existing condition (comparing with QIO_CHANNEL_ERR_BLOCK)
is sufficient, as the original code (before the above commit) were
checking for other errno values too.

Apparently there's another (semi?)bug exist somewhere here, since the
code tries to write to fd# -1, it probably should check if the connection
is open before. But this isn't important.

27b224a61f gtk: Hardcode LC_CTYPE as C.utf-8
Commit 2cb5d2a4 removed setlocale() for everything except LC_MESSAGES in
order to avoid unwanted side effects such as using the wrong decimal
separator in generated JSON objects. However, the problem that unsetting
LC_CTYPE caused is that non-ASCII characters are considered
non-printable now and therefore the GTK menus display question marks for
accented letters, Chinese characters etc.

A first attempt to fix this [1] was rejected because even just setting
LC_CTYPE to the user's locale (and thereby modifying the semantics of
the ctype.h functions) could have unwanted effects that we're not aware
of yet.

Recently, however, glibc introduced a new locale "C.utf-8" that just
uses UTF-8 as its charset, but otherwise leaves the semantics alone.
Just setting the right character set is enough for our use case, so we
can just hardcode this one without having to be afraid of nasty side
effects.

Older systems that don't have the new locale will continue displaying
question marks, but this should fix the problem for most users.

qemu_chr_new_from_opts() is modified to not need CharDriver backend[]
array, but uses instead objectified qmp_query_chardev_backends() and

similar to QDevAlias for devices.

"kind" and "parse" are moved to ChardevClass ("kind" is to be removed

eebe0b7905 vnc: fix overflow in vnc_update_stats
Commit "bea60dd ui/vnc: fix potential memory corruption issues" is
incomplete. vnc_update_stats must calculate width and height the same
way vnc_refresh_server_surface does it, to make sure we don't use width
and height values larger than the qemu vnc server can handle.

Commit "e22492d ui/vnc: disable adaptive update calculations if not

777357d758 chardev: qom-ify
Turn Chardev into Object.

qemu_chr_alloc() is replaced by the qemu_chardev_new() constructor. It
will call qemu_char_open() to open/intialize the chardev with the
ChardevCommon *backend settings.

The CharDriver::create() callback is turned into a ChardevClass::open()
which is called from the newly introduced qemu_chardev_open().

"chardev-gdb" and "chardev-hci" are internal chardev and aren't
creatable directly with -chardev. Use a new internal flag to disable
them. We may want to use TYPE_USER_CREATABLE interface instead, or
perhaps allow -chardev usage.

Although in general we keep typename and macros private, unless the type
is being used by some other file, in this patch, all types and common
helper macros for qemu-char.c are in char.h. This is to help transition
now (some types must be declared early, while some aren't shared) and
when splitting in several units. This is to be improved later.

Gtk console is a bit peculiar, gd_vc_chr_set_echo() used to have a

f27ff81070 curses: Fix compiler warnings (Mingw-w64 redefinition of macro KEY_EVENT)
For builds with Mingw-w64 as it is included in Cygwin, there are two
header files which define KEY_EVENT with different values.

This results in lots of compiler warnings like this one:

  CC      vl.o
In file included from /qemu/include/ui/console.h:340:0,
                 from /qemu/vl.c:76:

 #define KEY_EVENT 0633  /* We were interrupted by an event */

In file included from /usr/share/mingw-w64/include/windows.h:74:0,
                 from /usr/share/mingw-w64/include/winsock2.h:23,
                 from /qemu/include/sysemu/os-win32.h:29,
                 from /qemu/include/qemu/osdep.h:100,
                 from /qemu/vl.c:24:
/usr/share/mingw-w64/include/wincon.h:101:0: note: this is the location of the previous definition
 #define KEY_EVENT 0x1

QEMU only uses the KEY_EVENT macro from wincon.h.
Therefore we can undefine the macro coming from curses.h.

The explicit include statement for curses.h in ui/curses.c is not needed
and was removed.

Those two modifications fix the redefinition warnings.

8561788520 ui/gtk: Fix non-working DELETE key
GTK generates key events for the delete key with key->string[0] = 0x7f
... but this does not work right with the readline_handle_byte()

this key behave right in the monitor interface of the GTK ui.

a4afa548fc char: move front end handlers in CharBackend
Since the hanlders are associated with a CharBackend, rather than the
CharDriverState, it is more appropriate to store in CharBackend. This
avoids the handler copy dance in qemu_chr_fe_set_handlers() then
mux_chr_update_read_handler(), by storing the CharBackend pointer
directly.

Also a mux CharDriver should go through mux->backends[focused], since
chr->be will stay NULL. Before that, it was possible to call
chr->handler by mistake with surprising results, for ex through
qemu_chr_be_can_write(), which would result in calling the last set
handler front end, not the one with focus.

2a57c55f26 input-linux: initialize key state
Query input device keys, initialize state accordingly, so the correct
state is reflected in case any key is pressed at initialization time.
There is a high chance for this to actually happen for the 'enter' key
in case you start qemu with a terminal command (directly or virsh).

When finding any pressed keys the input grab is delayed until all keys
are lifted, to avoid confusing guest and host with appearently stuck
keys.

90cd03a30e ui: move some initialization out of vnc_init_state
Most of the fields in VncState are initialized in the
vnc_connect() method, but some are done in vnc_init_state()
instead.

The purpose of having vnc_init_state() is to delay starting
of the VNC wire protocol until after the websockets handshake
has completed. As such the vnc_init_state() method only needs
to be used for initialization that is dependant on the wire
protocol running.

This also lets us get rid of the initialized boolean flag
from the VncState struct.

2df2041036 ui: remove bogus call to reset_keys() in vnc_init_state
The vnc_init_state method calls reset_keys() to reset the
modifier key state. This was originally added in

  commit 53762ddb27
  Author: malc <malc@c046a42c-6fe2-441c-8c8c-71466251a162>
  Date:   Mon Dec 1 20:57:52 2008 +0000

    Reset the key modifiers upon client connect

This was valid at this time because there was only the
single VncState object which was persistent across client
connections and so needed resetting.

The persistent data was later split off into VncDisplay
and VncState was allocated at time of client connection:

  commit 753b405331
  Author: aliguori <aliguori@c046a42c-6fe2-441c-8c8c-71466251a162>
  Date:   Mon Feb 16 14:59:30 2009 +0000

    Support multiple VNC clients (Brian Kress)

at which point the modifier state is always 0 due to
use of g_new0. As such the reset_keys() call has been
a no-op ever since.

4423184376 spice/gl: render DisplaySurface via opengl
This switches over spice (in opengl mode) to render DisplaySurface
updates into a opengl texture, using the helper functions in
ui/console-gl.c. With this patch applied spice (with gl=on) will
stop using qxl rendering ops, it will use dma-buf passing all the
time, i.e. for bios/bootloader (before virtio-gpu driver is loaded)
too.

This should improve performance even using spice (with gl=on) with
non-accelerated stdvga because we stop squeezing all display updates
through a unix/tcp socket and basically using a shared memory transport
instead.

The code path while meeting segfault:
 vnc_dpy_copy
   vnc_update_client
     vnc_disconnect_finish [while vnc_disconnect_start() is invoked because somethins wrong]
       vnc_update_server_surface
         vd->server = NULL;
   vnc_server_fb_stride
     pixman_image_get_stride(vd->server)

Let's add a non-NULL check before calling vnc_server_fb_stride() to avoid segmentation fault.

99a9ef44dc ui/curses.c: Clean up nextchr logic
Coverity identifies that at the top of the while(1) loop
in curses_refresh() the variable nextchr is always ERR,
and so the else case of the first if() is dead code.
Remove this dead code, and narrow the scope of the
nextchr variable to the place where it's used.

(This confused logic has been present since the curses
code was added to QEMU in 2008.)

b69a553b4a ui: fix refresh of VNC server surface
In previous commit

  commit c7628bff41
  Author: Gerd Hoffmann <kraxel@redhat.com>
  Date:   Fri Oct 30 12:10:09 2015 +0100

    vnc: only alloc server surface with clients connected

the VNC server was changed so that the 'vd->server' pixman
image was only allocated when a client is connected.

Since then if a client disconnects and then reconnects to
the VNC server all they will see is a black screen until
they do something that triggers a refresh. On a graphical
desktop this is not often noticed since there's many things
going on which cause a refresh. On a plain text console it
is really obvious since nothing refreshes frequently.

The problem is that the VNC server didn't update the guest
dirty bitmap, so still believes its server image is in sync
with the guest contents.

To fix this we must explicitly mark the entire guest desktop
as dirty after re-creating the server surface. Move this
logic into vnc_update_server_surface() so it is guaranteed
to be call in all code paths that re-create the surface
instead of only in vnc_dpy_switch()

3e7f136d8b vnc: fix crash when vnc_server_info_get has an error
The vnc_server_info_get will allocate the VncServerInfo
struct and then call vnc_init_basic_info_from_server_addr
to populate the basic fields. If this returns an error
though, the qapi_free_VncServerInfo call will then crash
because the VncServerInfo struct instance was not properly
NULL-initialized and thus contains random stack garbage.

66668d197f vnc-tight: fix regression with libxenstore
commit 095497ff added thread local storage for the color counting
palette. Unfortunately, a VncPalette is about 7kB on a x86_64 system.
This memory is reserved from the stack of every thread and it
exhausted the stack space of a libxenstore thread.

Fix this by allocating memory only for the VNC encoding thread.

2e6a64cb8d input-linux: better capability checks, merge input_linux_event_{mouse, keyboard}
Improve capability checks (count keys and buttons), store results.

Merge the input_linux_event_mouse and input_linux_event_keyboard
functions into one, dispatch into input_linux_handle_mouse and
input_linux_handle_keyboard depending on device capabilities.

Allow calling both handle functions, so we can handle mice which
also send key events, by routing those key events to the keyboard.

ea69744988 ui: avoid crash if vnc client disconnects with writes pending
The vnc_client_read() function is called from the vnc_client_io()
event handler callback when there is incoming data to process.
If it detects that the client has disconnected, then it will
trigger cleanup and free'ing of the VncState client struct at
a safe time.

Unfortunately, the vnc_client_io() event handler will also call
vnc_client_write() to handle any outgoing data writes. So if
vnc_client_io() was invoked with both G_IO_IN and G_IO_OUT
events set, and the client disconnects, we may try to write to
a client which has just been freed.

0c426e4534 vnc: Add support for color map
Our current VNC code does not handle color maps (aka non-true-color) at all
and aborts if a client requests them. There are 2 major issues with this:

 1) A VNC viewer on an 8-bit X11 system may request color maps
 2) RealVNC _always_ starts requesting color maps, then moves on to full color

In order to support these 2 use cases, let's just create a fake color map
that covers exactly our normal true color 8 bit color space. That way we don't
lose anything over a client that wants true color.

56f289f383 ui: sdl2: Release grab before opening console window
sdl 2.0.4 currently has a bug which causes our UI shortcuts to fire
rapidly in succession:

  https://bugzilla.libsdl.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3287

It's a toss up whether ctrl+alt+f or ctrl+alt+2 will fire an
odd or even number of times, thus determining whether the action
succeeds or fails.

Opening monitor/serial windows is doubly broken, since it will often
lock the UI trying to grab the pointer:

  0x000055555597eed0 in sdl2_poll_events (scon=0x55555876f928) at ui/sdl2.c:593

We can work around that hang by ungrabbing the pointer before launching
a new window. This roughly matches what our sdl1 code does

ca58b45fbe ui/virtio-gpu: add and use qemu_create_displaysurface_pixman
Add a the new qemu_create_displaysurface_pixman function, to create
a DisplaySurface backed by an existing pixman image. In that case
there is no need to create a new pixman image pointing to the same
backing storage. We can just use the existing image directly.

This does not only simplify things a bit, but most importantly it
gets the reference counting right, so the backing storage for the
pixman image wouldn't be released underneath us.

Use new function in virtio-gpu, where using it actually fixes
use-after-free crashes.

569a93cbbe spice: Disallow use of gl + TCP port
Currently, virgl support has to go through a local unix socket, trying
to connect to a VM using -spice gl through spice://localhost:5900 will
only result in a black screen.
This commit errors out when the user tries to start a VM with both GL
support and a port/tls-port set.
This would fit better in spice-server, but currently QEMU does not call
into spice-server when parsing 'gl' on its command line, so we have to
do this check in QEMU instead.

0e066b2cc5 input-linux: switch over to -object
This patches makes input-linux use -object instead of a new command line
switch. So, instead of the switch ...

    -input-linux /dev/input/event$nr

... you must create an object this way:

    -object input-linux,id=$name,evdev=/dev/input/event$nr

Bonus is that you can hot-add and hot-remove them via monitor now.
