guest CPUs are not accessing the key before the switch is complete.
By using the NQ SSKE things are faster especially with multiple guests.

Machine generations up to z9 (released in May 2006) have been officially
out of service for several years now (z9 end of service - January 31, 2019).
No distributions build kernels supporting those old machine generations
anymore, except Debian, which seems to pick the oldest supported
generation. The team supporting Debian on s390 has been notified about
the change.
Raising minimum supported machine generation to z10 helps to reduce
maintenance cost and effectively remove code, which is not getting
enough testing coverage due to lack of older hardware and distributions
support. Besides that this unblocks some optimization opportunities and
allows to use wider instruction set in asm files for future features
implementation. Due to this change spectre mitigation and usercopy
implementations could be drastically simplified and many newer instructions
could be converted from ".insn" encoding to instruction names.

This is more or less a combination of commit 2e77a62cb3 ("arm64:
extable: add a dedicated uaccess handler") and commit 4b5305decc
("x86/extable: Extend extable functionality").
To describe the problem that needs to solved let's cite the full arm64
commit message:
------
For inline assembly, we place exception fixups out-of-line in the
`.fixup` section such that these are out of the way of the fast path.
This has a few drawbacks:
* Since the fixup code is anonymous, backtraces will symbolize fixups
as offsets from the nearest prior symbol, currently
`__entry_tramp_text_end`. This is confusing, and painful to debug
without access to the relevant vmlinux.
* Since the exception handler adjusts the PC to execute the fixup, and
the fixup uses a direct branch back into the function it fixes,
backtraces of fixups miss the original function. This is confusing,
and violates requirements for RELIABLE_STACKTRACE (and therefore
LIVEPATCH).
* Inline assembly and associated fixups are generated from templates,
and we have many copies of logically identical fixups which only
differ in which specific registers are written to and which address
is branched to at the end of the fixup. This is potentially wasteful
of I-cache resources, and makes it hard to add additional logic to
fixups without significant bloat.
This patch address all three concerns for inline uaccess fixups by
adding a dedicated exception handler which updates registers in
exception context and subsequent returns back into the function which
faulted, removing the need for fixups specialized to each faulting
instruction.
Other than backtracing, there should be no functional change as a result
of this patch.

"relative table with data". This allows to get rid of s390 specific
code in sorttable.c.
The main difference to before is that extable entries do not contain a
relative function pointer anymore. Instead data and type fields are
added.
The type field is used to indicate which exception handler needs to be
called, while the data field is currently unused.

always called with physical address of the source.
This confusion led to bugs in copy_oldmem_kernel() and

There is a race on concurrent 2KB-pgtables release paths when
both upper and lower halves of the containing parent page are
freed, one via page_table_free_rcu() + __tlb_remove_table(),
and the other via page_table_free(). The race might lead to a
corruption as result of remove of list item in page_table_free()
concurrently with __free_page() in __tlb_remove_table().
Let's assume first the lower and next the upper 2KB-pgtables are
freed from a page. Since both halves of the page are allocated
the tracking byte (bits 24-31 of the page _refcount) has value
of 0x03 initially:
CPU0 CPU1
---- ----
page_table_free_rcu() // lower half
{
// _refcount[31..24] == 0x03
...
atomic_xor_bits(&page->_refcount,
0x11U << (0 + 24));
// _refcount[31..24] <= 0x12
...
table = table | (1U << 0);
tlb_remove_table(tlb, table);
}
...
__tlb_remove_table()
{
// _refcount[31..24] == 0x12
mask = _table & 3;
// mask <= 0x01
...
page_table_free() // upper half
{
// _refcount[31..24] == 0x12
...
atomic_xor_bits(
&page->_refcount,
1U << (1 + 24));
// _refcount[31..24] <= 0x10
// mask <= 0x10
...
atomic_xor_bits(&page->_refcount,
mask << (4 + 24));
// _refcount[31..24] <= 0x00
// mask <= 0x00
...
if (mask != 0) // == false
break;
fallthrough;
...
if (mask & 3) // == false
...
else
__free_page(page); list_del(&page->lru);
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ RACE! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
} ...
}
The problem is page_table_free() releases the page as result of
lower nibble unset and __tlb_remove_table() observing zero too
early. With this update page_table_free() will use the similar
logic as page_table_free_rcu() + __tlb_remove_table(), and mark
the fragment as pending for removal in the upper nibble until
after the list_del().
In other words, the parent page is considered as unreferenced and
safe to release only when the lower nibble is cleared already and
unsetting a bit in upper nibble results in that nibble turned zero.

Pull exit cleanups from Eric Biederman:
"While looking at some issues related to the exit path in the kernel I
found several instances where the code is not using the existing
abstractions properly.
This set of changes introduces force_fatal_sig a way of sending a
signal and not allowing it to be caught, and corrects the misuse of
the existing abstractions that I found.
A lot of the misuse of the existing abstractions are silly things such
as doing something after calling a no return function, rolling BUG by
hand, doing more work than necessary to terminate a kernel thread, or
calling do_exit(SIGKILL) instead of calling force_sig(SIGKILL).
In the review a deficiency in force_fatal_sig and force_sig_seccomp
where ptrace or sigaction could prevent the delivery of the signal was
found. I have added a change that adds SA_IMMUTABLE to change that
makes it impossible to interrupt the delivery of those signals, and
allows backporting to fix force_sig_seccomp
And Arnd found an issue where a function passed to kthread_run had the
wrong prototype, and after my cleanup was failing to build."

The Breaking-Event-Address-Register (BEAR) stores the address of the
last breaking event instruction. Breaking events are usually instructions
that change the program flow - for example branches, and instructions
that modify the address in the PSW like lpswe. This is useful for debugging
wild branches, because one could easily figure out where the wild branch
was originating from.
What is problematic is that lpswe is considered a breaking event, and
therefore overwrites BEAR on kernel exit. The BEAR enhancement facility
adds new instructions that allow to save/restore BEAR and also an lpswey
instruction that doesn't cause a breaking event. So we can save BEAR on
kernel entry and restore it on exit to user space.

There are multiple things broken about our storage key handling
functions:
1. We should not walk/touch page tables outside of VMA boundaries when
holding only the mmap sem in read mode. Evil user space can modify the
VMA layout just before this function runs and e.g., trigger races with
page table removal code since commit dd2283f260 ("mm: mmap: zap pages
with read mmap_sem in munmap"). gfn_to_hva() will only translate using
KVM memory regions, but won't validate the VMA.
2. We should not allocate page tables outside of VMA boundaries: if
evil user space decides to map hugetlbfs to these ranges, bad things
will happen because we suddenly have PTE or PMD page tables where we
shouldn't have them.
3. We don't handle large PUDs that might suddenly appeared inside our page
table hierarchy.
Don't manually allocate page tables, properly validate that we have VMA and
bail out on pud_large().
All callers of page table handling functions, except
get_guest_storage_key(), call fixup_user_fault() in case they
receive an -EFAULT and retry; this will allocate the necessary page tables
if required.
To keep get_guest_storage_key() working as expected and not requiring
kvm_s390_get_skeys() to call fixup_user_fault() distinguish between
"there is simply no page table or huge page yet and the key is assumed
to be 0" and "this is a fault to be reported".
Although commit 637ff9efe5 ("s390/mm: Add huge pmd storage key handling")
introduced most of the affected code, it was actually already broken
before when using get_locked_pte() without any VMA checks.
Note: Ever since commit 637ff9efe5 ("s390/mm: Add huge pmd storage key
handling") we can no longer set a guest storage key (for example from
QEMU during VM live migration) without actually resolving a fault.
Although we would have created most page tables, we would choke on the
!pmd_present(), requiring a call to fixup_user_fault(). I would
have thought that this is problematic in combination with postcopy life
migration ... but nobody noticed and this patch doesn't change the
situation. So maybe it's just fine.

Further, we should not allocate page tables outside of VMA boundaries: if
evil user space decides to map hugetlbfs to these ranges, bad things will
happen because we suddenly have PTE or PMD page tables where we
shouldn't have them.
Similarly, we have to check if we suddenly find a hugetlbfs VMA, before
calling get_locked_pte().

... otherwise we will try unlocking a spinlock that was never locked via a
garbage pointer.
At the time we reach this code path, we usually successfully looked up
a PGSTE already; however, evil user space could have manipulated the VMA
layout in the meantime and triggered removal of the page table.

VMA layout just before this function runs and e.g., trigger races with
page table removal code since commit dd2283f260 ("mm: mmap: zap pages

Note that gmap_discard() is different:
zap_page_range()->unmap_single_vma() makes sure to stay within VMA
boundaries.

On nds32, openrisc, s390, sh, and xtensa the function die never
returns. Mark die __noreturn so that no one expects die to return.
Remove the do_exit calls after die as they will never be reached.

- Fix topology update on cpu hotplug, so notifiers see expected masks. This bug
was uncovered with SCHED_CORE support.
- Fix stack unwinding so that the correct number of entries are omitted like
expected by common code. This fixes KCSAN selftests.
- Add kmemleak annotation to stack_alloc to avoid false positive kmemleak
warnings.
- Avoid layering violation in common I/O code and don't unregister subchannel
from child-drivers.
- Remove xpram device driver for which no real use case exists since the kernel
is 64 bit only. Also all hypervisors got required support removed in the
meantime, which means the xpram device driver is dead code.
- Fix -ENODEV handling of clp_get_state in our PCI code.
- Enable KFENCE in debug defconfig.
- Cleanup hugetlbfs s390 specific Kconfig dependency.
- Quite a lot of trivial fixes to get rid of "W=1" warnings, and and other
simple cleanups.
