If the firmware returns an error such as "closed" (or hardware
error), we should drop characters.
Currently we only do that when a firmware compatible with OPAL v2
APIs is detected, in the code that calls opal_console_write_buffer_space(),
which didn't exist with OPAL v1 (or didn't work).
However, when enabling early debug consoles, the flag indicating
that v2 is supported isn't set yet, causing us, in case of errors
or closed console, to spin forever.

I badly screwed up the merge in commit 6fa52ed33b ("Merge tag
'drivers-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/.../arm-soc") by
incorrectly taking the arch/arm/mach-omap2/* data fully from the merge
target because the 'drivers-for-linus' branch seemed to be a proper
superset of the duplicate ARM commits.
That was bogus: commit ff931c821b ("ARM: OMAP: clocks: Delay clk inits
atleast until slab is initialized") only existed in head, and the
changes to arch/arm/mach-omap2/timer.c from that commit got list.
Re-doing the merge more carefully, I do think this part was the only
thing I screwed up. Knock wood.

Current GPIO chip implementation in octeon-irq is still broken, even after upstream
commit 87161ccdc6 (MIPS: Octeon: Fix broken interrupt
controller code). It works for GPIO IRQs that have reset-default configuration, but
not for edge-triggered ones.
The problem is in octeon_irq_gpio_map_common(), which passes modified "hw" variable
(which has range of possible values 16..31) as "gpio_line" parameter to
octeon_irq_set_ciu_mapping(), which saves it in private data of the IRQ chip. Later,
neither octeon_irq_gpio_setup() is able to re-configure GPIOs (cvmx_write_csr() is
writing to non-existent CVMX_GPIO_BIT_CFGX), nor octeon_irq_ciu_gpio_ack() is able
to acknowledge such IRQ, because "mask" is incorrect.
Fix is trivial and has been tested on Cavium Octeon II -based board, including
both level-triggered and edge-triggered GPIO IRQs.

Currently, init_new_context() only for each online CPU, this may cause
memory corruption when CPU hotplug and fork() happens at the same time.
To avoid this, we make init_new_context() cover each possible CPU.
Scenario:
1, CPU#1 is being offline;
2, On CPU#0, do_fork() call dup_mm() and copy a mm_struct to the child;
3, On CPU#0, dup_mm() call init_new_context(), since CPU#1 is offline
and init_new_context() only covers the online CPUs, child has the
same asid as its parent on CPU#1 (however, child's asid should be 0);
4, CPU#1 is being online;
5, Now, if both parent and child run on CPU#1, memory corruption (e.g.
segfault, bus error, etc.) will occur.

This and the next patch resolve memory corruption problems while CPU
hotplug. Without these patches, memory corruption can triggered easily
as below:
On a quad-core MIPS platform, use "spawn" of UnixBench-5.1.3 (http://
code.google.com/p/byte-unixbench/) and a CPU hotplug script like this
(hotplug.sh):
while true; do
echo 0 >/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/online
echo 0 >/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu2/online
echo 0 >/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu3/online
sleep 1
echo 1 >/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/online
echo 1 >/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu2/online
echo 1 >/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu3/online
sleep 1
done
Run "hotplug.sh" and then run "spawn 10000", spawn will get segfault
after a few minutes.
This patch:
Currently, clear_page()/copy_page() are generated by Micro-assembler
dynamically. But they are unavailable until uasm_resolve_relocs() has
finished because jump labels are illegal before that. Since these
functions are shared by every CPU, we only call build_clear_page()/
build_copy_page() only once at boot time. Without this patch, programs
will get random memory corruption (segmentation fault, bus error, etc.)
while CPU Hotplug (e.g. one CPU is using clear_page() while another is
generating it in cpu_cache_init()).
For similar reasons we modify build_tlb_refill_handler()'s invocation.
V2:
1, Rework the code to make CPU#0 can be online/offline.
2, Introduce cpu_has_local_ebase feature since some types of MIPS CPU
need a per-CPU tlb_refill_handler().

Note that the PB1100 code in the Au1100 LCD driver is removed entirely

the macros it uses (PB1100_G_CONTROL, PB1100_G_CONTROL_BL, and

This patch adds a new udbg early debug console which utilises
statically defined input and output buffers stored within the kernel
BSS. It is primarily designed to assist with bring up of new hardware
which may not have a working console but which has a method of
reading/writing kernel memory.
This version incorporates comments made by Ben H (thanks!).
Changes from v1:
- Add memory barriers.
- Ensure updating of read/write positions is atomic.

Default kernel stack size on parisc is 16k. During tests we found that the
kernel stack can easily grow beyond 13k, which leaves 3k left for irq
processing.
This patch adds the possibility to activate an additional stack of 16k per CPU
which is being used during irq processing. This implementation does not yet
uses this irq stack for the irq bh handler.
The assembler code for call_on_stack was heavily cleaned up by John
David Anglin.

Add the CONFIG_DEBUG_STACKOVERFLOW config option to enable checks to
detect kernel stack overflows.
Stack overflows can not be detected reliable since we do not want to
introduce too much overhead.
Instead, during irq processing in do_cpu_irq_mask() we check kernel
stack usage of the interrupted kernel process. Kernel threads can be
easily detected by checking the value of space register 7 (sr7) which
is zero when running inside the kernel.
Since THREAD_SIZE is 16k and PAGE_SIZE is 4k, reduce the alignment of
the init thread to the lower value (PAGE_SIZE) in the kernel
vmlinux.ld.S linker script.

Helge and I have found that we have a kernel stack overflow problem
which causes a variety of random failures.
Currently, we re-enable interrupts when returning from an external
interrupt incase we need to schedule or delivery
signals. As a result, a potentially unlimited number of interrupts
can occur while we are running on the kernel
stack. It is very limited in space (currently, 16k). This change
defers enabling interrupts until we have
actually decided to schedule or delivery signals. This only occurs
when we about to return to userspace. This
limits the number of interrupts on the kernel stack to one. In other
cases, interrupts remain disabled until the
final return from interrupt (rfi).

These continue the multiplatform support for exynos, adding support
for building most of the essential drivers (clocksource, clk, irqchip)
when combined with other platforms. As a result, it should become
really easy to add full multiplatform exynos support in 3.11, although
we don't yet enable it for 3.10.
The changes were not included in the earlier multiplatform series
in order to avoid clashes with the other Exynos updates.
This also includes work from Tomasz Figa to fix the pwm clocksource
code on Exynos, which is not strictly required for multiplatform,
but related to the other patches in this set and needed as a bug
fix for at least one board.

These patches are all for Renesas shmobile, and depend on the earlier
pinctrl updates. Remarkably, this adds support for three new SoCs:
r8a73a4, r8a73a4 and r8a7778. The bulk of the code added for these is
for pinctrl (using the new subsystem) and for clocks (not yet using the
common clock subsystem). The latter will have to get converted in one
of the upcoming releases, but shmobile is not ready for that yet.
The series also contains Renesas shmobile board changes, adding one
board file for each of the three new SoCs. These boards are using a
mix of classic and device-tree based probing, as there is still a lot of
infrastructure in shmobile that has not been converted to DT yet. Once
those are resolved to the degree that no board specific setup code is
needed, they can get folded into the respective SoC setup files.

Pull ARM SoC platform updates (part 2) from Arnd Bergmann:
"These patches are all for Renesas shmobile, and depend on the earlier
pinctrl updates. Remarkably, this adds support for three new SoCs:
r8a73a4, r8a73a4 and r8a7778. The bulk of the code added for these is
for pinctrl (using the new subsystem) and for clocks (not yet using
the common clock subsystem). The latter will have to get converted in
one of the upcoming releases, but shmobile is not ready for that yet.
The series also contains Renesas shmobile board changes, adding one
board file for each of the three new SoCs. These boards are using a
mix of classic and device-tree based probing, as there is still a lot
of infrastructure in shmobile that has not been converted to DT yet.
Once those are resolved to the degree that no board specific setup
code is needed, they can get folded into the respective SoC setup files."

modify __down_write[_nested] and __down_write_trylock to grab the write
lock whenever the active count is 0, even if there are queued waiters
(they must be writers pending wakeup, since the active count is 0).
Note that this is an optimization only; architectures without this
optimization will still work fine:
- __down_write() would take the slow path which would take the wait_lock
and then try stealing the lock (as in the spinlocked rwsem implementation)
- __down_write_trylock() would fail, but callers must be ready to deal
with that - since there are some writers pending wakeup, they could
have raced with us and obtained the lock before we steal it.

flush_dcache_page( ) is MM hook to ensure that a page has consistent
views between kernel and userspace. Thus it is called when
* kernel writes to a page which at some later point could get mapped to
userspace (so kernel mapping needs to be flushed-n-inv)
* kernel is about to read from a page with possible userspace mappings
(so userspace mappings needs to be made coherent with kernel ones)
However for Non aliasing VIPT dcache, any userspace mapping will always
be congruent to kernel mapping. Thus d-cache need need not be flushed at
all (or delayed indefinitely).
The only reason it does need to be flushed is when mapping code pages.
Since icache doesn't snoop dcache, those dirty dcache lines need to be
written back to memory and icache line invalidated so that icache lines
fetch will get the right data.
Decent gains on LMBench fork/exec/sh and File I/O micro-benchmarks.

Also rename flush_icache_range_vaddr => __sync_icache_dcache
Signed-off-by: Vineet Gupta <vgupta@synopsys.com>
This change continues the theme from prev commit - this time icache
handling for kernel's own code modification (vmalloc: loadable modules,
breakpoints for kprobes/kgdb...)
flush_icache_range() calls the CDU icache helper with vaddr to enable
exact line invalidate.
For a true kernel-virtual mapping, the vaddr is actually virtual hence
valid as index into cache. For kprobes breakpoint however, the vaddr arg
is actually paddr - since that's how normal kernel is mapped in ARC
memory map. This implies that CDU will use the same addr for
indexing as for tag match - which is fine since kernel code would only
have that "implicit" mapping and none other.
This should speed up module loading significantly - specially on default
ARC700 icache configurations (32k) which alias.
Signed-off-by: Vineet Gupta <vgupta@synopsys.com>
ARC icache doesn't snoop dcache thus executable pages need to be made
coherent before mapping into userspace in flush_icache_page().
However ARC700 CDU (hardware cache flush module) requires both vaddr
(index in cache) as well as paddr (tag match) to correctly identify a
line in the VIPT cache. A typical ARC700 SoC has aliasing icache, thus
the paddr only based flush_icache_page() API couldn't be implemented
efficiently. It had to loop thru all possible alias indexes and perform
the invalidate operation (ofcourse the cache op would only succeed at
the index(es) where tag matches - typically only 1, but the cost of
visiting all the cache-bins needs to paid nevertheless).
Turns out however that the vaddr (along with paddr) is available in
update_mmu_cache() hence better suits ARC icache flush semantics.
With both vaddr+paddr, exactly one flush operation per line is done.

munmap ends up calling tlb_flush() which for ARC was flushing the entire
TLB unconditionally (by moving the MMU to a new ASID)
do_munmap
unmap_region
unmap_vmas
unmap_single_vma
unmap_page_range
tlb_start_vma
zap_pud_range
tlb_end_vma()
tlb_finish_mmu
tlb_flush() ---> unconditional flush_tlb_mm()
So even a single page munmap, a frequent operation when uClibc dynamic
linker (ldso) is loading the dependent shared libraries, would move the
the ASID multiple times - needlessly invalidating the pre-faulted TLB
entries (and increasing the rate of ASID wraparound + full TLB flush).
This is now optimised to only be called if tlb->full_mm (which means
for exit/execve) cases only. And for those cases, flush_tlb_mm() is
already optimised to be a no-op for mm->mm_users == 0.
So essentially there are no mmore full mm flushes - except for fork which
anyhow needs it for properly COW'ing parent address space.
munmap now needs to do TLB range flush, which is implemented with
tlb_end_vma()

arc-intc is initialized in arc common code as it is applicable to all
platforms. However platforms with their own external intc still need to
refer to it for correct DT interrupt tree hierarchy setup,
e.g.
static struct of_device_id __initdata tb10x_irq_ids[] = {
{ .compatible = "snps,arc700-intc", .data = dummy_init_irq },
{ .compatible = "abilis,tb10x_ictl", .data = tb10x_init_irq },
{},
};
The fix is to use the generic irqchip framework to tie all irqchips in
a special linker section and then call irqchip_init() which calls the
DT of_irq_init() for all the intc in one go.
That way the platform code need not be aware of arc-intc at all.

* uboot provided bootargs were copied into @boot_command_line, only to

If hard_irq_disable() is called while interrupts are already soft-disabled
(which is the most common case) all is already well.
However you can (and in some cases want) to call it while everything is
enabled (to make sure you don't get a lazy even, for example before entry
into KVM guests) and in this case we need to inform the irq tracer that
the irqs are going off.
We have to change the inline into a macro to avoid an include circular
dependency hell hole.

The updates are mostly about the x86 IOMMUs this time. Exceptions are
the groundwork for the PAMU IOMMU from Freescale (for a PPC platform)
and an extension to the IOMMU group interface. On the x86 side this
includes a workaround for VT-d to disable interrupt remapping on broken
chipsets. On the AMD-Vi side the most important new feature is a kernel
command-line interface to override broken information in IVRS ACPI
tables and get interrupt remapping working this way. Besides that there
are small fixes all over the place.

This patch fixes partly PAGE_SIZEs of 16K or 64K by adjusting the
assembler PTE lookup code and the assembler TEMPALIAS code. Furthermore
some data alignments for PAGE_SIZE have been limited to 4K (or less) to
not waste too much memory with greater page sizes. As a side note, the
palo loader can (currently) only handle up to 10 ELF segments which is
fixed with tighter aligning as well.
My testings indicated that the ldci command in the sba iommu coding
needed adjustment by the PAGE_SHIFT value and that the I/O PDIR Page
size was only set to 4K for my machine (C3000).
All this fixes partly the boot, but there are still quite some caching
problems left. Examples are e.g. the symbios logic driver which is
failing:
sym0: <896> rev 0x7 at pci 0000:00:0f.0 irq 69
sym0: PA-RISC Firmware, ID 7, Fast-40, SE, parity checking
CACHE TEST FAILED: DMA error (dstat=0x81).sym0: CACHE INCORRECTLY CONFIGURED.
and the tulip network driver which doesn't seem to work correctly
either:
Sending BOOTP requests .net eth0: Setting full-duplex based on MII#1
link partner capability of 05e1
..... timed out!
Beside those kernel fixes glibc will need fixes too to be able to handle
>4K page sizes.

and hang. The RCU mechanism would kick in an try to IPI the CPU1
but the IPIs (and all other interrupts) would never arrive at the
CPU1. At first glance at least. A bit digging in the hypervisor
trace shows that (using xenanalyze):

0.043163027 --|x d4v1 intr_window vec 243 src 5(vector) intr f3

0.043166800 --|x d4v1 inj_virq vec 243 real
[vla] d4v1 vec 243 injecting
there is a pending event (subsequent debugging shows it is the IPI
from the VCPU0 when smpboot.c on VCPU1 has done
"set_cpu_online(smp_processor_id(), true)") and the guest VCPU1 is
interrupted with the callback IPI (0xf3 aka 243) which ends up calling
__xen_evtchn_do_upcall.
The __xen_evtchn_do_upcall seems to do *something* but not acknowledge
the pending events. And the moment the guest does a 'cli' (that is the
ffffffff81673254 in the log above) the hypervisor is invoked again to
inject the IPI (0xf3) to tell the guest it has pending interrupts.
This repeats itself forever.
The culprit was the per_cpu(xen_vcpu, cpu) pointer. At the bootup
we set each per_cpu(xen_vcpu, cpu) to point to the
shared_info->vcpu_info[vcpu] but later on use the VCPUOP_register_vcpu_info
to register per-CPU structures (xen_vcpu_setup).
This is used to allow events for more than 32 VCPUs and for performance
optimizations reasons.
When the user performs the VCPU hotplug we end up calling the
the xen_vcpu_setup once more. We make the hypercall which returns
-EINVAL as it does not allow multiple registration calls (and
already has re-assigned where the events are being set). We pick
the fallback case and set per_cpu(xen_vcpu, cpu) to point to the
shared_info->vcpu_info[vcpu] (which is a good fallback during bootup).
However the hypervisor is still setting events in the register
per-cpu structure (per_cpu(xen_vcpu_info, cpu)).
As such when the events are set by the hypervisor (such as timer one),
and when we iterate in __xen_evtchn_do_upcall we end up reading stale
events from the shared_info->vcpu_info[vcpu] instead of the
per_cpu(xen_vcpu_info, cpu) structures. Hence we never acknowledge the
events that the hypervisor has set and the hypervisor keeps on reminding
us to ack the events which we never do.
The fix is simple. Don't on the second time when xen_vcpu_setup is
called over-write the per_cpu(xen_vcpu, cpu) if it points to
per_cpu(xen_vcpu_info).

The PCI core supports an offset per aperture nowadays but our arch
code still has a single offset per host bridge representing the
difference betwen CPU memory addresses and PCI MMIO addresses.
This is a problem as new machines and hypervisor versions are
coming out where the 64-bit windows will have a different offset
(basically mapped 1:1) from the 32-bit windows.
This fixes it by using separate offsets. In the long run, we probably
want to get rid of that intermediary struct pci_controller and have
those directly stored into the pci_host_bridge as they are parsed
but this will be a more invasive change.

Some devices don't have a correct node ID and thus can't be
attached to an iommu.
The message displayed by the iommu code isn't very useful if
you don't have a device-tree node as it tries to print the
device-tree path but not the struct device name.

Some interrupt controllers refuse to map interrupts marked as
"protected" by firwmare. Since we try to map everyting in the
device-tree on some platforms, we end up with a lot of nasty
WARN's in the boot log for what is a normal situation on those
machines.
This defines a specific return code (-EPERM) from the host map()
callback which cause irqdomain to fail silently.
MPIC is updated to return this when hitting a protected source
printing only a single line message for diagnostic purposes.

Currently, the OPAL exception vectors are registered before the feature
fixups are processed. This means that the now-firmware-owned vectors
will likely be overwritten by the kernel.
This change moves the exception registration code to an early initcall,
rather than at machine_init time.

POWER8 allows read and write of the DSCR in userspace. We added
kernel emulation so applications could always use the instructions
regardless of the CPU type.
Unfortunately there are two SPRs for the DSCR and we only added
emulation for the privileged one. Add code to match the non
privileged one.
A simple test was created to verify the fix:

Without the patch we get a SIGILL and it passes with the patch.

Pull 'full dynticks' support from Ingo Molnar:
"This tree from Frederic Weisbecker adds a new, (exciting! :-) core
kernel feature to the timer and scheduler subsystems: 'full dynticks',
or CONFIG_NO_HZ_FULL=y.
This feature extends the nohz variable-size timer tick feature from
idle to busy CPUs (running at most one task) as well, potentially
reducing the number of timer interrupts significantly.
This feature got motivated by real-time folks and the -rt tree, but
the general utility and motivation of full-dynticks runs wider than
that:
- HPC workloads get faster: CPUs running a single task should be able
to utilize a maximum amount of CPU power. A periodic timer tick at
HZ=1000 can cause a constant overhead of up to 1.0%. This feature
removes that overhead - and speeds up the system by 0.5%-1.0% on
typical distro configs even on modern systems.
- Real-time workload latency reduction: CPUs running critical tasks
should experience as little jitter as possible. The last remaining
source of kernel-related jitter was the periodic timer tick.
- A single task executing on a CPU is a pretty common situation,
especially with an increasing number of cores/CPUs, so this feature
helps desktop and mobile workloads as well.
The cost of the feature is mainly related to increased timer
reprogramming overhead when a CPU switches its tick period, and thus
slightly longer to-idle and from-idle latency.
Configuration-wise a third mode of operation is added to the existing
two NOHZ kconfig modes:
- CONFIG_HZ_PERIODIC: [formerly !CONFIG_NO_HZ], now explicitly named
as a config option. This is the traditional Linux periodic tick
design: there's a HZ tick going on all the time, regardless of
whether a CPU is idle or not.
- CONFIG_NO_HZ_IDLE: [formerly CONFIG_NO_HZ=y], this turns off the
periodic tick when a CPU enters idle mode.
- CONFIG_NO_HZ_FULL: this new mode, in addition to turning off the
tick when a CPU is idle, also slows the tick down to 1 Hz (one
timer interrupt per second) when only a single task is running on a
CPU.
The .config behavior is compatible: existing !CONFIG_NO_HZ and
CONFIG_NO_HZ=y settings get translated to the new values, without the
user having to configure anything. CONFIG_NO_HZ_FULL is turned off by
default.
This feature is based on a lot of infrastructure work that has been
steadily going upstream in the last 2-3 cycles: related RCU support
and non-periodic cputime support in particular is upstream already.
This tree adds the final pieces and activates the feature. The pull
request is marked RFC because:
- it's marked 64-bit only at the moment - the 32-bit support patch is
small but did not get ready in time.
- it has a number of fresh commits that came in after the merge
window. The overwhelming majority of commits are from before the
merge window, but still some aspects of the tree are fresh and so I
marked it RFC.
- it's a pretty wide-reaching feature with lots of effects - and
while the components have been in testing for some time, the full
combination is still not very widely used. That it's default-off
should reduce its regression abilities and obviously there are no
known regressions with CONFIG_NO_HZ_FULL=y enabled either.
- the feature is not completely idempotent: there is no 100%
equivalent replacement for a periodic scheduler/timer tick. In
particular there's ongoing work to map out and reduce its effects
on scheduler load-balancing and statistics. This should not impact
correctness though, there are no known regressions related to this
feature at this point.
- it's a pretty ambitious feature that with time will likely be
enabled by most Linux distros, and we'd like you to make input on
its design/implementation, if you dislike some aspect we missed.
Without flaming us to crisp! :-)
Future plans:
- there's ongoing work to reduce 1Hz to 0Hz, to essentially shut off
the periodic tick altogether when there's a single busy task on a
CPU. We'd first like 1 Hz to be exposed more widely before we go
for the 0 Hz target though.
- once we reach 0 Hz we can remove the periodic tick assumption from
nr_running>=2 as well, by essentially interrupting busy tasks only
as frequently as the sched_latency constraints require us to do -
once every 4-40 msecs, depending on nr_running.
I am personally leaning towards biting the bullet and doing this in
v3.10, like the -rt tree this effort has been going on for too long -
but the final word is up to you as usual.

commit d1669912 (idle: Implement generic idle function) added a new
generic idle along with support for hlt/nohlt command line options to
override default idle loop behavior. However, the command-line
processing is never compiled.
The command-line handling is wrapped by CONFIG_GENERIC_IDLE_POLL_SETUP
and arches that use this feature select it in their Kconfigs.
However, no Kconfig definition was created for this option, so it is
never enabled, and therefore command-line override of the idle-loop
behavior is broken after migrating to the generic idle loop.
To fix, add a Kconfig definition for GENERIC_IDLE_POLL_SETUP.
Tested on ARM (OMAP4/Panda) which enables the command-line overrides
by default.

Two platforms, bcm and exynos have their own firmware interfaces using
the "secure monitor call", this adds support for those.
We had originally planned to have a third set of patches in here, which
would extend support for the existing generic "psci" call that is used
on multiple platforms as well as Xen and KVM guests, but that ended up
getting dropped because the patches were not ready in time.

This is a rather large set of patches for device drivers that for one
reason or another the subsystem maintainer preferred to get merged
through the arm-soc tree. There are both new drivers as well as
existing drivers that are getting converted from platform-specific
code into standalone drivers using the appropriate subsystem
specific interfaces.
In particular, we can now have pinctrl, clk, clksource and irqchip
drivers in one file per driver, without the need to call into
platform specific interface, or to get called from platform specific
code, as long as all information about the hardware is provided
through a device tree.
Most of the drivers we touch this time are for clocksource. Since
now most of them are part of drivers/clocksource, I expect that we
won't have to touch these again from arm-soc and can let the
clocksource maintainers take care of these in the future.
Another larger part of this series is specific to the exynos platform,
which is seeing some significant effort in upstreaming and
modernization of its device drivers this time around, which
unfortunately is also the cause for the churn and a lot of the
merge conflicts.
There is one new subsystem that gets merged as part of this series:
the reset controller interface, which is a very simple interface
for taking devices on the SoC out of reset or back into reset.
Patches to use this interface on i.MX follow later in this merge
window, and we are going to have other platforms (at least tegra
and sirf) get converted in 3.11. This will let us get rid of
platform specific callbacks in a number of platform independent
device drivers.

Note: is_module_text_address() can potentially be quite
expensive; for those running into that with high overhead
in modules optimize it using an RCU backed rb-tree.

Commit 8a6201b9 (ARM: OMAP2+: Fix unmet direct dependencies for zoom
for 8250 serial) fixed unmet direct dependencies for 8250, but failed
to do the same for omap serial. This can cause the following warning:
warning: (ARCH_OMAP2PLUS_TYPICAL) selects SERIAL_OMAP which has
unmet direct dependencies (TTY && HAS_IOMEM && GENERIC_HARDIRQS &&

We should not select drivers, they should be selected by the

We are probably selecting more drivers than we should in ux500,
but cleaning up that logic for good can be left for another
time. Most of these could be converted into silent options in
the future, since they are always enabled on ux500 and never
needed elsewhere.
As a fixup for 3.10, let's at least select the dependencies for
the other drivers we already select, to make it consistent.

The Tilera hypervisor shipped in releases up through MDE 4.1 launches
the client operating system (i.e. Linux) at privilege level 1 (PL1).
Starting with MDE 4.2, as part of the work to enable KVM, the
Tilera hypervisor launches Linux at PL2 instead.
This commit makes the KERNEL_PL option default to 2 for tilegx, while
still saying at 1 for tilepro, which doesn't have an updated hypervisor.
It also explains how and when you might want to choose another value.
In addition, we change a small buglet in the on-chip Ethernet driver,
where we were failing to use the KERNEL_PL constant in an API call.
To make the transition cleaner, this change also provides the updated
hv_init() API for the new hypervisor that supports announcing Linux's
compiled-in PL, so the hypervisor can generate a suitable error in the
case of a mismatched hypervisor and Linux binary.

device_register() returns -ve values for errors, and zero for success.
There's no need to obfuscate the code with IS_ERR_VALUE().
Signed-off-by: Russell King <rmk+kernel@arm.linux.org.uk>
Consistently check errors using the usual method used in the kernel
for much of its history. For instance:
int gpmc_cs_set_timings(int cs, const struct gpmc_timings *t)
{
int div;
div = gpmc_calc_divider(t->sync_clk);
if (div < 0)
return div;
static int gpmc_set_async_mode(int cs, struct gpmc_timings *t)
{
...
return gpmc_cs_set_timings(cs, t);
.....
ret = gpmc_set_async_mode(gpmc_onenand_data->cs, &t);
if (IS_ERR_VALUE(ret))
return ret;
So, gpmc_cs_set_timings() thinks any negative return value is an error,
but where we check that in higher levels, only a limited range are
errors...
There is only _one_ use of IS_ERR_VALUE() in arch/arm which is really
appropriate, and that is in arch/arm/include/asm/syscall.h:
static inline long syscall_get_error(struct task_struct *task,
struct pt_regs *regs)
{
unsigned long error = regs->ARM_r0;
return IS_ERR_VALUE(error) ? error : 0;
}
because this function really does have to differentiate between error
return values and addresses which look like negative numbers (eg, from
mmap()).
So, here's a patch to remove them from OMAP, except for the above.
Acked-by: Tony Lindgren <tony@atomide.com>
Signed-off-by: Russell King <rmk+kernel@arm.linux.org.uk>
omap_hwmod_lookup() only returns NULL on error, never an error pointer.
Checking the returned pointer using IS_ERR_OR_NULL() is needless
overhead. Use a simple !ptr check instead.
OMAP devices (oh->od) always have a valid platform device attached (see
omap_device_alloc()) so there's no point validating the platform device
pointer (we will have already oopsed long before if this is not the
case here.)
Lastly, oh->od is only ever NULL or a valid omap device pointer - 'oh'
comes from the statically declared hwmod tables, and the pointer is
only filled in by omap_device_alloc() at a point where the omap device
pointer must be valid.

During early init, we would incorrectly set the NX bit even if the NX
feature was not supported. Instead, only set this bit if NX is
actually available and enabled. We already do very early detection of
the NX bit to enable it in EFER, this simply extends this detection to
the early page table mask.

The git commite7a5cd063c7b4c58417f674821d63f5eb6747e37
("x86-64, gdt: Store/load GDT for ACPI S3 or hibernate/resume path
is not needed.") assumes that for the hibernate path the booting
kernel and the resuming kernel MUST be the same. That is certainly
the case for a 32-bit kernel (see check_image_kernel and
CONFIG_ARCH_HIBERNATION_HEADER config option).
However for 64-bit kernels it is OK to have a different kernel
version (and size of the image) of the booting and resuming kernels.
Hence the above mentioned git commit introduces an regression.
This patch fixes it by introducing a 'struct desc_ptr gdt_desc'
back in the 'struct saved_context'. However instead of having in the
'save_processor_state' and 'restore_processor_state' the
store/load_gdt calls, we are only saving the GDT in the
save_processor_state.
For the restore path the lgdt operation is done in
hibernate_asm_[32|64].S in the 'restore_registers' path.
The apt reader of this description will recognize that only 64-bit
kernels need this treatment, not 32-bit. This patch adds the logic
in the 32-bit path to be more similar to 64-bit so that in the future
the unification process can take advantage of this.

Device-tree updates for 3.10. The bulk of the churn in this branch is due
to i.MX moving from C-defined pin control over to device tree, which is
a one-time conversion that will allow greater flexibility down the road.
Besides that, there's PCI-e bindings for Marvell mvebu platforms and a
handful of cleanups to tegra due to the new include file functionality
of the device tree compiler.

Commit 0c2c99b1b "memory hotplug: Allow memory blocks to span
multiple memory sections" introduced a weak memory_block_size_bytes()
function which can be used to set the size of a memory block as
seen in sysfs.
Provide an s390 specific override which makes sure that each
memory block has at least a size of 256MB or the increment size of
of a memory increment, whatever is larger.
This way we can make sure that the number of memory sysfs objects
doesn't explode for very large memory configurations.

The current memory detection loop will detect all present memory of
a machine. This is true even if the user specified the "mem=" parameter
on the kernel command line.
This can be a problem since the memory detection may cause a fully
populated host page table for the guest, even for those parts of the
memory that the guest will never use afterwards.
So fix this and only detect memory up to a user supplied "mem=" limit
if specified.

When in kdump mode the kernel may access only the first couple of
megabytes for execution, the rest contains the dump. However
the size of the bitmap used by the bootmem allocator was calculated
for the whole amount of memory of the machine.
For very large machines this can lead to the situation that the kdump
kernel will not come up because not enough memory is available.
So fix this and calculate the size of the bitmap only for the piece
of memory that the kdump kernel actually uses.
Call reserve_oldmem() before setup_memory_end() so that the memory_chunk
array already has been updated with respect to oldmem chunks.
Afterwards setup_memory_end() will ignore those chunks.

This adds the API for userspace to instantiate an XICS device in a VM
and connect VCPUs to it. The API consists of a new device type for
the KVM_CREATE_DEVICE ioctl, a new capability KVM_CAP_IRQ_XICS, which
functions similarly to KVM_CAP_IRQ_MPIC, and the KVM_IRQ_LINE ioctl,
which is used to assert and deassert interrupt inputs of the XICS.
The XICS device has one attribute group, KVM_DEV_XICS_GRP_SOURCES.
Each attribute within this group corresponds to the state of one
interrupt source. The attribute number is the same as the interrupt
source number.
This does not support irq routing or irqfd yet.
