With the current state of code, we would endup with something like
below in /proc/asound/cards for 2 machines based on this driver.
Machine 1:
0 [DB845c ]: DB845c - DB845c
DB845c
Machine 2:
0 [LenovoYOGAC6301]: Lenovo-YOGA-C63 - Lenovo-YOGA-C630-13Q50
LENOVO-81JL-LenovoYOGAC630_13Q50-LNVNB161216
This is not very UCM friendly both w.r.t to common up configs and
card identification, and UCM2 became totally not usefull with just
one ucm sdm845.conf for two machines which have different setups
w.r.t HDMI and other dais.
Reasons for such thing is partly because Qualcomm machine drivers never
cared to set driver_name.
This patch sets up driver name for the this driver to sort out the
UCM integration issues!
after this patch contents of /proc/asound/cards:
Machine 1:
0 [DB845c ]: sdm845 - DB845c

Machine 2:

LENOVO-81JL-LenovoYOGAC630_13Q50-LNVNB161216
with this its possible to align with what UCM2 expects and we can have
sdm845/DB845.conf
sdm845/LENOVO-81JL-LenovoYOGAC630_13Q50-LNVNB161216.conf
... for board variants. This should scale much better!

In some cases we need to probe additional audio components that do
not appear as part of the DAI links specified in the device tree.
Examples for this are auxiliary devices such as analog amplifiers
or codecs.
The ASoC core provides a way to probe these components by adding
them to snd_soc_card->aux_dev. We can use the snd_soc_of_parse_aux_devs()
function to parse them from the device tree.
As an example for this, some MSM8916 smartphones have an analog
speaker amplifier connected to the HPHR output. With the new property
this can be modelled as follows:
speaker-amp: audio-amplifier {
compatible = "simple-audio-amplifier";
enable-gpios = <&msmgpio 114 GPIO_ACTIVE_HIGH>;
sound-name-prefix = "Speaker Amp";
};
&sound {
aux-devs = <&speaker_amp>;
audio-routing = "Speaker Amp IN", "HPHR";

This patchset adds gapless compressed audio support on q6asm.
Gapless on q6asm is implemented using 2 streams in a single q6asm session.
First few patches such as stream id per each command, gapless flags
and silence meta data are for preparedness for adding gapless support.
Last patch implements copy callback to allow finer control over buffer offsets,

This patchset is tested on RB3 aka DB845c platform.
This patchset as it is will support gapless however QDSP can also
support switching decoders on a single stream. Patches to support such feature
are send in different patchset which involves adding generic interfaces.

Each ASM session can have multiple streams attached to it,
current design was to allow only one static stream id 1 per each session.
However for use-case like gapless, we would need 2 streams to open per session.
This patch converts all the q6asm apis to take stream id as argument
to allow multiple streams to open on a single session, This is useful
for gapless playback cases.
Now the dai driver can specify which stream id for each command.

Most of the DAPM widgets for DSP ASoC components reuse reg field
of the widgets for its internal calculations, however these are not
real registers. So read/writes to these numbers are not really
valid. However ASoC core will read these registers to get default

Right now the direction of a DAI has to be specified as a literal
number in the device tree, e.g.:
dai@0 {
reg = <0>;
direction = <2>;
};
but this does not make it immediately clear that this is a
playback/RX-only DAI.
Actually, q6asm-dai.c has useful defines for this. Move them to the
dt-bindings header to allow using them in the dts(i) files.
The example above then becomes:
dai@0 {
reg = <0>;
direction = <Q6ASM_DAI_RX>;
};
which is immediately recognizable as playback/RX-only DAI.

qcom_snd_parse_of() tends to produce lots of error messages during bootup:
MultiMedia1: error getting cpu dai name
This happens because the DAIs are not probed until the ADSP remoteproc
has booted, which takes a while. Until it is ready, snd_soc_of_get_dai_name()
returns -EDEFER_PROBE to retry probing later. This is perfectly normal,
so cleanup the kernel log a bit by not printing in case of -EPROBE_DEFER.

The apq8016_sbc device tree binding uses a "qcom," vendor prefix
for all device tree properties, while qcom_snd_parse_of() uses the

for backwards compatibility we need to parse both names to allow

So far qcom_snd_parse_of() was only used to parse the device tree
for boards using the QDSP6 driver together with DPCM. apq8016_sbc
uses an almost identical version (apq8016_sbc_parse_of()) which
parses links without DPCM.
Given the similarity of the two functions it is useful to combine
these two. To allow using qcom_snd_parse_of() in apq8016_sbc we
need to support parsing links without DPCM as well.
This is pretty simple: A DPCM link in the device tree is defined using:
- DPCM frontend: "cpu"
- DPCM backend: "cpu", "platform" and "codec"
... while a link without DPCM has "cpu" and "codec" (but no "platform").
Add a few more if conditions to handle links without DPCM correctly.

Commit a212008925 ("ASoC: qcom: common: set correct directions for dailinks")
introduced a call to q6afe_is_rx_port() to set the dpcm_playback/capture
parameters correctly. This is necessary because those parameters are now
validated to match the capabilities of the DAIs. [1]
The disadvantage of introducing the call to q6afe_is_rx_port() is that
it makes the qcom_snd_parse_of() helper dependent on the QDSP6 driver.
When the ADSP is bypassed (e.g. in apq8016-sbc) QDSP6 is not used.
There is a generic solution for this now: The correct direction for the links
is already defined by the DAI capabilities (e.g. rx ports only support playback).
Commit 25612477d2 ("ASoC: soc-dai: set dai_link dpcm_ flags with a helper")
introduced the snd_soc_dai_link_set_capabilities() function that we can use
to set dpcm_playback/dpcm_capture according to the capabilities of the DAIs.
Use that for both FE/BE DAI links to avoid the dependency on the QDSP6 driver.

As the QDSP6 driver itself builds fine if NO_DMA=y, and it depends on
QCOM_APR (which in turns depends on ARCH_QCOM || COMPILE_TEST), it is
safe to increase compile testing coverage. Hence fix the link failure
by dropping the HAS_DMA dependency of SND_SOC_QDSP6.

The LPASS hardware allows configuring the MI2S SD lines to use
when playing/recording audio. However, at the moment the lpass-cpu
driver has SD0 hard-coded for mono/stereo (or additional fixed
SD lines for more channels).
For weird reasons there seems to be hardware that uses one of the
other SD lines for mono/stereo. For example, some Samsung devices
use an external Speaker amplifier connected to Quaternary MI2S.
For some reason, the SD line for audio playback was connected to
SD1 rather than SD0. (I have no idea why...)
At the moment, the lpass-cpu driver cannot be configured to work
for the Speaker on these devices.
The q6afe driver already allows configuring the MI2S SD lines
through the "qcom,sd-lines" device tree property, but this works
only when routing audio through the ADSP.
This commit adds a very similar configuration for the lpass-cpu driver.
It is now possible to add additional subnodes to the lpass device in
the device tree, to configure the SD lines for playback and/or capture.
E.g. for the Samsung devices mentioned above:
&lpass {
dai@3 {
reg = <MI2S_QUATERNARY>;
qcom,playback-sd-lines = <1>;
};
};
qcom,playback/capture-sd-lines takes a list of SD lines (0-3)
in the same format as the q6afe driver. (The difference here is that
q6afe has separate DAIs for playback/capture, while lpass-cpu has one
for both...)
For backwards compatibility with older device trees, the lpass-cpu driver
defaults to LPAIF_I2SCTL_MODE_8CH if the subnode for a DAI is missing.
This is equivalent to the previous behavior: Up to 8 channels can be
configured, and SD0/QUAT01 will be chosen when setting up a stream
with fewer channels.
This allows the speaker to work on Samsung MSM8916 devices
that use an external speaker amplifier.

For some reason, the MI2S DAIs do not have channels_min/max defined.
This means that snd_soc_dai_stream_valid() returns false,
i.e. the DAIs have neither valid playback nor capture stream.
It's quite surprising that this ever worked correctly,
but in 5.7-rc1 this is now failing badly: :)
Commit 0e9cf4c452 ("ASoC: pcm: check if cpu-dai supports a given stream")
introduced a check for snd_soc_dai_stream_valid() before calling
hw_params(), which means that the q6i2s_hw_params() function
was never called, eventually resulting in:
qcom-q6afe aprsvc:q6afe:4:4: no line is assigned
... even though "qcom,sd-lines" is set in the device tree.
Commit 9b5db05936 ("ASoC: soc-pcm: dpcm: Only allow playback/capture if supported")
now even avoids creating PCM devices if the stream is not supported,
which means that it is failing even earlier with e.g.:
Primary MI2S: ASoC: no backend playback stream
Avoid all that trouble by adding channels_min/max for the MI2S DAIs.

At the moment, playing audio with PulseAudio with the qdsp6 driver
results in distorted sound. It seems like its timer-based scheduling
does not work properly with qdsp6 since setting tsched=0 in
the PulseAudio configuration avoids the issue.
Apparently this happens when the pointer() callback is not accurate
enough. There is a SNDRV_PCM_INFO_BATCH flag that can be used to stop
PulseAudio from using timer-based scheduling by default.
According to https://www.alsa-project.org/pipermail/alsa-devel/2014-March/073816.html:
The flag is being used in the sense explained in the previous audio
meeting -- the data transfer granularity isn't fine enough but aligned
to the period size (or less).
q6asm-dai reports the position as multiple of
prtd->pcm_count = snd_pcm_lib_period_bytes(substream)
so it indeed just a multiple of the period size.
Therefore adding the flag here seems appropriate and makes audio
work out of the box.

In other words, there are some components which are different but

In such case, Card driver definitely need to select Platform even

It is depends on CPU driver, but is difficult to know it from Card driver.

A snd_soc_dai_link_component is allocated and associated with the first
link, so when the code tries to assign the of_node of the second link's
"cpu" member it dereferences a NULL pointer.
Fix this by moving the allocation and assignement of
snd_soc_dai_link_components into the loop, giving us one pair per link.

in order to avoid any potential type mistakes, in particular in the

So, replace code of the following form:

with:

Although qcom_snd_parse_of() tries to manage the of-node refcount,
there are still a few places that lead to the unblanced refcount in
the error code path. Namely,
- for_each_child_of_node() needs to unreference the iterator node if
aborting the loop in the middle,
- cpu, codec and platform node objects have to be unreferenced at each
iteration,
- platform and codec node objects have to be referred before jumping
to the error handling code that unreference them unconditionally.
This patch tries to address these by moving the assignment of platform
and codec node objects to the beginning of the loop and adding the
of_node_put() calls adequately.
