This is the bulk of pin control changes for the v4.16 kernel cycle:
Core changes: - After lengthy discussions and partly due to my ignorance, we have merged a patch making pinctrl_force_default() and pinctrl_force_sleep() reprogram the states into the hardware of any hogged pins, even if they are already in the desired state. This only apply to hogged pins since groups of pins owned by drivers need to be managed by each driver, lest they could not do things like runtime PM and put pins to sleeping state even if the system as a whole is not in sleep. New drivers: - New driver for the Microsemi Ocelot SoC. This is used in ethernet switches. - The X-Powers AXP209 GPIO driver was extended to also deal with pin control and moved over from the GPIO subsystem. This circuit is a mixed-mode integrated circuit which is part of AllWinner designs. - New subdriver for the Qualcomm MSM8998 SoC, core of a high end mobile devices (phones) chipset. - New subdriver for the ST Microelectronics STM32MP157 MPU and STM32F769 MCU from the STM32 family. - New subdriver for the MediaTek MT7622 SoC. This is used for routers, repeater, gateways and such network infrastructure. - New subdriver for the NXP (former Freescale) i.MX 6ULL. This SoC has multimedia features and target "smart devices", I guess in-car entertainment, in-flight entertainment, industrial control panels etc. General improvements: - Incremental improvements on the SH-PFC subdrivers for things like the CAN bus. - Enable the glitch filter on Baytrail GPIOs used for interrupts. - Proper handling of pins to GPIO ranges on the Semtec SX150X - An IRQ setup ordering fix on MCP23S08. - A good set of janitorial coding style fixes. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIcBAABAgAGBQJadGEKAAoJEEEQszewGV1zA4QQALs8edxhv4qV5vm50mTdrO3n QtRhJNb53j6MIKtjFnazMvh6MXRIP+08SyX9sDLi5AxINIVuyQh3mrcB6Zc9zN58 +6jFFOIbfm5E8by4n3wnKm3F/WAbNBZph9eT2Rn3cDv9o9hQbyNJ50sQkQMCjd9X WGR353c3OL4zb3vU8t72G/RPYUY1w1SkG9bGzRuSif8LawDcN6v6MMo2XhZA6RqM 3qYIG29vJ1n0weggUIBeSAJIzk4eMwcoWCbVWxhns5JGxw5VPES1zbSp1D+mbzRC 01i5Pt/gD+cWN/Kk/zKIMo1OqLAl+uLr6hzepj6W+5wu9CcQz/BgvRx7HUqnqgyh S8cN4AOgWmW+T75pHypd1WVic3q0RCXkFY8jjHpCATDY+Z+js0lZRs3y4DBiJ2ys DMVBeumDINKqaZ6aLH6lVkm+SxXOUy143arQQIzi0/F7fAp68i+9ofIO8B5smEmd 0S+3sT0sO5QXVgZJ0t0iGUUG5irXi8XtF5qvRmuFZUe0OLGgKX20oCdC0pH0WU4M OZO1Bvb8vmn1tddogO2WlHeg6amWdwxtDuBsLRO3YILLu3jwPjhNqNmErXzXEmWt TY9l2M1uQmoJibNpmTjOzSfj4OtUHMwkDrFRJHAcUPcKwdEy4MyzFL16ATnIwgY9 AmyMLNWJd8Wazgc6BK6w =gLY/ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'pinctrl-v4.16-1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/linusw/linux-pinctrl Pull pin control updates from Linus Walleij: "This is the bulk of pin control changes for the v4.16 kernel cycle. powerpc updates for 4.16
Highlights: - Enable support for memory protection keys aka "pkeys" on Power7/8/9 when using the hash table MMU. - Extend our interrupt soft masking to support masking PMU interrupts as well as "normal" interrupts, and then use that to implement local_t for a ~4x speedup vs the current atomics-based implementation. - A new driver "ocxl" for "Open Coherent Accelerator Processor Interface (OpenCAPI)" devices. - Support for new device tree properties on PowerVM to describe hotpluggable memory and devices. - Add support for CLOCK_{REALTIME/MONOTONIC}_COARSE to the 64-bit VDSO. - Freescale updates from Scott: "Contains fixes for CPM GPIO and an FSL PCI erratum workaround, plus a minor cleanup patch." As well as quite a lot of other changes all over the place, and small fixes and cleanups as always. This feature will allow consumers to lock in a certain rate on the output of a clk so that things like audio playback don't hear pops when the clk frequency changes due to shared parent clks changing rates. Currently the clk API doesn't guarantee the rate of a clk stays at the rate you request after clk_set_rate() is called, so this new API will allow drivers to express that requirement. Beyond this, the core got some debugfs pretty printing patches and a couple minor non-critical fixes. Looking outside of the core framework diff we have some new driver additions and the removal of a legacy TI clk driver. Both of these hit high in the dirstat. Also, the removal of the asm-generic/clkdev.h file causes small one-liners in all the architecture Kbuild files. Overall, the driver diff seems to be the normal stuff that comes all the time to fix little problems here and there and to support new hardware. Merge branch 'for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/pmladek/printk
Pull printk updates from Petr Mladek: - Add a console_msg_format command line option: The value "default" keeps the old "[time stamp] text\n" format. The value "syslog" allows to see the syslog-like "<log level>[timestamp] text" format. This feature was requested by people doing regression tests, for example, 0day robot. They want to have both filtered and full logs at hands. - Reduce the risk of softlockup: Pass the console owner in a busy loop. This is a new approach to the old problem. It was first proposed by Steven Rostedt on Kernel Summit 2017. It marks a context in which the console_lock owner calls console drivers and could not sleep. On the other side, printk() callers could detect this state and use a busy wait instead of a simple console_trylock(). Finally, the console_lock owner checks if there is a busy waiter at the end of the special context and eventually passes the console_lock to the waiter. The hand-off works surprisingly well and helps in many situations. Well, there is still a possibility of the softlockup, for example, when the flood of messages stops and the last owner still has too much to flush. There is increasing number of people having problems with printk-related softlockups. We might eventually need to get better solution. Anyway, this looks like a good start and promising direction. - Do not allow to schedule in console_unlock() called from printk(): This reverts an older controversial commit. The reschedule helped to avoid softlockups. But it also slowed down the console output. This patch is obsoleted by the new console waiter logic described above. In fact, the reschedule made the hand-off less effective. - Deprecate "%pf" and "%pF" format specifier: It was needed on ia64, ppc64 and parisc64 to dereference function descriptors and show the real function address. It is done transparently by "%ps" and "pS" format specifier now. Sergey Senozhatsky found that all the function descriptors were in a special elf section and could be easily detected. - Remove printk_symbol() API: It has been obsoleted by "%pS" format specifier, and this change helped to remove few continuous lines and a less intuitive old API. - Remove redundant memsets: Sergey removed unnecessary memset when processing printk.devkmsg command line option. * 'for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/pmladek/printk: (27 commits) printk: drop redundant devkmsg_log_str memsets printk: Never set console_may_schedule in console_trylock() printk: Hide console waiter logic into helpers printk: Add console owner and waiter logic to load balance console writes kallsyms: remove print_symbol() function checkpatch: add pF/pf deprecation warning symbol lookup: introduce dereference_symbol_descriptor() parisc64: Add .opd based function descriptor dereference powerpc64: Add .opd based function descriptor dereference ia64: Add .opd based function descriptor dereference sections: split dereference_function_descriptor() openrisc: Fix conflicting types for _exext and _stext lib: do not use print_symbol() irq debug: do not use print_symbol() sysfs: do not use print_symbol() drivers: do not use print_symbol() x86: do not use print_symbol() unicore32: do not use print_symbol() sh: do not use print_symbol() mn10300: do not use print_symbol() ... |

Kconfig updates for v4.16
A pretty big batch of Kconfig updates. I have to mention the lexer and parser of Kconfig are now built from real .l and .y sources. So, flex and bison are the requirement for building the kernel. Both of them (unlike gperf) have been stable for a long time. This change has been tested several weeks in linux-next, and I did not receive any problem report about this. Summary: - Add checks for mistakes, like the choice default is not in choice, help is doubled - Document data structure and complex code - Fix various memory leaks - Change Makefile to build lexer and parser instead of using pre-generated C files - Drop 'boolean' keyword, which is equivalent to 'bool' - Use default 'yy' prefix and remove unneeded Make variables - Fix gettext() check for xconfig - Announce that oldnoconfig will be finally removed - Make 'Selected by:' and 'Implied by' readable in help and search result - Hide silentoldconfig from 'make help' to stop confusing people - Fix misc things and cleanups -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1 iQIcBAABAgAGBQJac0O7AAoJED2LAQed4NsGxRQQAKiDkBmJUKzJykEr3BhEsCW1 1cKwsaCFSKQJZde+Edn14gqBQY3qvQVaWfnQpoBC69IOlMlVQyKqqdtjIUxmGTem +age94JvgPT3oj7ELigUsL5bFL8CEZYpjwAVkO+Zd+7jPxlM4glNl9F3coTp9ZAl kaFxnch8qPT3fb6xYSwTpkk28RFNfT8ixwImj0CH6wlwxI635o9wpqAmHCMD5Yid wBlEB0I0aw9xVx/D2FAh1ZJ+fyOtPLotRTtUQ1kdlDyk98V6EJRfyh1XWF0xE/gH WR7MAuBNXC6Uu1KqXLTJRWWE4NjBmW8e7OLTaoFQFXdnz/Rgd6gbPXuiiyKR6PUc mA3h6F8uPDpoRpqOrn6pdu269n1ObuZuC1XZ3MVSXtW3OzLbUk/2GpHPVX8mrep5 SBGsfq4JYtQkgz9/wBrWpdAjl2QbtPJbM/izCbEWk7pod18dVnyHpo3i3YjsaSQf piDK5JGKsHEisAzp6Onhc9EPeBLAjG236+LvBruaqjJNySXyT0S2kOwV0AMOD1yC ave8ZQA0QxP7sV/s5DXGkFx5Nt/1LE8JWvcRN0+juavnkUklWfFfnk7epAnFfRPi HCGfeQSzIQxQ+JV7/vlJ95FWvLZz+KzQ49X5aoYCVcEiFf2MV7RkDHSp5mPE4DnO 5JeHnTBpuvw4mnrZ6UNj =rsi/ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'kconfig-v4.16' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/masahiroy/linux-kbuild Pull Kconfig updates from Masahiro Yamada: "A pretty big batch of Kconfig updates. Char/Misc driver patches for 4.16-rc1
Here is the big pull request for char/misc drivers for 4.16-rc1. There's a lot of stuff in here. Three new driver subsystems were added for various types of hardware busses: - siox - slimbus - soundwire as well as a new vboxguest subsystem for the VirtualBox hypervisor drivers. There's also big updates from the FPGA subsystem, lots of Android binder fixes, the usual handful of hyper-v updates, and lots of other smaller driver updates. All of these have been in linux-next for a long time, with no reported issues. Driver Core updates for 4.16-rc1
Here is the set of "big" driver core patches for 4.16-rc1. The majority of the work here is in the firmware subsystem, with reworks to try to attempt to make the code easier to handle in the long run, but no functional change. There's also some tree-wide sysfs attribute fixups with lots of acks from the various subsystem maintainers, as well as a handful of other normal fixes and changes. Documentation/process: kernel maintainer PGP guide
This guide is an adapted version of the more general "Protecting Code Integrity" guide written and maintained by The Linux Foundation IT for use with open-source projects. It provides the oft-lacking guidance on the following topics: - how to properly protect one's PGP keys to minimize the risks of them being stolen and used maliciously to impersonate a kernel developer - how to configure Git to properly use GnuPG - when and how to use PGP with Git - how to verify fellow Linux Kernel developer identities I believe this document should live with the rest of the documentation describing proper processes one should follow when participating in kernel development. Placing it in a wiki on some place like kernel.org would be insufficient for a number of reasons -- primarily, because only a relatively small subset of maintainers have accounts on kernel.org, but also because even those who do rarely remember that such wiki exists. Keeping it with the rest of in-kernel docs should hopefully give it more visibility, but also help keep it up-to-date as tools and processes evolve. Staging/IIO patches for 4.16-rc1
Here is the big Staging and IIO driver patches for 4.16-rc1. There is the normal amount of new IIO drivers added, like all releases. The networking IPX and the ncpfs filesystem are moved into the staging tree, as they are on their way out of the kernel due to lack of use anymore. The visorbus subsystem finall has started moving out of the staging tree to the "real" part of the kernel, and the most and fsl-mc codebases are almost ready to move out, that will probably happen for 4.17-rc1 if all goes well. Other than that, there is a bunch of license header cleanups in the tree, along with the normal amount of coding style churn that we all know and love for this codebase. I also got frustrated at the Meltdown/Spectre mess and took it out on the dgnc tty driver, deleting huge chunks of it that were never even being used. Full details of everything is in the shortlog. All of these patches have been in linux-next for a while with no reported issues. Documentation updates for 4.16. New stuff includes refcount_t

mm: show total hugetlb memory consumption in /proc/meminfo
Currently we display some hugepage statistics (total, free, etc) in /proc/meminfo, but only for default hugepage size (e.g. 2Mb). If hugepages of different sizes are used (like 2Mb and 1Gb on x86-64), /proc/meminfo output can be confusing, as non-default sized hugepages are not reflected at all, and there are no signs that they are existing and consuming system memory. To solve this problem, let's display the total amount of memory, consumed by hugetlb pages of all sized (both free and used). Let's call it "Hugetlb", and display size in kB to match generic /proc/meminfo style. For example, (1024 2Mb pages and 2 1Gb pages are pre-allocated): $ cat /proc/meminfo MemTotal: 8168984 kB MemFree: 3789276 kB <...> CmaFree: 0 kB HugePages_Total: 1024 HugePages_Free: 1024 HugePages_Rsvd: 0 HugePages_Surp: 0 Hugepagesize: 2048 kB Hugetlb: 4194304 kB DirectMap4k: 32632 kB DirectMap2M: 4161536 kB DirectMap1G: 6291456 kB Also, this patch updates corresponding docs to reflect Hugetlb entry meaning and difference between Hugetlb and HugePages_Total * Hugepagesize. Merge branch 'next-integrity' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/jmorris/linux-security
Pull integrity updates from James Morris: "This contains a mixture of bug fixes, code cleanup, and new functionality. Of note is the integrity cache locking fix, file change detection, and support for a new EVM portable and immutable signature type. The re-introduction of the integrity cache lock (iint) fixes the problem of attempting to take the i_rwsem shared a second time, when it was previously taken exclusively. Defining atomic flags resolves the original iint/i_rwsem circular locking - accessing the file data vs. modifying the file metadata. Although it fixes the O_DIRECT problem as well, a subsequent patch is needed to remove the explicit O_DIRECT prevention. For performance reasons, detecting when a file has changed and needs to be re-measured, re-appraised, and/or re-audited, was limited to after the last writer has closed, and only if the file data has changed. Detecting file change is based on i_version. For filesystems that do not support i_version, remote filesystems, or userspace filesystems, the file was measured, appraised and/or audited once and never re-evaluated. Now local filesystems, which do not support i_version or are not mounted with the i_version option, assume the file has changed and are required to re-evaluate the file. This change does not address detecting file change on remote or userspace filesystems. Unlike file data signatures, which can be included and distributed in software packages (eg. rpm, deb), the existing EVM signature, which protects the file metadata, could not be included in software packages, as it includes file system specific information (eg. i_ino, possibly the UUID). This pull request defines a new EVM portable and immutable file metadata signature format, which can be included in software packages" * 'next-integrity' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/jmorris/linux-security: ima/policy: fix parsing of fsuuid ima: Use i_version only when filesystem supports it integrity: remove unneeded initializations in integrity_iint_cache entries ima: log message to module appraisal error ima: pass filename to ima_rdwr_violation_check() ima: Fix line continuation format ima: support new "hash" and "dont_hash" policy actions ima: re-introduce own integrity cache lock EVM: Add support for portable signature format EVM: Allow userland to permit modification of EVM-protected metadata ima: relax requiring a file signature for new files with zero length |

The is the bulk of GPIO changes for the v4.16 kernel cycle.
Core changes: - Disallow open drain and open source flags to be set simultaneously. This doesn't make electrical sense, and would the hardware actually respond to this setting, the result would be short circuit. - ACPI GPIO has a new core infrastructure for handling quirks. The quirks are there to deal with broken ACPI tables centrally instead of pushing the work to individual drivers. In the world of BIOS writers, the ACPI tables are perfect. Until they find a mistake in it. When such a mistake is found, we can patch it with a quirk. It should never happen, the problem is that it happens. So we accomodate for it. - Several documentation updates. - Revert the patch setting up initial direction state from reading the device. This was causing bad things for drivers that can't read status on all its pins. It is only affecting debugfs information quality. - Label descriptors with the device name if no explicit label is passed in. - Pave the ground for transitioning SPI and regulators to use GPIO descriptors by implementing some quirks in the device tree GPIO parsing code. New drivers: - New driver for the Access PCIe IDIO 24 family. Other: - Major refactorings and improvements to the GPIO mockup driver used for test and verification. - Moved the AXP209 driver over to pin control since it gained a pin control back-end. These patches will appear (with the same hashes) in the pin control pull request as well. - Convert the onewire GPIO driver w1-gpio to use descriptors. This is merged here since the W1 maintainers send very few pull requests and he ACKed it. - Start to clean up driver headers using <linux/gpio.h> to just use <linux/gpio/driver.h> as appropriate. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIcBAABAgAGBQJacIW6AAoJEEEQszewGV1z9b0P/jxWKaCAGFTTu/HZQ79RBAFq w33nIazzoh+88sN7A9xKexpr4ibOxiCvOwkTtrUBNaxGGy5fslj4+OY5BzunEfBK 1vYxyEqtenvvZK03pOd6CSfHKV+vD5ngnVHGdtGzRvtmDDiSgtzqyEyUhQcXM+l7 PrEh6qrd4TBZezlVR8kn5eqcmclkCBVSQCuLSq+ThMmCKRZuOdf1Im3D6eBzh1/N P81HdcglqbSsfUl1RcFiHs9Z+KcZOq83CNl2Ej1LePK2JBZbmkx9dR+WSJmV1u4P 6wvzFcQDhfGEiiteg2BS5c+o6aAyShpuRNut+2MLre8icmdfpqUEqFotHbfQjW5y sqaejGsJ5aHcRBq7UUM+F9s1R0iN3tlafi3L0WEhl0Tn5huRQq3Uqcw6e5l+XrWd 0h+b5PbKJZO/iqzRhSl+rhc0V2CFDJOCwvY+JX6356fvrcF0T6LhvKfDYtKU3Iyb HB0RG1OcYe228f96azvafCkFyBIYX9mqHBvOXpQQgrZQYXfN1rupLvpOhxC+Wbvn nsGE2bdD6HA1bytTbkxbL+QWP7faHf5YVcZpaN7UWbO3sOzL46fj8eHwHUim95Tr pR5kDZRhZd8+9SCNZ/ttpaEbis9MOqS/3Mlxrj4GXtfFFmR53hjFy2bG/Z7R2RB0 MlSEJRc8iDIs+1j3D2RR =k5nL -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'gpio-v4.16-1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/linusw/linux-gpio Pull GPIO updates from Linus Walleij: "The is the bulk of GPIO changes for the v4.16 kernel cycle. SCSI misc on 20180131
This is mostly updates of the usual driver suspects: arcmsr, scsi_debug, mpt3sas, lpfc, cxlflash, qla2xxx, aacraid, megaraid_sas, hisi_sas. We also have a rework of the libsas hotplug handling to make it more robust, a slew of 32 bit time conversions and fixes, and a host of the usual minor updates and style changes. The biggest potential for regressions is the libsas hotplug changes, but so far they seem stable under testing. Signed-off-by: James E.J. - DM core fixes to ensure that bio submission follows a depth-first tree
walk; this is critical to allow forward progress without the need to use the bioset's BIOSET_NEED_RESCUER. - Remove DM core's BIOSET_NEED_RESCUER based dm_offload infrastructure. - DM core cleanups and improvements to make bio-based DM more efficient (e.g. reduced memory footprint as well leveraging per-bio-data more). - Introduce new bio-based mode (DM_TYPE_NVME_BIO_BASED) that leverages the more direct IO submission path in the block layer; this mode is used by DM multipath and also optimizes targets like DM thin-pool that stack directly on NVMe data device. - DM multipath improvements to factor out legacy SCSI-only (e.g. scsi_dh) code paths to allow for more optimized support for NVMe multipath. - A fix for DM multipath path selectors (service-time and queue-length) to select paths in a more balanced way; largely academic but doesn't hurt. - Numerous DM raid target fixes and improvements. - Add a new DM "unstriped" target that enables Intel to workaround firmware limitations in some NVMe drives that are striped internally (this target also works when stacked above the DM "striped" target). - Various Documentation fixes and improvements. - Misc. cleanups and fixes across various DM infrastructure and targets (e.g. bufio, flakey, log-writes, snapshot). -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1 iQEcBAABAgAGBQJacgwPAAoJEMUj8QotnQNaEw0H/0XRTcg8/lRuGl46kdeI3PgR ZxUy4XgUrCLiACWO5yCU/nKipB32+3xTlTDTBcjmaBfX8HolH147Pasb1KdHqLVC dOWLMpjlFztb5fnuOMitJA05qQAbgRlZ52QdVk/FDo9yWicgWjQZduh8aYX53pHw 6XOYWzSFAXQcaduPdz6TLiPw479xBwIpXxQbrO09f4qt3Ub4bqknEhzFXc+6M7zl ejmW/bG2Qg6WmsfAuaAhFTV0LpTPSEzvaq9TfR7yqFU3DvDIAi7Yh8eQinIUDo4u txpOGoESRAMPAMKH0/UJdr/u7jTsfgJox4QEavWfnViPvkouah5KdjVOL1veZ5U= =R3dN -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'for-4.16/dm-changes' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/device-mapper/linux-dm Pull device mapper updates from Mike Snitzer: - DM core fixes to ensure that bio submission follows a depth-first tree walk; this is critical to allow forward progress without the need to use the bioset's BIOSET_NEED_RESCUER. - Misc cleanups and fixes across various DM infrastructure and targets (e.g. bufio, flakey, log-writes, snapshot). * tag 'for-4.16/dm-changes' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/device-mapper/linux-dm: (69 commits) dm cache: Documentation: update default migration_throttling value dm mpath selector: more evenly distribute ties dm unstripe: fix target length versus number of stripes size check dm thin: fix trailing semicolon in __remap_and_issue_shared_cell dm table: fix NVMe bio-based dm_table_determine_type() validation dm: various cleanups to md->queue initialization code dm mpath: delay the retry of a request if the target responded as busy dm mpath: return DM_MAPIO_DELAY_REQUEUE if QUEUE_IO or PG_INIT_REQUIRED dm mpath: return DM_MAPIO_REQUEUE on blk-mq rq allocation failure dm log writes: fix max length used for kstrndup dm: backfill missing calls to mutex_destroy() dm snapshot: use mutex instead of rw_semaphore dm flakey: check for null arg_name in parse_features() dm thin: extend thinpool status format string with omitted fields dm thin: fixes in thin-provisioning.txt dm thin: document representation of <highest mapped sector> when there is none dm thin: fix documentation relative to low water mark threshold dm cache: be consistent in specifying sectors and SI units in cache.txt dm cache: delete obsoleted paragraph in cache.txt dm cache: fix grammar in cache-policies.txt ... |

x86/paravirt: Remove 'noreplace-paravirt' cmdline option
The 'noreplace-paravirt' option disables paravirt patching, leaving the original pv indirect calls in place. That's highly incompatible with retpolines, unless we want to uglify paravirt even further and convert the paravirt calls to retpolines. As far as I can tell, the option doesn't seem to be useful for much other than introducing surprising corner cases and making the kernel vulnerable to Spectre v2. It was probably a debug option from the early paravirt days. So just remove it. There are two major achievements for MMC in this release, which deserves to be
specially highlighted. First, we have converted the MMC block device from using the legacy blk interface into using the modern blkmq interface. Not only do we get all the nice effects from using blkmq, but it also means that new fresh nice code replaces old rusty code. Great news to everybody that cares about MMC/SD! It should also be noted that converting to blkmq has not been trivial, mostly because of that we have been carrying too much of MMC specific optimizations for the I/O request path, rather than striving to move these to the generic blk layer. Hopefully we won't be doing that mistake, ever again. Special thanks to Adrian Hunter (Intel) and to Linus Walleij (Linaro), who both have been working on this for quite some time! Second, on top of the blkmq deployment, we have enabled full support the eMMC command queuing feature, introduced in the eMMC v.5.1 spec. This also includes an implementation of a host driver library, supporting the corresponding CQHCI HW. Ideally, those controllers that supports CQHCI should only need some minor adaptations to make this play. So far the sdhci-pci driver for the Intel GLKs and the sdhci-of-arasan driver used on Rockchip RK3399, have enabled support for eMMC command queueing. Worth to highlight is also that, implementing the eMMC command queuing support has been a collaborative effort, as several people from Codeaurora, Rockchip, Intel and Linaro have been involved. However, the work has been driven by Adrian Hunter (Intel). In some shadow of the above, here are the rest of the highlights: MMC core: - Don't remove non-removable cards during system suspend - Add a slot-gpio helper to check capability of GPIO WP detection MMC host: - sdhci: Cleanups and improvements of some wakeup related code - sdhci-pci-arasan: New variant to support Arasan PCI HW with integrated phy - sdhci-acpi: Avoid broken UHS transfer modes on Intel CHT - sdhci-acpi: Add support for ACPI HID of AMD Controller with HS400 - sdhci_f_sdh30: Add ACPI support - sdhci-esdhc-imx: Enable/disable clock at runtime suspend/resume - sdhci-of-esdhc: A few minor fixes - mmci: Add support for new STM32 variant - renesas_sdhi: enable R-Car D3 (r8a77995) support - tmio/renesas_sdhi: Re-structuring, cleanups and modernizations -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1 iQIcBAABAgAGBQJabvFuAAoJEP4mhCVzWIwp7qIQAMFyLGkmJya9woUDgPlKJZMD pasQtW5/60ASEid4hiZsGQgDrvmq+8jba+3O6QhL/maTX69nhtQXTGvbyHlIYjIG J8z1oaflYz3tQ2w5I+85mkDciQEECH7rIiXMwZn1WUKByptnSJaqA95b2eiB5b+/ zoCx9ZWCKeWBxuXsBf8E/Cyt7H6VndDVtIYzcmNYb8x0SdKGj8cjQ8YvtP+fIse1 5bSWzfSO33T+gHW0mxX1C9bBjSVTLB2yYyiTCdd8grUIimexatgcpj4VA1zWPNcA EJYeXwUCULNMDobLVEd0XuScIX92ZWiKd2ITtuwh1OaLltGjubt6K6UCa3ecZfIv RbzCTB+YpkyNGYnf+aQlbLF5OO9IWVcfMP8hTtHdcm7YbKnI2u6IFhDR4mHtFWpx e3HZFZoIVwtBRxUwM8e2rNs0YfA96fn7+5YWqJ77pSa8rxGmIXE3Znf911MRHxej faDoYYAFSxBlvHujQ4a/yxHRldaFGkelNCjvjnIC0+1O++im9oi3c8Agg8SYSR9H dKckEBEXTVPz6PzXgmy5+fgNZ1UK1LLkAdVrdMBcoIY+BUi9xUBlu6Wng3Qr86Ht YD/WO/2dLewPAx9qVnBO6L001IbS//dr+qPFjaQdkXP6F1KAKQRmrs2QngKPks2x PQB46gFuxdLj6Ykg12wK =kUV+ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'mmc-v4.16' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ulfh/mmc Pull MMC updates from Ulf Hansson: "There are two major achievements for MMC in this release, which deserves to be specially highlighted. Power management updates for v4.16-rc1
- Define a PM driver flag allowing drivers to request that their devices be left in suspend after system-wide transitions to the working state if possible and add support for it to the PCI bus type and the ACPI PM domain (Rafael Wysocki). - Make the PM core carry out optimizations for devices with driver PM flags set in some cases and make a few drivers set those flags (Rafael Wysocki). - Fix and clean up wrapper routines allowing runtime PM device callbacks to be re-used for system-wide PM, change the generic power domains (genpd) framework to stop using those routines incorrectly and fix up a driver depending on that behavior of genpd (Rafael Wysocki, Ulf Hansson, Geert Uytterhoeven). - Fix and clean up the PM core's device wakeup framework and re-factor system-wide PM core code related to device wakeup (Rafael Wysocki, Ulf Hansson, Brian Norris). - Make more x86-based systems use the Low Power Sleep S0 _DSM interface by default (to fix power button wakeup from suspend-to-idle on Surface Pro3) and add a kernel command line switch to tell it to ignore the system sleep blacklist in the ACPI core (Rafael Wysocki). - Fix a race condition related to cpufreq governor module removal and clean up the governor management code in the cpufreq core (Rafael Wysocki). - Drop the unused generic code related to the handling of the static power energy usage model in the CPU cooling thermal driver along with the corresponding documentation (Viresh Kumar). - Add mt2712 support to the Mediatek cpufreq driver (Andrew-sh Cheng). - Add a new operating point to the imx6ul and imx6q cpufreq drivers and switch the latter to using clk_bulk_get() (Anson Huang, Dong Aisheng). - Add support for multiple regulators to the TI cpufreq driver along with a new DT binding related to that and clean up that driver somewhat (Dave Gerlach). - Fix a powernv cpufreq driver regression leading to incorrect CPU frequency reporting, fix that driver to deal with non-continguous P-states correctly and clean it up (Gautham Shenoy, Shilpasri Bhat). - Add support for frequency scaling on Armada 37xx SoCs through the generic DT cpufreq driver (Gregory CLEMENT). - Fix error code paths in the mvebu cpufreq driver (Gregory CLEMENT). - Fix a transition delay setting regression in the longhaul cpufreq driver (Viresh Kumar). - Add Skylake X (server) support to the intel_pstate cpufreq driver and clean up that driver somewhat (Srinivas Pandruvada). - Clean up the cpufreq statistics collection code (Viresh Kumar). - Drop cluster terminology and dependency on physical_package_id from the PSCI driver and drop dependency on arm_big_little from the SCPI cpufreq driver (Sudeep Holla). - Add support for system-wide suspend and resume to the RAPL power capping driver and drop a redundant semicolon from it (Zhen Han, Luis de Bethencourt). - Make SPI domain validation (in the SCSI SPI transport driver) and system-wide suspend mutually exclusive as they rely on the same underlying mechanism and cannot be carried out at the same time (Bart Van Assche). - Fix the computation of the amount of memory to preallocate in the hibernation core and clean up one function in there (Rainer Fiebig, Kyungsik Lee). - Prepare the Operating Performance Points (OPP) framework for being used with power domains and clean up one function in it (Viresh Kumar, Wei Yongjun). - Clean up the generic sysfs interface for device PM (Andy Shevchenko). - Fix several minor issues in power management frameworks and clean them up a bit (Arvind Yadav, Bjorn Andersson, Geert Uytterhoeven, Gustavo Silva, Julia Lawall, Luis de Bethencourt, Paul Gortmaker, Sergey Senozhatsky, gaurav jindal). - Make it easier to disable PM via Kconfig (Mark Brown). - Clean up the cpupower and intel_pstate_tracer utilities (Doug Smythies, Laura Abbott). -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2 iQIcBAABCAAGBQJaYw2iAAoJEILEb/54YlRxLHwP/iabmAcbXBeg30/wSCKcWB6f Ar785YbkFedNP7b2dypR7bcKIkaV55EExNHHoVuvC6gKrW+zx3F39v9QzK3HBKfw DgLWMjxR5Xdm9o8o2chsBEMl0itSRB9s864s+AAAElP+qjyT6kmbFyRFgVYLiNH0 v9jNhPF9EmirViwES/syELa/P1AJDMxCb/SbRY+Xp1sPhGKlx2J/2eQsVDs7G+wL 2BJeyBqwL9D78U/eY2bvpCoZLpmZmklx1eY5iK3Mzo6LZKYMaSypgkGuRfh//K+a 8vFLwOBsOlpZ8lsPBRatV5+SMu8qMQMTnstui1m3/9bOPFfjymat6u0lLw4BV2hv zrNfqWOiwTAt/fczR1/naYuuSeRCLABvYDKjs/9iYdrCZYJ+n+ZzU/wi5geswDtD cQKDMOdOBrnfkN0Vqpw6ZBqun0RDldNT/+6oy93tHWBlF0CA4mMq5jr8q3iH35CW 8TA1GCkurHZXTyYdYXR5SUHxPbOgZC87GAb7RlFEJJnvvkmy3jmBng675Hl5XAn7 D8eJp3d4h5n121pkMLGcBc7K036T2uFsjrHWx+QsjKFUBWUBnuRfInRrLA5WnGo2 U+KIEUPepdnbFFvYNv+kTgz2uE6FOqycEmnUKUKWUZYPN0GDAOw/V3813uxVRYtq 27omIOL7PJp1wWjQnfXK =dnb7 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'pm-4.16-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rafael/linux-pm Pull power management updates from Rafael Wysocki: "This includes some infrastructure changes in the PM core, mostly related to integration between runtime PM and system-wide suspend and hibernation, plus some driver changes depending on them and fixes for issues in that area which have become quite apparent recently. Merge git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/bpf/bpf-next
Alexei Starovoitov says: ==================== pull-request: bpf-next 2018-01-26 The following pull-request contains BPF updates for your *net-next* tree. The main changes are: 1) A number of extensions to tcp-bpf, from Lawrence. - direct R or R/W access to many tcp_sock fields via bpf_sock_ops - passing up to 3 arguments to bpf_sock_ops functions - tcp_sock field bpf_sock_ops_cb_flags for controlling callbacks - optionally calling bpf_sock_ops program when RTO fires - optionally calling bpf_sock_ops program when packet is retransmitted - optionally calling bpf_sock_ops program when TCP state changes - access to tclass and sk_txhash - new selftest 2) div/mod exception handling, from Daniel. One of the ugly leftovers from the early eBPF days is that div/mod operations based on registers have a hard-coded src_reg == 0 test in the interpreter as well as in JIT code generators that would return from the BPF program with exit code 0. This was basically adopted from cBPF interpreter for historical reasons. There are multiple reasons why this is very suboptimal and prone to bugs. To name one: the return code mapping for such abnormal program exit of 0 does not always match with a suitable program type's exit code mapping. For example, '0' in tc means action 'ok' where the packet gets passed further up the stack, which is just undesirable for such cases (e.g. when implementing policy) and also does not match with other program types. After considering _four_ different ways to address the problem, we adapt the same behavior as on some major archs like ARMv8: X div 0 results in 0, and X mod 0 results in X. aarch64 and aarch32 ISA do not generate any traps or otherwise aborts of program execution for unsigned divides. Given the options, it seems the most suitable from all of them, also since major archs have similar schemes in place. Given this is all in the realm of undefined behavior, we still have the option to adapt if deemed necessary. 3) sockmap sample refactoring, from John. 4) lpm map get_next_key fixes, from Yonghong. 5) test cleanups, from Alexei and Prashant. ==================== Signed-off-by: David S. powerpc/cell: Remove axonram driver
The QS21/22 IBM Cell blades had a southbridge chip called Axon. This
could have DDR DIMMs attached to it, though they were not directly
usable as RAM, instead they could be used as some sort of buffer, if
applications were written specifically to use the block device
provided by the driver.
Although the driver supposedly had direct access support, it was
apparently never tested (see commit

kconfig: Remove silentoldconfig from help and docs; fix kconfig/conf's help
As explained by Michal Marek at https://lkml.org/lkml/2011/8/31/189 silentoldconfig has become a misnomer. It has become an internal interface so remove it from "make help" and Documentation/ to stop confusing people using it as seen for instance at https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/835632 Don't remove it from kconfig/Makefile yet not to break any (other) tool using it. On the other hand, correct and expand its description in the help of the (internal) scripts/kconfig/conf.c Signed-off-by: Marc Herbert <marc.herbert@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Masahiro Yamada <yamada.masahiro@socionext.com> |
