In many cases, I need to look at differences between two data so I often
used the -o option to sort the result base on the difference first.
It'd be nice to have a config option to set it by default.
The diff.order config option is to set the default value of -o/--order
option.

Commit 21e6d84286 ("perf diff: Use perf_hpp__register_sort_field
interface") changed list_add() to perf_hpp__register_sort_field().
This resulted in a behavior change since the field was added to the tail
instead of the head. So the -o option is mostly ignored due to its
order in the list.
This patch fixes it by adding perf_hpp__prepend_sort_field().

Add span argument for header callback function.
The handling of this argument is completely in the hands of the
callback. The only thing the caller ensures is it's zeroed on the
beginning.
Omitting span skipping in hierarchy headers and gtk code.
The c2c code use this to span header lines based on the entries span
configuration.

Before this patch each subcommand calls perf_config() by themself,
reading the default configuration together with subcommand specific
options. If a subcommand doesn't have it own options, it needs to call
'perf_config(perf_default_config, NULL)' to ensure .perfconfig is
loaded.
This patch brings perf_config(perf_default_config, NULL) to the very
start of main(), so subcommands don't need to do it.
After this patch, 'llvm.clang-path' works for 'perf trace'.

In addition to using refcounts for the struct thread lifetime
management, we need to protect access to machine->threads from
concurrent access.
That happens in 'perf top', where a thread processes events, inserting
and deleting entries from that rb_tree while another thread decays
hist_entries, that end up dropping references and ultimately deleting
threads from the rb_tree and releasing its resources when no further
hist_entry (or other data structures, like in 'perf sched') references
it.
So the rule is the same for refcounts + protected trees in the kernel,
get the tree lock, find object, bump the refcount, drop the tree lock,
return, use object, drop the refcount if no more use of it is needed,
keep it if storing it in some other data structure, drop when releasing
that data structure.
I.e. pair "t = machine__find(new)_thread()" with a "thread__put(t)", and
"perf_event__preprocess_sample(&al)" with "addr_location__put(&al)".
The addr_location__put() one is because as we return references to
several data structures, we may end up adding more reference counting
for the other data structures and then we'll drop it at
addr_location__put() time.

The prior change fixes default output ordering with each column but it
breaks -o/--order option. This patch prepends a new hpp fmt struct to
sort list but not to output field list so that it can affect ordering
without adding a new output column.
The new hpp fmt uses its own compare functions which treats dummy
entries (which have no baseline) little differently - the delta field
can be computed without baseline but others (ratio and wdiff) are not.
The new output will look like below:

result (less than 0.01%) and print "N/A" if baseline is not

Currently vmlinux_path__init() only tries to find vmlinux file from
current directory, /boot and some canonical directories with version
number of the running kernel. This can be a problem when reporting old
data recorded on a kernel version not running currently.
We can use --symfs option for this but it's annoying for user to do it
always. As we already have the info in the perf.data file, it can be
changed to use it for the search automatically.
Before:
$ perf report
...
# Samples: 4K of event 'cpu-clock'
# Event count (approx.): 1067250000
#
# Overhead Command Shared Object Symbol
# ........ .......... ................. ..............................
71.87% swapper [kernel.kallsyms] [k] recover_probed_instruction
After:
# Overhead Command Shared Object Symbol
# ........ .......... ................. ....................
71.87% swapper [kernel.kallsyms] [k] native_safe_halt
This requires to change signature of symbol__init() to receive struct
perf_session_env *.

Currently, accounting each sample is done in multiple places - once
when adding them to the input tree, other when adding them to the
output tree. It's not only confusing but also can cause a subtle
problem since concurrent processing like in perf top might see the
updated stats before adding entries into the output tree - like seeing
more (blank) lines at the end and/or slight inaccurate percentage.
To fix this, only account the entries when it's moved into the output
tree so that they cannot be seen prematurely. There're some
exceptional cases here and there - they should be addressed separately
with comments.

so the -x/--exclude-other has nothing to do.
Also we have no way to see the data with symbol_conf.exclude_other being
false which is useful sometimes.
Fixing it by making symbol_conf.exclude_other false by default.
1) Example without -x option:
$ perf report -i perf.data.delete -p perf_session__delete -s parent
+ 99.91% [other]
+ 0.08% perf_session__delete
+ 0.00% perf_session__delete_dead_threads
+ 0.00% perf_session__delete_threads
2) Example with -x option:
$ ./perf report -i perf.data.delete -p perf_session__delete -s parent -x
+ 96.22% perf_session__delete
+ 1.89% perf_session__delete_dead_threads
+ 1.89% perf_session__delete_threads
In Example 1) we get the sorted out data together with the rest
"[other]". This could help us estimate how much time we spent in the
sorted data.
In Example 2) the total is just the sorted data.

perf record has a new option -W that enables weightened sampling.
Add sorting support in top/report for the average weight per sample and the
total weight sum. This allows to both compare relative cost per event
and the total cost over the measurement period.
Add the necessary glue to perf report, record and the library.
v2: Merge with new hist refactoring.
v3: Fix manpage. Remove value check.
Rename global_weight to weight and weight to local_weight.
v4: Readd sort keys to manpage
v5: Move weight to end
v6: Move weight to template
v7: Rename weight key.
Original patch from Andi modified by Stephane Eranian <eranian@google.com>
to include ONLY the weight supporting code and apply to pristine 3.8.0-rc4.

Currently the setup_sorting() is called for parsing sort keys and exits
if it failed to add the sort key. As it's included in libperf it'd be
better returning an error code rather than exiting application inside of
the library.

For matching and/or linking hist entries, they need to be sorted by
given sort keys. However current hists__match/link did this on the
output trees, so that the entries in the output tree need to be resort
before doing it.
This looks not so good since we have trees for collecting or collapsing
entries before passing them to an output tree and they're already sorted
by the given sort keys. Since we don't need to print anything at the
time of matching/linking, we can use these internal trees directly
instead of bothering with double resort on the output tree.
Its only user - at the time of this writing - perf diff can be easily
converted to use the internal tree and can save some lines too by
getting rid of unnecessary resorting codes.

When comparing entries for collapsing put the given entry first, and
then the iterated entry. This is not the case of hist_entry__cmp() when
called if given sort keys don't require collapsing. So change the order
for the sake of consistency. It will be required for matching and/or
linking multiple hist entries.

It seems not very useful, because it's possible and event more convenient to

And above all it complicates hist code factoring ;)

We want to match more than two hists, so that we can match more than two
perf.data files and moreover, match hist_entries (buckets) in multiple
events in a group.
So the "baseline"/"leader" will instead of a ->pair pointer, use a
list_head, that will link to the pairs and hists__match use it.
Following that perf_evlist__link will link the hists in its evsel
groups.

When we were processing a PERF_RECORD_EXIT event we first used
machine__findnew_thread for both the thread exiting and for its parent,
only to use just the thread struct associated with the one exiting, and
to just delete it.
If it existed, i.e. not created at this very moment in
machine__findnew_thread, it will be moved to the machine->dead_threads
linked list, because we may have hist_entries pointing to it, but if it
was created just do be deleted, it will just sit there with no
references at all.
Use the new machine__find_thread() method so that if it is not there, we
don't create it.
As a bonus the parent thread will also not be created at this point.
Create process_fork() and process_exit() helpers to use this and make
the builtins use it instead of the generic process_task(), ditched by
this patch.

perf defines both __used and __unused variables to use for marking
unused variables. The variable __used is defined to
__attribute__((__unused__)), which contradicts the kernel definition to
__attribute__((__used__)) for new gcc versions. On Android, __used is
also defined in system headers and this leads to warnings like: warning:
'__used__' attribute ignored
__unused is not defined in the kernel and is not a standard definition.
If __unused is included everywhere instead of __used, this leads to
conflicts with glibc headers, since glibc has a variables with this name
in its headers.
The best approach is to use __maybe_unused, the definition used in the
kernel for __attribute__((unused)). In this way there is only one
definition in perf sources (instead of 2 definitions that point to the
same thing: __used and __unused) and it works on both Linux and Android.
This patch simply replaces all instances of __used and __unused with
__maybe_unused.

Current hist print functions are messy because it has to consider many
of command line options and the code doing that is scattered around to
places. So when someone wants to add an option to manipulate the hist
output it'd very easy to miss to update all of them in sync. And things
getting worse as more options/features are added continuously.
So I'd like to refactor them using hpp formats and move common code to
ui/hist.c in order to make it easy to maintain and to add new features.

perf hists: Threaded addition and sorting of entries
commit 1980c2ebd7
Several places were broken:
- hists data need to be collected into opened sessions instead
of into events
- session's hists data need to be initialized properly when the
session is created
- hist_entry__pcnt_snprintf: the percentage and displacement
buffer preparation must not use 'ret' because it's used
