As usual, the available documentation is inadequate and leaves endianness
unspecified for message data. However, testing shows that this patch does
improve correctness. The mistake should have been detected earlier but it
was obscured by other bugs. In testing, this patch reinstated pre-v5.9
behaviour. The old driver bugs remain and ADB input devices may stop
working. But that appears to be unrelated.

The behaviour of the IOP firmware is not well documented but we do know
that IOP message reply data can be used to issue new ADB commands.
Use the message reply to better control autopoll behaviour by sending
a Talk Register 0 command after every ADB response, not unlike the
algorithm in the via-macii driver. This poll command is addressed to
that device which last received a Talk command (explicit or otherwise).

A recent patch incorrectly altered the adb-iop state machine behaviour
and introduced a regression that can appear intermittently as a
malfunctioning ADB input device. This seems to be caused when reply
packets from different ADB commands become mixed up, especially during
the adb bus scan. Fix this by unconditionally entering the awaiting_reply
state after sending an explicit command, even when the ADB command won't
generate a reply from the ADB device.
It turns out that the IOP always generates reply messages, even when the
ADB command does not produce a reply packet (e.g. ADB Listen command).
So it's not really the ADB reply packets that are being mixed up, it's the
IOP messages that enclose them. The bug goes like this:
1. CPU sends a message to the IOP, expecting no response because this
message contains an ADB Listen command. The ADB command is now
considered complete.
2. CPU sends a second message to the IOP, this time expecting a
response because this message contains an ADB Talk command. This
ADB command needs a reply before it can be completed.
3. adb-iop driver receives an IOP message and assumes that it relates
to the Talk command. It's actually an empty one (with flags ==
ADB_IOP_EXPLICIT|ADB_IOP_TIMEOUT) for the previous command. The
Talk command is now considered complete but it gets the wrong reply
data.
4. adb-iop driver gets another IOP response message, which contains
the actual reply data for the Talk command, but this is dropped
(the driver is no longer in awaiting_reply state).

Userspace applications may use /dev/adb to send Talk requests. Such
requests always have req->reply_expected == 1. The same is true of Talk
requests sent by the kernel, except for poll requests queued internally
by the via-macii driver. Those requests have req->reply_expected == 0.
Consequently, poll reply packets get treated like autopoll reply packets.
(It doesn't make sense to try to distinguish them.) Always enter 'reading'
state after a poll request, so that the reply gets collected and passed
to adb_input(), and none go missing.
All Talk replies passed to adb_input() come from polling or autopolling,
so call adb_input() with the autopoll parameter set to 1.

The driver state machine may enter the 'read_done' state when leaving the
'idle' or 'reading' state. This transition is pointless, as is the extra
interrupt it requires. The interrupt is produced by the transceiver
(even when it has no data to send) because an extra EVEN/ODD toggle
was signalled by the driver. Drop the extra state to simplify the code.

interpreted by MacOS to mean SRQ, bus timeout or end-of-packet depending
on the circumstances, and that Linux's via-macii driver does not
correctly interpret this signal.
Instead, the via-macii driver interprets certain received byte values
(0x00 and 0xFF) as signalling end of packet and bus timeout
(respectively). Problem is, those values can also appear under other
circumstances.
This patch changes the bus timeout, end of packet and SRQ detection logic
to bring it closer to the logic that MacOS reportedly uses.

Poll the most recently polled device by default, rather than the lowest
device address that happens to be enabled in autopoll_devs. This improves
input latency. Re-use macii_queue_poll() rather than duplicate that logic.
This eliminates a static struct and function.

The adb_driver.autopoll method is needed during ADB bus scan and device
address assignment. Implement this method so that the IOP's list of
device addresses can be updated. When the list is empty, disable SRQ
autopolling.

In the present algorithm, the 'idle' state transition does not take
place until there's a bus timeout. Once idle, the driver does not
automatically proceed with the next request.
Change the algorithm so that queued ADB requests will be sent as soon as
the driver becomes idle. This is to take place after the current IOP
message is completed.

Instead of having all the sysctl handlers deal with user pointers, which
is rather hairy in terms of the BPF interaction, copy the input to and
from userspace in common code. This also means that the strings are
always NUL-terminated by the common code, making the API a little bit
safer.
As most handler just pass through the data to one of the common handlers
a lot of the changes are mechnical.

Commit af503716ac made sure OF devices get an OF style modalias with
I2C events. It assumed all in-tree users were converted, yet it missed
some Macintosh drivers.
Add an OF module device table for all windfarm drivers to make them
automatically load again.

Removing attach_adapter from this driver caused a regression for at
least some machines. Those machines had the sensors described in their
DT, too, so they didn't need manual creation of the sensor devices. The
old code worked, though, because manual creation came first. Creation of
DT devices then failed later and caused error logs, but the sensors
worked nonetheless because of the manually created devices.
When removing attach_adaper, manual creation now comes later and loses
the race. The sensor devices were already registered via DT, yet with
another binding, so the driver could not be bound to it.
This fix refactors the code to remove the race and only manually creates
devices if there are no DT nodes present. Also, the DT binding is updated
to match both, the DT and manually created devices. Because we don't
know which device creation will be used at runtime, the code to start
the kthread is moved to do_probe() which will be called by both methods.

Replace the CPU device PM QoS used for the management of min and max
frequency constraints in cpufreq (and its users) with per-policy
frequency QoS to avoid problems with cpufreq policies covering
more then one CPU.
Namely, a cpufreq driver is registered with the subsys interface
which calls cpufreq_add_dev() for each CPU, starting from CPU0, so
currently the PM QoS notifiers are added to the first CPU in the
policy (i.e. CPU0 in the majority of cases).
In turn, when the cpufreq driver is unregistered, the subsys interface
doing that calls cpufreq_remove_dev() for each CPU, starting from CPU0,
and the PM QoS notifiers are only removed when cpufreq_remove_dev() is
called for the last CPU in the policy, say CPUx, which as a rule is
not CPU0 if the policy covers more than one CPU. Then, the PM QoS
notifiers cannot be removed, because CPUx does not have them, and
they are still there in the device PM QoS notifiers list of CPU0,
which prevents new PM QoS notifiers from being registered for CPU0
on the next attempt to register the cpufreq driver.
The same issue occurs when the first CPU in the policy goes offline
before unregistering the driver.
After this change it does not matter which CPU is the policy CPU at
the driver registration time and whether or not it is online all the
time, because the frequency QoS is per policy and not per CPU.

The cpufreq core now takes the min/max frequency constraints via QoS
requests and the CPUFREQ_ADJUST notifier shall get removed later on.
Switch over to using the QoS request for maximum frequency constraint
for windfarm_cpufreq_clamp driver.

On most arches having function flush_dcache_range(), including PPC32,
this function does a writeback and invalidation of the cache bloc.
On PPC64, flush_dcache_range() only does a writeback while
flush_inval_dcache_range() does the invalidation in addition.
In addition it looks like within arch/powerpc/, there are no PPC64
platforms using flush_dcache_range()
This patch drops the existing 64 bits version of flush_dcache_range()
and renames flush_inval_dcache_range() into flush_dcache_range().

Add check for the return value of memblock_alloc*() functions and call
panic() in case of error. The panic message repeats the one used by
panicing memblock allocators with adjustment of parameters to include
only relevant ones.
The replacement was mostly automated with semantic patches like the one

The memblock_alloc_base() function tries to allocate a memory up to the
limit specified by its max_addr parameter and panics if the allocation
fails. Replace its usage with memblock_phys_alloc_range() and make the

Certain Cuda transfers have to be ended by the driver. According
to Apple's open source Cuda driver, as found in mkLinux and XNU, this
applies to any "open ended request such as PRAM read". This fixes an
infinite polling loop in cuda_pram_read_byte().

Nobody has actually used the type (VERIFY_READ vs VERIFY_WRITE) argument
of the user address range verification function since we got rid of the
old racy i386-only code to walk page tables by hand.
It existed because the original 80386 would not honor the write protect
bit when in kernel mode, so you had to do COW by hand before doing any
user access. But we haven't supported that in a long time, and these
days the 'type' argument is a purely historical artifact.
A discussion about extending 'user_access_begin()' to do the range
checking resulted this patch, because there is no way we're going to
move the old VERIFY_xyz interface to that model. And it's best done at
the end of the merge window when I've done most of my merges, so let's
just get this done once and for all.
This patch was mostly done with a sed-script, with manual fix-ups for
the cases that weren't of the trivial 'access_ok(VERIFY_xyz' form.
There were a couple of notable cases:
- csky still had the old "verify_area()" name as an alias.
- the iter_iov code had magical hardcoded knowledge of the actual
values of VERIFY_{READ,WRITE} (not that they mattered, since nothing
really used it)
- microblaze used the type argument for a debug printout
but other than those oddities this should be a total no-op patch.
I tried to fix up all architectures, did fairly extensive grepping for
access_ok() uses, and the changes are trivial, but I may have missed
something. Any missed conversion should be trivially fixable, though.

Convert string compares of DT node names to use of_node_name_{eq,prefix}
helpers instead. This removes direct access to the node name pointer.
This changes a single case insensitive node name comparison to case
sensitive for "ata4". This is the only instance of a case insensitive
comparison for all the open coded node name comparisons on powerpc.
Searching the commit history, there doesn't appear to be any reason for
it to be case insensitive.
A couple of open coded iterating thru the child node names are converted
to use for_each_child_of_node() instead.

When a memblock allocation APIs are called with align = 0, the alignment
is implicitly set to SMP_CACHE_BYTES.
Implicit alignment is done deep in the memblock allocator and it can
come as a surprise. Not that such an alignment would be wrong even
when used incorrectly but it is better to be explicit for the sake of
clarity and the prinicple of the least surprise.
Replace all such uses of memblock APIs with the 'align' parameter
explicitly set to SMP_CACHE_BYTES and stop implicit alignment assignment
in the memblock internal allocation functions.
For the case when memblock APIs are used via helper functions, e.g. like
iommu_arena_new_node() in Alpha, the helper functions were detected with
Coccinelle's help and then manually examined and updated where
appropriate.

The alloc_bootmem(size) is a shortcut for allocation of SMP_CACHE_BYTES
aligned memory. When the align parameter of memblock_alloc() is 0, the
alignment is implicitly set to SMP_CACHE_BYTES and thus alloc_bootmem(size)
and memblock_alloc(size, 0) are equivalent.

Modifying the request queue or changing the current state requires
mutual exclusion. Use local_irq_disable() consistently for this
rather than disabling the ADB interrupt. This simplifies the locking
scheme and brings via-macii into line with the other ADB drivers.

The BUG_ON assertions I added to the via-macii driver over a decade ago
haven't fired AFAIK. Some can never fire (by inspection). One assertion
checks for a NULL pointer, but that would merely substitute a BUG crash
for an Oops crash. Remove the pointless BUG_ON assertions and replace
the others with a WARN_ON and an array bounds check.

Make the reset operation synchronous, like the other ADB drivers.
The reset request is static data but callers may not know that.
This way the struct is not in use when the reset method returns.

Avoid the KERN_CONT problem by avoiding message fragments. The problem
arises during async ADB bus probing, when ADB messages may get mixed up
with other messages. See also, commit 4bcc595ccd ("printk: reinstate
KERN_CONT for printing continuation lines").
Remove a number of printk() continuation lines by logging handler
changes in adb_try_handler_change() instead.
This patch addresses the problematic use of "\n" at the beginning of
pr_cont() messages, which got overlooked in commit f2be629568
("macintosh/adb: Properly mark continued kernel messages").
That commit also changed printk(KERN_DEBUG ...) to pr_debug(...), which
hinders work on low-level ADB driver bugs. Revert that change.

Now that the 68k Mac port has adopted the via-pmu driver, the same RTC
code can be shared between m68k and powerpc. Replace duplicated code in
arch/powerpc and arch/m68k with common RTC accessors for Cuda and PMU.
Drop the problematic WARN_ON which was introduced in commit 22db552b50
("powerpc/powermac: Fix rtc read/write functions").

Some of the event counters are overloaded which makes it very
difficult to interpret their values.
Counter 0 is supposed to report CB1 interrupts but it can also count
PMU_INT_WAITING_CHARGER events.
Counter 1 is supposed to report GPIO interrupts but it can also count
other events (depending upon the value of the PMU_INT_ADB bit).
Disambiguate these statistics with dedicated counters for GPIO and
CB1 interrupts.
Comments in the MkLinux source code say that the type 0 and type 1
interrupts are model-specific. Label them as "unknown".
This change to the contents of /proc/pmu/interrupts is by necessity
visible in userland. However, packages which interact with the PMU
(that is, pbbuttonsd, pmac-utils and pmud) don't open this file.
AFAIK, user software has no need to poll these counters.

Don't load the via-pmu68k driver on early PowerBooks. The M50753 PMU
device found in those models was never supported by this driver.
Attempting to load the driver usually causes a boot hang.

At present, CONFIG_ADB_PMU depends on CONFIG_PPC_PMAC. When this gets
relaxed to CONFIG_PPC_PMAC || CONFIG_MAC, those Kconfig symbols with
implicit deps on PPC_PMAC will need explicit deps. Add them now.

Put #ifdefs around the Open Firmware, xmon, interrupt dispatch,
battery and suspend code. Add the necessary interrupt handling to
support m68k PowerBooks.
The pmu_kind value is available to userspace using the
PMU_IOC_GET_MODEL ioctl. It is not clear yet what hardware classes
are be needed to describe m68k PowerBook models, so pmu_kind is given
the provisional value PMU_UNKNOWN.
To find out about the hardware, user programs can use /proc/bootinfo
or /proc/hardware, or send the PMU_GET_VERSION command using /dev/adb.

On most PowerPC Macs, the PMU driver uses the shift register and
IO port B from a single VIA chip.
On 68k and early PowerPC PowerBooks, the driver uses the shift register
from one VIA chip together with IO port B from another.
Replace via with via1 and via2 to accommodate this. For the
CONFIG_PPC_PMAC case, set via1 = via2 so there is no change.

On 68k Macs, the via/vias pointer can't be used to determine whether
the PMU driver has been initialized. For portability, add a new state
to indicate that via_find_pmu() succeeded.
After via_find_pmu() executes, testing vias == NULL is equivalent to
testing via == NULL. Replace these tests with pmu_state == uninitialized
which is simpler and more consistent. No functional change.

The pmu_init() function has the __init qualifier, but the ops struct
that holds a pointer to it does not. This causes a build warning.
The driver works fine because the pointer is only dereferenced early.
The function is so small that there's negligible benefit from using
the __init qualifier. Remove it to fix the warning, consistent with
the other ADB drivers.

The PMU watchdog will power down the system if the kernel is slow
to start up, e.g. due to unpacking a large initrd. The powerpc
version of this driver (via-pmu.c) has a solution for the same
problem. It uses this call sequence:

We have expected busses to set up a coherent mask to properly use the
common dma mapping code for a long time, and now that I've added a warning
macio turned out to not set one up yet. This sets it to the same value
as the dma_mask, which seems to be what the drivers expect.

NOTE! On almost all architectures, the EPOLL* constants have the same
values as the POLL* constants do. But they keyword here is "almost".

The next patch from Al will sort out the final differences, and we
should be all done.

pci_get_bus_and_slot() is restrictive such that it assumes domain=0 as
where a PCI device is present. This restricts the device drivers to be
reused for other domain numbers.
Getting ready to remove pci_get_bus_and_slot() function in favor of
pci_get_domain_bus_and_slot().
Hard-code the domain number as 0 to match the previous behavior.

The IOP interrupt handler iop_ism_irq() is used by the adb-iop

makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.
By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.
Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.
This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.
How this work was done:
Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
- file had no licensing information it it.
- file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
- file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,
Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.
The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.
The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
- Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
- Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
lines of source
- File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
lines).
All documentation files were explicitly excluded.
The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.
- when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
COPYING file license applied.
For non */uapi/* files that summary was:

- when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
the concluded license(s).
- when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.
- In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).
- When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
- If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
in time.
In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.
Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.
Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.
In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.
Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
- a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
license ids and scores
- reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
- reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
SPDX license was correct
This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.
These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

The modalias sysfs attr is lacking a newline for DT aliases on platform
devices. The macio and ibmebus correctly add the newline, but open code it.
Introduce a new function, of_device_modalias(), that fills the buffer with
the modalias including the newline and update users of the old
of_device_get_modalias function.

This was caused by the device having NULL dma_ops, triggering the
BUG_ON(). Previously the device inherited its dma_ops via the assignment
to dev->ofdev.dev.archdata. However after commit 5657933dbb the
dma_ops are moved into dev->ofdev.dev, and so they need to be explicitly
copied.

The Egret system controller was the predecessor to the Cuda and the
differences are minor.
On Cuda, byte acknowledgement requires one transition of the TACK
signal; on Egret two are needed. On Cuda, TIP is active low; on Egret
it is active high. And Cuda raises certain interrupts that Egret omits.
Accomodating these differences complicates the Cuda driver slightly
but avoids a lot of duplication (see next patch).

Initialize data_index where appropriate to improve readability and
assist debugging. This change doesn't affect driver behaviour.
I prefer to see
current_req->data[data_index++]
in place of
current_req->data[0]
or
current_req->data[1]
inasmuchas it becomes obvious what the data_index variable does.
Moreover, the actual value of data_index when examined at any given moment
tells me something about prior events, which did prove helpful.

The cuda_start() function uses spinlock_irq_save/restore for mutual
exclusion. Let's have cuda_poll() do the same when polling the VIA
interrupt.
The benefit to disabling local irqs when the interrupt is being polled
is that the interrupt handler now has the same timing properties
regardless of whether it is invoked normally or from cuda_poll().
This driver was written back when local irqs remained enabled during
execution of interrupt handlers and cuda_poll() was probably trying
to achieve the same effect by use of enable/disable_irq.

When a read transaction completes, one of several things will happen:
a new transfer is started by the driver, a new transfer request
is raised by the Cuda (i.e. TREQ asserted), or both happen at once.
When both happen at once, there is a race condition between the TREQ test
in the read_done state and the same test in cuda_start(). Moreover, the
former test uses a stale TREQ value.
Theoretically, this can result in the undesirable outcome that the
interrupt handler completes with the state machine 'idle' when it should
instead start the next transaction.
Avoid this race by calling cuda_start() first and then confirming that it
succeeded. If not, test the current TREQ value before entering the
'reading' state.

When reading_reply is set, reply_ptr points into an adb_request struct.
Conversely, when reply_ptr instead points into the global cuda_rbuf,
reading_reply must be false.
Unfortunately, this rule can be violated because re-initialization
of reply_ptr and reading_reply presently depends on the TREQ input.
Fix this by re-initializing reply_ptr and reading_reply as soon as they
are known to be invalid.

If the Cuda driver does not enter the 'read_done' state for some
reason, it may continue in the 'reading' state until the buffer
overflows. Add a bounds check to prevent this.
