Traditionally on powerpc servers PREEMPT_NONE was used, but these days
multiple distros are building with PREEMPT_VOLUNTARY - Ubuntu, Fedora &
CentOS all enable it.
So update the upstream config to reflect that, and get test coverage
before code hits the distros.

Add PPC_QEMU_E500 to corenet_base.config, which is then used to generate
corenet64_smp_defconfig and corenet32_smp_defconfig.
That then allows both those configs to build kernels that boot in qemu
using the ppce500 machine type and respectively -cpu e5500 or -cpu
e500mc.
The code that is added by PPC_QEMU_E500 just defines another machine
with a probe function that recognises qemu, so there should be no change
when booting on actual hardware supported by CORENET_GENERIC.
The increase in vmlinux size is less than 1KB.

Based on documentation revision dates, this MPC82xx pq2fads system
predates the MPC8272-ADS variant by about a year and only has 1/2
the amount of RAM (32MB) -- largely making it useless with a modern
v6.x kernel from today.
Similar to the MPC8272-ADS the pq2fads also supported other 82xx CPU
variants, had 8MB flash, and like the 8272 ADS platform, was on a fairly
large PCB in order to have space for breakout connectors for all features.
These 82xx platforms are two decades old, and originally made for a
small group of industry related people in order to assist in new OEM
board designs. Given that, it makes sense to remove support today.

This evaluation platform was essentially a single core 8641 with
integrated graphics/display support - in an effort to reduce chip count
on kiosk and similar applications.
Compared to other evaluation platforms considered for removal in other
recent commits, this platform was relatively rare. Unlike all the other
10+ platforms, I couldn't find any documentation on it - just a link to
downloading the 2007 era BSP in "LTIB" format as was done back then.
With all that in mind, it seems prudent to remove it here in 2023.

There is no denying that this was an interesting platform in its day.
Access to a SMP powerpc platform became a bit more obtainable for folks
in the BSP industry in the 2007 era, thanks to this platform.
Add to that the move to the black Antec case vs. the generic white 2005
era case of the MPC8548CDS or the retro 1950s 1/2 height horizontal case
of the HPC II, and it was pretty interesting to people like myself then.
However, like all the other evaluation platforms, the overall system
was complex out of necessity, as it tried to showcase all possible
features and use-cases. That included an AMP option, where you could run
two bootloaders and two kernels over two serial consoles. Peripheral
sharing got a bit more tricky when you got to the hard disk and similar.
In any case we still have the same circumstance. A relatively rare and
expensive evaluation platform that is now 15+ years old and not out there
in large numbers in the general public. Removal in 2023 just makes sense.

This was an interesting platform - it was the 1st instance of a
respin of earlier 130nm 74xx CPUs on 90nm and systems using MPC7448
were positioned as a rack server platform solution.
Given that, the evaluation platform (at least the one I had) was shipped
in a horizontal 1/2 height Antec desktop case with retro styling and
colours, despite the fact the docs explicitly stated that the HPC II is
not a desktop machine (noting it had no gfx or legacy PC I/O support).
Historic trivia aside, this was the 1st introduction of the e600
procfam as an evolution from the earlier G4.
However even with the claim to being "1st e600" it seems the 2005+
era was turning its attention to multicore support and from my memory
this poor guy was quickly overshadowed by the dual core MPC8641D.
All that aside, we are once again looking at 15+ year old evaluation
platforms that were not widely distributed, so 2023 removal makes sense.

This final variant in the e300 family of Modular Development System
(MDS) in this series was actually aimed at feature reduction - things
like floating point and ethernet were removed in order to make for a
lower power and lower cost system.
Like all the MDS systems, it was meant as a vehicle to get the CPU out
early to hardware OEMs so software and board development could take place
in parallel.
These were made in limited numbers and availability preference was given
to partners who were planning to make their own boards.
Given that the whole reason for existence was to assist in enabling new
board designs [not happening for 10+ years], and that they weren't
generally available, and that the hardware wasn't really hobbyist friendly
even for retro computing, it makes sense to retire the support for this

This next evolutionary step in the e300 family of Modular Development
System (MDS) still has, at its core component, a full length card with a
PCI edge. No case. Serial and network connectors were on card, so it
could optionally be fitted with plastic stand-offs and run stand-alone
off a power brick.
This is very similar to the MPC834x_MDS and MPC836x_MDS removed in the
prior commits, but with this board variant as yet another evolutionary
step. SATA and PCI-e were now available. But overall the form factor
and design goals were unchanged.

This driver didn't see real maintainance since several years. It has
several trivial issues (check $(scripts/checkpatch.pl -f

explict kref handling, ...). Also today it's hard to find hardware to
make actually use of such a card and I suspect the driver is completely
unused.

This driver got its last actual change in 2006 and is probably unused as
nowbody should use a cardbus to USB adapter any more.
If it were still used, the driver was in urgent need for maintainer
love. (Explicit kref handling, underdocumented locking, .remove() can
return errors ...)
Also the link in the (now removed) help text doesn't look actively
maintained. According to archive.org it forwarded to

These char PCMCIA drivers are buggy[1] and receive only minimal care. It
was concluded[2], that we should try to remove most pcmcia drivers

Note that I also removed a UAPI header: include/uapi/linux/cm4000_cs.h.
I found only coccinelle tests mentioning some ioctl constants from that
file. But they are not actually used. Anyway, should someone complain,
we may reintroduce the header (or its parts).

Here is the large set of USB and Thunderbolt driver changes for 6.2-rc1.
Overall, thanks to the removal of a driver, more lines were removed than
added, a nice change. Highlights include:
- removal of the sisusbvga driver that was not used by anyone anymore
- minor thunderbolt driver changes and tweaks
- chipidea driver updates
- usual set of typec driver features and hardware support added
- musb minor driver fixes
- fotg210 driver fixes, bringing that hardware back from the "dead"
- minor dwc3 driver updates
- addition, and then removal, of a list.h helper function for many USB
and other subsystem drivers, that ended up breaking the build. That
will come back for 6.3-rc1, it missed this merge window.
- usual xhci updates and enhancements
- usb-serial driver updates and support for new devices
- other minor USB driver updates

It's very unusual to have both a command line option and a compile time
option, and apparently that's confusing to people. Also, basically
everybody enables the compile time option now, which means people who
want to disable this wind up having to use the command line option to
ensure that anyway. So just reduce the number of moving pieces and nix
the compile time option in favor of the more versatile command line
option.

Distro kernels tend to be moving to VIRT_CPU_ACCOUNTING_GEN, and there
is not much reason why PPC64 should be special here. Remove the special
case and make the ppc64 and pseries defconfigs use GEN accounting
(others will use TICK, as-per Kconfig defaults).
VIRT_CPU_ACCOUNTING_NATIVE does provide scaled vtime and stolen time
apportioned between system and user time, and vtime accounting is not
unconditionally enabled, and possibly other things. But it would be
better at this point to extend GEN to cover important missing features
rather than directing users back to a less used option.

DECnet is an obsolete network protocol that receives more attention
from kernel janitors than users. It belongs in computer protocol
history museum not in Linux kernel.
It has been "Orphaned" in kernel since 2010. The iproute2 support
for DECnet was dropped in 5.0 release. The documentation link on
Sourceforge says it is abandoned there as well.
Leave the UAPI alone to keep userspace programs compiling.
This means that there is still an empty neighbour table
for AF_DECNET.
The table of /proc/sys/net entries was updated to match
current directories and reformatted to be alphabetical.

sed -i s/DEBUG_INFO=y/DEBUG_INFO_DWARF_TOOLCHAIN_DEFAULT=y/g `git grep -l DEBUG_INFO arch/powerpc/configs/`

Looks like almost all changes to this driver had been tree-wide
refactoring since git era begun. There is one commit from Al
15 years ago which could potentially be fixing a real bug.
The driver is using virt_to_bus() and is a real magnet for pointless
cleanups. It seems unlikely to have real users. Let's try to shed
this maintenance burden.

Remove the pseries scanlog driver.
This code supports functions from Power4-era servers that are not present
on targets currently supported by arch/powerpc. System manuals from this
time have this description:
Scan Dump data is a set of chip data that the service processor gathers
after a system malfunction. It consists of chip scan rings, chip trace
arrays, and Scan COM (SCOM) registers. This data is stored in the
scan-log partition of the system’s Nonvolatile Random Access
Memory (NVRAM).
PowerVM partition firmware development doesn't recognize the associated
function call or property, and they don't see any references to them in
their codebase. It seems to have been specific to non-virtualized pseries.

Merge the changes to retire the legacy WR sbc8548 and sbc8641 platforms
from Paul. These were sent as a pull request, but I rebased them onto
rc2 so as not to pull too many unrelated changes in to my next.
Description from Paul's pull request follows:
In v2.6.27 (2008, 917f0af9e5) the sbc8260 support was implicitly
retired by not being carried forward through the ppc --> powerpc
device tree transition.
Then, in v3.6 (2012, b048b4e17c) we retired the support for the
sbc8560 boards.
Next, in v4.18 (2017, 3bc6cf5a86) we retired the support for the
2006 vintage sbc834x boards.
The sbc8548 and sbc8641d boards were maybe 1-2 years newer than the
sbc834x boards, but it is also 3+ years later, so it makes sense to
now retire them as well - which is what is done here.
These two remaining WR boards were based on the Freescale MPC8548-CDS
and the MPC8641D-HPCN reference board implementations. Having had the
chance to use these and many other Fsl ref boards, I know this: The
Freescale reference boards were typically produced in limited quantity
and primarily available to BSP developers and hardware designers, and
not likely to have found a 2nd life with hobbyists and/or collectors.
It was good to have that BSP code subjected to mainline review and
hence also widely available back in the day. But given the above, we
should probably also be giving serious consideration to retiring
additional similar age/type reference board platforms as well.
I've always felt it is important for us to be proactive in retiring
old code, since it has a genuine non-zero carrying cost, as described
in the 930d52c012 merge log. But for the here and now, we just
clean up the remaining BSP code that I had added for SBC platforms.

The support was for this was added to mainline over 12 years ago, in
v2.6.26 [4e8aae89a3] just around the ppc --> powerpc migration.
I believe the board was introduced shortly after the sbc8548 board,
making it roughly a 14 year old platform - with the CPU speed and
memory size typical for that era.
I haven't had one of these boards for several years, and availability
was discontinued several years before that.
Given that, there is no point in adding a burden to testing coverage
that builds all possible defconfigs, so it makes sense to remove it.
Of course it will remain in the git history forever, for anyone who
happens to find a functional board and wants to tinker with it.

Here is the big set of tty and serial driver patches for 5.14-rc1.
A bit more than normal, but nothing major, lots of cleanups. Highlights
are:
- lots of tty api cleanups and mxser driver cleanups from Jiri
- build warning fixes
- various serial driver updates
- coding style cleanups
- various tty driver minor fixes and updates
- removal of broken and disable r3964 line discipline (finally!)
All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported
issues.

mpc885_ads_defconfig is used by several CI robots.
A few functionnalities are specific to 8xx and are not covered
by other default configuration, so improve build test coverage
by adding them to mpc885_ads_defconfig.
8xx is the only platform supporting 16k page size in addition
to 4k page size. Considering that 4k page size is widely tested
by other configurations, lets make 16k pages the selection for
8xx, as it has demonstrated in the past to be a weakness.
CONFIG_PIN_TLB is specific to 8xx, select it as it mainly adds
code with removing much.
CONFIG_BDI_SWITCH is specific to PPC32 and adds codes.
CONFIG_PPC_PTDUMP has specific part for 8xx.
CONFIG_MODULES has specific handling for 8xx.
CONFIG_SMC_UCODE_PATCH is specific to 8xx for loading microcode.
CONFIG_PERF_EVENTS has specific parts for 8xx.
CONFIG_MATH_EMULATION is used by 8xx.
CONFIG_STRICT_KERNEL_RWX has specificities for 8xx.
CONFIG_VIRT_CPU_ACCOUNTING_NATIVE has specific parts for PPC32.
CONFIG_IPV6 has specificities for PPC32.
CONFIG_BPF_JIT has specificities for PPC32.
A few drivers are tightly linked to the 8xx:
- CONFIG_SPI_FSL_SPI
- CONFIG_CRYPTO_DEV_TALITOS
- CONFIG_8xxx_WDT
- CONFIG_8xx_GPIO
- CONFIG_PPC_EARLY_DEBUG_CPM

Noone stepped up in the past two years since it was marked as BROKEN by
commit c7084edc3f (tty: mark Siemens R3964 line discipline as BROKEN).
Remove the line discipline for good.
Three remarks:
* we remove also the uapi header (as noone is able to use that interface
anyway)
* we do *not* remove the N_R3964 constant definition from tty.h, so it
remains reserved.
* in_interrupt() check is now removed from vt's con_put_char. Noone else
calls tty_operations::put_char from interrupt context.

Summary of modules changes for the 5.12 merge window:
- Retire EXPORT_UNUSED_SYMBOL() and EXPORT_SYMBOL_GPL_FUTURE(). These export
types were introduced between 2006 - 2008. All the of the unused symbols have
been long removed and gpl future symbols were converted to gpl quite a long
time ago, and I don't believe these export types have been used ever since.
So, I think it should be safe to retire those export types now. (Christoph Hellwig)
- Refactor and clean up some aged code cruft in the module loader (Christoph Hellwig)
- Build {,module_}kallsyms_on_each_symbol only when livepatching is enabled, as
it is the only caller (Christoph Hellwig)
- Unexport find_module() and module_mutex and fix the last module
callers to not rely on these anymore. Make module_mutex internal to
the module loader. (Christoph Hellwig)
- Harden ELF checks on module load and validate ELF structures before checking

The AKEBONO config has various selects under it, including some with

The problem is that AKEBONO is using select to enable things that are
not true dependencies, but rather things you probably want enabled in
an AKEBONO kernel. That is what a defconfig is for.
So drop those selects and instead move those symbols into the
defconfig. This fixes all the kconfig warnings, and the result of make
44x/akebono_defconfig is the same before and after the patch.

The "oprofile" user-space tools don't use the kernel OPROFILE support
any more, and haven't in a long time. User-space has been converted to
the perf interfaces.
This commits stops building oprofile for powerpc and removes any
reference to it from directories in arch/powerpc/ apart from
arch/powerpc/oprofile, which will be removed in the next commit (this is
broken into two commits as the size of the commit became very big, ~5k
lines).
Note that the member "oprofile_cpu_type" in "struct cpu_spec" isn't
removed as it was also used by other parts of the code.

The driver has its own HID descriptor parsing code, that had and still
has several issues discovered by syzbot and other tools. Ideally we
should move the driver over to the HID subsystem, so that it uses proven
parsing code. However the devices in question are EOL, and GTCO is not
willing to extend resources for that, so let's simply remove the driver.
Note that our HID support has greatly improved over the last 10 years,
we may also consider reverting 6f8d9e26e7 ("hid-core.c: Adds all GTCO
CalComp Digitizers and InterWrite School Products to blacklist") and see
if GTCO devices actually work with normal HID drivers.

It's sometimes handy to have a config that boots a bit like a system
under secure boot (forcing lockdown=integrity, without needing any
extra stuff like a command line option).
This config file allows that, and also turns on a few assorted security
and hardening options for good measure.
