While there normally is no reason to have a pull request for asm-generic
but have all changes get merged through whichever tree needs them, I do
have a series for 3.19. There are two sets of patches that change
significant portions of asm/io.h, and this branch contains both in order
to resolve the conflicts:
- Will Deacon has done a set of patches to ensure that all architectures
define {read,write}{b,w,l,q}_relaxed() functions or get them by
including asm-generic/io.h. These functions are commonly used on ARM
specific drivers to avoid expensive L2 cache synchronization implied by
the normal {read,write}{b,w,l,q}, but we need to define them on all
architectures in order to share the drivers across architectures and
to enable CONFIG_COMPILE_TEST configurations for them
- Thierry Reding has done an unrelated set of patches that extends
the asm-generic/io.h file to the degree necessary to make it useful
on ARM64 and potentially other architectures.

This reverts commit 85c8555ff0 ("KVM: check for !is_zero_pfn() in
kvm_is_mmio_pfn()") and renames the function to kvm_is_reserved_pfn.
The problem being addressed by the patch above was that some ARM code
based the memory mapping attributes of a pfn on the return value of
kvm_is_mmio_pfn(), whose name indeed suggests that such pfns should
be mapped as device memory.
However, kvm_is_mmio_pfn() doesn't do quite what it says on the tin,
and the existing non-ARM users were already using it in a way which
suggests that its name should probably have been 'kvm_is_reserved_pfn'
from the beginning, e.g., whether or not to call get_page/put_page on
it etc. This means that returning false for the zero page is a mistake
and the patch above should be reverted.

xlate_dev_mem_ptr() is used to convert a physical address to an uncached
kernel virtual address mapping, so make it use phys_addr_t as type for
the physical address and return void * for the kernel virtual address.
xlate_dev_kmem_ptr() converts a cached kernel virtual address mapping to
an uncached kernel virtual address mapping, so make it use void * for
both the input parameter and return value.

write{b,w,l,q}_relaxed are implemented by some architectures in order to
permit memory-mapped I/O accesses with weaker barrier semantics than the
non-relaxed variants.
This patch adds dummy macros for the write accessors to ia64, which may
be able to be optimised in a similar manner to the relaxed read
accessors at a later date.

Pull audit updates from Eric Paris:
"So this change across a whole bunch of arches really solves one basic
problem. We want to audit when seccomp is killing a process. seccomp
hooks in before the audit syscall entry code. audit_syscall_entry
took as an argument the arch of the given syscall. Since the arch is
part of what makes a syscall number meaningful it's an important part
of the record, but it isn't available when seccomp shoots the
syscall...
For most arch's we have a better way to get the arch (syscall_get_arch)
So the solution was two fold: Implement syscall_get_arch() everywhere
there is audit which didn't have it. Use syscall_get_arch() in the
seccomp audit code. Having syscall_get_arch() everywhere meant it was
a useless flag on the stack and we could get rid of it for the typical
syscall entry.
The other changes inside the audit system aren't grand, fixed some
records that had invalid spaces. Better locking around the task comm
field. Removing some dead functions and structs. Make some things
static. Really minor stuff"

Pull percpu consistent-ops changes from Tejun Heo:
"Way back, before the current percpu allocator was implemented, static
and dynamic percpu memory areas were allocated and handled separately
and had their own accessors. The distinction has been gone for many
years now; however, the now duplicate two sets of accessors remained
with the pointer based ones - this_cpu_*() - evolving various other
operations over time. During the process, we also accumulated other
inconsistent operations.
This pull request contains Christoph's patches to clean up the
duplicate accessor situation. __get_cpu_var() uses are replaced with
with this_cpu_ptr() and __this_cpu_ptr() with raw_cpu_ptr().
Unfortunately, the former sometimes is tricky thanks to C being a bit
messy with the distinction between lvalues and pointers, which led to
a rather ugly solution for cpumask_var_t involving the introduction of
this_cpu_cpumask_var_ptr().
This converts most of the uses but not all. Christoph will follow up
with the remaining conversions in this merge window and hopefully
remove the obsolete accessors"

Both callers of get_cached_msi_msg() start with a struct irq_data pointer,
look up the corresponding IRQ number, and pass it to get_cached_msi_msg(),
which then uses irq_get_irq_data() to look up the struct irq_data again to
call __get_cached_msi_msg().
Since we already have the struct irq_data, call __get_cached_msi_msg()
directly and skip the lookup work done by get_cached_msi_msg().

Commit 20cde69402 ("x86, ia64: Move EFI_FB vga_default_device()
initialization to pci_vga_fixup()") moved boot video device detection from
efifb to x86 and ia64 pci/fixup.c.
For dual-GPU Apple computers above change represents a regression as code
in efifb did forcefully override vga_default_device while the merge did not
(vgaarb happens prior to PCI fixup).
To improve on initial device selection by vgaarb (it cannot know if PCI
device not behind bridges see/decode legacy VGA I/O or not), move the
screen_info based check from pci_video_fixup() to vgaarb's init function and
use it to refine/override decision taken while adding the individual PCI
VGA devices. This way PCI fixup has no reason to adjust vga_default_device
anymore but can depend on its value for flagging shadowed VBIOS.
This has the nice benefit of removing duplicated code but does introduce a
#if defined() block in vgaarb. Not all architectures have screen_info and
would cause compile to fail without it.

The nohz full code needs irq work to trigger its own interrupt so that
the subsystem can work even when the tick is stopped.
Lets introduce arch_irq_work_has_interrupt() that archs can override to
tell about their support for this ability.

New system call depends on crypto. As it did not have a separate config
option, CONFIG_KEXEC was modified to select CRYPTO and CRYPTO_SHA256.
But now previous patch introduced a new config option for new syscall.
So CONFIG_KEXEC does not require crypto. Remove that dependency.

Opaque KVM structs are useful for prototypes in asm/kvm_host.h, to avoid

__get_cpu_var() is used for multiple purposes in the kernel source. One of
them is address calculation via the form &__get_cpu_var(x). This calculates
the address for the instance of the percpu variable of the current processor
based on an offset.
Other use cases are for storing and retrieving data from the current
processors percpu area. __get_cpu_var() can be used as an lvalue when
writing data or on the right side of an assignment.
__get_cpu_var() is defined as :
#define __get_cpu_var(var) (*this_cpu_ptr(&(var)))
__get_cpu_var() always only does an address determination. However, store
and retrieve operations could use a segment prefix (or global register on
other platforms) to avoid the address calculation.
this_cpu_write() and this_cpu_read() can directly take an offset into a
percpu area and use optimized assembly code to read and write per cpu
variables.
This patch converts __get_cpu_var into either an explicit address
calculation using this_cpu_ptr() or into a use of this_cpu operations that
use the offset. Thereby address calculations are avoided and less registers
are used when code is generated.
At the end of the patch set all uses of __get_cpu_var have been removed so
the macro is removed too.
The patch set includes passes over all arches as well. Once these operations
are used throughout then specialized macros can be defined in non -x86
arches as well in order to optimize per cpu access by f.e. using a global
register that may be set to the per cpu base.
Transformations done to __get_cpu_var()
1. Determine the address of the percpu instance of the current processor.
DEFINE_PER_CPU(int, y);
int *x = &__get_cpu_var(y);
Converts to
int *x = this_cpu_ptr(&y);
2. Same as #1 but this time an array structure is involved.
DEFINE_PER_CPU(int, y[20]);
int *x = __get_cpu_var(y);
Converts to
int *x = this_cpu_ptr(y);
3. Retrieve the content of the current processors instance of a per cpu
variable.
DEFINE_PER_CPU(int, y);
int x = __get_cpu_var(y)
Converts to
int x = __this_cpu_read(y);
4. Retrieve the content of a percpu struct
DEFINE_PER_CPU(struct mystruct, y);
struct mystruct x = __get_cpu_var(y);
Converts to
memcpy(&x, this_cpu_ptr(&y), sizeof(x));
5. Assignment to a per cpu variable
DEFINE_PER_CPU(int, y)
__get_cpu_var(y) = x;
Converts to
__this_cpu_write(y, x);
6. Increment/Decrement etc of a per cpu variable
DEFINE_PER_CPU(int, y);
__get_cpu_var(y)++
Converts to
__this_cpu_inc(y)

Arch independent code provides this functionality so that arch dependent
bootloaders can make use of it.
Helper functions are provided to get/set symbol values in purgatory which
are used by bootloaders later to set things like stack and entry point of
second kernel etc.

The core mm code will provide a default gate area based on
FIXADDR_USER_START and FIXADDR_USER_END if
!defined(__HAVE_ARCH_GATE_AREA) && defined(AT_SYSINFO_EHDR).
This default is only useful for ia64. arm64, ppc, s390, sh, tile, 64-bit
UML, and x86_32 have their own code just to disable it. arm, 32-bit UML,
and x86_64 have gate areas, but they have their own implementations.
This gets rid of the default and moves the code into ia64.
This should save some code on architectures without a gate area: it's now
possible to inline the gate_area functions in the default case.

Pull ACPI and power management updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"Again, ACPICA leads the pack (47 commits), followed by cpufreq (18
commits) and system suspend/hibernation (9 commits).
From the new code perspective, the ACPICA update brings ACPI 5.1 to
the table, including a new device configuration object called _DSD
(Device Specific Data) that will hopefully help us to operate device
properties like Device Trees do (at least to some extent) and changes
related to supporting ACPI on ARM.
Apart from that we have hibernation changes making it use radix trees
to store memory bitmaps which should speed up some operations carried
out by it quite significantly. We also have some power management
changes related to suspend-to-idle (the "freeze" sleep state) support
and more preliminary changes needed to support ACPI on ARM (outside of
ACPICA).
The rest is fixes and cleanups pretty much everywhere.
