265b71153e perf list: Fix the --no-desc option
Currently, the --no-desc option in perf list isn't functioning as
intended.

This issue arises from the overwriting of struct option->desc with the
opposite value of struct option->long_desc. Consequently, whatever
parse_options() returns at struct option->desc gets overridden later,
rendering the --desc or --no-desc arguments ineffective.

To resolve this, set ->desc as true by default and allow parse_options()
to adjust it accordingly. This adjustment will fix the --no-desc
option while preserving the functionality of the other parameters.

aa1f4ad287 perf list: Allow wordwrap to wrap on commas
A raw event encoding may be a block with terms separated by commas. If
wrapping such a string it would be useful to break at the commas, so
add this ability to wordwrap.

81377de00f perf list: For metricgroup only list include description
If perf list is invoked with 'metricgroups' include the description
unless it is invoked with flags to exclude it. Make the description of
metricgroup dumping dependent on the desc flag in print_state as with
metrics.

478c3f5dcd perf list: Don't print Unit for "default_core"
"default_core" was added as a way to demark JSON events whose PMU should
be whatever the default core PMU is, previously this had been assumed to
be "cpu" but that fails on s390 and ARM.

'perf list' displays the PMU in the event description to save storing it
in JSON, but was still comparing against "cpu" and not "default_core",
so update this.

cd4e1efbbc perf pmus: Skip duplicate PMUs and don't print list suffix by default
Add a PMUs scan that ignores duplicates. When there are multiple PMUs
that differ only by suffix, by default just list the first one and
skip all others. The scan routine checks that the PMU names match but
doesn't enforce that the numbers are consecutive as for some PMUs
there are gaps. If "-v" is passed to "perf list" then list all PMUs.

With the previous change duplicate PMUs are no longer printed but the
suffix of the first is printed. When duplicate PMUs are being skipped
avoid printing the suffix.

c091ee9089 perf pmu: Remove logic for PMU name being NULL
The PMU name could be NULL in the case of the fake_pmu. Initialize the
name for the fake_pmu to "fake" so that all other logic can assume it
is initialized. Add a const to the type of name so that a literal can
be used to avoid additional initialization code. Propagate the cost
through related routines and remove now unnecessary "(char *)"
casts. Doing this located a bug in builtin-list for the pmu_glob that
was missing a strdup.

eeb6b12992 perf jevents: Don't append Unit to desc
Unit with the PMU name is appended to desc in jevents.py, but on
hybrid platforms it causes the desc to differ from the regular
non-hybrid system with a PMU of 'cpu'. Having differing descs means
the events don't deduplicate. To make the perf list output not differ,
append the Unit on again in the perf list printing code.

On x86 reduces the binary size by 409,600 bytes or about 4%. Update
pmu-events test expectations to match the differently generated
pmu-events.c code.

66c6e0c100 perf jevents: Add support for metricgroup descriptions
Metrics have a field where the groups they belong to are listed like
the following from
tools/perf/pmu-events/arch/x86/skylakex/skx-metrics.json:

        "MetricGroup": "PGO;TmaL1;TopdownL1;tma_L1_group",
        "MetricName": "tma_frontend_bound",

The metric groups are shown in 'perf list' like the following where
TopdownL1 is a metric group:

TopdownL1:
  tma_backend_bound
       [This category represents fraction of slots where no uops are being
        delivered due to a lack of required resources for accepting new uops
        in the Backend]
  tma_bad_speculation
       [This category represents fraction of slots wasted due to incorrect
        speculations]
  tma_frontend_bound
       [This category represents fraction of slots where the processor's
        Frontend undersupplies its Backend]
  tma_retiring
       [This category represents fraction of slots utilized by useful work
        i.e. issued uops that eventually get retired]

This patch adds support for a new json file in each model directory
called metricgroups.json that comprises a dictionary containing
entries that map from a metric group to a description:

perf list is then updated to support this changing the above output

003be8c4f7 perf stat: Make cputype filter generic
Rather than limit the --cputype argument for "perf list" and "perf
stat" to hybrid PMUs of just cpu_atom and cpu_core, allow any PMU.

Note, that if cpu_atom isn't mounted but a filter of cpu_atom is
requested, then this will now fail. As such a filter would never
succeed, no events can come from that unmounted PMU, then this
behavior could never have been useful and failing is clearer.

f7a858bffc tools: Rename __fallthrough to fallthrough
Rename the fallthrough attribute to better align with the kernel
version.  Copy the definition from include/linux/compiler_attributes.h
including the #else clause.  Adding the #else clause allows the tools
compiler.h header to drop the check for a definition entirely and keeps
both definitions together.

Change any __fallthrough statements to fallthrough anywhere it was used
within perf.

This allows other tools to use the same key word as the kernel.

d9dc8874d6 perf pmu-events: Remove now unused event and metric variables
Previous changes separated the uses of pmu_event and pmu_metric,
however, both structures contained all the variables of event and
metric. This change removes the event variables from metric and the
metric variables from event.

Note, this change removes the setting of evsel's metric_name/expr as
these fields are no longer part of struct pmu_event. The metric
remains but is no longer implicitly requested when the event is. This
impacts a few Intel uncore events, however, as the ScaleUnit is shared
by the event and the metric this utility is questionable. Also the
MetricNames look broken (contain spaces) in some cases and when trying
to use the functionality with '-e' the metrics fail but regular
metrics with '-M' work. For example, on SkylakeX '-M' works:

The code also carries warnings where the user is supposed to select

e5c6109f48 perf list: Reorganize to use callbacks to allow honouring command line options
Rather than controlling the list output with passed flags, add
callbacks that are called when an event or metric are
encountered. State is passed to the callback so that command line
options can be respected, alternatively the callbacks can be changed.

Fix a few bugs:
 - wordwrap to columns metric descriptions and expressions;
 - remove unnecessary whitespace after PMU event names;
 - the metric filter is a glob but matched using strstr which will
   always fail, switch to using a proper globmatch,
 - the detail flag gives details for extra kernel PMU events like
   branch-instructions.

In metricgroup.c switch from struct mep being a rbtree of metricgroups
containing a list of metrics, to the tree directly containing all the
metrics. In general the alias for a name is passed to the print
routine rather than being contained in the name with OR.

Fix ps.pmu_glob setting when dealing with *:* events, it was being left
with a freed pointer that then at the end of cmd_list() would be double
freed.

Check if pmu_name is NULL in default_print_event() before calling
strglobmatch(pmu_name, ...) to avoid a segfault.

Deprecate the --cputype option and add a --unit option where '--unit
cpu_atom' behaves like '--cputype atom'. The --unit option can be used
with arbitrary PMUs, for example:

9b7c7728f4 perf parse-events: Break out tracepoint and printing
Move print_*_events functions out of parse-events.c into a new
print-events.c. Move tracepoint code into tracepoint.c or
trace-event-info.c (sole user). This reduces the dependencies of
parse-events.c and makes it more amenable to being a library in the
future.

Remove some unnecessary definitions from parse-events.h. Fix a
checkpatch.pl warning on using unsigned rather than unsigned int.  Fix
some line length warnings too.

0e0ae87422 perf list: Display hybrid PMU events with cpu type
Add a new option '--cputype' to 'perf list' to display core-only PMU
events or atom-only PMU events.

Each hybrid PMU event has been assigned with a PMU name, this patch
compares the PMU name before listing the result.

For example:

  perf list --cputype atom
  ...
  cache:
    core_reject_l2q.any
         [Counts the number of request that were not accepted into the L2Q because the L2Q is FULL. Unit: cpu_atom]
  ...

The "Unit: cpu_atom" is displayed in the brief description section
to indicate this is an atom event.

a7f6c8c81a perf list: Hide deprecated events by default
There are some deprecated events listed by perf list. But we can't
remove them from perf list with ease because some old scripts may use
them.

Deprecated events are old names of renamed events.  When an event gets
renamed the old name is kept around for some time and marked with
Deprecated. The newer Intel event lists in the tree already have these
headers.

So we need to keep them in the event list, but provide a new option to
show them. The new option is "--deprecated".

With this patch, the deprecated events are hidden by default but they
can be displayed when option "--deprecated" is enabled.

b24413180f License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.

By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.

Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier.  The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.

This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.

How this work was done:

Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
 - file had no licensing information it it.
 - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
 - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,

Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.

The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne.  Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.

The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed.  Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
 - Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
 - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
   lines of source
 - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
   lines).

All documentation files were explicitly excluded.

The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.

 - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
   considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
   COPYING file license applied.

   For non */uapi/* files that summary was:

   SPDX license identifier                            # files

   and that resulted in the third patch in this series.

 - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
   the concluded license(s).

 - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
   license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
   licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.

 - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
   resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
   which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).

 - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
   confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

 - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
   the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
   in time.

In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights.  The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.

Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.

In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.

Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
 - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
   license ids and scores
 - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
   files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
 - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
   was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
   SPDX license was correct

This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction.  This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.

These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg.  Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected.  This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.)  Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

f23610245c perf list: Add debug support for outputing alias string
For debugging and testing it is useful to see the converted alias
string. Add support to perf stat/record and perf list to print the alias
conversion. The text string is saved in the alias structure.  For perf
stat/record it is folded into the normal -v. For perf list -v was taken,
so we use --debug.

Before:

% perf list
...
cache:
  l1d.replacement
       [L1D data line replacements]
  l1d_pend_miss.fb_full
       [Cycles a demand request was blocked due to Fill Buffers inavailability]

After

% perf list --debug

Previously we were dropping the useful longer descriptions that some
events have in the event list completely. This patch makes them appear with
perf list.

Old perf list:

baclears:
  baclears.all
       [Counts the number of baclears]

vs new:

perf list -v:
...
baclears:
  baclears.all
       [The BACLEARS event counts the number of times the front end is
        resteered, mainly when the Branch Prediction Unit cannot provide
        a correct prediction and this is corrected by the Branch Address
        Calculator at the front end. The BACLEARS.ANY event counts the
        number of baclears for any type of branch]

Add a --no-desc flag to 'perf list' to not print the event descriptions
that were earlier added for JSON events. This may be useful to get a
less crowded listing.

It's still default to print descriptions as that is the more useful
default for most users.

Extend 'perf list --raw-dump' to 'perf list --raw-dump [hw|sw|cache
|tracepoint|pmu|event_glob]' in order to show the raw-dump of a certain
kind of events rather than all of the events.
