2e1f2d9a9b serial: max310x: implement I2C support
I2C implementation on this chip has a few key differences
compared to SPI, as described in previous patches.
 * extended register space access needs no extra logic
 * slave address is used to select which UART to communicate
   with

To accommodate these differences, add an I2C interface config,
set the RevID register address and implement an empty method
for setting the GlobalCommand register, since no special handling
is needed for the extended register space.

To handle the port-specific slave address, create an I2C dummy
device for each port, except the base one (UART0), which is
expected to be the one specified in firmware, and create a
regmap for each I2C device.
Add minimum and maximum slave addresses to each devtype for
sanity checking.

Also, use a separate regmap config with no write_flag_mask,
since I2C has a R/W bit in its slave address, and set the
max register to the address of the RevID register, since the
extended register space needs no extra logic.

Finally, add the I2C driver.

b3883ab5e9 serial: max310x: make accessing revision id interface-agnostic
SPI can only use 5 address bits, since one bit is reserved for
specifying R/W and 2 bits are used to specify the UART port.
To access registers that have addresses past 0x1F, an extended
register space can be enabled by writing to the GlobalCommand
register (address 0x1F).

I2C uses 8 address bits. The R/W bit is placed in the slave
address, and so is the UART port. Because of this, registers
that have addresses higher than 0x1F can be accessed normally.

To access the RevID register, on SPI, 0xCE must be written to
the 0x1F address to enable the extended register space, after
which the RevID register is accessible at address 0x5. 0xCD
must be written to the 0x1F address to disable the extended
register space.

On I2C, the RevID register is accessible at address 0x25.

Create an interface config struct, and add a method for
toggling the extended register space and a member for the RevId
register address. Implement these for SPI.

6ef281daf0 serial: max310x: use a separate regmap for each port
The driver currently does manual register manipulation in
multiple places to talk to a specific UART port.

In order to talk to a specific UART port over SPI, the bits U1
and U0 of the register address can be set, as explained in the
Command byte configuration section of the datasheet.

Make this more elegant by creating regmaps for each UART port
and setting the read_flag_mask and write_flag_mask
accordingly.

All communcations regarding global registers are done on UART
port 0, so replace the global regmap entirely with the port 0
regmap.

Also, remove the 0x1f masks from reg_writeable(), reg_volatile()
and reg_precious() methods, since setting the U1 and U0 bits of
the register address happens inside the regmap core now.

e767aa14f7 serial: max310: remove redundant memset in rs485_config
In uart_set_rs485_config() the serial core already nullifies the padding
field of the passed serial_rs485 struct before returning it to userspace.

Doing the same in the drivers rs485_config() function is redundant, so
remove the concerning memset in this function.

spi: make remove callback a void function
The value returned by an spi driver's remove function is mostly ignored.
(Only an error message is printed if the value is non-zero that the
error is ignored.)

So change the prototype of the remove function to return no value. This
way driver authors are not tempted to assume that passing an error to
the upper layer is a good idea. All drivers are adapted accordingly.
There is no intended change of behaviour, all callbacks were prepared to
return 0 before.

Up to now max310x_remove() returns zero unconditionally. Make it return
void instead which makes it easier to see in the callers that there is
no error to handle.

3d1fa055ea serial: max310x: Use clock-names property matching to recognize EXTCLK
Dennis reported that on ACPI-based systems the clock frequency
isn't enough to configure device properly. We have to respect
the clock source as well. To achieve this match the clock-names
property against "osc" to recognize external clock connection.
On DT-based system this doesn't change anything.

3890e3dea3 serial: max310x: unregister uart driver in case of failure and abort
The macro "spi_register_driver" invokes the function
"__spi_register_driver()" which has a return type of int and can fail,
returning a negative value in such a case. This is currently ignored and
the init() function yields success even if the spi driver failed to
register.

Fix this by collecting the return value of "__spi_register_driver()" and
also unregister the uart driver in case of failure.

b0a85abbe9 Revert "serial: max310x: pass return value of spi_register_driver"
This reverts commit 51f689cc11.

Because of recent interactions with developers from @umn.edu, all
commits from them have been recently re-reviewed to ensure if they were
correct or not.

Upon review, this commit was found to be incorrect for the reasons
below, so it must be reverted.  It will be fixed up "correctly" in a
later kernel change.

This change did not properly unwind from the error condition, so it was
not correct.

2334de198f Revert "serial: max310x: rework RX interrupt handling"
This reverts commit fce3c5c1a2.

FIFO is triggered 4 intervals after receiving a byte, it's good
when we don't care about the time of reception, but are only
interested in the presence of any activity on the line.
Unfortunately, this method is not suitable for all tasks,
for example, the RS-485 protocol will not work properly,
since the state machine must track the request-response time
and after the timeout expires, a decision is made that the device
on the line is not responding.

fce3c5c1a2 serial: max310x: rework RX interrupt handling
Currently, the RX interrupt logic uses the RXEMPTY interrupt, with the
RXEMPTYINV bit set, which means we get an RX interrupt as soon as the
RX FIFO is non-empty.

However, with the MAX310X having a FIFO of 128 bytes, this makes very
poor use of the FIFO: we trigger an interrupt as soon as the RX FIFO
has one byte, which means a lot of interrupts, each only collecting a
few bytes from the FIFO, causing a significant CPU load.

Instead this commit relies on two other RX interrupt events:

 - MAX310X_IRQ_RXFIFO_BIT, which triggers when the RX FIFO has reached
   a certain threshold, which we define to be half of the FIFO
   size. This ensure we get an interrupt before the RX FIFO fills up.

 - MAX310X_LSR_RXTO_BIT, which triggers when the RX FIFO has received
   some bytes, and then no more bytes are received for a certain
   time. Arbitrarily, this time is defined to the time is takes to
   receive 4 characters.

On a Microchip SAMA5D3 platform that is receiving 20 bytes every 16ms
over one MAX310X UART, this patch has allowed to reduce the CPU
consumption of the interrupt handler thread from ~25% to 6-7%.

5a8c296f53 serial: max310x: Properly set flags in AutoCTS mode
Commit 391f93f2ec ("serial: core: Rework hw-assisted flow control
support") has changed the way the AutoCTS mode is handled.

According to that change, serial drivers which enable H/W AutoCTS mode must
set UPSTAT_AUTORTS, UPSTAT_AUTOCTS and UPSTAT_AUTOXOFF to prevent the
serial core from inadvertently disabling RX or TX. This patch adds proper
handling of UPSTAT_AUTORTS, UPSTAT_AUTOCTS and UPSTAT_AUTOXOFF flags.

8016c3da0c tty: max310x: fix off-by-one buffer access when storing overrun
A recent change split the insertion loop into two parts. The first part
accessed bytes 0, 1, ... (rxlen - 2), and the second part by mistake
took offset `rxlen` instead of the correct `rxlen - 1`. So one byte was
not stored, and the final access wrote past the end of the rx_buf.

5d24f455c1 tty: max310x: Fix external crystal register setup
The datasheet states:

  Bit 4: ClockEnSet the ClockEn bit high to enable an external clocking
(crystal or clock generator at XIN). Set the ClockEn bit to 0 to disable
clocking
  Bit 1: CrystalEnSet the CrystalEn bit high to enable the crystal
oscillator. When using an external clock source at XIN, CrystalEn must
be set low.

The bit 4, MAX310X_CLKSRC_EXTCLK_BIT, should be set and was not.

This was required to make the MAX3107 with an external crystal on our
board able to send or receive data.

9c12d739d6 tty: max310x: Split uart characters insertion loop
Batch read mode doesn't check any conditions or flags except the Rx
overflow one. But it may only happen after the last character is pushed
into the RHR register. In this case we shouldn't push all the read
characters with overrun flag set, but only the last one caused the
FIFO overflow. This commit splits the characters retrieval loop into
two parts. First one is ordinary intsert-chars procedure without taking
the overrun status into account. Second part inserts the last character
checking whether the overrun happened and pushing a '\0' character with
TTY_OVERRUN flag to a flip-buffer.

If we left the loop the way it was the '\0' character would be inserted
after each character retrieved at the overrun occasion.

The driver currently sets the echo suppression bit by default when rs485
is enabled. Naturally it disables any data retrieval in rs485 mode while
RTSn is pushed up. The receiver gate (RX_) can be enabled just by clearing
(or not setting) the EchoSuprs bit of mode2 register. So by setting or
clearing the bit we implement the SER_RS485_RX_DURING_TX rs485 flag
support.

35240ba26a tty: max310x: Fix invalid baudrate divisors calculator
Current calculator doesn't do it' job quite correct. First of all the
max310x baud-rates generator supports the divisor being less than 16.
In this case the x2/x4 modes can be used to double or quadruple
the reference frequency. But the current baud-rate setter function
just filters all these modes out by the first condition and setups
these modes only if there is a clocks-baud division remainder. The former
doesn't seem right at all, since enabling the x2/x4 modes causes the line
noise tolerance reduction and should be only used as a last resort to
enable a requested too high baud-rate.

Finally the fraction is supposed to be calculated from D = Fref/(c*baud)
formulae, but not from D % 16, which causes the precision loss. So to speak
the current baud-rate calculator code works well only if the baud perfectly
fits to the uart reference input frequency.

Lets fix the calculator by implementing the algo fully compliant with
the fractional baud-rate generator described in the datasheet:
D = Fref / (c*baud), where c={16,8,4} is the x1/x2/x4 rate mode
respectively, Fref - reference input frequency. The divisor fraction is
calculated from the same formulae, but making sure it is found with a
resolution of 0.0625 (four bits).

b7382c73b2 tty: max310x: Don't pass stacked buffers to SPI
SPI transfer tx/rx buffers must be DMA-safe and the structure
documentation clearly states this. Data declared on the system stack isn't
DMA-safe [1]. Instead at least kernel memory should be used for the
buffers. In order to fix this here we can create the buffers at the device
probing stage and use them without any synchronization, since batch
read/write methods are called from non-reentrant contexts - either from
rx-event IRQ threaded handler or from the tx workqueue item.

uart_port structure instance is embedded into the max310x_one
super-structure, which is accessed by some of the uart-port callback
methods. In order to improve the callback's code readability lets
define the to_max310x_port() wrapper which just translates the passed

handy in future commits.

2987590b78 tty: max310x: Simplify tx-work item code
Since cmwq introduction in the kernel, workqueues've been turned into
non-reentrant execution contexts [1]. It means any work item is
guaranteed to be executed by at most one worker system-wide at any
given time. Since tx-handler max310x_handle_tx() is called by a
single work item we don't need it to be self-protected by the mutex.
We also don't need to check the tx work item pending state before
scheduling it (which in the first place was racy btw), since cmwq will
make sure to reschedule the item if it wasn't pending at the moment of
schedule_work() call.

One of the more common cases of allocation size calculations is finding
the size of a structure that has a zero-sized array at the end, along
with memory for some number of elements for that array. For example:

Instead of leaving these open-coded and prone to type mistakes, we can
now use the new struct_size() helper:

This code was detected with the help of Coccinelle.

4cf9a888fd serial: max310x: Check the clock readiness
This chip has a diagnostics status bit informing about the state and
stability of the clock subsystem. According to the datasheet (STSint
register, bit 5, ClockReady), this bit works with the crystal
oscillator, but even without the PLL. Therefore:

- ensure that the clock check is done even when PLL is not active
- warn when the chip thinks that the clock is not ready yet

There are HW features which would let us wait asynchronously (there's a
maskable IRQ for that bit), but I think that even this simple check is a
net improvement. It would have saved me two days of debugging :).

Some debugging tools (/sys/kernel/debug/gpio, `lsgpio`) use the
gpio_chip's label for displaying an additional context. Right now, the
information duplicates stuff which is already available from the
parent's device. This is how e.g. `lsgpio`'s output looks like:

e397824bf0 gpio: serial: max310x: Support open-drain configuration for GPIOs
The push-pull vs. open-drain are the only supported output modes. The
inputs are always unconditionally equipped with weak pull-downs. That's
the only mode, so there's probably no point in exporting that. I wonder
if it's worthwhile to provide a custom dbg_show method to indicate the
current status of the outputs, though.

This patch and [1] for i2c-gpio together make it possible to bit-bang an
I2C bus over GPIOs of an UART which is connected via SPI :). Yes, this
is crazy, but it's fast enough (while on a 26Mhz SPI HW bus with a
dual-core 1.6GHz CPU) to drive an I2C bus at 200kHz, according to my
scope.

2258761213 serial: max310x: Reduce RX work starvation
Prior to this patch, the code would happily trigger TX on some ports
before having a chance of reading the RX buffer from the rest of them.
When no flow control was used, this led to RX buffer overruns and
therefore lost data under certain circumstances.

I was able to reproduce this with MAX14830 (that's a quad channel one)
and a simple daisy-chain of RX and TX ports on the eval board:

- TX0 -> RX1
- TX1 -> RX2
- TX2 -> RX3
- TX3 -> RX0

I was testing this by transferring 2MB of data at 115200 baud via each
port. I used a Solidrun Clearfog Base (Armada 388) which was talking to
the UART over an SPI bus clocked at 26MHz (the chip's maximum). Without
this patch, I would always get a "Possible RX FIFO overrun" in dmesg,
and fewer-than-expected amount of bytes received over ttyMAX0. Results
on ttyMAX{1,2,3} tended to be correct all the time, even without the
previous patches in this series and with PIO SPI transfers ("indirect
mode" as the Marvell datasheet calls it), so I assume that heavy
congestion is needed in order to reproduce this.

A drawback of this patch is that the throughput gets reduced "a bit".
Previously, a 115200 baud resulted in about 11.2kBps throughput as
reported by a simple `pv`. With this patch, the throughput of four
parallel streams is roughly 7kBps each, and 9kBps for three streams.
There is no slowdown for one or two parallel streams.

Situation is worse if bytes are being read one-by-one (such as if the
userspace wants to perform parity/framing/break checking) and therefore
without the batched reads.

With just this patch and no other modifications on top of 4.14, I was
only getting roughly 3.6kBps with four parallel streams. The
single-stream performance was the same, and I was seeing about 7.2kBps
with two parallel streams. `perf top` said that a substantial amount of
time was spent in `finish_task_switch`, `_raw_spin_unlock_irqrestore`
and `__timer_delay`.

2b4bac48c1 serial: max310x: Use batched reads when reasonably safe
The hardware has a 128 byte RX FIFO buffer for each independent UART.
Previously, the code was always reading that byte-by-byte via
independent SPI transactions and the associated overhead. In practice,
this led to up to eight bytes over SPI for just one byte in the UART's
RX FIFO:

- reading the global IRQ register (two bytes, one for command, the other
for data)
- reading one UART's ISR (again two bytes)
- reading the byte count (two bytes yet again)
- finally, reading one byte of the FIFO via another two-byte transaction

We cannot always use a batched read. If the TTY is set to intercept
break conditions or report framing or parity errors, then it is required
to check the Line Status Register (LSR) for each byte which is read from
the RX FIFO. The documentation does not show a way of doing that in a
single SPI transaction; registers 0x00 and 0x04 are separate.

In my testing, this is no silver bullet. I was feeding 2MB of random
data over four daisy-chaned UARTs of MAX14830, and this is the
distribution that I was getting:

- R <= 1: 7437322
- R <= 2: 162093
- R <= 4: 4093
- R <= 8: 4196
- R <= 16: 645
- R <= 32: 165
- R <= 64: 58
- R <= 128: 0

For a reference, batching the write operations works much better:

- W <= 1: 2664
- W <= 2: 1305
- W <= 4: 627
- W <= 8: 371
- W <= 16: 121
- W <= 32: 68
- W <= 64: 33
- W <= 128: 63139

That's probably because this HW/SW combination (Clearfog Base, Armada
388) is probably "good enough" to react to the chip's IRQ "fast enough"
most of the time. Still, I was getting RX overruns every now and then.
In future, I plan to improve this by letting the RX FIFO be filled a
little more (the chip has support for that and also for a "stale
timeout" to prevent additional starvation).

d584b65c0d serial: max310x: use a batch write op for UART transmit
The transmit register supports batched writes. The key is simply to keep
sending additional bytes up to the FIFO size in the same SPI
transaction with the CS pin still being held low.

This duplicates the regmap infrastructure to a certain extent. There are
some provisions for multiple writes in there, but there does not appear
to be any support for those writes which are destined to the *same*
register (and also no standard for SPI bus transfers of these, anyway).

This patch does not solve every case (if the UART xmit circular buffer
wraps around, we're still doing two SPI transactions), but at least
it's not one-byte-per-transaction anymore.

This change does not touch the receive path at this time. Doing that in
the generic case appears to be impossible in the general case, because
the chips' status register contains data about the *current* byte in the
HW's Rx FIFO. We cannot read these two registers in one go,
unfortunately.

According to my chip's datasheet [1], the IRQ output is an open
collector pin which is suitable for sharing with other chips. The chip
also has a register which indicates which UART performed a change and
the driver checks that register already, so we have everything what is
needed to effectively share the IRQ GPIO.

bceb483972 serial: max310x: Do not hard-code the IRQ type
As suggested by Russell King, a driver should not really care about bits
such as the interrupt polarity or whether it is edge- or level-
triggered. The reasons for that include:

- an upstream IRQ controller which cannot support edge- or
level-triggered interrupts,
- board design with a built-in inverter

The interrupt type is being already specified by the Device Tree,
anyway. Other drivers (gpio/gpio-tc3589x.c for example) already work in
this way, delegating the proper IRQ line setup to the DT and not
specifying anything by hand.

Also, there's no reason to have the IRQ flags split between two places.
The SPI probing is the only entry point anyway.

This can be easily fixed by moving the corresponding code below. And
because the UARTs are already there by the time we reach this point, the
`goto` needs changing so that more stuff is freed. (I have not tested
