268a13a5a3 Rename common to gdbsupport
This is the next patch in the ongoing series to move gdbsever to the
top level.

This patch just renames the "common" directory. The idea is to do
this move in two parts: first rename the directory (this patch), then
move the directory to the top. This approach makes the patches a bit
more tractable.

I chose the name "gdbsupport" for the directory. However, as this
patch was largely written by sed, we could pick a new name without too
much difficulty.

Tested by the buildbot.

230d2906b9 Rename gdb exception types
This renames the gdb exception types. The old types were only needed
due to the macros in common-exception.h that are now gone.

The intermediate layer of gdb_exception_RETURN_MASK_ALL did not seem
needed, so this patch removes it entirely.

This rewrites gdb's TRY/CATCH to plain C++ try/catch. The patch was
largely written by script, though one change (to a comment in
common-exceptions.h) was reverted by hand.

42a4f53d2b Update copyright year range in all GDB files.
This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py
script.

Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid
copyright header
(gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc).
As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit
leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header
was sent to gcc-patches first.

gdb/ChangeLog:

	Update copyright year range in all GDB files.

6b8edb5101 remote: one struct remote_state per struct remote_target
'struct remote_state' today contains per-connection state, however
there's only a single global instance of that type. In order to
support multiple connections, we must have one such object per
connection.

Thus this patch eliminates the 'remote_state' global in favor of
having a remote_state instance per remote_target instance.

The get_remote_state free function is eliminated as well, by making it
a remote_target method instead.

The patch then fixes the fallout by making all free functions that
refer to get_remote_state() directly or indirectly be methods of
remote_target too.

Likewise, remote-fileio.c and remote-notif.c routines are
parameterized with a remote_target pointer too, so they can call into
the right remote_target instance.

References to the global 'get_remote_state ()->remote_desc' to tell
whether the remote target is open (!= nullptr) must be replaced with
something else:

 - Command implementations use a new get_current_remote_target free
 function.

 - remote_target::open_1 checks the exception type instead.

Finally, remote_target and extended_remote_target are made
heap-allocated targets. As with the earlier core target patches, it
still won't be possible to have more than one remote_target instance
in practice, but this puts us closer.

798a7429f9 Remove some unused variables
This patch removes some unused variables, found with -Wunused. I have
not removed everything reported by -Wunused, because some expressions
such as

  struct type *arg_type = check_typedef (value_type);

in bfin-tdep.c could have an unexpected but important side-effect. I
removed others that I considered more low-risk, such as:

  struct gdbarch *gdbarch = get_objfile_arch (objfile);

I tested building with Python 2/Python 3/no Python, with/without expat,
with/without libipt and with/without babeltrace.

65630365f7 Eliminate catch_exceptions/catch_exceptions_with_msg
This patch gets rid of catch_exceptions / catch_exceptions_with_msg.
The latter is done mostly by getting rid of the three remaining
vestigial libgdb wrapper functions, which are really pointless
nowadays. This results in a good number of simplifications.

(I checked that Insight doesn't use those functions.)

The gdb.mi/mi-pthreads.exp change is necessary because this actually
fixes a bug, IMO -- the patch stops MI's -thread-select causing output
on the CLI stream.

I.e., before:
 -thread-select 123456789
 &"Thread ID 123456789 not known.\n"
 ^error,msg="Thread ID 123456789 not known."
 (gdb)

After:
 -thread-select 123456789
 ^error,msg="Thread ID 123456789 not known."
 (gdb)

bb7c96deb1 gdb/remote-fileio.c: Eliminate custom SIGINT signal handler
... and fix Ctrl-C races.

The current remote-fileio.c SIGINT/EINTR code can lose Ctrl-C --
there's a period where SIG_IGN is installed as signal handler, for
example.

Since:

 - remote.c no longer installs a custom SIGINT handler;

 - The current remote-fileio.c SIGINT handler is basically the same as
   the default SIGINT handler (event-top.c:handle_sigint), in
   principle, except that instead of setting the quit flag, it sets a
   separate flag.

I think we should be able to completely remove the remote-fileio.c
SIGINT handler, and centralize on the quit flag, thus fixing the
Ctrl-C race.

03d73f1fd9 Wake up interruptible_select in remote_fileio ctrl-c handler
As reported in PR 19998, after type ctrl-c, GDB hang there and does
not send interrupt. It causes a fail in gdb.base/interrupt.exp.
All targets support remote fileio should be affected.

When we type ctrc-c, SIGINT is handled by remote_fileio_sig_set,
as shown below,

 #0  remote_fileio_sig_set (sigint_func=0x4495d0 <remote_fileio_ctrl_c_signal_handler(int)>) at /home/yao/SourceCode/gnu/gdb/git/gdb/remote-fileio.c:325

    timeout=timeout@entry=0x0) at /home/yao/SourceCode/gnu/gdb/git/gdb/event-top.c:1017
 #5  0x000000000061ab20 in stdio_file_read (file=<optimised out>, buf=0x12d02e0 "\n\022-\001", length_buf=16383)

we don't set quit_serial_event,

  do
    {
      res = gdb_select (n, readfds, writefds, exceptfds, timeout);
    }
  while (res == -1 && errno == EINTR);

  if (res == 1 && FD_ISSET (fd, readfds))
    {
      errno = EINTR;
      return -1;
    }
  return res;

we can't go out of the loop above, and that is why GDB can't send
interrupt.

Recently, we stop throwing exception from SIGINT handler
(remote_fileio_ctrl_c_signal_handler)
https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2016-03/msg00372.html, which
is correct, because gdb_select is interruptible. However, in the
same patch series, we add interruptible_select later as a wrapper
to gdb_select, https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2016-03/msg00375.html
and it is not interruptible (because of the loop in it) unless
select/poll-able file descriptors are marked.

This fix in this patch is to call quit_serial_event_set, so that we can
go out of the loop above, return -1 and set errno to EINTR.

	PR remote/19998
	* remote-fileio.c (remote_fileio_ctrl_c_signal_handler): Call

acd5494dd8 Stop remote-fileio.c from throwing from SIGINT handler
This code installs a custom signal handler that throws a quit
exception if remote_fio_no_longjmp is not set.

AFAICS, the only real reason for this might have been to unblock the
ui_file_read call, in remote_fileio_func_read. But ever since:

  2009-11-13  Daniel Jacobowitz  <dan@codesourcery.com>

	* ui-file.c (stdio_file_read): Call gdb_select before read.

at:

  https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2009-11/msg00321.html

that call is interruptible.

This is not only useful for switching to native C++ exceptions, but
AFAICS, also fixes a potential mess up of the remote protocol
connection, since there are target_read_memory calls done while
remote_fio_no_longjmp is clear. If the user presses ctrl-c while GDB
is sending or receiving a packet, we'll stop the communication
immediately, at a point where it isn't safe.

gdbserver doesn't support the File I/O remote protocol extension so I
can't test this.

224c3ddb89 Add casts to memory allocation related calls
Most allocation functions (if not all) return a void* pointing to the
allocated memory. In C++, we need to add an explicit cast when
assigning the result to a pointer to another type (which is the case
more often than not).

The content of this patch is taken from Pedro's branch, from commit
"(mostly) auto-generated patch to insert casts needed for C++". I
validated that the changes make sense and manually reflowed the code to
make it respect the coding style. I also found multiple places where I
could use XNEW/XNEWVEC/XRESIZEVEC/etc.

Thanks a lot to whoever did that automated script to insert casts, doing
it completely by hand would have taken a ridiculous amount of time.

Only files built on x86 with --enable-targets=all are modified. This
means that all other -nat.c files are untouched and will have to be
dealt with later by using appropiate compilers. Or maybe we can try to
build them with a regular g++ just to know where to add casts, I don't
know.

I built-tested this with --enable-targets=all and reg-tested.

Here's the changelog entry, which was not too bad to make despite the
size, thanks to David Malcom's script. I fixed some bits by hand, but
there might be some wrong parts left (hopefully not).

8d7493201c Replace some xmalloc-family functions with XNEW-family ones
This patch is part of the make-gdb-buildable-in-C++ effort. The idea is
to change some calls to the xmalloc family of functions to calls to the
equivalents in the XNEW family. This avoids adding an explicit cast, so
it keeps the code a bit more readable. Some of them also map relatively
well to a C++ equivalent (XNEW (struct foo) -> new foo), so it will be
possible to do scripted replacements if needed.

I only changed calls that were obviously allocating memory for one or
multiple "objects". Allocation of variable sizes (such as strings or
buffer handling) will be for later (and won't use XNEW).

  - xmalloc (sizeof (struct foo)) -> XNEW (struct foo)
  - xmalloc (num * sizeof (struct foo)) -> XNEWVEC (struct foo, num)
  - xcalloc (1, sizeof (struct foo)) -> XCNEW (struct foo)
  - xcalloc (num, sizeof (struct foo)) -> XCNEWVEC (struct foo, num)
  - xrealloc (p, num * sizeof (struct foo) -> XRESIZEVEC (struct foo, p, num)
  - obstack_alloc (ob, sizeof (struct foo)) -> XOBNEW (ob, struct foo)
  - obstack_alloc (ob, num * sizeof (struct foo)) -> XOBNEWVEC (ob, struct foo, num)
  - alloca (sizeof (struct foo)) -> XALLOCA (struct foo)
  - alloca (num * sizeof (struct foo)) -> XALLOCAVEC (struct foo, num)

Some instances of xmalloc followed by memset to zero the buffer were
replaced by XCNEW or XCNEWVEC.

I regtested on x86-64, Ubuntu 14.04, but the patch touches many
architecture-specific files. For those I'll have to rely on the
buildbot or people complaining that I broke their gdb.

438e1e427e Prepare for gnulib update
After the last gnulib import (Dec 2012), gnulib upstream started
replacing mingw's 'struct timeval' with a version with 64-bit time_t,
for POSIX compliance:

 commit f8e84098084b3b53bc6943a5542af1f607ffd477
 Author: Bruno Haible <bruno@clisp.org>
 Date:   Sat Jan 28 18:12:10 2012 +0100
     sys_time: Override 'struct timeval' on some native Windows platforms.

See:

 https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-gnulib/2012-01/msg00372.html

However, that results in conflicts with native Winsock2's 'select':

select()'s argument
	http://sourceforge.net/p/mingw-w64/mailman/message/29610438/

... and libiberty's timeval-utils.h timeval_add/timeval_sub, at the
least.

We don't really need the POSIX compliance, so this patch prepares us
to simply not use gnulib's 'struct timeval' replacement once a more
recent gnulib is imported, thus preserving the current behavior, by
adding a sys/time.h wrapper header that undefs gnulib's replacements,
and including that everywhere instead.

The SIZE -> OSIZE change is necessary because newer gnulib's
sys/time.h also includes windows.h/winsock2.h, which defines a
conflicting SIZE symbol.

Cross build-tested mingw-w64 32-bit and 64-bit.
Regtested on x86_64 Fedora 20.

0a93529c56 Implement remote_bfd_iovec_stat
This commit adds a new packet "vFile:fstat:" to the remote protocol
that can be used by to retrieve information about files that have
been previously opened using vFile:open. vFile:fstat: support is
added to GDB, and remote_bfd_iovec_stat is implemented using it. If
vFile:fstat: is not supported by the remote GDB creates a dummy result
by zeroing the supplied stat structure and setting its st_size field
to INT_MAX. This mimics GDB's previous behaviour, with the exception
that GDB did not previously zero the structure so all other fields
would have been returned unchanged, which is to say very likely
populated with random values from the stack.

c765fdb902 Remove spurious exceptions.h inclusions
defs.h includes utils.h, and utils.h includes exceptions.h.  All GDB
.c files include defs.h as their first line, so no file other than
utils.h needs to include exceptions.h. This commit removes all such
inclusions.

28e7fd6234 Update years in copyright notice for the GDB files.
Two modifications:
  1. The addition of 2013 to the copyright year range for every file;
  2. The use of a single year range, instead of potentially multiple
     year ranges, as approved by the FSF.

d0d0ab1652 * remote-fileio.c (remote_fileio_func_rename): Use Cygwin 1.7
cygwin_conv_path API rather than the deprecated
	cygwin_conv_to_full_posix_path.
	* windows-nat.c:
	(GetModuleFileNameExA): Undefine for Cygwin.
	(GetModuleFileNameExW): Define for Cygwin.
	(get_module_name): Change size of pathbuf to PATH_MAX for Cygwin.
	Call GetModuleFileNameExW and convert path to POSIX using
	cygwin_conv_path.
	(windows_make_so): Always define p. Drop unused variable m.
	Don't use Win32 functions to check file existance, rather use
	access on Cygwin. Fetch system directory using GetSystemDirectoryW.
	Use canonicalize_file_name to get full path.
	(get_image_name): Use wcstombs, rather than WideCharToMultiByte
	to convert Unicode pathname to multibyte on Cygwin. Otherwise,
	use correct target buffer size in call to WideCharToMultiByte.
	(handle_load_dll): Change size of dll_buf to PATH_MAX for Cygwin.
	(windows_pid_to_exec_file): Change size of path to PATH_MAX for Cygwin.
	(windows_create_inferior): Convert all paths and arguments to wchar_t
	and use CreateProcessW on Cygwin.
	(_initialize_windows_nat): Disable DOS-style path warning on Cygwin.
	(bad_GetModuleFileNameExA): Undefine for Cygwin.
	(bad_GetModuleFileNameExW): Define for Cygwin.
	(_initialize_loadable): Load GetModuleFileNameExW into
	dyn_GetModuleFileNameExW on Cygwin. Don't load ANSI function on Cygwin.
