This patch removes the error branch for (queue > ar->hw->queues).
It is no longer needed anymore as the "queue" value is validated by
cfg80211's parse_txq_params() before the driver code gets called.
Some background:
In the old days (linux 2.6 and early 3.x), the parse_txq_params()
function did not verify the "queue" value. That's why these drivers
had to do it.

This patch follows Alan Stern's recent patch:
"p54: Fix race between disconnect and firmware loading"
that overhauled carl9170 buggy firmware loading and driver
unbinding procedures.
Since the carl9170 code was adapted from p54 it uses the
same functions and is likely to have the same problem, but
it's just that the syzbot hasn't reproduce them (yet).
a summary from the changes (copied from the p54 patch):
* Call usb_driver_release_interface() rather than
device_release_driver().
* Lock udev (the interface's parent) before unbinding the
driver instead of locking udev->parent.
* During the firmware loading process, take a reference
to the USB interface instead of the USB device.
* Don't take an unnecessary reference to the device during
probe (and then don't drop it during disconnect).
and
* Make sure to prevent use-after-free bugs by explicitly
setting the driver context to NULL after signaling the
completion.

Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
- file had no licensing information it it.
- file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
- file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
lines of source
- File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 11139
and resulted in the first patch in this series.
If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH
Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930
and resulted in the second patch in this series.
- if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one
of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if
any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in
it (per prior point). Results summary:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270
GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17
LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15
GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14
((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5
LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4
LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1
and that resulted in the third patch in this series.
- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

carl9170_usb_stop() is used from several places to flush and cleanup any
pending work. The normal pattern is to send a request and wait for the
irq handler to call complete(). The completion is not reinitialized
during normal operation and as the old comment indicates it is important
to keep calls to wait_for_completion_timeout() and complete() balanced.
Calling complete_all() brings this equilibirum out of balance and needs
to be fixed by a reinit_completion(). But that opens a small race
window. It is possible that the sequence of complete_all(),
reinit_completion() is faster than the wait_for_completion_timeout() can
do its work. The wake up is not lost but the done counter test is after
reinit_completion() has been executed. The only reason we don't see
carl9170_exec_cmd() hang forever is we use the timeout version of
wait_for_copletion().
Let's fix this by reinitializing the completion (that is just setting
done counter to 0) just before we send out an request. Now,
carl9170_usb_stop() can be sure a complete() call is enough to make
progess since there is only one waiter at max. This is a common pattern
also seen in various drivers which use completion.

it. There's no really good reason to not declare the number of
bands in nl80211 though, so do that and remove the cfg80211 one.

Currently mac80211 does not inform the driver of the session
block ack timeout when starting a rx aggregation session.
Drivers that manage the reorder buffer need to know this
parameter.
Seeing that there are now too many arguments for the
drv_ampdu_action() function, wrap them inside a structure.

As we're running out of hardware capability flags pretty quickly,
convert them to use the regular test_bit() style unsigned long
bitmaps.
This introduces a number of helper functions/macros to set and to
test the bits, along with new debugfs code.
The occurrences of an explicit __clear_bit() are intentional, the
drivers were never supposed to change their supported bits on the
fly. We should investigate changing this to be a per-frame flag.

Return type of wait_for_completion_timeout is unsigned long not int.
An appropriately named unsigned long is added, and the assignments
as well as error checking fixed up.
API conformance testing for completions with coccinelle spatches are being
used to locate API usage inconsistencies:
./drivers/net/wireless/ath/carl9170/usb.c:675
int return assigned to unsigned long
Patch was compile tested with x86_64_defconfig + CONFIG_ATH_CARDS=m,

This support is essentially useless as typically networks are encrypted,
frames will be filtered by hardware, and rate scaling will be done with
the intended recipient in mind. For real monitoring of the network, the
monitor mode support should be used instead.
Removing it removes a lot of corner cases.

respectively which can be used to generate the two printf arguments

According to RCU_INIT_POINTER()'s block comment 3.a, it can be used if
"3. The referenced data structure has already been exposed to readers either
at compile time or via rcu_assign_pointer() -and-
a. You have not made -any- reader-visible changes to this structure since
then".
This case fulfills the conditions above because between the rcu_dereference()
call (cvif = rcu_dereference(ar->beacon_iter);) and the rcu_assign_pointer()
call there is no update of the "cvif" variable.
Therefore, this patch makes the replacement.
The following Coccinelle semantic patch was used:
@@
identifier v;
@@
v = rcu_dereference(...);
... when != rcu_dereference(...);
when != v = ...;
when != (<+...v...+>)++;
when != \(memcpy\|memset\)(...);
(
- rcu_assign_pointer
+ RCU_INIT_POINTER
(..., v);
|
if(...) {
... when != v = ...;
- rcu_assign_pointer
+ RCU_INIT_POINTER
(..., v);
... when any
}
)
Because there are cases where between a “rcu_dereference()” call and a
“rcu_assign_pointer()” call might be updates of the value that interests us,
the Coccinelle semantic patch ignores them and replaces with
"RCU_INIT_POINTER()" only when the update is not happening.

The carl9170_op_ampdu_action() function is used only by the mac80211
framework.
Since the mac80211 already takes care of checks and properly serializing
calls to the driver's function there is no need for the driver to do the same
thing.

The driver assumes that endpoint 4 is always an interrupt endpoint.
Unfortunately the type differs between high-speed and full-speed
configurations while in the former case it is indeed an interrupt
endpoint this is not true for the latter case - here it is a bulk
endpoint. When sending URBs with the wrong type the kernel will
generate a warning message including backtrace. In this specific
case there will be a huge amount of warnings which can bring the system
to freeze.
To fix this we are now sending URBs to endpoint 4 using the type
found in the endpoint descriptor.
A side note: The carl9170 firmware currently specifies endpoint 4 as
interrupt endpoint even in the full-speed configuration but this has
no relevance because before this firmware is loaded the endpoint type
is as described above and after the firmware is running the stick is not
reenumerated and so the old descriptor is used.
