riscv/vdso: Move vdso data page up front
As commit 601255ae3c ("arm64: vdso: move data page before code pages"), the
same issue exists on riscv, testcase is shown below, make sure that vdso.so is
bigger than page size,

  struct timespec tp;
  clock_gettime(5, &tp);
  printf("tv_sec: %ld, tv_nsec: %ld\n", tp.tv_sec, tp.tv_nsec);

without this patch, test result : tv_sec: 0, tv_nsec: 0
   with this patch, test result : tv_sec: 1629271537, tv_nsec: 748000000

Move the vdso data page in front of the VDSO area to fix the issue.

riscv/vdso: Refactor asm/vdso.h
The asm/vdso.h will be included in vdso.lds.S in the next patch, the
following cleanup is needed to avoid syntax error:

1.the declaration of sys_riscv_flush_icache() is moved into asm/syscall.h.
2.the definition of struct vdso_data is moved into kernel/vdso.c.
2.the definition of VDSO_SYMBOL is placed under "#ifndef __ASSEMBLY__".

Also remove the redundant linux/types.h include.

adf8a61a94 kprobes: treewide: Make it harder to refer kretprobe_trampoline directly
Since now there is kretprobe_trampoline_addr() for referring the
address of kretprobe trampoline code, we don't need to access
kretprobe_trampoline directly.

Make it harder to refer by renaming it to __kretprobe_trampoline().

96fed8ac2b kprobes: treewide: Remove trampoline_address from kretprobe_trampoline_handler()
The __kretprobe_trampoline_handler() callback, called from low level
arch kprobes methods, has the 'trampoline_address' parameter, which is
entirely superfluous as it basically just replicates:

  dereference_kernel_function_descriptor(kretprobe_trampoline)

In fact we had bugs in arch code where it wasn't replicated correctly.

So remove this superfluous parameter and use kretprobe_trampoline_addr()
instead.

9c89bb8e32 kprobes: treewide: Cleanup the error messages for kprobes
This clean up the error/notification messages in kprobes related code.
Basically this defines 'pr_fmt()' macros for each files and update
the messages which describes

 - what happened,
 - what is the kernel going to do or not do,
 - is the kernel fine,
 - what can the user do about it.

Also, if the message is not needed (e.g. the function returns unique
error code, or other error message is already shown.) remove it,
and replace the message with WARN_*() macros if suitable.

316346243b Merge branch 'gcc-min-version-5.1' (make gcc-5.1 the minimum version)
Merge patch series from Nick Desaulniers to update the minimum gcc
version to 5.1.

This is some of the left-overs from the merge window that I didn't want
to deal with yesterday, so it comes in after -rc1 but was sent before.

Gcc-4.9 support has been an annoyance for some time, and with -Werror I
had the choice of applying a fairly big patch from Kees Cook to remove a
fair number of initializer warnings (still leaving some), or this patch
series from Nick that just removes the source of the problem.

The initializer cleanups might still be worth it regardless, but
honestly, I preferred just tackling the problem with gcc-4.9 head-on.
We've been more aggressiuve about no longer having to care about
compilers that were released a long time ago, and I think it's been a
good thing.

I added a couple of patches on top to sort out a few left-overs now that
we no longer support gcc-4.x.

As noted by Arnd, as a result of this minimum compiler version upgrade
we can probably change our use of '--std=gnu89' to '--std=gnu11', and
finally start using local loop declarations etc. But this series does
_not_ yet do that.

a7259df767 memblock: make memblock_find_in_range method private
There are a lot of uses of memblock_find_in_range() along with
memblock_reserve() from the times memblock allocation APIs did not exist.

memblock_find_in_range() is the very core of memblock allocations, so any
future changes to its internal behaviour would mandate updates of all the
users outside memblock.

Replace the calls to memblock_find_in_range() with an equivalent calls to
memblock_phys_alloc() and memblock_phys_alloc_range() and make
memblock_find_in_range() private method of memblock.

This simplifies the callers, ensures that (unlikely) errors in
memblock_reserve() are handled and improves maintainability of
memblock_find_in_range().

4cdc4cc2ad asm-generic changes for 5.15
The main content for 5.15 is a series that cleans up the handling of
strncpy_from_user() and strnlen_user(), removing a lot of slightly
incorrect versions of these in favor of the lib/strn*.c helpers
that implement these correctly and more efficiently.

The only architectures that retain a private version now are
mips, ia64, um and parisc. I had offered to convert those at all,
but Thomas Bogendoerfer wanted to keep the mips version for the
moment until he had a chance to do regression testing.

The branch also contains two patches for bitops and for ffs().

4b92d4add5 drivers: base: cacheinfo: Get rid of DEFINE_SMP_CALL_CACHE_FUNCTION()
DEFINE_SMP_CALL_CACHE_FUNCTION() was usefel before the CPU hotplug rework
to ensure that the cache related functions are called on the upcoming CPU
because the notifier itself could run on any online CPU.

The hotplug state machine guarantees that the callbacks are invoked on the
upcoming CPU. So there is no need to have this SMP function call
obfuscation. That indirection was missed when the hotplug notifiers were
converted.

This also solves the problem of ARM64 init_cache_level() invoking ACPI
functions which take a semaphore in that context. That's invalid as SMP
function calls run with interrupts disabled. Running it just from the
callback in context of the CPU hotplug thread solves this.

riscv: use strscpy to replace strlcpy
The strlcpy should not be used because it doesn't limit the source
length. As linus says, it's a completely useless function if you
can't implicitly trust the source string - but that is almost always
why people think they should use it! All in all the BSD function
will lead some potential bugs.

But the strscpy doesn't require reading memory from the src string
beyond the specified "count" bytes, and since the return value is
easier to error-check than strlcpy()'s. In addition, the implementation
is robust to the string changing out from underneath it, unlike the
current strlcpy() implementation.

Thus, We prefer using strscpy instead of strlcpy.

riscv: explicitly use symbol offsets for VDSO
The current implementation of the `__rt_sigaction` reference computed an
absolute offset relative to the mapped base of the VDSO. While this can
be handled in the medlow model, the medany model cannot handle this as
it is meant to be position independent. The current implementation
relied on the BFD linker relaxing the PC-relative relocation into an
absolute relocation as it was a near-zero address allowing it to be
referenced relative to `zero`.

We now extract the offsets and create a generated header allowing the
build with LLVM and lld to succeed as we no longer depend on the linker
rewriting address references near zero. This change was largely
modelled after the ARM64 target which does something similar.

riscv: Ensure the value of FP registers in the core dump file is up to date
The value of FP registers in the core dump file comes from the

riscv: Fix a number of free'd resources in init_resources()
Function init_resources() allocates a boot memory block to hold an array of
resources which it adds to iomem_resource. The array is filled in from its
end and the function then attempts to free any unused memory at the
beginning. The problem is that size of the unused memory is incorrectly
calculated and this can result in releasing memory which is in use by
active resources. Their data then gets corrupted later when the memory is
reused by a different part of the system.

Fix the size of the released memory to correctly match the number of unused
resource entries.

riscv: fix the global name pfn_base confliction error
RISCV uses a global variable pfn_base for page/pfn translation. But this
is a common name and will be used elsewhere. In those cases, the

make everything wrong.

riscv: Move early fdt mapping creation in its own function
The code that handles the early fdt mapping is hard to read and does not
create the same mapping size depending on the kernel:

- for 64-bit, 2 PMD entries are used which amounts to a 4MB mapping
- for 32-bit, 2 PGDIR entries are used which amounts to a 8MB mapping

So keep using 2 PMD entries for 64-bit and use only one PGD entry for
32-bit needed to cover 4MB. Move that into a new function called

52cc02b910 kbuild: check CONFIG_AS_IS_LLVM instead of LLVM_IAS
LLVM_IAS is the user interface to set the -(no-)integrated-as flag,
and it should be used only for that purpose.

LLVM_IAS is checked in some places to determine the assembler type,
but it is not precise.

For example,

 $ make CC=gcc LLVM_IAS=1

... will use the GNU assembler (i.e. binutils) since LLVM_IAS=1 is
effective only when $(CC) is clang.

Of course, 'CC=gcc LLVM_IAS=1' is an odd combination, but the build
system can be more robust against such insane input.

Commit ba64beb174 ("kbuild: check the minimum assembler version in
Kconfig") introduced CONFIG_AS_IS_GNU/LLVM, which is more precise
because Kconfig checks the version string from the assembler in use.

riscv: Get rid of CONFIG_PHYS_RAM_BASE in kernel physical address conversion
The usage of CONFIG_PHYS_RAM_BASE for all kernel types was a mistake:
this value is implementation-specific and this breaks the genericity of
the RISC-V kernel.

Fix this by introducing a new variable phys_ram_base that holds this
value at runtime and use it in the kernel physical address conversion
macro. Since this value is used only for XIP kernels, evaluate it only if
CONFIG_XIP_KERNEL is set which in addition optimizes this macro for
standard kernels at compile-time.

e6226997ec asm-generic: reverse GENERIC_{STRNCPY_FROM,STRNLEN}_USER symbols
Most architectures do not need a custom implementation, and in most
cases the generic implementation is preferred, so change the polariy
on these Kconfig symbols to require architectures to select them when
they provide their own version.

The new name is CONFIG_ARCH_HAS_{STRNCPY_FROM,STRNLEN}_USER.

The remaining architectures at the moment are: ia64, mips, parisc,
um and xtensa. We should probably convert these as well, but
I was not sure how far to take this series. Thomas Bogendoerfer
had some concerns about converting mips but may still do some
more detailed measurements to see which version is better.

f5e81d1117 bpf: Introduce BPF nospec instruction for mitigating Spectre v4
In case of JITs, each of the JIT backends compiles the BPF nospec instruction
/either/ to a machine instruction which emits a speculation barrier /or/ to
/no/ machine instruction in case the underlying architecture is not affected
by Speculative Store Bypass or has different mitigations in place already.

This covers both x86 and (implicitly) arm64: In case of x86, we use 'lfence'
instruction for mitigation. In case of arm64, we rely on the firmware mitigation
as controlled via the ssbd kernel parameter. Whenever the mitigation is enabled,
it works for all of the kernel code with no need to provide any additional
instructions here (hence only comment in arm64 JIT). Other archs can follow
as needed. The BPF nospec instruction is specifically targeting Spectre v4
since i) we don't use a serialization barrier for the Spectre v1 case, and
ii) mitigation instructions for v1 and v4 might be different on some archs.

The BPF nospec is required for a future commit, where the BPF verifier does
annotate intermediate BPF programs with speculation barriers.

98b861a304 asm-generic: uaccess: remove inline strncpy_from_user/strnlen_user
The inline version is used on three NOMMU architectures and is
particularly inefficient when it scans the string one byte at a time
twice. It also lacks a check for user_addr_max(), but this is
probably ok on NOMMU targets.

Consolidate the asm-generic implementation with the library version
that is used everywhere else. This version is generalized enough to
work efficiently on both MMU and NOMMU targets, and using the
same code everywhere reduces the potential for subtle bugs.

Mark the prototypes as __must_check in the process.

The reason is the task is NULL when we finally call walk_stackframe()
the NULL is passed from __dump_stack():

|static void __dump_stack(void)

|        show_stack(NULL, NULL, KERN_DEFAULT);

Merge remote-tracking branch 'riscv/riscv-fix-32bit' into fixes
This contains a single fix for 32-bit boot. It happens this was already
fixed by c9811e379b ("riscv: Add mem kernel parameter support"), but
the bug existed before that feature addition so I've applied the patch

8633ef82f1 drivers/firmware: consolidate EFI framebuffer setup for all arches
The register_gop_device() function registers an "efi-framebuffer" platform
device to match against the efifb driver, to have an early framebuffer for
EFI platforms.

But there is already support to do exactly the same by the Generic System
Framebuffers (sysfb) driver. This used to be only for X86 but it has been
moved to drivers/firmware and could be reused by other architectures.

Also, besides supporting registering an "efi-framebuffer", this driver can
register a "simple-framebuffer" allowing to use the siple{fb,drm} drivers
on non-X86 EFI platforms. For example, on aarch64 these drivers can only
be used with DT and doesn't have code to register a "simple-frambuffer"
platform device when booting with EFI.

For these reasons, let's remove the register_gop_device() duplicated code
and instead move the platform specific logic that's there to sysfb driver.

riscv: __asm_copy_to-from_user: Optimize unaligned memory access and pipeline stall
This patch will reduce cpu usage dramatically in kernel space especially
for application which use sys-call with large buffer size, such as
network applications. The main reason behind this is that every
unaligned memory access will raise exceptions and switch between s-mode
and m-mode causing large overhead.

First copy in bytes until reaches the first word aligned boundary in
destination memory address. This is the preparation before the bulk
aligned word copy.

The destination address is aligned now, but oftentimes the source
address is not in an aligned boundary. To reduce the unaligned memory
access, it reads the data from source in aligned boundaries, which will
cause the data to have an offset, and then combines the data in the next
iteration by fixing offset with shifting before writing to destination.
The majority of the improving copy speed comes from this shift copy.

In the lucky situation that the both source and destination address are
on the aligned boundary, perform load and store with register size to
copy the data. Without the unrolling, it will reduce the speed since the
next store instruction for the same register using from the load will
stall the pipeline.

At last, copying the remainder in one byte at a time.

riscv: add VMAP_STACK overflow detection
This patch adds stack overflow detection to riscv, usable when
CONFIG_VMAP_STACK=y.

Overflow is detected in kernel exception entry(kernel/entry.S), if the
kernel stack is overflow and been detected, the overflow handler is
invoked on a per-cpu overflow stack. This approach preserves GPRs and
the original exception information.

The overflow detect is performed before any attempt is made to access
the stack and the principle of stack overflow detection: kernel stacks
are aligned to double their size, enabling overflow to be detected with
a single bit test. For example, a 16K stack is aligned to 32K, ensuring
that bit 14 of the SP must be zero. On an overflow (or underflow), this
bit is flipped. Thus, overflow (of less than the size of the stack) can
be detected by testing whether this bit is set.

This gives us a useful error message on stack overflow, as can be
trigger with the LKDTM overflow test:

1c2f7d14d8 mm/thp: define default pmd_pgtable()
Currently most platforms define pmd_pgtable() as pmd_page() duplicating
the same code all over. Instead just define a default value i.e
pmd_page() for pmd_pgtable() and let platforms override when required via
<asm/pgtable.h>. All the existing platform that override pmd_pgtable()
have been moved into their respective <asm/pgtable.h> header in order to
precede before the new generic definition. This makes it much cleaner
with reduced code.

riscv: Map the kernel with correct permissions the first time
For 64-bit kernels, we map all the kernel with write and execute
permissions and afterwards remove writability from text and executability
from data.

For 32-bit kernels, the kernel mapping resides in the linear mapping, so we
map all the linear mapping as writable and executable and afterwards we
remove those properties for unused memory and kernel mapping as
described above.

Change this behavior to directly map the kernel with correct permissions
and avoid going through the whole mapping to fix the permissions.

At the same time, this fixes an issue introduced by commit 2bfc6cd81b
("riscv: Move kernel mapping outside of linear mapping") as reported
here https://github.com/starfive-tech/linux/issues/17.

54a728dc5e Scheduler udpates for this cycle:
- Changes to core scheduling facilities:

     - Add "Core Scheduling" via CONFIG_SCHED_CORE=y, which enables
coordinated scheduling across SMT siblings. This is a much
requested feature for cloud computing platforms, to allow
the flexible utilization of SMT siblings, without exposing
untrusted domains to information leaks & side channels, plus
to ensure more deterministic computing performance on SMT
       systems used by heterogenous workloads.

There's new prctls to set core scheduling groups, which
allows more flexible management of workloads that can share
       siblings.

     - Fix task->state access anti-patterns that may result in missed
wakeups and rename it to ->__state in the process to catch new
       abuses.

  - Load-balancing changes:

Pull scheduler udpates from Ingo Molnar:

 - Changes to core scheduling facilities:

    - Add "Core Scheduling" via CONFIG_SCHED_CORE=y, which enables
coordinated scheduling across SMT siblings. This is a much
requested feature for cloud computing platforms, to allow the
flexible utilization of SMT siblings, without exposing untrusted
domains to information leaks & side channels, plus to ensure more
deterministic computing performance on SMT systems used by
      heterogenous workloads.

There are new prctls to set core scheduling groups, which allows
more flexible management of workloads that can share siblings.

    - Fix task->state access anti-patterns that may result in missed
wakeups and rename it to ->__state in the process to catch new
      abuses.

 - Load-balancing changes:

    - Tweak newidle_balance for fair-sched, to improve 'memcache'-like

After some investigation, I think I found the root cause: commit
2bfc6cd81b ("move kernel mapping outside of linear mapping") moves
BPF JIT region after the kernel:

| #define BPF_JIT_REGION_START	PFN_ALIGN((unsigned long)&_end)

The &_end is unlikely aligned with PMD size, so the front bpf jit
region sits with part of kernel .data section in one PMD size mapping.
But kernel is mapped in PMD SIZE, when bpf_jit_binary_lock_ro() is
called to make the first bpf jit prog ROX, we will make part of kernel
.data section RO too, so when we write to, for example memset the
.data section, MMU will trigger a store page fault.

To fix the issue, we need to ensure the BPF JIT region is PMD size
aligned. This patch acchieve this goal by restoring the BPF JIT region
to original position, I.E the 128MB before kernel .text section. The
modification to kasan_init.c is inspired by Alexandre.

riscv: kasan: Fix MODULES_VADDR evaluation due to local variables' name
commit 2bfc6cd81b ("riscv: Move kernel mapping outside of linear
mapping") makes use of MODULES_VADDR to populate kernel, BPF, modules
mapping. Currently, MODULES_VADDR is defined as below for RV64:

| #define MODULES_VADDR (PFN_ALIGN((unsigned long)&_end) - SZ_2G)

But kasan_init() has two local variables which are also named as _start,
_end, so MODULES_VADDR is evaluated with the local variable _end
rather than the global "_end" as we expected. Fix this issue by
renaming the two local variables.

2e38eb04c9 kprobes: Do not increment probe miss count in the fault handler
Kprobes has a counter 'nmissed', that is used to count the number of
times a probe handler was not called. This generally happens when we hit
a kprobe while handling another kprobe.

However, if one of the probe handlers causes a fault, we are currently
incrementing 'nmissed'. The comment in fault handler indicates that this
can be used to account faults taken by the probe handlers. But, this has
never been the intention as is evident from the comment above 'nmissed'
in 'struct kprobe':

/*count the number of times this probe was temporarily disarmed */
	unsigned long nmissed;

riscv: mm: Fix W+X mappings at boot
When the kernel mapping was moved the last 2GB of the address space,
(__va(PFN_PHYS(max_low_pfn))) is much smaller than the .data section
start address, the last set_memory_nx() in protect_kernel_text_data()
will fail, thus the .data section is still mapped as W+X. This results
in below W+X mapping waring at boot. Fix it by passing the correct
.data section page num to the set_memory_nx().

ec6aba3d2b kprobes: Remove kprobe::fault_handler
The reason for kprobe::fault_handler(), as given by their comment:

 * We come here because instructions in the pre/post
 * handler caused the page_fault, this could happen
 * if handler tries to access user space by
 * copy_from_user(), get_user() etc. Let the
 * user-specified handler try to fix it first.

Is just plain bad. Those other handlers are ran from non-preemptible
context and had better use _nofault() functions. Also, there is no
upstream usage of this.
