Once the dma request is passed to the DMA engine, the DMA subsystem
would hold a pointer to this structure and could call the completion
callback after do_dma_request() has timed out.
The current code deals with this by putting timed out SYNC requests to a
pending list and freeing them later, when the mport cdev device is
released. This still does not guarantee that the DMA subsystem is
really done with those transfers, so in theory
dma_xfer_callback/dma_req_free could be called after
mport_cdev_release_dma and could potentially access already freed
memory.
This patch simplifies the current handling by using a kref in the mport
dma request structure, so that it gets freed only when nobody uses it
anymore.
This also simplifies the code a bit, as FAF transfers are now handled in
the same way as SYNC and ASYNC transfers. There is no need anymore for
the pending list and for the dma workqueue which was used in case of FAF
transfers, so we remove them both.

This is the mindless scripted replacement of kernel use of POLL*
variables as described by Al, done by this script:
for V in IN OUT PRI ERR RDNORM RDBAND WRNORM WRBAND HUP RDHUP NVAL MSG; do
L=`git grep -l -w POLL$V | grep -v '^t' | grep -v /um/ | grep -v '^sa' | grep -v '/poll.h$'|grep -v '^D'`
for f in $L; do sed -i "-es/^\([^\"]*\)\(\<POLL$V\>\)/\\1E\\2/" $f; done
done
with de-mangling cleanups yet to come.
NOTE! On almost all architectures, the EPOLL* constants have the same
values as the POLL* constants do. But they keyword here is "almost".
For various bad reasons they aren't the same, and epoll() doesn't
actually work quite correctly in some cases due to this on Sparc et al.
The next patch from Al will sort out the final differences, and we
should be all done.

Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
- file had no licensing information it it.
- file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
- file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
lines of source
- File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 11139
and resulted in the first patch in this series.
If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH
Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930
and resulted in the second patch in this series.
- if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one
of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if
any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in
it (per prior point). Results summary:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270
GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17
LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15
GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14
((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5
LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4
LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1
and that resulted in the third patch in this series.
- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

Backmerge tag 'v4.14-rc7' into drm-next
Linux 4.14-rc7
Requested by Ben Skeggs for nouveau to avoid major conflicts,
and things were getting a bit conflicty already, esp around amdgpu
reverts.
Locking of config and doorbell operations should be done only if the
underlying hardware requires it.
This patch removes the global spinlocks from the rapidio subsystem and
moves them to the mport drivers (fsl_rio and tsi721), only to the
necessary places. For example, local config space read and write
operations (lcread/lcwrite) are atomic in all existing drivers, so there
should be no need for locking, while the cread/cwrite operations which
generate maintenance transactions need to be synchronized with a lock.
Later, each driver could chose to use a per-port lock instead of a
global one, or even more granular locking.

Scatterlist entries have an unsigned int for the offset so
correct the sg_alloc_table_from_pages function accordingly.
Since these are offsets withing a page, unsigned int is
wide enough.
Also converts callers which were using unsigned long locally
with the lower_32_bits annotation to make it explicitly
clear what is happening.

Here is the big set of new char/misc driver drivers and features for

There's lots of new drivers added this time around, new firmware drivers
from Google, more auxdisplay drivers, extcon drivers, fpga drivers, and
a bunch of other driver updates. Nothing major, except if you happen to
have the hardware for these drivers, and then you will be happy :)

kbuild test robot reported a non-static variable name collision between

Both drivers should be changed so that they don't use this generic

Instead of creating switch-specific attributes by hand, implement
is_visible() method of attribute group and hide them when dealing with
non-switch devices. This will ensure that all attributes are created
together, before userspace gets notified of new device.
Also, remove rio-sysfs.c from list of files that are scanned when compiling
RapiodIO documentations as it no longer has any structured comments, and
leaving it in leads to warning when building docs.

Original patch: https://lkml.org/lkml/2016/8/4/32
If riocm_ch_alloc() fails then we end up dereferencing the error
pointer.
The problem is that we're not unwinding in the reverse order from how we
allocate things so it gets confusing. I've changed this around so now
"ch" is NULL when we are done with it after we call riocm_put_channel().
That way we can check if it's NULL and avoid calling riocm_put_channel()
on it twice.
I renamed err_nodev to err_put_new_ch so that it better reflects what
the goto does.
Then because we had flipping things around, it means we don't neeed to
initialize the pointers to NULL and we can remove an if statement and
pull things in an indent level.

Patch series "RapidIO subsystem updates".
This set of patches contains RapidIO subsystem fixes and updates that
have been made since kernel v4.6. The most significant update brings
changes related to the latest revision of RapidIO specification
(rev.3.x) and introduction of next generation of RapidIO switches by IDT
(RXS1632 and RXS2448).
This patch (of 13):
This is RapidIO part of the original patch submitted by Joe Perches.

Add channelized messaging driver to support native RapidIO messaging
exchange between multiple senders/recipients on devices that use kernel
RapidIO subsystem services.
This device driver is the result of collaboration within the RapidIO.org
Software Task Group (STG) between Texas Instruments, Prodrive
Technologies, Nokia Networks, BAE and IDT. Additional input was
received from other members of RapidIO.org.
The objective was to create a character mode driver interface which
exposes messaging capabilities of RapidIO endpoint devices (mports)
directly to applications, in a manner that allows the numerous and
varied RapidIO implementations to interoperate.
This char mode device driver allows user-space applications to setup
messaging communication channels using single shared RapidIO messaging
mailbox.
By default this driver uses RapidIO MBOX_1 (MBOX_0 is reserved for use by
RIONET Ethernet emulation driver).

Add RapidIO controller (mport) outbound window configuration operations.
This patch is a part of the original patch submitted by Li Yang:
https://lists.ozlabs.org/pipermail/linuxppc-dev/2009-April/071210.html
For some reason the original part was not applied to mainline code
tree. The inbound window mapping part has been applied later during
tsi721 mport driver submission. Now goes the second part with
corresponding HW support.

Add new Port Write handler registration interfaces that attach PW
handlers to local mport device objects. This is different from old
interface that attaches PW callback to individual RapidIO device. The
new interfaces are intended for use for common event handling (e.g.
hot-plug notifications) while the old interface is available for
individual device drivers.
This patch is based on patch proposed by Andre van Herk but preserves
existing per-device interface and adds lock protection for list
handling.

Rework Tsi721 RapidIO DMA engine support to allow handling data
scatter/gather lists longer than number of hardware buffer descriptors in
the DMA channel's descriptor list.
The current implementation of Tsi721 DMA transfers requires that number of
entries in a scatter/gather list provided by a caller of
dmaengine_prep_rio_sg() should not exceed number of allocated hardware
buffer descriptors.
This patch removes the limitation by processing long scatter/gather lists
by sections that can be transferred using hardware descriptor ring of
configured size. It also introduces a module parameter
"dma_desc_per_channel" to allow run-time configuration of Tsi721 hardware
buffer descriptor rings.

This is a bug fix for the situation when function tsi721_desc_get() fails
to obtain a free transaction descriptor.

scatter-gather list has more entries than size of hardware buffer

caller instead of an invalid entry.

This patch removes an artificial RapidIO bus root device and establishes
actual device hierarchy by providing reference to real parent devices.
It also introduces device class for RapidIO controller devices (on-chip
or an eternal bridge, known as "mport").
Existing implementation was sufficient for SoC-based platforms that have
a single RapidIO controller. With introduction of devices using
multiple RapidIO controllers and PCIe-to-RapidIO bridges the old scheme
is very limiting or does not work at all. The implemented changes allow
to properly reference platform's local RapidIO mport devices and provide
device details needed for upper layers.
This change to RapidIO device hierarchy does not break any known
existing kernel or user space interfaces.

This patch is a modification of the patch originally proposed by
Xiaotian Feng <xtfeng@gmail.com>: https://lkml.org/lkml/2012/11/5/413
This new version disables DMA channel interrupts and ensures that the
tasklet wil not be scheduled again before calling tasklet_kill().
Unfortunately the updated patch was not released at that time due to
planned rework of Tsi721 mport driver to use threaded interrupts (which
has yet to happen). Recently the issue was reported again:
https://lkml.org/lkml/2014/2/19/762.
Description from the original Xiaotian's patch:
"Some drivers use tasklet_disable in device remove/release process,
tasklet_disable will inc tasklet->count and return. If the tasklet is
not handled yet under some softirq pressure, the tasklet will be
placed on the tasklet_vec, never have a chance to be excuted. This
might lead to a heavy loaded ksoftirqd, wakeup with pending_softirq,
but tasklet is disabled. tasklet_kill should be used in this case."
This patch is applicable to kernel versions starting from v3.5.

Change endpoint device name format to use a component tag value instead of
device destination ID.
RapidIO specification defines a component tag to be a unique identifier
for devices in a network. RapidIO switches already use component tag as
part of their device name and also use it for device identification when
processing error management event notifications.
Forming an endpoint's device name using its component tag instead of
destination ID allows to keep sysfs device directories unchanged in case
if a routing process dynamically changes endpoint's destination ID as a
result of route optimization.
This change should not affect any existing users because a valid device
destination ID always should be obtained by reading "destid" attribute and
not by parsing device name.
This patch also removes switchid member from struct rio_switch because it
simply duplicates the component tag and does not have other use than in
device name generation.

Update enumeration/discovery method registration mechanism to allow
loading enumeration/discovery methods before all mports are registered.
Existing statically linked RapidIO subsystem expects that all available
RapidIO mport devices are initialized and registered before the
enumeration/discovery method is registered. Switching to loadable mport
device drivers creates situation when mport device driver can be loaded
after enumeration/discovery method is attached (e.g., loadable mport
driver in a system with statically linked RapidIO core and enumerator).
This also will happen in a system with hot-pluggable RapidIO controllers.
To remove the dependency on the initialization/registration order this
patch introduces enumeration/discovery registration mechanism that
supports arbitrary registration order of mports and enumerator/discovery
methods.
The following registration rules are implemented:
- only one enumeration/discovery method can be registered for given mport ID
(including RIO_MPORT_ANY);
- when new enumeration/discovery methods tries to attach to the registered mport
device, method with matching mport ID will replace a default method previously
registered for given mport (if any);
- enumeration/discovery method with target ID=RIO_MPORT_ANY will be attached
only to mports that do not have another enumerator attached to them;
- when new mport device is registered with RapidIO subsystem, registration
routine searches for the enumeration/discovery method with the best matching
mport ID;

Rework RapidIO switch drivers to add an option to build them as loadable
kernel modules.
This patch removes RapidIO-specific vmlinux section and converts switch
drivers to be compatible with LDM driver registration method. To simplify
registration of device-specific callback routines this patch introduces
rio_switch_ops data structure. The sw_sysfs() callback is removed from
the list of device-specific operations because under the new structure its
functions can be handled by switch driver's probe() and remove() routines.
If a specific switch device driver is not loaded the RapidIO subsystem
core will use default standard-based operations to configure a switch.
Because the current implementation of RapidIO enumeration/discovery method
relies on availability of device-specific operations for error management,
switch device drivers must be loaded before the RapidIO
enumeration/discovery starts.
This patch also moves several common routines from enumeration/discovery
module into the RapidIO core code to make switch-specific operations
accessible to all components of RapidIO subsystem.
