Calling convention for internal functions and 'asmlinkage' functions is
different on x86-32. Therefore do not directly cast aesni_enc as XTS tweak
function, but use wrapper function in between. Fixes crash with "XTS +
aesni_intel + x86-32" combination.

If a debugger tries to zero a hardware debug control register, the
kernel will try to infer both the type and length of the breakpoint
in order to sanity-check against the requested regset type. This will
fail because the encoding will appear as a zero-length breakpoint.
This patch changes the control register setting so that disabled
breakpoints are treated as HW_BREAKPOINT_EMPTY and no further
sanity-checking is required.

For historical reasons, ARM used to set r0-r2 in start_thread() to the
first values on the user stack when starting a new user application. The
same logic has been inherited in AArch64. The x0 register is overridden
by the sys_execve() return value so it's always zero on success. The x1
and x2 registers are ignored by AArch64 and EABI AArch32 applications,
so we can safely remove the register setting for both native and compat
user space.
This also fixes a potential fault with the kernel accessing user space
stack directly.

Earlier without cpuidle framework on pseries, the native arch
idle routine comprised of both snooze and nap
states. smt_snooze_delay variable was used to delay
the idle process entry to deeper idle state like nap.
With the coming of cpuidle, this arch specific idle was replaced
by two different idle routines, one for supporting snooze and other
for nap. This enabled addition of more
low level idle states on pseries in the future.
On adopting the generic cpuidle framework for POWER systems,
the decision of which idle state to choose from, given a predicted
idle time is taken by the menu governor based on
target_residency and exit_latency of the idle states.
target_residency is the minimum time to be resident in that idle state.
Exit_latency is time taken to exit out of idle state.
Deeper the idle state, both the target residency and exit latency
would be higher.
In the current design, smt_snooze_delay is used as target_residency
for the snooze state which is incorrect, as it is not the
minimum but the maximum duration to be in snooze state.
This would result in the governor in taking bad decision,
as presently target_residency of nap < target_residency of snooze
inspite of nap being deeper idle state.
This patch aims to fix this problem by replacing the smt_snooze_delay loop
in snooze state, with the need_resched() as the governor is aware of
entry and exit of various idle transitions based on which
next idle time prediction.
The governor is intelligent enough to determine the idle state the needs to
be transitioned to and maintains a whole of heuristics including
io load, previous idle states predictions etc for the same, based on
which idle state entry decision is taken.
With this fix, of setting target_residency of snooze to 0
nap to smt_snooze_delay
if the predicted idle time is less
than smt_snooze_delay (target_residency of nap)
value governor would pick snooze state, else nap. This adhers to the
previous native idle design.

smt_snooze_delay was designed to delay idle loop's nap entry
in the native idle code before it got ported over to use as part of
the cpuidle framework.
A -ve value assigned to smt_snooze_delay should result in
busy looping, in other words disabling the entry to nap state.
- https://lists.ozlabs.org/pipermail/linuxppc-dev/2010-May/082450.html
This particular functionality can be achieved currently by
echo 1 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/state1/disable
but it is broken when one assigns -ve value to the smt_snooze_delay
variable either via sysfs entry or ppc64_cpu util.
This patch aims to fix this, by disabling nap state when smt_snooze_delay
variable is set to -ve value.

Remove the redundant target residency initialisation in pseries_cpuidle_driver_init().
This is currently over-writing the residency time updated as part of the static
table, resulting in all the idle states having the same target
residency of 100us which is incorrect. This may result in the menu governor making
wrong state decisions.

Merge tag 'uapi-fixes-20121017' of git://git.infradead.org/users/dhowells/linux-headers
Pull misc UAPI fixes from David Howells:
"They do a number of things:
(1) Import a patch from Catalin Marinas to extend the generic-y in
Kbuild facility to uapi directories.
(2) Make arch/tile's ucontext.h file use (1) and remove the header-y
line from the kernel internal side of things.
(3) Remove some now-empty conditional bits from include/linux/Kbuild.
The contents got moved to the UAPI side of things along with new
conditionals.
(4) Deal with now-empty files:
(a) Empty Kbuild files under include/ get removed.
(b) Empty Kbuild files under arch/ get comments to hold them as
they are likely to end up with generic-y or genhdr-y lines.
Deleting them appears to work if we want to go that route.
(c) Put a comment into uapi/asm-generic/kvm_para.h to prevent the
patch program from deleting that, and made the arches with
empty kvm_para.h uapi files use that instead of having their
own files.
(d) Put comments into four other empty uapi/ headers to prevent the
patch program from deleting them.
A question: Is this the right way to deal with the now-empty Kbuild
files?

When booting on a federated multi-server system (NumaScale), the
processor Northbridge lookup returns NULL; add guards to prevent this
causing an oops.
On those systems, the northbridge is accessed through MMIO and the
"normal" northbridge enumeration in amd_nb.c doesn't work since we're
generating the northbridge ID from the initial APIC ID and the last
is not unique on those systems. Long story short, we end up without
northbridge descriptors.

On systems with very large memory (1 TB in our case), BIOS may report a
reserved region or a hole in the E820 map, even above the 4 GB range. Exclude
these from the direct mapping.
[ hpa: this should be done not just for > 4 GB but for everything above the legacy
region (1 MB), at the very least. That, however, turns out to require significant
restructuring. That work is well underway, but is not suitable for rc/stable. ]

Previously the code only acquired spinlock after increasing / decreasing
the usecount value, which is wrong. This leaves a small window where
a task switch may occur between the check of the usecount and the actual
wakeup / sleep of the domain. Fixed by moving the spinlock locking before
the usecount access. Left the usecount as atomic_t if someone wants an

s3c2440_clk_add is a subsys_interface method and calls clkdev_add_table,
which is marked as __init. The modpost script complains about this
because we must not call an __init function from a function in the .text
section, and we cannot reference an __init function from a subsys_interface
pointer.
I have verified that the only code path into s3c2440_clk_add() is
from "int __init s3c2440_init(void)", so s3c2440_clk_add can be marked
__init_refok instead.
Without this patch, building mini2440_defconfig results in:

At some recent point arch/mips/include/asm/delay.h has started being
included into csrc-octeon.c where the __?delay() functions are defined.
This causes a compile failure due to conflicting declarations and
definitions of the functions.
It turns out that the generic definitions in arch/mips/lib/delay.c also
conflict.
Proposed fix: Declare the functions to take unsigned long parameters
just like asm-generic (and x86) does. Update __delay to agree
(__ndelay and __udelay need no change).
Bonus: Get rid of 'inline' from __delay() definition, as it is globally
visible, and the compiler should be making this decision itself (it does
in fact inline the function without being told to).

There was a serious disconnect in the logic happening in
sparc_pmu_disable_event() vs. sparc_pmu_enable_event().
Event disable is implemented by programming a NOP event into the PCR.
However, event enable was not reversing this operation. Instead, it
was setting the User/Priv/Hypervisor trace enable bits.
That's not sparc_pmu_enable_event()'s job, that's what
sparc_pmu_enable() and sparc_pmu_disable() do .
The intent of sparc_pmu_enable_event() is clear, since it first clear
out the event type encoding field. So fix this by OR'ing in the event
encoding rather than the trace enable bits.

This causes the following:

Intel PEBS in VT-x context uses the DS address as a guest linear
address, even though its programmed by the host as a host linear
address. This either results in guest memory corruption and or the
hardware faulting and 'crashing' the virtual machine. Therefore we have
to disable PEBS on VT-x enter and re-enable on VT-x exit, enforcing a
strict exclude_guest.
This patch enforces exclude_guest kernel side.

When doing a fork (new VM), the new task has a mirror image of the
parent's stack, so keeps the same live register windows etc.
However when doing a clone with CLONE_VM, keeping the same VM
(eg. when creating a new thread), the child starts afresh on a new
stack -- it cannot share any part of the parent stack. It
especially cannot have the same live AR windows as the parent,
otherwise it will overwrite the parent stack on overflow, likely
causing corruption. (and so it did...)
Effectively, the register windows need to be spilled.
Turns out it's much easier to simply not copy parent register
windows when CLONE_VM is set.

The analysis of this is as follows. In init/main.c, we issue:
kernel_thread(kernel_init, NULL, CLONE_FS | CLONE_SIGHAND);
This creates a new thread, which falls through to the ret_from_fork
assembly, with r4 set NULL and r5 set to kernel_init. You can see
this in your oops dump register set - r5 is 0xc0344555, which is the
address of kernel_init plus 1 which marks the function as Thumb code.
Now, let's look at this code a little closer - this is what the
disassembly looks like:
c000d180 <ret_from_fork>:
c000d180: f03a fe08 bl c0047d94 <schedule_tail>

This code was introduced in 9fff2fa0db (arm: switch to saner
kernel_execve() semantics). I have marked one instruction, and it's
the significant one - I'll come back to that later.
Eventually, having had a successful call to kernel_execve(), kernel_init()
returns zero.
In returning, it uses the value in 'lr' which was set by the instruction
I marked above. Unfortunately, this causes lr to contain 0xc000d18e -
an even address. This switches the ISA to ARM on return but with a non
word aligned PC value.
So, what do we end up executing? Well, not the instructions above - yes
the opcodes, but they don't mean the same thing in ARM mode. In ARM mode,
it looks like this instead:
c000d18c: 46e946af strbtmi r4, [r9], pc, lsr #13
c000d190: 3959ea4f ldmdbcc r9, {r0, r1, r2, r3, r6, r9, fp, sp, lr, pc}^
c000d194: 3949ea4f stmdbcc r9, {r0, r1, r2, r3, r6, r9, fp, sp, lr, pc}^
c000d198: bf00e7c8 svclt 0x0000e7c8
c000d19c: 8000f3af andhi pc, r0, pc, lsr #7
c000d1a0: e88db092 stm sp, {r1, r4, r7, ip, sp, pc}
c000d1a4: 46e81fff ; <UNDEFINED> instruction: 0x46e81fff
c000d1a8: 8a00f3ef bhi 0xc004a16c
c000d1ac: 0a0cf08a beq 0xc03493dc
I have included more above, because it's relevant. The PSR flags which
we can see in the oops dump are nZCv, so Z and C are set.
All the above ARM instructions are not executed, except for two.
c000d1a0, which has no writeback, and writes below the current stack
pointer (and that data is lost when we take the next exception.) The
other instruction which is executed is c000d1ac, which takes us to...
0xc03493dc. However, remember that bit 1 of the PC got set. So that
makes the PC value 0xc03493de.
And that value is the value we find in the oops dump for PC. What is
the instruction here when interpreted in ARM mode?
0: f71e150c ; <UNDEFINED> instruction: 0xf71e150c
and there we have our undefined instruction (remember that the 'never'
condition code, 0xf, has been deprecated and is now always executed as
it is now being used for additional instructions.)
This path also nicely explains the state of the stack we see in the oops
dump too.
The above is a consistent and sane story for how we got to the oops
dump, which all stems from the instruction at 0xc000d18a being wrong.

The prima2 platform advertises needing no mach/gpio.h header file,
but its pinctrl driver now has a sirfsoc_gpio_set_pull function
that uses constants defined in arch/arm/mach-prima2/include/mach/gpio.h,
which fails to build.
Fortunately, the sirfsoc_gpio_set_pull is not used anywhere in the
kernel, so we can safely remove it. Any out of tree drivers using
it will have to be converted to use proper pinctrl functions to
do the same.
Without this patch, building prima2_defconfig results in:

$(LINUXINCLUDE) with $(USERINCLUDE) which doesn't contain the necessary

This has the undesirable effect of breaking the EFI boot stub because
the #ifdef CONFIG_EFI_STUB code in arch/x86/boot/tools/build.c is
never compiled.
It should also be noted that because $(USERINCLUDE) isn't exported by

As suggested by Andrew Morton:
This is a pet peeve of mine. Any time there's a long list of items
(header file inclusions, kconfig entries, array initalisers, etc) and
someone wants to add a new item, they *always* go and stick it at the
end of the list.
Guys, don't do this. Either put the new item into a randomly-chosen
position or, probably better, alphanumerically sort the list.
lets sort all our select statements alphanumerically. This commit was
created by the following perl:
while (<>) {
while (/\\\s*$/) {
$_ .= <>;
}
undef %selects if /^\s*config\s+/;
if (/^\s+select\s+(\w+).*/) {
if (defined($selects{$1})) {
if ($selects{$1} eq $_) {
print STDERR "Warning: removing duplicated $1 entry\n";
} else {
print STDERR "Error: $1 differently selected\n".
"\tOld: $selects{$1}\n".
"\tNew: $_\n";
exit 1;
}
}
$selects{$1} = $_;
next;
}
if (%selects and (/^\s*$/ or /^\s+help/ or /^\s+---help---/ or
/^endif/ or /^endchoice/)) {
foreach $k (sort (keys %selects)) {
print "$selects{$k}";
}
undef %selects;
}
print;
}
if (%selects) {
foreach $k (sort (keys %selects)) {
print "$selects{$k}";
}
}
It found two duplicates:
Warning: removing duplicated S5P_SETUP_MIPIPHY entry
Warning: removing duplicated HARDIRQS_SW_RESEND entry
and they are identical duplicates, hence the shrinkage in the diffstat

At that point the rest of kernel_thread/kernel_execve/sys_execve work
can be done independently for different architectures. The only
pending bits that do depend on having all architectures converted are
restrictred to fs/* and kernel/* - that'll obviously have to wait for
the next cycle.

changes."

audit: reverse arguments to audit_inode_child
audit: no need to walk list in audit_inode if name is NULL
audit: pass in dentry to audit_copy_inode wherever possible
audit: remove unnecessary NULL ptr checks from do_path_lookup
getname() is intended to copy pathname strings from userspace into a
kernel buffer. The result is just a string in kernel space. It would
however be quite helpful to be able to attach some ancillary info to
the string.
For instance, we could attach some audit-related info to reduce the
amount of audit-related processing needed. When auditing is enabled,
we could also call getname() on the string more than once and not
need to recopy it from userspace.
This patchset converts the getname()/putname() interfaces to return
a struct instead of a string. For now, the struct just tracks the
string in kernel space and the original userland pointer for it.
Later, we'll add other information to the struct as it becomes
convenient.

Kconfig should have its ret_from_kernel_thread() do this:
call schedule_tail
call the callback left for it by copy_thread(); if it ever

The bug-fixes cover some embarrassing struct pv_cpu_ops variables

missing ones. The other bug-fix is to make the console output (hvc)

its face. Lastly, a quirk for older XenBus implementations that came
with an ancient v3.4 hypervisor (so RHEL5 based) - reading of certain

looks like this:

- Some V4L2 compliance fixes applied on a few drivers;

new board support additions;
Notes:
1) Some Exynos media patches were dependent on some -arm fixes that
got merged on changeset 782cd9e. That's why this pull request is
based that changeset.
2) As promised, I reviewed the pending VB2 DMABUF series.
While setting a test environment, it was noticed that the upstream
support for Samsung Exynos 4 boards (smdk310 and Origen) are
broken upstream, likely due to regressions: both defconfigs are
wrong and regulator settings for both boards are broken. That,
allied with some bug at the dummy regulator driver, causes OOPSes
during boot time.
Long story short: even fixing the above, the proposed patches
OOPSed when running the DMABUF test. Not sure yet if the OOPSes
are due to some other undetected regressions, or due to some bug
on the patches.
Due to the above, DMABUF patches for vb2 got NACKed for 3.7."

Merge tag 'pinctrl-for-3.7-late' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/linusw/linux-pinctrl
Pull second set of pinctrl patches from Linus Walleij:
"Here is a late pinctrl pull request with stuff that wasn't quite
tested at the first pull request.
The main reason to not hold off is that the modifications to
irq_domain_add_simple() as reviewed by Rob Herring introduce new
infrastructure for irqdomains that will be useful for the next cycle:
instead of sprinkling irq descriptor allocation all over the kernel
wherever a "legacy" domain is registered, which is necessary for any
platform using sparse IRQs, and many irq chips are say GPIO
controllers which may be used with several systems, some with sparse
IRQs some not, we push this into the irq_domain_add_simple() so we can
atleast do mistakes in one place.
The irq_domain_add_simple() is currently unused in the kernel, so I
need to provide a user. The Nomadik stuff that goes with are changes
to the driver I use day-to-day to make use of this facility (and a
dependency), so see it as a way to eat my own dogfood: if this blows
up the egg hits my face.

In case we have both NEED_RESCHED and SIGPENDING/NOTIFY_RESUME,
handle the latter first. We'll get to original priorities in
the next commit, but now that allows to simplify the treatment
of NEED_RESCHED-only case nicely. Namely, now there no need to
preserve the data for restarts across the call of schedule() in
$work_resched; we can get there only if we had either returned
from syscall without SIGPENDING (in which case we should've
had no restart-worthy return value and want no restarts) or
already got through do_notify_resume() call (in which case we
want no restarts anymore). So we can just slap 0 into $19
instead of preserving it (and $20).

Change the indicator from 0xffffffff in the "event_id" member to
zero in the "cntr_mask" member. This removes the need to initialize
entries that are unsupported. This also solves a problem where the
number of entries in the table was increased based on a globel enum
used for all platforms, but the new unsupported entries were not added
for mips. This was leaving new table entries of all zeros that we not
marked UNSUPPORTED.

We can save an instruction in the TLB Refill path for kernel mappings
by aligning swapper_pg_dir on a 64K boundary. The address of
swapper_pg_dir can be generated with a single LUI instead of
LUI/{D}ADDUI.
The alignment of __init_end is bumped up to 64K so there are no holes
between it and swapper_pg_dir, which is placed at the very beginning
of .bss.
The alignment of invalid_pmd_table and invalid_pte_table can be
relaxed to PAGE_SIZE. We do this by using __page_aligned_bss, which
has the added benefit of eliminating alignment holes in .bss.

I've maintained this patch, originally from Thiemo Seufer in 2004, for a
really long time, but I think it's time for it to get a look at for
possible inclusion. I have had no problems with it across various SGI
systems over the years.
To quote the post here:
http://www.linux-mips.org/archives/linux-mips/2004-12/msg00000.html
"the atomic functions use so far memory references for the inline
assembler to access the semaphore. This can lead to additional
instructions in the ll/sc loop, because newer compilers don't
expand the memory reference any more but leave it to the assembler.
The appended patch uses registers instead, and makes the ll/sc
arguments more explicit. In some cases it will lead also to better
register scheduling because the register isn't bound to an output
any more."

"The changes for i2c-embedded include:
- massive rework of the omap driver
- massive rework of the at91 driver. In fact, the old driver gets
removed; I am okay with this approach since the old driver was
depending on BROKEN and its limitations made it practically
unusable, so people used bitbanging instead. But even if there are
users, there is no platform_data or module parameter which would
need to be converted. It is just another driver doing I2C
transfers, just way better. Modifications of arch/arm/at91 related
files have proper acks from the maintainer.
- new driver for R-Car I2C
- devicetree and generic_clock conversions and fixes
- usual driver fixes and changes.
The rework patches have come a long way and lots of people have been
involved in creating/testing them. Most patches have been in
linux-next at least since 3.6-rc5. A few have been added in the last
week, I have to admit.
An unexpected (but welcome :)) peak in private life is the cause for
that. The "late" patches shouldn't cause any merge conflicts and I
will have a special eye on them during the stabilization phase. This
is an exception and I want to have the patches in place properly in
time again for the next kernels."

All legacy PWM providers have now been moved to the PWM subsystem. The
plan for 3.8 is to adapt all board files to provide a lookup table for
PWM devices in order to get rid of the global namespace. Subsequently,
users of the legacy pwm_request() and pwm_free() functions can be
migrated to the new pwm_get() and pwm_put() functions. Once this has
been completed, the legacy API and the compatibility code in the core
can be removed.
In addition to the above, these changes also add support for configuring
the polarity of a PWM signal (currently only supported on ECAP and
EHRPWM) and include a much needed rework of the i.MX driver. Managed
functions to obtain and release a PWM device (devm_pwm_get() and
devm_pwm_put()) have been added and the pwm-backlight driver has been
updated to use them. If the PWM subsystem hasn't been enabled, dummy
functions are provided that allow the subsystem to safely compile out.
Some common checks on input parameters have been moved to the core and
removed from the drivers. Finally, a small fix corrects the description
of the PWM specifier's second cell in the device tree representation.

Merge tag 'for-3.7-rc1' of git://gitorious.org/linux-pwm/linux-pwm
Pull pwm changes from Thierry Reding:
"All legacy PWM providers have now been moved to the PWM subsystem.
The plan for 3.8 is to adapt all board files to provide a lookup table
for PWM devices in order to get rid of the global namespace.
Subsequently, users of the legacy pwm_request() and pwm_free()
functions can be migrated to the new pwm_get() and pwm_put()
functions. Once this has been completed, the legacy API and the
compatibility code in the core can be removed.
In addition to the above, these changes also add support for
configuring the polarity of a PWM signal (currently only supported on
ECAP and EHRPWM) and include a much needed rework of the i.MX driver.
Managed functions to obtain and release a PWM device (devm_pwm_get()
and devm_pwm_put()) have been added and the pwm-backlight driver has
been updated to use them. If the PWM subsystem hasn't been enabled,
dummy functions are provided that allow the subsystem to safely
compile out.
Some common checks on input parameters have been moved to the core and
removed from the drivers. Finally, a small fix corrects the
description of the PWM specifier's second cell in the device tree
representation."

Upgrade nomadik pinctrl driver to enable selection of other
alternate-C[1-4] functions on some specific ux500 SoC pins.
Handling of those functions is done thanks to PRCM GPIOCR
registers. This was previously managed in PRCMU driver and
it was not really convenient. Idea is to provide a common
way to control all alternate functions.
Note that this improvement does not support the old-fashioned way
used to control nomadik pins, namely the "nmk_config_pin()" function
and its derivatives.

* Basic writeback support for DISPC level. Writeback is not yet usable, though,
as we need higher level code to actually expose the writeback feature to
userspace.
* Rewriting the omapdss output drivers. We're trying to remove the hard links
between the omapdss and the panels, and this rewrite work moves us closer to
that goal.
* Cleanup and restructuring patches that have been made while working on device

This series a couple bug fixes and a couple fixes that make this
driver support recently added OMAP-based SoCs.
The 'get_cpu_device' patch is needed due to a change in the OMAP
OMAP PM core code which enforces use of get_cpu_device() instead of
a deprecated OMAP-specific API.
The usage of plat/*.h headers breaks single zImage, so platforms are
cleaning up and/or removing plat/*.h so the driver needs to be fixed
accordingly.

On NOMMU ARM, the __addr_ok() and __range_ok() macros do not evaluate
their arguments, which may lead to harmless build warnings in some
code where the variables are not used otherwise. Adding a cast to void
gets rid of the warning and does not make any semantic changes.
Without this patch, building at91x40_defconfig results in:

The Linaro cross toolchain and probably others nowadays default to
building in THUMB2 mode. When building a kernel for a CPU that does
not support THUMB2, the compiler complains about incorrect flags.
We can work around this by setting -marm for all non-T2 builds.
-marm was passed unconditionally for C files previously, but nothing was
passed to the gcc frontend when processing .S files, resulting in a
warning. The assembler never defaults to ARM unless -Wa,-mthumb is
supplied explicitly, so the files were still assembled correctly.
This patch makes sure that -marm is passed for .S files too, and also
avoids the redundant gcc -marm -mthumb in Thumb kernels.
Without this patch, building assabet_defconfig results in:

Let the kernel text section always begin at 1MB. This allows to always have
a large frame in the identity mapping of the kernel image for beginning of
the text section, if the machine has EDAT1 support.
Moving the beginning from 64K to 1MB doesn't cost any memory, since we make
the memory between 64K and 1MB available for the page allocator.

Within the identity mapping the kernel text section is mapped read-only.
However when mapping the first and last page of the text section we must
round upwards and downwards respectively, if only parts of a page belong
to the section.
Otherwise potential rw data can be mapped read-only. So the rounding must
be done just the other way we have it right now.

pmd_huge() will always return 0 on !HUGETLBFS, however we use that helper
function when walking the kernel page tables to decide if we have a
1MB page frame or not.
Since we create 1MB frames for the kernel 1:1 mapping independently of
HUGETLBFS this can lead to incorrect storage accesses since the code
can assume that we have a pointer to a page table instead of a pointer
to a 1MB frame.
Fix this by adding a pmd_large() primitive like other architectures have
it already and remove all references to HUGETLBFS/HUGETLBPAGE from the
code that walks kernel page tables.

while (1) {

and two instances are run. When built for just v7 CPUs, this program
works fine. It uses the "vadd.i64 d19, d18, d16" VFP instruction.
It appears that we do not save the high-16 double VFP registers across
context switches when the kernel is built for v6 CPUs. Fix that.
