One way to fix these warnings is to add additional braces like Clang

maintainers, who just prefer memset as it is unambiguous, doesn't
depend on a particular compiler version, and properly initializes all
subobjects [1][2]. Do that here so there are no more warnings.

The virtio-rng driver uses a completion called have_data to wait for a
virtio read to be fulfilled by the hypervisor. The completion is reset
before placing a buffer on the virtio queue and completed by the virtio
callback once data has been written into the buffer.
Prior to this commit, the driver called init_completion on this
completion both during probe as well as when registering virtio buffers
as part of a hwrng read operation. The second of these init_completion
calls should instead be reinit_completion because the have_data
completion has already been inited by probe. As described in
Documentation/scheduler/completion.txt, "Calling init_completion() twice
on the same completion object is most likely a bug".
This bug was present in the initial implementation of virtio-rng in
f7f510ec19 ("virtio: An entropy device, as suggested by hpa"). Back
then the have_data completion was a single static completion rather than
a member of one of potentially multiple virtrng_info structs as
implemented later by 08e53fbdb8 ("virtio-rng: support multiple
virtio-rng devices"). The original driver incorrectly used
init_completion rather than INIT_COMPLETION to reset have_data during
read.
Tested by running `head -c48 /dev/random | hexdump` within crosvm, the
Chrome OS virtual machine monitor, and confirming that the virtio-rng
driver successfully produces random bytes from the host.

quality field is currently documented as being 'per mill'. In fact the
math involved is:
add_hwgenerator_randomness((void *)rng_fillbuf, rc,
rc * current_quality * 8 >> 10);
thus the actual definition is "bits of entropy per 1024 bits of input".
The current documentation seems to have confused multiple people
in the past, let's fix the documentation to match code.
An alternative is to change core to match driver expectations, replacing
rc * current_quality * 8 >> 10
with
rc * current_quality / 1000
but that has performance costs, so probably isn't a good option.

Here is the bit set of char/misc drivers for 4.19-rc1
There is a lot here, much more than normal, seems like everyone is
writing new driver subsystems these days... Anyway, major things here
are:
- new FSI driver subsystem, yet-another-powerpc low-level
hardware bus
- gnss, finally an in-kernel GPS subsystem to try to tame all of
the crazy out-of-tree drivers that have been floating around
for years, combined with some really hacky userspace
implementations. This is only for GNSS receivers, but you
have to start somewhere, and this is great to see.
Other than that, there are new slimbus drivers, new coresight drivers,
new fpga drivers, and loads of DT bindings for all of these and existing
drivers.
Full details of everything is in the shortlog.
All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported

enable_best_rng() is used in hwrng_unregister() to switch away from the
currently active RNG, if that is the one currently being removed.
However enable_best_rng() might fail, if the next RNG's init routine
fails. In that case enable_best_rng() will return an error code and
the currently active RNG will remain active.
After unregistering this might lead to crashes due to use-after-free.
Fix this by dropping the currently active RNG, if enable_best_rng()
failed. This will result in no RNG to be active, if the next-best
one failed to initialize.

Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
- file had no licensing information it it.
- file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
- file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
lines of source
- File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 11139
and resulted in the first patch in this series.
If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH
Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|-------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930
and resulted in the second patch in this series.
- if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one
of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if
any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in
it (per prior point). Results summary:
SPDX license identifier # files
---------------------------------------------------|------
GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270
GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17
LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15
GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14
((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5
LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4
LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3
((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1
and that resulted in the third patch in this series.
- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

Replace existing hw_ranndom/exynos-rng driver with a new, reworked one.
This is a driver for pseudo random number generator block which on
Exynos4 chipsets must be seeded with some value. On newer Exynos5420
chipsets it might seed itself from true random number generator block
but this is not implemented yet.
New driver is a complete rework to use the crypto ALGAPI instead of
hw_random API. Rationale for the change:
1. hw_random interface is for true RNG devices.
2. The old driver was seeding itself with jiffies which is not a
reliable source for randomness.
3. Device generates five random 32-bit numbers in each pass but old
driver was returning only one 32-bit number thus its performance was
reduced.
Compatibility with DeviceTree bindings is preserved.
New driver does not use runtime power management but manually enables
and disables the clock when needed. This is preferred approach because
using runtime PM just to toggle clock is huge overhead.
Another difference is reseeding itself with generated random data
periodically and during resuming from system suspend (previously driver
was re-seeding itself again with jiffies).

Some hardware RNGs provide a single register for obtaining random data.
Instead of signaling when new data is available, the reader must wait a
fixed amount of time between reads for new data to be generated.
timeriomem_rng implements this scheme with the period specified in
platform data or device tree. While the period is specified in
microseconds, the implementation used a standard timer which has a
minimum delay of 1 jiffie and caused a significant bottleneck for
devices that can update at 1us. By switching to an hrtimer, 1us periods
now only delay at most 2us per read.

Currently, the code that takes a reference to the clock and enables it
is located inside of_get_omap_rng_device_details(), called only when
probing through the Device Tree.
However, there is nothing that makes this clock logic dependent on the
Device Tree, so it makes more sense to have it in omap_rng_probe()
directly.
Moreover, we make sure to bail out if we can't enable the clock. Indeed,
while the clock is optional, if a clock is present, we really want to
succeed in enabling it. And we fix the error message to fit on one line,
so that it is grep-friendly.

After commit e9afc74629 ("hwrng: geode - Use linux/io.h instead of
asm/io.h") the geode-rng driver uses devres with pci_dev->dev to keep
track of resources, but does not actually register a PCI driver. This
results in the following issues:
1. The driver leaks memory because the driver does not attach to a
device. The driver only uses the PCI device as a reference. devm_*()
functions will release resources on driver detach, which the geode-rng
driver will never do. As a result,
2. The driver cannot be reloaded because there is always a use of the
ioport and region after the first load of the driver.

After commit 31b2a73c9c ("hwrng: amd - Migrate to managed API"), the
amd-rng driver uses devres with pci_dev->dev to keep track of resources,
but does not actually register a PCI driver. This results in the
following issues:
1. The message
WARNING: CPU: 2 PID: 621 at drivers/base/dd.c:349 driver_probe_device+0x38c
is output when the i2c_amd756 driver loads and attempts to register a PCI
driver. The PCI & device subsystems assume that no resources have been
registered for the device, and the WARN_ON() triggers since amd-rng has
already do so.
2. The driver leaks memory because the driver does not attach to a
device. The driver only uses the PCI device as a reference. devm_*()
functions will release resources on driver detach, which the amd-rng
driver will never do. As a result,
3. The driver cannot be reloaded because there is always a use of the
ioport and region after the first load of the driver.

The INTMASK_REG register does not exist on EIP76. Due to this, the call:
omap_rng_write(priv, RNG_INTMASK_REG, RNG_SHUTDOWN_OFLO_MASK);
ends up, through the reg_map_eip76[] array, in accessing the register at
offset 0, which is the RNG_OUTPUT_0_REG. This by itself doesn't cause
any problem, but clearly doesn't enable the interrupt as it was
expected.
On EIP76, the register that allows to enable the interrupt is
RNG_CONTROL_REG. And just like RNG_INTMASK_REG, it's bit 1 of this
register that allows to enable the shutdown_oflo interrupt.

Commit 383212425c ("hwrng: omap - Add device variant for SafeXcel
IP-76 found in Armada 8K") added support for the SafeXcel IP-76 variant
of the IP. This modification included getting a reference and enabling a
clock. Unfortunately, this was done *after* writing to the
RNG_INTMASK_REG register. This generally works fine when the driver is
built-in because the clock might have been left enabled by the
bootloader, but fails short when the driver is built as a module: it
causes a system hang because a register is being accessed while the
clock is not enabled.
This commit fixes that by making the register access *after* enabling
the clock.
This issue was found by the kernelci.org testing effort.

Systems containing the Cavium HW RNG may have one device per NUMA
node. A typical configuration is a 2-node NUMA system, which results
in 2 RNG devices. The hwrng subsystem refuses (and rightly so) to
register more than one device with he same name, so we get failure
messages on these systems.
Make the hwrng name unique by including the underlying device name.
Also remove spaces from the name to make it possible to switch devices
via the sysfs knobs.

The omap-rng driver currently assumes that there will only ever be a
single instance of an RNG device. For this reason, there is a statically
allocated struct hwrng, with a fixed name. However, registering two
struct hwrng with the same isn't accepted by the RNG framework, so we
need to switch to a dynamically allocated struct hwrng, each using a
different name. Then, we define the name of this hwrng to "dev_name(dev)",
so the name of the data structure is unique per device.

The ".data_present" and ".data_read" operations are marked as OBSOLETE
in the hwrng API. We have to use the ".read" operation instead. It makes
the driver simpler and moves the busy loop, that waits until enough data
is generated, to the read function. We simplify this step by only
checking the status of the engine, if there is data, we copy the data to
the output buffer and the amout of copied data is returned to the caller,
otherwise zero is returned. The hwrng core will re-call the read operation
as many times as required until enough data has been copied.

pm_runtime_get_sync does return a error value that must be checked for
error conditions, else, due to various reasons, the device maynot be
enabled and the system will crash due to lack of clock to the hardware
module.

The driver uses pm_runtime_put_noidle() after initialization so the
device might remain in active state if the core does not read from it
(the read callback contains regular runtime put). The put_noidle() was
chosen probably to avoid unneeded suspend and resume cycle after the
initialization.
However for this purpose autosuspend is enabled so it is safe to runtime
put just after the initialization.

The exynos random driver uses #ifdef to check for CONFIG_PM, but
then uses SIMPLE_DEV_PM_OPS, which leaves the references out when
CONFIG_PM_SLEEP is not defined, so we get a warning with

Hardware random number quality is measured from 0 (no entropy) to 1024
(perfect entropy). Allow hardware devices to assert the full range by
truncating the device-provided value at 1024 instead of 1023.

omap4_rng_init() checks bit 10 of the RNG_CONFIG_REG to determine whether
the RNG is already running before performing any initiliasation. This is not
the correct register to check, as the enable bit is in RNG_CONFIG_CONTROL.
Read from RNG_CONTROL_REG instead.

In omap4_rng_init(), a check of bit 10 of the RNG_CONFIG_REG is done to determine
whether the RNG is running. This is suspicious firstly due to the use of
RNG_CONTROL_ENABLE_TRNG_MASK and secondly because the same mask is written to
RNG_CONTROL_REG after configuration of the FROs. Similar suspicious logic is
repeated in omap4_rng_cleanup() when RNG_CONTROL_REG masked with
RNG_CONTROL_ENABLE_TRNG_MASK is read, the same mask bit is cleared, and then
written to RNG_CONFIG_REG. Unless the TRNG is enabled with one bit in RNG_CONTROL
and disabled with another in RNG_CONFIG and these bits are mirrored in some way,
I believe that the TRNG is not really shutting off.
Apart from the strange logic, I have reason to suspect that the OMAP4 related
code in this driver is driving an Inside Secure IP hardware RNG and strongly
suspect that bit 10 of RNG_CONFIG_REG is one of the bits configuring the
sampling rate of the FROs. This option is by default set to 0 and is not being
set anywhere in omap-rng.c. Reading this bit during omap4_rng_init() will
always return 0. It will remain 0 because ~(value of TRNG_MASK in control) will
always be 0, because the TRNG is never shut off. This is of course presuming
that the OMAP4 features the Inside Secure IP.
I'm interested in knowing what the guys at TI think about this, as only they
can confirm or deny the detailed structure of these registers.

Instead of using static hwrng structure that is reused between
binds/unbinds of the device let's embed it into driver's private
structure that we allocate. This way we are guaranteed not to stumble
onto something left from previous bind attempt.

This change converts bcm63xx-rng to use devm* API for managing all
resources, which allows us to dispense with the rest of error handling
path and remove() function. Also we combine hwern and driver-private
data into a single allocation, use clk_prepare_enable() instead
of "naked" clk_enable() and move clock enabling/disabling into hwrnd
inti(0 and cleanup() methods so the clock stays off until rng is
used.

Instead of using #ifdefs let's mark suspend and resume methods as
__maybe_unused which will suppress compiler warnings about them being
unused and provide better compile coverage.
Because SIMPLE_DEV_PM_OPS() produces an empty omap_rng_pm structure in
case of !CONFIG_PM_SLEEP neither omap_rng_suspend nor omap_rng_resume
will end up being referenced and the change will not result in
increasing image size.

Even if bus is not hot-pluggable, the devices can be unbound from the
driver via sysfs, so we should not be using __exit annotations on
remove() methods. The only exception is drivers registered with
platform_driver_probe() which specifically disables sysfs bind/unbind
attributes.
Similarly probe() methods should not be marked __init unless
platform_driver_probe() is used.

arch/mips/include/asm/mach-bcm63xx/bcm63xx_regs.h contains the register

We always do hwrng_init in set_current_rng. In fact, our current
reference count system relies on this. So make this explicit by
moving hwrng_init into set_current_rng.

Rather than having callers of set_current_rng call drop_current_rng,
we can do it directly in set_current_rng.

Currently we only register the device when a valid RNG is added.
However the way it's done is buggy because we test whether there
is a current RNG to determine whether we need to register. As
the current RNG may be missing due to a reinitialisation error
this can lead to a reregistration of the device.
As the device already has to handle a NULL current RNG anyway,
let's just register the device always and remove the complexity.

The kref solution is still buggy because we were only focusing
on the register/unregister race. The same race affects the
setting of current_rng through sysfs.
This patch fixes it by using kref_get_unless_zero.

reading from a hwrng when it's unregistered. Add a wait for zero
in the hwrng_unregister path.

current_rng holds one reference, and we bump it every time we want
to do a read from it.
This means we only hold the rng_mutex to grab or drop a reference,
so accessing /sys/devices/virtual/misc/hw_random/rng_current doesn't
block on read of /dev/hwrng.
Using a kref is overkill (we're always under the rng_mutex), but
a standard pattern.
This also solves the problem that the hwrng_fillfn thread was
accessing current_rng without a lock, which could change (eg. to NULL)
underneath it.

In next patch, we use reference counting for each struct hwrng,
changing reference count also needs to take mutex_lock. Before
releasing the lock, if we try to stop a kthread that waits to
take the lock to reduce the referencing count, deadlock will
occur.

There's currently a big lock around everything, and it means that we
can't query sysfs (eg /sys/devices/virtual/misc/hw_random/rng_current)
while the rng is reading. This is a real problem when the rng is slow,
or blocked (eg. virtio_rng with qemu's default /dev/random backend)
This doesn't help (it leaves the current lock untouched), just adds a
lock to protect the read function and the static buffers, in preparation
for transition.
