The new default mode will print the metrics as a metric group. The
metrics from the same metric group must be adjacent to each other in the
metric list. But the metric_list_cmp() sorts metrics by the number of
events.
Add a new sort for the Default metricgroup, which sorts by
default_metricgroup_name and metric_name.
Add is_default in the struct metric_event to indicate that it's from
the Default metricgroup.
Store the displayed metricgroup name of the Default metricgroup into
the metric expr for output.

Request the topdown metric group of a level with the metrics in the
group 'TopdownL<level>' rather than through specific events. As more
topdown levels are supported this way, such as 6 on Intel Ice Lake,
default to just showing the level 1 metrics. This can be overridden
using '--td-level'. Rather than determine the maximum topdown level
from sysfs, use the metric group names. Remove some now unused topdown
code.

Rather than controlling the list output with passed flags, add
callbacks that are called when an event or metric are
encountered. State is passed to the callback so that command line
options can be respected, alternatively the callbacks can be changed.
Fix a few bugs:
- wordwrap to columns metric descriptions and expressions;
- remove unnecessary whitespace after PMU event names;
- the metric filter is a glob but matched using strstr which will
always fail, switch to using a proper globmatch,
- the detail flag gives details for extra kernel PMU events like
branch-instructions.
In metricgroup.c switch from struct mep being a rbtree of metricgroups
containing a list of metrics, to the tree directly containing all the
metrics. In general the alias for a name is passed to the print
routine rather than being contained in the name with OR.

Having metric parsing as part of argument processing causes issues as
flags like metric-no-group may be specified later. It also denies the
opportunity to optimize the events on SMT systems where fewer events
may be possible if we know the target is system-wide. Move metric
parsing to after command line option parsing. Because of how stat runs
this moves the parsing after record/report which fail to work with
metrics currently anyway.

While modifying the function's types, rename pmu_events_map__find to

Add a new option '--cputype' to 'perf list' to display core-only PMU
events or atom-only PMU events.
Each hybrid PMU event has been assigned with a PMU name, this patch
compares the PMU name before listing the result.
For example:
perf list --cputype atom
...
cache:
core_reject_l2q.any
[Counts the number of request that were not accepted into the L2Q because the L2Q is FULL. Unit: cpu_atom]
...
The "Unit: cpu_atom" is displayed in the brief description section
to indicate this is an atom event.

The metricgroup__copy_metric_events() is to handle metrics events when
expanding event for cgroups. As the metric events keep pointers to
evsel, it should be refreshed when events are cloned during the
operation.
The perf_stat__collect_metric_expr() is also called in case an event has
a metric directly.
During the copy, it references evsel by index as the evlist now has
cloned evsels for the given cgroup.

grouped. This can allow the event to get more time when multiplexed, but

Patch enhances current metric infrastructure to handle "?" in the metric
expression. The "?" can be use for parameters whose value not known
while creating metric events and which can be replace later at runtime
to the proper value. It also add flexibility to create multiple events
out of single metric event added in JSON file.
Patch adds function 'arch_get_runtimeparam' which is a arch specific
function, returns the count of metric events need to be created. By
default it return 1.
This infrastructure needed for hv_24x7 socket/chip level events.
"hv_24x7" chip level events needs specific chip-id to which the data is
requested. Function 'arch_get_runtimeparam' implemented in header.c
which extract number of sockets from sysfs file "sockets" under
"/sys/devices/hv_24x7/interface/".
With this patch basically we are trying to create as many metric events
as define by runtime_param.
For that one loop is added in function 'metricgroup__add_metric', which
create multiple events at run time depend on return value of
'arch_get_runtimeparam' and merge that event in 'group_list'.
To achieve that we are actually passing this parameter value as part of
`expr__find_other` function and changing "?" present in metric
expression with this value.
As in our JSON file, there gonna be single metric event, and out of
which we are creating multiple events.
To understand which data count belongs to which parameter value,
we also printing param value in generic_metric function.
For example,
command:# ./perf stat -M PowerBUS_Frequency -C 0 -I 1000
1.000101867 9,356,933 hv_24x7/pm_pb_cyc,chip=0/ # 2.3 GHz PowerBUS_Frequency_0
1.000101867 9,366,134 hv_24x7/pm_pb_cyc,chip=1/ # 2.3 GHz PowerBUS_Frequency_1
2.000314878 9,365,868 hv_24x7/pm_pb_cyc,chip=0/ # 2.3 GHz PowerBUS_Frequency_0
2.000314878 9,366,092 hv_24x7/pm_pb_cyc,chip=1/ # 2.3 GHz PowerBUS_Frequency_1
So, here _0 and _1 after PowerBUS_Frequency specify parameter value.

{

"EventCode": "0xE0",

"PerPkg": "1",
"ScaleUnit": "6000000000ns",
"UMask": "0x1",

},
For above example, the ratio should be,
ratio = (UNC_M_PMM_RPQ_OCCUPANCY.ALL / UNC_M_PMM_RPQ_INSERTS / UNC_M_CLOCKTICKS) * 6000000000
But in current code, the ratio is not scaled ( * 6000000000)
With this patch, the ratio is scaled and the unit (ns) is printed.
For example,
# 219.4 ns UNC_M_PMM_READ_LATENCY

The 'perf stat' command line flag -T to display transaction counters is
currently supported for x86 only.
Add support for s390. It is based on the metrics flag -M transaction
using the architecture dependent JSON files. This requires a metric
named "transaction" in the JSON files for the platform.
Introduce a new function metricgroup__has_metric() to check for the
existence of a metric_name transaction.
As suggested by Andi Kleen, this is the new approach to support
transactions counters. Other architectures will follow.
Output before:
[root@p23lp27 perf]# ./perf stat -T -- sleep 1

Add generic support for standalone metrics specified in JSON files to
perf stat. A metric is a formula that uses multiple events to compute a
higher level result (e.g. IPC).
Previously metrics were always tied to an event and automatically
enabled with that event. But now change it that we can have standalone
metrics. They are in the same JSON data structure as events, but don't
have an event name.
We also allow to organize the metrics in metric groups, which allows a
short cut to select several related metrics at once.
Add a new -M / --metrics option to perf stat that adds the metrics or
metric groups specified.
Add the core code to manage and parse the metric groups. They are
collected from the JSON data structures into a separate rblist. When
computing shadow values look for metrics in that list. Then they are
computed using the existing saved values infrastructure in stat-shadow.c
The actual JSON metrics are in a separate pull request.
