The top-row keys in a keyboard usually have dual functionalities.
E.g. A function key "F1" is also an action key "Browser back".
Therefore, when an application receives an action key code from
a top-row key press, the application needs to know how to correlate
the action key code with the function key code and do the conversion
whenever necessary.
Since the userpace already knows the key scanlines (row/column)
associated with a received key code. Essentially, the userspace only
needs a mapping between the key row/column and the matching physical
location in the top row.
So, enhance the cros-ec-keyb driver to create such a mapping
and expose it to userspace in the form of a function_row_physmap
attribute. The attribute would be a space separated ordered list of
row/column codes for the keys in the function row, in a left-to-right
order.
The attribute will only be present when the device has a custom design
for the top-row keys.

For some reason, when the system is under heavy CPU load, the read
following the write sometimes occurs unusually quickly, resulting in
the read data not being quite ready and hence a bad packet getting read.
Adding another delay after reading the status message appears to fix
this.

The response to a command may never arrive or it may be corrupted (and
hence dropped) for some reason. While exceedingly rare, when it did
happen it blocked all further commands. One way to fix this was to
do a suspend/resume. However, recovering automatically seems like a
nicer option. Hence this puts a time limit (1 sec) on how long we're
willing to wait for a response, after which we assume it got lost.

All amba drivers return 0 in their remove callback. Together with the
driver core ignoring the return value anyhow, it doesn't make sense to
return a value here.
Change the remove prototype to return void, which makes it explicit that
returning an error value doesn't work as expected. This simplifies changing
the core remove callback to return void, too.

Adapt all isa_drivers with a remove callbacks accordingly; they all

After the device is initialized, it runs ATI (calibration) during
which it cannot readily respond to I2C communication. To keep the
open and close callbacks from writing to the device too soon, the
driver waits 100 ms before returning from probe.
The vendor reports that ATI may actually take up to 250 ms to run
(including margin), so increase the delay accordingly. Update the
comments to clarify the reason for the delay as well.

Instead of relying on firmware to enable important register fields
and performing read-modify-write operations to additionally enable
the fields the driver cares about, it's much simpler just to write
all of the pertinent fields explicitly.
This avoids an unnecessary register read operation at start-up and
makes way for the iqs5xx_read_byte() helper to be dropped.

The present implementation manipulates axis swap and inversion fields
in the device to more or less duplicate what touchscreen_report_pos()
does. The resulting logic is convoluted and difficult to follow.
Instead report the maximum X and Y coordinates in earnest as they are
read from the device, then let touchscreen_parse_properties() fix the
axes up as necessary. Finally, use touchscreen_report_pos() to report
the transformed coordinates.
Last but not least, the maximum X and Y coordinates are not functions
of the number of rows/columns that comprise the touch surface. Either
coordinate is simply limited to 1 below what is reported for absolute
X or Y coordinates when no fingers are present (0xFFFF).

The device may be inadvertently reset during runtime in the event
of ESD strike, etc. To protect against this case, acknowledge the
SHOW_RESET interrupt and re-initialize the device.
To facilitate this change, expand the range of registers that are

Also, update the unrelated (but nearby) SUSPEND register field to
use the BIT() macro. The remaining register fields are cleaned up

The bootloader NAK's all I2C communication after the first 64-byte
bulk write if the bus frequency is equal to 400 kHz. This prevents
the platform from pushing updated firmware to the device.
The vendor's USB bootloader programming dongle appears to insert a
delay between the "open" command and the first 64-byte bulk write.
Adding a similar delay to the driver seems to eliminate the issue.
Furthermore, the dongle does not access the bootloader immediately
after powering up the device. Follow suit by adding a delay before
the "open" command to avoid wasted retries at 400 kHz.

After user space writes the fw_file attribute to push new firmware
to the device, the driver calls iqs5xx_dev_init() to re-initialize
the device with the updated firmware or recover the device in case
the update failed.
In the case of the latter, however, iqs5xx_fw_file_write() returns
zero (success) so long as iqs5xx_dev_init() does not fail, and any
error encountered during the update process is lost. Solve this by
saving the error before calling iqs5xx_dev_init().

Fixes both the "splice/sendfile to a tty" and "splice/sendfile from a

tty: teach n_tty line discipline about the new "cookie continuations"
tty: clean up legacy leftovers from n_tty line discipline
tty: implement read_iter
tty: convert tty_ldisc_ops 'read()' function to take a kernel pointer
tty: implement write_iter
Convert multiple full duplex transfers in to a single transfer to reduce
CPU load.
Current driver version support following filtering modes:
- ads7846_no_filter() - not filtered
- ads7846_debounce_filter() - driver specific debounce filter
- pdata->filter - platform specific debounce filter (do any platform
provides such filter?)
Without filter this HW is not really usable, since the physic of
resistive touchscreen can provide some bounce effects. With driver internal
filter, we have constant amount of retries + debounce retries if some anomaly
was detected.
High amount of tiny SPI transfers is the primer reason of high CPU load
and interrupt frequency.
This patch create one SPI transfer with all fields and not optional retires. If
bounce anomaly was detected, we will make more transfer if needed.
Without this patch, we will get about 10% CPU load on iMX6S on pen-down event.
For example by holding stylus on the screen.
With this patch, depending in the amount of retries, the CPU load will
be 1% with "ti,debounce-rep = <3>".
One buffer transfer allows us to use PIO FIFO or DMA engine, depending
on the platform.

The tty line discipline .read() function was passed the final user
pointer destination as an argument, which doesn't match the 'write()'
function, and makes it very inconvenient to do a splice method for
ttys.
This is a conversion to use a kernel buffer instead.
NOTE! It does this by passing the tty line discipline ->read() function
an additional "cookie" to fill in, and an offset into the cookie data.
The line discipline can fill in the cookie data with its own private
information, and then the reader will repeat the read until either the
cookie is cleared or it runs out of data.
The only real user of this is N_HDLC, which can use this to handle big
packets, even if the kernel buffer is smaller than the whole packet.

We are still missing handling for errata i689 related issues for the
case where we never see a key up interrupt for the last pressed key.
To fix the issue, we must scan the key state again after the keyboard
controller has idled to check if a key up event was missed. This is
described in the omap4 silicon errata documentation for Errata ID i689
"1.32 Keyboard Key Up Event Can Be Missed":
"When a key is released for a time shorter than the debounce time,
in-between 2 key press (KP1 and KP2), the keyboard state machine will go
to idle mode and will never detect the key release (after KP1, and also
after KP2), and thus will never generate a new IRQ indicating the key
release."
We can use PM runtime autosuspend features to check the keyboard state
after it enters idle.

Because of errata i689 the keyboard can idle with state where no key
up interrupts are seen until after the next key press.
This means we need to first check for any lost key up events before
scanning for new down events.
For example, rapidly pressing shift-shift-j can sometimes produce a J
instead of j. Let's fix the issue by scanning the keyboard in two
phases. First we scan for any key up events that we may have missed,
and then we scan for key down events.

According to the st1232 datasheet, the host has to wait for the device
to change into Normal state before accessing registers other than the
Status Register.
If the reset GPIO is wired, the device is powered on during driver
probe, just before reading the resolution. However, the latter may
happen before the device is ready, leading to a probe failure:
st1232-ts 1-0055: Failed to read resolution: -6
Fix this by waiting until the device is ready, by trying to read the
Status Register until it indicates so, or until timeout.
On Armadillo 800 EVA, typically the first read fails with an I2C
transfer error, while the second read indicates the device is ready.

The big change this release has been some excellent work from Lukas
Wunner which closes a bunch of holes in the cleanup paths for drivers,
mainly introduced as a result of devm conversions causing bad
interactions with the support SPI has for allocating the bus and driver
data together. Together with some of the other work done it feels like
we've turned the corner on several long standing pain points with the
API.
- Many cleanups around probe/remove and error handling from Lukas
Wunner and Uwe Kleine-König, and further fixes around PM from Zhang
Qilong.
- Provide a mask for which bits of the mode can safely be configured by
drivers and use that to fix an issue with the ADS7846 driver.
- Documentation of the expected interactions between SPI and GPIO level
chip select polarity configuration from H. Nikolaus Schaller,
hopefully we're pretty much at the end of sorting out the
interactions there. Thanks to Nikolaus, Sven Van Asbroeck and Linus
Walleij for this.
- DMA support for Allwinner sun6i controllers.
- Support for Canaan K210 Designware implementations and Intel Adler Lake.

Merge tag 'spi-v5.11' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/broonie/spi
Pull spi updates from Mark Brown:
"The big change this release has been some excellent work from Lukas
Wunner which closes a bunch of holes in the cleanup paths for drivers,
mainly introduced as a result of devm conversions causing bad
interactions with the support SPI has for allocating the bus and
driver data together.
Together with some of the other work done it feels like we've turned
the corner on several long standing pain points with the API.
Summary:
- Many cleanups around probe/remove and error handling from Lukas
Wunner and Uwe Kleine-König, and further fixes around PM from Zhang
Qilong.
- Provide a mask for which bits of the mode can safely be configured
by drivers and use that to fix an issue with the ADS7846 driver.
- Documentation of the expected interactions between SPI and GPIO
level chip select polarity configuration from H. Nikolaus Schaller,
hopefully we're pretty much at the end of sorting out the
interactions there. Thanks to Nikolaus, Sven Van Asbroeck and Linus
Walleij for this.
- DMA support for Allwinner sun6i controllers.
- Support for Canaan K210 Designware implementations and Intel Adler
Lake"

If device is set up as a wakeup source, I2C core configures the interrupt
line as wake IRQ and PM core automatically configures it for waking up the
system on system suspend transition, so we do not have to explicitly call

The Samsung touchkey controllers are often used with external pull-up
for the interrupt line and the I2C lines, so we might need to enable
a regulator to bring the lines into usable state. Otherwise, this might
cause spurious interrupts and reading from I2C will fail.
Implement support for a "vddio-supply" that is enabled by the
tm2-touchkey driver so that the regulator gets enabled when needed.

This adds support for the power button attached to the Embedded Controller
on a Dell Wyse 3020 "Ariel" board.
The Embedded Controller's SPI interface is actually capable sending and
receiving the PS/2 keyboard and mouse protocol data, which looks like
a good fit for a serio driver. Howerver, I don't know of any machines where
this is actually used.
My board only has a single power button and no way to connect an actual
keyboard or a mouse. Using the atkbd driver with serio would be an overkill
and would be inconvenient for the userspace. Therefore this driver
registers an input device that is only capable of reporting the power
button presses and releases.

The driver has its own HID descriptor parsing code, that had and still
has several issues discovered by syzbot and other tools. Ideally we
should move the driver over to the HID subsystem, so that it uses proven
parsing code. However the devices in question are EOL, and GTCO is not
willing to extend resources for that, so let's simply remove the driver.
Note that our HID support has greatly improved over the last 10 years,
we may also consider reverting 6f8d9e26e7 ("hid-core.c: Adds all GTCO
CalComp Digitizers and InterWrite School Products to blacklist") and see
if GTCO devices actually work with normal HID drivers.

Raydium device does not like splitting of tx transactions into multiple
messages - one for the register address and one for the actual data. This
results in incorrect behavior on the device side.
This change updates raydium_i2c_read and raydium_i2c_write to create
i2c_msg arrays separately and passes those arrays into raydium_i2c_xfer
which decides based on the address whether the bank switch command should
be sent. The bank switch header is still added by raydium_i2c_read and
raydium_i2c_write to ensure that all these operations are performed as part
of a single I2C transfer. It guarantees that no other transactions are
initiated to any other device on the same bus after the bank switch command
is sent.

Pull input fixes from Dmitry Torokhov:
"A fix for 'RETRIGEN' handling in Atmel touch controllers that was

Input: soc_button_array - add missing include
Userspace might want to implement a policy to temporarily disregard input
from certain devices, including not treating them as wakeup sources.
An example use case is a laptop, whose keyboard can be folded under the
screen to create tablet-like experience. The user then must hold the laptop
in such a way that it is difficult to avoid pressing the keyboard keys. It
is therefore desirable to temporarily disregard input from the keyboard,
until it is folded back. This obviously is a policy which should be kept
out of the kernel, but the kernel must provide suitable means to implement
such a policy.
This patch adds a sysfs interface for exactly this purpose.
To implement the said interface it adds an "inhibited" property to struct
input_dev, and effectively creates four states a device can be in: closed
uninhibited, closed inhibited, open uninhibited, open inhibited. It also
defers calling driver's ->open() and ->close() to until they are actually
needed, e.g. it makes no sense to prepare the underlying device for
generating events (->open()) if the device is inhibited.
uninhibit
closed <------------ closed
uninhibited ------------> inhibited
| ^ inhibit | ^
1st | | 1st | |
open | | open | |
| | | |
| | last | | last
| | close | | close
v | uninhibit v |
open <------------ open
uninhibited ------------> inhibited
The top inhibit/uninhibit transition happens when users == 0.
The bottom inhibit/uninhibit transition happens when users > 0.
The left open/close transition happens when !inhibited.
The right open/close transition happens when inhibited.
Due to all transitions being serialized with dev->mutex, it is impossible
to have "diagonal" transitions between closed uninhibited and open
inhibited or between open uninhibited and closed inhibited.
No new callbacks are added to drivers, because their open() and close()
serve exactly the purpose to tell the driver to start/stop providing
events to the input core. Consequently, open() and close() - if provided
- are called in both inhibit and uninhibit paths.

After commit 74d905d2d3 devices requiring the workaround for edge
triggered interrupts stopped working.
The hardware needs the quirk to be used before even proceeding to
check if the quirk is needed because mxt_acquire_irq() is called
before mxt_check_retrigen() is called and at this point pending IRQs
need to be checked, and if the workaround is not active, all
interrupts will be lost from this point.
Solve this by switching the calls around.

pm_runtime_enable will increase power disable depth. Thus a
pairing decrement is needed on the error handling path to keep
it balanced.

The driver clears the general configuration register during the remove()
hook. This should also be done in case the driver exits on error.

This is currently just dead code. It's from around a time when
platform-data was used, and a board could hook it's own special callback
for setup/teardown, and a private object (via 'context').

This change makes use of the devm_input_allocate_device() function, which
gets rid of the input_free_device() and input_unregister_device() calls.
When a device is allocated via input_allocate_device(), the
input_register_device() call will also be device-managed, so there is no
longer need to manually call unregister.
Also, the irq is allocated with the devm_request_threaded_irq(), so with
these two changes, the adp5589_keypad_remove() function is no longer
needed.
This cleans up the error & exit paths.

This adds the code for the Atmel touchscreens such as mXT224 to obtain
power regulators for the supply voltages AVDD and VDD. On mobile phones
such as Samsung GT-I8190 (Golden) this is needed to explicitly bring power
online.
We just enable the regulators at probe() and disable them at remove()
or in the error path for now.
As regulators are naturally stubbed if not available, this should have no
impact on existing systems.

This driver uses GPIO descriptors to drive the touchscreen RESET line. In
the existing device trees this has in conflict with intution been flagged
as GPIO_ACTIVE_HIGH and the driver then applies the reverse action by
driving the line low (setting to 0) to enter reset state and driving the
line high (setting to 1) to get out of reset state.
The correct way to handle active low GPIO lines is to provide the
GPIO_ACTIVE_LOW in the device tree (thus properly describing the hardware)
and letting the GPIO framework invert the assertion (driving high) to a
low level and vice versa.
This is considered a bug since the device trees are incorrectly
mis-specifying the line as active high.
Fix the driver and all device trees specifying a reset line.

In some rare cases the 32 bit Rt value will overflow if z2 and x is max,
z1 is minimal value and x_plate_ohms is relatively high (for example 800
ohm). This would happen on some screen age with low pressure.
There are two possible fixes:
- make Rt 64bit
- reorder calculation to avoid overflow
The second variant seems to be preferable, since 64 bit calculation on
32 bit system is a bit more expensive.

The reason is that TOUCHSCREEN_ADC selects IIO_BUFFER_CB without depending

can also fail building the kernel.

The i8042 module exports several symbols which may be used by other
modules.
Before this commit it would refuse to load (when built as a module itself)
on systems without an i8042 controller.
This is a problem specifically for the asus-nb-wmi module. Many Asus
laptops support the Asus WMI interface. Some of them have an i8042
controller and need to use i8042_install_filter() to filter some kbd
events. Other models do not have an i8042 controller (e.g. they use an
USB attached kbd).
Before this commit the asus-nb-wmi driver could not be loaded on Asus
models without an i8042 controller, when the i8042 code was built as
a module (as Arch Linux does) because the module_init function of the
i8042 module would fail with -ENODEV and thus the i8042_install_filter
symbol could not be loaded.
This commit fixes this by exiting from module_init with a return code
of 0 if no controller is found. It also adds a i8042_present bool to
make the module_exit function a no-op in this case and also adds a
check for i8042_present to the exported i8042_command function.
The latter i8042_present check should not really be necessary because
when builtin that function can already be used on systems without
an i8042 controller, but better safe then sorry.

Pull more parisc updates from Helge Deller:
- During this merge window O_NONBLOCK was changed to become 000200000,
but we missed that the syscalls timerfd_create(), signalfd4(),
eventfd2(), pipe2(), inotify_init1() and userfaultfd() do a strict
bit-wise check of the flags parameter.
To provide backward compatibility with existing userspace we
introduce parisc specific wrappers for those syscalls which filter
out the old O_NONBLOCK value and replaces it with the new one.
- Prevent HIL bus driver to get stuck when keyboard or mouse isn't
attached
- Improve error return codes when setting rtc time

- Major cleanup of Samsung S3C24xx and S3C64xx platforms, moving them

When starting a HP machine with HIL driver but without an HIL keyboard
or HIL mouse attached, it may happen that data written to the HIL loop
gets stuck (e.g. because the transaction queue is full). Usually one
will then have to reboot the machine because all you see is and endless
output of:
Transaction add failed: transaction already queued?
In the higher layers hp_sdc_enqueue_transaction() is called to queued up
a HIL packet. This function returns an error code, and this patch adds
the necessary checks for this return code and disables the HIL driver if
further packets can't be sent.
Tested on a HP 730 and a HP 715/64 machine.

Add support for the bt541 touchscreen IC from zinitix, loosely based on
downstream driver. The driver currently supports multitouch (5 touch points).
The bt541 seems to support touch keys, but the support was not added because
that functionality is not being utilized by the touchscreen used for testing.
Based on the similartities between downstream drivers, it seems likely that
other similar touchscreen ICs can be supported with this driver in the future.

For a Hyper-V vmbus, the size of the ringbuffer has two requirements:
1) it has to take one PAGE_SIZE for the header
2) it has to be PAGE_SIZE aligned so that double-mapping can work
VMBUS_RING_SIZE() could calculate a correct ringbuffer size which
fulfills both requirements, therefore use it to make sure vmbus work
when PAGE_SIZE != HV_HYP_PAGE_SIZE (4K).
Note that since the argument for VMBUS_RING_SIZE() is the size of
payload (data part), so it will be minus 4k (the size of header when
PAGE_SIZE = 4k) than the original value to keep the ringbuffer total
size unchanged when PAGE_SIZE = 4k.

On an AMD chromebook, where the same I2C bus is shared by both Raydium
touchscreen and a trackpad device, it is observed that interleaving of
I2C messages when `raydium_i2c_read_message()` is called leads to the
Raydium touch IC reporting incorrect information. This is the sequence
that was observed to result in the above issue:
* I2C write to Raydium device for RM_CMD_BANK_SWITCH
* I2C write to trackpad device
* I2C read from trackpad device
* I2C write to Raydium device for setting address
* I2C read from Raydium device >>>> This provides incorrect
information
This change adds a new helper function `raydium_i2c_xfer()` that
performs I2C transactions to the Raydium device. It uses the register
address to decide if RM_CMD_BANK_SWITCH header needs to be sent to the
device (i.e. if register address is greater than 255, then bank switch
header is sent before the rest of the transaction). Additionally, it
ensures that all the I2C operations performed as part of
`raydium_i2c_xfer()` are done as a single i2c_transfer. This
guarantees that no other transactions are initiated to any other
device on the same bus in between. Additionally,
`raydium_i2c_{send|read}*` functions are refactored to use this new
helper function.
Verified with the patch across multiple reboots (>100) that the
information reported by the Raydium touchscreen device during probe
is correct.

Some 2-in-1s which use the soc_button_array driver have this ugly issue in
their DSDT where the _LID method modifies the irq-type settings of the
GPIOs used for the power and home buttons. The intend of this AML code is
to disable these buttons when the lid is closed.
The AML does this by directly poking the GPIO controllers registers. This
is problematic because when re-enabling the irq, which happens whenever
_LID gets called with the lid open (e.g. on boot and on resume), it sets
the irq-type to IRQ_TYPE_LEVEL_LOW. Where as the gpio-keys driver programs
the type to, and expects it to be, IRQ_TYPE_EDGE_BOTH.
This commit adds a workaround for this which (on affected devices) does
not set gpio_keys_button.gpio on these 2-in-1s, instead it gets the irq for
the GPIO, configures it as IRQ_TYPE_LEVEL_LOW (to match how the _LID AML
code configures it) and passes the irq in gpio_keys_button.irq.

According to the Microsoft documentation for Windows 8 convertible
devices, these devices should implement a PNP0C60 "laptop/slate mode state
indicator" ACPI device.
This device can work in 2 ways, if there is a GPIO which directly
indicates the device is in tablet-mode or not then the direct-gpio mode
should be used. If there is no such GPIO, but instead the events are
coming from e.g. the embedded-controller, then there should still be
a PNP0C60 ACPI device and event-injection should be used to send the
events. The drivers/platform/x86/intel-vbtn.c code is an example from
a standardized manner of doing the latter.
On various 2-in-1s with either a detachable keyboard, or with 360°
hinges, the direct GPIO mode is indicated by an ACPI device with a
HID of INT33D3, which contains a single GpioInt in its ACPI resource
table, which directly indicates if the device is in tablet-mode or not.
This commit adds support for this to the soc_button_array code, as
well as for the alternative ID9001 HID which some devices use
instead of the INT33D3 HID.

This is a preparation patch for adding support for Intel INT33D3
ACPI devices. These INT33D3 devices follow yet another Intel defined
(but not documented) ACPI GPIO button standard.
Unlike the ACPI GPIO button devices supported so far, the GPIO used in
the INT33D3 devices is active-high, rather then active-low.
This commit makes setting the gpio_keys_button.active_low flag
configurable through the soc_button_info struct and enables it for all
currently supported devices.

Expose model and fw_version via sysfs. Also query the model
in probe to make sure, that the I2C communication with the

This is a bit complicated, since EETI devices do not have

does not work. Sending the command and waiting for some time
is also not an option, since there might be touch events in
the mean time.
Last but not least we do not cache the results, since this

working as expected.

Currently the assignment of -ENOMEM to error is redundant because error
is not being read and -ENOMEM is being hard coded as an error return.
Fix this by returning the error code in variable 'error'; this also
allows the error code from a failed call to input_register_device to

Major things in here:
- lots and lots of IIO new drivers and frameworks added
- IIO driver fixes and updates
- lots of tiny coding style cleanups for staging drivers
- vc04_services major reworks and cleanups
We had 3 set of drivers move out of staging in this round as well:
- wilc1000 wireless driver moved out of staging
- speakup moved out of staging
- most USB driver moved out of staging
Full details are in the shortlog.
All of these have been in linux-next with no reported issues. The last

Pull tasklets API update from Kees Cook:
"These are the infrastructure updates needed to support converting the
tasklet API to something more modern (and hopefully for removal
further down the road).
There is a 300-patch series waiting in the wings to get set out to
subsystem maintainers, but these changes need to be present in the
kernel first. Since this has some treewide changes, I carried this
series for -next instead of paining Thomas with it in -tip, but it's
got his Ack.
This is similar to the timer_struct modernization from a while back,
but not nearly as messy (I hope). :)

Pull unicore32 removal from Mike Rapoport:
"Remove unicore32 support.
The unicore32 port do not seem maintained for a long time now, there
is no upstream toolchain that can create unicore32 binaries and all
the links to prebuilt toolchains for unicore32 are dead. Even
compilers that were available are not supported by the kernel anymore.
Guenter Roeck says:
"I have stopped building unicore32 images since v4.19 since there is
no available compiler that is still supported by the kernel. I am
surprised that support for it has not been removed from the kernel"
However, it's worth pointing out two things:
- Guan Xuetao is still listed as maintainer and asked for the port to
be kept around the last time Arnd suggested removing it two years
ago. He promised that there would be compiler sources (presumably
llvm), but has not made those available since.
- https://github.com/gxt has patches to linux-4.9 and qemu-2.7, both
released in 2016, with patches dated early 2019. These patches
mainly restore a syscall ABI that was never part of mainline Linux
but apparently used in production. qemu-2.8 removed support for
that ABI and newer kernels (4.19+) can no longer be built with the
old toolchain, so apparently there will not be any future updates
to that git tree"

The workaround of reading all messages until an invalid is received is a
way of forcing the CHG line high, which means that when using
edge-triggered interrupts the interrupt can be acquired.
With level-triggered interrupts the workaround is unnecessary.
Also, most recent maXTouch chips have a feature called RETRIGEN which, when
enabled, reasserts the interrupt line every cycle if there are messages
waiting. This also makes the workaround unnecessary.
Note: the RETRIGEN feature is only in some firmware versions/chips, it's
not valid simply to enable the bit.

Newer controllers (identified as "pattern" version 2) send higher
resolution reports, with 16-bit X and Y coordinates (previous generations
used 12-bit values). These new high resolution reports use report ID of
0x60.
SMbus controllers use the same buffer size for both the new and old
reports, and because of that high resolution reports no longer carry
area of contact data with SMbus.

Some new devices, but particularly good this time is the core rework coming

parts are motivated by closing down common mistakes in new drivers.

* Add missed patch to actually remove iio_priv_to_dev and as a result

* Assign parent device in the core rather than every driver. A few devices
need to provide specific non standard parents, so there is support for
overriding.
* Start to take parts of struct iio_dev opaque to the drivers.
This will be a long term job, but should reduce the number of drivers
we get that use parts that are currently only 'internal' by documentation.

hard part here was getting all the drivers into canonical form so there

Using uninitialized_var() is dangerous as it papers over real bugs[1]
(or can in the future), and suppresses unrelated compiler warnings
(e.g. "unused variable"). If the compiler thinks it is uninitialized,
either simply initialize the variable or make compiler changes.
In preparation for removing[2] the[3] macro[4], remove all remaining
needless uses with the following script:
git grep '\buninitialized_var\b' | cut -d: -f1 | sort -u | \
xargs perl -pi -e \
's/\buninitialized_var\(([^\)]+)\)/\1/g;
s:\s*/\* (GCC be quiet|to make compiler happy) \*/$::g;'
drivers/video/fbdev/riva/riva_hw.c was manually tweaked to avoid
pathological white-space.
No outstanding warnings were found building allmodconfig with GCC 9.3.0
for x86_64, i386, arm64, arm, powerpc, powerpc64le, s390x, mips, sparc64,
alpha, and m68k.

Pull input fixes from Dmitry Torokhov:
"A few quirks for the Elan touchpad driver, another Thinkpad is being
switched over from PS/2 to native RMI4 interface, and we gave a brand
new SW_MACHINE_COVER switch definition"
* 'for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/dtor/input:
Input: elan_i2c - add more hardware ID for Lenovo laptops
Input: i8042 - add Lenovo XiaoXin Air 12 to i8042 nomux list
Revert "Input: elants_i2c - report resolution information for touch major"
Input: elan_i2c - only increment wakeup count on touch
Input: synaptics - enable InterTouch for ThinkPad X1E 1st gen
ARM: dts: n900: remove mmc1 card detect gpio
Input: add `SW_MACHINE_COVER`
This fixes two finger trackpad scroll on the Lenovo XiaoXin Air 12.
Without nomux, the trackpad behaves as if only one finger is present and
moves the cursor when trying to scroll.

The variable error is being initialized with a value that is
never read and it is being updated later with a new value. The
initialization is redundant and can be removed.

This reverts commit 0617067163 - it turns
out that the resolution of 1 unit per mm was not correct for a number of
touch screens, causing touch sizes to be reported as way too large.

This moves the wakeup increment for elan devices to the touch report.
This prevents the drivers from incorrectly reporting a wakeup when the
resume callback resets then device, which causes an interrupt to
occur.

this on, though it might just be placebo.

The unicore32 port is removed from the kernel.
There is no point to keep stale definitions to support this architecture.
