8df52eeeb0 Detect .eh_frame_hdr earlier for SIZEOF_HEADERS
Current code detects the need for PT_GNU_EH_FRAME using a field set by
_bfd_elf_discard_section_eh_frame_hdr, which is called fairly late in
the linking process.  Use the elf hash table eh_info instead, which is
set up earlier by size_dynamic_sections.

	* elf-bfd.h (struct output_elf_obj_tdata): Delete eh_frame_hdr.
	(elf_eh_frame_hdr): Don't define.
	(_bfd_elf_discard_section_eh_frame_hdr): Update prototype.
	* elf-eh-frame.c (_bfd_elf_discard_section_eh_frame_hdr): Delete
	abfd parameter.  Don't set elf_eh_frame_hdr.
	* elf.c (elf_eh_frame_hdr): New function.
	(get_program_header_size): Adjust elf_eh_frame_hdr call.
	(_bfd_elf_map_sections_to_segments): Likewise.

a2c5833233 Update year range in copyright notice of binutils files
The result of running etc/update-copyright.py --this-year, fixing all
the files whose mode is changed by the script, plus a build with
--enable-maintainer-mode --enable-cgen-maint=yes, then checking
out */po/*.pot which we don't update frequently.

The copy of cgen was with commit d1dd5fcc38ead reverted as that commit
breaks building of bfp opcodes files.

36f61bf2ad PTR_ADD and NPTR_ADD for bfd.h
This defines a couple of macros used to avoid ubsan complaints about
calculations involving NULL pointers.  PTR_ADD should be used in the
case where it is known that the offset is always zero with a NULL
pointer, and you'd like to know if a non-zero offset is ever used.
NPTR_ADD should be rarely used, but is defined for cases where a
non-zero offset is expected and should be ignored if the pointer is
NULL.

e7cbe0c4a4 nios2: Add BFD support for GOT-relative DW_EH_PE_datarel encodings
There's already existing logic to handle this on other targets, so
this patch just makes nios2 use it.

bce7c9d6fb Only give FDE encoding warnings if --eh-frame-hdr was specified.
This bug was observed on nios2-linux-gnu with some C++ programs
linked with -pie or -shared.  The nios2 ABI doesn't include appropriate
relocations in this instance and GCC is also being patched not to pass
--eh-frame-hdr to the linker in those cases.

fd3619828e bfd_section_* macros
This large patch removes the unnecessary bfd parameter from various
bfd section macros and functions.  The bfd is hardly ever used and if
needed for the bfd_set_section_* or bfd_rename_section functions can
be found via section->owner except for the com, und, abs, and ind
std_section special sections.  Those sections shouldn't be modified
anyway.

The patch also removes various bfd_get_section_<field> macros,
replacing their use with bfd_section_<field>, and adds
bfd_set_section_lma.  I've also fixed a minor bug in gas where
compressed section renaming was done directly rather than calling
bfd_rename_section.  This would have broken bfd_get_section_by_name
and similar functions, but that hardly mattered at such a late stage
in gas processing.

4ffd290906 Binutils: Always skip only 1 byte for CIE version 1's return address register.
According to the specification for the CIE entries, when the CIE version is 1 then
the return address register field is always 1 byte.  Readelf does this correctly in
read_cie in dwarf.c but ld does this incorrectly and always tries to read a
skip_leb128.  If the value here has the top bit set then ld will incorrectly read
at least another byte, causing either an assert failure or an incorrect address to
be used in eh_frame.

I'm not sure how to generate a generic test for this as I'd need to write assembly,
and it's a bit hard to trigger. Essentially the relocated value needs to start with
something that & 0x70 != 0x10 while trying to write a personality.

3a67e1a6b4 [aarch64] Add support for pointer authentication B key
Armv8.3-A has another key used in pointer authentication called the
B-key (other than the A-key that is already supported). In order for
stack unwinders to work it is necessary to be able to identify frames
that have been signed with the B-key rather than the A-key and it was
felt that keeping this as an augmentation character in the CIE was the
best bet. The DWARF extensions for ARM therefore propose to add a new
augmentation character 'B' to the CIE augmentation string and the
corresponding cfi directive ".cfi_b_key_frame". I've made the relevant
changes to GAS and LD to add support for B-key unwinding, which required
modifying LD to check for 'B' in the augmentation string, adding the
".cfi_b_key_frame" directive to GAS and adding a "pauth_key" field to
GAS's fde_entry and cie_entry structs.

The pointer authentication instructions will behave as NOPs on
architectures that don't support them, and so a check for the
architecture being assembled for is not necessary since there will be no
behavioural difference between augmentation strings with and without the
'B' character on such architectures.

The machinery to do this was there, but not enabled if the terminator
was the only thing in the section.

0e1862bb40 Add output_type to bfd_link_info
The "shared" field in bfd_link_info is set for both DSO and and PIE.
There are separate fields for executable and relocatable outputs.  This
patch adds an "output_type" field:

enum output_type

  type_dll,
  type_relocatable
};

and a "pic" field to bfd_link_info to replace shared, executable and
relocatable fields so that we can use the "output_type" field to check
for output type and the "pic" field check if output is PIC.  Macros,

and bfd_link_pie, are provided to check for output features.

4de1599bcf ld -r abort in _bfd_elf_write_section_eh_frame
Turning on .eh_frame processing for ld -r resulted in systemtap
tickling a ld bug.  Triggered by the zero terminator not being added
to .eh_frame in a separate file as it usually is (crtend.o), but
instead being present in the last .eh_frame section along with CIEs
and FDEs.  The 4-byte terminator makes the section size check fail
on 64-bit targets.

	size check to account for possible zero terminator.

c2aaac080c Discard zero address range eh_frame FDEs
These are useless because they can't match any address.  In fact,
worse than useless because the .eh_frame_hdr lookup table matching
addresses to FDEs does not contain information about the FDE range.
The table is sorted by address;  Range is inferred by the address
delta from one entry to the next.  So if a zero address range FDE is
followed by a normal non-zero range FDE for the same address,
everything is good.  However, the qsort could just as easily sort the
FDEs in the other order, in which case the normal FDE would
effectively be seen to have a zero range.

With larger binaries on 64-bit systems, or indeed just binaries that
have a large gap between text and data, it is possible for the
.eh_frame_hdr lookup table entry values to overflow a signed 32-bit
relative offset.  It is also a requirement for the glibc FDE lookup
code that only one FDE claim to cover any given address.

4564fb94da Delete redundant struct cie field
cie->output_sec is used to when merging CIEs to ensure that only CIEs
from the same output section are merged.  I noticed an assignment to
this field in _bfd_elf_parse_eh_frame, and thought "That's wrong,
output_section isn't set properly when _bfd_elf_parse_eh_frame is
called from gc-sections code".  It turns out that this assignment is
premature, and in fact a dead store.  find_merged_cie overwrites with
the correct value before the field is ever used.  On looking a little
more it becomes apparent that cie->cie_inf.u.cie.u.sec->output_section
holds the same value, so cie->output_sec is redundant.

	* elf-eh-frame.c (struct cie): Delete "output_sec" field.
	(cie_eq, cie_compute_hash): Use output_section from cie_inf instead.

da44f4e546 Index PowerPC64 linker generated .eh_frame in .eh_frame_hdr
I noticed recently that .eh_frame FDEs generated by the linker for
call stubs and .glink weren't being indexed in .eh_frame_hdr, due to
bfd_elf_discard_info being run before the linker generated .eh_frame
sections were available for parsing.  This patch moves code around in
elf64-ppc.c and ppc64elf.em to avoid that problem.

Another problem fixed here is that --gc-sections parses .eh_frame
early, and the existing machinery allows only one go at parsing the
.eh_frame sections.  That resulted in the linker generated .eh_frame
CIEs not being merged and no .eh_frame_hdr index entries for those
FDEs.  It turns out that all the info from parsing .eh_frame is
attached to the section, so order of parsing isn't important, and
after parsing sec_info_type being set will prevent a section being
parsed again.  At least, when parsing doesn't hit an error.  So there
isn't really any need for "parsed_eh_frame".  "merge_cies" is also
redundant, which means _bfd_elf_{begin,end}_eh_frame_parsing can also
disappear.
