a7e71e7f9f OMAPDSS: Implement display (dis)connect support
We currently have two steps in panel initialization and startup: probing
and enabling. After the panel has been probed, it's ready and can be
configured and later enabled.

This model is not enough with more complex display pipelines, where we
may have, for example, two panels, of which only one can be used at a
time, connected to the same video output.

To support that kind of scenarios, we need to add new step to the
initialization: connect.

This patch adds support for connecting and disconnecting panels. After
probe, but before connect, no panel ops should be called. When the
connect is called, a proper video pipeline is established, and the panel
is ready for use. If some part in the video pipeline is already
connected (by some other panel), the connect call fails.

One key difference with the old style setup is that connect() handles
also connecting to the overlay manager. This means that the omapfb (or
omapdrm) no longer needs to figure out which overlay manager to use, but
it can just call connect() on the panel, and the proper overlay manager
is connected by omapdss.

This also allows us to add back the support for dynamic switching
between two exclusive panels. However, the current panel device model is
not changed to support this, as the new device model is implemented in
the following patches and the old model will be removed. The new device
model supports dynamic switching.

04b1fc0291 OMAPDRM: fix overlay manager handling
Currently omapdrm creates crtcs, which map directly to DSS overlay
managers, only on demand at init time. This would make it difficult to
manage connecting the display entities in the future, as the code cannot
just search for a suitable overlay manager.

We cannot fix this the sane way, which would be to create crtcs for each
overlay manager, because we need an overlay for each crtc. With limited
number of overlays, that's not possible.

So the solution for now is to detach the overlay manager from the crtc.
crtcs are still created on demand at init time, but all overlay managers
are always initialized by the omapdss.

This way we can create and connect whole display pipelines from the
overlay manager to the display, regardless of which crtcs omapdrm would
create.

7f7cdbd688 OMAPDSS: split overlay manager creation
Split the function that creates overlay manager structs into two: one
that creates just the structs, and one that creates the sysfs files for
the manager.

This will help us use the overlay manager structs with omapdrm in the
following patches, while still leaving the sysfs files out.

679852dbee OMAPDSS: fix dss_get_ctx_loss_count for DT
When using DT, dss device does not have platform data. However,
dss_get_ctx_loss_count() uses dss device's platform data to find the
get_ctx_loss_count function pointer.

To fix this, dss_get_ctx_loss_count() needs to be changed to get the
platform data from the omapdss device, which is a "virtual" device and
always has platform data.

0a20012605 OMAPDSS: add pdata->default_display_name
We can currently set the default display (i.e. the initial display) in
the omapdss platform data by using a pointer to the default
omap_dss_device. Internally omapdss uses the device's name to resolve
the default display.

As it's difficult to get the omap_dss_device pointer in the future,
after we've changed the omapdss device model, this patch adds a new way
to define the default display, by using the name of the display.

63e28a7a5f uvesafb: Clean up MTRR code
The old code allowed very strange memory types. Now it works like
all the other video drivers: ioremap_wc is used unconditionally,
and MTRRs are set if PAT is unavailable (unless MTRR is disabled
by a module parameter).

UC, WB, and WT support is gone. If there are MTRR conflicts that prevent
addition of a WC MTRR, adding a non-conflicting MTRR is pointless; it's
better to just turn off MTRR support entirely.

As an added bonus, any MTRR added is freed on unload.

ffa3fd21de videomode: implement public of_get_display_timing()
The current of_get_display_timings() reads multiple display timings,
allocating memory for the entries. However, most of the time when
parsing display timings from DT data is needed, there's only one display
timing as it's not common for a LCD panel to support multiple videomodes.

This patch creates a new function:

int of_get_display_timing(struct device_node *np, const char *name,
               struct display_timing *dt);

which can be used to parse a single display timing entry from the given
node name.

301bc0675b video: ssd1307fb: Make use of horizontal addressing mode
By default, the ssd1307 controller uses an addressing mode called page
addressing. This mode only increments the column cursor in memory when
writing data but will not increments the page cursor when we are at the
end of the page.

However, the controller supports another addressing mode, called
horizontal addressing, that will maintain both the page and column
cursors when writing data to the controller.

That means that we can just remove the code that increments the current
page address and reset the column cursor when reaching the end of the
line, allowing to have a lower data overhead, and a simpler driver.

3394e645a8 video: ssd1307fb: Speed up the communication with the controller
The code until now was sending only 1pixel-wide page segment at once,
and started a new transfer every time. It has proven very inefficient,
because for one byte to display on the screen, we had to actually send 3
bytes over I2C: the address, the type of data that was going to the
controller, and then the actual data.

This patches changes that by sending a whole page at once, avoiding most
of this expensive overhead.

26549c8d36 drivers/video: implement a simple framebuffer driver
A simple frame-buffer describes a raw memory region that may be rendered
to, with the assumption that the display hardware has already been set
up to scan out from that buffer.

This is useful in cases where a bootloader exists and has set up the
display hardware, but a Linux driver doesn't yet exist for the display
hardware.

Examples use-cases include:

* The built-in LCD panels on the Samsung ARM chromebook, and Tegra
devices, and likely many other ARM or embedded systems. These cannot
yet be supported using a full graphics driver, since the panel control
should be provided by the CDF (Common Display Framework), which has been
stuck in design/review for quite some time. One could support these
panels using custom SoC-specific code, but there is a desire to use
common infra-structure rather than having each SoC vendor invent their
own code, hence the desire to wait for CDF.

* Hardware for which a full graphics driver is not yet available, and
the path to obtain one upstream isn't yet clear. For example, the
  Raspberry Pi.

* Any hardware in early stages of upstreaming, before a full graphics
driver has been tackled. This driver can provide a graphical boot
console (even full X support) much earlier in the upstreaming process,
thus making new SoC or board support more generally useful earlier.

591a0ac7f1 OMAPDSS: Fix crash with DT boot
When booting with DT, there's a crash when omapfb is probed. This is
caused by the fact that omapdss+DT is not yet supported, and thus
omapdss is not probed at all. On the other hand, omapfb is always
probed. When omapfb tries to use omapdss, there's a NULL pointer
dereference crash. The same error should most likely happen with omapdrm
and omap_vout also.

To fix this, add an "initialized" state to omapdss. When omapdss has
been probed, it's marked as initialized. omapfb, omapdrm and omap_vout
check this state when they are probed to see that omapdss is actually
there.

daf799cca8 Merge branch 'upstream' of git://git.linux-mips.org/pub/scm/ralf/upstream-linus
Pull MIPS updates from Ralf Baechle:

 - More work on DT support for various platforms

 - Various fixes that were to late to make it straight into 3.9

 - Improved platform support, in particular the Netlogic XLR and
BCM63xx, and the SEAD3 and Malta eval boards.

 - Support for several Ralink SOC families.

 - Complete support for the microMIPS ASE which basically reencodes the
existing MIPS32/MIPS64 ISA to use non-constant size instructions.

 - Some fallout from LTO work which remove old cruft and will generally
make the MIPS kernel easier to maintain and resistant to compiler
optimization, even in absence of LTO.

 - KVM support. While MIPS has announced hardware virtualization
extensions this KVM extension uses trap and emulate mode for
virtualization of MIPS32. More KVM work to add support for VZ
hardware virtualizaiton extensions and MIPS64 will probably already
   be merged for 3.11.

Most of this has been sitting in -next for a long time. All defconfigs
have been build or run time tested except three for which fixes are being
sent by other maintainers.

Semantic conflict with kvm updates done as per Ralf

d7321df327 video: mxsfb: Adapt to new videomode API
commit 6cd2c7db4 (videomode: videomode_from_timing work) changed the name of
the function from videomode_from_timing() to videomode_from_timings().

commit 32ed6ef1 (videomode: create enum for videomode's display flags) changed
the 'data_flags' field in videomode structure to 'flags'

Adapt to these changes in order to fix the following errors:

drivers/video/mxsfb.c:761:3: error: too many arguments to function 'videomode_from_timing'
drivers/video/mxsfb.c:761:7: error: void value not ignored as it ought to be
drivers/video/mxsfb.c:768:9: error: 'struct videomode' has no member named 'data_flags'
drivers/video/mxsfb.c:770:9: error: 'struct videomode' has no member named 'data_flags'

Also, select VIDEOMODE_HELPER instead of OF_VIDEOMODE, as this one is
deprecated.

5647ac0ad4 Removal of GENERIC_GPIO for v3.10
GENERIC_GPIO now synonymous with GPIOLIB. There are no longer any valid
cases for enableing GENERIC_GPIO without GPIOLIB, even though it is
possible to do so which has been causing confusion and breakage. This
branch does the work to completely eliminate GENERIC_GPIO.

However, it is not trivial to just create a branch to remove it. Over
the course of the v3.9 cycle more code referencing GENERIC_GPIO has been
added to linux-next that conflicts with this branch. The following must
be done to resolve the conflicts when merging this branch into mainline:

 * "git grep CONFIG_GENERIC_GPIO" should return 0 hits. Matches should be
   replaced with CONFIG_GPIOLIB
 * "git grep '\bGENERIC_GPIO\b'" should return 1 hit in the Chinese
   documentation.
 * Selectors of GENERIC_GPIO should be turned into selectors of GPIOLIB
 * definitions of the option in architecture Kconfig code should be deleted.

Stephen has 3 merge fixup patches[1] that do the above. They are currently
applicable on mainline as of May 2nd.

88564dda0e MIPS: remove obsolete Kconfig macros
The support for PB1100, PB1500, and PB1550 got merged into the code for
DB1000 and DB1550 code in v3.7. When that was done the three related
Kconfig symbols were dropped. But not all related Kconfig macros were
removed. Do so now.

Note that the PB1100 code in the Au1100 LCD driver is removed entirely
and not converted to use its current Kconfig macro. That is done because
the macros it uses (PB1100_G_CONTROL, PB1100_G_CONTROL_BL, and
PB1100_G_CONTROL_VDD) are never defined. Actually only one of these was
ever defined (PB1100_G_CONTROL) but that define was removed in v2.6.34.
So, as far as I can tell, this code could have never compiled.

6fa52ed33b ARM: arm-soc driver changes for 3.10
This is a rather large set of patches for device drivers that for one
reason or another the subsystem maintainer preferred to get merged
through the arm-soc tree. There are both new drivers as well as
existing drivers that are getting converted from platform-specific
code into standalone drivers using the appropriate subsystem
 specific interfaces.

In particular, we can now have pinctrl, clk, clksource and irqchip
drivers in one file per driver, without the need to call into
platform specific interface, or to get called from platform specific
code, as long as all information about the hardware is provided
 through a device tree.

Most of the drivers we touch this time are for clocksource. Since
now most of them are part of drivers/clocksource, I expect that we
won't have to touch these again from arm-soc and can let the
clocksource maintainers take care of these in the future.

Another larger part of this series is specific to the exynos platform,
which is seeing some significant effort in upstreaming and
modernization of its device drivers this time around, which
unfortunately is also the cause for the churn and a lot of the
 merge conflicts.

There is one new subsystem that gets merged as part of this series:
the reset controller interface, which is a very simple interface
for taking devices on the SoC out of reset or back into reset.
Patches to use this interface on i.MX follow later in this merge
window, and we are going to have other platforms (at least tegra
and sirf) get converted in 3.11. This will let us get rid of
platform specific callbacks in a number of platform independent
 device drivers.

dfbc32316c OMAPFB: defer probe if no displays
omapfb requires the panel drivers to have been probed when omapfb is
initialized. omapfb does not support insertion of new panels after its
probe. This causes a problem in case omapdss or the panel probes have
been deferred due to EPROBE_DEFER error, as omapfb won't find any
displays.

As a quick fix, this patch changes the omapfb probe so that if omapfb
does not find any displays, it'll return EPROBE_DEFER. This is not
perfect, as with a board with no displays, omapfb will get deferred
forever. Also, if the board has multiple displays, but only some of them
have been probed, omapfb will start and leave the unprobed displays out.

However, we can decide it with 'size_program' data. If the size is

0b81857339 backlight: lp855x: move backlight mode platform data
The brightness of LP855x devices is controlled by I2C register or PWM
input . This mode was selected through the platform data, but it can be
chosen by the driver internally without platform data configuration.

How to decide the control mode:
If the PWM period has specific value, the mode is PWM input.
On the other hand, the mode is register-based.
This mode selection is done on the _probe().

Move 'mode' from a header file to the driver private data structure,
'lp855 x'. And correlated code was replaced.

46e1915eef drivers/video/backlight/platform_lcd.c: introduce probe callback

Fix three typos (originally) introduced by commit a9a84c37d1

Two of these typos were introduced in v2.6.25. (The third was
introduced in 915190f7d4 ("[ARM] 5614/1: at91: atmel_lcdfb: add
at91sam9g10 support to atmel LCD driver")). Checking these commits

fc9bbca8f6 vm: convert fb_mmap to vm_iomap_memory() helper
This is my example conversion of a few existing mmap users. The
fb_mmap() case is a good example because it is a bit more complicated

the two, so the helper function still works).

2c6360fb41 OMAPDSS: DPI: widen the pck search when using dss fck
When not using DSI PLL to generate the pixel clock, but DSS FCK, the
possible pixel clock rates are rather limited. DSS FCK is currently used
on OMAP2 and OMAP3.

When using Beagleboard with a monitor that supports high resolutions,
the clock rates do not match (at least for me) for the monitor's pixel
clocks within the current threshold in the code, which is +/- 1MHz.

This patch widens the search up to +/- 15MHz. The search is done in
steps, i.e. it first tries to find a rather exact clock, than a bit less
exact, etc. so this should not change the cases where a clock was
already found.

648a55e125 OMAPDSS: fix dss_fck clock rate rounding
DSS func clock is calculated with prate / div * m. However, the current
omapdss code calculates it with prate * m / div, which yields a slightly
different result when there's a remainder. For example, 432000000 / 14 *
2 = 61714284, but 432000000 * 2 / 14 = 61714285.

In addition to that, the clock framework wants the clock rate given with
clk_set_rate to be higher than the actual (truncated) end result. So, if
prate is 432000000, and div is 14, the real result is 30857142.8571...
We need to call clk_set_rate with 30857143, which gives us a clock of
30857142. That's why we need to use DIV_ROUND_UP() when calling
clk_set_rate.

This patch fixes the clock calculation.

38dd2daf29 drivers/video: fsl-diu-fb: add hardware cursor support
The Freescale DIU supports a 32x32 color hardware cursor. Framebuffer
cursors are monochrome, so the driver converts the image data to the
format that the DIU expects and then programs to hardware accordingly.

The support cursor enabling/disabling, we provide two cursor image buffers.
One is always blank (all zeroes), and the other contains the real cursor
image data. To disable the cursor (used typically for cursor blinking),
we just tell the hardware to use the blank cursor data.

c35eeb2e80 OMAPDSS: DISPC: Configure doublestride for NV12 when using 2D Tiler buffers
When using a DISPC video pipeline to a fetch a NV12 buffer in a 2D container, we
need to set set a doublestride bit in the video pipe's ATTRIBUTES register. This
is needed because the stride for the UV plane(using a 16 bit Tiler container) is
double the stride for the Y plane(using a 8 bit Tiler container) for the 0 or
180 degree views. The ROW_INC register is meant for the Y plane, and the HW will
calculate the row increment needed for the UV plane by using double the stride
value based on whether this bit is set or not.

Set the bit when we are using a 2D Tiler buffer and when rotation is 0 or 180
degrees. The stride value is the same for 90 and 270 degree Tiler views, hence
the bit shouldn't be set.

some frequencies were increased from OMAP5 ES1 to OMAP5 ES2. We support only
OMAP5 ES2 in the kernel, so replace the ES1 values with ES2 values. Increase the
DSI PLL Fint range, this was previously just copied from the OMAP4 param range
struct.

Fix the maximum DSS_FCLK on OMAP2, it's 133 Mhz according to the TRM.

ca5ca69cab omapdss: DISPC: add max pixel clock limits for LCD and TV managers
Each version of OMAP has a limitation on the maximum pixel clock frequency
supported by an overlay manager. This limit isn't checked by omapdss. Add
dispc feats for lcd and tv managers and check whether the target timings can
be supported or not.

The pixel clock limitations are actually more complex. They depend on which OPP
OMAP is in, and they also depend on which encoder is the manager connected to.
The OPP dependence is ignored as DSS forces the PM framework to be on OPP100
when DSS is enabled, and the encoder dependencies are ignored by DISPC for now.
These limits should come from the encoder driver.

The OMAP2 TRM doesn't mention the maximum pixel clock limit. This value is left
as half of DSS_FCLK, as OMAP2 requires the PCD to be atleast 2.

7ab0a48420 video: fb: vt8500: Convert framebuffer drivers to standardized binding
Now that a display timing binding is available, convert our almost identical
binding to use the standard binding.

This patch converts the vt8500 and wm8505 framebuffer drivers and
associated dts/dtsi files to use the standard binding as defined in
bindings/video/display-timing.txt.

There are two side-effects of making this conversion:

1) The fb node should now be in the board file, rather than the soc file as
the display-timing node is a child of the fb node.

2) We still require a bits per pixel property to initialize the framebuffer
for the different lcd panels. Rather than including this as part of the
display timing, it is moved into the framebuffer node.

I have also taken the opportunity to alphabetise the includes of each
driver to avoid double-ups.

9e340fdc5a drivers/video/wm8505fb.c: use devm_ functions
The various devm_ functions allocate memory that is released when a driver
detaches. This patch uses these functions for data that is allocated in
the probe function of a platform device and is only freed in the remove
function.

The patch makes some other cleanups. First, the original code used
devm_kzalloc, but kfree. This would lead to a double free. The problem
was found using the following semantic match (http://coccinelle.lip6.fr/):

// <smpl>
@@
expression x,e;
@@
x = devm_kzalloc(...)
... when != x = e
?-kfree(x,...);
// </smpl>

The error-handing code of devm_request_and_ioremap does not print any
warning message, because devm_request_and_ioremap does this.

The call to dma_alloc_coherent is converted to its devm equivalent,
dmam_alloc_coherent. This implicitly introduces a call to
dmam_free_coherent, which was completly missing in the original code.

A semicolon is removed at the end of the error-handling code for the call
to dma_alloc_coherent.

The block of code calling fb_alloc_cmap is moved below the block of code
calling wm8505fb_set_par, so that the error-handing code of the call to
wm8505fb_set_par can just return ret. This way there is only one block of
error-handling code that needs to call fb_dealloc_cmap, and so this is
moved up to the place where it is needed, eliminating the need for all
gotos and labels in the function. This was suggested by Tony Prisk.

The initializations of fbi and ret at the beginning of the function are not
necessary and are removed. The call platform_set_drvdata(pdev, NULL); at
the end of the function is also removed.

346f1e0772 OMAPDSS: APPLY: remove dssdev from dss_mgr_wait_for_vsync
dss_mgr_wait_for_vsync() uses dssdev->type to find out if the output is
going to VENC, HDMI, or something else. This creates a dependency on
dssdev, which we want to remove. The task is more logically done by
looking at the output to which the overlay manager in question is
connected to.

This patch changes the code to use output->id to find out which kind of
output we use.

Taal panel driver was originally meant to support multiple different DSI
command mode panel models. This never realized, and the multi-panel
support code is lying there unused, making the driver more difficult to
maintain.

This patch removes the multi-panel support from Taal driver.

The role of struct omap_dss_device will change in the future. The exact
details of that are still a bit unclear. However, the less uses of
omap_dss_device we have, the easier the change is in the future.

This patch removes uses of omap_dss_device from dsi.c, where it can be
done easily. Mostly this means passing dsi platform device to functions,
instead of the omap_dss_device.

struct omap_dss_device contains HDMI clock divisors. The idea is that the

However, these divsors are no longer needed, as the omapdss driver can

This patch removes the divisors from omap_dss_device, and their uses

a0d8dde9cb OMAPDSS: panels: keep platform data of all panels in a single header
Structs for platform data of omapdss panels are found in headers in the
'include/video/' path. Board files populate these structs with platform
specific values, and the panel driver uses these to configure the panel.

Currently, each panel has it's own header in the above path. Move all the
omapdss panel platform data structs to a single header omap-panel-data.h.
This is useful because:

- All other omapdss panel drivers will be modified to use platform data. This
would lead to a lot of panel headers usable only by omapdss. A lot of these
platform data structs are trivial, and don't really need a separate header.
- Platform data would be eventually removed, and platform information would be
passed via device tree. Therefore, omapdss panel platform data structs are
temporary, and will be easier to remove if they are all in the same header.
- All board files will have to include the same header to configure a panel's
platform data, that makes the board files more consistent.

118c9a45fd arm-soc: bug fixes for 3.9-rc5
After a quiet set of fixes for 3.9-rc4, a lot of people woke up and sent
urgent fixes for 3.9. I pushed back on a number of them that got
deferred to 3.10, but these are the ones that seemed important.

 Regression in 3.9:

 - Multiple regressions in OMAP2+ clock cleanup
 - SH-Mobile frame buffer bug fix that merged here because of maintainer MIA
 - ux500 prcmu changes broke DT booting
 - MMCI duplicated regulator setup on ux500
 - New ux500 clock driver broke ethernet on snowball
 - Local interrupt driver for mvebu broke ethernet
 - MVEBU GPIO driver did not get set up right on Orion DT
 - incorrect interrupt number on Orion crypto for DT

Long-standing bugs, including candidates for stable:

 - Kirkwood MMC needs to disable invalid card detect pins
 - MV SDIO pinmux was wrong on Mirabox
 - GoFlex Net board file needs to set NAND chip delay
 - MSM timer restart race
 - ep93xx early debug code broke in 3.7
 - i.MX CPU hotplug race
 - Incorrect clock setup for OMAP1 USB
 - Workaround for bad clock setup by some old OMAP4 boot loaders
 - Static I/O mappings on cns3xxx since 3.2
