Here is the big set of driver core patches for 5.15-rc1.
These do change a number of different things across different
subsystems, and because of that, there were 2 stable tags created that
might have already come into your tree from different pulls that did the
following
- changed the bus remove callback to return void
- sysfs iomem_get_mapping rework
The latter one will cause a tiny merge issue with your tree, as there
was a last-minute fix for this in 5.14 in your tree, but the fixup
should be "obvious". If you want me to provide a fixed merge for this,
please let me know.
Other than those two things, there's only a few small things in here:
- kernfs performance improvements for huge numbers of sysfs
users at once
- tiny api cleanups
- other minor changes
All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported
problems, other than the before-mentioned merge issue.

The current code treats an empty iotlb provdied in set_map() as a
special case and destroy the memory region object. This must not be done
since the virtqueue objects reference this MR. Doing so will cause the
driver unload to emit errors and log timeouts caused by the firmware
complaining on busy resources.
This patch treats an empty iotlb as any other change of mapping. In this
case, mlx5_vdpa_create_mr() will fail and the entire set_map() call to
fail.
This issue has not been encountered before but was seen to occur in a
non-official version of qemu. Since qemu is a userspace program, the
driver must protect against such case.

The driver core ignores the return value of this callback because there
is only little it can do when a device disappears.
This is the final bit of a long lasting cleanup quest where several
buses were converted to also return void from their remove callback.
Additionally some resource leaks were fixed that were caused by drivers
returning an error code in the expectation that the driver won't go
away.
With struct bus_type::remove returning void it's prevented that newly
implemented buses return an ignored error code and so don't anticipate
wrong expectations for driver authors.

In order to support running vdpa using vritio_vdpa driver, we need to
create a different kind of MR, one that has 1:1 mapping, since the
addresses referring to virtqueues are dma addresses.
We create the 1:1 MR in mlx5_vdpa_dev_add() only in case firmware
supports the general capability umem_uid_0. The reason for that is that
1:1 MRs must be created with uid == 0 while virtqueue objects can be
created with uid == 0 only when the firmware capability is on.
If the set_map() callback is called with new translations provided
through iotlb, the driver will destroy the 1:1 MR and create a regular
one.

Before SF support was introduced, the DMA device was equal to
mdev->device which was in essence equal to pdev->dev.
With SF introduction this is no longer true. It has already been
handled for vhost_vdpa since the reference to the dma device can from
within mlx5_vdpa. With virtio_vdpa this broke. To fix this we set the
real dma device when initializing the device.
In addition, for the sake of consistency, previous references in the

net/mlx5: Expose MPFS configuration API
MPFS is the multi physical function switch that bridges traffic between
the physical port and any physical functions associated with it. The
driver is required to add or remove MAC entries to properly forward
incoming traffic to the correct physical function.
We export the API to control MPFS so that other drivers, such as
mlx5_vdpa are able to add MAC addresses of their network interfaces.
The MAC address of the vdpa interface must be configured into the MPFS L2
address. Failing to do so could cause, in some NIC configurations, failure
to forward packets to the vdpa network device instance.
Fix this by adding calls to update the MPFS table.

This will allow running vDPA for virtio block protocol.
It's a preliminary implementation with a simple request handling:
for each request, only the status (last byte) is set.
It's always set to VIRTIO_BLK_S_OK.
Also input validation is missing and will be added in the next commits.

vringh_getdesc_iotlb() allocates memory to store the kvec, that
is freed with vringh_kiov_cleanup().
vringh_getdesc_iotlb() is able to reuse a kvec previously allocated,
so in order to avoid to allocate the kvec for each request, we are
not calling vringh_kiov_cleanup() when we finished to handle a
request, but we should call it when we free the entire device.

The identical mapping used until now created issues when mapping
different virtual pages with the same physical address.
To solve this issue, we can use the iova module, to handle the IOVA
allocation.
For simplicity we use an IOVA allocator with byte granularity.
We add two new functions, vdpasim_map_range() and vdpasim_unmap_range(),
to handle the IOVA allocation and the registration into the IOMMU/IOTLB.
These functions are used by dma_map_ops callbacks.

To add one or more VDPA devices, define a management device which
allows adding or removing vdpa device. A management device defines
set of callbacks to manage vdpa devices.
To begin with, it defines add and remove callbacks through which a user
defined vdpa device can be added or removed.
A unique management device is identified by its unique handle identified
by management device name and optionally the bus name.

map_direct_mr() assumed that the number of scatter/gather entries
returned by dma_map_sg_attrs() was equal to the number of segments in
the sgl list. This led to wrong population of the mkey object. Fix this
by properly referring to the returned value.
The hardware expects each MTT entry to contain the DMA address of a
contiguous block of memory of size (1 << mr->log_size) bytes.
dma_map_sg_attrs() can coalesce several sg entries into a single
scatter/gather entry of contiguous DMA range so we need to scan the list
and refer to the size of each s/g entry.
In addition, get rid of fill_sg() which effect is overwritten by
populate_mtts().

Make sure to put dma write memory barrier after updating CQ consumer
index so the hardware knows that there are available CQE slots in the
queue.
Failure to do this can cause the update of the RX doorbell record to get
updated before the CQ consumer index resulting in CQ overrun.

vringh_getdesc_iotlb() manages 2 iovs for writable and readable
descriptors. This is very useful for the block device, where for
each request we have both types of descriptor.
Let's split the vdpasim_virtqueue's iov field in out_iov and
in_iov to use them with vringh_getdesc_iotlb().
We are using VIRTIO terminology for "out" (readable by the device)
and "in" (writable by the device) descriptors.

mlx5-next auxbus support
This pull request is targeting net-next and rdma-next branches.
This series provides mlx5 support for auxiliary bus devices.
It starts with a merge commit of tag 'auxbus-5.11-rc1' from
gregkh/driver-core into mlx5-next, then the mlx5 patches that will convert
mlx5 ulp devices (netdev, rdma, vdpa) to use the proper auxbus
infrastructure instead of the internal mlx5 device and interface management
implementation, which Leon is deleting at the end of this patchset.

drivers/vdpa/mlx5/ uses vhost_iotlb*() interfaces, so select
VHOST_IOTLB to make them be built.
However, if VHOST_IOTLB is the only VHOST symbol that is
set/enabled, the object file still won't be built because
drivers/Makefile won't descend into drivers/vhost/ to build it,
so make drivers/Makefile build the needed binary whenever
VHOST_IOTLB is set, like it does for VHOST_RING.

vdpa_sim generates a ramdom MAC address but it is never used by upper

Because of that, virtio-net always regenerates a random MAC address each

load/unload.

the new address mapping. We also need to setup the hardware resources
since they depend on the memory region.
If these calls happen before DRIVER_OK, It means that driver VQs may
also not been setup and we may not create them yet. In this case we want
to avoid setting up the other resources and defer this till we get
DRIVER OK.

Split out all the bits that are purely for dma_map_ops implementations
and related code into a new <linux/dma-map-ops.h> header so that they
don't get pulled into all the drivers. That also means the architecture
specific <asm/dma-mapping.h> is not pulled in by <linux/dma-mapping.h>

x86 or arm versions in a few not overly portable drivers.

Clang warns several times when building for 32-bit ARM along the lines
of:
drivers/vdpa/mlx5/net/mlx5_vnet.c:1462:31: warning: shift count >= width
of type [-Wshift-count-overflow]
ndev->mvdev.mlx_features |= BIT(VIRTIO_F_VERSION_1);
^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is related to the BIT macro, which uses an unsigned long literal,
which is 32-bit on ARM so having a shift equal to or larger than 32 will
cause this warning, such as the above, where VIRTIO_F_VERSION_1 is 32.
To avoid this, use BIT_ULL, which will be an unsigned long long. This
matches the size of the features field throughout this driver, which is
u64 so there should be no functional change.

The memory allocation failure checking for in and out is currently
checking if the pointers are valid rather than the contents of what
they point to. Hence the null check on failed memory allocations is
incorrect. Fix this by adding the missing indirection in the check.
Also for the default case, just set the *in and *out to null as
these don't have any thing allocated to kfree. Finally remove the
redundant *in and *out check as these have been already done on each
allocation in the case statement.

vhost is currently broken on the some ARM configs.
The reason is that the ring element addresses are passed between
components with different alignments assumptions. Thus, if
guest selects a pointer and host then gets and dereferences
it, then alignment assumed by the host's compiler might be
greater than the actual alignment of the pointer.
compiler on the host from assuming pointer is aligned.
This actually triggers on ARM with -mabi=apcs-gnu - which is a
deprecated configuration. With this OABI, compiler assumes that
all structures are 4 byte aligned - which is stronger than
virtio guarantees for available and used rings, which are
merely 2 bytes. Thus a guest without -mabi=apcs-gnu running
on top of host with -mabi=apcs-gnu will be broken.
The correct fix is to force alignment of structures - however
that is an intrusive fix that's best deferred until the next release.
We didn't previously support such ancient systems at all - this surfaced
after vdpa support prompted removing dependency of vhost on
VIRTULIZATION. So for now, let's just add something along the lines of
depends on !ARM || AEABI
to the virtio Kconfig declaration, and add a comment that it has to do
with struct member alignment.
Note: we can't make VHOST and VHOST_RING themselves have
a dependency since these are selected. Add a new symbol for that.
We should be able to drop this dependency down the road.

If user did not configure any vdpa drivers, neither vhost
nor virtio vdpa are going to be useful. So there's no point
in prompting for these and selecting vdpa core automatically.
Simplify configuration by making virtio and vhost vdpa
drivers depend on vdpa menu entry. Once done, we no longer
need a separate menu entry, so also get rid of this.
While at it, fix up the IFC entry: VDPA->vDPA for consistency
with other places.

get_vq_align returns u16 now, but that's not enough for
systems/devices with 64K pages. All callers assign it to
a u32 variable anyway, so let's just change the return
value type to u32.

We have both vhost and virtio drivers that depend on vdpa.
It's easier to locate it at a top level directory otherwise
we run into issues e.g. if vhost is built-in but virtio
is modular. Let's just move it up a level.
