There is no reason (knwon to me) why any of the existing users of
acpi_os_unmap_iomem() would need to wait for the unused memory
mappings left by it to actually go away, so use the deferred
unmapping of ACPI memory introduced previously in that function.
While at it, fold __acpi_os_unmap_iomem() back into
acpi_os_unmap_iomem(), which has become a simple wrapper around it,
and make acpi_os_unmap_memory() call the latter.

The ACPICA's strategy with respect to the handling of memory mappings
associated with memory operation regions is to avoid mapping the
entire region at once which may be problematic at least in principle
(for example, it may lead to conflicts with overlapping mappings
having different attributes created by drivers). It may also be
wasteful, because memory opregions on some systems take up vast
chunks of address space while the fields in those regions actually
accessed by AML are sparsely distributed.
For this reason, a one-page "window" is mapped for a given opregion
on the first memory access through it and if that "window" does not
cover an address range accessed through that opregion subsequently,
it is unmapped and a new "window" is mapped to replace it. Next,
if the new "window" is not sufficient to acess memory through the
opregion in question in the future, it will be replaced with yet
another "window" and so on. That may lead to a suboptimal sequence
of memory mapping and unmapping operations, for example if two fields
in one opregion separated from each other by a sufficiently wide
chunk of unused address space are accessed in an alternating pattern.
The situation may still be suboptimal if the deferred unmapping
introduced previously is supported by the OS layer. For instance,
the alternating memory access pattern mentioned above may produce
a relatively long list of mappings to release with substantial
duplication among the entries in it, which could be avoided if
acpi_ex_system_memory_space_handler() did not release the mapping
used by it previously as soon as the current access was not covered
by it.
In order to improve that, modify acpi_ex_system_memory_space_handler()
to preserve all of the memory mappings created by it until the memory
regions associated with them go away.
Accordingly, update acpi_ev_system_memory_region_setup() to unmap all
memory associated with memory opregions that go away.

The ACPI OS layer in Linux uses RCU to protect the walkers of the
list of ACPI memory mappings from seeing an inconsistent state
while it is being updated. Among other situations, that list can
be walked in (NMI and non-NMI) interrupt context, so using a
sleeping lock to protect it is not an option.
However, performance issues related to the RCU usage in there
appear, as described by Dan Williams:
"Recently a performance problem was reported for a process invoking
a non-trival ASL program. The method call in this case ends up
repetitively triggering a call path like:
acpi_ex_store
acpi_ex_store_object_to_node
acpi_ex_write_data_to_field
acpi_ex_insert_into_field
acpi_ex_write_with_update_rule
acpi_ex_field_datum_io
acpi_ex_access_region
acpi_ev_address_space_dispatch
acpi_ex_system_memory_space_handler
acpi_os_map_cleanup.part.14
_synchronize_rcu_expedited.constprop.89
schedule
The end result of frequent synchronize_rcu_expedited() invocation is
tiny sub-millisecond spurts of execution where the scheduler freely
migrates this apparently sleepy task. The overhead of frequent
scheduler invocation multiplies the execution time by a factor
of 2-3X."
The source of this is that acpi_ex_system_memory_space_handler()
unmaps the memory mapping currently cached by it at the access time
if that mapping doesn't cover the memory area being accessed.
Consequently, if there is a memory opregion with two fields
separated from each other by an unused chunk of address space that
is large enough for not being covered by a single mapping, and they
happen to be used in an alternating pattern, the unmapping will
occur on every acpi_ex_system_memory_space_handler() invocation for
that memory opregion and that will lead to significant overhead.
Moreover, acpi_ex_system_memory_space_handler() carries out the
memory unmapping with the namespace and interpreter mutexes held
which may lead to additional latency, because all of the tasks
wanting to acquire on of these mutexes need to wait for the
memory unmapping operation to complete.
To address that, rework acpi_os_unmap_memory() so that it does not
release the memory mapping covering the given address range right
away and instead make it queue up the mapping at hand for removal
via queue_rcu_work().

Platform reboots are expensive. Towards reducing downtime to apply
firmware updates the Intel NVDIMM command definition is growing support
for applying live firmware updates that only require temporarily
suspending memory traffic instead of a full reboot.
Follow-on commits add support for triggering firmware activation, this
patch only defines the commands, adds probe support, and validates that
they are blocked via the ioctl path. The ioctl-path block ensures that
the OS is in charge since these commands have side effects only the OS
can handle. Specifically firmware activation may cause the memory
controller to be quiesced on the order of 100s of milliseconds. In that
case Linux ensure the activation only takes place while the OS is in a
suspend state.

Use thermal_zone_device_{en|dis}able() and thermal_zone_device_is_enabled().
Consequently, all set_mode() implementations in drivers:
- can stop modifying tzd's "mode" member,
- shall stop taking tzd's lock, as it is taken in the helpers
- shall stop calling thermal_zone_device_update() as it is called in the
helpers
- can assume they are called when the mode truly changes, so checks to
verify that can be dropped
Not providing set_mode() by a driver no longer prevents the core from
being able to set tzd's mode, so the relevant check in mode_store() is
removed.
Other comments:
- acpi/thermal.c: tz->thermal_zone->mode will be updated only after we
return from set_mode(), so use function parameter in thermal_set_mode()
instead, no need to call acpi_thermal_check() in set_mode()
- thermal/imx_thermal.c: regmap writes and mode assignment are done in
thermal_zone_device_{en|dis}able() and set_mode() callback
- thermal/intel/intel_quark_dts_thermal.c: soc_dts_{en|dis}able() are a
part of set_mode() callback, so they don't need to modify tzd->mode, and
don't need to fall back to the opposite mode if unsuccessful, as the return
value will be propagated to thermal_zone_device_{en|dis}able() and
ultimately tzd's member will not be changed in thermal_zone_device_set_mode().
- thermal/of-thermal.c: no need to set zone->mode to DISABLED in
of_parse_thermal_zones() as a tzd is kzalloc'ed so mode is DISABLED anyway

On architectures that implement KASLR using the ELF native RELA relocation
format (such as arm64), every absolute reference in the code incurs an
overhead of 24 bytes in the .rela section. So storing a 41 element array
of 4 character signature strings using an array of pointer-to-char incurs
an 8x overhead (32 bytes per entry => ~1500 bytes), and given the fixed
length of the entries, and the fact that the array is only used locally,
it is much better to use an array of arrays here, which gets rid of the
overhead entirely.

This is an effort to eliminate the uninitialized_var() macro[1].
The use of this macro is the wrong solution because it forces off ANY
analysis by the compiler for a given variable. It even masks "unused
variable" warnings.
Quoted from Linus[2]:
"It's a horrible thing to use, in that it adds extra cruft to the
source code, and then shuts up a compiler warning (even the _reliable_
warnings from gcc)."
The gcc option "-Wmaybe-uninitialized" has been disabled and this change
will not produce any warnnings even with "make W=1".

As recently reported, some platforms provide a list of power
resources for device power state D3hot, through the _PR3 object,
but they do not provide a list of power resources for device power
state D0.
Among other things, this causes acpi_device_get_power() to return
D3hot as the current state of the device in question if all of the
D3hot power resources are "on", because it sees the power_resources
flag set and calls acpi_power_get_inferred_state() which finds that
D3hot is the shallowest power state with all of the associated power
resources turned "on", so that's what it returns. Moreover, that
value takes precedence over the acpi_dev_pm_explicit_get() return
value, because it means a deeper power state. The device may very
well be in D0 physically at that point, however.
Moreover, the presence of _PR3 without _PR0 for a given device
means that only one D3-level power state can be supported by it.
Namely, because there are no power resources to turn "off" when
transitioning the device from D0 into D3cold (which should be
supported since _PR3 is present), the evaluation of _PS3 should
be sufficient to put it straight into D3cold, but this means that
the effect of turning "on" the _PR3 power resources is unclear,
so it is better to avoid doing that altogether. Consequently,
there is no practical way do distinguish D3cold from D3hot for
the device in question and the power states of it can be labeled
so that D3hot is the deepest supported one (and Linux assumes
that putting a device into D3hot via ACPI may cause power to be
removed from it anyway, for legacy reasons).
To work around the problem described above modify the ACPI
enumeration of devices so that power resources are only used
for device power management if the list of D0 power resources
is not empty and make it mart D3cold as supported only if that
is the case and the D3hot list of power resources is not empty
too.

Merge tag 'pm-5.8-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rafael/linux-pm
Pull power management updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"These rework the system-wide PM driver flags, make runtime switching
of cpuidle governors easier, improve the user space hibernation
interface code, add intel-speed-select interface documentation, add
more debug messages to the ACPI code handling suspend to idle, update
the cpufreq core and drivers, fix a minor issue in the cpuidle core
and update two cpuidle drivers, improve the PM-runtime framework,
update the Intel RAPL power capping driver, update devfreq core and

messages to help diagnose issues with it (Rafael Wysocki).
- Fix a helper routine in the cpufreq core and correct a typo in the
struct cpufreq_driver kerneldoc comment (Rafael Wysocki, Wang
Wenhu).
- Update cpufreq drivers:
- Make the intel_pstate driver start in the passive mode by
default on systems without HWP (Rafael Wysocki).
- Add i.MX7ULP support to the imx-cpufreq-dt driver and add
i.MX7ULP to the cpufreq-dt-platdev blacklist (Peng Fan).
- Convert the qoriq cpufreq driver to a platform one, make the
platform code create a suitable device object for it and add
platform dependencies to it (Mian Yousaf Kaukab, Geert
Uytterhoeven).
- Fix wrong compatible binding in the qcom driver (Ansuel Smith).
- Build the omap driver by default for ARCH_OMAP2PLUS (Anders
Roxell).
- Add r8a7742 SoC support to the dt cpufreq driver (Lad
Prabhakar).

- Fix three reference count leaks in error code paths in the
cpuidle core (Qiushi Wu).
- Convert Qualcomm SPM to a generic cpuidle driver (Stephan
Gerhold).
- Fix up the execution order when entering a domain idle state in
the PSCI driver (Ulf Hansson).
- Fix a reference counting issue related to clock management and
clean up two oddities in the PM-runtime framework (Rafael Wysocki,
Andy Shevchenko).
- Add ElkhartLake support to the Intel RAPL power capping driver and
remove an unused local MSR definition from it (Jacob Pan, Sumeet
Pawnikar).
- Update devfreq core and drivers:
- Replace strncpy() with strscpy() in the devfreq core and use
lockdep asserts instead of manual checks for a locked mutex in
it (Dmitry Osipenko, Krzysztof Kozlowski).
- Add a generic imx bus scaling driver and make it register an
interconnect device (Leonard Crestez, Gustavo A. R. Silva).
- Make the cpufreq notifier in the tegra30 driver take boosting
into account and delete an unuseful error message from that
driver (Dmitry Osipenko, Markus Elfring).
- Remove unneeded semicolon from the cpupower code (Zou Wei)"

If this function returns an error, kobject_put() must be called to
properly clean up the memory associated with the object. Previous

Commit ea6f3af4c5 ("ACPI: GED: add support for _Exx / _Lxx handler
methods") added a reference to the 'triggering' field of either the
normal or the extended ACPI IRQ resource struct, but inadvertently used
the wrong pointer in the latter case. Note that both pointers refer to the
same union, and the 'triggering' field appears at the same offset in both
struct types, so it currently happens to work by accident. But let's fix
it nonetheless

This driver adds support for Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework
battery participant device support.
These attributes are presented via sysfs interface under the platform
device for the battery participant:
$ls /sys/bus/platform/devices/INT3532:00/dptf_battery
current_discharge_capbility_ma
max_platform_power_mw
no_load_voltage_mv
high_freq_impedance_mohm
max_steady_state_power_mw
Refer to the documentation at
Documentation/ABI/testing/sysfs-platform-dptf
for details.
Here the implementation reuses existing dptf-power.c as the motivation and
processing is same. It also shares one ACPI method. Here this change is
using participant type, "PTYP" method to identify and do different
processing. By using participant type, create/delete either "dptf_power"
or "dptf_battery" attribute group and send notifications.
The particpant type for for the battery participant is 0x0C.
ACPI methods description:
PMAX (Intel(R) Dynamic Tuning Platform Max Power Supplied by Battery):
This object evaluates to the maximum platform power that can be supported
by the battery in milli watts.
PBSS (Intel(R) Dynamic Tuning Power Battery Steady State):
This object returns the max sustained power for battery in milli watts.
RBHF (Intel(R) Dynamic Tuning High Frequency Impedance):
This object returns high frequency impedance value that can be obtained
from battery fuel gauge.
VBNL (Intel(R) Dynamic Tuning No-Load Voltage)
This object returns battery instantaneous no-load voltage that can be
obtained from battery fuel gauge in milli volts
CMPP (Intel(R) Dynamic Tuning Current Discharge Capability)
This object returns battery discharge current capability obtained from
battery fuel gauge milli amps.

Add two additional attributes to the existing power participant driver:
rest_of_platform_power_mw: (RO) Shows the rest of worst case platform
power in mW outside of S0C. This will help in power distribution to SoC
and rest of the system. For example on a test system, this value is 2.5W
with a 15W TDP SoC. Based on the adapter rating (adapter_rating_mw), user
space software can decide on proper power allocation to SoC to improve
short term performance via powercap/RAPL interface.
prochot_confirm: (WO) Confirm EC about a prochot notification.
Also userspace is notified via sysfs_notify(), whenever power source or
rest of the platform power is changed. So user space can use poll()
system call on those attributes.
The ACPI methods used in this patch are as follows:
PROP
This object evaluates to the rest of worst case platform power in mW.
Bits:
23:0 Worst case rest of platform power in mW.
PBOK
PBOK is a method designed to provide a mechanism for OSPM to change power
setting before EC can de-assert a PROCHOT from a device. The EC may
receive several PROCHOTs, so it has a sequence number attached to PSRC
(read via existing attribute "platform_power_source"). Once OSPM takes
action for a PSRC change notification, it can call PBOK method to confirm
with the sequence number.
Bits:
3:0 Power Delivery State Change Sequence number
30 Reserved
31 0 – Not OK to de-assert PROCHOT
1 – OK to de-assert PROCHOT
PSRC (Platform Power Source): Not new in this patch but for
documentation for new bits
This object evaluates to an integer that represents the system power
source as well as the power delivery state change sequence number.
Bits:
3:0 The current power source as an integer for AC, DC, USB, Wireless.
0 = DC, 1 = AC, 2 = USB, 3 = Wireless Charging
7:4 Power Delivery State Change Sequence Number. Default value is 0
Notifications:
0x81: (Power State Change) Used to notify when the power source has
changed.
0x84: (PROP change) Used to notify when the platform rest of power has
changed.

Currently, changing the brightness of the internal display of the Acer
TravelMate 5735Z does not work. Pressing the function keys or changing the
slider, GNOME Shell 3.36.2 displays the OSD (five steps), but the
brightness does not change.
The Acer TravelMate 5735Z shipped with Windows 7 and as such does not
trigger our "win8 ready" heuristic for preferring the native backlight
interface.
Still ACPI backlight control doesn't work on this model, where as the
native (intel_video) backlight interface does work by adding
`acpi_backlight=native` or `acpi_backlight=none` to Linux’ command line.
So, add a quirk to force using native backlight control on this model.

memory_failure() offlines or repairs pages of memory that have been
discovered to be corrupt. These may be detected by an external
component, (e.g. the memory controller), and notified via an IRQ.
In this case the work is queued as not all of memory_failure()s work
can happen in IRQ context.
If the error was detected as a result of user-space accessing a
corrupt memory location the CPU may take an abort instead. On arm64
this is a 'synchronous external abort', and on a firmware first
system it is replayed using NOTIFY_SEA.
This notification has NMI like properties, (it can interrupt
IRQ-masked code), so the memory_failure() work is queued. If we
return to user-space before the queued memory_failure() work is
processed, we will take the fault again. This loop may cause platform

Flushing the EC work while suspended to idle when the EC GPE status
is not set causes some EC wakeup events (notably power button and
lid ones) to be missed after a series of spurious wakeups on the Dell
XPS13 9360 in my office.
If that happens, the machine cannot be woken up from suspend-to-idle
by the power button or lid status change and it needs to be woken up
in some other way (eg. by a key press).
Flushing the EC work only after successful dispatching the EC GPE,
which means that its status has been set, avoids the issue, so change
the code in question accordingly.

If the EC GPE status is not set after checking all of the other GPEs,
acpi_s2idle_wake() returns 'false', to indicate that the SCI event
that has just triggered is not a system wakeup one, but it does that
without canceling the pending wakeup and re-arming the SCI for system
wakeup which is a mistake, because it may cause s2idle_loop() to busy
spin until the next valid wakeup event. [If that happens, the first
spurious wakeup is still pending after acpi_s2idle_wake() has
returned, so s2idle_enter() does nothing, acpi_s2idle_wake()
is called again and it sees that the SCI has triggered, but no GPEs
are active, so 'false' is returned again, and so on.]
Fix that by moving all of the GPE checking logic from
acpi_s2idle_wake() to acpi_ec_dispatch_gpe() and making the
latter return 'true' only if a non-EC GPE has triggered and
'false' otherwise, which will cause acpi_s2idle_wake() to
cancel the pending SCI wakeup and re-arm the SCI for system
wakeup regardless of the EC GPE status.
This also addresses a lockup observed on an Elitegroup EF20EA laptop
after attempting to wake it up from suspend-to-idle by a key press.

The ID mapping table structure of the IORT table describes the size of
a range using a num_ids field carrying the number of IDs in the region
minus one. This has been misinterpreted in the past in the parsing code,
and firmware is known to have shipped where this results in an ambiguity,
where regions that should be adjacent have an overlap of one value.
So let's work around this by detecting this case specifically: when
resolving an ID translation, allow one that matches right at the end of
a multi-ID region to be superseded by a subsequent one.
To prevent potential regressions on broken firmware that happened to
work before, only take the subsequent match into account if it occurs
at the start of a mapping region.

Per the PCI Firmware spec, r3.2, sec 4.5.1, the OS can request control of
AER via bit 3 of the _OSC Control Field. In the returned value of the
Control Field:
The firmware sets [bit 3] to 1 to grant control over PCI Express Advanced
Error Reporting. ... after control is transferred to the operating
system, firmware must not modify the Advanced Error Reporting Capability.
If control of this feature was requested and denied or was not requested,
firmware returns this bit set to 0.
Previously the pci_root driver looked at the HEST FIRMWARE_FIRST bit to
determine whether to request ownership of the AER Capability. This was
based on ACPI spec v6.3, sec 18.3.2.4, and similar sections, which say
things like:
Bit [0] - FIRMWARE_FIRST: If set, indicates that system firmware will
handle errors from this source first.
Bit [1] - GLOBAL: If set, indicates that the settings contained in this
structure apply globally to all PCI Express Devices.
These ACPI references don't say anything about ownership of the AER
Capability.
Remove use of the FIRMWARE_FIRST bit and rely only on the _OSC bit to
determine whether we have control of the AER Capability.

Where IORT nodes for named components can describe simple DMA limits
expressed as the number of address bits a device can drive, _DMA methods
in AML can express more complex topologies, involving DMA translation in
particular.
Currently, we only take this _DMA method into account if it appears on a
ACPI device node describing a PCIe root complex, but it is perfectly
acceptable to use them for named components as well, so let's ensure
we take them into account in those cases too.
Note that such named components are expected to reside under a
pseudo-bus node such as the ACPI0004 container device, which should be
providing the _DMA method as well as a _CRS (as mandated by the ACPI
spec). This is not enforced by the code however.

Because the power.may_skip_resume device status bit is taken
into account in combination with the DPM_FLAG_LEAVE_SUSPENDED
driver flag, it can be set to 'true' for all devices in the
"suspend" phase of a suspend-resume cycle, so do that.
Then, neither the PM core nor the middle-layer (sybsystem) code
handling it needs to set it to 'true' any more and it just has
to be cleared if there is a reason to avoid skipping the "noirq"
and "early" resume callbacks provided by the driver, so update
the code in question accordingly.

The current code in device_resume_noirq() causes the entire early
resume and resume phases of device suspend to be skipped for
devices for which the noirq resume phase have been skipped (due
to the LEAVE_SUSPENDED flag being set) on the premise that those
devices should stay in runtime-suspend after system-wide resume.
However, that may not be correct in two situations. First, the
middle layer (subsystem) noirq resume callback may be missing for
a given device, but its early resume callback may be present and it
may need to do something even if it decides to skip the driver
callback. Second, if the device's wakeup settings were adjusted
in the suspend phase without resuming the device (that was in
runtime suspend at that time), they most likely need to be
adjusted again in the resume phase and so the driver callback
in that phase needs to be run.
For the above reason, modify the core to allow the middle layer
->resume_late callback to run even if its ->resume_noirq callback
is missing (and the core has skipped the driver-level callback
in that phase) and to allow all device callbacks to run in the
resume phase. Also make the core set the PM-runtime status of
devices with SMART_SUSPEND set whose resume callbacks are not
skipped to "active" in the "noirq" resume phase and update the
affected subsystems (PCI and ACPI) accordingly.
After this change, middle-layer (subsystem) callbacks will always
be invoked in all phases of system suspend and resume and driver
callbacks will always run in the prepare, suspend, resume, and
complete phases for all devices.
For devices with SMART_SUSPEND set, driver callbacks will be
skipped in the late and noirq phases of system suspend if those
devices remain in runtime suspend in __device_suspend_late().
Driver callbacks will also be skipped for them during the
noirq and early phases of the "thaw" transition related to
hibernation in that case.
Setting LEAVE_SUSPENDED means that the driver allows its callbacks
to be skipped in the noirq and early phases of system resume, but
some additional conditions need to be met for that to happen (among
other things, the power.may_skip_resume flag needs to be set for the
device during system suspend for the driver callbacks to be skipped
during the subsequent resume transition).
For all devices with SMART_SUSPEND set whose driver callbacks are
invoked during system resume, the PM-runtime status will be set to
"active" (by the core).

Since commit fdde0ff859 ("ACPI: PM: s2idle: Prevent spurious SCIs from
waking up the system") the SCI triggering without there being a wakeup
cause recognized by the ACPI sleep code will no longer wakeup the system.
This works as intended, but this is a problem for devices where the SCI
is shared with another device which is also a wakeup source.
In the past these, from the pov of the ACPI sleep code, spurious SCIs
would still cause a wakeup so the wakeup from the device sharing the
interrupt would actually wakeup the system. This now no longer works.
This is a problem on e.g. Bay Trail-T and Cherry Trail devices where
some peripherals (typically the XHCI controller) can signal a
Power Management Event (PME) to the Power Management Controller (PMC)
to wakeup the system, this uses the same interrupt as the SCI.
These wakeups are handled through a special INT0002 ACPI device which
checks for events in the GPE0a_STS for this and takes care of acking
the PME so that the shared interrupt stops triggering.
The change to the ACPI sleep code to ignore the spurious SCI, causes
the system to no longer wakeup on these PME events. To make things
worse this means that the INT0002 device driver interrupt handler will
no longer run, causing the PME to not get cleared and resulting in the
system hanging. Trying to wakeup the system after such a PME through e.g.
the power button no longer works.
Add an acpi_register_wakeup_handler() function which registers
a handler to be called from acpi_s2idle_wake() and when the handler
returns true, return true from acpi_s2idle_wake().
The INT0002 driver will use this mechanism to check the GPE0a_STS
register from acpi_s2idle_wake() and to tell the system to wakeup
if a PME is signaled in the register.

- Introduce 'zero_page_range' as a dax operation. This facilitates
filesystem-dax operation without a block-device.

the platform-memory subsystem before the platform will consider them
power-fail protected.

- Promote numa_map_to_online_node() to a cross-kernel generic facility.

ACPICA commit 422166b656565d180bb3aac712009bdce5e70cdd
NHLT (Non-HDAudio Link Table) provides configuration of audio
endpoints for Intel SST (Smart Sound Technology) DSP products.
Similarly to other ACPI tables, data provided by BIOS may not
describe it correctly, thus overriding is required.
ACPI override mechanism checks for unknown signature before
proceeding. Update known signatures array to support NHLT.

On 32-bit, the provided sprintf() is non-functional: with a size of
ACPI_UINT32_MAX, String + Size will wrap, meaning End < Start, and
acpi_ut_bound_string_output() will never output anything as a result.
The symptom we saw of this was acpixtract failing to output anything.

Error Disconnect Recover (EDR) is a feature that allows ACPI firmware to
notify OSPM that a device has been disconnected due to an error condition
(ACPI v6.3, sec 5.6.6). OSPM advertises its support for EDR on PCI devices
via _OSC (see [1], sec 4.5.1, table 4-4). The OSPM EDR notify handler
should invalidate software state associated with disconnected devices and
may attempt to recover them. OSPM communicates the status of recovery to
the firmware via _OST (sec 6.3.5.2).
For PCIe, firmware may use Downstream Port Containment (DPC) to support
EDR. Per [1], sec 4.5.1, table 4-6, even if firmware has retained control
of DPC, OSPM may read/write DPC control and status registers during the EDR
notification processing window, i.e., from the time it receives an EDR
notification until it clears the DPC Trigger Status.
Note that per [1], sec 4.5.1 and 4.5.2.4,
1. If the OS supports EDR, it should advertise that to firmware by

The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language
extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare
variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2],
introduced in C99:
struct foo {
int stuff;
struct boo array[];
};
By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning
in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which
will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being
inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on.
Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by
this change:
"Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator
may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of
zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1]
This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle.

The check for any active GPEs added by commit fdde0ff859 ("ACPI:
PM: s2idle: Prevent spurious SCIs from waking up the system") turns
out to be insufficiently precise to prevent some systems from
resuming prematurely due to a spurious EC wakeup, so refine it
by first checking if any GPEs other than the EC GPE are active
and skipping all of the SCIs coming from the EC that do not produce
any genuine wakeup events after processing.

The check carried out by acpi_any_gpe_status_set() is not precise enough
for the suspend-to-idle implementation in Linux and in some cases it is
necessary make it skip one GPE (specifically, the EC GPE) from the check
to prevent a race condition leading to a premature system resume from
occurring.
For this reason, redefine acpi_any_gpe_status_set() to take the number
of a GPE to skip as an argument.

Commit 3f8fd02b1b ("mm/vmalloc: Sync unmappings in
__purge_vmap_area_lazy()") introduced a call to vmalloc_sync_all() in
the vunmap() code-path. While this change was necessary to maintain
correctness on x86-32-pae kernels, it also adds additional cycles for
architectures that don't need it.
Specifically on x86-64 with CONFIG_VMAP_STACK=y some people reported
severe performance regressions in micro-benchmarks because it now also
calls the x86-64 implementation of vmalloc_sync_all() on vunmap(). But
the vmalloc_sync_all() implementation on x86-64 is only needed for newly
created mappings.
To avoid the unnecessary work on x86-64 and to gain the performance
back, split up vmalloc_sync_all() into two functions:
* vmalloc_sync_mappings(), and
* vmalloc_sync_unmappings()
Most call-sites to vmalloc_sync_all() only care about new mappings being
synchronized. The only exception is the new call-site added in the
above mentioned commit.
Shile Zhang directed us to a report of an 80% regression in reaim
throughput.

The NDD_ALIASING flag is used to indicate where pmem capacity might
alias with blk capacity and require labeling. It is also used to
indicate whether the DIMM supports labeling. Separate this latter
capability into its own flag so that the NDD_ALIASING flag is scoped to
true aliased configurations.
To my knowledge aliased configurations only exist in the ACPI spec,
there are no known platforms that ship this support in production.
This clarity allows namespace-capacity alignment constraints around
interleave-ways to be relaxed.

The reason for clearing boot_ec_is_ecdt in acpi_ec_add() (if a
PNP0C09 device object matching the ECDT boot EC had been found in
the namespace) was to cause acpi_ec_ecdt_start() to return early,
but since the latter does not look at boot_ec_is_ecdt any more,
acpi_ec_add() need not clear it.
Moreover, doing that may be confusing as it may cause "DSDT" to be
printed instead of "ECDT" in the EC initialization completion
message, so stop doing it.
While at it, split the EC initialization completion message into
two messages, one regarding the boot EC and another one printed
regardless of whether or not the EC at hand is the boot one.
Signed-off-by: Rafael J. Wysocki <rafael.j.wysocki@intel.com>
Notice that the return value of acpi_ec_init() is discarded anyway,
so it can be void and it doesn't need to check the return values of
acpi_bus_register_driver() and acpi_ec_ecdt_start() called by it.
Thus the latter can be void too and it really has nothing to do
if acpi_ec_add() has already found an EC matching the boot one in the
namespace. Also, acpi_ec_ecdt_get_handle() can be folded into it.
Modify the code accordingly and while at it create a propoer kerneldoc
comment to document acpi_ec_ecdt_start() and move the remark regarding
ASUS X550ZE along with the related bug URL from acpi_ec_init() into
that comment.

Commit 406857f773 ("ACPI: EC: add support for hardware-reduced
systems") made ec_install_handlers() return an error on failures
to configure a GPIO IRQ for the EC, but that is inconsistent with
the handling of the GPE event handler installation failures even
though it is exactly the same issue and the driver can respond to
it in the same way in both cases (the EC can be actively polled
for events through its registers if the event handler installation
fails).
Moreover, it requires acpi_ec_add() to take that special case into
account and disagrees with the ec_install_handlers() header comment.
For this reason, rework the event handler installation code in
ec_install_handlers() to explicitly take deferred probing (that
may be needed in the GPIO IRQ case) into account and to avoid
failing the EC initialization in any other case.
Among other things, reduce code duplication between
install_gpe_event_handler() and install_gpio_irq_event_handler() by
moving some code from there into ec_install_handlers() itself and
simplify the error code path in acpi_ec_add().
While at it, turn the ec_install_handlers() header comment into
a proper kerneldoc one and add some general control flow information
to it.

If the boot EC comes from the DSDT, its ACPI handle is equal to the
handle of a device object with the PNP0C09 device ID. If that
device object is passed to acpi_ec_add(), it is not necessary to
allocate a new EC structure for it and parse it, because that has
been done already, so change the function to use the fast path in
that case.
Signed-off-by: Rafael J. Wysocki <rafael.j.wysocki@intel.com>
First, notice that if the device ID in acpi_ec_add() is equal to
ACPI_ECDT_HID, boot_ec_is_ecdt must be set, because this means
that the device object passed to acpi_ec_add() comes from
acpi_ec_ecdt_start() which fails if boot_ec_is_ecdt is unset.
Accordingly, boot_ec_is_ecdt need not be set again in that case,
so drop that redundant update of it from the code.
Next, ec->handle must be a valid ACPI handle right before
returning 0 from acpi_ec_add(), because it either is the handle
of the device object passed to that function, or it is the boot EC
handle coming from acpi_ec_ecdt_start() which fails if it cannot
find a valid handle for the boot EC. Moreover, the object with
that handle is regarded as a valid representation of the EC in all
cases, so there is no reason to avoid the _DEP list update walk if
that handle is the boot EC handle. Accordingly, drop the dep_update
local variable from acpi_ec_add() and call acpi_walk_dep_device_list()
for ec->handle unconditionally before returning 0 from it.
Finally, the ec local variable in acpi_ec_add() need not be
initialized to NULL and the status local variable declaration
can be moved to the block in which it is used, so change the code
in accordance with these observations.

The 'func' variable can come from the user in the __nd_ioctl(). If it's
too high then the (1 << func) shift in acpi_nfit_clear_to_send() is
undefined. In acpi_nfit_ctl() we pass 'func' to test_bit(func, &dsm_mask)

If the status value returned by acpi_install_address_space_handler()
in ec_install_handlers() is AE_NOT_FOUND, it is treated in a special
way, apparently because it might mean a _REG method evaluation

_REG evaluation errors into account at all, so the AE_NOT_FOUND

After commit 406857f773 ("ACPI: EC: add support for hardware-reduced

and acpi_ec_setup() is redundant, because it is always 'false' when
the device argument passed to them in NULL and it is always 'true'
otherwise, so the device argument can be tested against NULL instead
of testing the handle_events one.
Accordingly, modify ec_install_handlers() and acpi_ec_setup() to take
two arguments and reduce the number of checks in the former.

It doesn't really make sense to pass ec->handle of the ECDT EC to
acpi_handle_info(), because it is set to ACPI_ROOT_OBJECT in
acpi_ec_ecdt_probe(), so rework acpi_ec_setup() to avoid using
acpi_handle_info() for printing messages.
First, notice that the "Used as first EC" message is not really
useful, because it is immediately followed by a more meaningful one
from either acpi_ec_ecdt_probe() or acpi_ec_dsdt_probe() (the latter
also includes the EC object path), so drop it altogether.
Second, use pr_info() for printing the EC configuration information.
While at it, make the code in question avoid printing invalid GPE or
IRQ numbers and make it print the GPE/IRQ information only when the
driver is ready to handle events.

online node to a given proximity domain. This is used to map devices in

property allows applications to be migrated "close" to a resource.
In preparation for providing a generic facility to optionally map an

state, it does not see the sleep_enabled bit. In otherwords, the sleep
button is not enabled on waking from an S4 state. This causes
subsequent invocation of sleep state to fail in the guest.
Fix this problem by enabling the sleep button in ACPI legacy wake.

Virtual machines often use an ACPI power button event to tell the
machine to shut down gracefully.
Provide an extremely lightweight "tiny power button" driver to handle
this event by signaling init directly, rather than running a separate
daemon (such as acpid or systemd-logind) that adds to startup time and
VM image complexity.
The kernel configuration defines the default signal to send init, and
userspace can change this signal via a module parameter.

If the platform triggers a spurious SCI even though the status bit
is not set for any GPE when the system is suspended to idle, it will
be treated as a genuine wakeup, so avoid that by checking if any GPEs

Introduce a new helper function, acpi_any_gpe_status_set(), for
checking the status bits of all enabled GPEs in one go.
It is needed to distinguish spurious SCIs from genuine ones when
deciding whether or not to wake up the system from suspend-to-idle.

It is theoretically possible for the ACPI EC GPE to be set after the
s2idle_ops->wake() called from s2idle_loop() has returned and before
the subsequent pm_wakeup_pending() check is carried out. If that
happens, the resulting wakeup event will cause the system to resume
even though it may be a spurious one.
To avoid that race, first make the ->wake() callback in struct
platform_s2idle_ops return a bool value indicating whether or not
to let the system resume and rearrange s2idle_loop() to use that
value instad of the direct pm_wakeup_pending() call if ->wake() is
present.
Next, rework acpi_s2idle_wake() to process EC events and check
pm_wakeup_pending() before re-arming the SCI for system wakeup
to prevent it from triggering prematurely and add comments to
that function to explain the rationale for the new code flow.

Commit 016b87ca5c ("ACPI: EC: Rework flushing of pending work")
introduced a subtle bug into the flushing of pending EC work while
suspended to idle, which may cause the EC driver to fail to
re-enable the EC GPE after handling a non-wakeup event (like a
battery status change event, for example).
The problem is that the work item flushed by flush_scheduled_work()
in __acpi_ec_flush_work() may disable the EC GPE and schedule another
work item expected to re-enable it, but that new work item is not
flushed, so __acpi_ec_flush_work() returns with the EC GPE disabled
and the CPU running it goes into an idle state subsequently. If all
of the other CPUs are in idle states at that point, the EC GPE won't
be re-enabled until at least one CPU is woken up by another interrupt
source, so system wakeup events that would normally come from the EC
then don't work.
This is reproducible on a Dell XPS13 9360 in my office which
sometimes stops reacting to power button and lid events (triggered
by the EC on that machine) after switching from AC power to battery
power or vice versa while suspended to idle (each of those switches
causes the EC GPE to trigger for several times in a row, but they
are not system wakeup events).
To avoid this problem, it is necessary to drain the workqueue
entirely in __acpi_ec_flush_work(), but that cannot be done with
respect to system_wq, because work items may be added to it from
other places while __acpi_ec_flush_work() is running. For this
reason, make the EC driver use a dedicated workqueue for EC events
processing (let that workqueue be ordered so that EC events are
processed sequentially) and use drain_workqueue() on it in
__acpi_ec_flush_work().
