8f79c1075e Revert "Remove tests that test __gnu_lto_v1 symbol."
Revert

commit 8c728a9d93
Author: Martin Liska <mliska@suse.cz>
Date: Mon Jul 22 14:23:32 2019 +0200

Remove tests that test __gnu_lto_v1 symbol.

since outputs of these tests are used by later tests. Check the normal
symbol, foo, instead of __gnu_lto_v.*, which GCC stopped emitting after
r273662.

	* testsuite/ld-plugin/lto-3r.d: Restored. Check foo instead

c54f15248e Don't complain undefined weak dynamic reference
When undefined non-weak references in IR objects are optimized out

6fe014bcd3 LTO: Properly handle wrapper symbols in IR
When a wrapper symbol, __wrap_FOO, is defined in IR, its resolution
should be LDPR_PREVAILING_DEF, not PREVAILING_DEF_IRONLY, since LTO
doesn't know that __wrap_FOO provides definition of FOO. And resolution
of FOO should be LDPR_RESOLVED_IR since it is resolved by __wrap_FOO in
IR.

	PR ld/24406
	* ld.texi: Remove LTO warning from --wrap.
	* plugin.c (get_symbols): Update resolution for wrapper and

44ed80923a Use better test for usable compiler in ld testsuite.
The ld testsuite includes numerous tests that depend on being able to
compile and link programs with the C compiler. Some of these tests
use [which $CC] to check for the presence of the compiler before
proceeding with the test, but run_ld_link_exec_tests and run_cc_link_tests
give ERRORs if compilation fails. Also, even if $CC is defined and present,
it may not be usable due to missing libraries, etc.

This patch adds a new procedure check_compiler_available that attempts
to build an empty program and caches the result. Uses of [which $CC]
are replaced with calls to this procedure, and run_ld_link_exec_tests
and run_cc_link_tests now also guard attempts to use $CC.

7dd36a6f1c Prune BFD warnings for unknown GNU properties
When glibc is enabled with the new GNU_PROPERTY_X86_XXX bits:

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/x86-64-abi/-D05GQ3kWrA

BFD will issue an unknown GNU property warning like

df5f2391f7 ld error/warning messages
This patch standardizes messages in ld, to better conform to the GNU
coding standard. Besides issues of capitalization and full-stops,
I've
- Split up help messages for target options, so that adding a new
option does not mean loss of translation for all the others.
- Embedded tabs have been removed, since a user might have tab stops
set at other than 8 char intervals.
- Added missing program name (%P). ld isn't the compiler.
- Put %F and %X first (and removed %X if %F was present). These can
go anywhere, but look silly in the m%Fiddle of a message, and
choosing "%P%F:" in some messages but "%F%P:" in others leads to the
likelihood of duplication in ld.pot. Besides, the colon belongs
  with %P.

231ca75323 Skip the PR 14918 linker test for ARM targets.
I am applying a patch that has been lying around in the Fedora
binutils sources for a while. It skips the PR14918 linker test for
ARM based targets. This test checks that libgcc is not included in a
link of an empty executable. This works for most targets, but on the
ARM the crt1.o startup code calls __libc_csu_init which is in
  /usr/lib/libc_nonshared.a(elf-init.oS). This in turn needs
__aeabi_unwind_cpp_pr0@@GCC_3.5 which is provided by libgcc_s.so.1,
  and so the test fails.

59fa66c538 Handle symbol defined in IR and referenced in DSO
We need to make an IR symbol visible if it is defined in an IR object
and referenced in a dynamic object. When --as-needed is used, since
linker removes the IR symbol reference of the dynamic object if the
dynamic object isn't needed in the first pass, the IR definition isn't
visible to the dynamic object even if the dynamic object becomes needed
in the second pass. Add dynamic_ref_after_ir_def to bfd_link_hash_entry
to track IR symbol which is defined in an IR object and later referenced
in a dynamic object. dynamic_ref_after_ir_def is preserved when restoring
the symbol table for unneeded dynamic object.

2bd7f877af ld: Add additional checking for warnings/errors in testsuite
This commit adds new actions to the run_cc_link_tests mechanism in the
linker testsuite.

Previously this procedure could take a parameter containing a regular
expression that would be matched against warnings from the linker.

After this commit the warnings parameter is removed, instead, the
actions list can contain the actions 'warning', 'error',
'warning_output', or 'error_output'. The action names are chosen to
match the actions already present in the run_dump_test procedure.

These new actions allow for the current warning checking, but also allow
for checking of errors using a regular expression. More interestingly,
the *_output actions allow for the warning/error patterns to be placed
in a separate file.

The small number of tests that make use of the warning parameter have
been updated to the new mechanism. Later commits will make use of the
new features added in this commit.

ld/ChangeLog:

	* testsuite/lib/ld-lib.exp (run_cc_link_tests): Add warning,
error, warning_output, and error_output actions. Remove separate
	warnings parameter.
	* testsuite/ld-elf/shared.exp (build_tests): Updated to use
	'warning' action.
	* testsuite/ld-plugin/lto.exp (lto_link_tests): Likewise.

d981640286 Run more ld tests when not native
Many of the ld tests are not run for cross builds, in some cases
because the test needs to run a newly linked executable, and in others
simply because it was easier to write the test for native only. Even
when a test needs to run, it's good to compile and link to exercise
the linker. So that's what this patch does. I've also rid us of
the old ld_link procedure with all the HOSTING_CRT0 etc. setup. It's
much simpler to just link with $CC.

This does mean that a cross build with cross-compiler installed but
no cross C-library will give lots of failures. If that turns out to
be too annoying, I guess we can write a tcl procedure to detect it and
not run all the extra tests.

ace667e59a ld: Restore file offset after a plugin fails to claim a file
When using the plugin interface to claim an input file the claim method
from (possible) many plugins can be called on an input file. If these
claim methods read content from the input file then the file offset
stored in the underlying file descriptor will change.

As we share a file descriptor between the plugin interface (created with
dup in ld/plugin.c:plugin_object_p) and the input bfd object, then any
changes to the file offset in the file descriptor will effect the bfd
object. Also, as the changes to the file offset did not originate from
calls through the bfd interface, but instead came from the plugin
directly, then the bfd will not be aware that the file offset has
changed. This is a problem as the bfd library caches the file offset.
If the plugin decides not to claim an input file then, currently, we
leave the bfd in a state where the actual file offset is out of sync
with the cached file offset.

This problem came to light after a recent commit
7d0b9ebc1e (Don't include libbfd.h outside
of bfd, part 6) however, I don't believe that commit actual introduces
the bug, it just exposed the existing issue.

This commit solves the problem by backing up and restoring the file
offset for the file descriptor of the input file. The restore is only
done if the plugin does not claim the input file, as it is in this case
that the bfd library might be used again to try and identify the
unclaimed file.

ld/ChangeLog:

	* plugin.c (plugin_call_claim_file): Restore the file offset after
an unsuccessful attempt to claim a file.
	* testplug.c (bytes_to_read_before_claim): New global.
(record_read_length): New function, sets new global
	bytes_to_read_before_claim.
	(parse_option): Handle 'read:<NUMBER>' option.
(onclaim_file): Read file content before checking for claim.
	* testsuite/ld-plugin/plugin-30.d: New file.
	* testsuite/ld-plugin/plugin.exp: Add new test.

ELF linker shouldn't skip the IR object when searching the symbol table

b95a0a3177 Skip an archive element if not added by linker
During archive rescan to resolve symbol references for files added by
LTO, linker add_archive_element callback is called to check if an
archive element should added. After all IR symbols have been claimed,
linker won't claim new IR symbols and shouldn't add the LTO archive
element. This patch updates linker add_archive_element callback to
return FALSE when seeing an LTO archive element during rescan and
changes ELF linker to skip such archive element.
