Pull nouveau destaging + Kelper modesetting support from Dave Airlie:
"This pull request is unexpected and not something I had mentioned
previously.
So NVIDIA announced new Kepler GPUs this morning, and Ben has killed
himself getting modesetting support for them together to have on
launch day. Most of the code to support the new chips has already
gone in, however this pull contains a few more pieces along with the
final enables so the driver binds to the new Kepler cards. Its quite
amazing that nouveau can support a GPU on its launch day even if its
just unaccelerated modesetting, and I'd like to have support in the
next kernel.
In order to sweeten the deal, Ben has also requested nouveau destage
and become ABI stable, the only change is the version number bump
which he prepared userspace for quite a long time ago. The driver
hasn't broken ABI since that one big break that caused a lot of fuss.
It's also quite a small set of code, and not likely to break anything."

Pull radeon southern islands / trinity support from Dave Airlie:
"This is support from AMD for their newest GPU and APUs. The products
called RadeonHD 7xxx, and the Trinity APU series.
This did come in a bit late, due to some over-complicated AMD internal

company has decided it wants to support open source. However as I
said previously I'd rather not put the people who've got this hw for 3
months now being forced to use fglrx on it if there is open code.

Pull drm main changes from Dave Airlie:
"This is the main drm pull request, I'm probably going to send two more
smaller ones, will explain below.
This contains a patch that is also in the fbdev tree, but it should be
the same patch, it added an API for hot unplugging framebuffer
devices, and I need that API for a new driver.
It also contains some changes to the i2c tree which Jean has acked,
and one change to moorestown platform stuff in x86.
Highlights:
- new drivers: UDL driver for USB displaylink devices, kms only,
should support correct hotplug operations.
- core: i2c speedups + better hotplug support, EDID overriding via
firmware interface - allows user to load a firmware for a broken
monitor/kvm from userspace, it even has documentation for it.
- exynos: new HDMI audio + hdmi 1.4 + virtual output driver
- gma500: code cleanup
- radeon: cleanups, CS optimisations, streamout support and pageflip
fix
- nouveau: NVD9 displayport support + more reclocking work
- i915: re-enabling GMBUS, finish gpu patch (might help hibernation
who knows), missed irq fixes, stencil tiling fixes, interlaced
support, aliasesd PPGTT support for SNB/IVB, swizzling for SNB/IVB,
semaphore fixes
As well as the usual bunch of cleanups and fixes all over the place.
I've got two things I'd like to merge a bit later:
a) AMD support for all their new radeonhd 7000 series GPU and APUs.
AMD dropped this a bit late due to insane internal review
processes, (please AMD just follow Intel and let open source guys
ship stuff early) however I don't want to penalise people who own
this hardware (since its been on sale for 3-4 months and GPU hw
doesn't exactly have a lifetime in years) and consign them to
using closed drivers for longer than necessary. The changes are
well contained and just plug into the driver new gpu functionality
so they should be fairly regression proof. I just want to give
them a bit of a run on the hw AMD kindly sent me.
b) drm prime/dma-buf interface code. This is just infrastructure
code to expose the dma-buf stuff to drm drivers and to userspace.
I'm not planning on pushing any driver support in this cycle
(except maybe exynos), but I'd like to get the infrastructure code
in so for the next cycle I can start getting the driver support
into the individual drivers. We have started driver support for
i915, nouveau and udl along with I think exynos and omap in
staging. However this code relies on the dma-buf tree being
pulled into your tree first since it needs the latest interfaces
from that tree. I'll push to get that tree sent asap.
(oh and any warnings you see in i915 are gcc's fault from what anyone
can see)."

msic_thermal_platform_data() thermal function being added next to the

The time has come to get a proper version number that we can change to
indicate new features etc, rather than the lock-step 0.0.XX that we
previously had.
libdrm has recognised this version as compatible with 0.0.16 since 2.4.22,
so hopefully any breakage people see should be very minimal.

All available subchannels are now available for userspace to do with as it
pleases on NVC0+.
On all earlier chipsets, the kernel still uses a software object on subc 0
to implement the page flip completion method. I hope to find some decent
way of addressing this too, but it's a tad tricker prior to fermi.
Signed-off-by: Ben Skeggs <bskeggs@redhat.com>
I want to be able to use REF_CNT from other places in the kernel without
pushing a fence object onto the list of emitted fences.
The current code makes an assumption that every time the acked sequence is
bumped that there's at least one fence on the list that'll be signalled.
This will no longer be true in the near future.

There was once good reasons for wanting the drm to be able to use M2MF etc
on user channels, but they're not relevant anymore. For the general
buffer move case, we've already lost by transferring between vram/sysmem
already so the context switching overhead is minimal in comparison.

On Sanybridge a few MI read/write commands only work when ppgtt is
enabled. Userspace therefore needs to be able to check whether ppgtt
is enabled. For added hilarity, you need to reset the "use global GTT"
bit on snb when ppgtt is enabled, otherwise it won't work. Despite
what bspec says about automatically using ppgtt ...
Luckily PIPE_CONTROL (the only write cmd current userspace uses) is
not affected by all this, as tested by tests/gem_pipe_control_store_loop.

PIPE_CONTROL on snb needs global gtt mappings in place to workaround a
hw gotcha. No other commands need such a workaround. Luckily we can
detect a PIPE_CONTROL commands easily because they have a write_domain

And track the existence of such a binding similar to the aliasing
ppgtt case. Speeds up binding/unbinding in the common case where we
only need a ppgtt binding (which is accessed in a cpu coherent fashion
by the gpu) and no gloabl gtt binding (which needs uc writes for the
ptes).
This patch just puts the required tracking in place.
v2: Check that global gtt mappings exist in the error_state capture

Note that there's a functional change buried in this patch wrt the ilk
dmar workaround: We now only idle the gpu while tearing down the dmar

would have made for some really ugly code and afaik the issue is only
with the dmar unmapping that needs a fully idle gpu.

Broken monitors and/or broken graphic boards may send erroneous or no
EDID data. This also applies to broken KVM devices that are unable to
correctly forward the EDID data of the connected monitor but invent
their own fantasy data.
This patch allows to specify an EDID data set to be used instead of
probing the monitor for it. It contains built-in data sets of frequently
used screen resolutions. In addition, a particular EDID data set may be
provided in the /lib/firmware directory and loaded via the firmware
interface. The name is passed to the kernel as module parameter of the
drm_kms_helper module either when loaded
options drm_kms_helper edid_firmware=edid/1280x1024.bin
or as kernel commandline parameter
drm_kms_helper.edid_firmware=edid/1280x1024.bin
It is also possible to restrict the usage of a specified EDID data set
to a particular connector. This is done by prepending the name of the
connector to the name of the EDID data set using the syntax
edid_firmware=[<connector>:]<edid>
such as, for example,
edid_firmware=DVI-I-1:edid/1920x1080.bin
in which case no other connector will be affected.
The built-in data sets are
Resolution Name
--------------------------------
1024x768 edid/1024x768.bin
1280x1024 edid/1280x1024.bin
1680x1050 edid/1680x1050.bin
1920x1080 edid/1920x1080.bin
They are ignored, if a file with the same name is available in the
/lib/firmware directory.
The built-in EDID data sets are based on standard timings that may not
apply to a particular monitor and even crash it. Ideally, EDID data of
the connected monitor should be used. They may be obtained through the
drm/cardX/cardX-<connector>/edid entry in the /sys/devices PCI directory
of a correctly working graphics adapter.
It is even possible to specify the name of an EDID data set on-the-fly
via the /sys/module interface, e.g.
echo edid/myedid.bin >/sys/module/drm_kms_helper/parameters/edid_firmware
The new screen mode is considered when the related kernel function is
called for the first time after the change. Such calls are made when the
X server is started or when the display settings dialog is opened in an
already running X server.

Following the documentation of the Legacy Backlight Brightness (LBB)
Register in the configuration space of some Intel PCI graphics adapters,
setting the LBB register with the value 0x0 causes the backlight to be
turned off, and 0xFF causes the backlight to be set to 100% intensity
(http://download.intel.com/embedded/processors/Whitepaper/324567.pdf).
The Acer Aspire 5734Z, however, turns the backlight off at 0xFF and sets
it to maximum intensity at 0. In consequence, the screen of this systems
becomes dark at an early boot stage which makes it unusable. The same
inversion applies to the BLC_PWM_CTL I915 register. This problem was
introduced in kernel version 2.6.38 when the PCI device of this system
was first supported by the i915 KMS module.

NV40(100914) confirmed by switching an NV49 to DDR1/DDR2 values and making
sure that the binary driver behaviour showed it had detected DDR1/DDR2
instead of GDDR3 before dying horribly.
NV40(100474) confirmed by doing much the same task as above on an NV44,
except this was *much* easier as changing the values didn't seem to have
any noticable effect on the memory controller aside from changing the
binary driver's behaviour.

We need to merge this ahead of some of the cleanup because a lot of needed
cleanup spans both new and old chips. If we try and clean up and the merge
we end up fighting ourselves.

In psb_intel_lvds_init(), if we fail to allocate memory for
'psb_intel_connector' we free the memory we previously allocated for
'psb_intel_encoder', but we then proceed to use that free'd pointer
when we do 'psb_intel_encoder->dev_priv = lvds_priv;'.
We may also leak the memory we allocated for 'psb_intel_encoder' if we
'goto failed_connector;' and the variable goes out of scope.
While I was there anyway, I also removed the pointless 'if
(psb_intel_connector)' before freeing it at the 'failed_connector:'
label - kfree() deals gracefully with NULL pointers, so it is not
needed.
