In commit 6a53b75932 ("xfrm: check id proto in validate_tmpl()")
I introduced a check for xfrm protocol, but according to Herbert
IPSEC_PROTO_ANY should only be used as a wildcard for lookup, so
it should be removed from validate_tmpl().
And, IPSEC_PROTO_ANY is expected to only match 3 IPSec-specific
protocols, this is why xfrm_state_flush() could still miss
IPPROTO_ROUTING, which leads that those entries are left in
net->xfrm.state_all before exit net. Fix this by replacing
IPSEC_PROTO_ANY with zero.
This patch also extracts the check from validate_tmpl() to
xfrm_id_proto_valid() and uses it in parse_ipsecrequest().
With this, no other protocols should be added into xfrm.

After moving an XFRM interface to another namespace it stays associated
with the original namespace (net in `struct xfrm_if` and the list keyed
with `xfrmi_net_id`), allowing processes in the new namespace to use
SAs/policies that were created in the original namespace. For instance,
this allows a keying daemon in one namespace to establish IPsec SAs for
other namespaces without processes there having access to the keys or IKE
credentials.
This worked fine for outbound traffic, however, for inbound traffic the
lookup for the interfaces and the policies used the incorrect namespace
(the one the XFRM interface was moved to).

xfrm_state_put() moves struct xfrm_state to the GC list
and schedules the GC work to clean it up. On net exit call
path, xfrm_state_flush() is called to clean up and
xfrm_flush_gc() is called to wait for the GC work to complete
before exit.
However, this doesn't work because one of the ->destructor(),
ipcomp_destroy(), schedules the same GC work again inside
the GC work. It is hard to wait for such a nested async
callback. This is also why syzbot still reports the following
warning:

In fact, it is perfectly fine to bypass GC and destroy xfrm_state
synchronously on net exit call path, because it is in process context
and doesn't need a work struct to do any blocking work.
This patch introduces xfrm_state_put_sync() which simply bypasses
GC, and lets its callers to decide whether to use this synchronous
version. On net exit path, xfrm_state_fini() and
xfrm6_tunnel_net_exit() use it. And, as ipcomp_destroy() itself is
blocking, it can use xfrm_state_put_sync() directly too.

previously mark=0 was used if the output mark was unspecified. In

must match the address family of the policy selector.
Syzkaller managed to build a template using MODE_ROUTEOPTIMIZATION,

With very small change to test script we can trigger softlockup due to
bogus assignment of 'p' (policy to be examined) on restart.
Previously the two to-be-merged nodes had same address/prefixlength pair,
so no erase/reinsert was necessary, we only had to append the list from
node a to b.
If prefix lengths are different, the node has to be deleted and re-inserted
into the tree, with the updated prefix length. This was broken; due to
bogus update to 'p' this loops forever.
Add a 'restart' label and use that instead.
While at it, don't perform the unneeded reinserts of the policies that

"newpos" has wrong scope. It must be NULL on each iteration of the loop.
Otherwise, when policy is to be inserted at the start, we would instead
insert at point found by the previous loop-iteration instead.
Also, we need to unlink the policy before we reinsert it to the new node,
else we can get next-points-to-self loops.
Because policies are only ordered by priority it is irrelevant which policy
is "more recent" except when two policies have same priority.
(the more recent one is placed after the older one).
In these cases, we can use the ->pos id number to know which one is the
'older': the higher the id, the more recent the policy.
So we only need to unlink all policies from the node that is about to be
removed, and insert them to the replacement node.

An xfrm hash rebuild has to reset the inexact policy list before the
policies get re-inserted: A change of hash thresholds will result in
policies to get moved from inexact tree to the policy hash table.
If the thresholds are increased again later, they get moved from hash
table to inexact tree.
We must unlink all policies from the inexact tree before re-insertion.
Otherwise 'migrate' may find policies that are in main hash table a
second time, when it searches the inexact lists.
Furthermore, re-insertion without deletion can cause elements ->next to
point back to itself, causing soft lockups or double-frees.

Hash rebuild will re-set all the inexact entries, then re-insert them.
Lookups that can occur in parallel will therefore not find any policies.
This was safe when lookups were still guarded by rwlock.
After rcu-ification, lookups check the hash_generation seqcount to detect
when a hash resize takes place. Hash rebuild missed the needed increment.
Hash resizes and hash rebuilds cannot occur in parallel (both acquire
hash_resize_mutex), so just increment xfrm_hash_generation, like resize.

secpath_set is a wrapper for secpath_dup that will not perform
an allocation if the secpath attached to the skb has a reference count
of one, i.e., it doesn't need to be COW'ed.
Also, secpath_dup doesn't attach the secpath to the skb, it leaves
this to the caller.
Use secpath_set in places that immediately assign the return value to
skb.
This allows to remove skb->sp without touching these spots again.
secpath_dup can eventually be removed in followup patch.

skb_dst_force() might clear the dst_entry attached to the skb.

Fix it by checking skb_dst(skb) for NULL after skb_dst_force()

This adds the fourth and final search class, containing policies
where both saddr and daddr have prefix lengths (i.e., not wildcards).
Inexact policies now end up in one of the following four search classes:
1. "Any:Any" list, containing policies where both saddr and daddr are
wildcards or have very coarse prefixes, e.g. 10.0.0.0/8 and the like.
2. "saddr:any" list, containing policies with a fixed saddr/prefixlen,
but without destination restrictions.
These lists are stored in rbtree nodes; each node contains those
policies matching saddr/prefixlen.
3. "Any:daddr" list. Similar to 2), except for policies where only the
destinations are specified.
4. "saddr:daddr" lists, containing only those policies that
match the given source/destination network.
The root of the saddr/daddr nodes gets stored in the nodes of the
'daddr' tree.
This diagram illustrates the list classes, and their
placement in the lookup hierarchy:
xfrm_pol_inexact_bin = hash(dir,type,family,if_id);
|
+---- root_d: sorted by daddr:prefix
| |
| xfrm_pol_inexact_node
| |
| +- root: sorted by saddr/prefix

lookup for an inexact policy returns pointers to the four relevant list
classes, after which each of the lists needs to be searched for the policy
with the higher priority.

sizeable portion of these have disjunct saddr/daddr addresses.

Switch packet-path lookups for inexact policies to rhashtable.
In this initial version, we now no longer need to search policies with
non-matching address family and type.
Next patch will add the if_id as well so lookups from the xfrm interface
driver only need to search inexact policies for that device.
Future patches will augment the hlist in each rhash bucket with a tree
and pre-sort policies according to daddr/prefix.
A single rhashtable is used. In order to avoid a full rhashtable walk on
netns exit, the bins get placed on a pernet list, i.e. we add almost no
cost for network namespaces that had no xfrm policies.
The inexact lists are kept in place, and policies are added to both the
per-rhash-inexact list and a pernet one.
The latter is needed for the control plane to handle migrate -- these
requests do not consider the if_id, so if we'd remove the inexact_list
now we would have to search all hash buckets and then figure
out which matching policy candidate is the most recent one -- this appears
a bit harder than just keeping the 'old' inexact list for this purpose.

currently policy_hash_bysel() returns the hash bucket list
(for exact policies), or the inexact list (when policy uses a prefix).
Searching this inexact list is slow, so it might be better to pre-sort
inexact lists into a tree or another data structure for faster
searching.
However, due to 'any' policies, that need to be searched in any case,
doing so will require that 'inexact' policies need to be handled
specially to decide the best search strategy. So change hash_bysel()
and return NULL if the policy can't be handled via the policy hash
table.
Right now, we simply use the inexact list when this happens, but
future patch can then implement a different strategy.

currently all non-socket policies are either hashed in the dst table,
or placed on the 'inexact list'. When flushing, we first walk the
table, then the (per-direction) inexact lists.
When we try and get rid of the inexact lists to having "n" inexact
lists (e.g. per-af inexact lists, or sorted into a tree), this walk
would become more complicated.
Simplify this: walk the 'all' list and skip socket policies during

Based on the original work from Arnd Bergmann.
When XFRM_ALGO is not enabled, the new ixgbe IPsec code produces a
link error:
drivers/net/ethernet/intel/ixgbe/ixgbe_ipsec.o: In function `ixgbe_ipsec_vf_add_sa':
ixgbe_ipsec.c:(.text+0x1266): undefined reference to `xfrm_aead_get_byname'
Simply selecting XFRM_ALGO from here causes circular dependencies, so
to fix it, we probably want this slightly more complex solution that is
similar to what other drivers with XFRM offload do:
A separate Kconfig symbol now controls whether we include the IPsec
offload code. To keep the old behavior, this is left as 'default y'. The
dependency in XFRM_OFFLOAD still causes a circular dependency but is
not actually needed because this symbol is not user visible, so removing
that dependency on top makes it all work.

In some environments it is common that many hosts share the same lower half
of their IPv6 addresses (in particular ::1). As __xfrm6_addr_hash() and
__xfrm6_daddr_saddr_hash() calculate the hash only from the lower halves,
as much as 1/3 of the hosts ends up in one hashtable chain which harms the

If the "offload" attribute is used to create an IPsec SA
and the .xdo_dev_state_add() fails, the SA creation fails.
However, if the "offload" attribute is used on a device that
doesn't offer it, the attribute is quietly ignored and the SA
is created without an offload.
Along the same line of that second case, it would be good to
have a way for the device to refuse to offload an SA without
failing the whole SA creation. This patch adds that feature
by allowing the driver to return -EOPNOTSUPP as a signal that
the SA may be fine, it just can't be offloaded.
This allows the user a little more flexibility in requesting
offloads and not needing to know every detail at all times about
each specific NIC when trying to create SAs.

1) Extend the output_mark to also support the input direction
and masking the mark values before applying to the skb.
2) Add a new lookup key for the upcomming xfrm interfaces.
3) Extend the xfrm lookups to match xfrm interface IDs.
4) Add virtual xfrm interfaces. The purpose of these interfaces
is to overcome the design limitations that the existing
VTI devices have.
The main limitations that we see with the current VTI are the
following:
VTI interfaces are L3 tunnels with configurable endpoints.
For xfrm, the tunnel endpoint are already determined by the SA.
So the VTI tunnel endpoints must be either the same as on the
SA or wildcards. In case VTI tunnel endpoints are same as on
the SA, we get a one to one correlation between the SA and
the tunnel. So each SA needs its own tunnel interface.
On the other hand, we can have only one VTI tunnel with
wildcard src/dst tunnel endpoints in the system because the
lookup is based on the tunnel endpoints. The existing tunnel
lookup won't work with multiple tunnels with wildcard
tunnel endpoints. Some usecases require more than on
VTI tunnel of this type, for example if somebody has multiple
namespaces and every namespace requires such a VTI.
VTI needs separate interfaces for IPv4 and IPv6 tunnels.
So when routing to a VTI, we have to know to which address
family this traffic class is going to be encapsulated.
This is a lmitation because it makes routing more complex
and it is not always possible to know what happens behind the
VTI, e.g. when the VTI is move to some namespace.
VTI works just with tunnel mode SAs. We need generic interfaces
that ensures transfomation, regardless of the xfrm mode and
the encapsulated address family.
VTI is configured with a combination GRE keys and xfrm marks.
With this we have to deal with some extra cases in the generic
tunnel lookup because the GRE keys on the VTI are actually
not GRE keys, the GRE keys were just reused for something else.
All extensions to the VTI interfaces would require to add
even more complexity to the generic tunnel lookup.
So to overcome this, we developed xfrm interfaces with the
following design goal:
It should be possible to tunnel IPv4 and IPv6 through the same
interface.
No limitation on xfrm mode (tunnel, transport and beet).
Should be a generic virtual interface that ensures IPsec
transformation, no need to know what happens behind the
interface.
Interfaces should be configured with a new key that must match a
new policy/SA lookup key.
The lookup logic should stay in the xfrm codebase, no need to
change or extend generic routing and tunnel lookups.
Should be possible to use IPsec hardware offloads of the underlying
interface.

In order to remove performance impact of having the extra u32 in every
single flowi, this change removes the flowi_xfrm struct, prefering to
take the if_id as a method parameter where needed.
In the inbound direction, if_id is only needed during the
__xfrm_check_policy() function, and the if_id can be determined at that
point based on the skb. As such, xfrmi_decode_session() is only called
with the skb in __xfrm_check_policy().
In the outbound direction, the only place where if_id is needed is the
xfrm_lookup() call in xfrmi_xmit2(). With this change, the if_id is
directly passed into the xfrm_lookup_with_ifid() call. All existing
callers can still call xfrm_lookup(), which uses a default if_id of 0.
This change does not change any behavior of XFRMIs except for improving
overall system performance via flowi size reduction.

The offload_handle should be an opaque data cookie for the driver
to use, much like the data cookie for a timer or alarm callback.
Thus, the XFRM stack should not be checking for non-zero, because
the driver might use that to store an array reference, which could
be zero, or some other zero but meaningful value.
We can remove the checks for non-zero because there are plenty
other attributes also being checked to see if there is an offload
in place for the SA in question.

The lifetime managment uses '__u64' timestamps on the user space
interface, but 'unsigned long' for reading the current time in the kernel
with get_seconds().
While this is probably safe beyond y2038, it will still overflow in 2106,
and the get_seconds() call is deprecated because fo that.
This changes the xfrm time handling to use time64_t consistently, along
with reading the time using the safer ktime_get_real_seconds(). It still
suffers from problems that can happen from a concurrent settimeofday()
call or (to a lesser degree) a leap second update, but since the time
stamps are part of the user API, there is nothing we can do to prevent
that.

Allow UPDSA to change "set mark" to permit
policy separation of packet routing decisions from
SA keying in systems that use mark-based routing.
The set mark, used as a routing and firewall mark
for outbound packets, is made update-able which
allows routing decisions to be handled independently
of keying/SA creation. To maintain consistency with
other optional attributes, the set mark is only
updated if sent with a non-zero value.
The per-SA lock and the xfrm_state_lock are taken in
that order to avoid a deadlock with
xfrm_timer_handler(), which also takes the locks in

Kristian Evensen says:
In a project I am involved in, we are running ipsec (Strongswan) on
different mt7621-based routers. Each router is configured as an
initiator and has around ~30 tunnels to different responders (running
on misc. devices). Before the flow cache was removed (kernel 4.9), we
got a combined throughput of around 70Mbit/s for all tunnels on one
router. However, we recently switched to kernel 4.14 (4.14.48), and
the total throughput is somewhere around 57Mbit/s (best-case). I.e., a
drop of around 20%. Reverting the flow cache removal restores, as
expected, performance levels to that of kernel 4.9.
When pcpu xdst exists, it has to be validated first before it can be
used.
A negative hit thus increases cost vs. no-cache.
As number of tunnels increases, hit rate decreases so this pcpu caching
isn't a viable strategy.
Furthermore, the xdst cache also needs to run with BH off, so when
removing this the bh disable/enable pairs can be removed too.
Kristian tested a 4.14.y backport of this change and reported
increased performance:
In our tests, the throughput reduction has been reduced from around -20%
to -5%. We also see that the overall throughput is independent of the
number of tunnels, while before the throughput was reduced as the number
of tunnels increased.

Fix missing dst_release() when local broadcast or multicast traffic is

For IPv4 this results to dst leak: ip_route_output_flow() allocates

propagated. The dst that was allocated is never released.

struct xfrm_state is rather large (768 bytes here) and therefore wastes
quite a lot of memory as it falls into the kmalloc-1024 slab cache,
leaving 256 bytes of unused memory per XFRM state object -- a net waste
of 25%.
Using a dedicated slab cache for struct xfrm_state reduces the level of
internal fragmentation to a minimum.
On my configuration SLUB chooses to create a slab cache covering 4
pages holding 21 objects, resulting in an average memory waste of ~13
bytes per object -- a net waste of only 1.6%.
In my tests this led to memory savings of roughly 2.3MB for 10k XFRM
states.

Fun set of conflict resolutions here...
For the mac80211 stuff, these were fortunately just parallel
adds. Trivially resolved.
In drivers/net/phy/phy.c we had a bug fix in 'net' that moved the
function phy_disable_interrupts() earlier in the file, whilst in
'net-next' the phy_error() call from this function was removed.
In net/ipv4/xfrm4_policy.c, David Ahern's changes to remove the
'rt_table_id' member of rtable collided with a bug fix in 'net' that
added a new struct member "rt_mtu_locked" which needs to be copied
over here.
The mlxsw driver conflict consisted of net-next separating
the span code and definitions into separate files, whilst
a 'net' bug fix made some changes to that moved code.
The mlx5 infiniband conflict resolution was quite non-trivial,
the RDMA tree's merge commit was used as a guide here, and
here are their notes:
====================
Due to bug fixes found by the syzkaller bot and taken into the for-rc
branch after development for the 4.17 merge window had already started
being taken into the for-next branch, there were fairly non-trivial
merge issues that would need to be resolved between the for-rc branch
and the for-next branch. This merge resolves those conflicts and
provides a unified base upon which ongoing development for 4.17 can
be based.
Conflicts:
drivers/infiniband/hw/mlx5/main.c - Commit 42cea83f95
(IB/mlx5: Fix cleanup order on unload) added to for-rc and
commit b5ca15ad7e (IB/mlx5: Add proper representors support)
add as part of the devel cycle both needed to modify the
init/de-init functions used by mlx5. To support the new
representors, the new functions added by the cleanup patch
needed to be made non-static, and the init/de-init list
added by the representors patch needed to be modified to
match the init/de-init list changes made by the cleanup
patch.
Updates:
drivers/infiniband/hw/mlx5/mlx5_ib.h - Update function
prototypes added by representors patch to reflect new function
names as changed by cleanup patch
drivers/infiniband/hw/mlx5/ib_rep.c - Update init/de-init
stage list to match new order from cleanup patch

arp_net_ops just addr/removes /proc entry.
devinet_ops allocates and frees duplicate of init_net tables
and (un)registers sysctl entries.
fib_net_ops allocates and frees pernet tables, creates/destroys
netlink socket and (un)initializes /proc entries. Foreign
pernet_operations do not touch them.
ip_rt_proc_ops only modifies pernet /proc entries.
xfrm_net_ops creates/destroys /proc entries, allocates/frees
pernet statistics, hashes and tables, and (un)initializes
sysctl files. These are not touched by foreigh pernet_operations
xfrm4_net_ops allocates/frees private pernet memory, and

sysctl_route_ops creates/destroys sysctls.
rt_genid_ops only initializes fields of just allocated net.
ipv4_inetpeer_ops allocated/frees net private memory.
igmp_net_ops just creates/destroys /proc files and socket,

tcp_sk_ops seems to be safe, because tcp_sk_init() does not
depend on any other pernet_operations modifications. Iteration
over hash table in inet_twsk_purge() is made under RCU lock,
and it's safe to iterate the table this way. Removing from
the table happen from inet_twsk_deschedule_put(), but this
function is safe without any extern locks, as it's synchronized
inside itself. There are many examples, it's used in different
context. So, it's safe to leave tcp_sk_exit_batch() unlocked.
tcp_net_metrics_ops is synchronized on tcp_metrics_lock and safe.
udplite4_net_ops only creates/destroys pernet /proc file.
icmp_sk_ops creates percpu sockets, not touched by foreign

ipmr_net_ops creates/destroys pernet fib tables, (un)registers

af_inet_ops just sets up default parameters of newly created net.
ipv4_mib_ops creates and destroys pernet percpu statistics.
raw_net_ops, tcp4_net_ops, udp4_net_ops, ping_v4_net_ops

Currently we allow state updates to competely replace the contents
of x->encap. This is bad because on the user side ESP only sets up
header lengths depending on encap_type once when the state is first
created. This could result in the header lengths getting out of
sync with the actual state configuration.
In practice key managers will never do a state update to change the
encapsulation type. Only the port numbers need to be changed as the
peer NAT entry is updated.
Therefore this patch adds a check in xfrm_state_update to forbid

This adds a check for the required add and delete functions up front
at registration time to be sure both are defined.
Since both the features check and the registration check are looking
at the same things, break out the check for both to call.
Lastly, for some reason the feature check was setting xfrmdev_ops to
NULL if the NETIF_F_HW_ESP bit was missing, which would probably
surprise the driver later if the driver turned its NETIF_F_HW_ESP bit
back on. We shouldn't be messing with the driver's callback list, so
we stop doing that with this patch.

in our kernel when processing transport-mode packets at levels

The easiest one is with DNAT, but an even worse one is where

Unfortunately our policy template validation is not strict enough.

While building ipsec bundles, blocks of xfrm dsts are linked together
using dst->next from bottom to the top.
The only thing this is used for is initializing the pmtu values of the
xfrm stack, and for updating the mtu values at xfrm_bundle_ok() time.
The bundle pmtu entries must be processed in this order so that pmtu
values lower in the stack of routes can propagate up to the higher
ones.
Avoid using dst->next by simply maintaining an array of dst pointers
as we already do for the xfrm_state objects when building the bundle.

Stated another way, if one were to follow the xfrm_dst->child chain of
the bundle, the final non-NULL pointer would be the path and point to
either an ipv4 or an ipv6 route.
This is largely used to make sure that PMTU events propagate down to

XFRM bundle child chains look like this:
xdst1 --> xdst2 --> xdst3 --> path_dst
All of xdstN are xfrm_dst objects and xdst->u.dst.xfrm is non-NULL.
The final child pointer in the chain, here called 'path_dst', is some
other kind of route such as an ipv4 or ipv6 one.
The xfrm output path pops routes, one at a time, via the child
pointer, until we hit one which has a dst->xfrm pointer which
is NULL.
We can easily preserve the above mechanisms with child sitting
only in the xfrm_dst structure. All children in the chain
before we break out of the xfrm_output() loop have dst->xfrm
non-NULL and are therefore xfrm_dst objects.
Since we break out of the loop when we find dst->xfrm NULL, we
will not try to dereference 'dst' as if it were an xfrm_dst.

Currently it is possible to add or update socket policies, but
not clear them. Therefore, once a socket policy has been applied,
the socket cannot be used for unencrypted traffic.
This patch allows (privileged) users to clear socket policies by
passing in a NULL pointer and zero length argument to the
{IP,IPV6}_{IPSEC,XFRM}_POLICY setsockopts. This results in both
the incoming and outgoing policies being cleared.
The simple approach taken in this patch cannot clear socket
policies in only one direction. If desired this could be added
in the future, for example by continuing to pass in a length of
zero (which currently is guaranteed to return EMSGSIZE) and
making the policy be a pointer to an integer that contains one
of the XFRM_POLICY_{IN,OUT} enum values.
An alternative would have been to interpret the length as a
signed integer and use XFRM_POLICY_IN (i.e., 0) to clear the
input policy and -XFRM_POLICY_OUT (i.e., -1) to clear the output
policy.

Since 4.14-rc1, the selinux-testsuite has been encountering sporadic
failures during testing of labeled IPSEC. git bisect pointed to
commit ec30d ("xfrm: add xdst pcpu cache").
The xdst pcpu cache is only checking that the policies are the same,
but does not validate that the policy, state, and flow match with respect
to security context labeling.
As a result, the wrong SA could be used and the receiver could end up
performing permission checking and providing SO_PEERSEC or SCM_SECURITY
values for the wrong security context.
This fix makes it so that we always do the template resolution, and
then checks that the found states match those in the pcpu bundle.
This has the disadvantage of doing a bit more work (lookup in state hash
table) if we can reuse the xdst entry (we only avoid xdst alloc/free)
but we don't add a lot of extra work in case we can't reuse.
xfrm_pol_dead() check is removed, reasoning is that
xfrm_tmpl_resolve does all needed checks.

Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
- file had no licensing information it it.
- file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
- file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
lines of source
- File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 11139
and resulted in the first patch in this series.
If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH
Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930
and resulted in the second patch in this series.
- if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one
of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if
any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in
it (per prior point). Results summary:

and that resulted in the third patch in this series.
- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot
checks in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect
the correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial
patch version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch
license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the
applied SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270
GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17
LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15
GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14
((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5
LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4
LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1
and that resulted in the third patch in this series.

If a socket has a valid dst cache, then xfrm_lookup_route will get
skipped. However, the cache is not invalidated when applying policy to a
socket (i.e. IPV6_XFRM_POLICY). The result is that new policies are
sometimes ignored on those sockets. (Note: This was broken for IPv4 and
IPv6 at different times.)
This can be demonstrated like so,
1. Create UDP socket.
2. connect() the socket.
3. Apply an outbound XFRM policy to the socket. (setsockopt)
4. send() data on the socket.
Packets will continue to be sent in the clear instead of matching an
xfrm or returning a no-match error (EAGAIN). This affects calls to
send() and not sendto().
Invalidating the sk_dst_cache is necessary to correctly apply xfrm
policies. Since we do this in xfrm_user_policy(), the sk_lock was
already acquired in either do_ip_setsockopt() or do_ipv6_setsockopt(),
and we may call __sk_dst_reset().
Performance impact should be negligible, since this code is only called
when changing xfrm policy, and only affects the socket in question.

On systems that use mark-based routing it may be necessary for
routing lookups to use marks in order for packets to be routed
correctly. An example of such a system is Android, which uses
socket marks to route packets via different networks.
Currently, routing lookups in tunnel mode always use a mark of
zero, making routing incorrect on such systems.
This patch adds a new output_mark element to the xfrm state and
a corresponding XFRMA_OUTPUT_MARK netlink attribute. The output
mark differs from the existing xfrm mark in two ways:
1. The xfrm mark is used to match xfrm policies and states, while
the xfrm output mark is used to set the mark (and influence
the routing) of the packets emitted by those states.
2. The existing mark is constrained to be a subset of the bits of
the originating socket or transformed packet, but the output
mark is arbitrary and depends only on the state.
The use of a separate mark provides additional flexibility. For
example:
- A packet subject to two transforms (e.g., transport mode inside
tunnel mode) can have two different output marks applied to it,
one for the transport mode SA and one for the tunnel mode SA.
- On a system where socket marks determine routing, the packets
emitted by an IPsec tunnel can be routed based on a mark that
is determined by the tunnel, not by the marks of the
unencrypted packets.
- Support for setting the output marks can be introduced without
breaking any existing setups that employ both mark-based
routing and xfrm tunnel mode. Simply changing the code to use
the xfrm mark for routing output packets could xfrm mark could
change behaviour in a way that breaks these setups.
If the output mark is unspecified or set to zero, the mark is not
set or changed.

If the SKB is then forwarded to a device which supports crypto-

retain last used xfrm_dst in a pcpu cache.
On next request, reuse this dst if the policies are the same.
The cache will not help with strict RR workloads as there is no hit.
The cache packet-path part is reasonably small, the notifier part is
needed so we do not add long hangs when a device is dismantled but some
pcpu xdst still holds a reference, there are also calls to the flush
operation when userspace deletes SAs so modules can be removed
(there is no hit.
We need to run the dst_release on the correct cpu to avoid races with
packet path. This is done by adding a work_struct for each cpu and then
doing the actual test/release on each affected cpu via schedule_work_on().

DST_NOCACHE flag check has been removed from dst_release() and
dst_hold_safe() in a previous patch because all the dst are now ref
counted properly and can be released based on refcnt only.
Looking at the rest of the DST_NOCACHE use, all of them can now be
removed or replaced with other checks.
So this patch gets rid of all the DST_NOCACHE usage and remove this flag
completely.

Now that all the components have been changed to release dst based on
refcnt only and not depend on dst gc anymore, we can remove the
temporary flag DST_NOGC.
Note that we also need to remove the DST_NOCACHE check in dst_release()

During the creation of xfrm_dst bundle, always take ref count when
allocating the dst. This way, xfrm_bundle_create() will form a linked
list of dst with dst->child pointing to a ref counted dst child. And
the returned dst pointer is also ref counted. This makes the link from
the flow cache to this dst now ref counted properly.
As the dst is always ref counted properly, we can safely mark
DST_NOGC flag so dst_release() will release dst based on refcnt only.
And dst gc is no longer needed and all dst_free() and its related
function calls should be replaced with dst_release() or
dst_release_immediate().
The special handling logic for dst->child in dst_destroy() can be
replaced with a simple dst_release_immediate() call on the child to
release the whole list linked by dst->child pointer.
Previously used DST_NOHASH flag is not needed anymore as well. The
reason that DST_NOHASH is used in the existing code is mainly to prevent
the dst inserted in the fib tree to be wrongly destroyed during the
deletion of the xfrm_dst bundle. So in the existing code, DST_NOHASH
flag is marked in all the dst children except the one which is in the
fib tree.
However, with this patch series to remove dst gc logic and release dst
only based on ref count, it is safe to release all the children from a
xfrm_dst bundle as long as the dst children are all ref counted
properly which is already the case in the existing code.
So, this patch removes the use of DST_NOHASH flag.

When CONFIG_XFRM_SUB_POLICY=y, xfrm_dst stores a copy of the flowi for
that dst. Unfortunately, the code that allocates and fills this copy
doesn't care about what type of flowi (flowi, flowi4, flowi6) gets
passed. In multiple code paths (from raw_sendmsg, from TCP when
replying to a FIN, in vxlan, geneve, and gre), the flowi that gets
passed to xfrm is actually an on-stack flowi4, so we end up reading
stuff from the stack past the end of the flowi4 struct.

These is no reason not to do it after flushing policies, especially
considering that 'garbage collection deferred' is only triggered

Both esp4 and esp6 used to assume that the SKB payload is encrypted
and therefore the inner_network and inner_transport offsets are
not relevant.
When doing crypto offload in the NIC, this is no longer the case
and the NIC driver needs these offsets so it can do TX TCP checksum
offloading.

For that we add a function that checks the offloading

requirement of a fallback before it calls the IPsec

xfrm_user: validate XFRM_MSG_NEWAE incoming ESN size harder
xfrm_user: validate XFRM_MSG_NEWAE XFRMA_REPLAY_ESN_VAL replay_window
Kees Cook has pointed out that xfrm_replay_state_esn_len() is subject to
wrapping issues. To ensure we are correctly ensuring that the two ESN
structures are the same size compare both the overall size as reported
by xfrm_replay_state_esn_len() and the internal length are the same.

When a new xfrm state is created during an XFRM_MSG_NEWSA call we
validate the user supplied replay_esn to ensure that the size is valid
and to ensure that the replay_window size is within the allocated
buffer. However later it is possible to update this replay_esn via a
XFRM_MSG_NEWAE call. There we again validate the size of the supplied
buffer matches the existing state and if so inject the contents. We do
not at this point check that the replay_window is within the allocated
memory. This leads to out-of-bounds reads and writes triggered by
netlink packets. This leads to memory corruption and the potential for
priviledge escalation.
We already attempt to validate the incoming replay information in
xfrm_new_ae() via xfrm_replay_verify_len(). This confirms that the user
is not trying to change the size of the replay state buffer which
includes the replay_esn. It however does not check the replay_window
remains within that buffer. Add validation of the contained
replay_window.

This patch adds GRO ifrastructure and callbacks for ESP on
ipv4 and ipv6.
In case the GRO layer detects an ESP packet, the
esp{4,6}_gro_receive() function does a xfrm state lookup

The packet will be decapsulated and reinjected it into layer 2.

Dan reports following smatch warning:

649 struct xfrm_state_afinfo *afinfo = xfrm_state_afinfo_get_rcu(family);
651 if (afinfo)
...
658 }
659 afinfo->init_temprop(x, tmpl, daddr, saddr);
I am resonably sure afinfo cannot be NULL here.
xfrm_state4.c and state6.c are both part of ipv4/ipv6 (depends on
CONFIG_XFRM, a boolean) but even if ipv6 is a module state6.c can't
be removed (ipv6 lacks module_exit so it cannot be removed).
The only callers for xfrm6_fini that leads to state backend unregister
are error unwinding paths that can be called during ipv6 init function.
So after ipv6 module is loaded successfully the state backend cannot go
away anymore.
The family value from policy lookup path is taken from dst_entry, so
that should always be AF_INET(6).
However, since this silences the warning and avoids readers of this
code wondering about possible null deref it seems preferrable to
be defensive and just add the old check back.

Once flow cache gets removed the mtu initialisation happens for every skb
that gets an xfrm attached, so this lock starts to show up in perf.
It is not obvious why this lock is required -- the caller holds
reference on the state struct, type->destructor is only called from the
state gc worker (all state structs on gc list must have refcount 0).
xfrm_init_state already has been called (else private data accessed
by type->get_mtu() would not be set up).
So just remove the lock -- the race on the state (DEAD?) doesn't
matter (could change right after dropping the lock too).

Couple conflicts resolved here:
1) In the MACB driver, a bug fix to properly initialize the
RX tail pointer properly overlapped with some changes
to support variable sized rings.
2) In XGBE we had a "CONFIG_PM" --> "CONFIG_PM_SLEEP" fix
overlapping with a reorganization of the driver to support
ACPI, OF, as well as PCI variants of the chip.
3) In 'net' we had several probe error path bug fixes to the
stmmac driver, meanwhile a lot of this code was cleaned up
and reorganized in 'net-next'.
4) The cls_flower classifier obtained a helper function in
'net-next' called __fl_delete() and this overlapped with
Daniel Borkamann's bug fix to use RCU for object destruction
in 'net'. It also overlapped with Jiri's change to guard
the rhashtable_remove_fast() call with a check against
tc_skip_sw().
5) In mlx4, a revert bug fix in 'net' overlapped with some
unrelated changes in 'net-next'.
6) In geneve, a stale header pointer after pskb_expand_head()
bug fix in 'net' overlapped with a large reorganization of
the same code in 'net-next'. Since the 'net-next' code no
longer had the bug in question, there was nothing to do
other than to simply take the 'net-next' hunks.

Once xfrm_policy_lookup_bytype doesn't grab xfrm_policy_lock anymore its
possible for a hash resize to occur in parallel.
Use sequence counter to block lookup in case a resize is in

Since commit 56f047305d
("xfrm: add rcu grace period in xfrm_policy_destroy()") xfrm policy
objects are already free'd via rcu.
In order to make more places lockless (i.e. use rcu_read_lock instead of
grabbing read-side of policy rwlock) we only need to:
- use rcu_assign_pointer to store address of new hash table backend memory
- add rcu barrier so that freeing of old memory is delayed (expansion
and free happens from system workqueue, so synchronize_rcu is fine)
- use rcu_dereference to fetch current address of the hash table.

Whenever thresholds are changed the hash tables are rebuilt. This is
done by enumerating all policies and hashing and inserting them into
the right table according to the thresholds and direction.
Because socket policies are also contained in net->xfrm.policy_all but
no hash tables are defined for their direction (dir + XFRM_POLICY_MAX)
this causes a NULL or invalid pointer dereference after returning from
policy_hash_bysel() if the rebuild is done while any socket policies
are installed.
Since the rebuild after changing thresholds is scheduled this crash
could even occur if the userland sets thresholds seemingly before
installing any socket policies.

- Encrypted packet in receive path from netdevice is queued
- Encrypted packet queued for decryption (asynchronous)
- Netdevice brought down and freed
- Packet is decrypted and returned through callback in esp_input_done
- Packet is queued again for process in network stack using netif_rx
Since the device appears to have been freed, the dereference of

Remove the dst_entries_init/destroy calls for xfrm4 and xfrm6 dst_ops
templates; their dst_entries counters will never be used. Move the
xfrm dst_ops initialization from the common xfrm/xfrm_policy.c to
xfrm4/xfrm4_policy.c and xfrm6/xfrm6_policy.c, and call dst_entries_init
and dst_entries_destroy for each net namespace.
The ipv4 and ipv6 xfrms each create dst_ops template, and perform
dst_entries_init on the templates. The template values are copied to each
net namespace's xfrm.xfrm*_dst_ops. The problem there is the dst_ops
pcpuc_entries field is a percpu counter and cannot be used correctly by
simply copying it to another object.
The result of this is a very subtle bug; changes to the dst entries
counter from one net namespace may sometimes get applied to a different
net namespace dst entries counter. This is because of how the percpu
counter works; it has a main count field as well as a pointer to the
percpu variables. Each net namespace maintains its own main count
variable, but all point to one set of percpu variables. When any net
namespace happens to change one of the percpu variables to outside its
small batch range, its count is moved to the net namespace's main count
variable. So with multiple net namespaces operating concurrently, the
dst_ops entries counter can stray from the actual value that it should
be; if counts are consistently moved from one net namespace to another
(which my testing showed is likely), then one net namespace winds up
with a negative dst_ops count while another winds up with a continually
increasing count, eventually reaching its gc_thresh limit, which causes
all new traffic on the net namespace to fail with -ENOBUFS.

1) The flow cache is limited by the flow cache limit which
depends on the number of cpus and the xfrm garbage collector
threshold which is independent of the number of cpus. This
leads to the fact that on systems with more than 16 cpus
we hit the xfrm garbage collector limit and refuse new
allocations, so new flows are dropped. On systems with 16
or less cpus, we hit the flowcache limit. In this case, we
shrink the flow cache instead of refusing new flows.
We increase the xfrm garbage collector threshold to INT_MAX
to get the same behaviour, independent of the number of cpus.
2) Fix some unaligned accesses on sparc systems.
From Sowmini Varadhan.
3) Fix some header checks in _decode_session4. We may call
pskb_may_pull with a negative value converted to unsigened
int from pskb_may_pull. This can lead to incorrect policy
lookups. We fix this by a check of the data pointer position
before we call pskb_may_pull.
4) Reload skb header pointers after calling pskb_may_pull
in _decode_session4 as this may change the pointers into
the packet.

On sparc, deleting established SAs (e.g., by restarting ipsec)
results in unaligned access messages via xfrm_del_sa ->
km_state_notify -> xfrm_send_state_notify().
Even though struct xfrm_usersa_info is aligned on 8-byte boundaries,
netlink attributes are fundamentally only 4 byte aligned, and this
cannot be changed for nla_data() that is passed up to userspace.
As a result, the put_unaligned() macro needs to be used to
set up potentially unaligned fields such as the xfrm_stats in
