ba58d1020a timekeeping: Ignore the bogus sleep time if pm_trace is enabled
Power management suspend/resume tracing (ab)uses the RTC to store
suspend/resume information persistently. As a consequence the RTC value is
clobbered when timekeeping is resumed and tries to inject the sleep time.

Commit a4f8f6667f ("timekeeping: Cap array access in timekeeping_debug")
plugged a out of bounds array access in the timekeeping debug code which
was caused by the clobbered RTC value, but we still use the clobbered RTC
value for sleep time injection into kernel timekeeping, which will result
in random adjustments depending on the stored "hash" value.

To prevent this keep track of the RTC clobbering and ignore the invalid RTC
timestamp at resume. If the system resumed successfully clear the flag,
which marks the RTC as unusable, warn the user about the RTC clobber and
recommend to adjust the RTC with 'ntpdate' or 'rdate'.

[jstultz: Fixed up pr_warn formating, and implemented suggestions from Ingo]

463a86304c char/genrtc: x86: remove remnants of asm/rtc.h
Commit 3195ef59cb ("x86: Do full rtc synchronization with ntp") had
the side-effect of unconditionally enabling the RTC_LIB symbol on x86,
which in turn disables the selection of the CONFIG_RTC and
CONFIG_GEN_RTC drivers that contain a two older implementations of
the CONFIG_RTC_DRV_CMOS driver.

This removes x86 from the list for genrtc, and changes all references
to the asm/rtc.h header to instead point to the interfaces
from linux/mc146818rtc.h.

a50b22a7a1 x86/init: Disable pnpbios and rtc for X86_SUBARCH_CE4100
As per hpa CE4100 platforms can also disable pnpbios:

  http://lkml.kernel.org/r/5702B5C2.7070101@zytor.com

Then Sebastian also recently noted that CE4100 also disables
RTC probe, to do that Sebastian had long ago added the RTC
of_have_populated_dt() check, he noted that it was meant to
skip the RTC probe on all OF platforms but as of now, CE4100
was the only x86 DT using this.

We can just fold this requirement into the platform quirk
then. This now means that all of these match platform quirks
for pnpbios and RTC preferences:

  * X86_SUBARCH_XEN
  * X86_SUBARCH_LGUEST
  * X86_SUBARCH_INTEL_MID
  * X86_SUBARCH_CE4100

088a8ef820 x86/ACPI: Move ACPI_FADT_NO_CMOS_RTC check to ACPI boot code
This moves the ACPI specific check into the ACPI boot code,
it also takes advantage of the x86_platform.legacy.rtc which
is checked for already on the RTC initialization code. This
lets us remove the nasty #ifdefery and consolidate the checks
to use only one toggle to disable the RTC init code.

The works as RTC is initialized by device_initcall(add_rtc_cmos),
this will run late in boot on start_kernel() during rest_init(),
acpi_parse_fadt() gets called earlier during setup_arch().

8d152e7a5c x86/rtc: Replace paravirt rtc check with platform legacy quirk
We have 4 types of x86 platforms that disable RTC:

  * Intel MID
  * Lguest - uses paravirt
  * Xen dom-U - uses paravirt
  * x86 on legacy systems annotated with an ACPI legacy flag

We can consolidate all of these into a platform specific legacy
quirk set early in boot through i386_start_kernel() and through
x86_64_start_reservations(). This deals with the RTC quirks which
we can rely on through the hardware subarch, the ACPI check can
be dealt with separately.

For Xen things are bit more complex given that the @X86_SUBARCH_XEN
x86_hardware_subarch is shared on for Xen which uses the PV path for
both domU and dom0. Since the semantics for differentiating between
the two are Xen specific we provide a platform helper to help override
default legacy features -- x86_platform.set_legacy_features(). Use
of this helper is highly discouraged, its only purpose should be
to account for the lack of semantics available within your given
x86_hardware_subarch.

As per 0-day, this bumps the vmlinux size using i386-tinyconfig as
follows:

TOTAL   TEXT   init.text    x86_early_init_platform_quirks()
+70     +62    +62          +43

Only 8 bytes overhead total, as the main increase in size is
all removed via __init.

d8c98a1d14 x86/paravirt: Prevent rtc_cmos platform device init on PV guests
Adding the rtc platform device in non-privileged Xen PV guests causes
an IRQ conflict because these guests do not have legacy PIC and may
allocate irqs in the legacy range.

In a single VCPU Xen PV guest we should have:

/proc/interrupts:
           CPU0
  0:       4934  xen-percpu-virq      timer0
  1:          0  xen-percpu-ipi       spinlock0
  2:          0  xen-percpu-ipi       resched0
  3:          0  xen-percpu-ipi       callfunc0
  4:          0  xen-percpu-virq      debug0
  5:          0  xen-percpu-ipi       callfuncsingle0
  6:          0  xen-percpu-ipi       irqwork0
  7:        321   xen-dyn-event     xenbus
  8:         90   xen-dyn-event     hvc_console
  ...

But hvc_console cannot get its interrupt because it is already in use
by rtc0 and the console does not work.

  genirq: Flags mismatch irq 8. 00000000 (hvc_console) vs. 00000000 (rtc0)

We can avoid this problem by realizing that unprivileged PV guests (both
Xen and lguests) are not supposed to have rtc_cmos device and so
adding it is not necessary.

Privileged guests (i.e. Xen's dom0) do use it but they should not have
irq conflicts since they allocate irqs above legacy range (above
gsi_top, in fact).

Instead of explicitly testing whether the guest is privileged we can
extend pv_info structure to include information about guest's RTC
support.

__FUNCTION__ hasn't been treated as a string literal since gcc 3.4, so
this only helps people who only test-compile using 3.3 (compiler-gcc3.h

3565184ed0 x86: Increase precision of x86_platform.get/set_wallclock()
All the virtualized platforms (KVM, lguest and Xen) have persistent
wallclocks that have more than one second of precision.

read_persistent_wallclock() and update_persistent_wallclock() allow
for nanosecond precision but their implementation on x86 with
x86_platform.get/set_wallclock() only allows for one second precision.
This means guests may see a wallclock time that is off by up to 1
second.

Make set_wallclock() and get_wallclock() take a struct timespec
parameter (which allows for nanosecond precision) so KVM and Xen
guests may start with a more accurate wallclock time and a Xen dom0
can maintain a more accurate wallclock for guests.

3195ef59cb x86: Do full rtc synchronization with ntp
Every 11 minutes ntp attempts to update the x86 rtc with the current
system time. Currently, the x86 code only updates the rtc if the system
time is within +/-15 minutes of the current value of the rtc. This
was done originally to avoid setting the RTC if the RTC was in localtime
mode (common with Windows dualbooting). Other architectures do a full
synchronization and now that we have better infrastructure to detect
when the RTC is in localtime, there is no reason that x86 should be
software limited to a 30 minute window.

This patch changes the behavior of the kernel to do a full synchronization
(year, month, day, hour, minute, and second) of the rtc when ntp requests
a synchronization between the system time and the rtc.

I've used the RTC library functions in this patchset as they do all the
required bounds checking.

Serialize EFI time accesses on rtc_lock") because efi_get_time()
and friends can be called with rtc_lock already held by
read_persistent_time(), e.g.:

 timekeeping_init()
    read_persistent_clock()     <-- acquire rtc_lock
        efi_get_time()
            phys_efi_get_time() <-- acquire rtc_lock <DEADLOCK>

To fix this let's push the locking down into the get_wallclock()
and set_wallclock() implementations. Only the clock
implementations that access the x86 RTC directly need to acquire
rtc_lock, so it makes sense to push the locking down into the
rtc, vrtc and efi code.

The virtualization implementations don't require rtc_lock to be
held because they provide their own serialization.

3bcbaf6e08 rtc: cmos: Add OF bindings
This allows to load the OF driver based informations from the device
tree. Systems without BIOS may need to perform some initialization.
PowerPC creates a PNP device from the OF information and performs this
kind of initialization in their private PCI quirk. This looks more
generic.

This patch also avoids registering the platform RTC driver on X86 if
we have a device tree blob. Otherwise we would setup the device based
on the hardcoded information in arch/x86 rather than the device tree
based one.

3e5c12409c set_rtc_mmss: show warning message only once
Occasionally the system gets into a state where the CMOS clock has gotten
slightly ahead of current time and the periodic update of RTC fails. The
message is a nuisance and repeats spamming the log.

  See: http://www.ntp.org/ntpfaq/NTP-s-trbl-spec.htm#Q-LINUX-SET-RTC-MMSS

Rather than just removing the message, make it show only once and reduce
severity since it indicates a normal and non urgent condition.

758a7f7bb8 x86: register a platform RTC device if PNP doesn't describe it
Most if not all x86 platforms have an RTC device, but sometimes the RTC
is not exposed as a PNP0b00/PNP0b01/PNP0b02 device in PNPBIOS or ACPI:

    http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11580
    https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=451188

It's best if we can discover the RTC via PNP because then we know
which flavor of device it is, where it lives, and which IRQ it uses.

But if we can't, we should register a platform device using the
compiled-in RTC_PORT/RTC_IRQ resource assumptions.

1da2e3d679 provide rtc_cmos platform device
Recently (around 2.6.25) I've noticed that RTC no longer works for me. It
turned out this is because I use pnpacpi=off kernel option to work around
the parport_pc bugs. I always did so, but RTC used to work fine in the
past, and now it have regressed.

The patch fixes the problem by creating the platform device for the RTC
when PNP is disabled. This may also help running the PNP-enabled kernel
on an older PCs.

04aaa7ba09 x86: fix cmos read and write to not use inb_p and outb_p
fix code to access CMOS rtc registers so that it does not use inb_p and
outb_p routines, which are deprecated. Extensive research on all known
CMOS RTC chipset timing shows that there is no need for a delay in
accessing the registers of these chips even on old machines. These chipa
are never on an expansion bus, but have always been "motherboard"
resources, either in the processor chipset or explicitly on the
motherboard, and they are not part of the ISA/LPC or PCI buses, so
delays should not be based on bus timing. The reason to fix it:

 1) port 80 writes often hang some laptops that use ENE EC chipsets,
    esp. those designed and manufactured by Quanta for HP;

 2) RTC accesses are timing sensitive, and extra microseconds may matter;

 3) the new "io_delay" function is calibrated by expansion bus timing needs,
    thus is not appropriate for access to CMOS rtc registers.
