0c71437dd5 can: j1939: j1939_session_deactivate(): clarify lifetime of session object
The j1939_session_deactivate() is decrementing the session ref-count and
potentially can free() the session. This would cause use-after-free
situation.

However, the code calling j1939_session_deactivate() does always hold
another reference to the session, so that it would not be free()ed in
this code path.

This patch adds a comment to make this clear and a WARN_ON, to ensure
that future changes will not violate this requirement. Further this
patch avoids dereferencing the session pointer as a precaution to avoid
use-after-free if the session is actually free()ed.

It's because raw_setsockopt() concurrently with
unregister_netdevice_many(). Concurrent scenario as following.

After unlist_netdevice(), dev_get_by_index() return NULL in
raw_setsockopt(). Function raw_enable_filters() will add sock
and can_filter to net->can.rx_alldev_list. Then the sock is closed.
Followed by, we sock_sendmsg() to a new vcan device use the same
can_filter. Protocol stack match the old receiver whose sock has
been released on net->can.rx_alldev_list in can_rcv_filter().
Function raw_rcv() uses the freed sock. UAF BUG is triggered.

We can find that the key issue is that net_device has not been
protected in raw_setsockopt(). Use rtnl_lock to protect net_device
in raw_setsockopt().

aaf473d010 can: j1939: j1939_sk_setsockopt(): prevent allocation of j1939 filter for optlen == 0
If optval != NULL and optlen == 0 are specified for SO_J1939_FILTER in
j1939_sk_setsockopt(), memdup_sockptr() will return ZERO_PTR for 0
size allocation. The new filter will be mistakenly assigned ZERO_PTR.
This patch checks for optlen != 0 and filter will be assigned NULL in
case of optlen == 0.

14a4696bc3 can: isotp: isotp_release(): omit unintended hrtimer restart on socket release
When closing the isotp socket, the potentially running hrtimers are
canceled before removing the subscription for CAN identifiers via
can_rx_unregister().

This may lead to an unintended (re)start of a hrtimer in
isotp_rcv_cf() and isotp_rcv_fc() in the case that a CAN frame is
received by isotp_rcv() while the subscription removal is processed.

However, isotp_rcv() is called under RCU protection, so after calling
can_rx_unregister, we may call synchronize_rcu in order to wait for
any RCU read-side critical sections to finish. This prevents the
reception of CAN frames after hrtimer_cancel() and therefore the
unintended (re)start of the hrtimers.

d5f9023fa6 can: bcm: delay release of struct bcm_op after synchronize_rcu()
can_rx_register() callbacks may be called concurrently to the call to
can_rx_unregister(). The callbacks and callback data, though, are
protected by RCU and the struct sock reference count.

So the callback data is really attached to the life of sk, meaning
that it should be released on sk_destruct. However, bcm_remove_op()
calls tasklet_kill(), and RCU callbacks may be called under RCU
softirq, so that cannot be used on kernels before the introduction of
HRTIMER_MODE_SOFT.

However, bcm_rx_handler() is called under RCU protection, so after
calling can_rx_unregister(), we may call synchronize_rcu() in order to
wait for any RCU read-side critical sections to finish. That is,
bcm_rx_handler() won't be called anymore for those ops. So, we only
free them, after we do that synchronize_rcu().

5e87ddbe39 can: bcm: fix infoleak in struct bcm_msg_head
On 64-bit systems, struct bcm_msg_head has an added padding of 4 bytes between
struct members count and ival1. Even though all struct members are initialized,
the 4-byte hole will contain data from the kernel stack. This patch zeroes out
struct bcm_msg_head before usage, preventing infoleaks to userspace.

8d0caedb75 can: bcm/raw/isotp: use per module netdevice notifier
syzbot is reporting hung task at register_netdevice_notifier() [1] and
unregister_netdevice_notifier() [2], for cleanup_net() might perform
time consuming operations while CAN driver's raw/bcm/isotp modules are
calling {register,unregister}_netdevice_notifier() on each socket.

Change raw/bcm/isotp modules to call register_netdevice_notifier() from
module's __init function and call unregister_netdevice_notifier() from
module's __exit function, as with gw/j1939 modules are doing.

2030043e61 can: j1939: fix Use-after-Free, hold skb ref while in use
This patch fixes a Use-after-Free found by the syzbot.

The problem is that a skb is taken from the per-session skb queue,
without incrementing the ref count. This leads to a Use-after-Free if
the skb is taken concurrently from the session queue due to a CTS.

This patch adds an additional error message in case that txqueuelen is
set too small and advices the user to increase txqueuelen.

2b17c400ae can: isotp: prevent race between isotp_bind() and isotp_setsockopt()
A race condition was found in isotp_setsockopt() which allows to
change socket options after the socket was bound.
For the specific case of SF_BROADCAST support, this might lead to possible
use-after-free because can_rx_unregister() is not called.

Checking for the flag under the socket lock in isotp_bind() and taking
the lock in isotp_setsockopt() fixes the issue.

b5f020f82a can: isotp: tx-path: zero initialize outgoing CAN frames
Commit d4eb538e1f ("can: isotp: TX-path: ensure that CAN frame flags are
initialized") ensured the TX flags to be properly set for outgoing CAN
frames.

In fact the root cause of the issue results from a missing initialization
of outgoing CAN frames created by isotp. This is no problem on the CAN bus
as the CAN driver only picks the correctly defined content from the struct
can(fd)_frame. But when the outgoing frames are monitored (e.g. with
candump) we potentially leak some bytes in the unused content of
struct can(fd)_frame.

d4eb538e1f can: isotp: TX-path: ensure that CAN frame flags are initialized
The previous patch ensures that the TX flags (struct
can_isotp_ll_options::tx_flags) are 0 for classic CAN frames or a user
configured value for CAN-FD frames.

This patch sets the CAN frames flags unconditionally to the ISO-TP TX
flags, so that they are initialized to a proper value. Otherwise when
running "candump -x" on a classical CAN ISO-TP stream shows wrongly
set "B" and "E" flags.

4e096a1886 net: introduce CAN specific pointer in the struct net_device
Since 20dd3850bc ("can: Speed up CAN frame receiption by using
ml_priv") the CAN framework uses per device specific data in the AF_CAN
protocol. For this purpose the struct net_device->ml_priv is used. Later
the ml_priv usage in CAN was extended for other users, one of them being
CAN_J1939.

Later in the kernel ml_priv was converted to an union, used by other
drivers. E.g. the tun driver started storing it's stats pointer.

Since tun devices can claim to be a CAN device, CAN specific protocols
will wrongly interpret this pointer, which will cause system crashes.
Mostly this issue is visible in the CAN_J1939 stack.

To fix this issue, we request a dedicated CAN pointer within the
net_device struct.

0de70e287b can: raw: return -ERANGE when filterset does not fit into user space buffer
Multiple filters (struct can_filter) can be set with the setsockopt()
function, which was originally intended as a write-only operation.

As getsockopt() also provides a CAN_RAW_FILTER option to read back the
given filters, the caller has to provide an appropriate user space buffer.
In the case this buffer is too small the getsockopt() silently truncates
the filter information and gives no information about the needed space.
This is safe but not convenient for the programmer.

In net/core/sock.c the SO_PEERGROUPS sockopt had a similar requirement
and solved it by returning -ERANGE in the case that the provided data
does not fit into the given user space buffer and fills the required size
into optlen, so that the caller can retry with a matching buffer length.

This patch adopts this approach for CAN_RAW_FILTER getsockopt().

921ca574cd can: isotp: add SF_BROADCAST support for functional addressing
When CAN_ISOTP_SF_BROADCAST is set in the CAN_ISOTP_OPTS flags the CAN_ISOTP
socket is switched into functional addressing mode, where only single frame
(SF) protocol data units can be send on the specified CAN interface and the
given tp.tx_id after bind().

In opposite to normal and extended addressing this socket does not register a
CAN-ID for reception which would be needed for a 1-to-1 ISOTP connection with a
segmented bi-directional data transfer.

Sending SFs on this socket is therefore a TX-only 'broadcast' operation.

d73ff9b7c4 can: af_can: can_rx_unregister(): remove WARN() statement from list operation sanity check
To detect potential bugs in CAN protocol implementations (double removal of
receiver entries) a WARN() statement has been used if no matching list item was
found for removal.

The fault injection issued by syzkaller was able to create a situation where
the closing of a socket runs simultaneously to the notifier call chain for
removing the CAN network device in use.

This case is very unlikely in real life but it doesn't break anything.
Therefore we just replace the WARN() statement with pr_warn() to preserve the
notification for the CAN protocol development.

94c23097f9 can: gw: support modification of Classical CAN DLCs
Add support for data length code modifications for Classical CAN.

The netlink configuration interface always allowed to pass any value
that fits into a byte, therefore only the modification process had to be
extended to handle the raw DLC represenation of Classical CAN frames.

When a DLC value from 0 .. F is provided for Classical CAN frame
modifications the 'len' value is modified as-is with the exception that
potentially existing 9 .. F DLC values in the len8_dlc element are moved
to the 'len' element for the modification operation by mod_retrieve_ccdlc().

After the modification the Classical CAN frame DLC information is brought
back into the correct format by mod_store_ccdlc() which is filling 'len'
and 'len8_dlc' accordingly.

c7b7496779 can: replace can_dlc as variable/element for payload length
The naming of can_dlc as element of struct can_frame and also as variable
name is misleading as it claims to be a 'data length CODE' but in reality
it always was a plain data length.

With the indroduction of a new 'len' element in struct can_frame we can now
remove can_dlc as name and make clear which of the former uses was a plain
length (-> 'len') or a data length code (-> 'dlc') value.

This patch fixes this inconsistency by moving the return condition for the
listen-only mode behind the timeout handling code.

08c487d8d8 can: j1939: j1939_sk_bind(): return failure if netdev is down
When a netdev down event occurs after a successful call to
j1939_sk_bind(), j1939_netdev_notify() can handle it correctly.

But if the netdev already in down state before calling j1939_sk_bind(),
j1939_sk_release() will stay in wait_event_interruptible() blocked
forever. Because in this case, j1939_netdev_notify() won't be called and
j1939_tp_txtimer() won't call j1939_session_cancel() or other function
to clear session for ENETDOWN error, this lead to mismatch of
j1939_session_get/put() and jsk->skb_pending will never decrease to
zero.

To reproduce it use following commands:
1. ip link add dev vcan0 type vcan
2. j1939acd -r 100,80-120 1122334455667788 vcan0
3. presses ctrl-c and thread will be blocked forever

This patch adds check for ndev->flags in j1939_sk_bind() to avoid this
kind of situation and return with -ENETDOWN.

e057dd3fc2 can: add ISO 15765-2:2016 transport protocol
CAN Transport Protocols offer support for segmented Point-to-Point
communication between CAN nodes via two defined CAN Identifiers.
As CAN frames can only transport a small amount of data bytes
(max. 8 bytes for 'classic' CAN and max. 64 bytes for CAN FD) this
segmentation is needed to transport longer PDUs as needed e.g. for
vehicle diagnosis (UDS, ISO 14229) or IP-over-CAN traffic.
This protocol driver implements data transfers according to
ISO 15765-2:2016 for 'classic' CAN and CAN FD frame types.

eb88531bdb can: raw: add missing error queue support
Error queue are not yet implemented in CAN-raw sockets.

The problem: a userland call to recvmsg(soc, msg, MSG_ERRQUEUE) on a
CAN-raw socket would unqueue messages from the normal queue without
any kind of error or warning. As such, it prevented CAN drivers from
using the functionalities that relies on the error queue such as
skb_tx_timestamp().

SCM_CAN_RAW_ERRQUEUE is defined as the type for the CAN raw error
queue. SCM stands for "Socket control messages". The name is inspired
from SCM_J1939_ERRQUEUE of include/uapi/linux/can/j1939.h.

0ae18a8268 can: j1939: add rxtimer for multipacket broadcast session
According to SAE J1939/21 (Chapter 5.12.3 and APPENDIX C), for transmit side
the required time interval between packets of a multipacket broadcast message
is 50 to 200 ms, the responder shall use a timeout of 250ms (provides margin
allowing for the maximumm spacing of 200ms). For receive side a timeout will
occur when a time of greater than 750 ms elapsed between two message packets
when more packets were expected.

So this patch fix and add rxtimer for multipacket broadcast session.

2b8b2e3155 can: j1939: abort multipacket broadcast session when timeout occurs
If timeout occurs, j1939_tp_rxtimer() first calls hrtimer_start() to restart
rxtimer, and then calls __j1939_session_cancel() to set session->state =
J1939_SESSION_WAITING_ABORT. At next timeout expiration, because of the
J1939_SESSION_WAITING_ABORT session state j1939_tp_rxtimer() will call
j1939_session_deactivate_activate_next() to deactivate current session, and
rxtimer won't be set.

But for multipacket broadcast session, __j1939_session_cancel() don't set
session->state = J1939_SESSION_WAITING_ABORT, thus current session won't be
deactivate and hrtimer_start() is called to start new rxtimer again and again.

So fix it by moving session->state = J1939_SESSION_WAITING_ABORT out of if
(!j1939_cb_is_broadcast(&session->skcb)) statement.

f4fd77fd87 can: j1939: fix support for multipacket broadcast message
Currently j1939_tp_im_involved_anydir() in j1939_tp_recv() check the previously
set flags J1939_ECU_LOCAL_DST and J1939_ECU_LOCAL_SRC of incoming skb, thus
multipacket broadcast message was aborted by receive side because it may come
from remote ECUs and have no exact dst address. Similarly, j1939_tp_cmd_recv()
and j1939_xtp_rx_dat() didn't process broadcast message.

So fix it by checking and process broadcast message in j1939_tp_recv(),
j1939_tp_cmd_recv() and j1939_xtp_rx_dat().

e052d05402 can: j1939: transport: j1939_xtp_rx_dat_one(): compare own packets to detect corruptions
Since the stack relays on receiving own packets, it was overwriting own
transmit buffer from received packets.

At least theoretically, the received echo buffer can be corrupt or
changed and the session partner can request to resend previous data. In
this case we will re-send bad data.

With this patch we will stop to overwrite own TX buffer and use it for
sanity checking.

Sometimes it makes no sense to search the skb by pkt.dpo, since we need
next the skb within the transaction block. This may happen if we have an
ETP session with CTS set to less than 255 packets.

After this patch, we will be able to work with ETP sessions where the
block size (ETP.CM_CTS byte 2) is less than 255 packets.

This patch adds check to ensure that the struct net_device::ml_priv is
allocated, as it is used later by the j1939 stack.

The allocation is done by all mainline CAN network drivers, but when using
bond or team devices this is not the case.

cd3b3636c9 can: j1939: transport: j1939_session_tx_dat(): fix use-after-free read in j1939_tp_txtimer()
The current stack implementation do not support ECTS requests of not
aligned TP sized blocks.

If ECTS will request a block with size and offset spanning two TP
blocks, this will cause memcpy() to read beyond the queued skb (which
does only contain one TP sized block).

Sometimes KASAN will detect this read if the memory region beyond the
skb was previously allocated and freed. In other situations it will stay
undetected. The ETP transfer in any case will be corrupted.

This patch adds a sanity check to avoid this kind of read and abort the
session with error J1939_XTP_ABORT_ECTS_TOO_BIG.

a7f7f6248d treewide: replace '---help---' in Kconfig files with 'help'
Since commit 84af7a6194 ("checkpatch: kconfig: prefer 'help' over
'---help---'"), the number of '---help---' has been gradually
decreasing, but there are still more than 2400 instances.

This commit finishes the conversion. While I touched the lines,
I also fixed the indentation.

There are a variety of indentation styles found.

  a) 4 spaces + '---help---'
  b) 7 spaces + '---help---'
  c) 8 spaces + '---help---'
  d) 1 space + 1 tab + '---help---'
  e) 1 tab + '---help---'    (correct indentation)
  f) 1 tab + 1 space + '---help---'
  g) 1 tab + 2 spaces + '---help---'

In order to convert all of them to 1 tab + 'help', I ran the
following commend:

4a15d574e6 can: j1939: warn if resources are still linked on destroy
j1939_session_destroy() and __j1939_priv_release() should be called only
if session, ecu or socket are not linked or used by any one else. If at
least one of these resources is linked, then the reference counting is
broken somewhere.

This warning will be triggered before KASAN will do, and will make it
easier to debug initial issue. This works on platforms without KASAN
support.

The j1939 authors
9d71dd0c70 can: add support of SAE J1939 protocol
SAE J1939 is the vehicle bus recommended practice used for communication
and diagnostics among vehicle components. Originating in the car and
heavy-duty truck industry in the United States, it is now widely used in
other parts of the world.

J1939, ISO 11783 and NMEA 2000 all share the same high level protocol.
SAE J1939 can be considered the replacement for the older SAE J1708 and
SAE J1587 specifications.

8df9ffb888 can: make use of preallocated can_ml_priv for per device struct can_dev_rcv_lists
This patch removes the old method of allocating the per device protocol
specific memory via a netdevice_notifier. This had the drawback, that
the allocation can fail, leading to a lot of null pointer checks in the
code. This also makes the live cycle management of this memory quite
complicated.

This patch switches from the allocating the struct can_dev_rcv_lists in
a NETDEV_REGISTER call to using the dev->ml_priv, which is allocated by
the driver since the previous patch.

ffd956eef6 can: introduce CAN midlayer private and allocate it automatically
This patch introduces the CAN midlayer private structure ("struct
can_ml_priv") which should be used to hold protocol specific per device
data structures. For now it's only member is "struct can_dev_rcv_lists".

The CAN midlayer private is allocated via alloc_netdev()'s private and
assigned to "struct net_device::ml_priv" during device creation. This is
done transparently for CAN drivers using alloc_candev(). The slcan, vcan
and vxcan drivers which are not using alloc_candev() have been adopted
manually. The memory layout of the netdev_priv allocated via
alloc_candev() will looke like this:
