Since commit 3d5089c426 ("of/address: Add support for 3 address cell
bus"), the DT address functions can handle translating buses with 3
address cells. Replace the custom code with the for_each_of_range()
iterator.
The original code had fallbacks to get "#address-cells"/"#size-cells"
from the bus parent node if they are missing. This is non-standard
behavior, and AFAICT the upstream .dts files never relied on that.

The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate
of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus.
As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they
"temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h
and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include
files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and
replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to
explicitly include the correct includes.

So change the prototype of the remove function to return no value. This
way driver authors are not tempted to assume that passing an error to
the upper layer is a good idea. All drivers are adapted accordingly.

Replace it by a message that mentions the reason for the failure.
Returning zero instead of a negative value has no side effect apart from
suppressing the generic error message.
The first if condition in dprc_remove() can never be true, as this would
prevent successful probing of the device and then .remove wasn't called.

fsl_destroy_mc_io(). However, mc->root_mc_bus_dev is already freed in
fsl_mc_device_remove(). Then reference to mc->root_mc_bus_dev->mc_io
triggers KASAN use-after-free. To avoid the use-after-free, keep the
reference to mc->root_mc_bus_dev->mc_io in a local variable and pass to
fsl_destroy_mc_io().

Here is the set of driver core changes for 5.19-rc1.
Note, I'm not really happy with this pull request as-is, see below for
details, but overall this is all good for everything but a small set of
systems, which we have a fix for already.
Lots of tiny driver core changes and cleanups happened this cycle,
but the two major things were:
- firmware_loader reorganization and additions including the
ability to have XZ compressed firmware images and the ability
for userspace to initiate the firmware load when it needs to,
instead of being always initiated by the kernel. FPGA devices
specifically want this ability to have their firmware changed
over the lifetime of the system boot, and this allows them to
work without having to come up with yet-another-custom-uapi
interface for loading firmware for them.
- physical location support added to sysfs so that devices that
know this information, can tell userspace where they are
located in a common way. Some ACPI devices already support
this today, and more bus types should support this in the
future.
Smaller changes included:
- driver_override api cleanups and fixes
- error path cleanups and fixes
- get_abi script fixes
- deferred probe timeout changes.
It's that last change that I'm the most worried about. It has been
reported to cause boot problems for a number of systems, and I have a
tested patch series that resolves this issue. But I didn't get it
merged into my tree before 5.18-final came out, so it has not gotten any
linux-next testing.
I'll send the fixup patches (there are 2) as a follow-on series to this
pull request if you want to take them directly, _OR_ I can just revert
the probe timeout changes and they can wait for the next -rc1 merge
cycle. Given that the fixes are tested, and pretty simple, I'm leaning
toward that choice. Sorry this all came at the end of the merge window,
I should have resolved this all 2 weeks ago, that's my fault as it was
in the middle of some travel for me.
All have been tested in linux-next for weeks, with no reported issues
other than the above-mentioned boot time outs.

The devices on platform/amba/fsl-mc/PCI buses could be bound to drivers
with the device DMA managed by kernel drivers or user-space applications.
Unfortunately, multiple devices may be placed in the same IOMMU group
because they cannot be isolated from each other. The DMA on these devices
must either be entirely under kernel control or userspace control, never
a mixture. Otherwise the driver integrity is not guaranteed because they
could access each other through the peer-to-peer accesses which by-pass
the IOMMU protection.
This checks and sets the default DMA mode during driver binding, and
cleanups during driver unbinding. In the default mode, the device DMA is
managed by the device driver which handles DMA operations through the
kernel DMA APIs (see Documentation/core-api/dma-api.rst).
For cases where the devices are assigned for userspace control through the
userspace driver framework(i.e. VFIO), the drivers(for example, vfio_pci/
vfio_platfrom etc.) may set a new flag (driver_managed_dma) to skip this
default setting in the assumption that the drivers know what they are
doing with the device DMA.
Calling iommu_device_use_default_domain() before {of,acpi}_dma_configure
is currently a problem. As things stand, the IOMMU driver ignored the
initial iommu_probe_device() call when the device was added, since at
that point it had no fwspec yet. In this situation,
{of,acpi}_iommu_configure() are retriggering iommu_probe_device() after
the IOMMU driver has seen the firmware data via .of_xlate to learn that
it actually responsible for the given device. As the result, before
that gets fixed, iommu_use_default_domain() goes at the end, and calls
arch_teardown_dma_ops() if it fails.

The open/reset/close commands format is similar for all objects.
Currently there are multiple implementations for these commands
scattered through various drivers. The code is cavsi-identical.
Create a generic implementation for the open/reset/close commands.
One of the consumer will be the VFIO driver which needs to
be able to reset a device.

Lots of different driver subsystems are being updated in here, notably:
- mhi subsystem update
- fpga subsystem update
- coresight/hwtracing subsystem update
- interconnect subsystem update
- nvmem subsystem update
- parport drivers update
- phy subsystem update
- soundwire subsystem update
and there are some other char/misc drivers being updated as well:
- binder driver additions
- new misc drivers
- lkdtm driver updates
- mei driver updates
- sram driver updates
- other minor driver updates.
Note, there are no habanna labs driver updates in this pull request,

Some versions of the MC firmware wrongly report 0 for register base
address of the DPMCP associated with child DPRC objects thus rendering
them unusable. This is particularly troublesome in ACPI boot scenarios
where the legacy way of extracting this base address from the device
tree does not apply.
Given that DPMCPs share the same base address, workaround this by using
the base address extracted from the root DPRC container.

If the endpoint of a device is not yet probed on the bus, force
a rescan of the devices and retry to get a reference to the
endpoint device. If the device is still not found then we assume
it's in a different isolation context (container/DPRC) thus
unavailable and return a permission error.

Add a bus notifier to pause the MC firmware as soon as its device
gets discovered. This is needed as the firmware is live thus, as soon
as the SMMU gets probed and enabled, it will crash the firmware due to
SMMU context faults. The firmware will be resumed at probe time, after
the required IOMMU setup was completed.

Here is the large set of char/misc/whatever driver subsystem updates for
5.12-rc1. Over time it seems like this tree is collecting more and more
tiny driver subsystems in one place, making it easier for those
maintainers, which is why this is getting larger.
Included in here are:
- coresight driver updates
- habannalabs driver updates
- virtual acrn driver addition (proper acks from the x86
maintainers)
- broadcom misc driver addition
- speakup driver updates
- soundwire driver updates
- fpga driver updates
- amba driver updates
- mei driver updates
- vfio driver updates
- greybus driver updates
- nvmeem driver updates
- phy driver updates
- mhi driver updates
- interconnect driver udpates
- fsl-mc bus driver updates
- random driver fix
- some small misc driver updates (rtsx, pvpanic, etc.)
All of these have been in linux-next for a while, with the only reported
issue being a merge conflict in include/linux/mod_devicetable.h that you
will hit in your tree due to the dfl_device_id addition from the fpga
subsystem in here. The resolution should be simple.
