sparc64: Set %l4 properly on trap return after handling signals.
If we did some signal processing, we have to reload the pt_regs tstate register because it's value may have changed. In doing so we also have to extract the %pil value contained in there anre load that into %l4. This value is at bit 20 and thus needs to be shifted down before we later write it into the %pil register. Most of the time this is harmless as we are returning to userspace and the %pil is zero for that case. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net> |

sparc: Fix single-pcr perf event counter management.
It is important to clear the hw->state value for non-stopped events when they are added into the PMU. Otherwise when the event is scheduled out, we won't read the counter because HES_UPTODATE is still set. This breaks 'perf stat' and similar use cases, causing all the events to show zero. This worked for multi-pcr because we make explicit sparc_pmu_start() calls in calculate_multiple_pcrs(). calculate_single_pcr() doesn't do this because the idea there is to accumulate all of the counter settings into the single pcr value. So we have to add explicit hw->state handling there. Like x86, we use the PERF_HES_ARCH bit to track truly stopped events so that we don't accidently start them on a reload. Related to all of this, sparc_pmu_start() is missing a userpage update so add it. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net> |

Code that was added to force gcc not to inline any function that isn't explicitly declared as inline uncovered that init_tick_ops() isn't marked as "__init". bpf/error-inject/kprobes: Clear current_kprobe and enable preempt in kprobe
Clear current_kprobe and enable preemption in kprobe even if pre_handler returns !0. This simplifies function override using kprobes. Jprobe used to require to keep the preemption disabled and keep current_kprobe until it returned to original function entry. For this reason kprobe_int3_handler() and similar arch dependent kprobe handers checks pre_handler result and exit without enabling preemption if the result is !0. After removing the jprobe, Kprobes does not need to keep preempt disabled even if user handler returns !0 anymore. But since the function override handler in error-inject and bpf is also returns !0 if it overrides a function, to balancing the preempt count, it enables preemption and reset current kprobe by itself. That is a bad design that is very buggy. This fixes such unbalanced preempt-count and current_kprobes setting in kprobes, bpf and error-inject. Note: for powerpc and x86, this removes all preempt_disable from kprobe_ftrace_handler because ftrace callbacks are called under preempt disabled. treewide: kzalloc() -> kcalloc()
The kzalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kcalloc(). This patch replaces cases of: kzalloc(a * b, gfp) with: kcalloc(a * b, gfp) as well as handling cases of: kzalloc(a * b * c, gfp) with: kzalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp) as it's slightly less ugly than: kzalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp) This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like: kzalloc(4 * 1024, gfp) though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion. Merge branch 'siginfo-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ebiederm/user-namespace
Pull siginfo updates from Eric Biederman: "This set of changes close the known issues with setting si_code to an invalid value, and with not fully initializing struct siginfo. There remains work to do on nds32, arc, unicore32, powerpc, arm, arm64, ia64 and x86 to get the code that generates siginfo into a simpler and more maintainable state. Most of that work involves refactoring the signal handling code and thus careful code review. Also not included is the work to shrink the in kernel version of struct siginfo. That depends on getting the number of places that directly manipulate struct siginfo under control, as it requires the introduction of struct kernel_siginfo for the in kernel things. Overall this set of changes looks like it is making good progress, and with a little luck I will be wrapping up the siginfo work next development cycle" * 'siginfo-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ebiederm/user-namespace: (46 commits) signal/sh: Stop gcc warning about an impossible case in do_divide_error signal/mips: Report FPE_FLTUNK for undiagnosed floating point exceptions signal/um: More carefully relay signals in relay_signal. signal: Extend siginfo_layout with SIL_FAULT_{MCEERR|BNDERR|PKUERR} signal: Remove unncessary #ifdef SEGV_PKUERR in 32bit compat code signal/signalfd: Add support for SIGSYS signal/signalfd: Remove __put_user from signalfd_copyinfo signal/xtensa: Use force_sig_fault where appropriate signal/xtensa: Consistenly use SIGBUS in do_unaligned_user signal/um: Use force_sig_fault where appropriate signal/sparc: Use force_sig_fault where appropriate signal/sparc: Use send_sig_fault where appropriate signal/sh: Use force_sig_fault where appropriate signal/s390: Use force_sig_fault where appropriate signal/riscv: Replace do_trap_siginfo with force_sig_fault signal/riscv: Use force_sig_fault where appropriate signal/parisc: Use force_sig_fault where appropriate signal/parisc: Use force_sig_mceerr where appropriate signal/openrisc: Use force_sig_fault where appropriate signal/nios2: Use force_sig_fault where appropriate ... |

dma-debug: move initialization to common code
Most mainstream architectures are using 65536 entries, so lets stick to that. If someone is really desperate to override it that can still be done through <asm/dma-mapping.h>, but I'd rather see a really good rationale for that. dma_debug_init is now called as a core_initcall, which for many architectures means much earlier, and provides dma-debug functionality earlier in the boot process. This should be safe as it only relies on the memory allocator already being available. signal/sparc: Use force_sig_fault where appropriate
Filling in struct siginfo before calling force_sig_info a tedious and error prone process, where once in a great while the wrong fields are filled out, and siginfo has been inconsistently cleared. Simplify this process by using the helper force_sig_fault. Which takes as a parameters all of the information it needs, ensures all of the fiddly bits of filling in struct siginfo are done properly and then calls force_sig_info. signal: Ensure every siginfo we send has all bits initialized
Call clear_siginfo to ensure every stack allocated siginfo is properly initialized before being passed to the signal sending functions. Note: It is not safe to depend on C initializers to initialize struct siginfo on the stack because C is allowed to skip holes when initializing a structure. The initialization of struct siginfo in tracehook_report_syscall_exit was moved from the helper user_single_step_siginfo into tracehook_report_syscall_exit itself, to make it clear that the local variable siginfo gets fully initialized. In a few cases the scope of struct siginfo has been reduced to make it clear that siginfo siginfo is not used on other paths in the function in which it is declared. Instances of using memset to initialize siginfo have been replaced with calls clear_siginfo for clarity. Signed-off-by: "Eric W. Biederman" <ebiederm@xmission.com> |

sparc: fix compat siginfo ABI regression
Starting with commit v4.14-rc1~60^2^2~1, a SIGFPE signal sent via kill results to wrong values in si_pid and si_uid fields of compat siginfo_t. This happens due to FPE_FIXME being defined to 0 for sparc, and at the same time siginfo_layout() introduced by the same commit returns SIL_FAULT for SIGFPE if si_code == SI_USER and FPE_FIXME is defined to 0. Fix this regression by removing FPE_FIXME macro and changing all its users to assign FPE_FLTUNK to si_code instead of FPE_FIXME. Note that FPE_FLTUNK is a new macro introduced by commit |

sparc/PCI: Request legacy VGA framebuffer only for VGA devices
Previously we unconditionally requested the legacy VGA framebuffer (bus address 0xa0000-0xbffff) before we even know what PCI devices are present, in these paths: pci_fire_pbm_init, schizo_pbm_init, pci_sun4v_pbm_init, psycho_pbm_init_common pci_determine_mem_io_space pci_register_legacy_regions p->start = mem_res->start + 0xa0000 request_resource(mem_res, p) # claim VGA framebuffer pci_scan_one_pbm pci_of_scan_bus # scan DT for PCI devices pci_claim_bus_resources # claim PCI device BARs If we found a PCI device with a BAR or bridge window that overlapped the framebuffer area, we complained about not being able to claim the BAR, e.g., pci 0000:00:01.0: can't claim BAR 8 [mem 0x1ff00000000-0x1ffbfffffff]: address conflict with Video RAM area [??? 0x1ff000a0000-0x1ff000bffff flags 0x80000000] pci 0000:02:01.0: can't claim BAR 8 [mem 0x1ff00100000-0x1ff028fffff]: no compatible bridge window pci 0000:03:0f.0: can't claim BAR 8 [mem 0x1ff00100000-0x1ff028fffff]: no compatible bridge window pci 0000:04:04.0: can't claim BAR 1 [mem 0x1ff02808000-0x1ff02808fff]: no compatible bridge window This may make the conflicting device unusable because we try not to enable devices that have unassigned or conflicting BARs, e.g., qla1280 0000:04:04.0: can't ioremap BAR 1: [mem size 0x00001000] qla1280: Unable to map I/O memory If there is no VGA device in the same PCI segment, there's no reason to reserve the framebuffer and there's no conflict. If there *is* a VGA device in the same segment, both the VGA device and the device with an overlapping BAR may respond to the framebuffer addresses, which may cause bus errors. Request the legacy framebuffer area only when we actually find a VGA device. The fact that VGA devices use the legacy framebuffer even though it's not reported in a BAR is not sparc-specific, so the reservation of that area could be made more generic in the PCI core eventually. Note that on some systems, e.g., Blade 100, we still report a conflict between an ISA bridge (00:07.0) and a VGA device (00:13.0): pci_bus 0000:00: root bus resource [mem 0x1ff00000000-0x1ffffffffff] (bus address [0x00000000-0xffffffff]) pci 0000:00:07.0: reg 0x14: [mem 0x1ff00000000-0x1ff000fffff] pci 0000:00:13.0: can't claim VGA legacy [mem 0x1ff000a0000-0x1ff000bffff]: address conflict with 0000:00:07.0 [mem 0x1ff00000000-0x1ff000fffff] This is probably harmless, but if the VGA device and something behind the ISA bridge both responded to reads of the framebuffer, it would cause a bus error. exec: pass stack rlimit into mm layout functions
Patch series "exec: Pin stack limit during exec". Attempts to solve problems with the stack limit changing during exec continue to be frustrated[1][2]. In addition to the specific issues around the Stack Clash family of flaws, Andy Lutomirski pointed out[3] other places during exec where the stack limit is used and is assumed to be unchanging. Given the many places it gets used and the fact that it can be manipulated/raced via setrlimit() and prlimit(), I think the only way to handle this is to move away from the "current" view of the stack limit and instead attach it to the bprm, and plumb this down into the functions that need to know the stack limits. This series implements the approach. [1] |

headers: untangle kmemleak.h from mm.h
Currently <linux/slab.h> #includes <linux/kmemleak.h> for no obvious reason. It looks like it's only a convenience, so remove kmemleak.h from slab.h and add <linux/kmemleak.h> to any users of kmemleak_* that don't already #include it. Also remove <linux/kmemleak.h> from source files that do not use it. This is tested on i386 allmodconfig and x86_64 allmodconfig. It would be good to run it through the 0day bot for other $ARCHes. I have neither the horsepower nor the storage space for the other $ARCHes. Update: This patch has been extensively build-tested by both the 0day bot & kisskb/ozlabs build farms. Both of them reported 2 build failures for which patches are included here (in v2). [ slab.h is the second most used header file after module.h; kernel.h is right there with slab.h. There could be some minor error in the counting due to some #includes having comments after them and I didn't combine all of those. ] [akpm@linux-foundation.org: security/keys/big_key.c needs vmalloc.h, per sfr] Link: http://lkml.kernel.org/r/e4309f98-3749-93e1-4bb7-d9501a39d015@infradead.org Link: http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/kisskb/head/13396/ Signed-off-by: Randy Dunlap <rdunlap@infradead.org> Reviewed-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@kernel.org> Reported-by: Michael Ellerman <mpe@ellerman.id.au> [2 build failures] Reported-by: Fengguang Wu <fengguang.wu@intel.com> [2 build failures] Reviewed-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Cc: Wei Yongjun <weiyongjun1@huawei.com> Cc: Luis R. Merge branch 'syscalls-next' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/brodo/linux
Pull removal of in-kernel calls to syscalls from Dominik Brodowski: "System calls are interaction points between userspace and the kernel. Therefore, system call functions such as sys_xyzzy() or compat_sys_xyzzy() should only be called from userspace via the syscall table, but not from elsewhere in the kernel. At least on 64-bit x86, it will likely be a hard requirement from v4.17 onwards to not call system call functions in the kernel: It is better to use use a different calling convention for system calls there, where struct pt_regs is decoded on-the-fly in a syscall wrapper which then hands processing over to the actual syscall function. This means that only those parameters which are actually needed for a specific syscall are passed on during syscall entry, instead of filling in six CPU registers with random user space content all the time (which may cause serious trouble down the call chain). Those x86-specific patches will be pushed through the x86 tree in the near future. Moreover, rules on how data may be accessed may differ between kernel data and user data. This is another reason why calling sys_xyzzy() is generally a bad idea, and -- at most -- acceptable in arch-specific code. This patchset removes all in-kernel calls to syscall functions in the kernel with the exception of arch/. On top of this, it cleans up the three places where many syscalls are referenced or prototyped, namely kernel/sys_ni.c, include/linux/syscalls.h and include/linux/compat.h" * 'syscalls-next' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/brodo/linux: (109 commits) bpf: whitelist all syscalls for error injection kernel/sys_ni: remove {sys_,sys_compat} from cond_syscall definitions kernel/sys_ni: sort cond_syscall() entries syscalls/x86: auto-create compat_sys_*() prototypes syscalls: sort syscall prototypes in include/linux/compat.h net: remove compat_sys_*() prototypes from net/compat.h syscalls: sort syscall prototypes in include/linux/syscalls.h kexec: move sys_kexec_load() prototype to syscalls.h x86/sigreturn: use SYSCALL_DEFINE0 x86: fix sys_sigreturn() return type to be long, not unsigned long x86/ioport: add ksys_ioperm() helper; remove in-kernel calls to sys_ioperm() mm: add ksys_readahead() helper; remove in-kernel calls to sys_readahead() mm: add ksys_mmap_pgoff() helper; remove in-kernel calls to sys_mmap_pgoff() mm: add ksys_fadvise64_64() helper; remove in-kernel call to sys_fadvise64_64() fs: add ksys_fallocate() wrapper; remove in-kernel calls to sys_fallocate() fs: add ksys_p{read,write}64() helpers; remove in-kernel calls to syscalls fs: add ksys_truncate() wrapper; remove in-kernel calls to sys_truncate() fs: add ksys_sync_file_range helper(); remove in-kernel calls to syscall kernel: add ksys_setsid() helper; remove in-kernel call to sys_setsid() kernel: add ksys_unshare() helper; remove in-kernel calls to sys_unshare() ... |

mm: add ksys_readahead() helper; remove in-kernel calls to sys_readahead()
Using this helper allows us to avoid the in-kernel calls to the sys_readahead() syscall. The ksys_ prefix denotes that this function is meant as a drop-in replacement for the syscall. In particular, it uses the same calling convention as sys_readahead(). This patch is part of a series which removes in-kernel calls to syscalls. On this basis, the syscall entry path can be streamlined. For details, see http://lkml.kernel.org/r/20180325162527.GA17492@light.dominikbrodowski.net Cc: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Cc: linux-mm@kvack.org Signed-off-by: Dominik Brodowski <linux@dominikbrodowski.net> |

mm: add ksys_mmap_pgoff() helper; remove in-kernel calls to sys_mmap_pgoff()
Using this helper allows us to avoid the in-kernel calls to the sys_mmap_pgoff() syscall. The ksys_ prefix denotes that this function is meant as a drop-in replacement for the syscall. In particular, it uses the same calling convention as sys_mmap_pgoff(). This patch is part of a series which removes in-kernel calls to syscalls. On this basis, the syscall entry path can be streamlined. mm: add ksys_fadvise64_64() helper; remove in-kernel call to sys_fadvise64_64()
Using the ksys_fadvise64_64() helper allows us to avoid the in-kernel calls to the sys_fadvise64_64() syscall. The ksys_ prefix denotes that this function is meant as a drop-in replacement for the syscall. In particular, it uses the same calling convention as ksys_fadvise64_64(). Some compat stubs called sys_fadvise64(), which then just passed through the arguments to sys_fadvise64_64(). Get rid of this indirection, and call ksys_fadvise64_64() directly. This patch is part of a series which removes in-kernel calls to syscalls. On this basis, the syscall entry path can be streamlined.
