There are a number of bugs here:
1) If "count" is less than sizeof(dump_data.data) then it copies
uninitialized data.
2) If simple_write_to_buffer() returns -EFAULT then we run into a
problem "ret < count" comparison. "count" is an unsigned long so the
comparison is type promoted to unsigned long and the negative returns
become high positive values. That also results in copying
uninitialized data.
3) If "*ppos" is non-zero then the first part of the dump_data
buffer is uninitialized. Using copy_from_user() instead of
simple_write_to_buffer() is more appropriate here.

We can never assume the uart will deliver a complete packet to the BT
layer at once, the expected packet may be divided into several parts by
uart as uart doesn't know the received packet size, the received data
count may mismatch with the expected packet size, so here
is_valid_bootloader_signature() check may always return false.
Even we remove the count check in is_valid_bootloader_signature(), then
the first part of the data which includes the packet type can pass the
is_valid_bootloader_signature() check, but the remaining parts don't
have the packet type data still cannot pass the check, here return
directly will cause the data loss.
So need to remove the received bootloader signature check here, the
h4_recv_buf() can help us combine the different data received into one
packet. If any out-of-sync or incomplete bootloader signature is received,
it is safe to ignore and discard it, and process the next bootloader
signature.

This adds support to download helper FW file for the legacy NXP chipset
88w8997 for the btnxpuart driver. This helper FW file is necessary to
set the bootloader baudrate to 3000000 after which the actual BT FW file
can be downloaded. This change helps bring the FW download time from
around 10 sec to less than 2 sec for 88w8997 chip. For newer chipsets,

bootloader, and does not need a helper FW file.

The bcm43430a0 and bcm43430a1 BT does not support the 0xfc45 command
to set the UART clock to 48 MHz and it also does not work at 4000000
baud without this command as some newer models do.
These chips are found on ACPI/x86 devices where the operating baudrate
does not come from the firmware but is hardcoded at 4000000, which does
not work.
Add a max_baudrate value to struct bcm_device_data and set this

On some devices the BCM Bluetooth adapter does not have a valid bdaddr set.
btbcm.c currently sets HCI_QUIRK_INVALID_BDADDR to indicate when this is
the case. But this requires users to manual setup a btaddr, by doing e.g.:
btmgmt -i hci0 public-addr 'B0:F1:EC:82:1D:B3'
Which means that Bluetooth will not work out of the box on such devices.
To avoid this (where possible) hci_bcm sets: HCI_QUIRK_USE_BDADDR_PROPERTY
which tries to get the bdaddr from devicetree.
But this only works on devicetree platforms. On UEFI based platforms
there is a special Broadcom UEFI variable which when present contains
the devices bdaddr, just like how there is another UEFI variable which
contains wifi nvram contents including the wifi MAC address.
Add support for getting the bdaddr from this Broadcom UEFI variable,
so that Bluetooth will work OOTB for users on devices where this
UEFI variable is present.
This fixes Bluetooth not working on for example Asus T100HA 2-in-1s.

As shown in the schematic diagram below.There may be a critical
scenario in the current code. If the device does not receive an
pure ack sent by the host due to insufficient receive buffer or
other reasons and triggers a retransmission, the host will always
be in an 'out-of-order' state.The state machine will get stuck.
host device
SEQ3,ACK4 --------->
<--------- SEQ4,ACK4
pure ACK ---------> (not received)
(out-of-order) <--------- SEQ4,ACK4(retransmission)
........
(out-of-order) <--------- SEQ4,ACK4(retransmission)
According to the description in the core specification: "whenever
a reliable packet is received, an acknowledgment shall be generated."
So set H5_TX_ACK_REQ bit to trigger retransmission of pure ack packet
when "out-of-order" occurs.

On most devices using the btqcomsmd driver (e.g. the DragonBoard 410c
and other devices based on the Qualcomm MSM8916/MSM8909/... SoCs)
the Bluetooth firmware seems to become unresponsive for a while after
setting the BD address. On recent kernel versions (at least 5.17+)
this often causes timeouts for subsequent commands, e.g. the HCI reset
sent by the Bluetooth core during initialization:
Bluetooth: hci0: Opcode 0x c03 failed: -110
Unfortunately this behavior does not seem to be documented anywhere.
Experimentation suggests that the minimum necessary delay to avoid
the problem is ~150us. However, to be sure add a sleep for > 1ms
in case it is a bit longer on other firmware versions.
Older kernel versions are likely also affected, although perhaps with
slightly different errors or less probability. Side effects can easily
hide the issue in most cases, e.g. unrelated incoming interrupts that
cause the necessary delay.

Due to several bugs caused by timers being re-armed after they are
shutdown and just before they are freed, a new state of timers was added
called "shutdown". After a timer is set to this state, then it can no
longer be re-armed.
The following script was run to find all the trivial locations where
del_timer() or del_timer_sync() is called in the same function that the
object holding the timer is freed. It also ignores any locations where
the timer->function is modified between the del_timer*() and the free(),
as that is not considered a "trivial" case.
This was created by using a coccinelle script and the following
commands:
$ cat timer.cocci
@@
expression ptr, slab;
identifier timer, rfield;
@@
(
- del_timer(&ptr->timer);
+ timer_shutdown(&ptr->timer);
|
- del_timer_sync(&ptr->timer);
+ timer_shutdown_sync(&ptr->timer);
)
... when strict
when != ptr->timer
(
kfree_rcu(ptr, rfield);
|
kmem_cache_free(slab, ptr);
|
kfree(ptr);
)
$ spatch timer.cocci . > /tmp/t.patch

CYW4373A0 is a Wi-Fi + Bluetooth combo device from Cypress.
This chip is present e.g. on muRata 2AE module.
This chip has additional quirk where the HCI command 0xfc45, used on
older chips to switch UART clock from 24 MHz to 48 MHz, to support
baudrates over 3 Mbdps, is no longer recognized by this newer chip.
This newer chip can configure the 4 Mbdps baudrate without the need
to issue HCI command 0xfc45, so add flag to indicate this and do not
issue the command on this chip to avoid failure to set 4 Mbdps baud
rate.
It is not clear whether there is a way to determine which chip does
and which chip does not support the HCI command 0xfc45, other than
trial and error.

Device removal is clearly out of virtio spec: it attempts to remove
unused buffers from a VQ before invoking device reset. To fix, make
open/close NOPs and do all cleanup/setup in probe/remove.
NB: This is a hacky way to handle this - virtbt_{open,close} as NOP is
not really what a driver is supposed to be doing. These are transport
enable/disable callbacks from the BT core towards the driver. It maps to
a device being enabled/disabled by something like bluetoothd for
example. So if disabled, users expect that no resources/queues are in
use. It does work with all other transports like USB, SDIO, UART etc.
There should be no buffer used if the device is powered off. We also
don’t have any USB URBs in-flight if the transport is not active.
The way to implement a proper fix would be using vq reset if supported,
or even using a full device reset.
The cost of the hack is a single skb wasted on an unused bt device.
NB2: with this fix in place driver still suffers from a race condition
if an interrupt triggers while device is being reset. To fix, in the
virtbt_close() callback we should deactivate all interrupts. To be
fixed.

The USB interface between the host and the bluetooth adapter used for
SCO packets uses an USB isochronous endpoint with a fragmentation scheme
that does not tolerate errors. Except USB isochronous transfers do
not provide a reliable stream with guaranteed delivery. (There is no
retry on error, see USB spec v2.0 5.6 and 8.5.5.)
To fragment a packet, the bluetooth HCI simply splits it in parts and
transfer them as-is. The receiver is expected to reconstruct the packet
by assuming the first fragment contains the header and parsing its size
field. There is no error detection either.
If a fragment is lost, the end result is that the kernel is no longer
synchronized and will pass malformed data to the upper layers, since it
has no way to tell if the first fragment is an actual first fragment or
a continuation fragment. Resynchronization can only happen by luck and
requires an unbounded amount of time.
The typical symptom for a HSP/HFP bluetooth headset is that the
microphone stops working and dmesg contains piles of rate-limited
"Bluetooth: hci0: SCO packet for unknown connection handle XXXX"
errors for an indeterminate amount of time, until the kernel accidentally
resynchronize.
A workaround is to ask the upper layer to prevalidate the first fragment
header. This is not possible with user channels so this workaround is
disabled in this case.
This problem is the most severe when using an ath3k adapter on an i.MX 6
board, where packet loss occur regularly, possibly because it is an USB1
device connected on an USB2 hub and this is a special case requiring
split transactions.

Tearing down timers can be tedious when there are circular

example is timer and workqueue where the timer schedules work and the
work arms the timer.

The rationale of showing this is that it's potentially critical
information to diagnose and find more CSR compatibility bugs in the
future and it will save a lot of headaches.
Given that clones come from a wide array of vendors (some are actually
Barrot, some are something else) and these numbers are what let us find
differences between actual and fake ones, it will be immensely helpful
to scour the Internet looking for this pattern and building an actual
database to find correlations and improve the checks.

It wasn't, and it broke everything again:

He argues that the quirk is not necessary because the code should check

While discussing solutions for the teardown problem which results from
circular dependencies between timers and workqueues, where timers schedule
work from their timer callback and workqueues arm the timers from work
items, it was discovered that the recent fix to the QCA code is incorrect.
That commit fixes the obvious problem of using del_timer() instead of
del_timer_sync() and reorders the teardown calls to
destroy_workqueue(wq);
del_timer_sync(t);
This makes it less likely to explode, but it's still broken:
destroy_workqueue(wq);
/* After this point @wq cannot be touched anymore */
---> timer expires
queue_work(wq) <---- Results in a NULL pointer dereference
deep in the work queue core code.
del_timer_sync(t);
Use the new timer_shutdown_sync() function to ensure that the timers are
disarmed, no timer callbacks are running and the timers cannot be armed
again. This restores the original teardown sequence:
timer_shutdown_sync(t);
destroy_workqueue(wq);
which is now correct because the timer core silently ignores potential
rearming attempts which can happen when destroy_workqueue() drains pending
work before mopping up the workqueue.

Add device specific data for max baudrate in autobaud mode. This allows the
host to use a baudrate higher than "init speed" when loading FW in autobaud
mode.
The device specific max baudrate in autobaud mode for CYW55572 is set to
921600 bps. Devices without device specific max baudrate in autobaud mode
will use init speed as before. If no device specific init speed has been
specified, it will default to the bcm_proto default 115200 bps.
The increased baud rate improves FW load time. The exact load time will
depend on the specific system and FW being used. As a rough indication,
the FW load time dropped from ~9s @ 115.2kbps to ~1.7s @ 921.6kbps in one
test.

Use the presence of a DT property, "brcm,requires-autobaud-mode", to enable
startup in autobaud mode. If the property is present, the device is started
in autobaud mode by asserting RTS (BT_UART_CTS_N) prior to powering on the
device.
Also prevent the use of unsupported commands for devices started in
autobaud mode. Only a limited subset of HCI commands are supported in
autobaud mode.
Some devices (e.g. CYW5557x) require autobaud mode to enable FW loading.
Autobaud mode can also be required on some boards where the controller
device is using a non-standard baud rate in normal mode when first powered
on.

While looking at a crash report on a timer list being corrupted, which
usually happens when a timer is freed while still active. This is
commonly triggered by code calling del_timer() instead of
del_timer_sync() just before freeing.
One possible culprit is the hci_qca driver, which does exactly that.
Eric mentioned that wake_retrans_timer could be rearmed via the work
queue, so also move the destruction of the work queue before
del_timer_sync().

There are provedly different firmware variants for the different
phones using some of these chips. These were extracted from a few
Samsung phones:
37446 BCM4334B0.samsung,codina-tmo.hcd
37366 BCM4334B0.samsung,golden.hcd
37403 BCM4334B0.samsung,kyle.hcd
37366 BCM4334B0.samsung,skomer.hcd
This patch supports the above naming schedule with inserting
[.board_name] between the firmware name and ".hcd". This scheme
is the same as used by the companion BRCM wireless chips
as can be seen in
drivers/net/wireless/broadcom/brcm80211/brcmfmac/firmware.c
or just by looking at the firmwares in linux-firmware/brcm.
Currently we only support board variants using the device
tree compatible string as board type, but other schemes are
possible.
This makes it possible to successfully load a few unique
firmware variants for some Samsung phones.

The DSDT for the Asus TF103C specifies a IOAPIC IRQ for the HCI -> host IRQ
but this is not correct. Unlike the previous entries in the table, this
time the correct GPIO to use instead is known; and the TF103C is battery
powered making runtime-pm support more important.
Extend the bcm_broken_irq_dmi_table mechanism to allow specifying the right
GPIO instead of just always disabling runtime-pm and add an entry to it for
the Asus TF103C.

Fix the following kernel oops in btmtksdio_interrrupt

[ 14.339168] kthread+0x148/0x3ac
[ 14.339176] ret_from_fork+0x10/0x30
That happened because hdev->power_on is already called before
sdio_set_drvdata which btmtksdio_interrupt handler relies on is not
properly set up.
The details are shown as the below: hci_register_dev would run
queue_work(hdev->req_workqueue, &hdev->power_on) as WQ_HIGHPRI
workqueue_struct to complete the power-on sequeunce and thus hci_power_on
may run before sdio_set_drvdata is done in btmtksdio_probe.
The hci_dev_do_open in hci_power_on would initialize the device and enable
the interrupt and thus it is possible that btmtksdio_interrupt is being
called right before sdio_set_drvdata is filled out.
When btmtksdio_interrupt is being called and sdio_set_drvdata is not filled
, the kernel oops is going to happen because btmtksdio_interrupt access an
uninitialized pointer.

Another subset of the more recent batch of Chinese clones aren't
specs-compliant and seem to lock up whenever they receive a
HCI_OP_SET_EVENT_FLT with flt_type set to zero/HCI_FLT_CLEAR_ALL,
which on Linux (until the recent HCI state-machine refactor) happened
right at BR/EDR setup. As there are other less-straightforward ways
of reaching those operations, this patch is still relevant.
So, while all the previous efforts to wrangle the herd of fake CSRs
seem to be paying off (and these also get detected as such) we
still need to take care of this quirk; testers seem to agree
that these dongles tend to work well enough afterwards.
From some cursory USB packet capture on Windows it seems like
that driver doesn't appear to use this clear-all functionality at all.
This patch was tested on some really popular AliExpress-style
dongles, in my case marked as "V5.0". Chip markings: UG8413,
the backside of the PCB says "USB Dangel" (sic).

There is a conflict between MediaTek wmt event and msft vendor extension
logic in the core layer since 145373cb1b ("Bluetooth: Add framework for

mediatek wmt event to the type of msft vendor event in the driver.
But the purpose we reported mediatek event to the core layer is for the
diagnostic purpose with that we are able to see the full packet trace via
monitoring socket with btmon. Thus, it is harmless we keep the original
type of mediatek vendor event here to avoid breaking the msft extension
function especially they can be supported by Mediatek future devices.
