953cff5630 Change gcc_target_options to return std::string
This patch was inspired by a recent review that recommended using
std::string in a new implementation of the gcc_target_options gdbarch
function.  It changes this function to return std::string rather than
an ordinary xmalloc'd string.

I believe this caught a latent memory leak in compile.c:get_args.

Tested on x86-64 Fedora 29.

c7ae7675cf Move arm_apcs_32 extern declaration to header
Instead of having several extern declarations for arm_apcs_32
in a few .c files, declare it in arm-tdep.h. This file is already
included from these .c files.

d105cce5dd Arm: Add read_description read funcs and use in GDB
Switch the Arm target to get target descriptions via arm_read_description
and aarch32_read_description, in the same style as other feature targets.
Add an enum to specify the different types - this will also be of use to
gdbserver in a later patch.

Under the hood return the same existing pre-feature target descriptions.

f0452268d6 Arm: Prefix register sizes with ARM_
Add ARM_ to the front of INT_REGISTER_SIZE, FP_REGISTER_SIZE and
ARM_VFP_REGISTER_SIZE to make it obvious they are for the Arm target.
Move the defines to arch/arm.h

No functionality changes.

e935475cb6 Arm/AArch64: Split DISPLACED_MODIFIED_INSNS name clash
Both targets define DISPLACED_MODIFIED_INSNS, each with different values.
Add ARM_ and AARCH64_ to the start of the name to prevent confusion.

No functionality changes.

4de283e4b5 Revert the header-sorting patch
Andreas Schwab and John Baldwin pointed out some bugs in the header
sorting patch; and I noticed that the output was not correct when
limited to a subset of files (a bug in my script).

So, I'm reverting the patch.  I may try again after fixing the issues
pointed out.

The patch was written by a script.

0f83012ea0 Add linux_get_hwcap
Tidy up calls to read HWCAP (and HWCAP2) by adding common functions,
removing the PPC and AArch64 specific versions.

The only function difference is in aarch64_linux_core_read_description - if
the hwcap read fails it now return a valid description instead of nullptr.

42a4f53d2b Update copyright year range in all GDB files.
This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py
script.

Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid
copyright header
(gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc).
As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit
leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header
was sent to gcc-patches first.

a616bb9450 Split size in regset section iterators
In the existing code, when using the regset section iteration functions, the
size parameter is used in different ways.

With collect, size is used to create the buffer in which to write the regset.
(see linux-tdep.c::linux_collect_regset_section_cb).

With supply, size is used to confirm the existing regset is the correct size.
If REGSET_VARIABLE_SIZE is set then the regset can be bigger than size.
Effectively, size is the minimum possible size of the regset.
(see corelow.c::get_core_register_section).

There are currently no targets with both REGSET_VARIABLE_SIZE and a collect
function.
In SVE, a corefile can contain one of two formats after the header, both of
which are different sizes. However, when writing a core file, we always want
to write out the full bigger size.

To allow support of collects for REGSET_VARIABLE_SIZE we need two sizes.
This is done by adding supply_size and collect_size.

00431a78b2 Use thread_info and inferior pointers more throughout
This is more preparation bits for multi-target support.

In a multi-target scenario, we need to address the case of different
processes/threads running on different targets that happen to have the
same PID/PTID.  E.g., we can have both process 123 in target 1, and
process 123 in target 2, while they're in reality different processes
running on different machines.  Or maybe we've loaded multiple
instances of the same core file.  Etc.

To address this, in my WIP multi-target branch, threads and processes
are uniquely identified by the (process_stratum target_ops *, ptid_t)
and (process_stratum target_ops *, pid) tuples respectively.  I.e.,
each process_stratum instance has its own thread/process number space.

As you can imagine, that requires passing around target_ops * pointers
in a number of functions where we're currently passing only a ptid_t
or an int.  E.g., when we look up a thread_info object by ptid_t in
find_thread_ptid, the ptid_t alone isn't sufficient.

In many cases though, we already have the thread_info or inferior
pointer handy, but we "lose" it somewhere along the call stack, only
to look it up again by ptid_t/pid.  Since thread_info or inferior
objects know their parent target, if we pass around thread_info or
inferior pointers when possible, we avoid having to add extra
target_ops parameters to many functions, and also, we eliminate a
number of by ptid_t/int lookups.

So that's what this patch does.  In a bit more detail:

- Changes a number of functions and methods to take a thread_info or
  inferior pointer instead of a ptid_t or int parameter.

- Changes a number of structure fields from ptid_t/int to inferior or
  thread_info pointers.

- Uses the inferior_thread() function whenever possible instead of
  inferior_ptid.

- Uses thread_info pointers directly when possible instead of the
  is_running/is_stopped etc. routines that require a lookup.

- A number of functions are eliminated along the way, such as:

  int valid_gdb_inferior_id (int num);
  int pid_to_gdb_inferior_id (int pid);
  int gdb_inferior_id_to_pid (int num);
  int in_inferior_list (int pid);

- A few structures and places hold a thread_info pointer across
  inferior execution, so now they take a strong reference to the
  (refcounted) thread_info object to avoid the thread_info pointer
  getting stale.  This is done in enable_thread_stack_temporaries and
  in the infcall.c code.

- Related, there's a spot in infcall.c where using a RAII object to
  handle the refcount would be handy, so a gdb::ref_ptr specialization
  for thread_info is added (thread_info_ref, in gdbthread.h), along
  with a gdb_ref_ptr policy that works for all refcounted_object types
  (in common/refcounted-object.h).

454dafbdf2 Introduce gdb_breakpoint_up
This introduces gdb_breakpoint_up, a unique_ptr typedef that owns a
breakpoint.  It then changes set_momentary_breakpoint to return a
gdb_breakpoint_up and fixes up the fallout.  This then allows the
removal of make_cleanup_delete_breakpoint.

Once breakpoints are fully C++-ified, this typedef can be removed in
favor of a plain std::unique_ptr.

This patches removes get_regcache_arch, and use regache->arch () instead.
The motivation of this change is that I am going to move some basic stuff
into a base class of regcache.  I don't need to update "client" code

cfba98720f Create a displaced_step_closure class hierarchy
displaced_step_closure is a type defined in multiple -tdep.c files.
Trying to xfree it from the common code (infrun.c) is a problem when we
try to poison xfree for non-POD types.  Because there can be multiple of
these types in the same build, this patch makes a hierarchy of classes
with a virtual destructor.  When the common code deletes the object
through a displaced_step_closure pointer, it will invoke the right
destructor.

The amd64 used a last-member array with a variable size.  That doesn't
work with new, so I changed it for an std::vector.  Other architectures
which used a simple byte buffer as a closure now use a shared
buf_displaced_step_closure, a closure type that only contains a
gdb::byte_vector.

Reg-tested on the buildbot.

1841ee5d03 Clean up includes of doublest.h and floatformat.h
As a first small step to getting rid of doublest.h, this patch removes the
include of "floatformat.h" in "doublest.h".  This is actually not needed
for the file itself.  A few source files now need to include "floatformat.h"
directly, since they got it indirectly via "doublest.h" and still need it.

In reviewing which files need it, I found a number of files that include
"floatformat.h" directly without actually needing it at all.  Similarly,
a number of files include "doublest.h" without needing it.  I've also
removed those unnecessary include statements.

f1735a53a6 Rename _const functions to use overloading instead
This renames a few functions -- skip_spaces_const,
skip_to_space_const, get_number_const, extract_arg_const -- to drop
the "_const" suffix and instead rely on overloading.

This makes future const fixes simpler by reducing the number of lines
that must be changed.  I think it is also not any less clear, as all
these functions have the same interface as their non-const versions by
design.  Furthermore there's an example of using an overload in-tree
already, namely check_for_argument.

This patch was largely created using some perl one-liners; then a few
fixes were applied by hand.

6d45d4b42b gdbarch: Remove displaced_step_free_closure
The displaced_step_free_closure gdbarch hook allows architectures to
free data they might have allocated to complete a displaced step.
However, all architectures using that hook use the
simple_displaced_step_free_closure provided in arch-utils.{c,h}, which
does a simple xfree.  We can remove it and do an xfree directly instead
of calling the hook.

93f9a11fbd gdbarch software_single_step returns VEC (CORE_ADDR) *

vector of addresses on which GDB should insert breakpoints, and don't

479fe002f5 Canonicalize more arm linux syscalls

Method syscall_next_pc of struct arm_get_next_pcs_ops has an argument

When I exercise GDBserver software single step, I see the following
error, which has been already handled by GDB properly.

In GDBserver log, we can see, GDBserver tries to single step instruction
on 0xb6e0a6e4, and destination address is 0xffff0fe0,

in my test setting, program is compiled in arm mode, but the glibc
is built in thumb mode, so when we do 'step' to step over syscall
instruction svc for SIGRETURN, GDB should set breakpoint for arm mode
in the program, even though the current program in glibc is in thumb
mode.  Current GDB doesn't consider the case that the mode of program
SIGRETURN goes to can be different from current program mode.

In fact, GDB has taken care of this arm/thumb mode changes already,

e7cf25a8ab [ARM] Remove field syscall_next_pc in struct gdbarch_tdep
Field syscall_next_pc in struct gdbarch_tdep was to calculate the
next pc of syscall instruction.  On linux target, syscall_next_pc
is set to arm_linux_syscall_next_pc, to do linux specific things.
However, after we have struct arm_get_next_pcs_ops, we can do the
same thing in struct arm_get_next_pcs_ops field syscall_next_pc,
so syscall_next_pc in struct gdbarch_tdep is not needed any more.

1b451dda5f [ARM] Make thumb2_breakpoint static again
This patch makes thumb2_breakpoint static.  When writing this patch,
I find the only reason we keep thumb2_breakpoint extern is that it
is used as an argument passed to arm_gdbserver_get_next_pcs.  However,
field arm_thumb2_breakpoint is only used in a null check in
thumb_get_next_pcs_raw, so I wonder why do need to pass thumb2_breakpoint
to arm_gdbserver_get_next_pcs.

thumb2_breakpoint was added by Daniel Jacobowitz in order to support
single-step IT block
https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2010-01/msg00624.html  the logic
there was if we have 32-bit thumb-2 breakpoint defined, we can safely
single-step IT block, otherwise, we can't.  Daniel didn't want to use
16-bit thumb BKPT instruction, because it triggers even on instruction
which should be executed.  Secondly, using 16-bit thumb illegal
instruction on top of 32-bit thumb instruction may break the meaning of
original IT blocks, because the other 16-bit can be regarded as an

Let us back to this patch, GDB/GDBserver can safely single step
IT block if thumb2_breakpoint is defined, but the single step logic
doesn't have to know the thumb-2 breakpoint instruction.  Only
breakpoint insertion mechanism decides to use which breakpoint
instruction.  In the software single step code, instead of pass
thumb2_breakpoint, we can pass a boolean variable
has_thumb2_breakpoint indicate whether the target has thumb-2
breakpoint defined, which is equivalent to the original code.

Regression tested on arm-linux.  No regression.

d9311bfaf5 Support software single step on ARM in GDBServer
This patch teaches GDBServer how to software single step on ARM
linux by sharing code with GDB.

The arm_get_next_pcs function in GDB is now shared with GDBServer.  So
that GDBServer can use the function to return the possible addresses of
the next PC.

A proper shared context was also needed so that we could share the code,
this context is described in the arm_get_next_pcs structure.

Testing :

No regressions, tested on ubuntu 14.04 ARMv7 and x86.
With gdbserver-{native,extended} / { -marm -mthumb }

d0e59a6888 Refactor arm_software_single_step to use regcache
This patch is in preparation for software single step support on ARM in
GDBServer. It refactors arm_*_software_single_step and sub-functions to
use regcache instead of frame to access registers so that the code can be
shared more easily between GDB and GDBServer.

Note also that since the intention is at some point to get rid of frame
completely in that function, memory reads have also been replaced by
read_memory_unsigned_integer rather than get_frame_memory_unsigned.

No regressions, tested on ubuntu 14.04 ARMv7 and x86.
With gdbserver-{native,extended} / { -marm -mthumb }

72aded8673 gdb/linux-record: Fix readdir and getdents handling
getdents buffer size is given in bytes, not dirent entries (which have
variable size anyway).  We don't need size_dirent and size_dirent64 for
this reason.

readdir, on the other hand, needs size of old_linux_dirent, which is
a somewhat different structure.  Accordingly, rename size_dirent
to size_old_dirent.

7571f7f297 gdb/linux-record: Fix sizes of sigaction and sigset_t
The values were mistakenly set to size of glibc's sigset_t (128 bytes)
and sigaction (140 or 152 bytes) instead of the kernel ones.  The kernel
has 4 or 8 byte old_sigset_t, 8 byte sigset_t, 16 or 32 byte old_sigaction,
20 or 32 byte sigaction.

d625f9a988 gdb/linux-record: Fix size_[ug]id values
i386 and arm wrongly set them to 2, when it should be 4.  size_[ug]id is used
by getgroups32 etc syscalls, while size_old_[ug]id is used for getgroups16
and friends.
