2dc26d98cf overflow updates for v5.16-rc1
The end goal of the current buffer overflow detection work[0] is to gain
 full compile-time and run-time coverage of all detectable buffer overflows
 seen via array indexing or memcpy(), memmove(), and memset(). The str*()
 family of functions already have full coverage.
 
 While much of the work for these changes have been on-going for many
 releases (i.e. 0-element and 1-element array replacements, as well as
 avoiding false positives and fixing discovered overflows[1]), this series
 contains the foundational elements of several related buffer overflow
 detection improvements by providing new common helpers and FORTIFY_SOURCE
 changes needed to gain the introspection required for compiler visibility
 into array sizes. Also included are a handful of already Acked instances
 using the helpers (or related clean-ups), with many more waiting at the
 ready to be taken via subsystem-specific trees[2]. The new helpers are:
 
 - struct_group() for gaining struct member range introspection.
 - memset_after() and memset_startat() for clearing to the end of structures.
 - DECLARE_FLEX_ARRAY() for using flex arrays in unions or alone in structs.
 
 Also included is the beginning of the refactoring of FORTIFY_SOURCE to
 support memcpy() introspection, fix missing and regressed coverage under
 GCC, and to prepare to fix the currently broken Clang support. Finishing
 this work is part of the larger series[0], but depends on all the false
 positives and buffer overflow bug fixes to have landed already and those
 that depend on this series to land.
 
 As part of the FORTIFY_SOURCE refactoring, a set of both a compile-time
 and run-time tests are added for FORTIFY_SOURCE and the mem*()-family
 functions respectively. The compile time tests have found a legitimate
 (though corner-case) bug[6] already.
 
 Please note that the appearance of "panic" and "BUG" in the
 FORTIFY_SOURCE refactoring are the result of relocating existing code,
 and no new use of those code-paths are expected nor desired.
 
 Finally, there are two tree-wide conversions for 0-element arrays and
 flexible array unions to gain sane compiler introspection coverage that
 result in no known object code differences.
 
 After this series (and the changes that have now landed via netdev
 and usb), we are very close to finally being able to build with
 -Warray-bounds and -Wzero-length-bounds. However, due corner cases in
 GCC[3] and Clang[4], I have not included the last two patches that turn
 on these options, as I don't want to introduce any known warnings to
 the build. Hopefully these can be solved soon.

407359d44e ALSA: firewire-motu: export meter information to userspace as float value
In command DSP models, one meter information consists of 4 bytes for
IEEE 764 floating point (binary32). In previous patch, it is exported
to userspace as 32 bit storage since the storage is also handled in
ALSA firewire-motu driver as well in kernel space in which floating point
arithmetic is not preferable. On the other hand, ALSA firewire-motu driver
doesn't perform floating point calculation. The driver just gather meter
information from isochronous packets and fill structure fields for
userspace.

In 'header' target of Kbuild, UAPI headers are processed before installed.
In this timing, #ifdef macro with __KERNEL__ is removed. This mechanism
is useful in the case so that the 32 bit storage can be accessible as u32
type in kernel space and float type in user space. We can see the same
usage in ''struct acct_v3' in 'include/uapi/linux/acct.h'.

This commit is for the above idea. Additionally, due to message
protocol, meter information is filled with 0xffffffff in the end of
period but 0xffffffff is invalid as binary32. To avoid confusion in
userspace application, the last two elements are left without any
assignment.

0f166e1257 ALSA: firewire-motu: refine parser for meter information in register DSP models
After further investigation, I realize that the total number of elements
in array is not enough to store all of related messages from device.
This commit refines meter array and message parser.

In terms of channel identifier, register DSP models are classified to
two categories:

1. the target of output is selectable

828mk2, 896hd, and Traveler are in the category. They transfer messages
with channel identifier between 0x00 and 0x13 for input meters,
therefore 20 elements are needed to store.

On the other hand, they transfer messages with channel identifier for one
pair of output meters. The selection is done by asynchronous write
transaction to offset 0x'ffff'f000'0b2c. The table for relationship
between written value and available identifiers is below:

In support of enabling -Warray-bounds and -Wzero-length-bounds and
correctly handling run-time memcpy() bounds checking, replace all

ASoC: SOF: topology: Add new token for dynamic pipeline
Today, we set up all widgets required for all PCM streams
at the time of topology parsing even if they are not
used. An optimization would be to only set up the widgets
required for currently active PCM streams. This would give
the FW the opportunity to power gate unused memory blocks,
thereby saving power.

For dynamic pipelines, the widgets in the connected DAPM path
for each PCM will need to be set up at runtime. This patch
introduces a new token, DYNAMIC_PIPELINE, for scheduler type
widgets that indicate whether a pipeline should be set up
statically during topology load or at runtime when the PCM is
opened. Introduce a new field called dynamic_pipeline_widget
in struct snd_sof_widget to save the value of the parsed token.

The token is set only for the pipeline (scheduler type)
widget and must be propagated to all widgets in the same
pipeline during topology load. Introduce another field called
pipe_widget in struct snd_sof_widget that saves the pointer to
the scheduler widget with the same pipeline ID as that of the
widget. This field is populated when the pipeline completion
callback is invoked during topology loading.

A module can have two kinds of set params, as per topology requirements.
For example, one pre-init and one post-init. But currently, there is
support for just one type, as the format_config.

This patch extends the format_configs to 4, so as to be able to support

module, simultaneously.

ALSA PCM core has an optimized way to communicate with user-space for
its control and status data via mmap on the supported architectures
like x86.  Depending on the situation, however, we'd rather want to
enforce user-space notifying the applptr or hwptr change explicitly
via ioctl.  For example, the upcoming non-contig and non-coherent
buffer handling would need an explicit sync, and this needs to catch
the applptr and hwptr changes.  Also, ASoC SOF driver will have the
SPIB support that has the similar requirement for the explicit control
of the applptr and hwptr.

This patch adds the new PCM hardware info flag,
SNDRV_PCM_INFO_EXPLICIT_SYNC.  When this flag is set, PCM core
disables both the control and the status mmap, which enforces
user-space to update via SYNC_PTR ioctl.  In that way, drivers can
catch the applptr and hwptr update and apply the sync operation if
needed.

08fdced60c ALSA: rawmidi: Add framing mode
This commit adds a new framing mode that frames all MIDI data into
32-byte frames with a timestamp.

The main benefit is that we can get accurate timestamps even if
userspace wakeup and processing is not immediate.

Testing on a Celeron N3150 with this mode has a max jitter of 2.8 ms,
compared to the in-kernel seq implementation which has a max jitter
of 5 ms during idle and much worse when running scheduler stress tests
in parallel.

ASoC: SOF: support topology components on secondary cores
Currently SOF supports running pipelines on secondary DSP cores in a
limited way. This patch represents the next step in SOF multi-core DSP
support, it adds checks for core ID to individual topology components.
It takes care to power up all the requested cores. More advanced DSP
core power management should be added in the future.

ASoC: SOF: IPC: make sof_ipc_window monosized
This step is needed to add possibility to pack sof_ipc_window inside
another one in used FW build tools - for example in extended manifest.
Structure reusability leads to easy parsing function reuse, so source
code is shorter and easier to maintain.

Using structures with constant size is less tricky and properly
supported by each toolchain by contrast to variable size elements.

This is minor ABI change - backward compatibility is kept.

FW interface for HDA DAI parameters was extended with information on
sampling rate and channel count in version 3.16. Align kernel header
with the FW change. This change is backwards compatible. Old firmware
will ignore the values.

ASoC: SOF: make sof_ipc_cc_version to fixed length
Align struct sof_ipc_cc_version to firmware definition in SOF ABI 3.15.0.

The struct definition was changed due to errors in FW build.
The Cadence XCC compiler produces incorrect linkage section sizes, when a
variable length array is used in the compiler version struct. The firmware
definition was changed to a fixed 32 byte compiler description string.
This length covers all released firmware binaries and thus only a minor
ABI change is needed.

As the same structure is used in IPC messages between driver and firmware,
the kernel needs to be aligned to firmware change.

Extended manifest is a place to store build time known firmware
metadata, for example firmware version or used compiler description.
Given information is read on host side before firmware startup.
This part of output binary is located as a first structure in binary
file.
Extended manifest should be skipped in firmware loading routine.

A few uapi/sound/*.h headers have been corrected for recovering from
the compile errors with the existing user-space code (alsa-lib) by the
recent commits.  OTOH, these introduced another regression, as now
linux/types.h inclusion became mandatory for the uapi header checks.

As a compromise, this patch re-adds linux/types.h inclusions again,
but conditionally not to break other non-standard user-space stuff
again.

a103a39899 ALSA: control: Fix incompatible protocol error
The recent change to bump the ALSA control API protocol version from
2.0.7 to 2.1.0 caused a regression on user-space; while the user-space
expects both the major and the minor versions to be identical with the
supported numbers, we changed the minor number from 0 to 1.

For recovering from the incompatibility, this patch changes the
protocol version again to 2.0.8, which is compatible, but yet higher
than the original number 2.0.7, indicating that the protocol change.

In a development period for v5.6 kernel, some changes are introduced to
structures in ALSA control interface:
 - 'tstamp' member is removed from 'struct snd_ctl_elem_value
 - 'TSTAMP' flag is removed from a set of access flags for 'struct
   snd_ctl_elem_info'
 - 'dimen' member is removed from 'struct snd_ctl_elem_info

Although these changes were introduced with enough consideration for
backward compatibility, they include slightly lose of it. This commit
bumps protocol version of ALSA control interface up to v2.1.0.

ff16351e3f ALSA: ctl: remove dimen member from elem_info structure
The 'dimen' member of 'struct snd_ctl_elem_info' is designed to deliver
information to use an array of value as multi-dimensional values. This
feature is used just by echoaudio PCI driver, and fortunately it's not
used by the other applications than 'echomixer' in alsa-tools.

In a previous commit, usage of 'dimen' member is removed from echoaudio
PCI driver. Nowadays no driver/application use the feature.

This commit removes the member from structure.

5422835666 ALSA: ctl: remove unused macro for timestamping of elem_value
In a former commit, 'tstamp' member was removed from 'struct
snd_ctl_elem_value' in a middle way toward solution of Y2038 issue. In a
protocol of ALSA control interface, this member is designed to deliver
timestamp information in the value structure when the target element
supports SNDRV_CTL_ELEM_ACCESS_TIMESTAMP flag.

Actually, the feature is neither used by kernel space nor user space,
especiall alsa-lib has no API for the feature. Therefore it's reasonable
to remove both of them. Practically, the timestamp information
corresponds to no information about type of clock ID. It can bring
confusions to applications.

the latest Linus kernel uapi/*.h, and this broke the build of
alsa-tools programs.  We used to modify the headers so that they can

verbatim copy doesn't work as is.

This patch removes again the linux/types.h inclusion and drop __user
prefix that broke the build and adjusts the corresponding code.

2e46886763 ALSA: emu10k1: Make uapi/emu10k1.h compilable again
Recently we updated the content in alsa-lib uapi header files by just
copying from the latest Linus kernel uapi/*.h, and noticed that it
broke the build of some alsa-tools programs.  The reason is that we
used to have a modified version in the past, so that the program can
be built without referring to the unexported stuff like
snd_ctl_elem_id or __user prefix.

This patch attempts to restore that, i.e. dropping the stuff that
can't be referred in the user-space.  For adapting the changes in
uapi/emu10k1.h, the emu10k1 driver code is also slightly modified.
Most of changes are pointer cast.

32-bit applications built with 64-bit time_t require both the headers
and the running kernel to support at least the new API version. When
built with earlier kernel headers, some of these may not work
correctly, so applications are encouraged to fail compilation like

or provide their own updated copy of the header file.
At runtime, the interface is unchanged for 32-bit time_t, but new
kernels are required to work with user compiled with 64-bit time_t.

A runtime check can be used to detect old kernel versions and

80fe7430c7 ALSA: add new 32-bit layout for snd_pcm_mmap_status/control
The snd_pcm_mmap_status and snd_pcm_mmap_control interfaces are one of the
trickiest areas to get right when moving to 64-bit time_t in user space.

The snd_pcm_mmap_status structure layout is incompatible with user space
that uses a 64-bit time_t, so we need a new layout for it. Since the
SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_SYNC_PTR ioctl combines it with snd_pcm_mmap_control
into snd_pcm_sync_ptr, we need to change those two as well.

Both structures are also exported via an mmap() operation on certain
architectures, and this suffers from incompatibility between 32-bit
and 64-bit user space. As we have to change both structures anyway,
this is a good opportunity to fix the mmap() problem as well, so let's
standardize on the existing 64-bit layout of the structure where possible.

The downside is that we lose mmap() support for existing 32-bit x86 and
powerpc applications, adding that would introduce very noticeable runtime
overhead and complexity. My assumption here is that not too many people
will miss the removed feature, given that:

- Almost all x86 and powerpc users these days are on 64-bit kernels,
the majority of today's 32-bit users are on architectures that never
supported mmap (ARM, MIPS, ...).
- It never worked in compat mode (it was intentionally disabled there)
- The application already needs to work with a fallback to
SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_SYNC_PTR, which will keep working with both the old
and new structure layout.

Both the ioctl() and mmap() based interfaces are changed at the same
time, as they are based on the same structures. Unlike other interfaces,
we change the uapi header to export both the traditional structure and
a version that is portable between 32-bit and 64-bit user space code
and that corresponds to the existing 64-bit layout. We further check the
__USE_TIME_BITS64 macro that will be defined by future C library versions
whenever we use the new time_t definition, so any existing user space
source code will not see any changes until it gets rebuilt against a new
C library. However, the new structures are all visible in addition to the
old ones, allowing applications to explicitly request the new structures.

In order to detect the difference between the old snd_pcm_mmap_status and
the new __snd_pcm_mmap_status64 structure from the ioctl command number,
we rely on one quirk in the structure definition: snd_pcm_mmap_status
must be aligned to alignof(time_t), which leads the compiler to insert
four bytes of padding in struct snd_pcm_sync_ptr after 'flags' and a
corresponding change in the size of snd_pcm_sync_ptr itself. On x86-32
(and only there), the compiler doesn't use 64-bit alignment in structure,
so I'm adding an explicit pad in the structure that has no effect on the
existing 64-bit architectures but ensures that the layout matches for x86.

The snd_pcm_uframes_t type compatibility requires another hack: we can't
easily make that 64 bit wide, so I leave the type as 'unsigned long',
but add padding before and after it, to ensure that the data is properly
aligned to the respective 64-bit field in the in-kernel structure.

For the SNDRV_PCM_MMAP_OFFSET_STATUS/CONTROL constants that are used
as the virtual file offset in the mmap() function, we also have to
introduce new constants that depend on hte __USE_TIME_BITS64 macro:
The existing macros are renamed to SNDRV_PCM_MMAP_OFFSET_STATUS_OLD
and SNDRV_PCM_MMAP_OFFSET_CONTROL_OLD, they continue to work fine on
64-bit architectures, but stop working on native 32-bit user space.
The replacement _NEW constants are now used by default for user space
built with __USE_TIME_BITS64, those now work on all new kernels for x86,
ppc and alpha (32 and 64 bit, native and compat). It might be a good idea
for a future alsa-lib to support both the _OLD and _NEW macros and use
the corresponding structures directly. Unmodified alsa-lib source code
will retain the current behavior, so it will no longer be able to use
mmap() for the status/control structures on 32-bit systems, until either
the C library gets updated to 64-bit time_t or alsa-lib gets updated to
support both mmap() layouts.

07094ae6f9 ALSA: Avoid using timespec for struct snd_timer_tread
The struct snd_timer_tread will use 'timespec' type variables to record
timestamp, which is not year 2038 safe on 32bits system.

Since the struct snd_timer_tread is passed through read() rather than
ioctl(), and the read syscall has no command number that lets us pick
between the 32-bit or 64-bit version of this structure.

Thus we introduced one new command SNDRV_TIMER_IOCTL_TREAD64 and new
struct snd_timer_tread64 replacing timespec with s64 type to handle
64bit time_t. That means we will set tu->tread = TREAD_FORMAT_64BIT
when user space has a 64bit time_t, then we will copy to user with
struct snd_timer_tread64. Otherwise we will use 32bit time_t variables
when copying to user.

Moreover this patch replaces timespec type with timespec64 type and
related y2038 safe APIs.

Userspace will use SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_STATUS and SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_STATUS_EXT
as commands to issue ioctl() to fill the 'snd_pcm_status' structure in
userspace. The command number is always defined through _IOR/_IOW/IORW,
so when userspace changes the definition of 'struct timespec' to use
64-bit types, the command number also changes.

Thus in the kernel, we now need to define two versions of each such ioctl
and corresponding ioctl commands to handle 32bit time_t and 64bit time_t
in native mode:

snd_pcm_status_user32() are used to handle 32bit time_t in compat mode.
'struct compat_snd_pcm_status64' and snd_pcm_status_user_compat64() are used
to handle 64bit time_t.

The implicit padding before timespec is made explicit to avoid incompatible
structure layout between 32-bit and 64-bit x86 due to the different
alignment requirements, and the snd_pcm_status structure is now hidden
from the kernel to avoid relying on the timespec definitio definitionn

Finally we can replace SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_STATUS and SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_STATUS_EXT
with new commands and introduce new functions to fill new 'struct snd_pcm_status64'
instead of using unsafe 'struct snd_pcm_status'. Then in future, the new
commands can be matched when userspace changes 'timespec' to 64bit type
to make a size change of 'struct snd_pcm_status'. When glibc changes time_t
to 64-bit, any recompiled program will issue ioctl commands that the kernel
does not understand without this patch.

Since there are no drivers will implemented the tstamp member of the
struct snd_ctl_elem_value, and also the stucture size will not be changed
if we change timespec to s64 for tstamp member of struct snd_ctl_elem_value.

From Takashi's comments, "In the library, applications are not expected
to access to this structure directly. The applications get opaque pointer
to the structure and must use any control APIs to operate it. Actually the
library produce no API to handle 'struct snd_ctl_elem_value.tstamp'. This
means that we can drop this member from alsa-lib without decline of
functionality." Thus we can simply remove the tstamp member to avoid using
the type which is not year 2038 safe on 32bits system.

ioctl commands that the kernel does not understand without this patch.

In the public uapi header, snd_timer_status is now guarded by
an #ifndef __KERNEL__ to avoid referencing 'struct timespec'.
The timespec definition will be removed from the kernel to prevent
new y2038 bugs and to avoid the conflict with an incompatible libc
type of the same name.

ALSA: compress: add flac decoder params
The current design of sending codec parameters assumes that decoders
will have parsers so they can parse the encoded stream for parameters
and configure the decoder.

But this assumption may not be universally true and we know some DSPs
which do not contain the parsers so additional parameters are required
to be passed.

So add these parameters starting with FLAC decoder. The size of
snd_codec_options is still 120 bytes after this change (due to this
being a union)

ASoC: SOF: Add DMIC token for unmute gain ramp time
The settling time of DMIC DC level is both platform and used
microphone model specific. The unmute gain ramp is used to conceal
most of the large DC level seen in beginning of capture. This patch
adds into the DMIC DAI IPC struct a new field called unmute_ramp_time
and a new token SOF_TKN_INTEL_DMIC_UNMUTE_RAMP_TIME. The value is the
ramp length in milliseconds (ms).

The ABI minor version is incremented for this backwards compatible
change.

Timer will be reset when DSP is powered down. So the time stamp of trace
log will be reset after resume. Send time stamp to FW can align the time
stamp and avoid reset time stamp in trace log.

ASoC: SOF: bump to ABI 3.6
We had a couple of misses with ABI changes, e.g. for Xtensa oops
information and the integration of sound trigger, before we set-up a
formal process to track evolutions.

With this patch, the SOF kernel patches are officially aligned with
the firmware 3.6 level. Changing this level has no impact on existing
users and is fully backwards-compatible.

The uapi header asound.h defines types based on struct timespec. We need
to #include <time.h> to get access to the definition of this struct.

Previously, we encountered the following error message when building
applications with a clang/bionic toolchain:

The absence of the time.h #include statement does not cause build errors

d716742243 ALSA: firewire-tascam: queue events for change of control surface
Units of TASCAM FireWire series transfer image of states of the unit in
tx isochronous packets. Demultiplexing of the states from the packets
is done in software interrupt context regardless of any process context.
In a view of userspace applications, it needs to have notification
mechanism to catch change of the states.

This commit implements a queue to store events for the notification. The
image of states includes fluctuating data such as level of gain/volume
for physical input/output and position of knobs. Therefore the events
are queued corresponding to some control features only.

Furthermore, the queued events are planned to be consumed by userspace
applications via ALSA hwdep interface. This commit suppresses event
queueing when no applications open the hwdep interface.

However, the queue is maintained in an optimistic scenario, thus without
any care against overrrun. This is reasonable because target events are
useless just to handle PCM frames. It starts queueing when an usespace
application opens hwdep interface, thus it's expected to read the queued
events steadily.

In a previous commit, ALSA firewire-tascam driver stores state image
from tx isochronous packets. This image includes states of knob, fader,
button of control surface, level of gain/volume of each physical
inputs/outputs, and so on. It's useful for userspace applications to
read whole of the image.

This commit adds a unique ioctl command for ALSA hwdep interface for the
purpose. For actual meaning of each bits in this image, please refer to
discussion in alsa-devel[1].

08f9f4485f ALSA: core api: define offsets for TLV items
Currently, there are no pre-defined accessors for the elements
in topology TLV data. In the absence of such offsets, the
tlv data will have to be decoded using hardwired offset
numbers 0-N depending on the type of TLV. This patch defines
accessor offsets for the type, length, min and mute/step items
in TLV data for DB_SCALE type tlv's. These will be used by drivers to
decode the TLV data while loading topology thereby improving
code readability. The type and len offsets are common for all TLV
types. The min and step/mute offsets are specific to DB_SCALE tlv type.

ASoC: topology: Add missing clock gating parameter when parsing hw_configs
Clock gating parameter is a part of `dai_fmt`. It is supported by
`alsa-lib` when creating a topology binary file, but ignored by kernel
when loading this topology file.

After applying this commit, the clock gating parameter is not ignored any
more. This solution is backwards compatible. The existing behaviour is
not broken, because by default the parameter value is 0 and is ignored.

snd_soc_tplg_hw_config.clock_gated = 0 => no effect

Many user space API headers have licensing information, which is either
incomplete, badly formatted or just a shorthand for referring to the
license under which the file is supposed to be.  This makes it hard for
compliance tools to determine the correct license.

Update these files with an SPDX license identifier.  The identifier was
chosen based on the license information in the file.

GPL/LGPL licensed headers get the matching GPL/LGPL SPDX license
identifier with the added 'WITH Linux-syscall-note' exception, which is
the officially assigned exception identifier for the kernel syscall
exception:

   NOTE! This copyright does *not* cover user programs that use kernel
   services by normal system calls - this is merely considered normal use
   of the kernel, and does *not* fall under the heading of "derived work".

This exception makes it possible to include GPL headers into non GPL
code, without confusing license compliance tools.

Headers which have either explicit dual licensing or are just licensed
under a non GPL license are updated with the corresponding SPDX
identifier and the GPLv2 with syscall exception identifier.  The format
is:
        ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR SPDX-ID-OF-OTHER-LICENSE)

SPDX license identifiers are a legally binding shorthand, which can be
used instead of the full boiler plate text.  The update does not remove
existing license information as this has to be done on a case by case
basis and the copyright holders might have to be consulted. This will
happen in a separate step.

The module private data can be modelled independent of its instances so
that it can be reused by the module instances. So move module data to
common manifest which can be referenced by the module instances.

This requires new tokens to be defined to accommodate these changes. The
new tokens will specify buffer sizes, DSP cycles and respective indexes
corresponding to the pcm params in the topology manifest so that driver
need not compute them.

We have an ioctl to inform the PCM protocol version the running kernel
supports, but there is no way to know which protocol version the
user-space can understand.  This lack of information caused headaches
in the past when we tried to extend the ABI.  For example, because we
couldn't guarantee the validity of the reserved bytes, we had to
introduce a new ioctl SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_STATUS_EXT for assigning a few
new fields in the formerly reserved bits.  If we could know that it's
a new alsa-lib, we could assume the availability of the new fields,
thus we could have reused the existing SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_STATUS.

In order to improve the ABI extensibility, this patch adds a new ioctl
for user-space to inform its supporting protocol version to the
kernel.  By reporting the supported protocol from user-space, the
kernel can judge which feature should be provided and which not.

With the addition of the new ioctl, the PCM protocol version is bumped
to 2.0.14, too.  User-space checks the kernel protocol version via
SNDRV_PCM_INFO_PVERSION, then it sets the supported version back via
SNDRV_PCM_INFO_USER_PVERSION.

42f945970a ALSA: pcm: Add the explicit appl_ptr sync support
Currently x86 platforms use the PCM status/control mmaps for
transferring the PCM status and appl_ptr between kernel and
user-spaces.  The mmap is a most efficient way of communication, but
it has a drawback per its nature, namely, it can't notify the change
explicitly to kernel.

The lack of appl_ptr update notification is a problem on a few
existing drivers, but it's mostly a small issue and negligible.
However, a new type of driver that uses DSP for a deep buffer
management requires the exact position of appl_ptr for calculating the
buffer prefetch size, and the asynchronous appl_ptr update between
kernel and user-spaces becomes a significant problem for it.

How can we enforce user-space to report the appl_ptr update?  The way
is relatively simple.  Just by disabling the PCM control mmap, the
user-space is supposed to fall back to the mode using SYNC_PTR ioctl,
and the kernel gets control over that.  This fallback mode is used in
all non-x86 platforms as default, and also in the 32bit compatible
model on all platforms including x86.  It's been implemented already
over a decade, so we can say it's fairly safe and stably working.

With the help of the knowledge above, this patch introduces a new PCM
info flag SNDRV_PCM_INFO_SYNC_APPLPTR for achieving the appl_ptr sync
from user-space.  When a driver sets this flag at open, the PCM status
/ control mmap is disabled, which effectively switches to SYNC_PTR
mode in user-space side.

In this version, both PCM status and control mmaps are disabled
although only the latter, control mmap, is the target.  It's because
the current alsa-lib implementation supposes that both status and
control mmaps are always coupled, thus it handles a fatal error when
only one of them fails.

Of course, the disablement of the status/control mmaps may bring a
slight performance overhead.  Thus, as of now, this should be used
only for the dedicated devices that deserves.

Note that the disablement of mmap is a sort of workaround.  In the
later patch, we'll introduce the way to identify the protocol version
alsa-lib supports, and keep mmap working while the sync_ptr is
performed together.

With this patch, the dma buffer size is fetched from topology binary. This
buffer size is applicable for gateway copier modules.

Now that we can configure DSP dma buffer size, the device can support deep
buffer playback. DSP fetches large buffer and can result fewer wakes,
which helps in power reduction.

17e593e32c ASoC: topology: ABI - Rename be_dai_elems to dai_elems in manifest
User space uses this field to count physical DAIs, not only BE DAIs since
users may not use DPCM. So we rename this field from be_dai_elems to
dai_elems.

This change is backward compatible, because it does not change the layout
of the struct or data type.

Add a new flag bit SND_SOC_TPLG_LNK_FLGBIT_VOICE_WAKEUP to link flags.
If a link is used for voice wake up, users can set this flag bit and

3fbf793510 ASoC: topology: ABI - Rename struct and type for physical DAIs
Rename the ABI struct and type because they are for configuring physical
DAIs, not only backend DAIs since users may not need DPCM:
- Rename struct snd_soc_tplg_be_dai to snd_soc_tplg_dai.
- Rename type SND_SOC_TPLG_TYPE_BE_DAI to SND_SOC_TPLG_TYPE_DAI.

This code refactoring is backward compatible because:
- Both layout of the struct and type value has no change. Kernel can
  find the same type value and map to same data layout.
- This struct is not in ABI v4 at all. Now the user space uses ABI v4.

676c6b5208 ASoC: topology: ABI - Update physical DAI link configuration for version 5
The following fields are added to physical link configuration struct
(snd_soc_tplg_link_config) in ABI v5:

- name and stream name
  Topology will use them to find an existing physical link and configure
  it.

- HW configurations
  Define the types and ABI struct for runtime supported hardware configs
  of physical DAI links, e.g. audio hardware formats. The default HW
  config ID will help topology to find the DAI format to set on init.
  Topology provides this as a fallback if such HW settings are not
  available in ACPI or device tree, to avoid hard code in drivers. It's
  only for config items that can be programmed by SW or FW, not for
  physical things like link connections or GPIO used for HP etc.

- flags and private data
  The flags will be used to configure an existing physical DAI link.
  The private data is reserved for future extension.

NOTE: Current kernel has no support for physical links. A later patch
will add support for configuring physical links and make the support
backward compatible for ABI v4.

6bd9dcf339 ASoC: Intel: Skylake: Add support for specifying D0i3 configuration
Not all use cases can support Doi3. Only certain use cases like hot word
detection, deep buffering can support D0i3 based on resource requirement.

So, pass the D0i3 capability for the FE/BE copier using topology. This will
be used to take a decision for D0i3 mode entry/exit.

717a8e7235 ASoC: topology: ABI - Add flags and private data to PCM
This is the remaining update to PCM ABI object of version 5.

The flags will be applied to FE (Front End) links and can also be used
by physical links. The private data is reserved for future extension, so
offset update will add the private data size.

Now user space is using ABI v4, and the previous patch "ASoC: topology:
make PCM backward compatible from ABI v4" can assure the backward
compatibility.

Users start to use topology ABI from v4. ABI v5 updated existing manifest
and PCM elements. Two previous patches can support these ABI updates in a
backward compatible way. So if the topology file from user space is
generated by ABI v4, kernel will no longer quit but continue parsing.

7c45e3cc6a ASoC: topology: Reenable use from userspace
We had inserted a #error into the topology UAPI code to ensure that the
ABI was not adopted by userspace while final review and testing was
ongoing.  The idea was that some finishing touches would be made to the
ABI before declaring it stable and suitable for use in production but
this has not yet happened as more than a year later revisions to the ABI
are still onging.

The reality however is that people are shipping topology files in
production and these ABI changes are causing practical issues for users
and we can't break userspace.  This makes this error pointless so we
should remove it.

318824d3d0 ALSA: control: cage TLV_DB_RANGE_HEAD in kernel land because it was obsoleted
In commit bf1d1c9b61 ("ALSA: tlv: add DECLARE_TLV_DB_RANGE()"), the new
macro was added so that "dB range information can be specified without
having to count the items manually for TLV_DB_RANGE_HEAD()". In short,
TLV_DB_RANGE_HEAD macro was obsoleted.

In commit 46e860f768 ("ALSA: rename TLV-related macros so that they're
friendly to user applications"), TLV-related macros are exposed for
applications in user land to get content of data structured by
Type/Length/Value shape. The commit managed to expose TLV-related macros
as many as possible, while obsoleted TLV_DB_RANGE_HEAD() was included to
the list of exposed macros.

This situation brings some confusions to application developers because
they might think all exposed macros have their own purpose and useful for
applications.

For the reason, this commit moves TLV_DB_RANGE_HEAD macro from UAPI header
to a header for kernel land, again. The above commit is done within the
same development period for kernel 4.9, thus not published yet. This
commit might certainly brings no confusions to user land.

We must do it this way, because e.g. POD X3 won't play any sound unless
the host listens on the bulk EP, so we cannot export it only via libusb.

The driver currently doesn't use the bulk EP messages in other way,
in future it could e.g. sense/modify volume(s).

In a previous commit, some macros newly appeared to UAPI header for TLV
packet. These macros have short names and they easily bring name conflist
to applications. The conflict can be avoided to rename them with a proper
prefix.

For this purpose, this commit renames these macros with prefix
'SNDRV_CTL_TLVD_'.

398fa4db6c ALSA: control: move layout of TLV payload to UAPI header
In ALSA control interface, each element set can have threshold level
information. This information is transferred between drivers/applications,
in a shape of tlv packet. The layout of this packet is defined in
'uapi/sound/asound.h' (struct snd_ctl_tlv):

Data in the payload (struct snd_ctl_tlv.tlv) is expected to be filled
according to our own protocol. This protocol is described in
'include/sound/tlv.h'. A layout of the payload is expected as:

struct snd_ctl_tlv.tlv[0]: one of SNDRV_CTL_TLVT_XXX
struct snd_ctl_tlv.tlv[1]: Length of data
struct snd_ctl_tlv.tlv[2...]: data

Unfortunately, the macro is not exported to user land yet, thus
applications cannot get to know the protocol.

Additionally, ALSA control core has a feature called as 'user-defined'
element set. This allows applications to add/remove arbitrary element sets
with elements to control devices. Elements in the element set can be
operated by the same way as the ones added by in-kernel implementation.

For threshold level information of 'user-defined' element set, applications
need to register the information to an element set. However, as described
above, layout of the payload is closed in kernel land. This is quite
inconvenient, too.

This commit moves the protocol to UAPI header for TLV.
