The problem is that capi_write() is reading past the end of the message.
Fix it by checking the message's length in the needed places.

Since linux 4.9 it is not possible to use buffers on the stack for DMA transfers.
During usb probe the driver crashes with "transfer buffer is on stack" message.
This fix k-allocates a buffer to be used on "read_reg_atomic", which is a macro
that calls "usb_control_msg" under the hood.

In start_isoc_chain(), usb_alloc_urb() on line 1392 may fail
and return NULL. At this time, fifo->iso[i].urb is assigned to NULL.
Then, fifo->iso[i].urb is used at some places, such as:
LINE 1405: fill_isoc_urb(fifo->iso[i].urb, ...)
urb->number_of_packets = num_packets;
urb->transfer_flags = URB_ISO_ASAP;
urb->actual_length = 0;
urb->interval = interval;
LINE 1416: fifo->iso[i].urb->...
LINE 1419: fifo->iso[i].urb->...
Thus, possible null-pointer dereferences may occur.
To fix these bugs, "continue" is added to avoid using fifo->iso[i].urb
when it is NULL.
These bugs are found by a static analysis tool STCheck written by us.

We need to pick up post-rc1 changes to various document files so they don't
get lost in Mauro's massive RST conversion push.
The mISDN driver was added on those commits:
960366cf8d ("Add mISDN DSP")
1b2b03f8e5 ("Add mISDN core files")
04578dd330 ("Define AF_ISDN and PF_ISDN")
e4ac9bc1f6 ("Add mISDN driver")
None of them added a Documentation/isdn/mISDN.cert file.
Also, whatever were supposed to be written there on that time,
probably doesn't make any sense nowadays, as I doubt isdn would
have any massive changes.
So, let's just get rid of the broken reference, in order to
shut up a warning produced by ./scripts/documentation-file-ref-check.

When isdn4linux came up in the context of another patch series, I
remembered that we had discussed removing it a while ago.
It turns out that the suggestion from Karsten Keil wa to remove I4L
in 2018 after the last public ISDN networks are shut down. This has
happened now (with a very small number of exceptions), so I guess it's
time to try again.
We currently have three ISDN stacks in the kernel: the original
isdn4linux (with the hisax driver), the newer CAPI (with four drivers),
and finally the mISDN stack (supporting roughly the same hardware as
hisax).
As far as I can tell, anyone using ISDN with mainline kernel drivers in
the past few years uses mISDN, and this is typically used for voice-only
PBX installations that don't require a public network.
The older stacks support additional features for data networks, but those
typically make no sense any more if there is no network to connect to.
My proposal for this time is to kill off isdn4linux entirely, as it seems
to have been unusable for quite a while. This code has been abandoned
for many years and it does cause problems for treewide maintenance as
it tends to do everything that we try to stop doing.
Birger Harzenetter mentioned that is is still using i4l in order to
make use of the 'divert' feature that is not part of mISDN, but has
otherwise moved on to mISDN for normal operation, like apparently
everyone else.
CAPI in turn is not quite as obsolete, but two of the drivers (avm
and hysdn) don't seem to be used at all, while another one (gigaset)
will stop being maintained as Paul Bolle is no longer able to
test it after the network gets shut down in September.
All three are now moved into drivers/staging to let others speak
up in case there are remaining users.
This leaves Bluetooth CMTP as the only remaining user of CAPI, but
Marcel Holtmann wishes to keep maintaining it.

Here is another set of reviewed patches that adds SPDX tags to different
kernel files, based on a set of rules that are being used to parse the
comments to try to determine that the license of the file is
"GPL-2.0-or-later" or "GPL-2.0-only". Only the "obvious" versions of
these matches are included here, a number of "non-obvious" variants of
text have been found but those have been postponed for later review and
analysis.
There is also a patch in here to add the proper SPDX header to a bunch
of Kbuild files that we have missed in the past due to new files being
added and forgetting that Kbuild uses two different file names for
Makefiles. This issue was reported by the Kbuild maintainer.
These patches have been out for review on the linux-spdx@vger mailing

hand-verified by a bunch of different people, all whom names are on the
patches are reviewers.

I tried to find any indication of whether the capi drivers are still in
use, and have not found anything from a long time ago.
With public ISDN networks almost completely shut down over the past 12
months, there is very little you can actually do with this hardware. The
main remaining use case would be to connect ISDN voice phones to an
in-house installation with Asterisk or LCR, but anyone trying this in
turn seems to be using either the mISDN driver stack, or out-of-tree
drivers from the hardware vendors.
I may of course have missed something, so I would suggest moving these
three drivers (avm, hysdn, gigaset) into drivers/staging/ just in case
someone still uses them.
If nobody complains, we can remove them entirely in six months, or
otherwise move the core code and any drivers that are still needed back
into drivers/isdn.
As Paul Bolle notes, he is still testing the gigaset driver as long as
he can, but the Dutch ISDN network will be shut down in September 2019,
which puts an end to that.
Marcel Holtmann still maintains the Bluetooth CMTP profile and wants to
keep that alive, so the actual CAPI subsystem code remains in place for
now, after all other drivers are gone, CMTP and CAPI can be merged into
a single driver directory.

The last remnant of the isdn4linux interface is now the isdnhdlc
support, used by the netjet driver. Move it next to that driver.
Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de>
With all isdn4linux hardware drivers gone, this is only a wrapper around
CAPI to support old user space. However, from looking at the mailing
list, it seems that the last time anyone asked about it was in 2014,
when the upgrade from a linux-2.4 installation failed, and mISDN was
suggested as a replacement.
The largest public ISDN network (Deutsche Telekom) was supposed to be
shut down 2018, which must have drastically reduced the number of legacy
installations.
When we last discussed removing i4l in 2016, Karsten Keil suggested
revisiting this in 2018. I guess this is overdue.

With the decline of ISDN, this seems to have become almost completely
obsolete, and even in the past years before that, almost all remaining
users appear to have used mISDN instead.
Birger Harzenetter noted that he is still using i4l/hisax to take
advantage of the 'divert' driver for call diversion, but otherwise uses
mISDN on the same hardware. This is a rare edge case as far as I
can tell, but we are still breaking an actively used work flow
(see https://xkcd.com/1172/).
We debated moving i4l/hisax to staging as an intermediate step, but as
he is not likely to change the setup, and that would just delay breaking
this use case. The alternatives here are to stay on stable kernels
< 5.2, to create an external driver repository for isdn4linux, or to
add divert functionality to mISDN.

The user can change the device_name with the IMSETDEVNAME ioctl, but we
need to ensure that the user's name is NUL terminated. Otherwise it
could result in a buffer overflow when we copy the name back to the user
with IMGETDEVINFO ioctl.
I also changed two strcpy() calls which handle the name to strscpy().
Hopefully, there aren't any other ways to create a too long name, but
it's nice to do this as a kernel hardening measure.

Using scripts/coccinelle/api/stream_open.cocci added in 10dce8af34
("fs: stream_open - opener for stream-like files so that read and write
can run simultaneously without deadlock"), search and convert to
stream_open all in-kernel nonseekable_open users for which read and
write actually do not depend on ppos and where there is no other methods
in file_operations which assume @offset access.
I've verified each generated change manually - that it is correct to convert -
and each other nonseekable_open instance left - that it is either not correct
to convert there, or that it is not converted due to current stream_open.cocci
limitations. The script also does not convert files that should be valid to
convert, but that currently have .llseek = noop_llseek or generic_file_llseek
for unknown reason despite file being opened with nonseekable_open (e.g.
drivers/input/mousedev.c)
Among cases converted 14 were potentially vulnerable to read vs write deadlock

One can also recheck/review the patch via generating it with explanation comments included via
$ make coccicheck MODE=patch COCCI=scripts/coccinelle/api/stream_open.cocci SPFLAGS="-D explain"
(*) This second group also contains cases with read/write deadlocks that
stream_open.cocci don't yet detect, but which are still valid to convert to
stream_open since ppos is not used. For example drivers/pci/switch/switchtec.c
calls wait_for_completion_interruptible() in its .read, but stream_open.cocci
currently detects only "wait_event*" as blocking.

The device ID alone does not uniquely identify a device. Test both the
vendor and device ID to make sure we don't mistakenly think some other

One of the more common cases of allocation size calculations is finding the
size of a structure that has a zero-sized array at the end, along with memory
for some number of elements for that array. For example:
struct foo {
int stuff;
void *entry[];
};
instance = kzalloc(sizeof(struct foo) + sizeof(void *) * count, GFP_KERNEL);
Instead of leaving these open-coded and prone to type mistakes, we can now
use the new struct_size() helper:
instance = kzalloc(struct_size(instance, entry, count), GFP_KERNEL);
This code was detected with the help of Coccinelle.

maintainer was active on the mailing list was when discussing how to
remove it. This was in 2012:
https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/4F4DE175.30002@melware.de/
It looks to me like this has in practice been an orphan for quite a while.
It's throwing warnings about stack size in a function that is in dire
need of refactoring, and it's probably a case of "it's time to call it".

In the iov_iter struct, separate the iterator type from the iterator
direction and use accessor functions to access them in most places.
Convert a bunch of places to use switch-statements to access them rather
then chains of bitwise-AND statements. This makes it easier to add further
iterator types. Also, this can be more efficient as to implement a switch
of small contiguous integers, the compiler can use ~50% fewer compare
instructions than it has to use bitwise-and instructions.
Further, cease passing the iterator type into the iterator setup function.
The iterator function can set that itself. Only the direction is required.

The root cause is that the _IOC macro can generate really large numbers,
which don't find into type int. My research into how GCC and Clang are
handling this at a low level didn't prove fruitful and surveying the
kernel tree shows that aside from here and a few places in the scsi
subsystem, everything that uses _IOC is at least of type 'unsigned int'.
Make that change here because as nothing in this function cares about
the signedness of the variable and it removes ambiguity, which is never
good when dealing with compilers.
While we're here, remove the unnecessary local variable ret (just return
-EINVAL and 0 directly).

In my attempt to hide the warnings because I thought they didn't serve

hci_pci.c should be using a standard register access method; otherwise,
the compiler will just remove the if statements.
For hfc_pci, use the versions of {Read,Write}_hfc found in
drivers/isdn/hardware/mISDN/hfc_pCI.h while converting pci_io to be
'void __iomem *' (and clean up ioremap) then remove the empty if
statements.
For hfc_sx, {Read,Write}_hfc are already use a proper register accessor
(inb, outb) so just remove the unnecessary if statements.

The poll() changes were not well thought out, and completely
unexplained. They also caused a huge performance regression, because
"->poll()" was no longer a trivial file operation that just called down
to the underlying file operations, but instead did at least two indirect
calls.
Indirect calls are sadly slow now with the Spectre mitigation, but the
performance problem could at least be largely mitigated by changing the
"->get_poll_head()" operation to just have a per-file-descriptor pointer
to the poll head instead. That gets rid of one of the new indirections.
But that doesn't fix the new complexity that is completely unwarranted
for the regular case. The (undocumented) reason for the poll() changes
was some alleged AIO poll race fixing, but we don't make the common case
slower and more complex for some uncommon special case, so this all
really needs way more explanations and most likely a fundamental
redesign.

The USB completion callback does not disable interrupts while acquiring
the ->lock. We want to remove the local_irq_disable() invocation from
__usb_hcd_giveback_urb() and therefore it is required for the callback
handler to disable the interrupts while acquiring the lock.
The callback may be invoked either in IRQ or BH context depending on the
USB host controller.

In divasmain.c, the function divas_write() firstly invokes the function
diva_xdi_open_adapter() to open the adapter that matches with the adapter
number provided by the user, and then invokes the function diva_xdi_write()
to perform the write operation using the matched adapter. The two functions
diva_xdi_open_adapter() and diva_xdi_write() are located in diva.c.
In diva_xdi_open_adapter(), the user command is copied to the object 'msg'
from the userspace pointer 'src' through the function pointer 'cp_fn',
which eventually calls copy_from_user() to do the copy. Then, the adapter
number 'msg.adapter' is used to find out a matched adapter from the
'adapter_queue'. A matched adapter will be returned if it is found.
Otherwise, NULL is returned to indicate the failure of the verification on
the adapter number.
As mentioned above, if a matched adapter is returned, the function
diva_xdi_write() is invoked to perform the write operation. In this
function, the user command is copied once again from the userspace pointer
'src', which is the same as the 'src' pointer in diva_xdi_open_adapter() as
both of them are from the 'buf' pointer in divas_write(). Similarly, the
copy is achieved through the function pointer 'cp_fn', which finally calls
copy_from_user(). After the successful copy, the corresponding command
processing handler of the matched adapter is invoked to perform the write
operation.
It is obvious that there are two copies here from userspace, one is in
diva_xdi_open_adapter(), and one is in diva_xdi_write(). Plus, both of
these two copies share the same source userspace pointer, i.e., the 'buf'
pointer in divas_write(). Given that a malicious userspace process can race
to change the content pointed by the 'buf' pointer, this can pose potential
security issues. For example, in the first copy, the user provides a valid
adapter number to pass the verification process and a valid adapter can be
found. Then the user can modify the adapter number to an invalid number.
This way, the user can bypass the verification process of the adapter
number and inject inconsistent data.
This patch reuses the data copied in
diva_xdi_open_adapter() and passes it to diva_xdi_write(). This way, the
above issues can be avoided.

Before:
All these functions either return a negative error indicator,
or store length of sockaddr into "int *socklen" parameter
and return zero on success.
"int *socklen" parameter is awkward. For example, if caller does not
care, it still needs to provide on-stack storage for the value
it does not need.
None of the many FOO_getname() functions of various protocols
ever used old value of *socklen. They always just overwrite it.
This change drops this parameter, and makes all these functions, on success,
return length of sockaddr. It's always >= 0 and can be differentiated
from an error.
Tests in callers are changed from "if (err)" to "if (err < 0)", where needed.
rpc_sockname() lost "int buflen" parameter, since its only use was
to be passed to kernel_getsockname() as &buflen and subsequently
not used in any way.
Userspace API is not changed.

This is the mindless scripted replacement of kernel use of POLL*
variables as described by Al, done by this script:
for V in IN OUT PRI ERR RDNORM RDBAND WRNORM WRBAND HUP RDHUP NVAL MSG; do
L=`git grep -l -w POLL$V | grep -v '^t' | grep -v /um/ | grep -v '^sa' | grep -v '/poll.h$'|grep -v '^D'`
for f in $L; do sed -i "-es/^\([^\"]*\)\(\<POLL$V\>\)/\\1E\\2/" $f; done
done
with de-mangling cleanups yet to come.
NOTE! On almost all architectures, the EPOLL* constants have the same
values as the POLL* constants do. But they keyword here is "almost".
For various bad reasons they aren't the same, and epoll() doesn't
actually work quite correctly in some cases due to this on Sparc et al.
The next patch from Al will sort out the final differences, and we
should be all done.

Pull kern_recvmsg reduction from Al Viro:
"kernel_recvmsg() is a set_fs()-using wrapper for sock_recvmsg(). In
all but one case that is not needed - use of ITER_KVEC for ->msg_iter
takes care of the data and does not care about set_fs(). The only
exception is svc_udp_recvfrom() where we want cmsg to be store into
kernel object; everything else can just use sock_recvmsg() and be done
with that.
A followup converting svc_udp_recvfrom() away from set_fs() (and
killing kernel_recvmsg() off) is *NOT* in here - I'd like to hear what
netdev folks think of the approach proposed in that followup)"
* 'work.sock_recvmsg' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/viro/vfs:
tipc: switch to sock_recvmsg()
smc: switch to sock_recvmsg()
ipvs: switch to sock_recvmsg()
mISDN: switch to sock_recvmsg()
drbd: switch to sock_recvmsg()
lustre lnet_sock_read(): switch to sock_recvmsg()
cfs2: switch to sock_recvmsg()
ncpfs: switch to sock_recvmsg()
dlm: switch to sock_recvmsg()

here we do need to reinitialize ->msg_iter on each call - the
data in buffer is overwritten every time, not appended to.

This mechanically converts all remaining cases of ancient open-coded timer
setup with the old setup_timer() API, which is the first step in timer
conversions. This has no behavioral changes, since it ultimately just
changes the order of assignment to fields of struct timer_list when
finding variations of:
init_timer(&t);
f.function = timer_callback;
t.data = timer_callback_arg;
to be converted into:
setup_timer(&t, timer_callback, timer_callback_arg);
The conversion is done with the following Coccinelle script, which
is an improved version of scripts/cocci/api/setup_timer.cocci, in the
following ways:
- assignments-before-init_timer() cases
- limit the .data case removal to the specific struct timer_list instance
- handling calls by dereference (timer->field vs timer.field)

Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
- file had no licensing information it it.
- file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
- file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
lines of source
- File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 11139
and resulted in the first patch in this series.
If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH
Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930
and resulted in the second patch in this series.
- if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one
of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if
any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in
it (per prior point). Results summary:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270
GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17
LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15
GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14
((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5
LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4
LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1
and that resulted in the third patch in this series.
- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

In isdn_ppp_write(), the header (i.e., protobuf) of the buffer is
fetched twice from userspace. The first fetch is used to peek at the
protocol of the message and reset the huptimer if necessary; while the
second fetch copies in the whole buffer. However, given that buf resides
in userspace memory, a user process can race to change its memory content
across fetches. By doing so, we can either avoid resetting the huptimer
for any type of packets (by first setting proto to PPP_LCP and later
change to the actual type) or force resetting the huptimer for LCP
packets.
This patch changes this double-fetch behavior into two single fetches
decided by condition (lp->isdn_device < 0 || lp->isdn_channel <0).

gcc-7 found an ancient bug in the loop driver, leading to a condition that
is always false, meaning we ignore the contents of 'card->flags' here:
drivers/isdn/isdnloop/isdnloop.c:412:37: error: ?: using integer constants in boolean context, the expression will always evaluate to 'true' [-Werror=int-in-bool-context]
This changes the braces in the expression to ensure we actually
compare the flag bits, rather than comparing a constant. As Joe Perches
pointed out, an earlier patch of mine incorrectly assumed this was a
false-positive warning.

If mISDN_FsmNew() fails to allocate memory for jumpmatrix
then null pointer dereference will occur on any write to
jumpmatrix.
The patch adds check on successful allocation and
corresponding error handling.

The UDP offload conflict is dealt with by simply taking what is
in net-next where we have removed all of the UFO handling code
entirely.
The TCP conflict was a case of local variables in a function
being removed from both net and net-next.
In netvsc we had an assignment right next to where a missing
set of u64 stats sync object inits were added.

The synchronization type that was used earlier to guard the loop that
deletes unused log buffers may lead to a situation that prevents any
thread from going through the loop.
The patch deletes previously used synchronization mechanism and moves
the loop under the spin_lock so the similar cases won't be feasible in
the future.

This series includes some mlx5 updates for both net-next and rdma trees.
From Saeed,
Core driver updates to allow selectively building the driver with
or without some large driver components, such as
- E-Switch (Ethernet SRIOV support).
- Multi-Physical Function Switch (MPFs) support.
For that we split E-Switch and MPFs functionalities into separate files.
From Erez,
Delay mlx5_core events when mlx5 interfaces, namely mlx5_ib, registration
is taking place and until it completes.
From Rabie,
Increase the maximum supported flow counters.

This fixes a potential buffer overflow in isdn_net.c caused by an
unbounded strcpy.
[ ISDN seems to be effectively unmaintained, and the I4L driver in
particular is long deprecated, but in case somebody uses this..
