Due to clocking changes in the Skylake platform, there was i219
data corruption. To work around this, HW team reported the need
to increase the minimum gap between the PHY FIFO read and write pointers.

In i219, there is a hardware bug that prevented ULP entry.
A side effect of the original software fix for this was that EEE in
Sx couldn't be enabled.
This patch implements a modified flow that allows both ULP and EEE in Sx.

On power up, the MAC - PHY interface needs to be set to PCIe, even if
cable is disconnected. In ME systems, the ME handles this on exit from
Sx state. In non-ME, the driver handles it. Added a check for non-ME
system to the driver code that handles that.

e1000e_disable_aspm called pci_disable_link_state_locked which requires
pci_bus_sem to be held, but is also called from places where this semaphore
was not previously acquired. This patch implements two flavors of
disable_aspm, one that acquires the lock, and the other (_locked) which
should be called when the semaphore is already acquired.

System would hang during execution of "ethtool -t <NIC>" for the same
reason that required flushing the descriptor rings. This fix disables
MULR for the loopback test to avoid the hang state.

The condition under which the flush should occur was reversed. The fix
should be applied before any HW reset (unless followed by bus reset)
and before any power state transition from D0.
If E1000_FEXTNVM7_NEED_DESCRING_FLUSH bit is set in FEXTNVM7 and TDLEN > 0
the Tx ring should be flushed. (fixes ~95% of the hang states).
If the E1000_FEXTNVM7_NEED_DESCRING_FLUSH did not clear, we should also
flush the RX ring. Bug was caught by Alexander Duyck during a code review
when examining this fix.

After testing various cases, the conclusion is that the fix MUST be
executed BEFORE any event that the HW is reset or transition to D3.
To fix that I moved the execution to the relevant places but per
Alexander Duyck's review, ensure now that the DMA is valid and was not
freed before manipulating the ring.

Unit hang may occur if multiple descriptors are available in the rings
during reset or runtime suspend. This state can be detected by testing
bit 8 in the FEXTNVM7 register. If this bit is set and there are pending
descriptors in one of the rings, we must flush them prior to reset. Same
applies entering runtime suspend.

Four minor merge conflicts:
1) qca_spi.c renamed the local variable used for the SPI device
from spi_device to spi, meanwhile the spi_set_drvdata() call
got moved further up in the probe function.
2) Two changes were both adding new members to codel params
structure, and thus we had overlapping changes to the
initializer function.
3) 'net' was making a fix to sk_release_kernel() which is
completely removed in 'net-next'.
4) In net_namespace.c, the rtnl_net_fill() call for GET operations
had the command value fixed, meanwhile 'net-next' adjusted the
argument signature a bit.
This also matches example merge resolutions posted by Stephen
Rothwell over the past two days.

We were using s64 for lat_ns (latency nano-second value) since in
our calculations a negative value could be a resultant. For negative
values, we then assign lat_ns to be zero, so the value passed to
do_div() was never negative, but do_div() expects the argument type
to be u64, so do a cast to resolve a compile warning seen on
PowerPC.

The driver wasn't allowing jumbo frames to be
enabled when CRC stripping was disabled, however it was allowing CRC
stripping to be disabled while jumbo frames were enabled. This fixes that by
making it so that the NETIF_F_RXFCS flag cannot be set when jumbo frames are
enabled on 82579 and newer parts.

When the VLAN_HLEN was added to the calculation for the maximum frame size
there seems to have been a number of issues added to the driver.
The first issue is that in some cases the maximum frame size for a device
never really reached the actual maximum frame size as the VLAN header
length was not included the calculation for that value. As a result some
parts only supported a maximum frame size of either 1496 in the case of
parts that didn't support jumbo frames, and 8996 in the case of the parts
that do.
The second issue is the fact that there were several checks that weren't
updated so as a result setting an MTU of 1500 was treated as enabling jumbo
frames as the calculated value was 1522 instead of 1518. I have addressed
those by replacing ETH_FRAME_LEN with VLAN_ETH_FRAME_LEN where appropriate.
The final issue was the fact that lowering the MTU below 1500 would cause
the driver to allocate 2K buffers for the rings. This is an old issue that
was fixed several years ago in igb/ixgbe and I am addressing now by just
replacing == with a <= so that we always just round up to 1522 for anything
that isn't a jumbo frame.

Fixed two warnings in e1000e and igb, when switching to timespec64
some printf formats started to not match. In theses cases actually
the new type is __kernel_time_t which is __kernel_long_t which
unfortunately can be either "long" or "long long". So to solve

The call to e1000e_write_protect_nvm_ich8lan() is no longer supported by HW.
Access to these registers causes a system freeze in A step hardware and is
ignored in B step hardware. This function must not be called in hardware
newer than LPT.

When bringing down an interface netif_carrier_off() should be
one the first things we do, since this will prevent the stack
from queuing more packets to this interface.
This operation is very fast, and should make the device behave
much nicer when trying to bring down an interface under load.
Also, this would Do The Right Thing (TM) if this device has some
sort of fail-over teaming and redirect traffic to the other IF.
Move netif_carrier_off as early as possible.

With the Intel 82527EI (driver: e1000e) there is an issue when running
the ptpd2 program, that leads to a kernel oops. The reason is here that
in e1000_xmit_frame() a work queue will be scheduled that has not been
initialized in this case. The work queue "tx_hwstamp_work" will only be
initialized if adapter->flags & FLAG_HAS_HW_TIMESTAMP set. This check
is missing in e1000_xmit_frame().
The following patch adds the missing check.

This change replaces calls to netdev_alloc_skb_ip_align with
napi_alloc_skb. The advantage of napi_alloc_skb is currently the fact that
the page allocation doesn't make use of any irq disable calls.
There are few spots where I couldn't replace the calls as the buffer
allocation routine is called as a part of init which is outside of the
softirq context.

Update the Intel Ethernet drivers to use eth_skb_pad() and skb_put_padto
instead of doing their own implementations of the function.
Also this cleans up two other spots where skb_pad was called but the length

After commit b2b49ccbdd (PM: Kconfig: Set PM_RUNTIME if PM_SLEEP is
selected) PM_RUNTIME is always set if PM is set, so #ifdef blocks
depending on CONFIG_PM_RUNTIME within #ifdef blocks depending on

This device claims TSO support for vlans. It also allows a
user to control vlan acceleration offloading. As such, it is
possible to turn off vlan acceleration and configure a vlan
which will continue to support TSO.
In such situation the packet passed down the the device will contain
a vlan header and skb->protocol will be set to ETH_P_8021Q.
The device assumes that skb->protocol contains network protocol
value and uses that value to set up TSO information. This results
in corrupted frames sent on the wire. Corruptions include
incorrect IP total length and invalid IP checksum.
This patch extract the protocol value correctly and corrects TSO
for non-accelerated traffic.

Adding a function, and associated calls, to flush writes to (read) the LPIC
MAC register before entering the shutdown flow. This fixes the problem

The process of shutting down the system causes a call to the close PM
callback. The reset in close causes a loss of link, and the resultant
LSC interrupt causes the Runtime PM idle callback to be called. The
check for link (while link is down) in the idle callback is wiping the
information about the EEE ability of the link partner. The information is
still gone when the PHY is powered back up in the shutdown flow. This
causes EEE in S5 to fail when Runtime PM is active.
Save the link partner's EEE ability in the idle callback so that a Runtime
PM event will not cause a loss of this information.

On I217 and newer hardware, EEE is enabled in the PHY by the software
when link is up and disabled by the hardware when link is lost.
To enable EEE in Sx (When both ends of the link support, and are enabled
for, EEE and 100Mbps), we need to disable LPLU and configure the PHY to
automatically enable EEE when link is up, since there will be no software
to complete the task.
To configure this in the PHY, the Auto Enable LPI bit in the Low Power
Idle GPIO Control register must be set. For normal operation in S0, this
bit must be cleared.

Previously, the update_phy_task was only calling e1000_set_eee_pchlan()
for phy.type 82579. This patch is to cause this function to be called
for 82579 and newer phy.types. This causes the dev_spec->eee_lp_ability
to have the correct value when going into SX states.

Previously, the check to turn on promiscuous mode only took into account
the total number of SHared Receive Address (SHRA) registers and if the
request was for a register within that range. It is possible that the
Management Engine might have locked a number of SHRA and not allowed a
new address to be written to the requested register.
Add a function to determine the number of unlocked SHRA registers. Then
determine if the number of registers available is sufficient for our needs,
if not then return -ENOMEM so that UNICAST PROMISC mode is activated.
Since the method by which ME claims SHRA registers is non-deterministic,
also add a return value to the function attempting to write an address
to a SHRA, and return a -E1000_ERR_CONFIG if the write fails. The error
will be passed up the function chain and allow the driver to also set
UNICAST PROMISC when this happens.

The netlink conflict dealt with moving to netlink_capable() and

It has been determined that the workaround of putting the PHY into MDIO
slow mode to access the PHY id is not necessary with Lynx Point and newer
parts. The issue that necessitated the workaround has been fixed on the
newer hardware.
We will maintains, as a last ditch attempt, the conversion to MDIO Slow
Mode in the failure branch when attempting to access the PHY id so as to
cover all contingencies.

Several customers have reported a link flap issue on 82579. The symptoms
are random and intermittent link losses when 82579 is connected to specific
link partners. Issue has been root caused as interoperability problem
between 82579 and at least some Broadcom PHYs in the Energy Efficient
Ethernet wake mechanism.
To fix the issue, we are disabling the Phase Locked Loop shutdown in 100M
Low Power Idle. This solution will cause an increase of power in 100M EEE
link. It will cost additional 28mW in this specific mode.

In commit 772d05c51c "e1000e: slow performance
between two 82579 connected via 10Mbit hub", a workaround was put into place
to address the overaggressive transmit behavior of 82579 parts when connecting
at 10Mbs half-duplex.
This same behavior is seen on i217 and i218 parts as well. This patch expands
the original workaround to encompass these parts.

This is a workaround for a HW erratum on 82579 devices.
Erratum is #23 in Intel 6 Series Chipset and Intel C200 Series Chipset
specification Update June 2013.
Problem: 82579 parts experience packet loss in Gig and 100 speeds
when interconnect between PHY and MAC is exiting K1 power saving state.
This was previously believed to only affect 1Gig speed, but has been observed
at 100Mbs also.
Workaround: Disable K1 for 82579 devices at Gig and 100 speeds.

When changing the interface mtu, the driver starts with a value
that doesn't include VLAN_HLEN. Later tests in the driver
set the rx_buffer_len based on the mtu. As a result, when
the user increases the mtu to 1504 (to support 802.1AD for example),
the driver rx_buffer_len does not change and frames longer
the 1522 bytes are rejected as too long.
Include VLAN_HLEN from the start so that an user mtu greater then
1500 bytes is correctly reflected in the driver rx_buffer_len.

In commit da1e2046e5, the flow for enabling/disabling an Si errata
workaround (e1000_lv_jumbo_workaround_ich8lan) was changed to fix a problem
with iAMT connections dropping on interface down with jumbo frames set.
Part of this change was to move the function call disabling the workaround
to e1000e_down() from the e1000_setup_rctl() function. The mechanic for
disabling of this workaround involves writing several MAC and PHY registers
back to hardware defaults.
After this commit, when the driver is loaded with the cable out, the PHY
registers are not programmed with the correct default values. This causes
the device to be capable of transmitting packets, but is unable to recieve
them until this workaround is called.
The flow of e1000e's open code relies upon calling the above workaround to
expicitly program these registers either with jumbo frame appropriate settings
or h/w defaults on 82579 and newer hardware.
Fix this issue by adding logic to e1000_setup_rctl() that not only calls
e1000_lv_jumbo_workaround_ich8lan() when jumbo frames are set, to enable the
workaround, but also calls this function to explicitly disable the workaround
in the case that jumbo frames are not set.

- when hardware time stamping is not enabled
- when time stamp is requested shortly after ifup
Timeout time stamp reading work to prevent it from
scheduling itself indefinitely. Report timeout events

The check for pending Tx work when link is lost was mistakenly moved to be
done only when link is first detected to be lost. It turns out there is a
small window of opportunity for additional Tx work to get queued up shortly
after link is dropped.
Move the check back to the place it was before in the watchdog task. Put in
additional debug information for other reset paths and a final catch-all for
false hangs in the scheduled function that prints out the hardware hang
message.

Previous commit c3a0dce35a fixed an overrun for the RAR on i218 devices.
This commit also attempted to homogenize the RAR/SHRA access for all parts
accessed by the e1000e driver. This change introduced an error for
assigning MAC addresses to guest OS's for 82579 devices.
Only RAR[0] is accessible to the driver for 82579 parts, and additional
addresses must be placed into the SHRA[L|H] registers. The rar_entry_count
was changed in the previous commit to an inaccurate value that accounted
for all RAR and SHRA registers, not just the ones usable by the driver.
This patch fixes the count to the correct value and adjusts the
e1000_rar_set_pch2lan() function to user the correct index.

Valid values for InterruptThrottleRate are 10-100000, or one of
0, 1, 3, 4. '2' is not valid. This is a legacy from the branching
from the e1000 driver code that e1000e was based from.
Prior to this patch, if the e1000e driver was loaded with a forced
invalid InterruptThrottleRate of '2', then no throttle rate would be
set and no error message generated.
Now, a message will be generated that an invalid value was used and the
value for InterruptThrottleRate will be set to the default value.

ULP is a power saving feature that reduces the power consumption of the
PHY when a cable is not connected.
ULP is gated on the following conditions:
1) The hardware must support ULP. Currently this is only I218
devices from Intel
2) ULP is initiated by the driver, so, no driver results in no ULP.
3) ULP's implementation utilizes Runtime Power Management to toggle its
execution. ULP is enabled/disabled based on the state of Runtime PM.
4) ULP is not active when wake-on-unicast, multicast or broadcast is active
as these features are mutually-exclusive.
Since the PHY is in an unavailable state while ULP is active, any access
of the PHY registers will fail. This is resolved by utilizing kernel
calls that cause the device to exit Runtime PM (e.g. pm_runtime_get_sync)
and then, after PHY access is complete, allow the device to resume
Runtime PM (e.g. pm_runtime_put_sync).
Under certain conditions, toggling the LANPHYPC is necessary to disable
ULP mode. Break out existing code to toggle LANPHYPC to a new function
to avoid code duplication.

Refactor the system power management flows to prevent the suspend path from
being executed twice when hibernating since both the freeze and
poweroff callbacks were set to e1000_suspend() via SET_SYSTEM_SLEEP_PM_OPS.
There are HW workarounds that are performed during this flow and calling
them twice was causing erroneous behavior.
Re-arrange the code to take advantage of common code paths and explicitly
set the individual dev_pm_ops callbacks for suspend, resume, freeze,
thaw, poweroff and restore.
Add a boolean parameter (reset) to the e1000e_down function to allow
for cases when the HW should not be reset when downed during a PM event.
Now that all suspend/shutdown paths result in a call to __e1000_shutdown()
that checks Wake on Lan status, removing redundant check for WoL in
e1000_power_down_phy().

issues with some switches.
Remove EEE enablement for 82579 parts from the link initialization flow to
avoid initializing too early. EEE initialization for 82579 will be done
in e1000e_update_phy_task.

On a ME enabled system with the cable out, the driver init flow would
generate an erroneous message indicating that resets were being blocked
by an active ME session. Cause was ME clearing the semaphore bit to
block further PHY resets for up to 50 msec during power-on/cycle. After
this interval, ME would re-set the bit and allow PHY resets.
To resolve this, change the flow of e1000e_phy_hw_reset_generic() to
utilize a delay and retry method. Poll the FWSM register to minimize
any extra time added to the flow. If the delay times out at 100ms
(checked in 10msec increments), then return the value E1000_BLK_PHY_RESET,
as this is the accurate state of the PHY. Attempting to alter just the
call to e1000e_phy_hw_reset_generic() in e1000_init_phy_workarounds_pchlan()
just caused the problem to move further down the flow.

As result of deprecation of MSI-X/MSI enablement functions
pci_enable_msix() and pci_enable_msi_block() all drivers
using these two interfaces need to be updated to use the

Commit 7509963c70 (e1000e: Fix a compile flag mis-match for
suspend/resume) moved suspend and resume hooks to be available when
CONFIG_PM is set. However, it can be set even if CONFIG_PM_SLEEP is not set
causing following warnings to be emitted:

This patch addresses a mis-match between the declaration and usage of
the e1000_suspend and e1000_resume functions. Previously, these
functions were declared in a CONFIG_PM_SLEEP wrapper, and then utilized
within a CONFIG_PM wrapper. Both the declaration and usage will now be
contained within CONFIG_PM wrappers.

This patch is to fix a compiler warning of maybe-uininitialized-variable
that is generated from gcc when the -O3 flag is used. In the function
e1000_reset_hw_80003es2lan(), the variable krmn_reg_data is first given
a value by being passed to a register read function as a
pass-by-reference parameter. But, the return value of that read
function was never checked to see if the read failed and the variable
not given an initial value. The compiler was smart enough to spot
this. This patch is to check the return value for that read function
and return it, if an error occurs, without trying to utilize the value
in kmrn_reg_data.

This patch is to fix a compiler warning of __bad_udelay due to a value
of >999 being passed as a parameter to udelay() in the function
e1000e_phy_has_link_generic(). This affects the gcc compiler when
it is given a flag of -O3 and the icc compiler.
This patch is also making the change from mdelay() to msleep() in the
same function, since it was determined though code inspection that this
function is never called in atomic context.

1) Johannes Berg noticed two major deficiencies in our genetlink
registration. Some genetlink protocols we passing in constant
counts for their ops array rather than something like
ARRAY_SIZE(ops) or similar. Also, some genetlink protocols were
using fixed IDs for their multicast groups.
We have to retain these fixed IDs to keep existing userland tools
working, but reserve them so that other multicast groups used by
other protocols can not possibly conflict.
In dealing with these two problems, we actually now use less state
management for genetlink operations and multicast groups.
2) When configuring interface hardware timestamping, fix several
drivers that simply do not validate that the hwtstamp_config value
is one the driver actually supports. From Ben Hutchings.
3) Invalid memory references in mwifiex driver, from Amitkumar Karwar.
4) In dev_forward_skb(), set the skb->protocol in the right order
relative to skb_scrub_packet(). From Alexei Starovoitov.
5) Bridge erroneously fails to use the proper wrapper functions to make
calls to netdev_ops->ndo_vlan_rx_{add,kill}_vid. Fix from Toshiaki
Makita.
6) When detaching a bridge port, make sure to flush all VLAN IDs to

7) Put in a compromise for TCP Small Queues so that deep queued devices
that delay TX reclaim non-trivially don't have such a performance

e1000e_hwtstamp_ioctl() should validate all fields of hwtstamp_config
before making any changes. Currently it copies the configuration to
the e1000_adapter structure before validating it at all.
Change e1000e_config_hwtstamp() to take a pointer to the
hwstamp_config and to copy the config after validating it.
Compile-tested only.

Pull DMA mask updates from Russell King:
"This series cleans up the handling of DMA masks in a lot of drivers,
fixing some bugs as we go.
Some of the more serious errors include:
- drivers which only set their coherent DMA mask if the attempt to
set the streaming mask fails.
- drivers which test for a NULL dma mask pointer, and then set the
dma mask pointer to a location in their module .data section -
which will cause problems if the module is reloaded.
To counter these, I have introduced two helper functions:
- dma_set_mask_and_coherent() takes care of setting both the
streaming and coherent masks at the same time, with the correct
error handling as specified by the API.
- dma_coerce_mask_and_coherent() which resolves the problem of
drivers forcefully setting DMA masks. This is more a marker for
future work to further clean these locations up - the code which
creates the devices really should be initialising these, but to fix
that in one go along with this change could potentially be very
disruptive.
The last thing this series does is prise away some of Linux's addition
to "DMA addresses are physical addresses and RAM always starts at
zero". We have ARM LPAE systems where all system memory is above 4GB
physical, hence having DMA masks interpreted by (eg) the block layers
as describing physical addresses in the range 0..DMAMASK fails on
these platforms. Santosh Shilimkar addresses this in this series; the
patches were copied to the appropriate people multiple times but were
ignored.
Fixing this also gets rid of some ARM weirdness in the setup of the
max*pfn variables, and brings ARM into line with every other Linux
architecture as far as those go"

There are a mix of function prototypes with and without extern
in the kernel sources. Standardize on not using extern for
function prototypes.
Function prototypes don't need to be written with extern.
extern is assumed by the compiler. Its use is as unnecessary as
using auto to declare automatic/local variables in a block.

When copying the MAC RAR registers to PHY there is an error in the
calculation of the rar_entry_count, which causes a write of unknown/
undefined register space in the MAC to unknown/undefined register space in
the PHY.
This patch fixes the overrun with writing to the PHY RAR and also fixes the
ethtool offline register tests so that the correctly addressed registers
have the appropriate bitmasks for R/W and RO bits for affected parts.
Shawn Rader gets credit for finding and fixing the register overrun.

While doing shutdown on the PCI device, the corresponding callback
function e1000e_shutdown() is trying to clear those correctable
errors on the upstream P2P bridge. Unfortunately, we don't have
the upstream P2P bridge under some cases (e.g. PCI-passthrou for
KVM on Power). That leads to kernel crash eventually.
The patch adds one more check on that to avoid kernel crash.

This patch attempts to work around a problem found with some systems where
the call to pci_diable_link_state_locked() fails. As a result, ASPM is not,
in fact, disabled. Changing disable ASPM code to check if state actually
is disabled after the call and, if not, try another way to disable it.

The initialization of the PHY on I217/I218, while similar to 82579, must
also check to see if the MAC and PHY are in the same mode (PCIe vs. SMBus)
otherwise the PHY will be inaccessible by the MAC.

When the device is runtime suspended (e.g. when there is no link), do not
wake it from D3 to read the PHY status; just set the values to typical
power-on defaults as is done when runtime PM is not enabled and there is no
link.

A previous patch (commit e60b22c5b7 e1000e: fix accessing to suspended
device) added .begin and .complete ethtool driver callbacks so that the
device was resumed from Runtime Power Management (RPM) suspend state for
all ethtool operations. This is overkill for operations which do not need
to access any registers in the device. This patch makes it so that the
device is taken out of RPM suspend only for those ethtool operations that
must access device registers.

Tx hang is an unintended consequence of another workaround that is in the
EEPROM for an issue with the firmware at 10Mbps when K1 (a power mode of
the MAC-PHY interconnect) is enabled. The issue is resolved by setting
appropriate Tx re-transmission timeouts in the PHY and associated K1 entry
times in the MAC to allow enough transmissions to occur without triggering
a Tx hang. A similar change is needed when linked at 10Mbps to improve
latency.

The jumbo frame configuration in the MAC/PHY should be reverted on 82579
and newer parts when the interface is brought down (not just when the MTU
is changed back to standard frame size) otherwise iAMT connections (e.g.
SoL, IDE-R) will be dropped and cannot be re-acquired until the MTU is
changed again.

The 82583 can disappear off the PCIe bus. This device is a modified 82574
which had the same problem which was fixed by disabling ASPM L1; disabling
it on 82583 fixes the issue on this device.

In structure e1000_rx_desc_packet_split, the size of wb.upper.length is
defined by a digit. This may introduce some problem when the length is
changed.
This patch use the macro PS_PAGE_BUFFERS for the definition. And move the
definition to hw.h.

tx_ring/rx_ring size is assigned in function e1000_alloc_queues(), which is
called by e1000_sw_init() in the early stage of e1000_probe().

In attempting to resolve a minor merge conflict, commit e5f2ef7ab4
(Merge git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/davem/net) accidentally
dropped a call to pci_clear_master() that was intended to remain in place.
Commit 4e0855dff0 (e1000e: fix pci-device enable-counter balance)
replaced a call to pci_disable_device() by one to pci_clear_master(). And then
commit 66148babe7 (e1000e: fix runtime power management transitions)
deleted a number of lines starting two lines following that call.
This patch restores the call to pci_clear_master() in __e1000_shutdown().

This patch fixes the issue of unlocking swflag_mutex for 82574 and 82583
devices regardless of if the hw semaphore has been successfully acquired via
e1000_get_hw_semaphore_82574(). With this patch, unlocking mutex now depends
on if the hw semaphore was successfully acquired before. And 82574/82583
devices are reset regardless of whether e1000_get_hw_semaphore_82574()
returns success or failure.

An "unable to handle kernel paging request" panic can occur when receiving
traffic while the interface is going down. Wait for NAPI to be done with
current context after disabling interrupts and then disable NAPI.

The PTP Hardware Clock settime function in the e1000e driver
computes nanoseconds from a struct timespec. The code converts the
seconds field .tv_sec by multiplying it with NSEC_PER_SEC. However,
both operands are of type long, resulting in an unintended overflow.
The patch fixes the issue by using the helper function from time.h.

Add a protocol argument to the VLAN packet tagging functions. In case of HW
tagging, we need that protocol available in the ndo_start_xmit functions,
so it is stored in a new field in the skb. The new field fits into a hole
(on 64 bit) and doesn't increase the sks's size.

Rename the hardware VLAN acceleration features to include "CTAG" to indicate
that they only support CTAGs. Follow up patches will introduce 802.1ad
server provider tagging (STAGs) and require the distinction for hardware not
supporting acclerating both.

The previous commit ce43a2168c (e1000e:
cleanup USLEEP_RANGE checkpatch checks) converted a number of delays and
sleeps as recommended in ./Documentation/timers/timers-howto.txt.
Unfortunately, a few of the udelay() to usleep_range() conversions are in
code paths that are in an atomic context in which usleep_range() should
not be used. Revert those specific changes.

Set the Latency Tolerance Reporting (LTR) values for the "PCIe-like"
GbE MAC in the Lynx Point PCH based on Rx buffer size and link speed
when link is up (which must not exceed the maximum latency supported
by the platform), otherwise specify there is no LTR requirement.
Unlike true-PCIe devices which set the LTR maximum snoop/no-snoop
latencies in the LTR Extended Capability Structure in the PCIe Extended
Capability register set, on this device LTR is set by writing the
equivalent snoop/no-snoop latencies in the LTRV register in the MAC and
set the SEND bit to send an Intel On-chip System Fabric sideband (IOSF-SB)
message to the PMC.

Devices supported by the driver which support EEE (currently 82579, I217
and I218) are advertising EEE capabilities during auto-negotiation even
when EEE has been disabled. In addition to not acting as expected, this
also caused the EEE status reported by 'ethtool --show-eee' to be wrong
when two of these devices are connected back-to-back and EEE is disabled
on one. In addition to fixing this issue, the ability for the user to
specify which speeds (100 or 1000 full-duplex) to advertise EEE support
has been added.

When the MAC and PHY are in two different modes (different power levels
and interconnect speeds), it could take a long time before a PHY register
access timed out using the existing MAC-PHY interconnect configuration
coded into the driver for ICH- and PCH-based LOMs. Introduce an I217/I218-
specific .setup_physical_interface operation which does not override the
interconnect configuration in the NVM.

When the LEDs are driven by cathode, the bit logic is reversed. Use the
LED Invert bit to invert the logic. Cleanup use of a magic number and
change the for loop increment to reduce the number of shifts.

Two 82579 LOMs connected via a 10Mb hub experience extraordinarily low
performance. This is because 82579 is excessively aggressive on transmit
at 10Mb half-duplex and will not provide sufficient time for the link
partner to transmit. When the link partner is also 82579, the result is a
lot of collisions (and corresponding re-transmits) that cause the poor
performance. To work-around this issue, significantly increase the IPG in
the MAC to allow enough gap for the link partner to transmit and reduce the
Rx latency in the analog PHY to 0 to reduce the number of collisions.

PHY reads/writes via the MDIC register could potentially return results
from a previous PHY register access. If that happens, the offset in the
returned results will be that of the previous access and if that is
different from the expected offset, log a debug message and error out.

This patch removes redundant actions from driver and fixes its interaction
with actions in pci-bus runtime power management code.
It removes pci_save_state() from __e1000_shutdown() for normal adapters,
PCI bus callbacks pci_pm_*() will do all this for us. Now __e1000_shutdown()
switches to D3-state only quad-port adapters, because they needs quirk for
clearing false-positive error from downsteam pci-e port.
pci_save_state() now called after clearing bus-master bit, thus __e1000_resume()
and e1000_io_slot_reset() must set it back after restoring configuration space.
This patch set get_link_status before calling pm_runtime_put() in e1000_open()
to allow e1000_idle() get real link status and schedule first runtime suspend.
This patch also enables wakeup for device if management mode is enabled
(like for WoL) as result pci_prepare_to_sleep() would setup wakeup without
special actions like custom 'enable_wakeup' sign.

This patch removes redundant and unbalanced pci_disable_device() from
__e1000_shutdown(). pci_clear_master() is enough, device can go into
suspended state with elevated enable_cnt.

At 1000Mbps link speed, one of the MAC's internal clocks can be stopped for
up to 4us when entering K1 (a power mode of the MAC-PHY interconnect). If
the MAC is waiting for completion indications for 2 DMA write requests into
Host memory (e.g. descriptor writeback or Rx packet writing) and the
indications occur while the clock is stopped, both indications will be
missed by the MAC causing the MAC to wait for the completion indications
and be unable to generate further DMA write requests. This results in an
apparent hardware hang.
Work-around the issue by disabling the de-assertion of the clock request
when 1000Mbps link is acquired (K1 must be disabled while doing this).

Current e1000e driver doesn't tell nothing when Link Speed is downgraded due to
SmartSpeed. As a result, users suspect that there is something wrong with
NIC. If the cause of it is SmartSpeed, there is no means to replace NIC. This
patch make e1000e notify users that SmartSpeed worked.

For standard IEEE MII-compatible transceivers, the kernel has generic
register and bit definitions. Use those instead of redundant local
defines.
Do not replace references of MII_CR_SPEED_10 with BMCR_SPEED10 (0x0000)
when it is not necessary (i.e. when it is bitwise OR'ed with another
value).
Some whitespace issues in the surrounding context of the above changes are
also cleaned up.

It has been found that devices other than 82579 (a.k.a. e1000_pch2lan)
suffer from dropped transactions on platforms with deep C-states when
jumbo frames are enabled. For example, LOMs on ICH9- and ICH10-based
platforms which recently had early-receive de-featured (for stability
reasons) suffer from this. To resolve this for all devices, when jumbo
frames are enabled set the PM QoS DMA latency request based on the size
of the receive packet buffer less one full frame.

Remove the function e1000e_commit_phy() and replace the few calls to it
with the same function pointer that it would call. The function pointer is
almost always set for the devices that access these code paths so there is
no risk of a NULL pointer dereference; for the few instances where the
function pointer might not be set (i.e. can be called for the few devices
which do not have this function pointer set), check for a valid function
pointer.

Toggling the LANPHYPC Value bit cycles the power on the PHY and sets it
back to power-on defaults. This includes setting it's MAC-PHY messaging
mode to use the PCIe-like interconnect, so the MAC must also be set back
from SMBus mode to PCIe mode otherwise the PHY can be inaccessible.

As done with the previous generation managed 82579, prevent the PHY from
being put into an unknown state by blocking the hardware from automatically
configuring the PHY as done with the previous generation managed 82579.
Instead, the driver should configure the PHY with contents of the EEPROM
image.

In rare instances, memory errors have been detected in the internal packet
buffer memory on I217/I218 when stressed under certain environmental
conditions. Enable Error Correcting Code (ECC) in hardware to catch both
correctable and uncorrectable errors. Correctable errors will be handled
by the hardware. Uncorrectable errors in the packet buffer will cause the
packet to be received with an error indication in the buffer descriptor
causing the packet to be discarded. If the uncorrectable error is in the
descriptor itself, the hardware will stop and interrupt the driver
indicating the error. The driver will then reset the hardware in order to
clear the error and restart.
Both types of errors will be accounted for in statistics counters.

The SHRAH[9] register on I217 has a different R/W bit-mask than RAR and
SHRAL/H registers. Set R/W bit-mask appropriately for SHRAH[9] when
testing the R/W ability of the register. Also, fix the error message log
format so that it does not provide misleading information (i.e. the logged
register address could be incorrect).

On 82574, 82583, 82579, I217 and I218 add support for hardware time
stamping of all or no Rx packets and Tx packets which have the
SKBTX_HW_TSTAMP flag set. Update the .get_ts_info ethtool operation to
report the supported time stamping modes, and enable and disable hardware
time stamping with the SIOCSHWTSTAMP ioctl.

Use the standard #defines for PCIe Capability ASPM fields.
Previously we used PCIE_LINK_STATE_L0S and PCIE_LINK_STATE_L1 directly, but
these are defined for the Linux ASPM interfaces, e.g.,
pci_disable_link_state(), and only coincidentally match the actual register
bits. PCIE_LINK_STATE_CLKPM, also part of that interface, does not match
the register bit.

When there is heavy traffic and the cable is pulled, the driver must reset
the adapter to flush the Tx queue in hardware. This causes the reset path
to be scheduled and logs the message "Reset adapter" which could be mis-
interpreted as an error by the user. Change how the reset path is invoked
for this scenario by using the same method done in an existing work-around
for 80003es2lan (i.e. set a flag and if the flag is set in the reset code
do not log the "Reset adapter" message since the reset is expected).
Re-name the FLAG_RX_RESTART_NOW to FLAG_RESTART_NOW since it is used for
resets in both the Rx and Tx specific code.

Energy Efficient Ethernet on 82579 and I217 should only be enabled if not
disabled by the user, if the link is full duplex and the link partner has
similar EEE capabilities (stored in different EMI registers on the two
different parts).
After enabling EEE, read the IEEE MMD register 3.1 (which is also stored in
different EMI registers on the two different parts) to clear the count of
received Tx/Rx LPI indications.
Also, rename I217_EEE_100_SUPPORTED to I82579_EEE_100_SUPPORTED to indicate
the bit is valid starting with I82579 (released before I217).

When connected to certain switches, the 82577 PHY might drop link
unexpectedly. Work around the issue by setting the Mean Square Error
higher than the hardware default.

The Extended Management Interface (EMI) registers are accessed by first
writing the EMI register offset to the EMI_ADDR regiter and then either
reading or writing the data to/from the EMI_DATA register. Add helper
functions for performing these steps and convert existing EMI register
accesses accordingly.

On I217, the bit that indicates an invalid EEPROM (NVM) image checksum has
changed from previous ICH/PCH LOMs. When validating the EEPROM checksum,
check the appropriate bit on different devices.

When data blocks are written to the EEPROM, the HW/SW/FW semaphore must be
held for the duration. With large data blocks on 80003es2lan, 82571 and
82572, this can take too long and cause the firmware to take ownership of
the semaphore and consequently ownership of writes to the EEPROM.
Instead, acquire and release the semaphore for each page of the block
written.

The __dev* removal patches for the network drivers ended up messing up
the function prototypes for a bunch of drivers. This patch fixes all of
them back up to be properly aligned.
Bonus is that this almost removes 100 lines of code, always a nice
surprise.

This is a HW requirement. Although a buffer as short as 1 byte is allowed,
the total length of packet before, padding and CRC insertion, must be at
least 17 bytes. So pad all small packets manually up to 17 bytes before
delivering them to HW.

This patch originated from Hiroaki SHIMODA but has been modified
by Intel with some minor cleanups and additional commit log text.
Denys Fedoryshchenko and others reported Tx stalls on e1000e with
BQL enabled. Issue was root caused to hardware delays. They were
introduced because some of the e1000e hardware with transmit
writeback bursting enabled, waits until the driver does an
explict flush OR there are WTHRESH descriptors to write back.
Sometimes the delays in question were on the order of seconds,
causing visible lag for ssh sessions and unacceptable tx
completion latency, especially for BQL enabled kernels.
To avoid possible Tx stalls, change WTHRESH back to 1.
The current plan is to investigate a method for re-enabling
WTHRESH while not harming BQL, but those patches will be later
for net-next if they work.

With a low enough MSS on the link partner and TSO enabled locally, the
networking stack can periodically send a very large (e.g. 64KB) TCP
message for which the driver will attempt to use more Tx descriptors than
are available by default in the Tx ring. This is due to a workaround in
the code that imposes a limit of only 4 MSS-sized segments per descriptor
which appears to be a carry-over from the older e1000 driver and may be
applicable only to some older PCI or PCIx parts which are not supported in
e1000e. When the driver gets a message that is too large to fit across the
configured number of Tx descriptors, it stops the upper stack from queueing
any more and gets stuck in this state. After a timeout, the upper stack
assumes the adapter is hung and calls the driver to reset it.
Remove the unnecessary limitation of using up to only 4 MSS-sized segments
per Tx descriptor, and put in a hard failure test to catch when attempting
to check for message sizes larger than would fit in the whole Tx ring.
Refactor the remaining logic that limits the size of data per Tx descriptor
from a seemingly arbitrary 8KB to a limit based on the dynamic size of the
Tx packet buffer as described in the hardware specification.
Also, fix the logic in the check for space in the Tx ring for the next
largest possible packet after the current one has been successfully queued
for transmit, and use the appropriate defines for default ring sizes in
e1000_probe instead of magic values.
This issue goes back to the introduction of e1000e in 2.6.24 when it was
split off from e1000.

Some users report issues with link failing when connected to certain
switches. This gives the user the ability to control the MDI state
from the driver, allowing users to work around some improperly
behaving switches.
Forcing in this driver is for now only allowed when auto-neg is
enabled.

This patch resolves a "BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at ..."
oops while dumping packet data. The issue occurs with IOMMU enabled due to
the address provided by phys_to_virt().
This patch avoids phys_to_virt() by using skb->data and the address of the
pages allocated for Rx.

A bus trace shows that while executing e1000e_down, TCTL is cleared except
for the PSP bit. This occurs while in the middle of fetching a TSO packet
since the Tx packet buffer is full at that point. Before the device is
reset, the e1000_watchdog_task starts to run from the middle (it was
apparently pre-empted earlier, although that is not in the trace) and sets
TCTL.EN. At that point, 82571 transmits the corrupted packet, apparently
because TCTL.MULR was cleared in the middle of fetching a packet, which is
forbidden.
Driver should just clear TCTL.EN in e1000_reset_hw_82571 instead of
clearing the entire register, so as not to change any settings in the
middle of fetching a packet.

If the link partner is transmitting codeword (even if NULL codeword),
then the RXCW.C bit will be set so check for RXCW.CW is unnecessary.
