ocfs2: further debugfs cleanups
There is no need to check return value of debugfs_create functions, but the last sweep through ocfs missed a number of places where this was happening. There is also no need to save the individual dentries for the debugfs files, as everything is can just be removed at once when the directory is removed. By getting rid of the file dentries for the debugfs entries, a bit of local memory can be saved as well. fat: work around race with userspace's read via blockdev while mounting
If userspace reads the buffer via blockdev while mounting, sb_getblk()+modify can race with buffer read via blockdev. For example, FS userspace bh = sb_getblk() modify bh->b_data read ll_rw_block(bh) fill bh->b_data by on-disk data /* lost modified data by FS */ set_buffer_uptodate(bh) set_buffer_uptodate(bh) Userspace should not use the blockdev while mounting though, the udev seems to be already doing this. Although I think the udev should try to avoid this, workaround the race by small overhead. Changes for gfs2:
- Use asynchronous glocks and timeouts to recover from deadlocks during rename and exchange: the lock ordering constraints the vfs uses are not sufficient to prevent deadlocks across multiple nodes. - Add support for IOMAP_ZERO and use iomap_zero_range to replace gfs2 specific code. - Various other minor fixes and cleanups. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIcBAABAgAGBQJdg3/uAAoJENW/n+sDE2U60QYQAIkbRCwr068kHFlCKd9p764O Qa8gyp+Jhz9xlI8onNmFrPtEsLPscJLQ8HETrBn7lcb2fa4KBr9cfXt4I7nxObsL t8E7QxQJ8LVK0vzMJvXUzyPBxnSUsxMCewoXLtsHYKf+XkB/TocWKbaFHKOB8FrP fkdPE43H84HUZzGSMb+XLl0/4BZTxSE3Gy9lUfnMrVQwmi0sk7JNdN8SpIYgibIp pyEZUjwXO/l4NwuAyhzRv+4OTW9PYAtKLkVVz13vPFc3d51a9yAgVIDdDEKY6Lhl NYEhsRPoSCcqrLBc/Xuk54pxRx+mdjdPhO25Jdfc5f6ZT9tewHErnfKZlMFFt+gg pd+oFfwfAM7H2qOY4FXgKSfRq4Pu/bSuxFA62IHAvxKiCDA2q+eeHxUtq5yvGc57 qJhZOf5TIzrVNzMCQkuBkM44CzFZffqg62AgN7XSBw/4A1A65DSAzL+g5Tyr6vWH ZGYTnqJunr4HbCS/VU4OhgCB3+l9QX8PC6ok5a4Uqc5Oj6bGGd94y8BZsYeKhGp2 u2tv3TpwAOnNjEUUDSCRfeQYah+qIUETevxZinHeg21yxyZT97SXiKm/h4uiBwUm ECsHw0+gzWEZXR+CDHsfc6qpmYHTYHv4u5z8Oya+fdlFzH2MUGnZlgs5GXAwE24k HnxpOvThElLJO0+UMlAS =tUTY -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'gfs2-for-5.4' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/gfs2/linux-gfs2 Pull gfs2 updates from Andreas Gruenbacher: - Use asynchronous glocks and timeouts to recover from deadlocks during rename and exchange: the lock ordering constraints the vfs uses are not sufficient to prevent deadlocks across multiple nodes. - Add support for IOMAP_ZERO and use iomap_zero_range to replace gfs2 specific code. - Various other minor fixes and cleanups. * tag 'gfs2-for-5.4' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/gfs2/linux-gfs2: gfs2: clear buf_in_tr when ending a transaction in sweep_bh_for_rgrps gfs2: Improve mmap write vs. truncate consistency gfs2: Use async glocks for rename gfs2: create function gfs2_glock_update_hold_time gfs2: separate holder for rgrps in gfs2_rename gfs2: Delete an unnecessary check before brelse() gfs2: Minor PAGE_SIZE arithmetic cleanups gfs2: Fix recovery slot bumping gfs2: Fix possible fs name overflows gfs2: untangle the logic in gfs2_drevalidate gfs2: Always mark inode dirty in fallocate gfs2: Minor gfs2_alloc_inode cleanup gfs2: implement gfs2_block_zero_range using iomap_zero_range gfs2: Add support for IOMAP_ZERO gfs2: gfs2_iomap_begin cleanup |

Added new ext4 debugging ioctls to allow userspace to get information
about the state of the extent status cache. Dropped workaround for pre-1970 dates which were encoded incorrectly in pre-4.4 kernels. Since both the kernel correctly generates, and e2fsck detects and fixes this issue for the past four years, it'e time to drop the workaround. (Also, it's not like files with dates in the distant past were all that common in the first place.) A lot of miscellaneous bug fixes and cleanups, including some ext4 Documentation fixes. Also included are two minor bug fixes in fs/unicode. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQEzBAABCAAdFiEEK2m5VNv+CHkogTfJ8vlZVpUNgaMFAl2D5ZIACgkQ8vlZVpUN gaO8NQf+ONLK5nu8KUk14uh8MOXMisiT+g1iqhynZcqtuZzTr4nKqUbHLmPDHrCC RiD/gkLhp6u+UlzYRJq6nudunid1be2/1bjoUm6lddE4XLtbeGHhZsGn1+9K/wy+ l8UFMXd8fCOlXNzajS85Hb0KSuzlrGYEjSrNecSa3KLxrv1kM1+FyKFcqQ7Ejs5/ VZYNtWo69R4wSEIawGkEZuNu/wFeLOzqJgxFJLo6zFxTAp449bbEduz12ssmkUhl QbXH9cXLR4pAZykzMRqHC8UFFTKmpLnc5EiT1Ajxzu4EAzB1SzqRJvbz/3CF3d/Z gBKDrDlasv75VJqVtqw4mCxmEoEYjw== =Iwrf -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'ext4_for_linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tytso/ext4 Pull ext4 updates from Ted Ts'o: "Added new ext4 debugging ioctls to allow userspace to get information about the state of the extent status cache. This is more cleanup and consolidation of the hmm APIs and the very strongly related mmu_notifier interfaces. Many places across the tree using these interfaces are touched in the process. Beyond that a cleanup to the page walker API and a few memremap related changes round out the series: - General improvement of hmm_range_fault() and related APIs, more documentation, bug fixes from testing, API simplification & consolidation, and unused API removal - Simplify the hmm related kconfigs to HMM_MIRROR and DEVICE_PRIVATE, and make them internal kconfig selects - Hoist a lot of code related to mmu notifier attachment out of drivers by using a refcount get/put attachment idiom and remove the convoluted mmu_notifier_unregister_no_release() and related APIs. - General API improvement for the migrate_vma API and revision of its only user in nouveau - Annotate mmu_notifiers with lockdep and sleeping region debugging Two series unrelated to HMM or mmu_notifiers came along due to dependencies: - Allow pagemap's memremap_pages family of APIs to work without providing a struct device - Make walk_page_range() and related use a constant structure for function pointers -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCgAdFiEEfB7FMLh+8QxL+6i3OG33FX4gmxoFAl1/nnkACgkQOG33FX4g mxqaRg//c6FqowV1pQlLutvAOAgMdpzfZ9eaaDKngy9RVQxz+k/MmJrdRH/p/mMA Pq93A1XfwtraGKErHegFXGEDk4XhOustVAVFwvjyXO41dTUdoFVUkti6ftbrl/rS 6CT+X90jlvrwdRY7QBeuo7lxx7z8Qkqbk1O1kc1IOracjKfNJS+y6LTamy6weM3g tIMHI65PkxpRzN36DV9uCN5dMwFzJ73DWHp1b0acnDIigkl6u5zp6orAJVWRjyQX nmEd3/IOvdxaubAoAvboNS5CyVb4yS9xshWWMbH6AulKJv3Glca1Aa7QuSpBoN8v wy4c9+umzqRgzgUJUe1xwN9P49oBNhJpgBSu8MUlgBA4IOc3rDl/Tw0b5KCFVfkH yHkp8n6MP8VsRrzXTC6Kx0vdjIkAO8SUeylVJczAcVSyHIo6/JUJCVDeFLSTVymh EGWJ7zX2iRhUbssJ6/izQTTQyCH3YIyZ5QtqByWuX2U7ZrfkqS3/EnBW1Q+j+gPF Z2yW8iT6k0iENw6s8psE9czexuywa/Lttz94IyNlOQ8rJTiQqB9wLaAvg9hvUk7a kuspL+JGIZkrL3ouCeO/VA6xnaP+Q7nR8geWBRb8zKGHmtWrb5Gwmt6t+vTnCC2l olIDebrnnxwfBQhEJ5219W+M1pBpjiTpqK/UdBd92A4+sOOhOD0= =FRGg -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'for-linus-hmm' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rdma/rdma Pull hmm updates from Jason Gunthorpe: "This is more cleanup and consolidation of the hmm APIs and the very strongly related mmu_notifier interfaces. Orangefs: a fix and a cleanup
fix: way back in the stone age (2003) mode was set to the magic number "755" in what is now fs/orangefs/namei.c(orangefs_symlink). y2038: add inode timestamp clamping
This series from Deepa Dinamani adds a per-superblock minimum/maximum timestamp limit for a file system, and clamps timestamps as they are written, to avoid random behavior from integer overflow as well as having different time stamps on disk vs in memory. At mount time, a warning is now printed for any file system that can represent current timestamps but not future timestamps more than 30 years into the future, similar to the arbitrary 30 year limit that was added to settimeofday(). This was picked as a compromise to warn users to migrate to other file systems (e.g. ext4 instead of ext3) when they need the file system to survive beyond 2038 (or similar limits in other file systems), but not get in the way of normal usage. fs-verity for 5.4
Please consider pulling fs-verity for 5.4. fs-verity is a filesystem feature that provides Merkle tree based hashing (similar to dm-verity) for individual readonly files, mainly for the purpose of efficient authenticity verification. This pull request includes: (a) The fs/verity/ support layer and documentation. (b) fs-verity support for ext4 and f2fs. Compared to the original fs-verity patchset from last year, the UAPI to enable fs-verity on a file has been greatly simplified. Lots of other things were cleaned up too. fs-verity is planned to be used by two different projects on Android; most of the userspace code is in place already. Another userspace tool ("fsverity-utils"), and xfstests, are also available. e2fsprogs and f2fs-tools already have fs-verity support. Other people have shown interest in using fs-verity too. I've tested this on ext4 and f2fs with xfstests, both the existing tests and the new fs-verity tests. This has also been in linux-next since July 30 with no reported issues except a couple minor ones I found myself and folded in fixes for. Ted and I will be co-maintaining fs-verity. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iIoEABYIADIWIQSacvsUNc7UX4ntmEPzXCl4vpKOKwUCXX8ZUBQcZWJpZ2dlcnNA Z29vZ2xlLmNvbQAKCRDzXCl4vpKOK2YOAQCbnBAKWDxXS3alLARRwjQLjmEtQIGl gsek+WurFIg/zAEAlpSzHwu13LvYzTqv3rhO2yhSlvhnDu4GQEJPXPm0wgM= =ID0n -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'fsverity-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/fs/fscrypt/fscrypt Pull fs-verity support from Eric Biggers: "fs-verity is a filesystem feature that provides Merkle tree based hashing (similar to dm-verity) for individual readonly files, mainly for the purpose of efficient authenticity verification. fscrypt update for 5.4
This is a large update to fs/crypto/ which includes: - Add ioctls that add/remove encryption keys to/from a filesystem-level keyring. These fix user-reported issues where e.g. an encrypted home directory can break NetworkManager, sshd, Docker, etc. because they don't get access to the needed keyring. These ioctls also provide a way to lock encrypted directories that doesn't use the vm.drop_caches sysctl, so is faster, more reliable, and doesn't always need root. - Add a new encryption policy version ("v2") which switches to a more standard, secure, and flexible key derivation function, and starts verifying that the correct key was supplied before using it. The key derivation improvement is needed for its own sake as well as for ongoing feature work for which the current way is too inflexible. Work is in progress to update both Android and the 'fscrypt' userspace tool to use both these features. (Working patches are available and just need to be reviewed+merged.) Chrome OS will likely use them too. This has also been tested on ext4, f2fs, and ubifs with xfstests -- both the existing encryption tests, and the new tests for this. This has also been in linux-next since Aug 16 with no reported issues. I'm also using an fscrypt v2-encrypted home directory on my personal desktop. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iIoEABYIADIWIQSacvsUNc7UX4ntmEPzXCl4vpKOKwUCXX8L/BQcZWJpZ2dlcnNA Z29vZ2xlLmNvbQAKCRDzXCl4vpKOK3DqAQDER8ji5uMWbh00h4+eywfIQdcrUWI0 t2iEdqfNOoGTWAEAhE2u0SebIVwjluQ3N3HU9b/U6e5R0ZkZU9IQdwkZhQ0= =J5WG -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'fscrypt-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/fs/fscrypt/fscrypt Pull fscrypt updates from Eric Biggers: "This is a large update to fs/crypto/ which includes: - Add ioctls that add/remove encryption keys to/from a filesystem-level keyring. Staging/IIO driver patches for 5.4-rc1
Here is the big staging/iio driver update for 5.4-rc1. Lots of churn here, with a few driver/filesystems moving out of staging finally: - erofs moved out of staging - greybus core code moved out of staging Along with that, a new filesytem has been added: - extfat to provide support for those devices requiring that filesystem (i.e. transfer devices to/from windows systems or printers.) Other than that, there a number of new IIO drivers, and lots and lots and lots of staging driver cleanups and minor fixes as people continue to dig into those for easy changes. Driver core patches for 5.4-rc1
Here is the big driver core update for 5.4-rc1.
There was a bit of a churn in here, with a number of core and OF
platform patches being added to the tree, and then after much discussion
and review and a day-long in-person meeting, they were decided to be
reverted and a new set of patches is currently being reviewed on the
mailing list.
Other than that churn, there are two "persistent" branches in here that
other trees will be pulling in as well during the merge window. One
branch to add support for drivers to have the driver core automatically
add sysfs attribute files when a driver is bound to a device so that the
driver doesn't have to manually do it (and then clean it up, as it
always gets it wrong).
There's another branch in here for generic lookup helpers for the driver
core that lots of busses are starting to use. That's the majority of
the non-driver-core changes in this patch series.
There's also some on-going debugfs file creation cleanup that has been
slowly happening over the past few releases, with the goal to hopefully
get that done sometime next year.
All of these have been in linux-next for a while now with no reported
issues.

that was removed in 2004; one doesn't want to rush these things.
- The usual assortment of fixes, typo corrections, etc.
You'll still find a handful of annoying conflicts against other trees,
mostly tied to the last RST conversions; resolutions are straightforward
and the linux-next ones are good.

f2fs: add a condition to detect overflow in f2fs_ioc_gc_range()
end = range.start + range.len; If the range.start/range.len is a very large value, then end can overflow in this operation. It results into a crash in get_valid_blocks() when accessing the invalid range.start segno. This issue is reported in ioctl fuzz testing. Merge branch 'timers-core-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip
Pull core timer updates from Thomas Gleixner: "Timers and timekeeping updates: - A large overhaul of the posix CPU timer code which is a preparation for moving the CPU timer expiry out into task work so it can be properly accounted on the task/process. An update to the bogus permission checks will come later during the merge window as feedback was not complete before heading of for travel. - Switch the timerqueue code to use cached rbtrees and get rid of the homebrewn caching of the leftmost node. - Consolidate hrtimer_init() + hrtimer_init_sleeper() calls into a single function - Implement the separation of hrtimers to be forced to expire in hard interrupt context even when PREEMPT_RT is enabled and mark the affected timers accordingly. - Implement a mechanism for hrtimers and the timer wheel to protect RT against priority inversion and live lock issues when a (hr)timer which should be canceled is currently executing the callback. Instead of infinitely spinning, the task which tries to cancel the timer blocks on a per cpu base expiry lock which is held and released by the (hr)timer expiry code. - Enable the Hyper-V TSC page based sched_clock for Hyper-V guests resulting in faster access to timekeeping functions. - Updates to various clocksource/clockevent drivers and their device tree bindings. - The usual small improvements all over the place" * 'timers-core-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip: (101 commits) posix-cpu-timers: Fix permission check regression posix-cpu-timers: Always clear head pointer on dequeue hrtimer: Add a missing bracket and hide `migration_base' on !SMP posix-cpu-timers: Make expiry_active check actually work correctly posix-timers: Unbreak CONFIG_POSIX_TIMERS=n build tick: Mark sched_timer to expire in hard interrupt context hrtimer: Add kernel doc annotation for HRTIMER_MODE_HARD x86/hyperv: Hide pv_ops access for CONFIG_PARAVIRT=n posix-cpu-timers: Utilize timerqueue for storage posix-cpu-timers: Move state tracking to struct posix_cputimers posix-cpu-timers: Deduplicate rlimit handling posix-cpu-timers: Remove pointless comparisons posix-cpu-timers: Get rid of 64bit divisions posix-cpu-timers: Consolidate timer expiry further posix-cpu-timers: Get rid of zero checks rlimit: Rewrite non-sensical RLIMIT_CPU comment posix-cpu-timers: Respect INFINITY for hard RTTIME limit posix-cpu-timers: Switch thread group sampling to array posix-cpu-timers: Restructure expiry array posix-cpu-timers: Remove cputime_expires ... |

gfs2: clear buf_in_tr when ending a transaction in sweep_bh_for_rgrps
In function sweep_bh_for_rgrps, which is a helper for punch_hole,
it uses variable buf_in_tr to keep track of when it needs to commit
pending block frees on a partial delete that overflows the
transaction created for the delete. The problem is that the
variable was initialized at the start of function sweep_bh_for_rgrps
but it was never cleared, even when starting a new transaction.
This patch reinitializes the variable when the transaction is
ended, so the next transaction starts out with it cleared.
