SPI NOR chips are made of pages, which gathered in small groups make
(erase) sectors. Sectors, gathered together, make banks inside the
chip. Until now, there was only one bank per device supported, but we
are about to introduce support for new chips featuring several banks (up
to 4 so far) where different operations may happen in parallel.
Let's allow describing these additional bank parameters, and let's do
this independently of any other value (like the number of sectors) with
an absolute value.
By default we consider that all chips have a single bank.

struct class should never be modified in a sysfs callback as there is
nothing in the structure to modify, and frankly, the structure is almost
never used in a sysfs callback, so mark it as constant to allow struct
class to be moved to read-only memory.
While we are touching all class sysfs callbacks also mark the attribute
as constant as it can not be modified. The bonding code still uses this
structure so it can not be removed from the function callbacks.

According to the ONFI specification, bit 0 of 'SDR timing mode support'
(bytes 129-130) "shall be 1". That means the NAND supports at least
timing mode 0.
NAND chip Hynix H27U4G8F2GDA-BI (at least) is reading a 0 on this field
which makes nand_choose_best_sdr_timings() return with error and the
probe function to eventually fail.
Given that sdr_timing_modes bit 0 must be 1 by specification, force
it in case the NAND reports it is not set. This is a safe assumption
because the mode 0 is the minimum (safer) set of timings that the
NAND can work with.

The continuous read support added recently makes nandsim
unhappy. Indeed, all the supported commands should be re-encoded into
internal commands, so of course there is currently no support for the
commands and patterns needed for continuous reads to work.
I tried to add support for them but nandsim (which is more a tool to
develop/debug upper layers rather than the raw NAND core) suffers from a
big limitation: it's internal parser needs to know what exact operation
is happening when the address cycles are performed. The research is then
sequential from the start up to the address cycles, but does not check
what's coming next even though the information is available. This is a
limitation which is related to the old API used by the core which kind
of forced the controllers to guess what operation was being performed
rather early. Today the core uses a more transparent API called
->exec_op() which no longer requires controller drivers to do any more
guessing, but despite being updated to ->exec_op(), nandsim is still a
bit constrained on this regard and thus cannot handle sequential page
reads because the start sequence beginning is identical to a regular
page read.
If the internal algorithm is updated some day, it should be possible to
make it support sequential page reads by adding something like:
/* Large page devices continuous read page start */
{OPT_LARGEPAGE, {STATE_CMD_READ0, STATE_ADDR_PAGE, STATE_CMD_READSTART,
STATE_CMD_READCACHESEQ | ACTION_CPY, STATE_DATAOUT,
STATE_READY}},
/* Large page devices continuous read page continue */
{OPT_LARGEPAGE, {STATE_CMD_READCACHESEQ | ACTION_CPY_NEXT, STATE_DATAOUT,
STATE_READY}},
/* Large page devices continuous read page end */
{OPT_LARGEPAGE, {STATE_CMD_READCACHEEND | ACTION_CPY_NEXT, STATE_DATAOUT,
STATE_READY}},
For now, we just return -EOPNOTSUPP when the core asks controller
drivers if they support the feature in order to prevent any further use
of these opcodes.
Note: This is a hack, ->exec_op() is not supposed to check against the
COMMAND opcodes unless _really_ needed.

Supporting multi-cs in spi drivers would require the chip_select & cs_gpiod
members of struct spi_device to be an array. But changing the type of these
members to array would break the spi driver functionality. To make the
transition smoother introduced four new APIs to get/set the
spi->chip_select & spi->cs_gpiod and replaced all spi->chip_select and
spi->cs_gpiod references with get or set API calls.
While adding multi-cs support in further patches the chip_select & cs_gpiod
members of the spi_device structure would be converted to arrays & the
"idx" parameter of the APIs would be used as array index i.e.,
spi->chip_select[idx] & spi->cs_gpiod[idx] respectively.

Since commit 8b41fc4454 ("kbuild: create modules.builtin without
Makefile.modbuiltin or tristate.conf"), MODULE_LICENSE declarations
are used to identify modules. As a consequence, uses of the macro
in non-modules will cause modprobe to misidentify their containing
object file as a module when it is not (false positives), and modprobe
might succeed rather than failing with a suitable error message.
So remove it in the files in this commit, none of which can be built as

Commit c048b60d39 ("mtd: core: provide unique name for nvmem device")
tries to give the nvmem device a unique name, but fails badly if the mtd
device doesn't have a "struct device" associated with it, i.e. if
CONFIG_MTD_PARTITIONED_MASTER is not set. This will result in the name
"(null)-user-otp", which is not unique. It seems the best we can do is
to use the compatible name together with a unique identifier added by

This structure must be zeroed, because it's field 'hw->core' is used as
'parent' in 'clk_core_fill_parent_index()', but it will be uninitialized.
This happens, because when this struct is not zeroed, pointer 'hw' is
"initialized" by garbage, which is valid pointer, but points to some
garbage. So 'hw' will be dereferenced, but 'core' contains some random
data which will be interpreted as a pointer. The following backtrace is

During the processing of the bgt, if the sync_erase() return -EBUSY
or some other error code in __erase_worker(),schedule_erase() called
again lead to the down_read(ubi->work_sem) hold twice and may get
block by down_write(ubi->work_sem) in ubi_update_fastmap(),
which cause deadlock.
ubi bgt other task
do_work
down_read(&ubi->work_sem) ubi_update_fastmap
erase_worker # Blocked by down_read
__erase_worker down_write(&ubi->work_sem)
schedule_erase
schedule_ubi_work
down_read(&ubi->work_sem)
Fix this by changing input parameter @nested of the schedule_erase() to
'true' to avoid recursively acquiring the down_read(&ubi->work_sem).
Also, fix the incorrect comment about @nested parameter of the
schedule_erase() because when down_write(ubi->work_sem) is held, the
@nested is also need be true.

As usual, there are lots of minor driver changes across SoC platforms
from NXP, Amlogic, AMD Zynq, Mediatek, Qualcomm, Apple and Samsung.
These usually add support for additional chip variations in existing
drivers, but also add features or bugfixes.
The SCMI firmware subsystem gains a unified raw userspace interface
through debugfs, which can be used for validation purposes.
Newly added drivers include:
- New power management drivers for StarFive JH7110, Allwinner D1 and
Renesas RZ/V2M
- A driver for Qualcomm battery and power supply status
- A SoC device driver for identifying Nuvoton WPCM450 chips
- A regulator coupler driver for Mediatek MT81xxv

Here is the large set of driver core changes for 6.3-rc1.
There's a lot of changes this development cycle, most of the work falls
into two different categories:
- fw_devlink fixes and updates. This has gone through numerous review
cycles and lots of review and testing by lots of different devices.
Hopefully all should be good now, and Saravana will be keeping a
watch for any potential regression on odd embedded systems.
- driver core changes to work to make struct bus_type able to be moved
into read-only memory (i.e. const) The recent work with Rust has
pointed out a number of areas in the driver core where we are
passing around and working with structures that really do not have
to be dynamic at all, and they should be able to be read-only making
things safer overall. This is the contuation of that work (started
last release with kobject changes) in moving struct bus_type to be
constant. We didn't quite make it for this release, but the
remaining patches will be finished up for the release after this
one, but the groundwork has been laid for this effort.
Other than that we have in here:
- debugfs memory leak fixes in some subsystems
- error path cleanups and fixes for some never-able-to-be-hit
codepaths.
- cacheinfo rework and fixes
- Other tiny fixes, full details are in the shortlog
All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported
problems.

SPI NOR changes:
* small fixes on core and spansion driver.
This is a follow-up to the deprecation of most of the old-style board
files that was merged in linux-6.0, removing them for good.
This branch is almost exclusively dead code removal based on those
annotations. Some device driver removals went through separate subsystem
trees, but the majority is in the same branch, in order to better handle
dependencies between the patches and avoid breaking bisection.
Unfortunately that leads to merge conflicts against other changes in the
subsystem trees, but they should all be trivial to resolve by removing
the files.
See commit 7d0d3fa733 ("Merge tag 'arm-boardfiles-6.0' of
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/soc/soc") for the
description of which machines were marked unused and are now removed. The
only removals that got postponed are Terastation WXL (mv78xx0) and
Jornada720 (StrongARM1100), which turned out to still have potential
users.

This is a follow-up to the deprecation of most of the old-style board
files that was merged in linux-6.0, removing them for good.
This branch is almost exclusively dead code removal based on those
annotations. Some device driver removals went through separate
subsystem trees, but the majority is in the same branch, in order to
better handle dependencies between the patches and avoid breaking
bisection.
Unfortunately that leads to merge conflicts against other changes in
the subsystem trees, but they should all be trivial to resolve by
removing the files.
See commit 7d0d3fa733 ("Merge tag 'arm-boardfiles-6.0' of

description of which machines were marked unused and are now removed.

The most noticeable change is that in sysfs, previously ubi devices

would be correctly attached to their parent MTD device, e.g.

These "nvmem-cells" platform devices never get probed because there's no
platform driver for it and it's never used anywhere else. So it's a
waste of memory. These devices also cause fw_devlink to block nvmem
consumers of "nvmem-cells" partition from probing because the supplier
device never probes.
So stop creating platform devices for nvmem-cells partitions to avoid
wasting memory and to avoid blocking probing of consumers.

Add a mechanism to handle the case in which partitions are present as
direct child of the nand controller node and #size-cells is set to <0>.
This could happen if the nand-controller node in the DTS is supposed to
have #size-cells set to 0, but for some historical reason/bug it was set
to 1 in the past, and the firmware (e.g. U-Boot) is adding the partition
as direct children of the nand-controller defaulting to #size-cells
being to 1.
This prevents a real boot failure on colibri-imx7 that happened during v6.1

When using the hardware ECC engine, the OOB data is made available in
the NFC_REG_USER_DATA registers, as one 32-bit word per ECC step. Any
additional bytes are only accessible through raw reads and software

was hit:
UBSAN: shift-out-of-bounds in drivers/mtd/spi-nor/core.c:2237:24
shift exponent 4294967295 is too large for 32-bit type 'int'
The setting of the size_{shift, mask} and of the opcode are unnecessary
when the erase size is zero, as throughout the code just the erase size
is considered to determine whether an erase type is supported or not.
Setting the opcode to 0xFF was wrong too as nobody guarantees that 0xFF
is an unused opcode. Thus when masking out an erase type, just set the
erase size to zero. This will fix the shift-out-of-bounds.

After disabling fastmap(ubi->fm_disabled = 1), fastmap won't be updated,
fm_anchor PEB is missed being scheduled for erasing. Besides, fm_anchor
PEB may have smallest erase count, it doesn't participate wear-leveling.
The difference of erase count between fm_anchor PEB and other PEBs will
be larger and larger later on.
In which situation fastmap can be disabled? Initially, we have an UBI

User's permission access is determined by capabilities.
Of course, the root user is not restricted from reading
these files.
When reading a debugfs file, the process is as follows:
ksys_read()
vfs_read()
if (file->f_op->read)
file->f_op->read()
full_proxy_open()
real_fops->read()
dfs_file_read() -- Read method of debugfs file.
else if (file->f_op->read_iter)
new_sync_read()
else
ret = -EINVAL -- Return -EINVAL if no read method.
This indicates that the debugfs file can be read as long as the read
method of the debugfs file is registered. This patch adds the read
permission display for file that support the read method.

The UBI driver can use the IOCTL to disable the fastmap after the
mainline 669d204469 ("ubi: fastmap: Add fastmap control support
for 'UBI_IOCATT' ioctl"). To destroy the fastmap on a old image,
we need to reattach the device in user space.
However, if the UBI driver build in kernel and the UBI volume is
the root partition, the UBI device cannot be reattached in user
space. To disable fastmap in this case, the UBI must provide the
kernel cmdline parameters to disable fastmap during attach.
This patch add 'enable_fm' as 5th module init parameter of mtd=xx to
control fastmap enable or not. When the value is 0, fastmap will not
create and existed fastmap will destroyed for the given ubi device.
Default value is 0.
To enable or disable fastmap during module loading, fm_autoconvert

It is possible that current chip->ecc.engine_type value does not match to
configured HW value (if HW ECC checking and generating is enabled or not).
This can happen with old U-Boot bootloader version which either does not
initialize NAND (and let it in some default unusable state) or initialize
NAND with different parameters than what is specified in kernel DTS file.
So if kernel chose to use some chip->ecc.engine_type settings (e.g. from
DTS file) then do not depend on bootloader HW configuration and configures
HW ECC settings according to chip->ecc.engine_type value.
BR_DECC must be set to BR_DECC_CHK_GEN when HW is doing ECC (both
generating and checking), or to BR_DECC_OFF when HW is not doing ECC.
This change fixes usage of SW ECC support in case bootloader explicitly
enabled HW ECC support and kernel DTS file has specified to use SW ECC.
(Of course this works only in case when NAND is not a boot device and both
bootloader and kernel are loaded from different location, e.g. FLASH NOR.)

The mx35lf1ge4ab_get_eccsr() function uses an SPI DMA operation to
read the eccsr, hence the buffer should not be on stack. Since commit
380583227c ("spi: spi-mem: Add extra sanity checks on the op param")
the kernel emmits a warning and blocks such operations.
Use the scratch buffer to get eccsr instead of trying to directly read
into a stack-allocated variable.

Add support for sequential cache reads for controllers using the generic
core helpers for their fast read/write helpers.
Sequential reads may reduce the overhead when accessing physically
continuous data by loading in cache the next page while the previous
page gets sent out on the NAND bus.
The ONFI specification provides the following additional commands to
handle sequential cached reads:
* 0x31 - READ CACHE SEQUENTIAL:
Requires the NAND chip to load the next page into cache while keeping
the current cache available for host reads.
* 0x3F - READ CACHE END:
Tells the NAND chip this is the end of the sequential cache read, the
current cache shall remain accessible for the host but no more
internal cache loading operation is required.
On the bus, a multi page read operation is currently handled like this:
00 -- ADDR1 -- 30 -- WAIT_RDY (tR+tRR) -- DATA1_IN
00 -- ADDR2 -- 30 -- WAIT_RDY (tR+tRR) -- DATA2_IN
00 -- ADDR3 -- 30 -- WAIT_RDY (tR+tRR) -- DATA3_IN
Sequential cached reads may instead be achieved with:
00 -- ADDR1 -- 30 -- WAIT_RDY (tR) -- \
31 -- WAIT_RDY (tRCBSY+tRR) -- DATA1_IN \
31 -- WAIT_RDY (tRCBSY+tRR) -- DATA2_IN \
3F -- WAIT_RDY (tRCBSY+tRR) -- DATA3_IN
Below are the read speed test results with regular reads and
sequential cached reads, on NXP i.MX6 VAR-SOM-SOLO in mapping mode with
a NAND chip characterized with the following timings:
* tR: 20 µs
* tRCBSY: 5 µs
* tRR: 20 ns
and the following geometry:
* device size: 2 MiB
* eraseblock size: 128 kiB
* page size: 2 kiB
============= Normal read @ 33MHz =================
mtd_speedtest: eraseblock read speed is 15633 KiB/s
mtd_speedtest: page read speed is 15515 KiB/s
mtd_speedtest: 2 page read speed is 15398 KiB/s
===================================================
========= Sequential cache read @ 33MHz ===========
mtd_speedtest: eraseblock read speed is 18285 KiB/s
mtd_speedtest: page read speed is 15875 KiB/s
mtd_speedtest: 2 page read speed is 16253 KiB/s
===================================================
We observe an overall speed improvement of about 5% when reading
2 pages, up to 15% when reading an entire block. This is due to the
~14us gain on each additional page read (tR - (tRCBSY + tRR)).

Instead of checking if a pattern is supported each time we need it,
let's create a bitfield that only the core would be allowed to fill at

order to check what operation they should use. This bitfield is supposed
to grow over time.

Up to now the pasemi nand driver only supported a single device
instance. However the check for that was racy because two parallel calls
of pasemi_nand_probe() could pass the check
if (pasemi_nand_mtd)
return -ENODEV;
before any of them assigns a non-NULL value to it.
So rework the driver to make use of per-device driver data.
As an intended side effect the driver can bind more than one device and
also gets rid of the check
if (!pasemi_nand_mtd)
return 0;
in the remove callback that could only ever trigger after the above race
happened.

When MTD or MTD_CFI_GEOMETRY is disabled, the spi-intel driver
fails to build, as it includes the shared CFI header:

62 | #warning No CONFIG_MTD_CFI_Ix selected. No NOR chip support can work.
linux/mtd/spi-nor.h does not actually need to include cfi.h, so
remove the inclusion here to fix the warning. This uncovers a
missing #include in spi-nor/core.c so add that there to
prevent a different build issue.

SFDP_DWORD() so that we can use it for other parameter tables than BFPT.

Pull random number generator updates from Jason Donenfeld:
- Replace prandom_u32_max() and various open-coded variants of it,
there is now a new family of functions that uses fast rejection
sampling to choose properly uniformly random numbers within an
interval:
get_random_u32_below(ceil) - [0, ceil)
get_random_u32_above(floor) - (floor, U32_MAX]
get_random_u32_inclusive(floor, ceil) - [floor, ceil]
Coccinelle was used to convert all current users of
prandom_u32_max(), as well as many open-coded patterns, resulting in
improvements throughout the tree.
I'll have a "late" 6.1-rc1 pull for you that removes the now unused
prandom_u32_max() function, just in case any other trees add a new
use case of it that needs to converted. According to linux-next,
there may be two trivial cases of prandom_u32_max() reintroductions
that are fixable with a 's/.../.../'. So I'll have for you a final
conversion patch doing that alongside the removal patch during the
second week.
This is a treewide change that touches many files throughout.
- More consistent use of get_random_canary().
- Updates to comments, documentation, tests, headers, and
simplification in configuration.
- The arch_get_random*_early() abstraction was only used by arm64 and
wasn't entirely useful, so this has been replaced by code that works
in all relevant contexts.
- The kernel will use and manage random seeds in non-volatile EFI
variables, refreshing a variable with a fresh seed when the RNG is
initialized. The RNG GUID namespace is then hidden from efivarfs to
prevent accidental leakage.
These changes are split into random.c infrastructure code used in the
EFI subsystem, in this pull request, and related support inside of
EFISTUB, in Ard's EFI tree. These are co-dependent for full
functionality, but the order of merging doesn't matter.
- Part of the infrastructure added for the EFI support is also used for
an improvement to the way vsprintf initializes its siphash key,
replacing an sleep loop wart.
- The hardware RNG framework now always calls its correct random.c
input function, add_hwgenerator_randomness(), rather than sometimes
going through helpers better suited for other cases.
- The add_latent_entropy() function has long been called from the fork
handler, but is a no-op when the latent entropy gcc plugin isn't
used, which is fine for the purposes of latent entropy.
But it was missing out on the cycle counter that was also being mixed
in beside the latent entropy variable. So now, if the latent entropy
gcc plugin isn't enabled, add_latent_entropy() will expand to a call
to add_device_randomness(NULL, 0), which adds a cycle counter,
without the absent latent entropy variable.
- The RNG is now reseeded from a delayed worker, rather than on demand
when used. Always running from a worker allows it to make use of the
CPU RNG on platforms like S390x, whose instructions are too slow to
do so from interrupts. It also has the effect of adding in new inputs
more frequently with more regularity, amounting to a long term
transcript of random values. Plus, it helps a bit with the upcoming
vDSO implementation (which isn't yet ready for 6.2).
- The jitter entropy algorithm now tries to execute on many different
CPUs, round-robining, in hopes of hitting even more memory latencies
and other unpredictable effects. It also will mix in a cycle counter
when the entropy timer fires, in addition to being mixed in from the
main loop, to account more explicitly for fluctuations in that timer
firing. And the state it touches is now kept within the same cache
line, so that it's assured that the different execution contexts will
cause latencies.

Since commit 0166dc11be ("of: make CONFIG_OF user selectable"), it
is possible to test-build any driver which depends on OF on any
architecture by explicitly selecting OF. Therefore depending on
COMPILE_TEST as an alternative is no longer needed.
It is actually better to always build such drivers with OF enabled,
so that the test builds are closer to how each driver will actually be
built on its intended target. Building them without OF may not test
much as the compiler will optimize out potentially large parts of the
code. In the worst case, this could even pop false positive warnings.
Dropping COMPILE_TEST here improves the quality of our testing and
avoids wasting time on non-existent issues.

The datasheet of is25wp256 says it supports SFDP. Get rid of the static
initialization of the flash parameters and init them when parsing SFDP.
Testing showed the flash using SPINOR_OP_READ_1_1_4_4B 0x6c,
SPINOR_OP_PP_4B 0x12 and SPINOR_OP_BE_4K_4B 0x21 before enabling SFDP.

When utilizing PARSE_SFDP to initialize the flash parameter, the
deprecated initializing method spi_nor_init_params_deprecated() and the
function spi_nor_manufacturer_init_params() within it will never be
executed, which results in the default_init hook function will also never
be executed.
This is okay for 'D' generation of GD25Q256, because 'D' generation is
implementing the JESD216B standards, it has QER field defined in BFPT,
parsing the SFDP can properly set the quad_enable function. The 'E'
generation also implements the JESD216B standards, and it has the same
status register definitions as 'D' generation, parsing the SFDP to set
the quad_enable function should also work for 'E' generation.
However, the same thing can't apply to 'C' generation. 'C' generation
'GD25Q256C' implements the JESD216 standards, and it doesn't have the
QER field defined in BFPT, since it does have QE bit in status register
1, the quad_enable hook needs to be tweaked to properly set the
quad_enable function, this can be done in post_bfpt fixup hook.

At the moment, we print the JEDEC ID that is stored in our database. The
generic flash support won't have such an entry in our database. To find
out the JEDEC ID later we will have to cache it. There is also another
advantage: If the flash is found in the database, the ID could be
truncated because the ID of the entry is used which can be shorter. Some
flashes still holds valuable information in the bytes after the JEDEC ID

The CN9130 SoC (an ARMADA 8K type) has both a NAND Flash Controller and
a generic local bus controller (Device Bus Controller) that share common
pins.
With a board design that incorporates both a NAND flash and uses
the Device Bus (in our case for an SRAM) accessing the Device Bus device
fails unless the NfArbiterEn bit is set. Setting the bit enables
arbitration between the Device Bus and the NAND flash.
Since there is no obvious downside in enabling this for designs that
don't require arbitration, we always enable it.

Commit dd5c672d7c ("arm64: bcmbca: Merge ARCH_BCM4908 to ARCH_BCMBCA")
removes config ARCH_BCM4908 as config ARCH_BCMBCA has the same intent.
Probably due to concurrent development, commit 002181f5b1 ("mtd: parsers:
add Broadcom's U-Boot parser") introduces 'Broadcom's U-Boot partition
parser' that depends on ARCH_BCM4908, but this use was not visible during
the config refactoring from the commit above. Hence, these two changes
create a reference to a non-existing config symbol.

So far this feature was limited to the top-level "nvmem-cells" node.
There are multiple parsers creating partitions and subpartitions
dynamically. Extend that code to handle them too.
This allows finding partition-* node for every MTD (sub)partition.
Random example:
partitions {
compatible = "brcm,bcm947xx-cfe-partitions";
partition-firmware {
compatible = "brcm,trx";
partition-loader {

With use_codeword_fixup enabled, any return from
mtd_device_parse_register gets overwritten. Aside from the clear bug, this
is also problematic as a parser can EPROBE_DEFER and because this is not
correctly handled, the nand is never rescanned later in the bootup
process.
An example of this problem is when smem requires additional time to be
probed and nandc use qcomsmempart as parser. Parser will return
EPROBE_DEFER but in the current code this ret gets overwritten by
qcom_nand_host_parse_boot_partitions and qcom_nand_host_init_and_register
return 0.
Correctly handle the return code from mtd_device_parse_register so that
any error from this function is not ignored.

Pull more random number generator updates from Jason Donenfeld:
"This time with some large scale treewide cleanups.
The intent of this pull is to clean up the way callers fetch random
integers. The current rules for doing this right are:
- If you want a secure or an insecure random u64, use get_random_u64()
- If you want a secure or an insecure random u32, use get_random_u32()
The old function prandom_u32() has been deprecated for a while
now and is just a wrapper around get_random_u32(). Same for
get_random_int().
- If you want a secure or an insecure random u16, use get_random_u16()
- If you want a secure or an insecure random u8, use get_random_u8()
- If you want secure or insecure random bytes, use get_random_bytes().
The old function prandom_bytes() has been deprecated for a while
now and has long been a wrapper around get_random_bytes()
- If you want a non-uniform random u32, u16, or u8 bounded by a
certain open interval maximum, use prandom_u32_max()
I say "non-uniform", because it doesn't do any rejection sampling
or divisions. Hence, it stays within the prandom_*() namespace, not
the get_random_*() namespace.
I'm currently investigating a "uniform" function for 6.2. We'll see
what comes of that.
By applying these rules uniformly, we get several benefits:
- By using prandom_u32_max() with an upper-bound that the compiler
can prove at compile-time is ≤65536 or ≤256, internally
get_random_u16() or get_random_u8() is used, which wastes fewer
batched random bytes, and hence has higher throughput.
- By using prandom_u32_max() instead of %, when the upper-bound is
not a constant, division is still avoided, because
prandom_u32_max() uses a faster multiplication-based trick instead.
- By using get_random_u16() or get_random_u8() in cases where the
return value is intended to indeed be a u16 or a u8, we waste fewer
batched random bytes, and hence have higher throughput.
This series was originally done by hand while I was on an airplane
without Internet. Later, Kees and I worked on retroactively figuring
out what could be done with Coccinelle and what had to be done
manually, and then we split things up based on that.
So while this touches a lot of files, the actual amount of code that's
hand fiddled is comfortably small"

The prandom_bytes() function has been a deprecated inline wrapper around
get_random_bytes() for several releases now, and compiles down to the
exact same code. Replace the deprecated wrapper with a direct call to
the real function. This was done as a basic find and replace.

Rather than truncate a 32-bit value to a 16-bit value or an 8-bit value,
simply use the get_random_{u8,u16}() functions, which are faster than
wasting the additional bytes from a 32-bit value. This was done by hand,
identifying all of the places where one of the random integer functions
was used in a non-32-bit context.

Rather than incurring a division or requesting too many random bytes for
the given range, use the prandom_u32_max() function, which only takes
the minimum required bytes from the RNG and avoids divisions. This was

- A new driver for Qualcomm LLCC/DDR bandwidth measurement
- New Rockchip rv1126 and rk3588 power domain drivers
- DT binding updates for memory controllers, older Rockchip

- Minor updates to Hisilicon LPC bus, the Allwinner SRAM
driver, the Apple rtkit firmware driver, Tegra firmware
- Minor updates for SoC drivers (Samsung, Mediatek, Renesas,
Tegra, Qualcomm, Broadcom, NXP, ...)
There are also some separate subsystem with downstream maintainers that
merge updates this way:
- Various updates and new drivers in the memory controller
subsystem for Mediatek and Broadcom SoCs
- Small set of changes in preparation to add support for FF-A

MTD subsystem API allows interacting with MTD devices (e.g. reading,
writing, handling bad blocks). So far a random driver could get MTD
device only by its name (get_mtd_device_nm()). This change allows
getting them also by a DT node.
This API is required for drivers handling DT defined MTD partitions in a
specific way (e.g. U-Boot (sub)partition with environment variables).

[1] suggests that fastmap is suitable for large flash devices. Module
parameter 'fm_autoconvert' is a coarse grained switch to enable all
ubi devices to generate fastmap, which may turn on fastmap even for
small flash devices.
This patch imports a new field 'disable_fm' in struct 'ubi_attach_req'
to support following situations by ioctl 'UBI_IOCATT'.
[old functions]
A. Disable 'fm_autoconvert': Disbable fastmap for all ubi devices
B. Enable 'fm_autoconvert': Enable fastmap for all ubi devices
[new function]
C. Enable 'fm_autoconvert', set 'disable_fm' for given device: Don't
create new fastmap and do full scan (existed fastmap will be
destroyed) for the given ubi device.
A simple test case in [2].

EMMC and NAND have the same clock control register named 'SD_EMMC_CLOCK'
which is defined in EMMC port internally. bit0~5 of 'SD_EMMC_CLOCK' is
the divider and bit6~7 is the mux for fix pll and xtal. At the beginning,
a common MMC and NAND sub-clock was discussed and planed to be implemented
as NFC clock provider, but now this series of patches of a common MMC and
NAND sub-clock are never being accepted. the reasons for giving up are:
1. EMMC and NAND, which are mutually exclusive anyway
2. coupling the EMMC and NAND.
3. it seems that a common MMC and NAND sub-clock is over engineered.

User-space applications making use of MTD devices via /dev/mtd*
character devices currently have limited capabilities for reading data:
- only deprecated methods of accessing OOB layout information exist,
- there is no way to explicitly specify MTD operation mode to use; it
is auto-selected based on the MTD file mode (MTD_FILE_MODE_*) set
for the character device; in particular, this prevents using
MTD_OPS_AUTO_OOB for reads,
- all existing user-space interfaces which cause mtd_read() or
mtd_read_oob() to be called (via mtdchar_read() and
mtdchar_read_oob(), respectively) return success even when those
functions return -EUCLEAN or -EBADMSG; this renders user-space
applications using these interfaces unaware of any corrected
bitflips or uncorrectable ECC errors detected during reads.
Note that the existing MEMWRITE ioctl allows the MTD operation mode to
be explicitly set, allowing user-space applications to write page data
and OOB data without requiring them to know anything about the OOB
layout of the MTD device they are writing to (MTD_OPS_AUTO_OOB). Also,
the MEMWRITE ioctl does not mangle the return value of mtd_write_oob().
Add a new ioctl, MEMREAD, which addresses the above issues. It is
intended to be a read-side counterpart of the existing MEMWRITE ioctl.
Similarly to the latter, the read operation is performed in a loop which
processes at most mtd->erasesize bytes in each iteration. This is done
to prevent unbounded memory allocations caused by calling kmalloc() with
the 'size' argument taken directly from the struct mtd_read_req provided
by user space. However, the new ioctl is implemented so that the values
it returns match those that would have been returned if just a single
mtd_read_oob() call was issued to handle the entire read operation in
one go.
Note that while just returning -EUCLEAN or -EBADMSG to user space would
already be a valid and useful indication of the ECC algorithm detecting
errors during a read operation, that signal would not be granular enough
to cover all use cases. For example, knowing the maximum number of
bitflips detected in a single ECC step during a read operation performed
on a given page may be useful when dealing with an MTD partition whose
ECC layout varies across pages (e.g. a partition consisting of a
bootloader area using a "custom" ECC layout followed by data pages using
a "standard" ECC layout). To address that, include ECC statistics in
the structure returned to user space by the new MEMREAD ioctl.

Extend struct mtd_req_stats with two new fields holding the number of
corrected bitflips and uncorrectable errors detected during a read
operation. This is a prerequisite for ultimately passing those counters
to user space, where they can be useful to applications for making
better-informed choices about moving data around.
Unlike 'max_bitflips' (which is set - in a common code path - to the
return value of a function called while the MTD device's mutex is held),
these counters have to be maintained in each MTD driver which defines
the '_read_oob' callback because the statistics need to be calculated
while the MTD device's mutex is held.

As the 'stats' field in struct mtd_oob_ops is used in conditional
expressions, ensure it is always zero-initialized in all such structures
to prevent random stack garbage from being interpreted as a pointer.
Strictly speaking, this problem currently only needs to be fixed for
struct mtd_oob_ops structures subsequently passed to mtd_read_oob().
However, this commit goes a step further and makes all instances of
struct mtd_oob_ops in the tree zero-initialized, in hope of preventing
future problems, e.g. if struct mtd_req_stats gets extended with write
statistics at some point.

mtd_read_oob() callers are currently oblivious to the details of ECC
errors detected during the read operation - they only learn (through the
return value) whether any corrected bitflips or uncorrectable errors
occurred. More detailed ECC information can be useful to user-space
applications for making better-informed choices about moving data
around.
Extend struct mtd_oob_ops with a pointer to a newly-introduced struct
mtd_req_stats and set its 'max_bitflips' field to the maximum number of
bitflips found in a single ECC step during the read operation performed
by mtd_read_oob(). This is a prerequisite for ultimately passing that
value back to user space.

Commit f6424c22aa ("mtd: rawnand: fsl_elbc: Make SW ECC work") added
support for specifying ECC mode via DTS and skipping autodetection.
But it broke explicit specification of HW ECC mode in DTS as correct
settings for HW ECC mode are applied only when NONE mode or nothing was
specified in DTS file.
Also it started aliasing NONE mode to be same as when ECC mode was not
specified and disallowed usage of ON_DIE mode.
Fix all these issues. Use autodetection of ECC mode only in case when mode
was really not specified in DTS file by checking that ecc value is invalid.
Set HW ECC settings either when HW ECC was specified in DTS or it was
autodetected. And do not fail when ON_DIE mode is set.

The value returned by an i2c driver's remove function is mostly ignored.
(Only an error message is printed if the value is non-zero that the
error is ignored.)
So change the prototype of the remove function to return no value. This
way driver authors are not tempted to assume that passing an error to
the upper layer is a good idea. All drivers are adapted accordingly.
There is no intended change of behaviour, all callbacks were prepared to
return 0 before.

These Infineon chips support volatile version of configuration registers
and it is recommended to update volatile registers in the field application
due to a risk of the non-volatile registers corruption by power interrupt.
Add support for volatile QE bit.
For the single-die package parts (512Mb and 1Gb), only bottom 4KB and

We need to track the flash's internal address mode as there are flashes
that can operate with 4B opcodes but unfortunately do not have a 4B opcode
correspondent for all the 3B opcodes. Such an example is the Infineon
Semper chips which provide 4B opcodes for read/program/erase but do not
provide 4B opcodes for Read/Write Any Register. These registers are
indexed by address and require the internal address mode of the flash
before Read/Write Any Register opcodes are issued.
4B opcodes are preferred over changing the flash's address mode to 4byte,
as set_4byte_addr_mode could be done in a non-volatile way and could break
the boot sequence. Thus we need to track the flash's internal address mode
so that we can use 4B opcodes together with opcodes that don't have a 4B
opcode correspondent. Track flash's internal address mode.
addr_mode_nbytes is discovered when parsing BFPT. For the
BFPT_DWORD1_ADDRESS_BYTES_3_OR_4 case, one could introduce a method that
queries the flash's internal address mode at run-time (works for Winbond).
If a run-time querying can not be accomplished or if SFDP is not defined
at all, but the address mode is volatile and resets to a default known
value at boot, one can change the default addr_mode_nbytes value of 3 by
introducing a flash_info flag. If the address mode can not be queried,
discovered and it is configured via a non-volatile register, we may
introduce a dt property, but it will harm the generic approach of the
jedec,spi-nor compatible. All this complexity is not needed now, so let it
for future development.

The Intel SPI controller does not support low level operations, like
reading the flag status register (FSR). It only exposes a set of high
level operations for software to use. For this reason check the return
value of micron_st_nor_read_fsr() and if the operation was not
supported, use the status register value only. This allows the chip to
work even when attached to Intel SPI controller (there are such systems
out there).

06781a5026 Fixes the calculation of the DEVICE_BUSY_TIMEOUT register
value from busy_timeout_cycles. busy_timeout_cycles is calculated wrong
though: It is calculated based on the maximum page read time, but the
timeout is also used for page write and block erase operations which
require orders of magnitude bigger timeouts.
Fix this by calculating busy_timeout_cycles from the maximum of
tBERS_max and tPROG_max.
This is for now the easiest and most obvious way to fix the driver.
There's room for improvements though: The NAND_OP_WAITRDY_INSTR tells us
the desired timeout for the current operation, so we could program the
timeout dynamically for each operation instead of setting a fixed
timeout. Also we could wire up the interrupt handler to actually detect
and forward timeouts occurred when waiting for the chip being ready.
As a sidenote I verified that the change in 06781a5026 is really
correct. I wired up the interrupt handler in my tree and measured the
time between starting the operation and the timeout interrupt handler
coming in. The time increases 41us with each step in the timeout
register which corresponds to 4096 clock cycles with the 99MHz clock
that I have.

According to the Arasan NAND controller spec, the flash clock rate for SDR
must be <= 100 MHz, while for NV-DDR it must be the same as the rate of the
CLK line for the mode. The driver previously always set 100 MHz for NV-DDR,
which would result in incorrect behavior for NV-DDR modes 0-4.
The appropriate clock rate can be calculated from the NV-DDR timing
parameters as 1/tCK, or for rates measured in picoseconds,
10^12 / nand_nvddr_timings->tCK_min.

We have many parser that register mtd partitions at runtime. One example
is the cmdlinepart or the smem-part parser where the compatible is defined
in the dts and the partitions gets detected and registered by the
parser. This is problematic for the NVMEM subsystem that requires an OF
node to detect NVMEM cells.
To fix this problem, introduce an additional logic that will try to
assign an OF node to the MTD if declared.
On MTD addition, it will be checked if the MTD has an OF node and if
not declared will check if a partition with the same label / node name is
declared in DTS. If an exact match is found, the partition dynamically
allocated by the parser will have a connected OF node.
The NVMEM subsystem will detect the OF node and register any NVMEM cells
declared statically in the DTS.

IPQ8064 nand have special pages where a different layout scheme is used.
These special page are used by boot partition and on reading them
lots of warning are reported about wrong ECC data and if written to
results in broken data and not bootable device.
The layout scheme used by these special page consist in using 512 bytes
as the codeword size (even for the last codeword) while writing to CFG0
register. This forces the NAND controller to unprotect the 4 bytes of
spare data.
Since the kernel is unaware of this different layout for these special
page, it does try to protect the spare data too during read/write and
warn about CRC errors.
Add support for this by permitting the user to declare these special
pages in dts by declaring offset and size of the partition. The driver
internally will convert these value to nand pages.
On user read/write the page is checked and if it's a boot page the
correct layout is used.

The DEVICE_BUSY_TIMEOUT value is described in the Reference Manual as:
| Timeout waiting for NAND Ready/Busy or ATA IRQ. Used in WAIT_FOR_READY
| mode. This value is the number of GPMI_CLK cycles multiplied by 4096.
So instead of multiplying the value in cycles with 4096, we have to
divide it by that value. Use DIV_ROUND_UP to make sure we are on the
safe side, especially when the calculated value in cycles is smaller
than 4096 as typically the case.
This bug likely never triggered because any timeout != 0 usually will
do. In my case the busy timeout in cycles was originally calculated as
2408, which multiplied with 4096 is 0x968000. The lower 16 bits were
taken for the 16 bit wide register field, so the register value was
0x8000. With 2970bf5a32 ("mtd: rawnand: gpmi: fix controller timings
setting") however the value in cycles became 2384, which multiplied
with 4096 is 0x950000. The lower 16 bit are 0x0 now resulting in an
intermediate timeout when reading from NAND.

This reverts commit 3380557fc7.
It turned out this "4-byte" ID might have been an honest mistake.
Regrettably, the chip Andreas has might be a counterfeit or is
damaged in some other way and shouldn't have ended up in a router.
Andreas reported his chip is returning just four bytes:
"98 f1 80 15 00 00 00 00".
However, according to Kioxia/Toshiba's datasheet, there should
have been at least another byte that would have contained the
correct OOB size that Andreas needed.
Miquel and Andreas are both favoring reverting the patch over
further, possibly hacky modifications:
"[Reverting] is the safest option here. Apart from this device, we
do not know how many devices have these damaged/counterfeit chips.
