Make fputs_unfiltered use fputs_maybe_filtered
This patch redefines fputs_unfiltered in utils.c, with new behavior to
forward parameters to fputs_maybe_filtered. This makes
fputs_unfiltered identical to fputs_filtered, except filtering is
disabled.
Some callers of fputs_unfiltered have been updated to use ui_file_puts
where they were using other ui_file_* functions anyway for IO.
This fixes the problem I saw with \032\032post-prompt annotation being
flushed to stdout in the wrong order.

Make gdb_flush also flush the wrap buffer
This changes gdb_flush to also flush the internal wrap buffer. A few
places needed to continue using the previous approach, so this also
introduces ui_file_flush for those.

Ensure GDB warnings are styled.
While handling the comments of Tom related to [RFC] Have an option to tell GDB to detect and possibly handle mismatched exec-files. https://sourceware.org/ml/gdb-patches/2019-12/msg00621.html I saw that GDB warnings are produced ignoring the given styles. Rename common to gdbsupport
This is the next patch in the ongoing series to move gdbsever to the top level. This patch just renames the "common" directory. The idea is to do this move in two parts: first rename the directory (this patch), then move the directory to the top. This approach makes the patches a bit more tractable. I chose the name "gdbsupport" for the directory. However, as this patch was largely written by sed, we could pick a new name without too much difficulty. Do not emit style escape sequences to log file
PR gdb/24502 requests that the "set logging" log file not contain style escape sequences emitted by gdb. This seemed like a reasonable request to me, so this patch implements filtering for the log file. This also updates a comment in ui-style.h that I noticed while writing the patch. Change file close behavior for tee_file
Instead of using two bools to decide if the files should close when tee_file is closed, make file one stay open and file two close. This simplifies the use cases for it. Inline the make_logging_output into the calling functions (the logic here looks ugly in order to simplify a later change). Have 'thread|frame apply' style their output.
'thread|frame apply CMD' launches CMD so that CMD output goes to a string_file. This patch ensures that string_file for such CMD output contains style escape sequences that 'thread|frame apply' will later on output on the real terminal, so as to have CMD output properly styled. The idea is to have the class ui_file having overridable methods to indicate that the output to this ui_file should be done using 'terminal' behaviour such as styling. Then these methods are overriden in string_file so that a specially constructed string_file will get output with style escape sequences. After this patch, the output of CMD by thread|frame apply CMD is styled similarly as when CMD is launched directly. Note that string_file (term_out true) could also support wrapping, but this is not done (yet?). Update copyright year range in all GDB files.
This commit applies all changes made after running the gdb/copyright.py script. Note that one file was flagged by the script, due to an invalid copyright header (gdb/unittests/basic_string_view/element_access/char/empty.cc). As the file was copied from GCC's libstdc++-v3 testsuite, this commit leaves this file untouched for the time being; a patch to fix the header was sent to gcc-patches first. gdb/ChangeLog: Update copyright year range in all GDB files. |

Implement write_async_safe for mi_console_file (PR 22299)
Enabling "set debug lin-lwp 1" with the MI interpreter doesn't work.
When the sigchld_handler function wants to print a debug output
("sigchld\n"), it uses ui_file_write_async_safe. This ends up in the
default implementation of ui_file::write_async_safe, which aborts GDB.
This patch implements the write_async_safe method for mi_console_file.
The "normal" MI output is line buffered, which means the output
accumulates in m_buffer until a \n is written, at which point it's
flushed in m_raw. The implementation of write_async_safe provided by
this patch bypasses this buffer and writes directly to m_raw. There are
two reasons for this:
(1) Appending to m_buffer (therefore to an std::string) is probably not
async-safe, as it may allocate memory.
(2) We may have a partial output already in m_buffer, so that would lead
to some nested MI output, not so great.
There is probably still a chance to have bad MI output, if
sigchld_handler is invoked in the middle of mi_console_file's flush, and
the line being flushed is only partially sent to m_raw. The solution
would probably be to block signals during flushing. Since this is only
used for debug output, I don't know if it's worth the effort to do that.
To implement write_async_safe, I needed to use the fputstrn_unfiltered,
which does the necessary escaping (e.g. replace \n with \\n). I started
by adding printchar's callback parameters to fputstrn_unfiltered, to be
able to pass async-safe versions of them. It's not easy to provide an
async-safe version of do_fprintf, but it turns out that we can easily
replace printchar's callbacks with a single do_fputc quite easily. The
async-safe version of do_fputc simply calls the underlying ui_file's
write_async_safe method.

Eliminate make_cleanup_ui_file_delete / make ui_file a class hierarchy
This patch starts from the desire to eliminate
make_cleanup_ui_file_delete, but then goes beyond. It makes ui_file &
friends a real C++ class hierarchy, and switches temporary
ui_file-like objects to stack-based allocation.
- mem_fileopen -> string_file
mem_fileopen is replaced with a new string_file class that is treated
as a value class created on the stack. This alone eliminates most
make_cleanup_ui_file_delete calls, and, simplifies code a whole lot
(diffstat shows around 1k loc dropped.)
string_file's internal buffer is a std::string, thus the "string" in
the name. This simplifies the implementation much, compared to
mem_fileopen, which managed growing its internal buffer manually.
- ui_file_as_string, ui_file_strdup, ui_file_obsavestring all gone
The new string_file class has a string() method that provides direct
writable access to the internal std::string buffer. This replaced
ui_file_as_string, which forced a copy of the same data the stream had
inside. With direct access via a writable reference, we can instead
move the string out of the string_stream, avoiding deep string
copying.
Related, ui_file_xstrdup calls are replaced with xstrdup'ping the
stream's string, and ui_file_obsavestring is replaced by
obstack_copy0.
With all those out of the way, getting rid of the weird ui_file_put
mechanism was possible.
- New ui_file::printf, ui_file::puts, etc. methods
These simplify / clarify client code. I considered splitting
client-code changes, like these, e.g.:

In two steps, with the first step leaving fprintf_unfiltered (etc.)
calls in place, and only afterwards do a pass to change all those to
call stb.printf etc.. I didn't do that split, because (when I tried),
it turned out to be pointless make-work: the first pass would have to
touch the fprintf_unfiltered line anyway, to replace "stb" with
"&stb".
- gdb_fopen replaced with stack-based objects
This avoids the need for cleanups or unique_ptr's. I.e., this:

The TUI's ui_file was serving a dual purpose. It supported being used
as string buffer, and supported being backed by a stdio FILE. The
string buffer part is gone, replaced by using of string_file. The
'FILE *' support is now much simplified, by making the TUI's ui_file
inherit from stdio_file.

Introduce ui_file_as_string
ui_file_as_string is a variant of ui_file_xstrdup that returns a std::string instead of a xmalloc'ed char *. The idea is using the new function to eliminate "make_cleanup (xfree, ...)" cleanups throughout. Make out and error streams be per UI
stderr_fileopen () references stderr directly, which doesn't work when we have a separate UI with its own stderr-like stream. Introduce interruptible_select
We have places where we call a blocking gdb_select expecting that a
Ctrl-C will unblock it. However, if the Ctrl-C is pressed just before
gdb_select, the SIGINT handler runs before gdb_select, and thus
gdb_select won't return.

This is a race classically fixed with either the self-pipe trick, or
by blocking SIGINT and then using pselect instead of select.
Blocking SIGINT most of the time would mean that check_quit_flag (and
thus QUIT) would need to do a syscall every time it is called, which
sounds best avoided, since QUIT is called in many loops. Thus we take
the self-pipe trick route (wrapped in a serial event).
Instead of having all places that need this manually add an extra file
descriptor to the set of gdb_select's watched file descriptors, we
introduce a wrapper, interruptible_select, that does that.
The Windows version of gdb_select actually does not suffer from this,
because mingw-hdep.c:gdb_call_async_signal_handler sets a Windows
event that gdb_select always waits on. So this patch can be seen as
generalization of that technique. We can't remove that extra event
from mingw-hdep.c until we get rid of immediate_quit though.

Add casts to memory allocation related calls
Most allocation functions (if not all) return a void* pointing to the allocated memory. In C++, we need to add an explicit cast when assigning the result to a pointer to another type (which is the case more often than not). The content of this patch is taken from Pedro's branch, from commit "(mostly) auto-generated patch to insert casts needed for C++". I validated that the changes make sense and manually reflowed the code to make it respect the coding style. I also found multiple places where I could use XNEW/XNEWVEC/XRESIZEVEC/etc. Thanks a lot to whoever did that automated script to insert casts, doing it completely by hand would have taken a ridiculous amount of time. Only files built on x86 with --enable-targets=all are modified. This means that all other -nat.c files are untouched and will have to be dealt with later by using appropiate compilers. Or maybe we can try to build them with a regular g++ just to know where to add casts, I don't know. I built-tested this with --enable-targets=all and reg-tested. Replace some xmalloc-family functions with XNEW-family ones
This patch is part of the make-gdb-buildable-in-C++ effort. The idea is to change some calls to the xmalloc family of functions to calls to the equivalents in the XNEW family. This avoids adding an explicit cast, so it keeps the code a bit more readable. Some of them also map relatively well to a C++ equivalent (XNEW (struct foo) -> new foo), so it will be possible to do scripted replacements if needed. I only changed calls that were obviously allocating memory for one or multiple "objects". Allocation of variable sizes (such as strings or buffer handling) will be for later (and won't use XNEW). - xmalloc (sizeof (struct foo)) -> XNEW (struct foo) - xmalloc (num * sizeof (struct foo)) -> XNEWVEC (struct foo, num) - xcalloc (1, sizeof (struct foo)) -> XCNEW (struct foo) - xcalloc (num, sizeof (struct foo)) -> XCNEWVEC (struct foo, num) - xrealloc (p, num * sizeof (struct foo) -> XRESIZEVEC (struct foo, p, num) - obstack_alloc (ob, sizeof (struct foo)) -> XOBNEW (ob, struct foo) - obstack_alloc (ob, num * sizeof (struct foo)) -> XOBNEWVEC (ob, struct foo, num) - alloca (sizeof (struct foo)) -> XALLOCA (struct foo) - alloca (num * sizeof (struct foo)) -> XALLOCAVEC (struct foo, num) Some instances of xmalloc followed by memset to zero the buffer were replaced by XCNEW or XCNEWVEC. Move errno.h to common-defs.h
This commit moves the inclusion of errno.h to common-defs.h and removes all other inclusions. Note that prior to this commit server.h included errno.h protected by "#ifdef HAVE_ERRNO_H". This protection was added with the Windows CE port, which is currently broken.
