Export the sleepable kfuncs we have on HID-BPF in tracing bpf programs,
but with the condition of being used in a sleepable context.
This allows to use the bpf_timer when used in a sleepable context
through bpf_timer_set_sleepable_cb() and initiate work from a device event.

It can be interesting to inject events from BPF as if the event were
to come from the device.
For example, some multitouch devices do not all the time send a proximity
out event, and we might want to send it for the physical device.
Compared to uhid, we can now inject events on any physical device, not
just uhid virtual ones.

We currently only export hid_hw_raw_request() as a BPF kfunc.
However, some devices require an explicit write on the Output Report
instead of the use of the control channel.
So also export hid_hw_output_report to BPF

need to be scaled back to milliseconds. Setting the LED blinking via

In af93a167ed, i2c_hid_parse was changed to continue with reading the
report descriptor before waiting for reset to be acknowledged.
This has lead to two regressions:
1. We fail to handle reset acknowledgment if it happens while reading
the report descriptor. The transfer sets I2C_HID_READ_PENDING, which
causes the IRQ handler to return without doing anything.
This affects both a Wacom touchscreen and a Sensel touchpad.
2. On a Sensel touchpad, reading the report descriptor this quickly
after reset results in all zeroes or partial zeroes.
The issues were observed on the Lenovo Thinkpad Z16 Gen 2.
The change in question was made based on a Microsoft article[0] stating
that Windows 8 *may* read the report descriptor in parallel with
awaiting reset acknowledgment, intended as a slight reset performance
optimization. Perhaps they only do this if reset is not completing
quickly enough for their tastes?
As the code is not currently ready to read registers in parallel with a
pending reset acknowledgment, and as reading quickly breaks the report
descriptor on the Sensel touchpad, revert to waiting for reset
acknowledgment before proceeding to read the report descriptor.

Some vendors reuse the same product ID for different tablets, making it
difficult for userspace to figure out which table is connected.
While matching the device name has been used in the past by userspace to
workaround this limitation, some devices have shown that this is not
always a valid approach [1].
However, if userspace could access the firmware version name, it would
be possible to know which tablet is actually connected by matching it
against a list of known firmware names [2].
This patch exposes the firmware version name in the hid->uniq field.

Hid-debug's rdesc output for a game controller contained a few question
marks and numeric IDs instead of the expected descriptive names.
This happens because:
1) the mapping data is missing event codes defined in input-event-codes.h
2) HID usages aren't up to date
3) hid_resolv_usage fails to account for the sensor pages' modifiers
Add missing event codes and update HID to HUT 1.5.

WinWing Orion2 throttle works with Linux out of box,
but the kernel sees only 16 of 47 buttons on the throttle base.
This module enables all buttons, and also adds LED controls.
Button numbers 0 .. 63 on Orion2 are reserved for throttle grip;
the throttle base buttons have numbers 64 .. 110.
Linux kernel HID subsystem only supports up to 80 buttons.
Remap throttle base buttons to numbers 32 .. 78,
reserving only numbers 0 .. 31 for buttons on the grip handle.

The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes
many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by
returning an error code. However the value returned is ignored (apart
from emitting a warning) and this typically results in resource leaks.
To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return
void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to
.remove_new(), which already returns void. Eventually after all drivers
are converted, .remove_new() will be renamed to .remove().
Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove

This patch is regarding the recent addition of support for the NSO
controllers to hid-nintendo. All controllers are working correctly with the
exception of the N64 controller, which is being identified as a mouse by
udev. This results in the joystick controlling the mouse cursor and the
controller not being detected by games.
The reason for this is because the N64's C buttons have been attributed to
BTN_FORWARD, BTN_BACK, BTN_LEFT, BTN_RIGHT, which are buttons typically
attributed to mice.
This patch changes those buttons to controller buttons, making the
controller be correctly identified as such.

The flag I2C_HID_READ_PENDING is used to serialize I2C operations.
However, this is not necessary, because I2C core already has its own
locking for that.
More importantly, this flag can cause a lock-up: if the flag is set in
i2c_hid_xfer() and an interrupt happens, the interrupt handler
(i2c_hid_irq) will check this flag and return immediately without doing
anything, then the interrupt handler will be invoked again in an
infinite loop.
Since interrupt handler is an RT task, it takes over the CPU and the
flag-clearing task never gets scheduled, thus we have a lock-up.
Delete this unnecessary flag.

The xf86-input-wacom driver does not treat '0' as a valid serial
number and will drop any input report which contains an
MSC_SERIAL = 0 event. The kernel driver already takes care to
avoid sending any MSC_SERIAL event if the value of serial[0] == 0
(which is the case for devices that don't actually report a
serial number), but this is not quite sufficient.
Only the lower 32 bits of the serial get reported to userspace,
so if this portion of the serial is zero then there can still
be problems.
This commit allows the driver to report either the lower 32 bits
if they are non-zero or the upper 32 bits otherwise.

After legacy suspend/resume via ACPI S3, sensor read operation fails
with timeout. Also, it will cause delay in resume operation as there
will be retries on failure.
This is caused by commit f645a90e8f ("HID: intel-ish-hid:
ishtp-hid-client: use helper functions for connection"), which used
helper functions to simplify connect, reset and disconnect process.
Also avoid freeing and allocating client buffers again during reconnect
process.
But there is a case, when ISH firmware resets after ACPI S3 suspend,
ishtp bus driver frees client buffers. Since there is no realloc again
during reconnect, there are no client buffers available to send connection
requests to the firmware. Without successful connection to the firmware,
subsequent sensor reads will timeout.
To address this issue, ishtp bus driver does not free client buffers on
warm reset after S3 resume. Simply add the buffers from the read list
to free list of buffers.

If a input device is opened before hid_hw_start is called, events may
not be received from the hardware. In the case of USB-backed devices,
for example, the hid_hw_start function is responsible for filling in
the URB which is submitted when the input device is opened. If a device
is opened prematurely, polling will never start because the device will
not have been in the correct state to send the URB.
Because the wacom driver registers its input devices before calling
hid_hw_start, there is a window of time where a device can be opened
and end up in an inoperable state. Some ARM-based Chromebooks in particular
reliably trigger this bug.
This commit splits the wacom_register_inputs function into two pieces.
One which is responsible for setting up the allocated inputs (and runs
prior to hid_hw_start so that devices are ready for any input events
they may end up receiving) and another which only registers the devices
(and runs after hid_hw_start to ensure devices can be immediately opened
without issue). Note that the functions to initialize the LEDs and remotes
are also moved after hid_hw_start to maintain their own dependency chains.

This commit marks kfuncs as such inside the .BTF_ids section. The upshot
of these annotations is that we'll be able to automatically generate
kfunc prototypes for downstream users. The process is as follows:
1. In source, use BTF_KFUNCS_START/END macro pair to mark kfuncs
2. During build, pahole injects into BTF a "bpf_kfunc" BTF_DECL_TAG for
each function inside BTF_KFUNCS sets
3. At runtime, vmlinux or module BTF is made available in sysfs
4. At runtime, bpftool (or similar) can look at provided BTF and
generate appropriate prototypes for functions with "bpf_kfunc" tag
To ensure future kfunc are similarly tagged, we now also return error
inside kfunc registration for untagged kfuncs. For vmlinux kfuncs,
we also WARN(), as initcall machinery does not handle errors.

Follow the docs at Documentation/bpf/kfuncs.rst:
- declare the function with `__bpf_kfunc`
- disables missing prototype warnings, which allows to remove them from
include/linux/hid-bpf.h
Removing the prototypes is not an issue because we currently have to
redeclare them when writing the BPF program. They will eventually be
generated by bpftool directly AFAIU.

When the kfunc hid_bpf_attach_prog() is called, we called twice fdget():
one for fetching the type of the bpf program, and one for actually
attaching the program to the device.
The problem is that between those two calls, we have no guarantees that
the prog_fd is still the same file descriptor for the given program.
Solve this by calling bpf_prog_get() earlier, and use this to fetch the
program type.

There's a Cirque touchpad that wakes system up without anything touched
the touchpad. The input report is empty when this happens.
The reason is stated in HID over I2C spec, 7.2.8.2:
"If the DEVICE wishes to wake the HOST from its low power state, it can
issue a wake by asserting the interrupt."
This is fine if OS can put system back to suspend by identifying input
wakeup count stays the same on resume, like Chrome OS Dark Resume [0].
But for regular distro such policy is lacking.
Though the change doesn't bring any impact on power consumption for
touchpad is minimal, other i2c-hid device may depends on SLEEP control
power. So use a quirk to limit the change scope.

Pull drm updates from Dave Airlie:
"This contains two major new drivers:
- imagination is a first driver for Imagination Technologies devices,
it only covers very specific devices, but there is hope to grow it
- xe is a reboot of the i915 GPU (shares display) side using a more
upstream focused development model, and trying to maximise code
sharing. It's not enabled for any hw by default, and will hopefully
get switched on for Intel's Lunarlake.
This also drops a bunch of the old UMS ioctls. It's been dead long
enough.
amdgpu has a bunch of new color management code that is being used in
the Steam Deck.
amdgpu also has a new ACPI WBRF interaction to help avoid radio
interference.
Otherwise it's the usual lots of changes in lots of places.
Detailed summary:
new drivers:
- imagination - new driver for Imagination Technologies GPU
- xe - new driver for Intel GPUs using core drm concepts

Current amd_sfh driver has float_to_int() to convert units from
float to int. This is fine until this function gets called outside of
the current scope of file.
Add a prefix "amd_sfh" to float_to_int() so that function represents
the driver name. This function will be called by multiple callers in the
next patch.

This commit adds a hotkey to switch between "gamepad" mode (mouse and keyboard
disabled) and "desktop" mode (gamepad disabled) by holding down the options
button (mapped here as the start button). This mirrors the behavior of the
official Steam client.
This also adds and uses a function for generating haptic pulses, as Steam also
does when engaging this hotkey.

SDL includes a list of settings (formerly called registers in this driver),
reports (formerly cmds), and various other identifiers that were provided by
Valve. This commit imports a significant chunk of that list as well as
replacing most of the guessed names and a handful of magic constants. It also
replaces bitmask definitions that used hex with the BIT macro.

The client_opened variable was used to track if the hidraw was opened by any
clients to silence keyboard/mouse events while opened. However, there was no
counting of how many clients were opened, so opening two at the same time and
then closing one would fool the driver into thinking it had no remaining opened
clients.

This cleans up the locking logic so that the spinlock is consistently used for
access to a small handful of struct variables, and the mutex is exclusively and
consistently used for ensuring that mutliple threads aren't trying to
send/receive reports at the same time. Previously, only some report
transactions were guarded by this mutex, potentially breaking atomicity. The
mutex has been renamed to reflect this usage.

The original implementation of this driver incorrectly guessed the function of
this register. It's not only unnecessary to write to this register for lizard
mode but actually counter-productive since it overwrites whatever previous
value was intentionally set, for example by Steam.

After the commit 666cf30a58 ("HID: sensor-hub: Allow multi-function
sensor devices") hub devices are claimed by hidraw driver in hid_connect().
This causes stoppping of processing HID reports by hid core due to
optimization.
In such case, the hid-sensor-custom driver cannot match a known custom
sensor in hid_sensor_custom_get_known() because it try to check custom
properties which weren't filled from the report because hid core didn't
parsed it.
As result, custom sensors like hinge angle sensor and LISS sensors
don't work.
Mark the sensor hub devices claimed by some driver to avoid hidraw-related
optimizations.

There appear to be a few different ways that Wacom devices can deal with
confidence:
1. If the device looses confidence in a touch, it will first clear
the tipswitch flag in one report, and then clear the confidence
flag in a second report. This behavior is used by e.g. DTH-2452.
2. If the device looses confidence in a touch, it will clear both
the tipswitch and confidence flags within the same report. This
behavior is used by some AES devices.
3. If the device looses confidence in a touch, it will clear *only*
the confidence bit. The tipswitch bit will remain set so long as
the touch is tracked. This behavior may be used in future devices.
The driver does not currently handle situation 3 properly. Touches that
loose confidence will remain "in prox" and essentially frozen in place
until the tipswitch bit is finally cleared. Not only does this result
in userspace seeing a stuck touch, but it also prevents pen arbitration
from working properly (the pen won't send events until all touches are
up, but we don't currently process events from non-confident touches).
This commit centralizes the checking of the confidence bit in the
wacom_wac_finger_slot() function and has 'prox' depend on it. In the
case where situation 3 is encountered, the treat the touch as though
it was removed, allowing both userspace and the pen arbitration to
act normally.

Since it's a divide-by-0 error, by tracking the code for potential
denominator issues, we've spotted 2 places in which this could happen;
so let's guard against the possibility and log in the kernel if the
condition happens. This is specially useful since some data that
fills some denominators are read from the joycon HW in some cases,
increasing the potential for flaws.

This adds support for the nintendo switch online controllers which
include the SNES, Genesis, and N64 Controllers.
As each nso controller only implements a subset of what a pro
controller can do. Each of these 'features' were broken up in to
seperate functions which include right stick, left stick, imu, and
dpad and depending on the controller type that it is, it will call
the supported functions appropriately.
Each controller now has a struct which maps the bit within the hid
in report to a button.
The name given to the device now comes directly from the hid
device name rather than looking up a predefined string.

Commit 46a0a2c96f ("HID: lenovo: Detect quirk-free fw on cptkbd and

TrackPoint Keyboard II which has similar quirks to cptkbd (so it uses
the same workarounds) but slightly different so that there are
false-positives during detecting well-behaving firmware. This commit
restricts detecting well-behaving firmware to the only model which
known to have one and have stable enough quirks to not cause
false-positives.

A recent bug made me look at Microsoft's i2c-hid docs again
and I noticed the following:
"""
4. Issue a RESET (Host Initiated Reset) to the Device.
5. Retrieve report descriptor from the device.
Note: Steps 4 and 5 may be done in parallel to optimize for time on I²C.
Since report descriptors are (a) static and (b) quite long, Windows 8 may
issue a request for 5 while it is waiting for a response from the device
on 4.
"""
Which made me think that maybe on some touchpads the reset ack is delayed
till after the report descriptor is read ?
Testing a T-BAO Tbook Air 12.5 with a 0911:5288 (SIPODEV SP1064?) touchpad,
for which the I2C_HID_QUIRK_NO_IRQ_AFTER_RESET quirk was first introduced,
shows that reading the report descriptor before waiting for the reset
helps with the missing reset IRQ. Now the reset does get acked properly,
but the ack sometimes still does not happen unfortunately.
Still moving the wait for ack to after reading the report-descriptor,
is probably a good idea, both to make i2c-hid's behavior closer to
Windows as well as to speed up probing i2c-hid devices.
While at it drop the dbg_hid() for a malloc failure, malloc failures
already get logged extensively by malloc itself.

For every ishtp client driver during initialization state, the flow is:
1 - Allocate an ISHTP client instance
2 - Reserve a host id and link the client instance
3 - Search a firmware client using UUID and get related
client information
4 - Bind firmware client id to the ISHTP client instance
5 - Set the state the ISHTP client instance to CONNECTING
6 - Send connect request to firmware
7 - Register event callback for messages from the firmware
During deinitizalization state, the flow is:
9 - Set the state the ISHTP client instance to ISHTP_CL_DISCONNECTING
10 - Issue disconnect request to firmware
11 - Unlike the client instance
12 - Flush message queue
13 - Free ISHTP client instance
Step 2-7 are identical to the steps of client driver initialization
and driver reset flow, but reallocation of the RX/TX ring buffers
can be avoided in reset flow.
Also for step 9-12, they are identical to the steps of client driver
failure handling after connect request, driver reset flow and
driver removing.

Presumably in the Windows ecosystem there is an application that
uses the HID device. Maybe that puts it into a lower power state so
it doesn't cause spurious events.
This device doesn't serve any functional purpose in Linux as nothing
interacts with it so blacklist it from being probed. This will
prevent the GPIO driver from setting up the GPIO and the spurious
interrupts and wake events will not occur.

The Glorious Model I mouse has a buggy HID report descriptor for its
keyboard endpoint (used for programmable buttons). For report ID 2, there
is a mismatch between Logical Minimum and Usage Minimum in the array that
reports keycodes.
The offending portion of the descriptor: (from hid-decode)
0x95, 0x05, // Report Count (5) 30
0x75, 0x08, // Report Size (8) 32
0x15, 0x00, // Logical Minimum (0) 34
0x25, 0x65, // Logical Maximum (101) 36
0x05, 0x07, // Usage Page (Keyboard) 38
0x19, 0x01, // Usage Minimum (1) 40
0x29, 0x65, // Usage Maximum (101) 42
0x81, 0x00, // Input (Data,Arr,Abs) 44
This bug shifts all programmed keycodes up by 1. Importantly, this causes
"empty" array indexes of 0x00 to be interpreted as 0x01, ErrorRollOver.
The presence of ErrorRollOver causes the system to ignore all keypresses
from the endpoint and breaks the ability to use the programmable buttons.
Setting byte 41 to 0x00 fixes this, and causes keycodes to be interpreted
correctly.
Also, USB_VENDOR_ID_GLORIOUS is changed to USB_VENDOR_ID_SINOWEALTH,

When a user requests more than 60 bytes of data the MCP2221 must chunk
the data in chunks up to 60 bytes long (see command/response code 0x40
in the datasheet).
In order to signal that the device has more data the (undocumented) byte
at byte index 2 of the Get I2C Data response uses the value 0x54. This
contrasts with the case for the final data chunk where the value
returned is 0x55 (MCP2221_I2C_READ_COMPL). The fact that 0x55 was not
returned in the response was interpreted by the driver as a failure
meaning that all reads of more than 60 bytes would fail.
Add support for reads that are split over multiple chunks by looking for
the response code indicating that more data is expected and continuing
the read as the code intended. Some timing delays are required to ensure
the chip has time to refill its FIFO as data is read in from the I2C
bus. This timing has been tested in my system when configured for bus
speeds of 50KHz, 100KHz, and 400KHz and operates well.

Since the initial commit of this driver the I2C bus speed has been
reconfigured for every single transfer. This is despite the fact that we
never change the speed and it is never "lost" by the chip.
Upon investigation we find that what was really happening was that the
setting of the bus speed had the side effect of cancelling a previous
failed command if there was one, thereby freeing the bus. This is the
part that was actually required to keep the bus operational in the face
of failed commands.
Instead of always setting the speed, we now correctly cancel any failed
commands as they are detected. This means we can just set the bus speed
at probe time and remove the previous speed sets on each transfer.
This has the effect of improving performance and reducing the number of
commands required to complete transfers.

In scenarios where an I2C device tree is defined in ACPI and exists off

During the probe we add an I2C adapter and as soon as we add that adapter
it may be used for a transfer (e.g via the code in i2cdetect()).
Those transfers are not able to complete and time out. This is because the
HID raw_event callback (mcp2221_raw_event) will not be invoked until the
HID device's 'driver_input_lock' is marked up at the completion of the
probe in hid_device_probe(). This starves the driver of the responses it
is waiting for.
In order to allow the I2C transfers to complete while we are still in the
probe, start the IO once we have completed init of the HID device.
This issue seems to have been seen before and a patch was submitted but

The process of adding an I2C adapter can invoke I2C accesses on that new
adapter (see i2c_detect()).
Ensure we have set the adapter's driver data to avoid null pointer
dereferences in the xfer functions during the adapter add.
This has been noted in the past and the same fix proposed but not
completed. See:

Added a gpiochip compatible driver to control the 8 GPIOs of
the MCP2200 by using the HID interface.
Using GPIOs with alternative functions (GP0<->SSPND, GP1<->USBCFG,
GP6<->RXLED, GP7<->TXLED) will reset the functions, if set (unset by
default).
The driver was tested while also using the UART of the chip. Setting
and reading the GPIOs has no effect on the UART communication. However,
a reset is triggered after the CONFIGURE command. If the GPIO Direction
is constantly changed, this will affect the communication at low baud
rates. This is a hardware problem of the MCP2200 and is not caused by
the driver.

hid_connect() will call hid_pidff_init() which does
hid_device_io_start() leading to an "io already started" warning.
To fix this call hid_device_io_stop() before calling hid_connect(),
stopping IO means that connect events may be lost while hid_connect()
runs, re-enable IO and move the hidpp_connect_event() work queuing
after the hid_connect().
Note re-enabling IO is also necessary for the g920_get_config()
call later during hidpp_probe().

HIDPP unifying is only checked once in probe() and it is also
set by probe() itself.
Drop the quirk and replace its one check by the condition which is
used to set the quirk in the first place.

Drop delayed_work_cb() instead make hidpp_connect_event() the workqueue
function itself.
Besides resulting in a small cleanup this will hopefully also make
it clearer that going forward hidpp_connect_event() should only
be run from a workqueue and not be directly invoked.

There is a connect event race in hidpp_probe() in these 2 lines:
connected = hidpp_root_get_protocol_version(hidpp) == 0;
atomic_set(&hidpp->connected, connected);
Specifically the following can happen:
1. This line from hidpp_probe() is executed:
connected = hidpp_root_get_protocol_version(hidpp) == 0;
and sets connected to false;
2. A connect-event packet is received and does:
atomic_set(&hidpp->connected, true);
3. The next line from hidpp_probe() is executed:
atomic_set(&hidpp->connected, connected);
and sets the atomic_t back to 0 again.
4. hidpp_connect_event() runs and sees the connected device
as disconnected because of this.
To fix this make hidpp_connect_event() query the connection status
of the device itself instead of having it rely on possibly stale
data cached in struct hidpp_device.

Move the hidpp_overwrite_name() call to before the connect check, this
puts it at the same place in the probe() order as hidpp_serial_init()
which seems more logical. This should not make a difference since this
is in the non-unifying path and only unifying devices can be probed
in non-connected state.
This is a preparation patch for moving all connected state handling
to hidpp_connect_event().
Doing this before the connect check requires dropping the protocol
version check since protocol_major is not set yet now. Instead
this relies on hidpp_root_get_feature(HIDPP_PAGE_GET_DEVICE_NAME_TYPE)
failing on older devices, just like how hidpp_get_serial() relies on
hidpp_root_get_feature(HIDPP_PAGE_DEVICE_INFORMATION) failing on older
devices. So this again makes the code more consistent.
Also stop printing an error on failure now, since with the proto
version check gone failures are expected to happen on older devices.

The data retrieved by g920_get_config() is only used by hidpp_ff_init().
Now that the hw is kept open till the end of probe() the g920_get_config()
call can be moved to just before hidpp_ff_init() to have all
the HIDPP_QUIRK_CLASS_G920 together in a single place.

For WTP devices which start disconnected (paired with the unifying
receiver, but not connected atm) hidpp_connect_event() takes care
of calling wtp_get_config() when the device later connects.
There is no need to have a separate code path for WTP devices which
are connected at probe() time, these can use the same code-path since
probe() will queue hidpp_connect_event() for those at probe time.
Drop the unnecessary wtp_get_config() call from probe().

Calling get_wireless_feature_index() from probe() causes
the wireless_feature_index to only get set for unifying devices which
are already connected at probe() time. It does not get set for devices
which connect later.
Fix this by moving get_wireless_feature_index() to hidpp_connect_event(),
this does not make a difference for devices connected at probe() since
probe() will queue the hidpp_connect_event() for those at probe time.

Commit 91cf9a98ae ("HID: logitech-hidpp: make .probe usbhid capable")
makes hidpp_probe() first call hid_hw_start(hdev, 0) to allow IO
without connecting any hid subdrivers (hid-input, hidraw).
This is done to allow to retrieve the device's name and serial number
and store these in hdev->name and hdev->uniq.
Then later on IO was stopped and started again with hid_hw_start(hdev,
HID_CONNECT_DEFAULT) connecting hid-input and hidraw after the name
and serial number have been setup.
Commit 498ba20690 ("HID: logitech-hidpp: Don't restart communication
if not necessary") changed the probe() code to only do the start with
a 0 connect-mask + restart later for unifying devices.
But for non unifying devices hdev->name and hdev->uniq are updated too.
So this change re-introduces the problem for which the start with
a 0 connect-mask + restart later behavior was introduced.
The previous patch in this series changes the unifying path to instead of
restarting IO only call hid_connect() later. This avoids possible issues
with restarting IO seen on non unifying devices.
Revert the change to limit the restart behavior to unifying devices to
fix hdev->name changing after userspace facing devices have already been
registered.

Restarting IO causes 2 problems:
1. Some devices do not like IO being restarted this was addressed in
commit 498ba20690 ("HID: logitech-hidpp: Don't restart communication
if not necessary"), but that change has issues of its own and needs to
be reverted.
2. Restarting IO and specifically calling hid_device_io_stop() causes
received packets to be missed, which may cause connect-events to
get missed.
Restarting IO was introduced in commit 91cf9a98ae ("HID: logitech-hidpp:
make .probe usbhid capable") to allow to retrieve the device's name and
serial number and store these in hdev->name and hdev->uniq before
connecting any hid subdrivers (hid-input, hidraw) exporting this info
to userspace.
But this does not require restarting IO, this merely requires deferring
calling hid_connect(). Calling hid_hw_start() with a connect-mask of
0 makes it skip calling hid_connect(), so hidpp_probe() can simply call
hid_connect() later without needing to restart IO.
Remove the stop + restart of IO and instead just call hid_connect() later
to avoid the issues caused by restarting IO.
Now that IO is no longer stopped, hid_hw_close() must be called at the end
of probe() to balance the hid_hw_open() done at the beginning probe().

The USB Compact Keyboard variant requires a reset_resume function to
restore keyboard configuration after a suspend in some situations. Move
configuration normally done on probe to lenovo_features_set_cptkbd(), then
recycle this for use on reset_resume.
Without, the keyboard and driver would end up in an inconsistent state,
breaking middle-button scrolling amongst other problems, and twiddling
sysfs values wouldn't help as the middle-button mode won't be set until
the driver is reloaded.

Previously cp2112_gpio_irq_shutdown() always cancelled the
gpio_poll_worker, even if other IRQs were still active, and did not set
the gpio_poll flag to false. This resulted in any call to _shutdown()
resulting in interrupts no longer functioning on the chip until a
_remove() occurred (a.e. the cp2112 is unplugged or system rebooted).
Only cancel polling if all IRQs are disabled/masked, and correctly set
the gpio_poll flag, allowing polling to restart when an interrupt is
next enabled.

hidpp_connect_event() has *four* time-of-check vs time-of-use (TOCTOU)
races when it races with itself.
hidpp_connect_event() primarily runs from a workqueue but it also runs
on probe() and if a "device-connected" packet is received by the hw
when the thread running hidpp_connect_event() from probe() is waiting on
the hw, then a second thread running hidpp_connect_event() will be
started from the workqueue.
This opens the following races (note the below code is simplified):
1. Retrieving + printing the protocol (harmless race):
if (!hidpp->protocol_major) {
hidpp_root_get_protocol_version()
hidpp->protocol_major = response.rap.params[0];
}
We can actually see this race hit in the dmesg in the abrt output
attached to rhbz#2227968:
[ 3064.624215] logitech-hidpp-device 0003:046D:4071.0049: HID++ 4.5 device connected.
[ 3064.658184] logitech-hidpp-device 0003:046D:4071.0049: HID++ 4.5 device connected.
Testing with extra logging added has shown that after this the 2 threads
take turn grabbing the hw access mutex (send_mutex) so they ping-pong
through all the other TOCTOU cases managing to hit all of them:
2. Updating the name to the HIDPP name (harmless race):
if (hidpp->name == hdev->name) {
...
hidpp->name = new_name;
}
3. Initializing the power_supply class for the battery (problematic!):
hidpp_initialize_battery()
{
if (hidpp->battery.ps)
return 0;
probe_battery(); /* Blocks, threads take turns executing this */
hidpp->battery.desc.properties =
devm_kmemdup(dev, hidpp_battery_props, cnt, GFP_KERNEL);
hidpp->battery.ps =
devm_power_supply_register(&hidpp->hid_dev->dev,
&hidpp->battery.desc, cfg);
}
4. Creating delayed input_device (potentially problematic):
if (hidpp->delayed_input)
return;
hidpp->delayed_input = hidpp_allocate_input(hdev);
The really big problem here is 3. Hitting the race leads to the following
sequence:
hidpp->battery.desc.properties =
devm_kmemdup(dev, hidpp_battery_props, cnt, GFP_KERNEL);
hidpp->battery.ps =
devm_power_supply_register(&hidpp->hid_dev->dev,
&hidpp->battery.desc, cfg);
...
hidpp->battery.desc.properties =
devm_kmemdup(dev, hidpp_battery_props, cnt, GFP_KERNEL);
hidpp->battery.ps =
devm_power_supply_register(&hidpp->hid_dev->dev,
&hidpp->battery.desc, cfg);
So now we have registered 2 power supplies for the same battery,
which looks a bit weird from userspace's pov but this is not even
the really big problem.
Notice how:
1. This is all devm-maganaged
2. The hidpp->battery.desc struct is shared between the 2 power supplies
3. hidpp->battery.desc.properties points to the result from the second
devm_kmemdup()
This causes a use after free scenario on USB disconnect of the receiver:
1. The last registered power supply class device gets unregistered
2. The memory from the last devm_kmemdup() call gets freed,
hidpp->battery.desc.properties now points to freed memory
3. The first registered power supply class device gets unregistered,
this involves sending a remove uevent to userspace which invokes
power_supply_uevent() to fill the uevent data
4. power_supply_uevent() uses hidpp->battery.desc.properties which
now points to freed memory leading to backtraces like this one:

There have been quite a few bug reports (see Link tags) about this crash.
Fix all the TOCTOU issues, including the really bad power-supply related
system crash on USB disconnect, by making probe() use the workqueue for
running hidpp_connect_event() too, so that it can never run more then once.

A recent commit reordered probe so that the interrupt line is now
requested before making sure that the device exists.
This breaks machines like the Lenovo ThinkPad X13s which rely on the
HID driver to probe second-source devices and only register the variant
that is actually populated. Specifically, the interrupt line may now
already be (temporarily) claimed when doing asynchronous probing of the
touchpad:
genirq: Flags mismatch irq 191. 00082008 (hid-over-i2c) vs. 00082008 (hid-over-i2c)
i2c_hid_of 21-0015: Could not register for hid-over-i2c interrupt, irq = 191, ret = -16
i2c_hid_of: probe of 21-0015 failed with error -16
Fix this by restoring the old behaviour of first making sure the device
exists before requesting the interrupt line.
Note that something like this should probably be implemented also for
"panel followers", whose actual probe is currently effectively deferred
until the DRM panel is probed (e.g. by powering down the device after
making sure it exists and only then register it as a follower).

The EHL (Elkhart Lake) based platforms provide a OOB (Out of band)
service, which allows to wakup device when the system is in S5 (Soft-Off
state). This OOB service can be enabled/disabled from BIOS settings. When
enabled, the ISH device gets PME wake capability. To enable PME wakeup,
driver also needs to enable ACPI GPE bit.
On resume, BIOS will clear the wakeup bit. So driver need to re-enable it
in resume function to keep the next wakeup capability. But this BIOS
clearing of wakeup bit doesn't decrement internal OS GPE reference count,
so this reenabling on every resume will cause reference count to overflow.
So first disable and reenable ACPI GPE bit using acpi_disable_gpe().

When suspending the computer, a Switch Pro Controller connected via USB will
lose its internal status. However, because the USB connection was technically
never lost, when resuming the computer, the driver will attempt to communicate
with the controller as if nothing happened (and fail).
Because of this, the user was forced to manually disconnect the controller
(or to press the sync button on the controller to power it off), so that it
can be re-initialized.
With this patch, the controller will be automatically re-initialized after
resuming from suspend.

- Support player LED patterns up to 8 players.
(Note that the behavior still consinsts in increasing the player number
every time a controller is connected, never decreasing it. It should be
as is described in https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=216225.
However, any implementation here would stop making sense as soon as a
non-Nintendo controller is connected, which is why I'm not bothering.)
- Split part of `joycon_home_led_brightness_set` (which is called by hid)
into `joycon_set_home_led` (which is what actually sets the LEDs), for
consistency with player LEDs.
- `joycon_player_led_brightness_set` won't try it to "determine which
player led this is" anymore: it's already looking at every LED
brightness value.
- Instead of first registering the `led_classdev`, then attempting to set
the LED and unregistering the `led_classdev` if it fails, first attempt
to set the LED, then register the `led_classdev` only if it succeeds
(the class is still filled up in either case).
- If setting the player LEDs fails, still attempt setting the home LED.
(I don't know there's a third party controller where this may actually
happen, but who knows...)
- Use `JC_NUM_LEDS` where appropriate instead of 4.
- Print return codes in more places.
- Use spinlock instead of mutex for `input_num`. Copy its value to a local
variable, so that it can be unlocked immediately.
- `input_num` starts counting from 0
- Less holding of mutexes in general.

Built-in firmware of cptkbd handles scrolling by itself (when middle
button is pressed) but with issues: it does not support horizontal and
hi-res scrolling and upon middle button release it sends middle button
click even if there was a scrolling event. Commit 3cb5ff0220 ("HID:
lenovo: Hide middle-button press until release") workarounds last
issue but it's impossible to workaround scrolling-related issues
without firmware modification.
Likely, Dennis Schneider has reverse engineered the firmware and
provided an instruction on how to patch it [1]. However,
aforementioned workaround prevents userspace (libinput) from knowing
exact moment when middle button has been pressed down and performing
"On-Button scrolling". This commit detects correctly-behaving patched
firmware if cursor movement events has been received during middle
button being pressed and stops applying workaround for this device.

The hid_hw_raw_request() function returns negative error codes or the
number bytes transferred. The problem is that when it returns negative
error codes and we check if "ret < sizeof(arctis_1_battery_request)",
then the negative values are type promoted from int to high unsigned long
values and treated as success.
This was detected using Smatch:
drivers/hid/hid-steelseries.c:393 steelseries_headset_arctis_1_fetch_battery()
warn: error code type promoted to positive: 'ret'

Use hid_device for devm allocation of the input_dev name to avoid a
use-after-free. input_unregister_device would trigger devres cleanup of all

Reference the HID device rather than the input device for the devm
allocation of the input_dev name. Referencing the input_dev would lead to a
use-after-free when the input_dev was unregistered and subsequently fires a
uevent that depends on the name. At the point of firing the uevent, the
name would be freed by devres management.

Presently, if a call to logi_dj_recv_send_report() fails, we do
not learn about the error until after sending short

To handle this somewhat unlikely issue, return on error in
logi_dj_recv_send_report() (minding ugly sleep workaround) and
take into account the result of hid_hw_raw_request().

The ili9882t is a TDDI IC (Touch with Display Driver). The
datasheet specifies there should be 60ms between touch SDA
sleep and panel RESX. Doug's series[1] allows panels and
touchscreens to power on/off together, so we can add the 65 ms
delay in i2c_hid_core_suspend before panel_unprepare.
Because ili9882t touchscrgeen is a panel follower, and
needs to use vccio-supply instead of vcc33-supply, so set
it NULL to ili9882t_chip_data, then not use vcc33 regulator.

Some digitizers (notably XP-Pen Artist 24) do not report the Invert
usage when erasing. This causes the device to be permanently stuck with
the BTN_TOOL_RUBBER tool after sending Eraser, as Invert is the only
usage that can release the tool. In this state, Touch and Inrange are
no longer reported to userspace, rendering the pen unusable.
Prior to commit 87562fcd13 ("HID: input: remove the need for
HID_QUIRK_INVERT"), BTN_TOOL_RUBBER was never set and Eraser events were
simply translated into BTN_TOUCH without causing an inconsistent state.
Introduce HID_QUIRK_NOINVERT for such digitizers and detect them during
hidinput_configure_usage(). This quirk causes the tool to be released
as soon as Eraser is reported as not set. Set BTN_TOOL_RUBBER in
input->keybit when mapping Eraser.

This patch removes the error checking for debugfs_create_file
in hid-wiimote-debug.c.c. This is because the debugfs_create_file()
does not return NULL but an ERR_PTR after an error.
The DebugFS kernel API is developed in a way that the
caller can safely ignore the errors that occur during
the creation of DebugFS nodes.The debugfs Api handles
it gracefully. The check is unnecessary.

The Lenovo Yoga C630 has a combined keyboard and accelerometer that
interfaces via i2c-hid. Currently this laptop either has a working

CONFIG_HID_SENSOR_HUB and therefore cannot work on this device since the
keyboard doesn't work!

change both keyboard and screen orientation sensors work correctly.
