The normal PCM operations are already blocked during the card power
off state in the PCM common ioctl handler, but the release isn't
covered. As the PCM stream release may also access the hardware,
let's block the release until the card power turns on.

Long long time ago, before the proper PM framework was introduced, it
was still possible to reach SNDRV_CTL_IOCTL_POWER ioctl during the
power off state. This ioctl existed as a main control for the suspend
resume state in the past, but the feature was already dropped along
with the standard PM framework. Now the read part,
SNDRV_IOCTL_POWER_STATE ioctl, returns practically always D0, and we
can do some minor optimization there.

Although the power state check is performed in various places (e.g. at
the entrance of quite a few ioctls), there can be still some pending
tasks that already went into the ioctl handler or other ops, and those
may access the hardware even after the power state check. For
example, kcontrol access ioctl paths that call info/get/put callbacks
may update the hardware registers. If a system wants to assure the
free from such hw access (like the case of PCI rescan feature we're
going to implement in future), this situation must be avoided, and we
have to sync such in-flight tasks finishing beforehand.
For that purpose, this patch introduces a few new things in core code:
- A refcount, power_ref, and a wait queue, power_ref_sleep, to the
card object
- A few new helpers, snd_power_ref(), snd_power_unref(),
snd_power_ref_and_wait(), and snd_power_sync_ref()
In the code paths that call kctl info/read/write/tlv ops, we check the
power state with the newly introduced snd_power_ref_and_wait(). This
function also takes the card.power_ref refcount for tracking this
in-flight task. Once after the access finishes, snd_power_unref() is
called to released the refcount in return. So the driver can sync via
snd_power_sync_ref() assuring that all in-flight tasks have been
finished.
As of this patch, snd_power_sync_ref() is called only at
snd_card_disconnect(), but it'll be used in other places in future.
Note that atomic_t is used for power_ref intentionally instead of
refcount_t. It's because of the design of refcount_t type; refcount_t
cannot be zero-based, and it cannot do dec_and_test() call for
multiple times, hence it's not suitable for our purpose.
Also, this patch changes snd_power_wait() to accept only
SNDRV_CTL_POWER_D0, which is the only value that makes sense.
In later patch, the snd_power_wait() calls will be cleaned up.

This commit adds a new framing mode that frames all MIDI data into
32-byte frames with a timestamp.
The main benefit is that we can get accurate timestamps even if
userspace wakeup and processing is not immediate.
Testing on a Celeron N3150 with this mode has a max jitter of 2.8 ms,
compared to the in-kernel seq implementation which has a max jitter
of 5 ms during idle and much worse when running scheduler stress tests
in parallel.

We've got a report about the possible race in the user control element
counts (card->user_ctl_count), and it was confirmed that the race
wasn't serious in the old code up to 5.12. There, the value
modification itself was exclusive and protected via a write semaphore,
hence it's at most concurrent reads and evaluations before the
increment. Since it's only about the soft-limit to avoid the
exhausting memory usage, one-off isn't a big problem at all.
Meanwhile, the relevant code has been largely modified recently, and
now card->user_ctl_count was replaced with card->user_ctl_alloc_size,
and a few more places were added to access this field. And, in this
new code, it turned out to be more serious: the modifications are
scattered in various places, and a few of them are without protection.
It implies that it may lead to an inconsistent value by racy
accesses.
For addressing it, this patch extends the range covered by the
card->controls_rwsem write lock at snd_ctl_elem_add() so that the all
code paths that modify and refer to card->user_ctl_alloc_size are
protected by the rwsem properly.
The patch adds also comments in a couple of functions to indicate that
they are under the rwsem lock.

ALSA control interface allows users to add arbitrary control elements
(called "user controls" or "user elements"), and its resource usage is
limited just by the max number of control sets (currently 32). This
limit, however, is quite loose: each allocation of control set may
have 1028 elements, and each element may have up to 512 bytes (ILP32) or
1024 bytes (LP64) of value data. Moreover, each control set may contain
the enum strings and TLV data, which can be up to 64kB and 128kB,
respectively. Totally, the whole memory consumption may go over 38MB --
it's quite large, and we'd rather like to reduce the size.
OTOH, there have been other requests even to increase the max number
of user elements; e.g. ALSA firewire stack require the more user
controls, hence we want to raise the bar, too.
For satisfying both requirements, this patch changes the management of
user controls: instead of setting the upper limit of the number of
user controls, we check the actual memory allocation size and set the
upper limit of the total allocation in bytes. As long as the memory
consumption stays below the limit, more user controls are allowed than
the current limit 32. At the same time, we set the lower limit (8MB)
as default than the current theoretical limit, in order to lower the
risk of DoS.
As a compromise for lowering the default limit, now the actual memory
limit is defined as a module option, 'max_user_ctl_alloc_size', so that
user can increase/decrease the limit if really needed, too.

This patchset tries to resolve the diversity in the audio LED
control among the ALSA drivers. A new control layer registration
is introduced which allows to run additional operations on
top of the elementary ALSA sound controls.
A new control access group (three bits in the access flags)
was introduced to carry the LED group information for
the sound controls. The low-level sound drivers can just
mark those controls using this access group. This information
is not exported to the user space, but user space can
manage the LED sound control associations through sysfs
(last patch) per Mark's request. It makes things fully
configurable in the kernel and user space (UCM).
The actual state ('route') evaluation is really easy
(the minimal value check for all channels / controls / cards).
If there's more complicated logic for a given hardware,
the card driver may eventually export a new read-only
sound control for the LED group and do the logic itself.
The new LED trigger control code is completely separated
and possibly optional (there's no symbol dependency).
The full code separation allows eventually to move this
LED trigger control to the user space in future.
Actually it replaces the already present functionality
in the kernel space (HDA drivers) and allows a quick adoption
for the recent hardware (ASoC codecs including SoundWire).

The recent laptops have usually two LEDs assigned to reflect
the speaker and microphone mute state. This implementation
adds a tiny layer on top of the control API which calculates
the state for those LEDs using the driver callbacks.
Two new access flags are introduced to describe the controls
which affects the audio path settings (an easy code change
for drivers).
The LED resource can be shared with multiple sound cards with
this code. The user space controls may be added to the state
chain on demand, too.
This code should replace the LED code in the HDA driver and
add a possibility to easy extend the other drivers (ASoC
codecs etc.).

The PCM stop operation sets the stop_operating flag for indicating the
sync_stop post-process. This flag is, however, set unconditionally
even if the PCM trigger weren't issued. This may lead to
inconsistency in the driver side.
Correct the code to set stop_operating flag only after the trigger
STOP is actually called.

The current PCM code calls the sync_stop at the resume action due to
the analogy to the PCM prepare call pattern. But, it makes little
sense, as the sync should have been done rather at the suspend time,
not at the resume time.
This patch corrects the sync_stop call at suspend/resume to assure the
sync before finishing the suspend.

The PCM core should perform the sync for the pending stop operations
at disconnection. Otherwise it may lead to unexpected access.
Currently the old user of sync_stop, USB-audio driver, has its own
sync, so this isn't needed, but it's better to guarantee the sync in
the PCM core level.
This patch adds the missing sync_stop call at PCM disconnection
callback. It also assures the IRQ sync if it's specified in the
card. snd_pcm_sync_stop() is slightly modified to be called also for
any PCM substream object now.

The commit 2d670ea2bd ("ALSA: jack: implement software jack
injection via debugfs") introduced a debugfs root for each sound card
object. The debugfs entry gets removed at the card removal, too, but
it turned out that debugfs_remove() is called at a wrong place; it's
after the card object gets freed, hence it leads to use-after-free.
Fix it by moving the debugfs_remove() at the right place, the
destructor of the card device.

This change adds audio jack injection feature through debugfs, with
this feature, we could validate alsa userspace changes by injecting
plugin or plugout events to the non-phantom audio jacks.
With this change, the sound core will build the folders
$debugfs_mount_dir/sound/cardN if SND_DEBUG and DEBUG_FS are enabled.
And if users also enable the SND_JACK_INJECTION_DEBUG, the jack
injection nodes will be built in the folder cardN like below:

The nodes kctl_id, mask_bits, status and type are read-only, users
could check jack or jack_kctl's information through them.
The nodes sw_inject_enable and jackin_inject are directly used for
injection. The sw_inject_enable is read-write, users could check if
software injection is enabled or not on this jack, and users could
echo 1 or 0 to enable or disable software injection on this jack. Once
the injection is enabled, the jack will not change by hardware events
anymore, once the injection is disabled, the jack will restore the
last reported hardware events to the jack. The jackin_inject is
write-only, if the injection is enabled, users could echo 1 or 0 to
this node to inject plugin or plugout events to this jack.

The fix for a long-standing USB-audio bug required one more dependency
variable to be added to the hw constraints. Unfortunately I didn't
realize at debugging that the new addition may result in the overflow
of the dependency array of each snd_pcm_hw_rule (up to three plus a
sentinel), because USB-audio driver adds one more dependency only for
a certain device and bus, hence it works as is for many devices. But
in a bad case, a simple open always results in -EINVAL (with kernel
WARNING if CONFIG_SND_DEBUG is set) no matter what is passed.
Since the dependencies are real and unavoidable (USB-audio restricts
the hw_params per looping over the format/rate/channels combos), the
only good solution seems to raise the bar for one more dependency for
snd_pcm_hw_rule -- so does this patch: now the hw constraint
dependencies can be up to four.

snd_seq_oss_synth_make_info() didn't check the error code from
snd_seq_oss_midi_make_info(), and this leads to the call of strlcpy()
with the uninitialized string as the source, which may lead to the
access over the limit.
Add the proper error check for avoiding the failure.

preferred strscpy.

The PCM hw_params core function tries to clear up the PCM buffer
before actually using for avoiding the information leak from the
previous usages or the usage before a new allocation. It performs the
memset() with runtime->dma_bytes, but this might still leave some
remaining bytes untouched; namely, the PCM buffer size is aligned in
page size for mmap, hence runtime->dma_bytes doesn't necessarily cover
all PCM buffer pages, and the remaining bytes are exposed via mmap.
This patch changes the memory clearance to cover the all buffer pages
if the stream is supposed to be mmap-ready (that guarantees that the
buffer size is aligned in page size).

Currently the standard memory allocator (snd_dma_malloc_pages*())
passes the byte size to allocate as is. Most of the backends
allocates real pages, hence the actual allocations are aligned in page
size. However, the genalloc doesn't seem assuring the size alignment,
hence it may result in the access outside the buffer when the whole
memory pages are exposed via mmap.
For avoiding such inconsistencies, this patch makes the allocation
size always to be aligned in page size.
Note that, after this change, snd_dma_buffer.bytes field contains the
aligned size, not the originally requested size. This value is also
used for releasing the pages in return.

Since commit d4cfb30fce ("ALSA: pcm: Set per-card upper limit of PCM
buffer allocations") snd_pcm_lib_preallocate_dma_free() is a single line
function that has one caller, which is another single line function.
Clean this up a bit and remove snd_pcm_lib_preallocate_dma_free() and
directly call do_free_pages() from snd_pcm_lib_preallocate_free(). This is
a bit less boilerplate.

syzbot spotted a potential out-of-bounds shift in the PCM OSS layer
where it calculates the buffer size with the arbitrary shift value
given via an ioctl.
Add a range check for avoiding the undefined behavior.
As the value can be treated by a signed integer, the max shift should
be 30.

The snd_seq_queue struct contains various flags in the bit fields.
Those are categorized to two different use cases, both of which are
protected by different spinlocks. That implies that there are still
potential risks of the bad operations for bit fields by concurrent
accesses.
For addressing the problem, this patch rearranges those flags to be
a standard bool instead of a bit field.

With a stream with low bitrate, user can't pause or resume the stream
near the end of the stream because current ALSA doesn't allow it.
If the stream has very low bitrate enough to store whole stream into
the buffer, user can't do anything except stop the stream and then
restart it from the first because most of applications call draining
after sending last frame to the kernel.
If pause, resume are allowed during draining, user experience can be
enhanced.
To prevent malfunction in HW drivers which don't support pause
during draining, pause during draining will only work if HW driver
enable this feature explicitly by calling
snd_compr_use_pause_in_draining().

When processing request to add/replace user-defined element set, check
of given element identifier and decision of numeric identifier is done
in "__snd_ctl_add_replace()" helper function. When the result of check
is wrong, the helper function returns error code. The error code shall
be returned to userspace application.
Current implementation includes bug to return zero to userspace application
regardless of the result. This commit fixes the bug.

The function snd_seq_queue_client_termination() is only called from
the function seq_free_client1(). The function seq_free_client1() calls
the function snd_seq_queue_client_leave() and the function
snd_seq_queue_client_termination() together. Because the function
snd_seq_queue_client_leave() does all things, so the function
snd_seq_queue_client_termination() is a useless function.

Recently we applied a fix to cover the whole OSS sequencer ioctls with
the mutex for dealing with the possible races. This works fine in
general, but in theory, this may lead to unexpectedly long stall if an
ioctl like SNDCTL_SEQ_SYNC is issued and an event with the far future
timestamp was queued.
For fixing such a potential stall, this patch changes the mutex lock
applied conditionally excluding such an ioctl command. Also, change
the mutex_lock() with the interruptible version for user to allow
escaping from the big-hammer mutex.

The recent change in lockdep for read lock caused the deadlock
warnings in ALSA control code which uses the read_lock() for
notification and else while write_lock_irqsave() is used for adding
and removing the list entry. Although a deadlock would practically
never hit in a real usage (the addition and the deletion can't happen

This patch replaces the read_lock() calls with read_lock_irqsave()
version for avoiding a reported deadlock. The notification code path
takes the irq disablement in anyway, and other code paths are very
short execution, hence there shouldn't be any big performance hit by
this change.

Using compat_alloc_user_space() tends to add complexity
to the ioctl handling, so I am trying to remove it everywhere.
The two callers in sound/core can rewritten to just call
the same code that operates on a kernel pointer as the
native handler.

The tasklet is an old API that should be deprecated, usually can be
converted to another decent API. In ALSA core timer API, the
callbacks can be offlined to a tasklet when a flag is set in the timer
backend. It can be achieved gracefully with a work queued in the
high-prio system workqueue.
This patch replaces the usage of tasklet in ALSA timer API with a
simple work. Currently the tasklet feature is used only in the system
timer and hrtimer backends, so both are patched to use the new flag
name SNDRV_TIMER_HW_WORK, too.

The PCM OSS mulaw plugin has a check of the format of the counter part
whether it's a linear format. The check is with snd_BUG_ON() that
emits WARN_ON() when the debug config is set, and it confuses
syzkaller as if it were a serious issue. Let's drop snd_BUG_ON() for
avoiding that.
While we're at it, correct the error code to a more suitable, EINVAL.

Some ioctls via OSS sequencer API may race and lead to UAF when the
port create and delete are performed concurrently, as spotted by a
couple of syzkaller cases. This patch is an attempt to address it by
serializing the ioctls with the existing register_mutex.
Basically OSS sequencer API is an obsoleted interface and was designed
without much consideration of the concurrency. There are very few
applications with it, and the concurrent performance isn't asked,
hence this "big hammer" approach should be good enough.

snd_info_get_line() has a sanity check of NULL buffer -- both buffer
itself being NULL and buffer->buffer being NULL. Basically both
checks are valid and necessary, but the problem is that it's with
snd_BUG_ON() macro that triggers WARN_ON(). The latter condition
(NULL buffer->buffer) can be met arbitrarily by user since the buffer
is allocated at the first write, so it means that user can trigger
WARN_ON() at will.
This patch addresses it by simply moving buffer->buffer NULL check out
of snd_BUG_ON() so that spurious WARNING is no longer triggered.

Poking the DMA internal helper is a layer violation, so we should
avoid that. Meanwhile the actual bug has been addressed by the
Kconfig fix in commit dbed452a07 ("dma-pool: decouple DMA_REMAP from
DMA_COHERENT_POOL"), so we can live without this hack.

Using uninitialized_var() is dangerous as it papers over real bugs[1]
(or can in the future), and suppresses unrelated compiler warnings
(e.g. "unused variable"). If the compiler thinks it is uninitialized,
either simply initialize the variable or make compiler changes.
In preparation for removing[2] the[3] macro[4], remove all remaining
needless uses with the following script:

The commit 3ad796cbc3 ("ALSA: pcm: Use SG-buffer only when direct
DMA is available") introduced a check of the DMA type and this caused
a build error on m68k (and possibly some others) due to the lack of
dma_is_direct() definition. Since the check is needed only for
CONFIG_SND_DMA_SGBUF enablement (i.e. solely x86), use #ifdef instead
of IS_ENABLED() for avoiding such a build error.

On partial_drain completion we should be in SNDRV_PCM_STATE_RUNNING
state, so set that for partially draining streams in
snd_compr_drain_notify() and use a flag for partially draining streams
While at it, add locks for stream state change in
snd_compr_drain_notify() as well.

The module argument passed to snd_card_new() must be a valid non-NULL
pointer when the module support is enabled. Since ASoC driver passes
the argument from each snd_soc_card definition, one may forget to set
the owner field and lead to a NULL module easily.
For catching such an overlook, add a WARN_ON() in snd_card_new().
Also, put the card->module assignment in the ifdef block for a very
minor optimization.

The DMA-coherent SG-buffer is tricky to use, as it does need the
mapping. It used to work stably on x86 over years (and that's why we
had enabled SG-buffer on solely x86) with the default mmap handler and
vmap(), but our luck seems no forever success. The chance of breakage
is high when the special DMA handling is introduced in the arch side.
In this patch, we change the buffer allocation to use the SG-buffer
only when the device in question is with the direct DMA. It's a bit
hackish, but it's currently the only condition that may work (more or
less) reliably with the default mmap and vmap() for mapping the pages
that are deduced via virt_to_page().
In theory, we can apply the similar hack in the sound/core memory
allocation helper, too; but it's used by SOF for allocating SG pages
without re-mapping via vmap() or mmap, and it's fine to use it in that
way, so let's keep it and adds the workaround in PCM side.

We have a few helper functions for making the access to the buffer
address easier on SG-buffer. Those are specific to the buffer that is
allocated with SG-buffer type, and it makes hard to use both SG and
non-SG buffers in the same code.
This patch adds a few simple checks and lets the helpers to deal with
both SG- and continuous buffers gracefully. It's a preliminary step
for the upcoming patch that mimics the buffer type on the fly.

Some fields in snd_dma_buffer aren't touched in snd_dma_alloc_pages()
and might be left uninitialized. Let's clear all fields properly, so
that we can use a NULL check (e.g. dmab->private_data) as conditional
in a later patch.

We avoided the explicit use of dma_mmap_coherent() on x86 because of a
spurious warning in x86 APT code in the past. However, this blindly
assumes that the pages allocated via dma_alloc_coherent() on x86 are
the ones convertible via virt_to_page() (that is used in the default
mmap handler), and it's no longer true; with the indirect DMA ops,
this can be handled differently. The only certain way for doing mmap
such pages is the dma_mmap_coherent(), and the warning seems already
gone in the recent code, so let's use it consistently.

Patch series "mm: consolidate definitions of page table accessors", v2.
The low level page table accessors (pXY_index(), pXY_offset()) are
duplicated across all architectures and sometimes more than once. For
instance, we have 31 definition of pgd_offset() for 25 supported
architectures.
Most of these definitions are actually identical and typically it boils
down to, e.g.

These definitions can be shared among 90% of the arches provided
XYZ_SHIFT, PTRS_PER_XYZ and xyz_page_vaddr() are defined.
For architectures that really need a custom version there is always
possibility to override the generic version with the usual ifdefs magic.
These patches introduce include/linux/pgtable.h that replaces
include/asm-generic/pgtable.h and add the definitions of the page table
accessors to the new header.
This patch (of 12):
The linux/mm.h header includes <asm/pgtable.h> to allow inlining of the
functions involving page table manipulations, e.g. pte_alloc() and
pmd_alloc(). So, there is no point to explicitly include <asm/pgtable.h>
in the files that include <linux/mm.h>.
The include statements in such cases are remove with a simple loop:

There is a corner case that ALSA keeps increasing the hw_ptr but DMA
already stop working/updating the position for a long time.
In following log we can see the position returned from DMA driver does
not move at all but the hw_ptr got increased at some point of time so
snd_pcm_avail() will return a large number which seems to be a buffer
underrun event from user space program point of view. The program
thinks there is space in the buffer and fill more data.

This is because the hw_base will be increased by runtime->buffer_size
frames unconditionally if the hw_ptr is not updated for over half of
buffer time. As the hw_base increases, so does the hw_ptr increased
by the same number.
The avail value returned from snd_pcm_avail() could exceed the limit
(buffer_size) easily becase the hw_ptr itself got increased by same
buffer_size samples when the corner case happens. In following log,
the buffer_size is 16368 samples but the avail is 21810 samples so
CRAS server complains about it.

By updating runtime->hw_ptr_jiffies each time the HWSYNC is called,
the hw_base will keep the same when buffer stall happens at long as
the interval between each HWSYNC call is shorter than half of buffer
time.
Following is a log captured by a patched kernel. The hw_base/hw_ptr
value is fixed in this corner case and user space program should be
aware of the buffer stall and handle it.

The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language
extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare
variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2],
introduced in C99:

By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning
in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which
will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being
inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on.
Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by
this change:
"Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator
may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of
zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1]
sizeof(flexible-array-member) triggers a warning because flexible array
members have incomplete type[1]. There are some instances of code in
which the sizeof operator is being incorrectly/erroneously applied to
zero-length arrays and the result is zero. Such instances may be hiding
some bugs. So, this work (flexible-array member conversions) will also
help to get completely rid of those sorts of issues.
This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle.

The rawmidi core allows user to resize the runtime buffer via ioctl,
and this may lead to UAF when performed during concurrent reads or
writes: the read/write functions unlock the runtime lock temporarily
during copying form/to user-space, and that's the race window.
This patch fixes the hole by introducing a reference counter for the
runtime buffer read/write access and returns -EBUSY error when the
resize is performed concurrently against read/write.
Note that the ref count field is a simple integer instead of
refcount_t here, since the all contexts accessing the buffer is
basically protected with a spinlock, hence we need no expensive atomic
ops. Also, note that this busy check is needed only against read /
write functions, and not in receive/transmit callbacks; the race can
happen only at the spinlock hole mentioned in the above, while the
whole function is protected for receive / transmit callbacks.

The checks of the plugin buffer overflow in the previous fix by commit

are put in the wrong places mistakenly, which leads to the expected
(repeated) sound when the rate plugin is involved. Fix in the right
places.
Also, at those right places, the zero check is needed for the
termination node, so added there as well, and let's get it done,
finally.

The recent fix for the OOB access in PCM OSS plugins (commit
f2ecf903ef: "ALSA: pcm: oss: Avoid plugin buffer overflow") caused a
regression on OSS applications. The patch introduced the size check
in client and slave size calculations to limit to each plugin's buffer
size, but I overlooked that some code paths call those without

The virmidi driver handles sysex event exceptionally in a short-cut
snd_seq_dump_var_event() call, but this missed the reset of the
running status. As a result, it may lead to an incomplete command
right after the sysex when an event with the same running status was
queued.
Fix it by clearing the running status properly via alling
snd_midi_event_reset_decode() for that code path.

show_pcm_class() returns obviously a short string that can't overflow
PAGE_SIZE. And even if it were to overflow, using snprintf() there is
just wrong, as it doesn't return the correct size.
So simplify with sprintf() instead.

The return value checks in snd_pcm_plug_alloc() are covered with
snd_BUG_ON() macro that may trigger a kernel WARNING depending on the
kconfig. But since the error condition can be triggered by a weird
user space parameter passed to OSS layer, we shouldn't give the kernel
stack trace just for that. As it's a normal error condition, let's
remove snd_BUG_ON() macro usage there.

Both snd_pcm_plug_client_size() and snd_pcm_plug_slave_size() do the
almost same calculations of calling src_frames() and dst_frames() in
the chain, but just to the different directions with each other.
This patch simplifies those functions. Now they return -EINVAL for
the invalid direction, but practically seen, there is no functional
changes at all.

Each OSS PCM plugins allocate its internal buffer per pre-calculation
of the max buffer size through the chain of plugins (calling
src_frames and dst_frames callbacks). This works for most plugins,
but the rate plugin might behave incorrectly. The calculation in the
rate plugin involves with the fractional position, i.e. it may vary
depending on the input position. Since the buffer size
pre-calculation is always done with the offset zero, it may return a
shorter size than it might be; this may result in the out-of-bound
access as spotted by fuzzer.
This patch addresses those possible buffer overflow accesses by simply
setting the upper limit per the given buffer size for each plugin
before src_frames() and after dst_frames() calls.

We are currently using simple-audio-card on the Allwinner A64 SoC.
The digital audio codec there (sun8i-codec) has 3 AIFs, one each for the
CPU, the modem, and Bluetooth. Adding support for the secondary AIFs
requires adding codec2codec DAI links.
Since the modem and bt-sco codec DAI drivers only have one set of
possible PCM parameters (namely, 8kHz mono S16LE), there's no real
need for a machine driver to specify the DAI link configuration. The
parameters for these "simple" DAI links can be chosen automatically.
This series adds codec2codec DAI link support to simple-audio-card.
Codec to codec links are automatically detected when all DAIs in the
link belong to codec components.
I tried to reuse as much code as possible, so the first two patches
refactor a couple of helper functions to be more generic.
The last patch adds the new feature and its documentation.

It can be useful to derive min/max rates of a snd_pcm_hardware without
having a snd_pcm_runtime, such as before constructing an ASoC DAI link.
Create a new helper that takes a pointer to a snd_pcm_hardware directly,
and refactor the original function as a wrapper around it, to avoid
needing to update any call sites.

ALSA PCM OSS layer calls the generic __snd_pcm_lib_xfer() helper for
the actual transfer of the audio data. The xfer helper may sleep long
for waiting for the enough space becoming empty for read/write, and
it does unlock/relock for the substream lock. This works fine, so
far, but a slight problem specific to OSS layer is that OSS layer
wraps yet more mutex (runtime->oss.params_lock) over
__snd_pcm_lib_xfer() call; so this mutex is still locked during a
possible long sleep, and it prevents the whole ioctl and other actions
applied to the given stream.
This patch adds the temporarily unlock and relock of the mutex around
__snd_pcm_lib_xfer() call in the OSS layer to be more friendly to the
concurrent accesses. The long mutex protection itself shouldn't be a
real issue for the normal systems, and its influence appears only on
strange things like fuzzers.

snd_seq_check_queue() passes the current tick and time of the given
queue as a pointer to snd_seq_prioq_cell_out(), but those might be
updated concurrently by the seq timer update.
Fix it by retrieving the current tick and time via the proper helper
functions at first, and pass those values to snd_seq_prioq_cell_out()
later in the loops.
snd_seq_timer_get_cur_time() takes a new argument and adjusts with the
current system time only when it's requested so; this update isn't
needed for snd_seq_check_queue(), as it's called either from the
interrupt handler or right after queuing.
Also, snd_seq_timer_get_cur_tick() is changed to read the value in the
spinlock for the concurrency, too.

The queue flags are represented in bit fields and the concurrent
access may result in unexpected results. Although the current code
should be mostly OK as it's only reading a field while writing other
fields as KCSAN reported, it's safer to cover both with a proper
spinlock protection.
This patch fixes the possible concurrent read by protecting with
q->owner_lock. Also the queue owner field is protected as well since
it's the field to be protected by the lock itself.

The commit 66f2d19f81 ("ALSA: pcm: Fix memory leak at closing a
stream without hw_free") tried to fix the regression wrt the missing
hw_free call at closing without SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_HW_FREE ioctl.
However, the code change dropped mistakenly the state check, resulting
in calling hw_free twice when SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_HW_FRE got called
beforehand. For most drivers, this is almost harmless, but the
drivers like SOF show another regression now.
This patch adds the state condition check before calling do_hw_free()
at releasing the stream for avoiding the double hw_free calls.

The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language
extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare
variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2],
introduced in C99:

By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning
in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which
will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being
inadvertenly introduced[3] to the codebase from now on.
This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle.
