Put bcache inside "namespace gdb"
This avoids a conflict with a system "struct bcache" on Solaris (see e.g. https://www.isi.edu/nsnam/archive/ns-users/webarch/2001/msg05393.html) Note that the Solaris conflict for now only surfaces with --enable-targets=all (which the build bot doesn't use). gdb/ChangeLog: 2019-12-06 Christian Biesinger <cbiesinger@google.com> * bcache.c: Put in namespace gdb. * bcache.h: Likewise. * gdbtypes.c (check_types_worklist): Update. (types_deeply_equal): Update. * macrotab.c (struct macro_table) <bcache>: Update. (new_macro_table): Update. * macrotab.h (struct bcache): Put this forward declaration inside namespace gdb. (new_macro_table): Update. * objfiles.h (struct objfile_per_bfd_storage) <filename_cache>: Update. <macro_cache>: Update. * psymtab.h: (psymtab_storage) <psymbol_cache>: Update. C++-ify bcache
This somewhat C++-ifies bcache. It replaces bcache_xmalloc and bcache_xfree with constructors; changes some functions into methods; and changes various structures to include a bcache directly (as opposed to a pointer to a bcache). Tested by the buildbot. gdb/ChangeLog 2019-03-07 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * symmisc.c (print_symbol_bcache_statistics): Update. (print_objfile_statistics): Update. * symfile.c (allocate_symtab): Update. * stabsread.c: Don't include bcache.h. * psymtab.h (struct psymbol_bcache): Don't declare. Change macro_source_fullname to return a std::string
While working on the previous patch, I noticed that if macro_source_fullname returned a std::string, then the callers would be simplified. This patch implements this idea. gdb/ChangeLog 2019-02-17 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * macrotab.h (macro_source_fullname): Return a std::string. * macrotab.c (macro_include, check_for_redefinition) (macro_undef, macro_lookup_definition, foreach_macro) (foreach_macro_in_scope): Update. Factorize macro definition code in macrotab.c
When first fixing splay tree key leaks in macrotab.c, some duplicated code logic was factorized. The key leaks will be fixed in libiberty, but the code factorization is better kept in any case. gdb/ChangeLog 2019-02-06 Philippe Waroquiers <philippe.waroquiers@skynet.be> * macrotab.c (macro_define_internal): New function that factorizes macro_define_object_internal and macro_define_function code. Update copyright year range in all GDB files.
This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py script. Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid copyright header (gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc). As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header was sent to gcc-patches first. gdb/ChangeLog: Update copyright year range in all GDB files. |

Remove symfile_complaints
The complaint system seems to allow for multiple different complaint topics. However, in practice only symfile_complaints has ever been defined. Seeing that complaints.c dates to 1992, and that no new complaints have been added in the intervening years, I think it is reasonable to admit that complaints are specifically related to debuginfo reading. This patch removes symfile_complaints and updates all the callers. Some of these spots should perhaps be calls to warning instead, but I did not make that change. gdb/ChangeLog 2018-05-23 Tom Tromey <tom@tromey.com> * complaints.c (symfile_complaints): Remove. Use gdb::function_view in iterate_over_symtabs & co
I wanted to pass a lambda to iterate_over_symtabs (see following patch), so I converted it to function_view, and then the rest is cascaded from that. This gets rid of a bunch of single-use callback functions and corresponding manually managed callback capture types (add_partial_datum, search_symbols_data, etc.) in favor of letting the compiler generate them for us by using lambdas with a capture. In a couple cases, it was more natural to convert the existing function callbacks to function objects (i.e., operator(), e.g., decode_compound_collector). gdb/ChangeLog: 2017-02-23 Pedro Alves <palves@redhat.com> * ada-lang.c: Include "common/function-view.h". Add missing sentinel 'char *' casts in concat/reconcat calls
The wildebeest-debian-wheezy-i686 buildslave's build is broken due to: ../../binutils-gdb/gdb/python/python.c: In function void _initialize_python(): ../../binutils-gdb/gdb/python/python.c:1709:36: error: missing sentinel in function call [-Werror=format] Reproduced on Fedora 23 by sticking a few: #undef NULL #define 0 in build/gdb/build-gnulib/{stddef|signal|stdio}.h. Add casts to memory allocation related calls
Most allocation functions (if not all) return a void* pointing to the allocated memory. In C++, we need to add an explicit cast when assigning the result to a pointer to another type (which is the case more often than not). The content of this patch is taken from Pedro's branch, from commit "(mostly) auto-generated patch to insert casts needed for C++". I validated that the changes make sense and manually reflowed the code to make it respect the coding style. I also found multiple places where I could use XNEW/XNEWVEC/XRESIZEVEC/etc. Thanks a lot to whoever did that automated script to insert casts, doing it completely by hand would have taken a ridiculous amount of time. Only files built on x86 with --enable-targets=all are modified. This means that all other -nat.c files are untouched and will have to be dealt with later by using appropiate compilers. Or maybe we can try to build them with a regular g++ just to know where to add casts, I don't know. I built-tested this with --enable-targets=all and reg-tested. Here's the changelog entry, which was not too bad to make despite the size, thanks to David Malcom's script. I fixed some bits by hand, but there might be some wrong parts left (hopefully not). gdb/ChangeLog: * aarch64-linux-tdep.c (aarch64_stap_parse_special_token): Add cast to allocation result assignment. * ada-exp.y (write_object_renaming): Likewise. Replace some xmalloc-family functions with XNEW-family ones
This patch is part of the make-gdb-buildable-in-C++ effort. The idea is to change some calls to the xmalloc family of functions to calls to the equivalents in the XNEW family. This avoids adding an explicit cast, so it keeps the code a bit more readable. Some of them also map relatively well to a C++ equivalent (XNEW (struct foo) -> new foo), so it will be possible to do scripted replacements if needed. I only changed calls that were obviously allocating memory for one or multiple "objects". Allocation of variable sizes (such as strings or buffer handling) will be for later (and won't use XNEW). - xmalloc (sizeof (struct foo)) -> XNEW (struct foo) - xmalloc (num * sizeof (struct foo)) -> XNEWVEC (struct foo, num) - xcalloc (1, sizeof (struct foo)) -> XCNEW (struct foo) - xcalloc (num, sizeof (struct foo)) -> XCNEWVEC (struct foo, num) - xrealloc (p, num * sizeof (struct foo) -> XRESIZEVEC (struct foo, p, num) - obstack_alloc (ob, sizeof (struct foo)) -> XOBNEW (ob, struct foo) - obstack_alloc (ob, num * sizeof (struct foo)) -> XOBNEWVEC (ob, struct foo, num) - alloca (sizeof (struct foo)) -> XALLOCA (struct foo) - alloca (num * sizeof (struct foo)) -> XALLOCAVEC (struct foo, num) Some instances of xmalloc followed by memset to zero the buffer were replaced by XCNEW or XCNEWVEC. I regtested on x86-64, Ubuntu 14.04, but the patch touches many architecture-specific files. For those I'll have to rely on the buildbot or people complaining that I broke their gdb. gdb/ChangeLog: * aarch64-linux-nat.c (aarch64_add_process): Likewise. * aarch64-tdep.c (aarch64_gdbarch_init): Likewise. * ada-exp.y (write_ambiguous_var): Likewise. * ada-lang.c (resolve_subexp): Likewise. C++ keyword cleanliness, mostly auto-generated
This patch renames symbols that happen to have names which are reserved keywords in C++. Most of this was generated with Tromey's cxx-conversion.el script. Some places where later hand massaged a bit, to fix formatting, etc. And this was rebased several times meanwhile, along with re-running the script, so re-running the script from scratch probably does not result in the exact same output. I don't think that matters anyway. gdb/ 2015-02-27 Tom Tromey <tromey@redhat.com> Pedro Alves <palves@redhat.com> Rename symbols whose names are reserved C++ keywords throughout. gdb/gdbserver/ 2015-02-27 Tom Tromey <tromey@redhat.com> Pedro Alves <palves@redhat.com> Rename symbols whose names are reserved C++ keywords throughout. |

Split struct symtab into two: struct symtab and compunit_symtab.
Currently "symtabs" in gdb are stored as a single linked list of struct symtab that contains both symbol symtabs (the blockvectors) and file symtabs (the linetables). This has led to confusion, bugs, and performance issues. This patch is conceptually very simple: split struct symtab into two pieces: one part containing things common across the entire compilation unit, and one part containing things specific to each source file. Example. For the case of a program built out of these files: foo.c foo1.h foo2.h bar.c foo1.h bar.h Today we have a single list of struct symtabs: objfile -> foo.c -> foo1.h -> foo2.h -> bar.c -> foo1.h -> bar.h -> NULL where "->" means the "next" pointer in struct symtab. With this patch, that turns into: objfile -> foo.c(cu) -> bar.c(cu) -> NULL | | v v foo.c bar.c | | v v foo1.h foo1.h | | v v foo2.h bar.h | | v v NULL NULL where "foo.c(cu)" and "bar.c(cu)" are struct compunit_symtab objects, and the files foo.c, etc. are struct symtab objects. So now, for example, when we want to iterate over all blockvectors we can now just iterate over the compunit_symtab list. Plus a lot of the data that was either unused or replicated for each symtab in a compilation unit now lives in struct compunit_symtab. E.g., the objfile pointer, the producer string, etc. I thought of moving "language" out of struct symtab but there is logic to try to compute the language based on previously seen files, and I think that's best left as is for now. With my standard monster benchmark with -readnow (which I can't actually do, but based on my calculations), whereas today the list requires 77MB to store all the struct symtabs, it now only requires 37MB. A modest space savings given the gigabytes needed for all the debug info, etc. Still, it's nice. Plus, whereas today we create a copy of dirname for each source file symtab in a compilation unit, we now only create one for the compunit. So this patch is basically just a data structure reorg, I don't expect significant performance improvements from it. Notes: 1) A followup patch can do a similar split for struct partial_symtab. I have left that until after I get the changes I want in to better utilize .gdb_index (it may affect how we do partial syms). 2) Another followup patch *could* rename struct symtab. The term "symtab" is ambiguous and has been a source of confusion. In this patch I'm leaving it alone, calling it the "historical" name of "filetabs", which is what they are now: just the file-name + line-table. gdb/ChangeLog: Split struct symtab into two: struct symtab and compunit_symtab. * amd64-tdep.c (amd64_skip_xmm_prologue): Fetch producer from compunit. * block.c (blockvector_for_pc_sect): Change "struct symtab *" argument to "struct compunit_symtab *".
