cdx: add the cdx bus driver
Introduce AMD CDX bus, which provides a mechanism for scanning and probing CDX devices. These devices are memory mapped on system bus for Application Processors(APUs). CDX devices can be changed dynamically in the Fabric and CDX bus interacts with CDX controller to rescan the bus and rediscover the devices. cxl for v6.3
- CXL RAM region enumeration: instantiate 'struct cxl_region' objects for platform firmware created memory regions - CXL RAM region provisioning: complement the existing PMEM region creation support with RAM region support - "Soft Reservation" policy change: Online (memory hot-add) soft-reserved memory (EFI_MEMORY_SP) by default, but still allow for setting aside such memory for dedicated access via device-dax. - CXL Events and Interrupts: Takeover CXL event handling from platform-firmware (ACPI calls this CXL Memory Error Reporting) and export CXL Events via Linux Trace Events. - Convey CXL _OSC results to drivers: Similar to PCI, let the CXL subsystem interrogate the result of CXL _OSC negotiation. - Emulate CXL DVSEC Range Registers as "decoders": Allow for first-generation devices that pre-date the definition of the CXL HDM Decoder Capability to translate the CXL DVSEC Range Registers into 'struct cxl_decoder' objects. - Set timestamp: Per spec, set the device timestamp in case of hotplug, or if platform-firwmare failed to set it. - General fixups: linux-next build issues, non-urgent fixes for pre-production hardware, unit test fixes, spelling and debug message improvements. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iHUEABYKAB0WIQSbo+XnGs+rwLz9XGXfioYZHlFsZwUCY/WYcgAKCRDfioYZHlFs Z6m3APkBUtiEEm1o8ikdu5llUS1OTLBwqjJDwGMTyf8X/WDXhgD+J2mLsCgARS7X 5IS0RAtefutrW5sQpUucPM7QiLuraAY= =kOXC -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'cxl-for-6.3' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/cxl/cxl Pull Compute Express Link (CXL) updates from Dan Williams: "To date Linux has been dependent on platform-firmware to map CXL RAM regions and handle events / errors from devices. With this update we can now parse / update the CXL memory layout, and report events / errors from devices. This is a precursor for the CXL subsystem to handle the end-to-end "RAS" flow for CXL memory. i.e. the flow that for DDR-attached-DRAM is handled by the EDAC driver where it maps system physical address events to a field-replaceable-unit (FRU / endpoint device). In general, CXL has the potential to standardize what has historically been a pile of memory-controller-specific error handling logic. Another change of note is the default policy for handling RAM-backed device-dax instances. Previously the default access mode was "device", mmap(2) a device special file to access memory. The new default is "kmem" where the address range is assigned to the core-mm via add_memory_driver_managed(). This saves typical users from wondering why their platform memory is not visible via free(1) and stuck behind a device-file. At the same time it allows expert users to deploy policy to, for example, get dedicated access to high performance memory, or hide low performance memory from general purpose kernel allocations. This affects not only CXL, but also systems with high-bandwidth-memory that platform-firmware tags with the EFI_MEMORY_SP (special purpose) designation. Summary: - CXL RAM region enumeration: instantiate 'struct cxl_region' objects for platform firmware created memory regions - CXL RAM region provisioning: complement the existing PMEM region creation support with RAM region support - "Soft Reservation" policy change: Online (memory hot-add) soft-reserved memory (EFI_MEMORY_SP) by default, but still allow for setting aside such memory for dedicated access via device-dax. - General fixups: linux-next build issues, non-urgent fixes for pre-production hardware, unit test fixes, spelling and debug message improvements" * tag 'cxl-for-6.3' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/cxl/cxl: (66 commits) dax/kmem: Fix leak of memory-hotplug resources cxl/mem: Add kdoc param for event log driver state cxl/trace: Add serial number to trace points cxl/trace: Add host output to trace points cxl/trace: Standardize device information output cxl/pci: Remove locked check for dvsec_range_allowed() cxl/hdm: Add emulation when HDM decoders are not committed cxl/hdm: Create emulated cxl_hdm for devices that do not have HDM decoders cxl/hdm: Emulate HDM decoder from DVSEC range registers cxl/pci: Refactor cxl_hdm_decode_init() cxl/port: Export cxl_dvsec_rr_decode() to cxl_port cxl/pci: Break out range register decoding from cxl_hdm_decode_init() cxl: add RAS status unmasking for CXL cxl: remove unnecessary calling of pci_enable_pcie_error_reporting() dax/hmem: build hmem device support as module if possible dax: cxl: add CXL_REGION dependency cxl: avoid returning uninitialized error code cxl/pmem: Fix nvdimm registration races cxl/mem: Fix UAPI command comment cxl/uapi: Tag commands from cxl_query_cmd() ... |

ATA changes for 6.3-rc1
* Small cleanup of the pata_octeon driver to drop a useless platform callback, from Uwe. * Simplify ata_scsi_cmd_error_handler() code using the fact that ap->ops->error_handler is NULL most of the time, from Wenchao. * Several patches improving libata error handling. This is in preparation for supporting the command duration limits (CDL) feature. The changes allow handling corner cases of ATA NCQ errors which do not happen with regular drives but will be triggered with CDL drives. From Niklas. * Simplify the qc_fill_rtf operation, from me. * Improve SCSI command translation for the REPORT_SUPPORTED_OPERATION_CODES command, from me. * Cleanup of libata FUA handling. This falls short of enabling FUA for ATA drives that support it by default as there were concerns that old drives would break. The series howeverfixes several issues with the FUA support to ensure that FUA is reported as being supported only for drives that can handle all possible write cases (NCQ and non-NCQ). A check in the block layer is also added to ensure that we never see read FUA commands (current behavior). From me. * Several patches to move the old PARIDE (parallel port IDE) driver to libata as pata_parport. Given that this driver also needs protocol modules, the driver code resides in its own pata_parport directoy under drivers/ata. ata: pata_parport: add driver (PARIDE replacement)
The pata_parport is a libata-based replacement of the old PARIDE subsystem - driver for parallel port IDE devices. It uses the original paride low-level protocol drivers but does not need the high-level drivers (pd, pcd, pf, pt, pg). The IDE devices behind parallel port adapters are handled by the ATA layer. This will allow paride and its high-level drivers to be removed. Unfortunately, libata drivers cannot sleep so pata_parport claims parport before activating the ata host and keeps it claimed (and protocol connected) until the ata host is removed. This means that no devices can be chained (neither other pata_parport devices nor a printer). paride and pata_parport are mutually exclusive because the compiled protocol drivers are incompatible. Tested with: - Imation SuperDisk LS-120 and HP C4381A (EPAT) - Freecom Parallel CD (FRPW) - Toshiba Mobile CD-RW 2793008 w/Freecom Parallel Cable rev.903 (FRIQ) - Backpack CD-RW 222011 and CD-RW 19350 (BPCK6) The following bugs in low-level protocol drivers were found and will be fixed later: Note: EPP-32 mode is buggy in EPAT - and also in all other protocol drivers - they don't handle non-multiple-of-4 block transfers correctly. This causes problems with LS-120 drive. There is also another bug in EPAT: EPP modes don't work unless a 4-bit or 8-bit mode is used first (probably some initialization missing?). Once the device is initialized, EPP works until power cycle. So after device power on, you have to: echo "parport0 epat 0" >/sys/bus/pata_parport/new_device echo pata_parport.0 >/sys/bus/pata_parport/delete_device echo "parport0 epat 4" >/sys/bus/pata_parport/new_device (autoprobe will initialize correctly as it tries the slowest modes first but you'll get the broken EPP-32 mode) Note: EPP modes are buggy in FRPW, only modes 0 and 1 work. accel/ivpu: Introduce a new DRM driver for Intel VPU
VPU stands for Versatile Processing Unit and it's a CPU-integrated inference accelerator for Computer Vision and Deep Learning applications. The VPU device consist of following components: - Buttress - provides CPU to VPU integration, interrupt, frequency and power management. - Memory Management Unit (based on ARM MMU-600) - translates VPU to host DMA addresses, isolates user workloads. - RISC based microcontroller - executes firmware that provides job execution API for the kernel-mode driver - Neural Compute Subsystem (NCS) - does the actual work, provides Compute and Copy engines. - Network on Chip (NoC) - network fabric connecting all the components This driver supports VPU IP v2.7 integrated into Intel Meteor Lake client CPUs (14th generation). Module sources are at drivers/accel/ivpu and module name is "intel_vpu.ko". HID: Kconfig: split HID support and hid-core compilation
Currently, we step into drivers/hid/ based on the value of CONFIG_HID. However, that value is a tristate, meaning that it can be a module. As per the documentation, if we jump into the subdirectory by following an obj-m, we can not compile anything inside that subdirectory in vmlinux. It is considered as a bug. To make things more friendly to HID-BPF, split HID (the HID core parameter) from HID_SUPPORT (do we want any kind of HID support in the system?), and make this new config a boolean. Staging driver updates for 5.19-rc1
Here is the big set of staging driver updates for 5.19-rc1. Lots of forward progress happened this development cycle, one driver (wfx wireless driver) got merged into the real portion of the kernel, and another one (unisys) was removed as no one is around anymore to take care of it and no one has the hardware. Combined with loads of tiny driver cleanups overall we removed 13k lines of code from the tree, a nice improvement. Other than the wfx and unisys driver changes the major points of this merge is: - r8188eu driver cleanups. So many cleanups. It's amazing just how many things have been cleaned up here, and yet, how many remain to go. Lots of work happened here, and it doesn't look to slow down any time soon. - other wifi driver cleanups. Not as many as the r8188eu driver, but still pretty impressive from a janitorial point of view. - bcm2853 driver cleanups - other very minor driver cleanups All of these have been in the linux-next tree for weeks with no reported issues. Note, you will have a merge conflict in the drivers/net/wireless/silabs/wfx/sta.c file, please just take the change that came in from the wifi tree. We thought as I had pulled the same merge point from the wifi developers this type of conflict wouldn't have happened, but for some reason git flags it as something to pay attention to and couldn't resolve it itself. drivers: Add hardware timestamp engine (HTE) subsystem
Some devices can timestamp system lines/signals/Buses in real-time using the hardware counter or other hardware means which can give finer granularity and help avoid jitter introduced by software timestamping. To utilize such functionality, this patchset creates HTE subsystem where devices can register themselves as providers so that the consumers devices can request specific line from the providers. The patch also adds compilation support in Makefile and menu options in Kconfig. The provider does following: - Registers chip with the framework. - Provides translation hook to convert logical line id. - Provides enable/disable, request/release callbacks. - Pushes timestamp data to HTE subsystem. The consumer does following: - Initializes line attribute. - Gets HTE timestamp descriptor. - Requests timestamp functionality. - Puts HTE timestamp descriptor. PM: CXL: Disable suspend
The CXL specification claims S3 support at a hardware level, but at a system software level there are some missing pieces. Section 9.4 (CXL 2.0) rightly claims that "CXL mem adapters may need aux power to retain memory context across S3", but there is no enumeration mechanism for the OS to determine if a given adapter has that support. Moreover the save state and resume image for the system may inadvertantly end up in a CXL device that needs to be restored before the save state is recoverable. I.e. a circular dependency that is not resolvable without a third party save-area. Arrange for the cxl_mem driver to fail S3 attempts. This still nominaly allows for suspend, but requires unbinding all CXL memory devices before the suspend to ensure the typical DRAM flow is taken. The cxl_mem unbind flow is intended to also tear down all CXL memory regions associated with a given cxl_memdev. It is reasonable to assume that any device participating in a System RAM range published in the EFI memory map is covered by aux power and save-area outside the device itself. So this restriction can be minimized in the future once pre-existing region enumeration support arrives, and perhaps a spec update to clarify if the EFI memory map is sufficent for determining the range of devices managed by platform-firmware for S3 support. Per Rafael, if the CXL configuration prevents suspend then it should fail early before tasks are frozen, and mem_sleep should stop showing 'mem' as an option [1]. Effectively CXL augments the platform suspend ->valid() op since, for example, the ACPI ops are not aware of the CXL / PCI dependencies. Given the split role of platform firmware vs OS provisioned CXL memory it is up to the cxl_mem driver to determine if the CXL configuration has elements that platform firmware may not be prepared to restore. The Unisys sub-tree of drivers/staging contains three drivers for the "Unisys Secure Partition" (s-Par(R)): visorhba, visorinput, visornic. They have no maintainers, in fact the only one that is listed in MAINTAINERS has an unreacheable email address. During 2021 and 2022 several patches have been submitted to these drivers but nobody at Unisys cared of reviewing the changes. Probably, also the "sparmaintainer" internal list of unisys.com is not anymore read by interested Unisys' engineers. Therefore, remove the drivers/staging/unisys directory and delete the relevant entries in the MAINTAINERS, Kconfig, Makefile files, then remove also the drivers/visorbus directory which is not anymore needed (it contained the driver for the virtualized bus for the Unisys s-Par firmware). peci: Add core infrastructure
Intel processors provide access for various services designed to support processor and DRAM thermal management, platform manageability and processor interface tuning and diagnostics. Those services are available via the Platform Environment Control Interface (PECI) that provides a communication channel between the processor and the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) or other platform management device. This change introduces PECI subsystem by adding the initial core module and API for controller drivers. Drivers: hv: Move Hyper-V extended capability check to arch neutral code
The extended capability query code is currently under arch/x86, but it is architecture neutral, and is used by arch neutral code in the Hyper-V balloon driver. Hence the balloon driver fails to build on other architectures. Fix by moving the ext cap code out from arch/x86. Because it is also called from built-in architecture specific code, it can't be in a module, so the Makefile treats as built-in even when CONFIG_HYPERV is "m". Also drivers/Makefile is tweaked because this is the first occurrence of a Hyper-V file that is built-in even when CONFIG_HYPERV is "m". While here, update the hypercall status check to use the new helper function instead of open coding. No functional change. cxl/mem: Introduce a driver for CXL-2.0-Type-3 endpoints
The CXL.mem protocol allows a device to act as a provider of "System RAM" and/or "Persistent Memory" that is fully coherent as if the memory was attached to the typical CPU memory controller. With the CXL-2.0 specification a PCI endpoint can implement a "Type-3" device interface and give the operating system control over "Host Managed Device Memory". See section 2.3 Type 3 CXL Device. The memory range exported by the device may optionally be described by the platform firmware memory map, or by infrastructure like LIBNVDIMM to provision persistent memory capacity from one, or more, CXL.mem devices. A pre-requisite for Linux-managed memory-capacity provisioning is this cxl_mem driver that can speak the mailbox protocol defined in section 8.2.8.4 Mailbox Registers. For now just land the initial driver boiler-plate and Documentation/ infrastructure. asm-generic: cross-architecture timer cleanup
This cleans up two ancient timer features that were never completed in the past, CONFIG_GENERIC_CLOCKEVENTS and CONFIG_ARCH_USES_GETTIMEOFFSET. There was only one user left for the ARCH_USES_GETTIMEOFFSET variant of clocksource implementations, the ARM EBSA110 platform. Rather than changing to use modern timekeeping, we remove the platform entirely as Russell no longer uses his machine and nobody else seems to have one any more. The conditional code for using arch_gettimeoffset() is removed as a result. For CONFIG_GENERIC_CLOCKEVENTS, there are still a couple of platforms not using clockevent drivers: parisc, ia64, most of m68k, and one Arm platform. These all do timer ticks slighly differently, and this gets cleaned up to the point they at least all call the same helper function. Instead of most platforms using 'select GENERIC_CLOCKEVENTS' in Kconfig, the polarity is now reversed, with the few remaining ones selecting LEGACY_TIMER_TICK instead. Also do the same for Thunderbolt network driver. Signed-off-by: Mika Westerberg <mika.westerberg@linux.intel.com> Cc: David S. Staging/IIO driver patches for 5.4-rc1
Here is the big staging/iio driver update for 5.4-rc1. Lots of churn here, with a few driver/filesystems moving out of staging finally: - erofs moved out of staging - greybus core code moved out of staging Along with that, a new filesytem has been added: - extfat to provide support for those devices requiring that filesystem (i.e. transfer devices to/from windows systems or printers.) Other than that, there a number of new IIO drivers, and lots and lots and lots of staging driver cleanups and minor fixes as people continue to dig into those for easy changes. All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported issues. USB changes for 5.4-rc1
Here is the big set of USB patches for 5.4-rc1. Two major chunks of code are moving out of the tree and into the staging directory, uwb and wusb (wireless USB support), because there are no devices that actually use this protocol anymore, and what we have today probably doesn't work at all given that the maintainers left many many years ago. So move it to staging where it will be removed in a few releases if no one screams. Other than that, lots of little things. The usual gadget and xhci and usb serial driver updates, along with a bunch of sysfs file cleanups due to the driver core changes to support that. Nothing really major, just constant forward progress. All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported issues. staging: greybus: move the greybus core to drivers/greybus
The Greybus core code has been stable for a long time, and has been shipping for many years in millions of phones. With the advent of a recent Google Summer of Code project, and a number of new devices in the works from various companies, it is time to get the core greybus code out of staging as it really is going to be with us for a while. drivers: remove the SGI SN2 IOC3 base support
The IOC3 is a multi-function chip seen on SGI SN2 and some SGI MIPS systems. This removes the last bit of SN2 specific support, while the bits used by the mips ports are still around (and being substantially rewritten at the moment). fmc: Delete the FMC subsystem
The FMC subsystem was created in 2012 with the ambition to drive development of drivers for this hardware upstream. The current implementation has architectural flaws and would need to be revamped using real hardware to something that can reuse existing kernel abstractions in the subsystems for e.g. I2C, FPGA and GPIO. We have concluded that for the mainline kernel it will be better to delete the subsystem and start over with a clean slate when/if an active maintainer steps up. counter: Introduce the Generic Counter interface
This patch introduces the Generic Counter interface for supporting counter devices. In the context of the Generic Counter interface, a counter is defined as a device that reports one or more "counts" based on the state changes of one or more "signals" as evaluated by a defined "count function." Driver callbacks should be provided to communicate with the device: to read and write various Signals and Counts, and to set and get the "action mode" and "count function" for various Synapses and Counts respectively. To support a counter device, a driver must first allocate the available Counter Signals via counter_signal structures. These Signals should be stored as an array and set to the signals array member of an allocated counter_device structure before the Counter is registered to the system. Counter Counts may be allocated via counter_count structures, and respective Counter Signal associations (Synapses) made via counter_synapse structures. Associated counter_synapse structures are stored as an array and set to the the synapses array member of the respective counter_count structure. These counter_count structures are set to the counts array member of an allocated counter_device structure before the Counter is registered to the system. A counter device is registered to the system by passing the respective initialized counter_device structure to the counter_register function; similarly, the counter_unregister function unregisters the respective Counter. The devm_counter_register and devm_counter_unregister functions serve as device memory-managed versions of the counter_register and counter_unregister functions respectively.
