dt-bindings: arm: move cpu-capacity to a shared loation
RISC-V uses the same generic topology code as arm64 & while there
currently exists no binding for cpu-capacity on RISC-V, the code paths
can be hit if the property is present.

Move the documentation of cpu-capacity to a shared location, ahead of
defining a binding for capacity-dmips-mhz on RISC-V. Update some
references to this document in the process.

00cba6b60f docs/admin-guide/mm: remove useless markup
It is enough to use a file name to cross-reference another rst document.

Jon says:
The right things will happen in the HTML output, readers of the
plain-text will know immediately where to go, and we don't have to add
  the label clutter.

Drop reference markup and unnecessary labels and use plain file names.

2abfcd293b docs: ftrace: always use canonical ftrace path
The canonical location for the tracefs filesystem is at /sys/kernel/tracing.

But, from Documentation/trace/ftrace.rst:

Before 4.1, all ftrace tracing control files were within the debugfs
file system, which is typically located at /sys/kernel/debug/tracing.
For backward compatibility, when mounting the debugfs file system,
the tracefs file system will be automatically mounted at:

  /sys/kernel/debug/tracing

Many parts of Documentation still reference this older debugfs path, so
let's update them to avoid confusion.

a7cacfb068 This was a not-too-busy cycle for documentation; highlights include:
- The beginnings of a set of translations into Spanish, headed up by Carlos
   Bilbao.

 - More Chinese translations.

 - A change to the Sphinx "alabaster" theme by default for HTML generation.
Unlike the previous default (Read the Docs), alabaster is shipped with
Sphinx by default, reducing the number of other dependencies that need to
be installed. It also (IMO) produces a cleaner and more readable result.

 - The ability to render the documentation into the texinfo format
(something Sphinx could always do, we just never wired it up until now).

Plus the usual collection of typo fixes, build-warning fixes, and minor
 updates.

0a1d4434db Updates for timers, timekeeping and drivers:
- Core:

    - The timer_shutdown[_sync]() infrastructure:

Tearing down timers can be tedious when there are circular
dependencies to other things which need to be torn down. A prime
example is timer and workqueue where the timer schedules work and the
      work arms the timer.

What needs to prevented is that pending work which is drained via
destroy_workqueue() does not rearm the previously shutdown
timer. Nothing in that shutdown sequence relies on the timer being
      functional.

The conclusion was that the semantics of timer_shutdown_sync() should
      be:

 	- timer is not enqueued
     	- timer callback is not running
     	- timer cannot be rearmed

Preventing the rearming of shutdown timers is done by discarding rearm
attempts silently. A warning for the case that a rearm attempt of a
shutdown timer is detected would not be really helpful because it's
entirely unclear how it should be acted upon. The only way to address
such a case is to add 'if (in_shutdown)' conditionals all over the
place. This is error prone and in most cases of teardown not required
      all.

    - The real fix for the bluetooth HCI teardown based on
      timer_shutdown_sync().

A larger scale conversion to timer_shutdown_sync() is work in
      progress.

    - Consolidation of VDSO time namespace helper functions

    - Small fixes for timer and timerqueue

  - Drivers:

    - Prevent integer overflow on the XGene-1 TVAL register which causes
      an never ending interrupt storm.

    - The usual set of new device tree bindings

    - Small fixes and improvements all over the place

a31323bef2 timers: Update the documentation to reflect on the new timer_shutdown() API
In order to make sure that a timer is not re-armed after it is stopped
before freeing, a new shutdown state is added to the timer code. The API
timer_shutdown_sync() and timer_shutdown() must be called before the
object that holds the timer can be freed.

Update the documentation to reflect this new workflow.

b0b0aa5d85 Documentation: Remove bogus claim about del_timer_sync()
del_timer_sync() does not return the number of times it tried to delete the
timer which rearms itself. It's clearly documented:

The function returns whether it has deactivated a pending timer or not.

This part of the documentation is from 2003 where del_timer_sync() really
returned the number of deletion attempts for unknown reasons. The code
was rewritten in 2005, but the documentation was not updated.

444064185d Documentation: Start translations to Spanish
Start the process of translating kernel documentation to Spanish. Create
directory sp_SP/ instead of es_ES/ (diverging from format of prior
translated directories) since this directory should accept any dialects of
Spanish. Include an index and a disclaimer, following the approach of
prior translations. Add Carlos Bilbao as MAINTAINER of this effort.

e3e2d74678 Revert "docs/zh_CN: core-api: Add timekeeping Chinese translation"
This reverts commit d24c911bd0.

This translation added a bunch of duplicate function definitions, leading
to a lot of warnings like:

/Documentation/core-api/timekeeping.rst:16: WARNING: Duplicate C declaration, also defined at translations/zh_CN/core-api/timekeeping:26.
  Declaration is '.. c:function:: ktime_t ktime_get( void )'.

We need to come up with a proper way to translate documents with
:c:function declarations in them.

6181073dd6 TTY/Serial driver update for 6.1-rc1
Here is the big set of TTY and Serial driver updates for 6.1-rc1.

Lots of cleanups in here, no real new functionality this time around,
with the diffstat being that we removed more lines than we added!

 Included in here are:
 	- termios unification cleanups from Al Viro, it's nice to
 	  finally get this work done
 	- tty serial transmit cleanups in various drivers in preparation
for more cleanup and unification in future releases (that work
was not ready for this release.)
 	- n_gsm fixes and updates
 	- ktermios cleanups and code reductions
 	- dt bindings json conversions and updates for new devices
 	- some serial driver updates for new devices
 	- lots of other tiny cleanups and janitorial stuff. Full
 	  details in the shortlog.

All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported
 issues.

f3dfe925f9 There's not a huge amount of activity in the docs tree this time around,
but a few significant changes even so:

 - A complete rewriting of the top-level index.rst file, which mostly
reflects itself in a redone top page in the HTML-rendered docs. The hope
is that the new organization will be a friendlier starting point for
   both users and developers.

 - Some math-rendering improvements.

 - A coding-style.rst update on the use of BUG() and WARN()

 - A big maintainer-PHP guide update.

 - Some code-of-conduct updates

 - More Chinese translation work

Plus the usual pile of typo fixes, corrections, and updates.

766c5a3ecb Documentation: remove nonexistent magic numbers
The entire file blames back to the start of git
(minus whitespace from the RST translation and a typo fix):
  * there are changelog comments for March 1994 through to Linux 2.5.74
  * struct tty_ldisc is two pointers nowadays, so naturally no magic
  * GDA_MAGIC is defined but unused, and it's been this way
    since start-of-git
  * M3_CARD_MAGIC isn't defined, because
commit d56b9b9c46 ("[PATCH] The scheduled removal of some OSS
drivers") removed the entire driver in 2006
  * CS_CARD_MAGIC likewise since
commit b5d425c97f ("more scheduled OSS driver removal") in 2007
  * KMALLOC_MAGIC and VMALLOC_MAGIC were removed in
commit e38e0cfa48 ("[ALSA] Remove kmalloc wrappers"),
six months after start of git
  * SLAB_C_MAGIC has never even appeared in git
    (removed in 2.4.0-test3pre6)

magic-number.rst is a low-value historial relic at best and
misleading cruft at worst, so start with cleaning out ones that only
appear therein

3bd6e5854b asm-generic: updates for 6.0
There are three independent sets of changes:

  - Sai Prakash Ranjan adds tracing support to the asm-generic
version of the MMIO accessors, which is intended to help
understand problems with device drivers and has been part
of Qualcomm's vendor kernels for many years.

  - A patch from Sebastian Siewior to rework the handling of
IRQ stacks in softirqs across architectures, which is
    needed for enabling PREEMPT_RT.

  - The last patch to remove the CONFIG_VIRT_TO_BUS option and
some of the code behind that, after the last users of this
old interface made it in through the netdev, scsi, media and
    staging trees.

large systems. Other than that, included in here are:
 	- arch topology and cache info changes that have been reviewed
 	  and discussed a lot.
 	- potential error path cleanup fixes
 	- deferred driver probe cleanups
 	- firmware loader cleanups and tweaks
 	- documentation updates

earth-shaking:

 - More Chinese translations, and an update to the Italian translations.

 - Some build-system performance improvements.

 - The removal of the archaic submitting-drivers.rst document, with the

 - Improvements to sphinx-pre-install to, hopefully, give more useful

e6bd91a7a4 Documentation/translations/zh_CN/mm/page_owner.rst: adjust some words
I noticed that there are some Chinese words that can be more accurate.
So I fix them as follows.

4313a24985 arch/*/: remove CONFIG_VIRT_TO_BUS
All architecture-independent users of virt_to_bus() and bus_to_virt()
have been fixed to use the dma mapping interfaces or have been
removed now. This means the definitions on most architectures, and the
CONFIG_VIRT_TO_BUS symbol are now obsolete and can be removed.

The only exceptions to this are a few network and scsi drivers for m68k
Amiga and VME machines and ppc32 Macintosh. These drivers work correctly
with the old interfaces and are probably not worth changing.

On alpha and parisc, virt_to_bus() were still used in asm/floppy.h.
alpha can use isa_virt_to_bus() like x86 does, and parisc can just
open-code the virt_to_phys() here, as this is architecture specific
code.

I tried updating the bus-virt-phys-mapping.rst documentation, which
started as an email from Linus to explain some details of the Linux-2.0
driver interfaces. The bits about virt_to_bus() were declared obsolete
backin 2000, and the rest is not all that relevant any more, so in the
end I just decided to remove the file completely.

50560ce6a0 Kbuild -std=gnu11 updates for v5.18
Linus pointed out the benefits of C99 some years ago, especially variable
declarations in loops [1]. At that time, we were not ready for the
 migration due to old compilers.

Recently, Jakob Koschel reported a bug in list_for_each_entry(), which
leaks the invalid pointer out of the loop [2]. In the discussion, we
agreed that the time had come. Now that GCC 5.1 is the minimum compiler
version, there is nothing to prevent us from going to -std=gnu99, or even
 straight to -std=gnu11.

Discussions for a better list iterator implementation are ongoing, but
this patch set must land first.

346658a5e1 It has been a moderately busy cycle for documentation; some of the
highlights are:

 - Numerous PDF-generation improvements

 - Kees's new document with guidelines for researchers studying the

 - The ongoing stream of Chinese translations

 - Thorsten's new document on regression handling

 - A major reworking of the internal documentation for the kernel-doc

e8c07082a8 Kbuild: move to -std=gnu11
During a patch discussion, Linus brought up the option of changing
the C standard version from gnu89 to gnu99, which allows using variable
declaration inside of a for() loop. While the C99, C11 and later standards
introduce many other features, most of these are already available in
gnu89 as GNU extensions as well.

An earlier attempt to do this when gcc-5 started defaulting to
-std=gnu11 failed because at the time that caused warnings about
designated initializers with older compilers. Now that gcc-5.1 is
the minimum compiler version used for building kernels, that is no
longer a concern. Similarly, the behavior of 'inline' functions changes
between gnu89 using gnu_inline behavior and gnu11 using standard c99+
behavior, but this was taken care of by defining 'inline' to include
__attribute__((gnu_inline)) in order to allow building with clang a
while ago.

Nathan Chancellor reported a new -Wdeclaration-after-statement
warning that appears in a system header on arm, this still needs a
workaround.

The differences between gnu99, gnu11, gnu1x and gnu17 are fairly
minimal and mainly impact warnings at the -Wpedantic level that the
kernel never enables. Between these, gnu11 is the newest version
that is supported by all supported compiler versions, though it is
only the default on gcc-5, while all other supported versions of
gcc or clang default to gnu1x/gnu17.

b774cc4631 docs: pdfdocs: Move CJK monospace font setting to main conf.py
As LaTeX macros for CJK font settings can have Latin-script font
settings as well, settings under Documentation/translations/ can
be moved to the main conf.py.

By this change, translations.pdf built by top-level "make pdfdocs"
can have properly aligned ascii-art diagrams except for Korean
ones.

For the reason of remaining misalignment in Korean diagrams, see
changelog of commit a90dad8f61 ("docs: pdfdocs: Add conf.py
local to translations for ascii-art alignment").

5d9158e3c7 docs/translations: Skip CJK contents if suitable fonts not found
On systems without "Noto Sans CJK" fonts, CJK chapters in
translations.pdf are full of "TOFU" boxes, with a long build time and
a large log file containing lots of missing-font warnings.

Avoid such waste of time and resources by skipping CJK chapters when
CJK fonts are not available.

To skip whole chapters, change the definition of
\kerneldocBegin{SC|TC|KR|JP} commands so that they can have an argument
to be ignored.
This works as far as the argument (#1) is not used in the command.
In place of skipped contents, put a note on skipped contents at the
beginning of the PDF.

Change the call sites in index.rst of CJK translations accordingly.

When CJK fonts are available, existing command definitions with
no argument just work. LaTeX engine will see additional pairs of
"{" and "}", which add a level of grouping without having any effect
on typesetting.
