For x86 this brings in PCID emulation and CR3 caching for shadow page
tables, nested VMX live migration, nested VMCS shadowing, an optimized
IPI hypercall, and some optimizations.
ARM will come next week.
There is a semantic conflict because tip also added an .init_platform
callback to kvm.c. Please keep the initializer from this branch,
and add a call to kvmclock_init (added by tip) inside kvm_init_platform
(added here).
Also, there is a backmerge from 4.18-rc6. This is because of a
refactoring that conflicted with a relatively late bugfix and
resulted in a particularly hellish conflict. Because the conflict
was only due to unfortunate timing of the bugfix, I backmerged and
rebased the refactoring rather than force the resolution on you.

Here is the bit set of char/misc drivers for 4.19-rc1
There is a lot here, much more than normal, seems like everyone is
writing new driver subsystems these days... Anyway, major things here
are:
- new FSI driver subsystem, yet-another-powerpc low-level
hardware bus
- gnss, finally an in-kernel GPS subsystem to try to tame all of
the crazy out-of-tree drivers that have been floating around
for years, combined with some really hacky userspace
implementations. This is only for GNSS receivers, but you
have to start somewhere, and this is great to see.
Other than that, there are new slimbus drivers, new coresight drivers,
new fpga drivers, and loads of DT bindings for all of these and existing
drivers.
Full details of everything is in the shortlog.
All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported

Commit 1268ed0c47 ("x86/hyper-v: Fix the circular dependency in IPI
enlightenment") pre-filled hv_vp_index with VP_INVAL so it is now
(theoretically) possible to observe hv_cpu_number_to_vp_number()
returning VP_INVAL. We need to check for that in hyperv_flush_tlb_others().
Not checking for VP_INVAL on the first call site where we do
if (hv_cpu_number_to_vp_number(cpumask_last(cpus)) >= 64)
goto do_ex_hypercall;
is OK, in case we're eligible for non-ex hypercall we'll catch the
issue later in for_each_cpu() cycle and in case we'll be doing ex-
hypercall cpumask_to_vpset() will fail.
It would be nice to change hv_cpu_number_to_vp_number() return
value's type to 'u32' but this will likely be a bigger change as
all call sites need to be checked first.

In the VM mode on Hyper-V, currently, when the kernel panics, an error
code and few register values are populated in an MSR and the Hypervisor
notified. This information is collected on the host. The amount of
information currently collected is found to be limited and not very
actionable. To gather more actionable data, such as stack trace, the
proposal is to write one page worth of kmsg data on an allocated page
and the Hypervisor notified of the page address through the MSR.

The Hyper-V feature and hint flags in hyperv-tlfs.h are all defined
with the string "X64" in the name. Some of these flags are indeed
x86/x64 specific, but others are not. For the ones that are used
in architecture independent Hyper-V driver code, or will be used in
the upcoming support for Hyper-V for ARM64, this patch removes the
"X64" from the name.
This patch changes the flags that are currently known to be
used on multiple architectures. Hyper-V for ARM64 is still a
work-in-progress and the Top Level Functional Spec (TLFS) has not
been separated into x86/x64 and ARM64 areas. So additional flags
may need to be updated later.
This patch only changes symbol names. There are no functional
changes.

While working on Hyper-V style PV TLB flush support in KVM I noticed that
real Windows guests use TLB flush hypercall in a somewhat smarter way:
When the flush needs to be performed on a subset of first 64 vCPUs or on
all present vCPUs Windows avoids more expensive hypercalls which support
sparse CPU sets and uses their 'cheap' counterparts.
This means that HV_X64_EX_PROCESSOR_MASKS_RECOMMENDED name is actually a
misnomer: EX hypercalls (which support sparse CPU sets) are "available",
not "recommended". This makes sense as they are actually harder to parse.
Nothing stops us from being equally 'smart' in Linux too. Switch to doing
cheaper hypercalls whenever possible.

The Hyper-V APIC code is built when CONFIG_HYPERV is enabled but the actual
code in that file is guarded with CONFIG_X86_64. There is no point in doing
this. Neither is there a point in having the CONFIG_HYPERV guard in there
because the containing directory is not built when CONFIG_HYPERV=n.
Further for the hv_init_apic() function a stub is provided only for
CONFIG_HYPERV=n, which is pointless as the callsite is not compiled at
all. But for X86_32 the stub is missing and the build fails.
Clean that up:
- Compile hv_apic.c only when CONFIG_X86_64=y
- Make the stub for hv_init_apic() available when CONFG_X86_64=n

Here is the big pull request for char/misc drivers for 4.16-rc1.
There's a lot of stuff in here. Three new driver subsystems were added
for various types of hardware busses:
- siox
- slimbus
- soundwire
as well as a new vboxguest subsystem for the VirtualBox hypervisor
drivers.
There's also big updates from the FPGA subsystem, lots of Android binder
fixes, the usual handful of hyper-v updates, and lots of other smaller
driver updates.
All of these have been in linux-next for a long time, with no reported
issues.

It is very unlikely for CPUs to get offlined when running on Hyper-V as
there is a protection in the vmbus module which prevents it when the guest
has any VMBus devices assigned. This, however, may change in future if an
option to reassign an already active channel will be added. It is also
possible to run without any Hyper-V devices or to have a CPU with no
assigned channels.
Reassign reenlightenment notifications to some other active CPU when the
CPU which is assigned to them goes offline.

Hyper-V supports Live Migration notification. This is supposed to be used
in conjunction with TSC emulation: when a VM is migrated to a host with
different TSC frequency for some short period the host emulates the
accesses to TSC and sends an interrupt to notify about the event. When the
guest is done updating everything it can disable TSC emulation and
everything will start working fast again.
These notifications weren't required until now as Hyper-V guests are not
supposed to use TSC as a clocksource: in Linux the TSC is even marked as
unstable on boot. Guests normally use 'tsc page' clocksource and host
updates its values on migrations automatically.
Things change when with nested virtualization: even when the PV
clocksources (kvm-clock or tsc page) are passed through to the nested
guests the TSC frequency and frequency changes need to be know..
Hyper-V Top Level Functional Specification (as of v5.0b) wrongly specifies
EAX:BIT(12) of CPUID:0x40000009 as the feature identification bit. The
right one to check is EAX:BIT(13) of CPUID:0x40000003. I was assured that
the fix in on the way.

When hypercall-based TLB flush was enabled for Hyper-V guests PCID feature
was deliberately suppressed as a precaution: back then PCID was never
exposed to Hyper-V guests and it wasn't clear what will happen if some day
it becomes available. The day came and PCID/INVPCID features are already
exposed on certain Hyper-V hosts.
From TLFS (as of 5.0b) it is unclear how TLB flush hypercalls combine with
PCID. In particular the usage of PCID is per-cpu based: the same mm gets
different CR3 values on different CPUs. If the hypercall does exact
matching this will fail. However, this is not the case. David Zhang
explains:
"In practice, the AddressSpace argument is ignored on any VM that supports
PCIDs.
Architecturally, the AddressSpace argument must match the CR3 with PCID
bits stripped out (i.e., the low 12 bits of AddressSpace should be 0 in
long mode). The flush hypercalls flush all PCIDs for the specified
AddressSpace."
With this, PCID can be enabled.

hv_is_hypercall_page_setup() is used to check if Hyper-V is
initialized, but a 'hypercall page' is an x86 implementation detail
that isn't necessarily present on other architectures. Rename to the
architecture independent hv_is_hyperv_initialized() and add check
that x86_hyper is pointing to Hyper-V. Use this function instead of
direct references to x86-specific data structures in vmbus_drv.c,
and remove now redundant call in hv_init(). Also remove 'x86' from
the string name passed to cpuhp_setup_state().

Hyper-V allows the guest to report panic and the guest can pass additional
information. All this is logged on the host. Currently Linux is passing back
information that is not particularly useful. Make the following changes:
1. Windows uses crash MSR P0 to report bugcheck code. Follow the same
convention for Linux as well.
2. It will be useful to know the gust ID of the Linux guest that has
paniced. Pass back this information.
These changes will help in better supporting Linux on Hyper-V

Do not consider the fixed size of hv_vp_set when passing the variable
header size to hv_do_rep_hypercall().
The Hyper-V hypervisor specification states that for a hypercall with a
variable header only the size of the variable portion should be supplied
via the input control.
For HVCALL_FLUSH_VIRTUAL_ADDRESS_SPACE_EX/LIST_EX calls that means the
fixed portion of hv_vp_set should not be considered.
That fixes random failures of some applications that are unexpectedly
killed with SIGBUS or SIGSEGV.

hv_do_hypercall() does virt_to_phys() translation and with some configs
(CONFIG_SLAB) this doesn't work for percpu areas, we pass wrong memory to
hypervisor and get #GP. We could use working slow_virt_to_phys() instead
but doing so kills the performance.
Move pcpu_flush/pcpu_flush_ex structures out of percpu areas and
allocate memory on first call. The additional level of indirection gives
us a small performance penalty, in future we may consider introducing
hypercall functions which avoid virt_to_phys() conversion and cache
physical addresses of pcpu_flush/pcpu_flush_ex structures somewhere.

hv_flush_pcpu_ex structures are not cleared between calls for performance
reasons (they're variable size up to PAGE_SIZE each) but we must clear
hv_vp_set.bank_contents part of it to avoid flushing unneeded vCPUs. The
rest of the structure is formed correctly.
To do the clearing in an efficient way stash the maximum possible vCPU
number (this may differ from Linux CPU id).
